Life
has changed in the eight years since the release of II. In ours, yours and
Gala Drop themselves. Most times without noticing it, partly due to those two
years of a semi-existence that still resonates and with the ongoing predatory
gentrification process changing the landscape and life of Lisbon, home to the
band since ever. Close to a decade and a half of existence, with various
mutations along the way enacting new perspectives and moments of stillness
and reflection to a sound that's been mutating itself to its own internal
rhythm and agency under the guiding light of the core duo of Afonso Simões
and Nélson Gomes. Now a trio, with Rui Dâmaso transitioning from II after the
departure of Jerry the Cat and Guilherme Canhão, Gala Drop sound even more
focused as a working band, with their new album title Amizade – friendship in
Portuguese – making perfect sense in a celebration of their, by now, patented
soundworld of cosmic inspiration: krautrock's endless and hypnotic potential,
dub's sense of transient space, the throb of house, balearic dreams,
polyrhythms and a communal sense of belonging. Again, this sprawling sphere
of influence opens itself to new shapes and inspirations, but there's a
deeper sense of accuracy and direction, with the band channeling those
legacies into something we can only grasp as the Gala Drop sound. An organic
outcome of working steadily as a trio, made possible by a residency promoted
by gnration in Braga, Amizade dwells on the psychedelic nature of the group
through seven tracks made up of dreamy synth washes, loads of percussion,
echoes, chilled guitars under a radiant aura. Gala Drop have never sounded as
openly dubby as on 'Dub da Meia Noite' and 'Areal Dub' or capable of
converging different tropes of the hardcore continuum – rave stabs and cut up
vocals – on a slow burner as memorable as 'Monte do Ouro'. Or given free
reign to electricity as on the narcotic guitars of 'Guitarra Voadora' –
excepting the one off with Ben Chasny on 2012's Broda. 'Amizade' points towards
all of that with comforting escapism and wrapping things up 'Raio' turns
dubstep's original bass weight meditations into a cosmic funk workout. One
last hug before we leave. An album that feels like a collective moment of
celebration, just when we most need it. Gala Drop are: Afonso Simões - Drums,

with a double sider of the highest order. Emilia seems to feel right at home
with the material that she cooks up with Cold Diamond & Mink, filling
both songs to the brim with soul. Despite its title, "Trouble"
strolls along with a delicately sweet mid-tempo groove and a nicely abundant
arrangement, each of Emilia's lyrical calls getting a response from the
background harmonizers and the band steady tightening up while the song
builds towards its conclusion. The B-side slows things down to a lush
southern soul drawl, coming off like a classy forgotten Hi session. Both of
these tracks present a singer who has paid her dues by studying the craft and
polishing it for years in front of live audiences. Now it's time for Emilia
to push her voice out there on the wings of her own original songs, a feature
that we've come to expect from the Timmion stable. This release comes with a

"There's
an energy, an atmosphere that you get with live music, an unpredictability
where at any moment something can go wrong or even better right in a way you
never expect. I think about a live set we played at a Lebanese festival where
our MPC drum machine froze up because of all the dust and sand trapped in the
pads. We had to improvise half our set, jamming bass and guitar and pedal FX
and vocals, embracing this surreal environment and experience, something that
could only happen in the moment." "With Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX I
wanted to celebrate those bands and artists, past and present who, to me,
represent that spirit. Both full live bands and makeshift electronic duos
alike, the kind of acts that you might have found wedged between DJs back in
the day at The Hacienda in the 80s, Trash in the 00s or today at nights like
Berlin's MILK ME, EXBTN in Paris, Night Terrors + SC&P in London, New
York City's Synthicide or Ukraine's Worn Pop. So I've put this compilation
together much like my favourite kind of night, going out to see some bands
play, hitting up a club where live music and DJs blur together, before the
serious business of the after party. On Chapter 1 you'll find bands like
Vicious Pink, DAF and Cabaret Voltaire, some of these acts are more obscure
than others, some flirted with pop and even the charts but they were all
embracing new ways of working in the late 70s and 80s that both set them
apart and set the scene for much of what we think of as club music. Chapter 2
moves the night on, and this is the sound of the clubs I love to both play
and just hang out in these days, clubs where the people involved put a lot
more time into digging through the crates than working on their Instagram
Reels. These are places where you're as likely to find a band on stage as you
are a DJ, where 80's German electro pop by a band like Boytronic seamlessly
flows into tracks like Silent Servant's Non Fiction. Timeless music that can
be romantic, dreamlike and ethereal one moment, then veer into dark,
industrial sounds the next. Then finally we get to that part of the night
where you probably should go home but if it's too late for good decisions
there's still time for good music. Things are a bit wilder here, the drums a
bit harder, the synths are more aggressive, tracks like The Hacker's
Monopoly, Zanias' Tryptamine Palace or EVA's Industrial Hope that don't let
up, don't let you go, just subjugate you to the beat and keep you there till
you stumble out blinking into a new day." |

