It
seems like an age since Icelandic producer Adalsteinn Gudmundsson's last
album as Yagya, 2020's "Old Dreams and Memories." The first album
to be released on his own label Small Plastic Animals it was followed by the
four-track "Always Maybe Tomorrow" EP in 2021. "Faded
Photographs" is his ninth studio album, the most involved and
time-consuming project to date and collaborative on a scale not seen since
2012's "The Inescapable Decay of My Heart." It also marks an
exceptionally confident return to the art of song-writing, but where that
earlier album was a more upbeat dub techno-pop affair, "Faded
Photographs" is nostalgic, wistful, reflective and steeped in poetic
romanticism. Gudmundsson's love of the art of the album is also more
pronounced here than ever before, almost every single track tied together by
the particularly unifying use of triplet rhythms in combination with 4/4
beats, beguiling hushed vocals and enveloping, molten dub bass tones. Combined
with a typical dedication to sound design and production, "Faded
Photographs" is rendered an utterly seamless experience, demanding to be
heard as a whole. Written and produced when we had become more distant and
disconnected from one another than ever before, "Faded Photographs"
brings together and showcases an ensemble of artists in a spirit of
collaboration that flies in the face of adversity, a true product of its time |

take a look at Say Hello!, the debut full-length album from Spanish rock '
roll outfit Los Torontos. When we listen to the twelve songs featured here,
we hear music as it emerged in the late 50's & early 60's, with frat rock
and rhythm & blues influences. The band of Javier R. Cortés (Los Locos
Del Oeste) and Spencer Evoy (MFC Chicken) masters the style to perfection,
but the songs are also very delightful. So tonight we're going to party like

As
rookies in the thriving Brussels scene, jazz fusion quartet L?p?GangGang have
been making waves the last couple of years. After the EPs 'Stalingrad' and
'Urban Detox', they are now releasing their debut album 'Dopamine Overdose'
on March 17 via Sdban Ultra. Lyrically the inspiration for the album comes
from growing up in a digital world and the constant dopamine we all have to
deal with because of that. Musically their sound is rich, diverse and hard to
pin down, looking at Yussef Dayes, BADBADNOTGOOD and even Black Country, New
Road for inspiration. L?p?GangGang started out as a jazz/funk cover band in
2017. Anton, Miel, Lena and Rob all met at a jam session summer camp while
still in school. Over time, the band started writing their own songs and released
two EPs to critical acclaim. Due to the band's desire for creative expansion
over genres, they have been able to perform on various Belgian stages for the
past three years including Ancienne Belgique to Flagey, Gent Jazz and
Handelsbeurs in support of label mates, Black Flower. The album title
'Dopamine Overdose' is a quote from the track 'Dada Data', a track about the
influence social media tends to have on our lives. The album's recurring
theme is definitely the struggle with today's hyper virtual society and the
overwhelming influence tech is having on society. With unbridled enthusiasm
the band tackle relevant themes and combine striking observations with a
highly contagious and very diverse sound. From "Out the Light'', a
smooth track about being stuck in the image we all try to create of
ourselves, to 'Wanderer', a jazzy tune about the road to self-acceptance, and
from 'Candy', combining a punk attitude with infectious hand claps, to 'Time
Faded', about the difficulty of finishing your artistic work, L?p?GangGang
constantly showcase their genre-defying versatility. As a whole, the album is
a very balanced collection of tracks, ranging from brooding atmospheres to
punky explosions with a constant drive, social criticism and an indomitable
energy binding it all together. A promising debut, indeed |

With a title like Blood Guts ^
Pussy, an album cover which features three nude models drenched in animal
blood, and song titles like 'Let's Fuck', 'Fuck You Up and Get High',
'Motherfucker', and 'Fuckhead', the Dwarves had obviously redirected their
style since Horror Stories. Gone is the subtle suggestiveness of that album,
replaced by explicit exploitation and genuinely disgusting humor. Of course,
most won't find the Dwarves very humorous: it takes a sick mind to appreciate
the Dwarves' celebration of statutory rape on 'Let's Fuck' or vocalist Blag
Jesus anger at a girl afraid of AIDS on 'SFVD'. Thirteen songs full of
general punk sloppiness and distortion performed in 14 minutes |

