"“The
New Backwards” was conceived by Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson in 2007,
revisiting stray tracks which hadn’t seemed to gel with the material he had
chosen for the more somber “Ape of Naples” from 2005, COIL’s initial
posthumous release, a sort of requiem and a kiss-goodbye to his then recently
deceased partner John Balance. Significantly different to its sister release,
this album collects the brilliantly chaotic and outrageously rhythmic
material from the original sessions for the album that was begun as early as
1993 and had originally been conceptualised as the follow-up to “Love’s
Secret Domain”. These songs are as diverse and wild as the places they
originated from, partly infamously spawned in Sharon Tate’s former home in
the Hollywood Hills, the Nine Inch Nails home base in New Orleans and
London’s Swanyard, remixed and restructured with the help of long-term friend
Danny Hyde in Thailand, this collection has its own unique flow and an
atmosphere not found on any other COIL release. Both “AYOR” and “Backwards”
had by the time the album was first released already become favourites in
COIL’s manic live performances. Some of the other tracks had only leaked in
demo versions and are here presented updated and polished as Christopherson and
Hyde intended them to be heard. It is interesting to consider Balance’s vocal
contributions, too. Whilst on the albums COIL did release at the time this
material was first put aside (“Black Light District” and “ElpH”) his voice is
all but absent, his vocal performances and his lyric writing here are
arguably more closely indebted to the previous “Love’s Secret Domain” era,
especially the epic “Copacaballa” is noteworthy in that respect. The New
Backwards” effectively became the final official COIL studio release of all
new material whilst Peter was still alive and is here presented for the first
time fully supervised by Danny Hyde, its co-creator. The stunning cover uses
a detail from artist Ian Johnstone’s “Cubic Raven” painting, licensed from
the estate of IJ.. It is high time to rediscover this timeless album with the
Infinite Fog release boasting eight further tracks of previously unheard
material from the same sessions, rough working stages and surprising remixes
which will surely delight the dedicated COIL archaeologists, as they shine
yet another light on the creative process and on what could have been.

There are echoes of Coil's mid-1980s cult classic album 'Horse
Rotorvator' in 'The Ape of Naples' in that it has such a wide variety of
sounds and styles. This one first came back in 2005 and is a go-to for fans
as it is just a great example of the band's singular sonic world. The album
was put together by Peter Christopherson a year after Jhonn Balance's deadly
fall and it features re-workings of the live favourites like 'Amethyst
Deceivers' and Love Secret's Domain album track 'Teenage Lightning' plus a
numb of tunes first meant for the ultimately ill-fated Backwards long player.
Grammy-nominated engineer Jessica Thompson has remastered all the originals
for this new reissue |

After

Bird etc. The MACHINES deliver a great version of Bill Doggett-s "The

"Le Diable En Personne" is their seducing French version of
"Shakin- All Over", the classic, orginally by Johnny Kidd ^ The
Pirates. Other than that their own compositions are no less superb. If it-s

Records celebrates its fifth year with Lumo, a new vinyl-only series built
around the darker corners of the dance floor. The first edition gathers four
artists whose productions move naturally through the night -- from tension
and space to drive and release. The record opens with Andy Martin, a
Mexican-Jamaican artist whose dub-infused "Wicked Tune You Know"
nods to UK bass influences, with a percussive undertow and an addictively
off-kilter synth line. Finnish favourite Sansibar makes his return to the
label with "Innerwelt," a twisted electro cut laced with acid
paranoia and washed-out vocals, slightly unsteady but always in motion. On

Caesars aka Caesars travelled the world in search of world dominance for
about a decade around the turn of the century. With their unbridled garage
pop they turned some heads, rocked out and had a massive hit with the song "Jerk
It Out" used in an Apple commercial. This record collects early releases
of Caesars in their infancy when their sound was more primal outpatient

Two
Lisbon mainstays from contiguous generations join forces as Scam Dust for the
new Paraiso record: Tiago, Lux Fragil resident, world-renowned DJ's DJ and
all-round music whizz plus Shcuro, Paraiso's co-founder, scene documenter and
impeccable selector & producer. Funnily enough they also live in
contiguous beach towns in the outskirts of the capital, Parede and
Carcavelos. That's where they zig-zagged amid home-studios and, four hands in
various machines, concocted this refreshingly to-the-bone record. Like a
non-local entanglement between Lisbon, Sheffield, The Hague and somewhere in
the American Midwest, 'Gastric Pulse' EP opens with a saturated, modulated
acid line over a tight, industrial-tinged techno beat, peppered with sonic
dirt of the highest order. It sounds like music projects like Downwards and
Mathematics would put out. 'Enzyme Breaks' follows suit with a comparably raw
spirit, adding some mysterious atmospheric scintillation and drum variations.
A certain recluse techno (is that a thing?) comes to mind (and heart), Unit
Moebius style. Toms abound in 'Pepsin Drive' - always a promising sign in our
book - and the playfulness continues in the cheeky bassline and the intricate
clap work. Soulful stabs give the tune extra magic via the mantra-like
structuring power of repetition. The final track in the record comes from
Pacific North-West transplant Doc Sleep and her collaborator Elias FS step in
for remix responsibilities and flip the B1 into a hypnotic, dubby - and yes,
jazzy - piece complete with a dive into glitchy, sonic sculpture territories
towards the end of the arrangement. Quite the brilliant take. Music still
counts (and always will), after all is said and done - and nothing like two
hard-working music-makers to remind us of that |

