Female rock group Birtha formed
in Los Angeles in 1967, a talented quartet with guitarist Michelle
Pinizzotto, keyboardist Sherry Hagler, drummer Olivia Favela, and bassist
Rosemary Butler, who opened for The Stones while in The Ladybirds: Pinizzotto
had been in The Daisy Chain. After gigging the west coast, Gabriel Mekler
signed them to ABC Dunhill in 1972 for this hard-rocking debut LP, a gritty
original with plenty of balls, plus an emotive ballad from Pinizzotto, but
despite extensive touring in support of its release, opening for The Kinks in
Britain, the LP remained unjustly overlooked, making it now ripe for

Source Experience aka Robert Leiner delivers this disturbingly fat acid
techno 12" on Borft that gets into your ears and brain like a locomotive
straight from the rave days. On the A-side a crushing stripped down funky repetitive
acid stonker that will spank old and young ravers like they were one big ass.
B1 continues in a similar fashion but with a almost electro-ish backbeat
instead of straight 4/4 and strong hints of classic EBM in the bassline and
percussions. The hairs on my arms were standing up at this point. B2 is a
weird surprise ending with a downtempo, strangely harmonic, melodic and
almost romantic track which somehow reminds me of the Frak classic
"Uttoz gives a song". If you are into Acid in any form this
12" is a no brainer, a must have, a future classic. And make sure you
have doubles so you can mix together A and B1 and extend them into eternity.

Purple vinyl. This concert, put
together to celebrate Dutch music magazine Vinyl's fifth anniversary, was the
Smiths' first show in the Netherlands. 'Miserable Lie', 'I Don't Owe You
Anything' and 'These Things Take Time' returned to the setlist. They were
rarely performed at this point in time. The latter two titles were almost at
the end of their live career. During the recent tour of the UK 'Hand In
Glove' had been the standard set opener and its intro extended by a few bars.
For some reason, even if the song was still opener in Amsterdam, the normal
intro was brought back. After the latter number Morrissey introduced the next
planned one by saying: 'Thank you, this song is called 'Heaven Knows I'm
Miserable Now'. The song had just been recorded and it was planned to be
released as a single one month later, so this live performance was much
closer to the studio version we are familiar with |

Two and a half years after their
acclaimed last release 'Less Is Endless', De Beren Gieren ("The Bear
Vultures") have finished their seventh full album. What Eludes Us is an
ode to what escapes us and what we consciously want to look away from. For
this new full album, the band left aside the unimaginable beauty of the
Norwegian fjords and crawled into a dusty recording studio in Bergen harbour.
They did so with the celebrated and mysterious producer Jørgen Træen (a.o.
Jaga Jazzist), who silently watched over the imperfections andinterference as
a guiding force behind the adept playing of the electro-acoustic jazz trio.
The result turns out to be compelling music with deceptive rhythms, clear
melodies and uninhibited electronics in a way that also managed to surprise
them themselves. With De Beren Gieren, it is clear that there is still gold
to be struck from the classic jazz piano format. Instead of changing
direction, the band resolutely chooses to dig deeper |

Deejay
Jah Thomas was one of the creative figures making a dramatic impact on the
Kingston sound system scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, the rhythms he
laid at Channel One studio with the Roots Radics helping to steer reggae
towards the emerging dancehall style. Voicing and mixing his work at King
Tubby's studio, typically with the young upstart engineer known as Scientist,
Thomas got his start as a quick-witted deejay in the vibrant sound system
scene of western Kingston, making his recording debut in 1976 with 'Midnight
Rock,' a hit that became the name of his record label, once he shifted to
producing his own work. Dance Hall Connection, which first surfaced in 1983,
is easily one of his best LPs, Thomas ably riding the rough Radics rhythms with
style. The title track is a variant of the 'Boneman Connection' theme that
references dancehall's grounding in sound system culture, 'Friday Night
Jamboree' salutes the music's potent allure on a top cut of the
'Entertainment' rhythm, and 'Let Him In' implores the gateman to allow an
impoverished dreadlocks into the dance: 'Nigger Skank' warns against
wrongdoers, oker Smoker' pokes fun at those who can't handle their herb, and
'Living In Jamaica' describes various aspects of lifestyle on the island.
Elsewhere, Thomas enters boasting territory on 'Cool Profile,' disses
combative women on ealous,' recounts his girlfriend's dubious antics on 'Gal
A Laugh' and implores another not to forget him once she emigrates. Flash it,

