For
its fifth release, viennese techno imprint Bare Hands is pushing its rugged,
warm analogue sound towards new territories. After putting out music with
label-mate Julian Derkits under the Bedlam moniker, Sedvs comes up with his
first solo EP. The founding member of Bare Hands Records deepens his
excursions into classic nineties techno with his new „Pieces Of Agition“ EP.
Undeniable birmingham style compression on the basslines and monotonous,
clinical execution of the rhythm section are very much a reflection of his
own selections when DJing. Side A kicks off with ambient track „Sunshine And
Roses“ and descents into up tempo tracks „Brace Of Shakes“, playfully
contrasting dryed out kickdrums and hypnotic vocal sampling encased by a
daunting bassline. Continuing with the more toolish track „Affection“, Sedvs
lays out the blueprint of what is his nineties referencing take on techno.
Side B, the more eclectic side of the release, starts out with an
uncomprosing 138bpm track „Lust“, tapping into more spherical fields with
closing track „All Or Any“ |

With
over 30 releases on some of electronic music’s most celebrated and innovative
labels such as Bpitch, Warp, Ghostly, Shitkatapult and Touchin' Bass as well
as his own critically acclaimed Detroit Underground Records and Kerohand
(with Kelli Hand), Kero has established a reputation for unrepentantly brash,
yet cultivated compositions. Gotshell meanwhile, is a mysterious deep sound
producer, formed in the dark and cold nights of Colombia’s Pereira.
Delivering simple, straightforward, stripped down, cavernous techno without
hype or fanfare, Gotshell has appeared on labels including Planet Rhythm,
Nachtstrom Schallplatten and Kero’s Detroit Underground. Combining their
talents for Blueprint 20th anniversary year, we’re given four tracks of dark,
thoughtful electronics from the sweeping soundscapes and deep beats of
‘Samaria District I’ to the looping sonics of ‘Operation’; and from the
hushed experimental tones of ‘Ex Adenoma Pleomorfico’ to the EP’s dense and
dubby closer, ‘Perindsor’. A promo video with visuals by the
denial.of.service captures the tone of this artistic and articulate release |

The
third release from new imprint Dama Dama, is another offering from label
co-founder Pedestrian; following the label’s well-received debut EP -
‘Circadian Rhythms’. ‘Pick Your Shots Clean’ is a track inspired by this
spring’s European Dama Dama Label Launch Tour, which saw founding members
Pedestrian & Maribou State take to the road, curating bespoke parties
with back to back all night DJ sets. As ever, the music itself is hard to
categorise, but we would say that it sits somewhere between a rugged 90’s
Chemical Brothers track and a 70’s Arabian psych-rock Record. The flipside -
‘Airs & Graces’ - serves as a counter-balance (a kind of yang to the ying
of the a-side), that picks up where Circadian Rhythms left off, taking the
listener off on a melodic 5-minute trip. Currently gearing up to release a
new signing in the Dama Dama camp, the team also have their sights set on the
curation of festival stages, more intriguing night endeavors and a new
mixtape series; all set for delivery over the coming months. Pedestrian now
with his sights firmly set on writing his debut LP, will be found at a number
of festivals over the summer |

DREF033 sees the return of two
long time label friends and contributors, the Scottish Deepbass and the
Italian Ness. Despite the fact that both of them are prolific enough solo
acts as it is, once in a while they combine forces and deliver a co-produced masterpiece,
to which the Outer Limits EP is no exception. However, make no mistake: the
fact they have found their signature sound, does not mean they aren't
constantly reinventing themselves. For this occasion, the two have made
sporadical use of euphorical synth sounds, even gently alluding to trance at
some point. Apart from that, they have adequately built their ever-evolving
soundscapes upon subtly processed percussion. A welcome addition to the two
original tracks presents itself in the form of the talented producer Shlomo.
The Frenchman has given his version of Outer Limits a powerful breakbeat
foundation, making this EP into more of what it already was: a match made in
heaven |

was quite a challenge to expand on his trademark, however what we have here

extreme. Composites is a blend of atmospherics, grinding rhythms and
perfectly positioned harmonies that come together quite beautifully to create