Records, in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, presents the premiere
vinyl edition of Jerry Goldsmith's marvelous score for John Frankenheimer's
sci-fi-horror-drama cult classic SECONDS (1966). SECONDS starred Rock Hudson
- in an astonishing change of pace, as the film campaign ads said - as an
unhappy middle-aged banker who agrees to a procedure that will fake his death
and give him a completely new look and identity. But it comes with its own
price. Jerry Goldsmith's fascinating score take us on a musical journey
through one of his finest works, building on the psychological complexity of
scores such as FREUD and his work on THE TWILIGHT ZONE while anticipating the
effective contrast of sacred and profane on future projects such as his OMEN
trilogy. The soundtrack of SECONDS was released 13 years ago in CD on La-La
Land Records, paired with the Goldsmith score for I.Q. Mono music stems were
the only source available at the time, and they remain so today since the
session masters are gone. But thanks to new technology that has appeared in
the intervening decade, this vinyl edition -produced, restored and mastered
by Chris Malone - has been significantly improved, eliminating all dialogue
bleed and other defects inherent in the sources, as well as allowing us the
opportunity to present all score cues as heard in the film. This audiophile
LP edition has been pressed in 180 GM ultra clean transparent vinyl, cut at
45 RPM for best sound quality, and it's limited to 500 units only |

whilst I was starring as H.R. Pufnstuf in the titular US documentary of the
same name, Earth Covers Earth followed up the apocalyptic SingSong Sounds of
Swastikas For Noddy with another clutch of classic C93 chimes, none of which
bothered the Hit Parade In Any Way Ever. Many of the songs on this beautiful
album have been tattooed on the inner thighs of the Illuminati. The drugs had
stopped working, and I was staring into several voids, as I couldn’t focus on
anything, whilst Moving Waves played in the foreground and background and in
the underground tube too. Remastered from the original tapes by The Bricoleur
at Bladud Flies!, and with the original artwork refreshed and reborn by Rob
Hopeye, this 12” vinyl picture-disc comes in a full-colour die-cut sleeve,
which is printed on both the outside and inside.This is one of the second
group of 4 reissues of the entire back catalogue of C93 on picture-disc and
standard vinyl, in the lead-up to the publication of my autobiography at the
end of 2026, whilst I also work on many other recording, publishing, and
painting projects, and Watch And Pray! Each release in the picture-disc vinyl
reissues series is limited to 1,000 copies, and the titles will not be

Mesmerising album of Yokota’s
earliest sonic explorations that demonstrates his unique vision and sublime
transcendence of boundaries. ‘Image 1983-1998’ is a collection of short
miniatures, composed in two different time periods. Tracks 1-5 were recorded
with guitar and organ between 1983-4 and tracks 6-12 were composed through
97-98, being inspired by the earlier material. A musical scrapbook, or sonic
design board. The sleeve notes give an insight into Yokota’s belief in a
close connection between music, memory and his active imagination:
‘Encountering Acid House made me visualise music – I could clearly see the
sounds sparkling… this experience led me to create electronic music.’ |

Laseech,
a Croatian producer and Cosada label owner with releases on BBE, Lumberjacks
In Hell, Red Ember Records, and Forbidden Dance, is continuing a string of
excellent releases with Rising Soul. Known for his dedication to house music,
Laseech has built an international reputation through collaborations and
remixes with some of the genre's most respected architects, including Ron
Trent, Patrice Scott, Javonntte, and Dego. "Rising Soul is actually one
of the first tracks I did back in 2017 while I was heavily into sampling. I
was jamming with my MPC1000, and Rising Soul came up. I never thought that it
would become such an effective song that works on the dancefloor every
time." Laseech explains. Kez YM, a highly respected Japanese producer
and DJ, has been a key figure in the global house music scene for almost two
decades. Originally from Chiba and now based in Berlin, his unique approach
to house music has led to releases on esteemed labels such as City Fly, Faces
Records, Yore, and 4Lux. When describing his version of the track, Kez simply
stated: "VIBES." Well, no one will argue with that. The last
version comes from Cycle Records' founder Jan Kincl, a prominent Croatian
music producer and DJ with releases on labels like BBE, Far Out, Sonar
Kollektiv, and Get Physical. "I've been playing Andrej's original for
years. He undoubtedly made some good stuff recently, but this one remains
among my firm favourites from him. Kez delivered a beautiful version that
took it further towards jazz territory, so I decided to make a version that
would bridge those two." Jan explains. "I knew we could build a
very good record around Rising Soul, with versions that would give DJs
different options for different moments during the party. I guess we did a
good job because some of the early supporters include DJs from all over the
place - Laurent Garnier, Alex Barck from Jazzanova, Marcel Dettmann, Alex Nut
(Eglo), Sasse, Chicago's K' Alexi Shelby, Lakuti, Ian Friday and Truncate,
among others |