This collection of Jamaican doo
wop from the late 1950s through to the early 1960s represents a period in
which sound systems had begun to dominate the island, and were starting to
step up their rivalry by beginning to record and release their own platters
rather than rely on imported records to gain the competitive edge. With the
uniquely Jamaican ska explosion yet to completely catch hold, these tracks
are largely imitative of the doo wop and R&B sound that had been reaching
the island from American shores & radiowaves, albeit peppered with hints
of what was to come ~ some of the future stars of ska, rocksteady and reggae

Coral
Morphologic and Nick Leon's Projections of a Coral City marks a series of
collisions between distant worlds: the organic and the artificial, the Eocene
and the Anthropocene, sea and cement--and even, perhaps, ambient music and
activism. Coral Morphologic are the Miami duo of marine biologist Colin Foord
and musician J.D. McKay; since 2007, they have used a variety of multimedia
projects to generate environmental awareness of marine biodiversity--most
notably Coral City Camera, an underwater webcam streaming live from an urban
reef ecosystem in PortMiami. Their citymate Nick Leon is a linchpin of South
Florida's contemporary leftfield electronic scene, with releases for Tra Tra
Trax, Future Times, and NAAFI, and credits on records by Rosalia, GAIKA, and
Iceboy Violet, among others. This collaborative project dates back to 2022,
when Coral Morphologic mounted a monumental projection-mapping installation
on Biscayne Boulevard. For five nights in late November and early December,
macroscopic films of corals played out across the exterior of Knight Concert
Hall. The installation was, on the one hand, a glimpse into a possible
future, imagining how the city's skyline might appear if unchecked global
warming and rising seas led coral reefs to colonize the built environment.
But it also represented a look back into the deep past, a reminder that Miami
is literally built from marine limestone mined from the Everglades. Its
concrete foundations began life, eons ago, as a marine ecosystem--the same
ecosystem that may one day reclaim them. As above, so below. As an album,
Projections of a Coral City is a suite of interconnected movements spread
across two sides of vinyl. The tones are watery, the mood elegiac, the colors
a washed-out pastel. Forms that appear static on the surface gradually open
up to reveal hidden depths teeming with microscopic movement. You might
detect resonances with other aquatically minded works--Jurgen Moller's
Science of the Sea, Harold Budd's liquid piano compositions, even the
slow-moving melancholy of Dr. Roger Payne's Songs of the Humpback Whale. But
ultimately Projections of a Coral City creates the impression of a world unto
itself--a hauntingly beautiful space at the meeting point between sorrow and
hope |

moving ride across the record. With playful shifting of gears and jacking
rhythms, the A2 flows into the next track Dusty Room, utilising the bleepy
pitches in contrast to the expansive spheric tones, offering an energetic
boost of a melodic techno work-out, with hints of sharp dub edges. Reclaim on
B1 highlights the versatility of Mode_1, comprising multi-layered scales,
evolving spiral sounds and a build-up of reverberating tones that escalate
with poise. As a closing track of the record, Platform 8 is one of those B2
sides that you keep reaching out to. This ultimate big-floor tool is loaded
with advancing movement, keys with mystical undertones, and depth of texture
that play with the infinite nature of the number eight. Unlocking the
animated cover of the EP and seeing it come to life virtually, adds a new

bOkOr and Cannibal 2012 were made around the time feroX released the infamous
Gargoyles EP on Black Acre, which was hammered by everyone from Skream to
Gilles Peterson at the time. Pulled off a defunct hard drive, resurrected and
remastered. Complete with two new tracks the mighty Mondo! Mondo! and Aum, we
have another ground-breaking, genre defying EP for 2024. We are proud to have
