Though Club Band's "Club is My Passion" was written as
a radio jingle, it is nonetheless a dancefloor bomb. As was the case in 1987,
Best Record Italy presents the track as a vocal and instrumental version, and
in the vocal cut, marimbas dance aside swinging funk guitars as claps fire
over pianos and hard hitting disco drums. Brass leads mesmerize the mind
before the the track drops into a minimal verse, where electro rhythms and
slap basslines flow beneath a cool masculine croon, which is at times
supported by backing vocal and whispers of funk guitar. During ascendant
choruses, erotic screams and diva dreams coalesce as computronic tracers
spread out in every direction. And in excising most of the vocals, the
accompanying instrumental version pushes ever closer towards dancelfoor

highlights of the compilation. Victor Ruiz, Drumcode’s most prolific
contributor in 2020, dishes up ‘Love Story’, led by a huge vocal lead. Zimmz
also returns with ‘Tension’, which deftly combines deep squelchy grooves with
a silky synth interlude. Thomas Hoffknecht follows up his debut on Vol.9 with
‘Escape’, keeping listeners on their toes with dynamic, choppy shifts
throughout. Veerus joins with another stirring addition ‘I Know’, reinforcing

Cornucopia is not a new name in the industry.
Slowly building up its reputation, it succeeded in making a difference in the
world of hypnotic house, deephouse, electronica, and melodic techno. Even
though a remix under that name appeared on the label before, this is the

One
year after the first excursion into his haunting world of sonic spaces on the
Analog Amputations EP, machine wizard CVBox strikes back on Uncanny Valley
with the follow up "Trawler Crossing". And from start to finish
this EP is a journey between Techno and Ambient full of unheard noises and
grasping rhythms. In the title track the beat rides on spooky pads that flow
down like lava from a volcano. The more the whipping drums come into play,
the more captivating the atmosphere evolves. "Echo Place (Canyon
Version)" is CVBox in pure beauty. Starting with quirky synth-sounds
that seem to talk to the listener, a dubby bass driven groove takes over to
unfold an adventurous Techno track in all its glory. On the flipside
"Leo on LFO (Accordion Partition)" takes its time to build up into
an epic Electro track that is distinguished by the acidic synth-bass and
outshining strings. The collaboration with his musical soul mate Micha Freier
marks the end point of the EP. "Remind 20 : 3" is a dreamy slow
burner that seductively puts its arms around you after all. The cover artwork

Scherbe
is back on Uncanny Valley with his second full length EP. After his recent
contribution to the UV20-compilation and a record on Fourth Wave he returns
with the aptly titled "Late Nite Safari" and shows off again his
knack for rumbling beats and fuzzy synths. "Poison Hillz" builds up
on steamy percussions and a slowly rising bass line arpeggio that unfolds
completely when the hi-hat drops in. You won't notice that wonderful synth
pad coming but when it's there everything sounds right in place. "Long
Time No Sea" is based on cowbell-heavy beats and tiny xylophone sounds.
Completed by a yearning vocal sample and catchy guitar licks it keeps your
head nodding. Scherbe's unique drum programming makes it stand out from most
of the typical Deep House tracks and he makes sure that all the elements flow
together into his distinctive groove. On the flipside, "Mosqito
Beach" creates a tropical atmosphere with bird-like tones and sound
textures of high humidity. With a piano loop rising up and down plus deranged
organ sounds he brings things to a pretty mysterious end |

across the pond, Ciel, takes the title track and entices us down the rabbit
hole. Layering it up with an eery vocal and simply - we love it. Over on the
flip Roza Terenzi turns in her signature hedonistic blend of future squelch
and thumping 5am elbow burners. It'll get you going. Our lad, Seb Wildblood
closes out proceedings with almost a prime era *cough* Innervisions *cough*
peak time, low end, percussive blinder. It's really great. We will continue

Dark and driving, these four tracks from Sonohat paint a
monochromatic landscape tinted with mysterious melodies.
"Nohemiann" sets the tone of the album with distorted chords and a
whipping baseline. Next, fellow Romanian Vid's remix of "Nohemiann"
subtly strips down the original with haunting, indiscernible whispers. On the
B side, "Another Bottle of Wine" slurs vocals and drones to tell a
textured story while the kick continues relentlessly. "Chains"
returns to a groovy bassline and a nostalgic, yearning melody that reminds us
how even the ability to turn everything to gold could, ultimately, be a curse |

Haven
are back with another instalment on their white label series with their third
VA compilation on "Sardonic Tonality Vol. 3", with three label
mainstays and one fresh face to the imprint. The A1 kicks things off with
"Byronic Hero" from German techno power-house New Frames.
Screeching, sinister, syncopated synth work propel the track alongside
driving drum patterns and flawless production techniques in this speedy
banger. Haven label boss Keepsakes follows on the A2 with "Oblivious
Civics", where distorted drum work, ominous vocal samples, and an
ear-worm synth hook make for a malevolent dance-floor smasher. On the flip
Italian metal-head Ayarcana returns to Haven for the first time since his
split EP with Keepsakes in 2018 on the B1 with "Bring Nothing Take
Nothing". Rolling percussion and a rumbling kick drive the track forward
alongside eerie drones and creative doom-y modular synth programming in a
destructive crusher of a track. Finally the B2 closes the release with
"Overmonitorized" from Barcelona's Surit of NX1 fame |

based label, Lurid welcomes Spanish producer Senora for a stunning new double
gatefold album entitled "Fosil" that showcases his unique take on
hypnotic rhythm, found sounds and sampling. Senora became a firm favourite
with the likes of Andrew Weatherall (R.I.P.) and Sean Johnston for his rugged
grooves and innovative approach to production, melding the sounds of
machines, animals, electricity and other weird noises in a flurry of FX and
sonic experimentation. He debuted on this label in 2017 and has also landed
on Shango Records, Night Noise and LNDKHN since then. Now based in Berlin and
a regular at clubs and festivals round Europe he offers up a debut album that
features nine stunning pieces that "aim to reflect on the next evolutionary
steps of the human race". The otherworldly Preludio: Ocaso
Hominido" kicks off with a swampy bass sound overlaid with cosmic
details and downtempo drums. It's a brilliantly mysterious opener than leads
on to "Antropoceno", a spacious soundtrack with bubbling synths,
undulating drums and plenty of sonic details that paint a picture of a starry
night sky up above. The tumbling drums of "Segundo Sexo" sink you
into a dubby reverie with bird calls and wordless vocal sounds mixing with
percolating percussion. The excellent "El Elefante Que Siempre Andaba
Solo" is a perfectly flabby and chugging dark disco cut with bright
chords and scintillating drum work while "Codigo y Marfil" is a
futurist landscape in outer space with modulated synths and deft astral
details making it colourful and cinematic |
