Based
in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Calder City Development Corp. was developed to
build and reshape the landscape, structure and concepts of urban electronic
music by using a philosophy of deep experimentation and raw vision. The first
release Stratospheric Architektur' comes from West Michigan native
Translate', who's debut release Station Identification' was on the legendary
label FEROX. This three track EP features two 10 minute bangers for the club,
very much techno but with house sensibilities that should satisfy deep house
to techno heads. Face 1///Break beats begin this release but then is quickly
changed into a four on the floor. The rumbling kick establishes the pulse as
a hihat comes in to join the rhythm. The baseline come in slowly, syncopated
as it likes, steadily as more percussion establishes the groove. Long chord
pads come in to say hello as they steadily modulate underneath the feeling
emanates soft and hard simultaneous. The tune gives of opposing feelings but
always of goodness. Face 2///A kick drum drops that introduces a vocal sample
that slowly fades in from the ether. Flowing pads join slowly giving a sense
of ubiquity |

Even with the first sounds, the
organic structures can be heard - and felt. A crystalline crackling of the
hi-hat very close to the ear, as if the black volcanic sand of Lanzarote
would trickling on the metal. The echo of the samples does not point to endless
distances, rather, it swings up the cochlea and enters into a special world
in which sound material develops a delicate self-life. It is the world of
Denis Rodd, producer and label founder of Cochlea Music, who moved from the
Canary Islands to Berlin. His first EP on Cochlea Music is Embryo. Everything

Alek Stark is responsible for
some of the finest boutique vinyl releases available. His 808 boxes, DMX drum
machine replica and plexi-glass sleeves for Fundamental Records are legendary
in the electro fraternity. Stark's attention to detail in everything he does
is particularly apparent in his music - his tracks are all first class
analogue electro. He pulls no punches on this E.P. with heavy 808 percussion
alongside a myriad of modular noise and synth workouts. Cold, robotic and
reminiscent of early Psyche / BFC with deep chorused pads creating an
off-world dystopian theme that runs throughout this release |

Umek
continues his Zeta Reticula series for Billy Nasty’s Electrix with ‘EP 6’.
Last year Umek reprised his Zeta Reticula electro moniker to continue a
series for Electrix, which originally ran between 2000 and 2003 prior to the
label’s more recent re-launch. ‘EP 5’ released in October last year was
highly regarded by the media and gathered DJ support from within the often
interwoven techno and electro scenes, from big-hitters like Dave Clarke,
Laurent Garnier, Adam Beyer and The Advent, to electro tastemakers like Andy
Bass Agenda who welcomed Umek onto his show. Opening ‘EP 6’ is the
bass-quaking ‘Reticulum’ as the release instantly sparkles and explodes into
electrofunk action, followed by ‘Solar Analogs’, like a ticking time bomb.
Both tracks have already seen early radio plays on Dave Clarke’s White Noise
show ‘Rotating Protostellar Cloud’ heads up the B-side with its more Moroder
/ Kraftwerk era sound that’s epic and melodious, before ‘Circumstellar Debris
Disk’ completes the quartet, with a flurrying filmatic soundscape approach |

After discovering Non
Reversible's unique take on techno via his contribution to two Apotek various
artists releases, we though it was time to bring him to the Knotweed family.
Non Reversible mixes acid with the darker atmospheric tones of techno, adding
many rhythmic - almost tribal - elements, to his tracks: a subtle blend of
old school and modern techno that fits perfectly with the spirit of Knotweed.
Enjoy! |

Myk Derill is back on Knotweed
for the fifth time with his immediately recognisable style of techno: bare to
the bone, minimal, repetitive and ultra percussive, yet most important of
all, super groovy. Touches of acid in 'Four', slowly evolving mental groove
in 'Comparison', ethereal voices in 'Reach Me', and finally heavily distorted
stabs in 'Inattendu': this E.P. Can be used in all sorts of techno
circumstances |