At the time of Conqueror's
formation in 1996, the duo of R. Forster and J. Read were unknown. Forster
had a project called Domini Inferi with drummer Sven Cannon that released one
demo in 1994, and Read was playing murky grinding death metal in Cremation.
But the combination of Forster's merciless riffs and the explosive fury of
Read's drumming produced something novel. When it was first released in 1996,
Conqueror's "Antichrist Superiority" demo presented a distinctive

vinyl. Sampler 8. A1) The Wankelmut Remix of "One Day/Reckoning
Song" by Asaf Avidan & The Mojos was an instant hit in numerous
European countries when it was released in 2012. It spent weeks at number 1
on the charts in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Hungary, to name just a few.
This remix also marked the breakthrough for Wankelmut. "One
Day/Reckoning Song" is described as minimal techno and serves as the
perfect opener for Sampler 8! A2) If you're not familiar with "The
Weekend" by Michael Gray, you've probably been living under a rock for
the past 20 years. This track has evolved into an absolute classic over the
decades and has now found its way to a younger audience, as many emerging
artists are replaying this delightful track from 2004. And rightfully so!
Based on the sample from Oliver Cheatham - "Get Down Saturday
Night" (1983), this track immediately brings your dance floor to life.
An absolute musthave for your collection! B1) Bob Sinclar's "I Feel For
You" is another indestructible house classic! This Morillo Re-Edit is a
contagious fusion of Richie Hawtin's "Plastikman - Spastik" and the
original version. The intro works exceptionally well and is a guaranteed
floor filler! B2) "Temper - No Favors" is a true Italo Disco gem!
Released in 1984 and still incredibly infectious! It carries a distinctive
sound from that era but is simultaneously highly danceable with a delightful
rhythm, a funky bassline, and beautiful vocals. C1) "Reza -
Solitude" in the Jondi & Spesh Remix is once again a hidden gem and
extremely rare on vinyl! Beloved by fans of house and progressive, this
"Solitude" from 2002 is a treat for the ears. A melody that won't
let go, intriguing vocals, and pumping beats! It's a classic in the making
and an absolute essential for your collection! C2) "Bakermat -
Vandaag" was released in 2012 but only became a real hit in 2013 and
2014 with high chart rankings in countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, and
France. "Vandaag" is highly recognizable due to the famous Martin
Luther King sample and the infectious saxophone melody that forms the core of
this track. It has never seen a vinyl release before, so it's fantastic that
you can now include it in your vinyl sets! D1) The now well-known vocals in
this club classic from 2006 come from the less-known reggae track "I Was
Born" by Sizzla. They form the foundation of this classic, with the
Pastaboys Main Mix being the most renowned and best version. A recommendation