Illusions
of Power is about political corruption, the collapse and seizure of control,
sparring nations, war, drugs, gangs and the fraudulent, media systems that
spin it all into rolling, fear-mongering 24 hour loops. Illusions of Power is
about the horrors of the modern world and a humanity haunted by its bloodied
past. But as every long dark tunnel comes to an end, Illusions of Power too
has its glimmers of hope.Written with an arsenal of hardware gear from the
Londoner’s studio in Berlin, Dax J’s Electric Deluxe debut is a militant, yet
atmospherical dancefloor assault. As he has proven over a slew of EPs for
EarToGroundRecords and labels like LDNWHT, Deeply Rooted, Clergy and his own
Monnom Black label, his sound is a compelling and thoroughly contemporary
one. Dax J’s productions are typically mercurial, informed by thepast and
fortified with a wide range of influences from acid and ambient, to jungle
and drum & bass. His EPs are rich, kaleidoscopic ventures involving an
array of tempos and moods, and Illusions of Power is nodifferent |

Returning
to Houndstooth a year since the release of his One Sound / Layer Lock EP is
Second Storey. After spending most of 2015 focussing on his collaboration
with Laurence Osbourne - Second Storey & Appleblim present ALSO - over at
R&S Records, Alec Storey came back into the fold as part of the
Houndstooth 3rd anniversary compilation earlier this year. Now he returns to
the label in full with a gleaming new EP, Bismuth. Initialising the release,
title track Bismuth takes inspiration from a documentary on the visually
impressive metal. Affected by its angular, complex 3D elements and fluid like
structures the music itself mirrors the element’s appearance deploying the
intricate precision of IDM creating its own multiplex of textures. Created directly
after moving into his new studio, second track Vapor Valve is the product of
Storey feeling invigorated by his fresh set up. Melodic poly rhythms and
chord structures define the track from the outset which work neatly with
Storey’s trademark tight percussion, which sits in that golden spot between
bass and electro |

Veteran dub techno producer
Brendon Moeller dons his Echologist alias on 'The Flame' EP. The title track
is the most experimental, opening the record with tripped-out machine
melodies and off-beat drum hits. 'Kavorka' follows in the same vein but is
more obviously dancefloor-focused. Its arps build up the tension until a
thick 303 line takes things to tipping point and eventually release. On the
B-side, 'Dirtbox' is a fast-paced, Echologist take on warehouse techno and a
deep, atmospheric cut 'Candy Mountain' finishes the record in Moeller's
signature style. Mastered by Neel (EnissLab Studio, Rome). Pressed on 180g,
12” vinyl at Optimal Media, Germany. Packaged in a house sleeve. All artwork

Three
long years after it last graced our ears, the Parallel Series is back with a
new pair of well-established producers. This fifth edition sees Sev Dah and
Jeff Rushin take on a side each; the result being four expertly crafted
pieces of techno aimed straight for early mornings on darker dance floors.
Sev Dah doesn't mess about, opening the A side with Svarog, a fierce workout
with rough rolling percussion and a pleasingly off kilter melodic line. We're
then taken deeper with Morana, a winding adventure with the mood of those
early Detroit tracks but with the production values of today, and an
evolving, transcendental melody sure to take dancers to another place. Jeff
Rushin begins the AA with what has to be the most disorienting track on the
release. A distant kick drum disassociates you from the rising intensity of a
ringing synth line, before the two gradually fall together with added
percussion to bring your head back into the right space. The release ends
with Obsolete, a track that quickly disregards its name by filling the audio
spectrum with layers of dissonant panning and shuffling hats |

Hitting the music press headlines
recently was news of a second Floorplan album. Now M-Plant delivers a first
taste of this highly anticipated release with two tracks from the album,
'Music' and 'Tell You No Lie'. Floorplan is already well known as Robert
Hood's house, disco, funk and gospel outlet, which this year evolves into a
family affair with co-production alongside his daughter, Lyric. 'Victorious'
will be the second Floorplan album and follow-up to 2013's 'Paradise' which
spawned 'Let's Ride, 'Baby Baby' and the massive 'Never Grow Old'. Set to
replicate the success of 'Paradise', 'Victorious' will be released in June.
To precede it, the single released at the end of April is comprised of the
bumping house groove of 'Music' (which received it's first global airing on
B.Traits' BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra show in February) and the disco rotations of
'Tell You No Lie'. Both tracks are exceptionally infectious, with tough
beats, glorious vocal reprises and sure not to disappoint |

