Cómeme label has been
specifically formed to highlight artists making dance music in South America.
The tracks on the label are inspired and built for their Buenos Aires based
Bumbumbox street parties, where makeshift sound systems are built from linked
together ghetto blasters. The tracks are tested at the parties, so the music
on these records is typically tough, with a South American flavour, there is
no place for the cold 4/4 engineering of minimal techno which is primarily
made with expensive soundsystems in mind, these tracks are about chunky
rhythm, melody and colour, built to cut through under any circumstances
without pandering to cliché |

After only a tiny time-out Cómeme
can´t help but remain restless and return even more internationalist than
before, since this EP brings together artists from Moscow, Medellin and
Cologne, as well as guests from Spain. It´s a collection of tracks that translate
Cómeme's ever quintessential voltage into different musical temperaments,
drawing the bow from infectious semi-electronic body music and
cumbia-inspired rhythm affairs to detached pitch-frenzied sequence-disco and
a sphinxy creature with fanfares and whiplashes. Typical Cómeme the opener
doesn´t falter to capture the dancer. Berlín esta helado (Berlin is frozen)
is the stirring and boisterous result of a jam session held in Matias
Aguayo's district studio in Berlin, not far from David Bowie's late 70s

Since forming four years ago,
Italian based trio Agents Of Time have already released on both Maceo Plex's
Ellum and Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant imprints. On top of crafting
remixes for artists including Sailor & I and WhoMadeWho, this year saw the
launch of their own label entitled 'Obscura', named after the parties they
have been running for the past three years. 'Xylo' is their debut EP for
Curle, offering both atmospheric but firm techno, complemented by a healthy

Following
on from ‘One Sound / Myth’ released in June, ‘King’ is the second in a
trilogy of EPs for EPMmusic by Mark Broom. Where the first EP featured Mark’s
classic techno skills, on his ‘King EP’ we get another side to Broom,
although anyone familiar with his huge catalogue of releases or tight DJ sets
will already know there’s more to the UK maestro than straight-up techno.
From the get go on his ‘King EP’, Broom delivers peak time heat. The EP
features three new cuts where house meets UK techno. The title track is
intensely addictive, with its tough, tracky groove, stomping bassline and
woven disco sample. ‘77’ and ‘LX’ continue the theme but with a deeper
quality. The former is a dizzying number that could have easily come out of
the windy city, but pauses here and there for a touch of UK flavour, while
the latter is a looped stomper, with it’s piano refrain and compact beats.
Also featured on the EP is a stripped-back remix of ‘King’ from Bek Audio’s
Gary Beck who cuts away from the disco, leaves the stabs and biting groove,
but adds an epic sweep to autograph his work. Look out for the third EP in
our Mark Broom series at the end of the year |

Floorplan,
the father-daughter duo of Robert and Lyric Hood return with their first new
productions since last summer's triumphant 'Victorious' album. The new EP,
which will be released on 12" vinyl and as digital download in June
features two new tracks, which they have been road-testing at recent gigs and

stripped-back 'Let The Church' straddles the realm between tough House and

The
fourth release from Gardens of God's imprint Sodai is the Barcelona based,
Egyptian DJ and producer Raxon with his Detla EP. A trend-setter, the
former-architect exhibits a cogent production style making him an fitting
addition to the label. A special track for Raxon, Detla was created en route
to Cape Town for a big festival. I thought I would need to make some changes
after the show, as is often the case, but the track worked, so I left it
exactly as it is in its first original arrangement. Which any producer will
know is rare'. The EP kicks off with an enticing intro, growing layer by
layer with a detailed arrangement of ethereal synths and minimalistic
percussion. A full breakdown mid-track leaves you craving more, before the
final drop in all it's stomping glory. On the flipside, Jungle Express
features a hastier intro and a balearic-inspired drum pattern. A siren hooks
you in as it drops into a bass-ridden techno roller. Raxon has received
critical acclaim east of the Mediterranean, boasting Best Dubai DJ in 2013/14
by Time Out Dubai. Developing and collaborating, Raxon has continued to
develop his career working with imprints and artists including Ellum and

After the three-track Time Enough
At Last, Antigone returns with Ostinato for TOKEN75. As a project, the record
is thematically accurate, adhering to its title's suggestion on both sides.
The tracks play with layering techniques, gradually building a spectrum of
sound around their respective persistent motifs. Antigone shifts these
insistent base elements, allowing them the foreground before masking within a
blend of carefully processed and organic-sounding details. Ostinato 1 is mild
and disconcerting, with strings that verge on unnatural in their high pitch.
Ostinato 2 is more traditionally dramatic, the space this time filled with
keys that follow the ongoing theme, building to an ostentatious crescendo
reminiscent of the roots of trance |