Woolvs
is the Brussels laidback pop project around singer-guitarist Willem Malfliet,
accompanied by Casper Van De Velde (Schntzl, Bombataz) on drums, Vitja
Pauwels (Bombataz, Naima Joris, Lara Rosseel) on guitar, Soet Kempeneer
(Hendrik Lasure) on keys and Ruben De Maesschalk (Bombataz) on bass.
Musically best described as the illegitimate child of HOMESHAKE, Connan
Mockasin, L.A Priest and Robbing Millions. After Willem discovered his love
for songwriting back in 2016, he sought musicians to bring his songs to life.
He didn't hesitate for a second to bring in his former fellow students and
close friends, which brought Woolvs to life. All songs originate as sound
concepts and lyrics in Willem's head, after which they are collectively
developed into organic songs resulting in their typical Woolvs sound. Light,
dark, explosive, groovy or open, but always unmistakably themselves. After
years of experimenting with studio technology and electronics, the
realization grew that the simplest way also turns out to be the most powerful
way: five friends playing together. Spontaneity and trust are therefore never
far away. After the release of their debut "Evening Planet" in
2021, it was time to expand their musical universe. Their brand new album "Soft
& Slow" will be out on October 13th on On The Level |

For
more than a decade, Bert Dockx has been one of the most prolific and
versatile musicians in Belgium. A masterful guitarist, gifted songwriter, and
innovative composer, crossing boundaries between avant-garde rock, customized
blues, and instrumental jazz, with bands such as Flying Horseman, Dans Dans,
and Ottla, singing in his native Dutch as Strand, or solo under his birth
name, and now as the Bert Dockx Band. Ghosts is his fifteenth (!) album on
the Ghent-based label Unday Records. Two years after the crash, Bert Dockx
presents his new Bert Dockx Band and Ghosts, an album of rebirth and
transgression, one of many firsts. Dockx never dedicated this much time to
meticulously crafting each song. For the first time, he entrusts a finished
record to a complete outsider. Never before has he reached out so far into
the outside world. The relaxed and positive atmosphere during the recordings
is magnified in what Dockx calls 'my best guitar playing ever', and the deep,
powerful use of his voice in its natural range. 'I had fun making this
album,' says Dockx, 'and I really hope it shows'. 'There's no escape now/ I'm
inside of the storm', Bert Dockx sings on his new album, the first with the
Bert Dockx Band. 'I smile, I cry/ I die, I'm born/ I'm in love'. Ghosts is
the culmination of a two-year odyssey, from hitting rock bottom to
flourishing into new heights. An album of rebirth and transgression, a record
of milestones and many firsts. Never before has Dockx turned so deep inside
in order to reach out to a world beyond himself. The album is mastered by US
producer Philip Weinrobe. Weinrobe previously worked with Arianne Lenker,
Indigo Sparke, and Kings of Convenience, and is praised by Dockx for his

Founded
and curated by DJ and producer Samantha Togni, Boudica is a platform that
aims to give visibility to women, trans* and non-binary artists. Since the
platform was first launched in 2019, Boudica has evolved into a series of
club events in London at venues like The Pickle Factory, Fold and E1, a radio
show, a music conference and a record label. Boudica's mission is to promote
greater gender equality within the music industry. By showcasing diverse role
models from marginalised communities across the music industry, they aim to
engage and inspire young and upcoming artists to pursue music careers
irrespective of their background and experience within the field. In 2020,
they launched the inaugural Boudica Music Conference at Freemasons' Hall. The
full day included educational panels, workshops and live music designed to
encourage more artists from marginalised genders to pursue careers in the
music industry. In 2022, Boudica not only held London's edition of the
conference at the same venue, but they also expanded to Europe. In
partnership with Pioneer DJ, they held their first edition of the conference
abroad in Bologna at the Museum of Modern Art. Boudica Music Conference is
touring in Europe in 2023, featuring talks, workshops alongside Pioneer DJ
and club nights. Last year, they launched the Boudica label, to support and
celebrate female, trans+ and non-binary producers. Supported by Arts Council
England, the label features artists such as Feminyst, Nur Jaber, Wanton
Witch, OCD, Infinity Dreams, Peachlyfe, Yazzus and founder Samantha Togni.
Their previous releases have garnered support from major music publications
such as RA and Mixmag, resulting in a third VA release. The third vinyl,
'Dark As It Gets', is a reflection of Boudica's continual musical evolution.
The release marks a first for the platform, as they issued a callout for
trans+ producers across the world to send in a track to be included on the
vinyl. 'Dark As It Gets' by MIIIA was selected, and the title not only
encapsulates the EP's energy but also Boudica's drive to support upcoming
artists in the electronic music space. The third vinyl commences with
Rotterdam-based duo Animistic Beliefs' 'Vu Sua La Gi?'. The atmospheric track
begins with menacing synths that are soon after enmeshed with vogue, gqom and
percussive vocal chops that build towards a rewarding, melodic breakbeat
cadence at its close. New York-based Jasmine Infiniti's 'Top Shop' is the
second track on the release. Skittish breaks and warped vocals skip across
brooding, muted chords that eventually dissipate to reveal a hypnotic synth
melody. The vinyl's B-side begins with Metaraph's 'Emotional Intelligence'.
The track marries pummelling kick drums, heady chords and transcendent
melodies, all of which serve to guide the listener from triplet hard bass to
trance bliss |

