have another tantalising treat for you for Record Store Day 2020. We’ve dug
into the archive and decided to bring you Bonzai Power Vinyl 1 on 2 x 7”
records containing four classic cuts that put the hardcore rave sound on the
map. DJ Bountyhunter’s Demilitarized Zone first appeared on Power Vinyl and
was an exclusive at the time. Featuring thumping beats and sweeping hoover
sounds, the main melody and the vocals were inspired by the popular TV show,
The Twilight Zone. Up next we will have the superb Reality from Phrenetic
System aka Peter Schiettekatte and Frederico Santini. Hailed as one of the
very best in our back catalogue, Reality hit hard and true, sending clubbers
into a frenzy. A gentle melodic note opens the track before a robotic voice
comes through. Powerful beats take over as gritty synths and basses rock the
speakers. Karim Boux and Roel Reynders’ project, Belgica Wave, gave us The
Wave which caused quite a stir upon release. The track opens with a Gregorian
style vox with a crowd ready for action. After a short prayer, the hoovers
start and the track lifts off, catapulting us into the stratosphere |

Chicago deep house producer has enjoyed something of a career renaissance
with the release of ‘Moonlight Fantasy’ on Rush Hour and, since then, he’s been

New
label, Reposition are setting themselves at the vanguard of cutting-edge
electronic music with their first release by Belgium's T-Scale. T-Scale, from
Liege, started experimenting with audio editors and sequencers in his early
teens. Active on his local scene since 1998, having been involved with
several collectives and the now defunct Industrial-Bass Music band, Urban
Toonz, he played alongside internationally acclaimed DJs and live acts like
Murderbot, Ital Tek, Subjex, Exillon, Milanese, Boxcutter and Noize Creator.
Now based in London, he is a member of the UK based collective and platform,
Loose Lips, which launched in 2014, as he continues to push his sound
forward. In his quest for physically impossible sonorities, he has spent the
past 6 months developing a performance tool that gives him the ability to
sculpt sounds on the go. At a recent gig in Macedonia, he played an
incredible 'live pure data' set, using real-time graphical data flow
programming to create all his own sounds. With this huge wealth of knowledge
and a hard drive stacked with unreleased productions, his 'Spookz EP' is long
overdue |

marks the tenth of collaboration for Red Axes, the Tel Aviv-based duo of Dori
Sadovnik and Niv Arzi. Informed by post-punk, new wave, and a plethora of
club sounds old and new, they have cleaved a singular path with their hefty
discography. To celebrate their anniversary, they reunite with Dark Entries
for an eponymous 11 track LP brimming with jagged guitars, spacy arpeggios,
and hypnotic vocals. Although Sadovnik and Arzi have previously released LPs
on I’m A Cliche and Garzen Records, Red Axes is their first effort written
and conceived of as an album-length listening experience. This work flows
effortlessly through a variety of stylistic detours, highlighting their ears
as both keen listeners and skilled DJs. Opener ‘They Game’ is a grooving number
that unifies the psychedelia of cosmic disco with the early 90s ‘baggy’
sound. The energy mounts further with “Shelera”, a guitar-driven acidic
banger, and “Sticks and Stones”, a certifiable club hit fueled by sassy
vocals courtesy of Adi Bronicki. Launching Side B is “Break the Limit”, an
EBM-laced number that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Razormaid compilation.
The following tracks wax moodier, with “Brotherhood (Of the
Misunderstanding)” touching on darkwave territory. “Udibaby” and “Arpman”
close out the album with their respectively dense and sparse takes on

The
Attic Music label strives to keep us dancing in these difficult times with a
new EP from red hot young Portuguese talent Norbak featuring a remix from the
label's owner Fabrizio Lapiana. Over the last four years, Artur Moreira has
quickly established his avant-garde techno sound on labels like Semantica,
Soma, Warm Up Recordings and his own label, Hayes. Always exploring the deep
and dark end of the spectrum, he has picked up props from the likes of Oscar
Mulero and Dasha Rush while going on to establish his name around Europe with
killer sets at places like Tresor in Berlin. The excellent 'Pledge I' opens
up with a menacing groove that burrows late into an underground cavern. It
sounds earthy and organic and the rock solid kick drums get you into a state
of hypnosis while the scurrying synths add more details in which to get lost.
'Pledge II' is another masterfully heady and journeying track that layers up
more rubbery, propulsive kick drums with fizzing, electrified synth sounds
and pads that encircle you and get you into a state of trance |

originators of the genre. Amen goes deep and meditates over a distorted
SH-101 about the initial intentions of spirituality. Arabische Nacht a
collaboration with fellow ‘Bauarbeiter der Liebe’ Lutz Hartmann sports a
catchy bassline, open chords and an irresistible hook |

rough roads. Techno paths where craft, not innovation, is the draw. The music
on this 'Post Raw Era II' is relentless and has plenty of muscle. This
3-tracker EP kicks off with 'Flangerism', tremendously vigorous and highly
danceable. The mountainous excursion continues with hardly any time to catch
your breath with 'Seeds of Hope', a composition of punchy multi-layered drum
work, catchy synth lines and cutting acid. Last but not least 'Always Wanting
More' evoking long, dark tunnels as readily as mid-'90s hardcore vocal sounds |

Banke
returns to Token. The Danish producer debuted on the label in 2018 with Totem
- an EP of detailed, low-slung productions that highlighted the artist's keen
ear for moody, undulating sequences & slick production techniques. On his
return, Banke ups the ante - increasing the tempo moderately and where
previous work focused on inviting dance-floor hypnosis, Facelift makes classy
peak time propulsion the order of the day. The work maintains many of the
sonic motifs associated with the Dane's production: firm, buoyant low end
drives the music, working neatly in tandem with reduced percussive accents
and more exposed, crystalline sequences that lift the recordings and offer
new, expressive tones to the producer's growing discography. In many ways lead
track Facelift does what it says on the tin, and offers up the most intense
experience on the EP. In equal parts as dense and moody as it is exhilarating
and uplifting, the track is a fine example of how careful use of limited
sonic components can generate extraordinarily affecting results in the right
hands |
