From
the ruins of the birthplace of techno ... Detroit Underground returns with
this, their twenty second release, in a catalogue that has come to define the
outer limits of experimental electronics while still adhering to dance floor
basics. This edition sees DU label boss Kero return to the spotlight in
collaboration with LA based sound designer and interactive director Drasko
Vucevic, aka Drasko V of Los Angeles based DRASTIC Music + Technology. Drasko
has recently created, among other things, sound design for a promotional
featurette for the Academy Award nominated film Gravity. Given the label's
long time fascination with the intersections of music, art and technology the
collaboration is as fitting as it is fruitful. Side A ups the collaborative ante
as this 12'' comes blasting out of the gate with two very strong remixes,
Exponent is the subject of a relentless 4/4 treatment from LA techno
exponents Drumcell while Superheavy gets an acid-style work out from Canadian
producer Jesse Somfay's Borealis project |

Next on EPM Music we revisit a
track from Esteban Adame’s excellent ‘Day Labor’ album released last summer.
The ‘Rise & Shine EP’ features a vinyl edit of the original as well as a
new mix by Esteban – the Beat Mix. But making this release even more special
are the rare remixes from Detroit’s unparalleled squadron, Underground
Resistance. ‘Rise & Shine’ was the shimmering and ethereal introduction
on Esteban’s ‘Day Labor’ album, but for the EP we open with a Beat Mix that
layers these elements over a tough bass and some raw beats to take it to the
dancefloor. The beautiful Underground Resistance Remix follows. It’s deep and
soulful with the addition of some classic UR strings, delivering everything
you’d expect from this influential crew. Flip-side on the vinyl version
starts with a shorter vinyl edit before Mark Flash of UR takes over, lending
the original a tough house groove that delivers plenty of raw funk into the
bargain |

After
starting up the infamous Invites Choice podcast series in 2011 and launching
his Invites Choice Records with a debut EP by himself, Tim van Paradijs
(A.K.A. Invite) continues with a banging follow-up-EP. The EP starts with a
percussion driven, repetitive track by the likes of Spanish producer Tadeo,
dubbed Deeyiam. This track lends itself perfectly for those deep yet powerful
sets. Zadig is put on duty for A2 and deliverd a straight forward yet funky
track named Dr. Fastolfe in which the low, bassy synth stands out and just
draws you straight into the track. Invite, like in his podcast series, likes
his fair mix of established artists and newcomers to the releasing scene. New
to the vinyl releasing game are Dutch duo Moving Thoughts; they provide the
EP with the oldschool oriented track Lost in which both the heavy-hitting
kick and bass and the evolving and repeating synth stand out. Invite closes
the EP with his track Micro which shows that Steve Rachmad influenced both
his DJ-sets and productions for a great deal. 4 different artists, 4
different tracks but a very strong and coherent EP indeed! |

Rare
Self produced tape from 1993 - LP including free bonus cd , limited to 500
handnumbered copies. It's been exactly 20 years since the first SUICIDE
COMMANDO album "Critical Stage" was released on the German Off Beat
label. It was the promising start of a long and ultimatily succesful career
and today SUICIDE COMMANDO can be easily described as on of THE leading harsh
electro acts in the alternative scene.
What some of you might not know is that Johan Van Roy still released 9 (!)
tapes before releasing his debut album in 1994. "Electro Convulsion
Therapy" was the last and without any doubt the most succesfull tape
released in 1993. It already contained the original 4 track recordings of
later clubhits like "Traumatize", "Necrophilia" or
"Time", but also featured other pearls like "Close Your
Eyes", "Sheer Horror" or "How It Feels".
"Electro Convulsion Therapy" holds the complete last tape on lp,
but also contains a selection of the best songs from the other early tapes
released between 1988 and 1992, including several rare songs and even one
previously unreleased song as a bonus on the free included cd version |

The Noisemaker debuts on Natch
LTD series with State of Matter Ep, a deep, dense four tracker driven by
groovy and propulsive rhythms. State 1 begins its path from the depth, a
virtual paranoid entity excavates its way down to the lower grounds. State 2 is
a restless groove, a compound of impetuous drums and ear itching
interferences. A texturized whirlwind of broken beats and acid trips get
involved in State 3, giving the Bside a ritualistic vibe, that closes with
costantly detuned melodies in State 4, final cut where stomping percussions
throw up an obsessive synthline. Effective and sharp release from the italian
noisemaker, delivering a great package of sonic burners |

R&S is teaming up for a one

history, The Prodigy. Roadblox is one of the standout tracks from their
latest opus 'The Day Is My Enemy'. R&S's arena filling noisenik Paula Temple
was honoured to remix the track and has provided two superb remixes the first
featuring the full, snarling vocal from Maxim, marauding bass, bleeping synth
arpeggios, noise squalls and pistoning percussion combing to apocalyptic
effect, while the second removes the vox for an even deeper trip. Liam
Howlett and R&S founder Renaat Vanderpapiere's friendship goes back a
long way so they are hyped about this release. As Liam says: 'I've always had
massive respect for R&S records and Renaat since the start so its fukin
great to see a Prodigy tune in the shape of Paula Temples heavy Roadblox
remix come out thru the label' |

Chevel's
past releases for Stroboscopic Artefacts have exhibited an emotional and
tonal range that goes well beyond the predetermined expectations placed upon
modern techno producers. His special skill - for creating an engaging and
diverse rhythmic music that doesn't sound like eclecticism "for its own
sake" - is one that puts him in an advanced class of sound-heads
conducting similar experiments in differentiation and evolution. So it's a
natural move for Chevel to acknowledge the rest of the class by inviting them
for a new EP of remixes from his most recent Stroboscopic Artefacts LP. Like
that parent album, the four remixes on this new release can't be easily
tagged with catch-all genre descriptions: a high compliment in an age where
this quest for differentiation can be a real challenge even for the genuinely
talented.Paula Temple's opening gambit blasts into the listener's headspace
with a high level of intensity and urgency, laying down a primer coat of
prowling bass and radioactive zaps that contrast unexpectedly well with the
placid synth swells from Chevel's original mix |