Producer
and live artist Dold jumps into KEY Vinyl with fibrillating, fully charged
rollers. With a potently effective gear on both sides, the Swedish artist
proposes a cluster of proper loopy peak time material. Welcoming us into the
Dold realm is Loop 1, serving some big room shunts and non-invasive
waterfalls of bleeps. Shakers step in to round up the atmosphere and shortly
after, hats come through guiding us on track with the rhythm. Loop 2 heads
into orbit powered by a macabre atmosphere and heavy pendulous bassline- a
KEY trademark. And then comes the flip side... Oh the flip side... Here we
are launched into a void of hypnotic repetition and mind-bending, deep brain
stimulators. In the midst of plangent sonic devices, B1's groove appears more
reserved as quivering synth tones pirouette between labyrinthine, metallic
whirrs. Yet, the undulating bass locks our feet in a pacing, rhythmic spiral.
With Loop 3 the mind is allowed to float into abstracted, mystical
soundscapes as the body is coaxed into the rumbles of the low ends. B2 closes
off the ride with a joyful, dubbed out Detroit funk. Panned arpeggios fill
the room with positivity- it will be impossible not to smile. With Kompass,
Dold exposes a spectrum of different energies and sounds which ranks him as
one of the most versatile, talented producers of this decade |

House Connoisseurs are back with another storming EP of various artists for
dance floors worldwide. This V/A features some big hitters in Phoreski and
Felix Dickinson as well as San Diego's Terry Jasinto, Seattle's Lock and

stylings in the realm of acid and cosmic. Phoreski's Kyoto Dawn leads the way
with it's deep and euphoric vibe floating along leaning deep and etherial in
all the right places. Felix Dickinson follows up with his remix of Phoreski's
track bringing the 303/acid into the forefront building it into a monster
chugger complete with droning synths and 808 accents. Look for a sweaty
frenzy at the climax of the track! San Diego's Terry Jasinto makes his THC label
debut with a tech house gem that pumps and weaves with it's dynamic drums and
synth stabs. With several nice subtle layers of acid throughout, it is
perfect for a high energy dancefloor. LA's Praus continues to produce deep
and complex tracks for THC records showing he has an ear for unique
programming. His release, "Heedful" quickly gets your attention
delivering haunting synths and beautiful acid lines in the cosmic fashion
only Praus can deliver. Seattle's own Lock and Hammer rounds out the EP with
an unusual and quirky burner that intrigues and delights in a wealth of

Industrial punk from this
mysterious duo, primitive but original and catchy. Punk as it used to be,
confrontational, cynic, mean and with a dark sense of humour. Hailing from
Barcelona they also are part of the infamous duo Ca de Bestiar, which is sort
of the reverse of this project: while in Ca de Bestiar the punk component
prevails over the industrial one in España the punk element is only left on
the vocals and the attitude. And as with Ca de Bestiar, they enlist Viktor
L.Crux as producer and mixer. They avoid cliches but also avoid pretension,
these tracks sound natural like there was not much thought put into it but
pure instinct, which is an exceptional feature these days. Daring djs will
find that tracks like "Bushido" or "Ayudame" are