New versions of Tensal’s
‘Opposite Inertia’ EP, with a remake of his own and contributions from Mike
Parker and Pangaea. One the most distinctive artists in techno, Mike Parker,
combines his signature, modulated bassline and sharp claps with the off-kilter
rhythm of ‘Inertia 1’. Tensal’s remake of ‘Inertia 2’ is direct, peak-time
gear. The synth line is kept front and centre, the beat is heavy and expertly
arranged. Pangaea, of Hessle Audio, switches up the broken rhythm of ‘Inertia
3’ and adds the kind of unusual touches that make his records stand
out.Mastered by Giuseppe Tillieci aka Neel @ EnissLab Studio, Rome. Pressed

Roog
Unit is the new production duo fusing together the talents of Luke Slater and
Ø [Phase] a.k.a. Ashley Burchett, the music being the result of many months
of discourse and growing connection. They have already joined forces in the
recent past: Ø [Phase] contributed a striking remix of the Planetary Assault
Systems classic "Dungeon" for the radical reassessment program
"Planetary Funk: 22 Light Years," and the two shared DJ duties
during last year's "22 Light Years" tour. The apt title of the
debut EP for Mote Evolver, "Mesh," suggests a locked grid or set of
axes on top of which all sorts of creative possibilities can be sketched out,
and it provides a perfect descriptive metaphor for the interaction between these
two skillful heads: like carefully interwoven strands, neither half of the
duo dominates the proceedings and each individual's contribution strengthens
the effect of the other's. The self-titled leadoff track on "Mesh"
is a bracing bombardment of the senses, pulling out all the stops in order to
get ever closer to a white-hot core of intensity |

explored by a fine selection of artists such as Abdulla Rashim, Silent
Servant, Efdemin, Function and Pris. The A-Side is brightly remixed by the Swedish
Abdulla Rashim who delivers a progressive and hypnotising machinery techno on
‘The Net’. LA-based producer Silent Servant, adds an industrial aspect to his
version of ‘The Need Of Development’. On the flip side, Berlin’s
interdisciplinary artist Efdemin reincarnates ‘The Motivation’ by adding
introspective textures, which is followed by Function’s powerful version that
enhances the angular orchestral beats of ‘The Big Steps’.Non Series once

Adding to previous 12'es on
Ostgut Ton and his own RK label fellow Neuko¨llner and Berghain resident
Kobosil offers four new uncompromising Techno club tools. While all cuts on
the 105 release share filthy, stone-cold, elemental rhythms - pounding, energetic
and hypnotic 4/4 kick drum slaps - the devil is, like with all Kobosil
productions, in the aesthetic details. '40000 L' uses gargling synth patterns
and howling horns to dramatic effect; 'Bei Nacht H (178)' contrasts the kick
with a harsh, tinny drumbeat and menacing melody pad, creating a nightmarish
vibe. 'Backmask N' on B1 offers heavily alienated vocal samples alongside
rave-reminiscing synth stabs and staggered hi-hat percussion. 'Derange'
closes this four-tracker with grainy drone echoes and throbbing, sizzling
synth pulses. Adding to Kobosil's full-floor-focussed sonic repertoire 105
shows him from his darkest and most vigorous side yet - this 12' is a brute,
in the most positive sense |

The tension between the natural
and artificial, the body and mind, are central themes in electronic music in
general, and Techno in particular, as the means of creation, focused around
technology and interactions with machines, contrast with the emotional
response to sound, the mystical ritual of collective dancing, and the ethos
of liberation and tolerance embedded in the culture it produced. We’re
navigating a world of engineered pleasures, big data monitoring of movements
and consumption habits, and falsely objective representations of reality,
further blurred by a reduced attention span and several opaque layers of
cultural interpretation and political manipulation.Manichean simplifications
are used to create hate and fear in order to achieve domination and impose
limits on freedom, and the irrational belief in endless growth, increasingly
disconnected from nature, led to massive environmental destructions and waves
of unprecedented extinctions of species |