Damon
Wild and David Sumner (aka Function's) relationship dates back to 1991 at
Lord Michael's Future Shock, Limelight, New York City - when Damon was
running EXperimental Records via Northcott Productions. At the time, he first
saw something in Dave and added him to Brand X, a record pool run by
Moneypenny. But their bond is based around a period 5 years later when Dave
had an apartment above Rogue Music at 251 West 30th Street in Midtown,
Manhattan. It was during this time Damon developed him as a Synewave artist
and released his first EP as Function in the Fall of 1996 - catalog number;
SW-24. Falling in and out of touch over the years, across continents, the two
have somehow remained on the same cosmic path. So it's not a coincidence that
now Damon has turned to Dave to release his first album in 13 years, during
the time he is reissuing that first "Synewave EP" on
"Recompiled I/II & II/II" (A-TON LP02/03). This is where those
paths cross again... 21 years later, this Fall, Dave will release
"Cosmic Path" on Infrastructure. The cosmic connection |

Excellent high impact techno from
Amsterdam, where Italian producer Francesco Rosati found his home. After
releases on labels like Absolute, Sungate and Voltage, the 'Encounter' EP is
his debut release for the NOWHERE series on Something Happening, Somewhere
(SoHaSo). Rosati calls his new EP a statement to his stylistic musical
output. He uses a hybrid setup of vintage analog machines and digital
devices. For Encounter he wanted to grab the spirit of the moment. All five
tracks were recorded directly in a single take, capturing pure energy. It is
probably the most pure techno release SoHaSo has done in a while. Opener
Stabber alone is pure energy, with its roling Reese-like baselines,
mesmerizing hi-hats and hypnotizing loops. The whole EP is a respectful nod
to Detroit masters like Robert Hood and Jeff Mills while it also winks back
to the menacing UK techno sound of the 90s. Or like Rosati says on his
Soundcloud: ''Future is the door - past is the key.'' |

Greensleeves in 1990 to glowing reviews "Blowing With The Wind"
went on to be Pablo's most successful album since the seventies. The mix of
nyahbinghi drumming (e.g. "Drums To The King" in a 7.03 minutes
recording with acoustic guitar by Earl "Chinna" Smith) and hardcore
steppers was embraced big time by the new age sound-system culture bringing
the artist's far east sound to a whole new audience. A successful tour of
Japan followed where Augustus Pablo showcased "Blowing With The

label head Phase Fatale aka Hayden Payne drops his first EP in 5 years
'Nailed To The Net' and his first solo release on his own record imprint. The
Berghain and Khidi resident develops his sound further into the dancefloor
and techno sphere while still maintaining his signature post-punk influence.
The innovative techno producer and DJ combines his spectrum of dystopian,
gritty, industrial electronics with his deep understanding of synthesis and
sound design. This sonic approach is all the more exemplified in Rrose's
remix of 'Desecrating Vows'. The release finds Payne taking his productions
to new levels by including different musical elements such as breakbeats,
arpeggiations, and massively layered chordal sequences. Reflecting the last
year when he produced it in Berlin, injecting all broken hearted emotions
from then, each track contains more groove and nuance while having dense,
shoegaze-alike atmosphere and melodies. Even containing distant voice and
guitar elements, 'Nailed To The Net' maintains his trademark balance between
the dancefloor and his eclectic influences |

Stephen
Disario delivers four-tracks as the debut release on his newly-launched
imprint, and in so doing sets the tone for the output we can expect in years
to come: driving basslines and infectious percussion crafted with meticulous
perfection. Throughout the four tracks, Disario showcases what he does so
well as a producer: groovy, funky techno that will always find its home in a
proper underground techno setting. The EP starts off with "Under The
Rug", an hypnotic masterpiece that sucks listeners in and takes them
deeper and deeper as the track's intensity builds and reaches its peak.
"Walking Through Trees" is next, picking up the tempo with an added
groove carrying the track throughout... a real dance floor mover. The pace
continues with "The Marathon", a percussion-driven stomper
characterized by well-crafted peaks and valleys permeated by distorted eerie
vocals. To conclude the EP, "Lights Down Under" showcases Disario's
other signature techno soundscape. Here he takes the funk route, using an 808
clap and eerie howl broken by hard to discern and yet catchy vocals to great