first sampler gets off to a flying start with the A side featuring the
absolutely legendary track 'Ten Seconds Before Sunrise' by Tiësto, repressed
here for the very first time since its original release. For the second track
on the A side we are going for 'Made in France' with 'The Milky Way' by
Aurora Borealis, a true rave classic originally released on Laurent Garnier
and Eric Morand's label F Communications. The B side is all about 'back to
basics' with the classic house track 'One Kiss' (Fathers Of Sound One Mix) by
Pacha, one of the many guises of UK house legend Dave Lee, best known as Joey
Negro. Equally classic is 'Hablando' by Ramirez, closing the B side in true
90's house style. On the C side we are going all out with the exceptional inclusion
of a cult Jam & Spoon record 'Odyssey To Anyoona', released back in 1992
on Belgium's legendary R&S Records. A glorious return to our roots,
completed by Ransom's 'My Dance', a pure house gem and one of La Rocca's
greatest hits. Finishing on a high note the D side kicks off with the
timeless piece of music that is 'Shed My Skin' by D*Note in the ubiquitous
Pete Heller remix, who is of course also responsible for the hit 'Big Love'.
O.T. Quartet's 'Hold That Sucker Down' is the final piece of the first

dance music antagonist Works Of Intent redefines big room techno on ‘Richer
Sound’, an album sampler with four new tracks to accompany the digital
release of his album of the same title which features with six all-new tracks
alongside six cuts previously released on Laurent Garnier and Scan X's COD3
QR label. Works Of Intent is a vital voice in the underground who champions
the sounds and stories of South Asian creatives in his role as Project
Manager and Visual Designer for DAYTIMERS. He has also written multiple
essays on race, class and privilege in the industry while laying down
expressive sets across four decks at key clubs like fabric, Panoramabar and
Rex. His emotive, storytelling sounds have come on labels like Turbo, Rekids
and Monkeytown, and outside that, he's a go-to mix engineer for some of the
UK's most exciting prospects. ‘Richer Sound’ features six tracks previously
released on the label’s Various Artist EPs and six brand new offerings that
avoid tired big room tropes. Gone are the snare rolls, white noise risers and
kick drops, instead Work's operates under the mantra of "big tunes for
big hearts" where musicality makes the motive. The artist himself has
taken care of the artwork, mixing and mastering and says of the album, “It’s
melancholia turned up so loud you can’t ignore it. It’s a deafening barrage
of emotions designed for super clubs. It’s unsubtle, it’s unabashed, it’s
unrelenting, and it wears its heart on its sleeve. It’s unmistakably a work
of intent.” Cars and motorsport have been a recurring theme in previous Works
Of Intent releases and appear again here in 'Left Unseen', which has the high
octane, death-defying adrenaline of rally driving perfectly transposed into a
big room techno experience. ''Old Ways, New Mistakes' bounces boisterously

comes Italian producer Giuseppe Scarano with the bouncy next instalment of
Fluid Funk, 'My Life' EP. True to his solar-powered take on the classic US
house sound, the owner of the Nice People outlet beckons us onto the path of
luscious summer lounging with a quartet of no-nonsense dance floor rippers,
lithely alternating sequences of hi-intensity shuffle, Roule-style dynamics
and further space age-infused drifts across the scintillating vaults of glam
disco. Jacuzzi-warm funk and coastal luxuriance all the way. Drawing first
blood, 'My Life My Love' is a proper fiery blast-off, flush with Scarano's
continental breakfast of roaring Chicago drums, spinning synth motifs,
processed brass and balearic-like ambience. Churning it like there's no
tomorrow. 'Gedda Feelin' continues on a slightly more jagged note and

BLANKA are back on Room Trax's newest vinyl release, providing two original
pulsing cuts. And for the occasion, the imprint's runners are accompanied by
two high-caliber remixers: none other than Matrixxman and Adriana Lopez. With
"Nightmare", Angioma proposes a piece that is destined to keep the
dancefloor lively with stylish fashion. On remix duties, Matrixxman places
his touch on the original, adding cinematic and futuristic soundscapes which
