As the summer heatwave rolls on, so does the music with the new
arrival of record label Confucius. Brain child of Swiss DJ and Producer,
Sandro Kuhne which sees the first release as a split EP between himself and
Romanian talent Arapu, a fast rising name of the minimal house scene and
who's track "Pe Final" is a sweet somber thrill of groove and
moodiness, tight kick and high hats, punching along with a snappy snare
wrapping over a subtle melody and tight bass line. After hours or early sun
rise set, this track has the fuel ready to ignite. For the B-side we are
spoilt with two tracks from Sandro Kuhne, the first entitled
"Ephemeral" being a no holds bar intense groover, full of
flickering sounds and cuts, stabs and detail. This one has a relentless
energy and attitude to become a classic dance floor killer. The second song
is "Sonorous" and is the deeper of the two, packing punch and funk
while bringing in the atmospherics and trippy happy hands in the air vibes,

relatively unknown Italian producer Ruff Degan. The song titles describe the
songs well taking us on a melancholy journey of sound with the uptempo
grooves and beats of "Anxiety Always" into the still sad but
optimistic mid tempo chugger "Mind Garden" and closing out with the
techno abstractions of "Shortness Breath". Anxiety is a continuous
theme throughout this EP but serves as a bit of therapy for some of us who
are far too familiar with these emotions and conditions. After all, sometimes

hot on the heels of their debut release (a stunning record by ROAR), French
imprint WORK IN PROGRESS returns here in triumphant and eclectic fashion
courtesy of a record that does their reputation as serious party-starters no
harm at all. Again featuring the talents of ROAR, this is a dizzyingly
eclectic record that fans of smile-induing house and disco are sure to admire
especially. The A1, the title track, ‘I Wanna This Record’ is a case in
point. A really vibe-heavy disco-centric track that’s notable for its killer
vocals and acid techno flashes, it’s an unlikely gem of the sort that will
light up any floor. For their contribution, London duo The Willers Brothers
turn the track on its head, opting instead for a more straight-up, 4/4 remix.
Muscular and full of wonders, it’s without doubt a neat addition to the
original’s charms. The B side sees ROAR side up with Zolbaran courtesy of
another cheeky and playful track, ‘Neukolln Baila La Bamba’ Starting toward
pop sensibilities in a manner not dissimilar to Kompakt, this one pulls at
the heartstrings in much the same way that Gui Boratto’s best work does. An
emotive, pleasure-seeking cut that’s hard not to love, that’s for sure |

In Search of Ancient Civilization
is an contemporary electronic work at its finest, although the tools used to
shape its sound are linked to a folk tradition. For that matter the album
features musicians from within Vakula's creative circle. Tracks that needed
specific vocals and also rare instruments such as harp, fujara, tambourine
have been produced in collaboration with Olena Nevertii and Yaroslav. The
artist has sampled himself while throat singing along with field recordings
in natural surroundings. There's a message behind the carefully made-by-hand
fantasy aesthetics of the production and its unconventional voice. Vakula's
fascination with the Ancient world moved him through the history of humanity,
to the point where his findings were insightful enough to warn the listener:

Techno
pioneer Robert Hood debuts on Rekids with a blistering release entitled
‘Nothing Stops Detroit’ ahead of an album this winter. Over the last three
decades the Underground Resistance alum has continually been at the forefront
of the techno genre whilst releasing on many of electronic music’s finest
labels to boot. In recent years his solo outings have appeared on a select
few labels such as Dekmantel, Music Man Records, not to mention his very own
M-Plant. Having made appearances on Rekids in the past remixing label boss
Radio Slave - both as Robert Hood (‘Don’t Stop No Sleep’) and Floorplan
(‘Feel The Same’) - the Detroit originator now drops a four track release in
his official debut on the label. With its machine aesthetic, ‘Nothing Stops
Detroit’ is unmistakably Hood from start to finish. Precision kick drums
propel the title track forward as stuttering effects and deep stabs work
alongside a march band rhythm. ‘7 Mile Dog’ is next with its grainy synths
and scintillating pads, making way for the meandering bassline, rattling
atmospherics and trippy, oscillating top line of ‘Ignite A War’ |