Weapon was formed in 1980 from the ashes of the Silencers, which Steve Reiner
formed with guitarist Brian Hansen and vocalist Kat Arthur. By the time of
this riveting 1982 debut LP, the band had Arthur, Hansen, future Adolescents/Agent
Orange bassist Steve Soto, and drummer Charlie Vartanian. Just as Exene
Cervenka was a primary draw in X and Penelope Houston in the Avengers, Kat

The gifted Puerto Rican-American
drummer and percussionist Willie Bobo was one of the architects of Latin
Jazz. Following mentorship from Machito and Mongo Santamaria, Bobo played
with Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, and Herbie Mann, before going solo. Bobo's Beat
is a sure-fire winner from 1962 with excellent support from trumpeter Clark
Terry, saxophonist Joe Farrell and keyboardist Frank Anderson, a fully
three-dimensional set with fine jazz nuances. It shows that Bobo never
accepted less than the best from his counterparts, and there are some bossa
nova covers mixed in with the driving Latin originals too. An essential work! |

The
Dark Entries Italo drop continues with Garland?s ?Heartbeat?. Like the Alex
Molo reissue, this is another 1986 dancefloor bomb produced by Claudio
Corradini along with Massimo Filippi. Art D?co singer and songwriter Claudio
Valenti conceived of Garland as an outlet for his more dancefloor-oriented
material. Inspired by Valenti?s time spent in London seeing Steve Strange (of
New Romantic group Visage) DJ at Heaven, ?Heartbeat? is an epic Italo number
with a heavy New Wave stamp. D?j? vu comes over the listener with melodies
evoking Debarge and Bronski Beat, but this passes when the fist-pumping,
sing-along-worthy chorus hits. Both the ?Song Version? and the ?Dance
Version? are included on this reissue, with the latter featuring an extended
intro and stripped down arrangement. ?Heartbeat? was remastered by George
Horn. The record is housed in a reproduction of the original sleeve and comes
on pink vinyl. Also included is a postcard with lyrics, liner notes, and a
photograph. This reissue is dedicated to Claudio Corradini, who sadly passed
away in 2021 |

of the iconic 'Screen Series': Yellow Screen. Limited Edition Picture Disc.
Remastered. Yellow Screen: Originally released on November 19, 1999. It was
the starting point of a beautiful musical adventure between Mr Sam & Fred
Baker. This first E.P. is composed of 3 tracks : A side : Out Of Time / B1 :
Greatest Hope / B2 : Inside My Soul. For the story, Inside My Soul was
composed first, we were looking for each other musically speaking. The result
is a very good track rather clubby in its atmosphere. Great classic of the
Bush after party and still played nowadays. Then came Greatest Hope, faster
bpm with a techno groove a la "Underworld" with a break where the
beautiful strings form a stunning contrast. In the end this track is a
perfect example of the versatility we had in the studio. Finally, the pearl
of the E.P. and the stumbling block of the rest of the series, in a way the
founding stone of our touch, our so atypical style, in other words our
signature. As you may know by now, the main inspiration for this now
legendary track came from Sasha "Belfunk". Mr. Sam used to play it
a lot at the Bush every week as a DJ and absolutely wanted to do the «
Belgian version » of Belfunk. This Sasha record really served as a template
like a recipe. From memory the record was produced from start to finish in
one afternoon take. It was immediately tested at La Bush in the following
days and nothing was changed afterwards. For your information, the entire
series was composed in Tournai (Belgium) not far from La Bush Club. It is
important to know that all the music that was composed for the series, was
done with the intention that it be played at La Bush. The atmosphere of the
club and the music was without a doubt the main source of our inspiration |