Rediscovered
80's British acid house gem 'Cortina Kidz' recently made a serious impact on
Andy Butler's Mr. Intl with remixes from Factory Floor and Juan Maclean &
Tim Sweeney. Hot on the heels, Moscow's Lipelis' steps in to remix with
striking results. Pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being 'a chilly
acid-house track operating the influence of both Soft Cell and the Specials,'
XLR8R as 'drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a
downtrodden time in London', while Ransom Note noted 'Cortina Kidz is more
than just an old skool oddity- it's a banger that's stood the test of time'.
Originally recorded on London's Stoke Newington Road in 1987, produced by a
young Tim Brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with Virgin Records
with his band Soho, and long before his current role as manager of Mercury
Prize winners, Young Fathers, 'Cortina Kidz' remained undiscovered and the
eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the
prevailing dance music sound of the time |

Pitch
Black Mirror is the new full length album from industrial techno veterans
Orphx, co-presented by Sonic Groove (2xLP + digital) and Hands (CD). Rich
Oddie and Christina Sealey have created a diverse and distinctive body of
work over the last 23 years and this album may be their most definitive
statement yet. Pitch Black Mirror foregrounds the duo's unique fusion of
techno and industrial but also demonstrates their ability to continually push
their sound in new and challenging directions by drawing on elements of
electro, post-punk, and EBM. The human voice is a central element here,
ranging from subtle layers of samples and location recordings to the more
prominent vocals of Rich Oddie and guest vocalist Marie Davidson. The album
is also notable for its detailed sound design, courtesy of Sealey's modular
synthesizer systems, Oddie's percussion and synth work, and software
mutations from founding Orphx member Aron West. With its sonic and lyrical
imagery of watery depths, lost love, and transmutations, Pitch Black Mirror
offers a sonic landscape that is clearly inspired by personal and social
turmoil but points towards the possibility of creative transformation |

neo-classical ambience in the opener into decisive, utilitarian mesmerism for
the dancefloor in later tracks. He returned again earlier this year with the
Saudade EP for TOKEN59; an overall heavier offering that still manages to
retain some of the delicacy of the first. Now he's back with a 3 tracker for
TOKEN68. Antigone employs an advancement on his usual sonic vocabulary to
produce yet another record of surprising techno tracks. Static's lead is
woody as it begins, then evolves with gradual accents – a confident off-beat
hi hat and detailed highlights varying in aggression. Shadow Play starts out
more panicked than playful, then straightens out under the driving
percussion. This track is all about noisy atmospherics, confusing our sense
of space through masterful panning. Where the A-side is staunchly
anti-melodic, Walking Distance is dulcet in comparison |

Perc Trax is proud to announce
the first collaborative EP from Randomer and Perc, two artists working in
different areas of the UK dance scene, but who share a similarly
uncompromising attitude towards pushing their sound forward. Randomer's
connection to Perc Trax has grown from his set at the Perc Trax Boiler Room
session in late 2014 to his first appearance on the label with his recent
remix of Ansome's 'Back Alley Sally'. Across this EP the two producers fuse
together Randomer's intricate rolling rhythms with Perc's aggressive snarl to
serve up three tracks of screw-faced north London grot |

The fourth instalment of Oscar
Mulero's own Pattern Series is now here, introducing three tracks of
futuristic techno for the collectors out there. The first cut is
"Form", a flanged hypnotic exercise of functional techno, made up
of a continuous line that grows to utter madness, spiced with resonant bleeps
and noises and a subtle beat. Next up is "Textures". This
rhythm-oriented grooved number relies on a relentless beat, with only subtle
changes that make it the perfect functional tool. "Color" goes
deeper with more floaty textures intelligently twisted at slow rates, again
in a linear arrangement excellent for long mixes. As usual, this comes in a
wonderful package with special translucent plate |