Saturn Drive’s debut EP ‘Mousewalk’ featuring Frankfurt’s
favorite, Christian Burkhardt with long time collaborator, Daniel Roth; along
with a bumping remix by Politics of Dancing. ‘Mousewalk’ EP is comprised of 4
track: title track ‘Mousewalk’ has the signature micro tech-house sound that
put Christian Burkhardt on the map; Driving bassline, rolling percussion, and
a dose of funk. Politics of Dancing’s remix of the track maintains the
essence of the original while offering a deeper, housier interpretation.
‘E-Search’ is the banger of the bunch, heavy low end and techy ambient make
this a dancefloor hitter. Final track, ‘Sling’, is an introspective minimal
tech track that explores the trippier, darker side of Burkahrdt’s sound.

Mysterious producer Raphael Beneluz, aka Prince de Takicardie,
took his pseudonym from the first French anime called “Le Roi et l'oiseau”.
In his sound, he constantly tries to discover new facets of techno, filling
it with his personality. In just a year, he has released three releases,
including the "Matrix Computer Poetry" EP on the German Twig,
"A Man's Hurt" EP on the Lumbago from Lyon and "P" on the
British Cartulis Music. Komponente and Kurilo were preparing their debut live
and were in search of a new sound, so the record has absorbed many elements
from different genres. A and B sides are completely different, but they are
one in the atmospheric flow. Each track has its own idea and purpose for the

Progetto Tribale was born in 1992 under the mentorship of
Giancarlino and executed by a team that included Pietro Micioni, Paolo
Micioni, D.RaD (Stefano Facchielli) and Giancarlino himself. The project was
based on a deep combination of african rhythms and soul music that have later
influenced much of the music to come and was acclaimed by the press and dj's
all over the world as a genre bender. The A1track: "Behavior", has
immediately reached a great success in clubs, as reported by the European
House charts of the time. The project has continued for two more productions
with UMM, to then change label and go on with D: Vision, until 1996, year of
publication of the last production, volume 6. Today, 24 years later, Volume 7
was finally born under the partnership of Donato Dozzy, Pietro and Paolo

In
ancient Rome, Consuls held two strategic roles: exercising authority over all
the public affairs of the city and accompanying the legions in their military
campaigns. Lykos Records gave this role to Artist Laertes, born Gianluca
Meloni. Ambassador of the sound of Rome, Laertes has been one of the pioneers
of the deep-techno genre. After establishing in Italy as producer, live
performer and mastering engineer, he exported his aesthetics all around the
world. "Titanomachia" is the title of Laertes' new work inspired by
Hesiod's Theogony. The artist tells through aggressive and groovy sounds one
of the bloodiest wars in Greek mythology, Zeus leading the Olympian gods
versus Chronos and the Titans. "Chaos" throws us into the swirl of
battle. The repetitive sound of the synth bass sequence alludes to the sound
of spears broken on shields, while pads and strings charge the entire track
with tension. The narration continues in a daring succession of loops and
hypnotic rhythms, with the second track "The Immortal". Strident
bleeps and incessant percussions and rhythmic patterns characterize the
progressive crescendo |

Drama
Girl - Original Soundtrack is an electronic album based on the film score
composed by Beau Zwart for the Dutch film Drama Girl, directed by Vincent Boy
Kars. The album has a narrative identity that evokes the film without images.
It translates orchestral film music from the 60s into a contemporary
electronic soundtrack, capturing the enchanting influences of composers like
Bernardt Herrman and Henry Mancini by using analog synthesizers to emulate
traditional orchestration techniques. For this release, all the music
composed for the film has been rearranged to form a full length album with
influences from jazz, classical, ambient, wave, hip hop and modern
electronica that harks back to the sound of the 80s and 90s. Beau Zwart is a
young upcoming film composer, DJ and producer from Rotterdam. Both in his
more club related work and scores, Beau transforms his classical background
to make complex music accessible and crosses borders between genres. This
release is the first installment of Narrative Identity Records, a Rotterdam
based label that focuses on soundtracks and narratively driven music. The
label is collaboration between filmmaker Vincent Boy Kars and composer Beau
Zwart with the goal to connect and innovate the worlds of music and film |