Here is an introduction to the
Betty Hill story. Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple who were
allegedly abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of New Hampshire
from September 19 to September 20, 1961. The incident came to be called the
"Hill Abduction" or the "Zeta Reticuli Incident" because
the couple stated they had been kidnapped for a short time by a UFO. It was
the first widely publicized report of alien abduction, adapted into the
best-selling 1966 book The Interrupted Journey and the 1975 television movie
The UFO Incident. Very interesting is that Betty drew a star map of, by the
time she was drawing it, an unknown star collection. Later scientists started
to investigate it and discovered it really existed. They called it Zeta
Reticulli. This music is inspired by the story and the interviews with Betty
Hill |

Token
is pleased to announce Metabolism, the sophomore album from Sigha. The LP
marks James Shaw's third release on the Token label following his singles
Christ Figures and Our Father. Metabolism represents an arrival: the artist
offers his definitive statement on a production aesthetic that has been in
development over the last few years. Shaw's work as Sigha has always placed
the listener at a centrifugal point that invites a clandestine hypnosis
rather than an abject hysteria. Cavernous low ends fixed firmly and
effectively in a mono space tether the music to the body, while exquisitely
executed white noise patterns and crystalline pads warp and hiss around the
stereo environment. This keen ear for distinction within the frequency
spectrum acts as the central theme on the LP. Metabolism encompasses a power
dynamism that departs from the explicitly greyscale finish found on his more
conceptual work as Sigha and as A Vision Of Love for Guy Brewer's Avian
label. Though elements of Metabolism maintain a driven, corrosive quality,
each searing sequence or mordant drum machine hit occupies its own space |

The
Ctrls class of inventive, inorganic techno is a mainstay of Token's output.
For his ninth solo EP, he takes a trip down a back alley to the spirit of
some of his earlier releases on the label. The Shortest Path starts with
flitting high-end precision accompanied by a gracefully deviating tone that's
as close to the natural world as Ctrls is prone to handing over. It takes on
new life with a sparse and ultra-synthetic groove. Rush Hour is gripped by an
acute yet almost-imagined drone that builds intensity before going all in.
The oddball break takes it down and whips back around to shuddering effect.
Crash is a full-scale collision. Slamming into that Ctrls brand of strange
and discordant percussive details, a fierce and perfectly unpleasant bass is
teased by semi-conscious accents. Highway comes in on a half-step,
straightening up with a muted klaxon crescendo into hypnotic transit. A first
for Token, the Routing EP includes two staggering, driving locked grooves
crafted in the spirit of the rest of the record |

From
his very first release, Johannes Volk's strict yet creative adherence to the
Detroit tradition has garnered him a position among the greats. Renowned
these days as a producer with a seemingly-unending ability to produce
classic-leaning futuristic techno, Volk has built a serious discography over
the past 11 years. This body of work includes the founding of his own
ultra-conceptual label, Exploration, as well as releases on Tief Music,
Construct Re-form and Dolly. For his first Token offering, Volk goes above
and beyond with the 4-track EP Designing Evolution. The title track rushes in
with meandering, staccato synth-work while the gradually opening hihat and
subsequent ride advance frenetically overhead. The strings are spacey,
leading to a cinematic break with full-on regal fanfare. Escapism is sparse
and roomy. With more melodic wandering, grand swells accompany a pleasant,
digressive bell, forced ahead with functional percussion. Cosmic Clockwork's
subdued lead takes us straight to 1995 Detroit and expands as the track
shuffles onto full power |

Inigo Kennedy's refined,
courageous sound continues to be a definitive element of Token's output.
After the NCG EP and Surrender / Castles in the Air as his ongoing successes
for the label in 2016, Kennedy is back with a 3-track EP for Token 74.
Tornado is vast and cinematic. A thundering kick becomes ripe with swelling
strings followed by a bright, wistful lead and long, suspenseful breaks that
take the track to filmic levels of poignancy. Glacier is more measured in its
expression, with icy keys playing out a restrained sentimentality over a
serene, earthy groove. Voyager is energetic; crisp and crunchy percussion
melds into an ever-moving melody that wavers in and out of the foreground |