seemed destined for a career as a classical concert pianist, but in his
teens, he became completely enamored with jazz. Driven by his passion, he
moved to New York, where he studied and taught at the renowned NYU
Steinhardt. There he came into contact with jazz greats Mark Turner and Ralph
Alessi, with whom he released the album "Applebueseagreen" in 2019,
which was promptly included in the prestigious list of "Best Albums of
2019" by the legendary Downbeat Jazz Magazine with the words
"Stunningly original". Domestically, too, one blazing review upon
another: "Belgium is too small for pianist Alex Koo" or "We
are stunned ", we read in national newspapers De Tijd and Le Soir. With
his brand new Etudes for Piano, composed for and commissioned by BoZar
Brussels, he shows how his passion for both worlds - jazz and classical -
merge perfectly. Adventurism and virtuosity go hand in hand with melancholy
and elbow work (literally, for those who really know Koo knows). His music
sounds like a marriage between Debussy, Chopin, Reich, Rachmaninov on the one
hand and Keith Jarrett, Craig Taborn, Brian Eno and Philip Glass on the

astronomic ascension is well known and we are delighted that he decided to
'play home' one more time. Although the years are passing by, Lewis is
faithful to his principles. His personal style is almost a trademark and
impossible not to recognize. Techno scene has evolved and he has evolved with
it but always in a straight line, adapting himself perfectly to the new
tendencies and keeping his touch and his vision. This new ep is full of
trippy pads and powerful bass lines. Mesmerizeng techno as its finest and
with a small cherry on top of the cake: a remix by Rodhad. His first time
with us and there is no greater feeling, specially knowing the huge artist he

industrial harbour of Rotterdam, the fresh started 'Self Reflektion' techno
imprint presents its first release. The person responsible for starting the
label is stranger, who also goes by the not-so-mysterious name of Mitchel Polderman
in daily life. His debut release 'Warehouse Memoires' reflects his passion
and interest for the 90's warehouse rave sound in various ways, all produced
while living in a Warehouse down the docks of Rotterdam. Featured on the
release are the original mix, a recording which can be marked as a 2014
warehouse techno track. The 'UK Rave mix' probably speaks for itself,
breakbeat influenced techno, 90's UK warehouse material. The US Revival mix
takes you from Chicago to New York in 4 minutes, and closing off the release
is the Bergweg mix - an additional DJ Tool for the hoover freaks |

in style, ASC serves up a thunderous atmospheric amen break assault with The
Arcane. A calming intro with clean breaks and swirling fx, welcome eerie keys
before heavy kicks thrust the track into life with crisp weighty amens
snatching your attention. The undertone bass complements the break work
perfectly, and the atmosphere gradually ratchets up over a subtle backdrop of
effects and pads. A true aural statement. Dreamy synth-work, lush pads and an
understated bassline punctuate State Of Mind, before the apache takes centre
stage amidst mournful melodies and echoed snares, setting an unforgettably
melancholic tone. A subtle but bliss love-letter to yesteryear. An impeccable,
ever-building composition up next, as stabbing breaks and synths introduce
Force Majeure. A moody bassline sets the tone, before 'whooshing' soundscapes
flood the senses. Myriads of elements are frequently added into the mix, as
the atmosphere envelopes relentlessly throughout, resulting in a production
masterclass. Closing the EP is the cleverly titled Threeform. A chilled-out
treat dialling back the intensity with a luscious calming vibe over freestyle
3/4 time signature jazz breaks. Infused with relaxing brass samples and
laidback approach, ASC provides yet another example of his production skills.

2023 repress - Kicking off a new
concept for Palinoia, I'm presenting a previously unreleased Donato Dozzy
track that I first heard in his infamous "DDKH" mix from many moons
ago. I regularly harassed Dozzy about this in hopes he had plans for it, but
after almost a decade of being questioned he told me to just put it out
myself, provided I was doing a track for the B-side. Knowing full well I
couldn't make anything nearly as gorgeous as Donato's underwater techno
groover here, I decided to go for something a bit more upbeat and party
friendly, all the while as wiggly as the masters' contribution |