Mr
Lee Perry who in no uncertain terms defines the words musical genius,
recorded some of the most inspiring, soulful, funny and weird / wild reggae
music ever put down on tape. Working through all the manifestations of reggae
from Ska to Roots and Dub, where his ground breaking 1973 ‘Blackboard Jungle’
LP, set the standards, he was an innovator. If this was not enough his
recordings of THE WAILERS, many believe to be their finest work. Born
Rainford Hugh Perry, 28 March 1936, Hanover, Jamaica. He began his career at
the grand age of 16, working for Clement ‘Coxone’ Dodd’s sound system, rising
quickly to the position of record scout and organising recording sessions
during his 3 year period 1963-1966. Restlessness and unsatisfied with credit
he felt due to him he moved on to work with Producers J.J. Johnson and Clancy
Eccles, the later of which would help him set up his ‘Upsetter’ label in
1968,which would see his first of many recordings telling the injustices done
to him by previous employees. ‘The Upsetter’ track itself pointed at Mr Dodd
but reflected back to Perry when he inherited it as a nick name along side
many others during the coarse of his career, including ‘Scratch’, again taken
from one of his recordings ‘Chicken Scratch’ recorded in 1965/1966. Perry’s
work in 1968 with producer Joe Gibbs was fruitful and resulted in many
successfulreleases, but again lack of credit and itchy feet, it was time to
move on |

Hailing from Kyushu, Japan from the early 80's CONFUSE is

What
does a contemporary album mean to us? Marc Pinol and Hugo Capablanca asked
themselves this question when faced with the challenge of recording their
first C.P.I. LP. To find the answer they went back to some of the most
important records in their lives and listened to them from start to finish.
At a time when the whole concept of an album might be at its lowest ebb for
decades, they wanted to return to the old way of telling stories, recreating
the notion of a narrative "journey" but doing so in their own
original manner. 'Alianza' displays a wide range of emotions through only a
few elements. There are no structures, barely any drums. It's a puzzling
journey that moves through darkness and light, happiness and despair, hope
and menace, as it unveils its own mysterious universe. Every track is a world
in its own, yet all of them are linked by an invisible energy that reflects a
coherent constellation. To achieve this, Hugo and Marc used a broad array of
vocal timbres, including their own drone-treated voices, digitized vocals
from an old vector synth, and those of several contributors |

'Unconditional
Contours'' captures Legowelt's stint at the Swiss Museum for Electronic Music
Instruments (SMEM), after he was invited to be the first artist in residence
at the institution's ''Playroom'' project. Legowelt visited SMEM in Fribourg,
Switzerland, in early 2019 to explore the collection and record music.
Possessing an extensive collection of synthesizers himself, he used
hand-picked synthesizers from the museum's archive: the rare Farfisa
Synthorchestra, the EVS-1 Evolution, the ''shittiest rompler ever made'',
amongst many others. The 10-track album ''Unconditional Contours'' is both a
probe into the vast collection of SMEM, and a display of Legowelt's well
established composi?tional qualities. Leaving ample space for new sounds to
unfold, Legowelt invokes gentle trips, brooding excursions, bleep heavy
soundscapes, and reimagined elements of dance music classicism. SMEM and -OUS
are launching the ''smem+ous'' series to document the ''Playroom''
residencies. A limited edition of this album was already sent out to early
supporters of the ''Playroom''. Founded in 2016 and based on a collection of
more than 5000 synthesizers, organs, drum machines and effects that had been
