|
|
Since
Jim Coles took on the mantle of Om Unit, the English producer has sought to
challenge himself and his audience by going beyond the confines of genres and
styles he has so far explored. In the process he has found success by
striving for more feeling, for a more human and daring electronic music. This
journey continues with Self , Coles third album as Om Unit and a true
follow-up to his 2013 debut Threads. Self captures Coles in a period of
growth, change, and experimentation. Inspired by personal psychological and
emotional healing work, and a vision of the self as an egg which Coles later
on discovered is a Jungian archetype the album blends dubwise, bass-heavy
music with the space of experimental ambient compositions and the daring
imagination of a cold wave science fiction soundtrack. The first Om Unit
album on Coles own Cosmic Bridge label, Self offers new forms amid familiar
touches. Stripping away what people might expect, Coles deconstructed and
reimagined his work so far as a challenge to himself and, in turn, to his
fans |

French
electronic music stalwart ''Umwelt'' has produced some modern day classics
throughout his career. After a string of releases for several renowned music
labels this time around, the Lyon based musician joins P.E.A.R.L.'s falling
ethics imprint and comes up with the thirteenth installment in the series.
''Strange Attractor EP'' is a well balanced EP that showcases several sides
of Umwelt's signature style that sits somewhere on the edges of Techno,
Electro, Adventurous Electronics and anything in between. The release opens
with a rough machine work-out called ''Nocturnal March''. After this, with
"The Collapsing Empire, the sound changes dramatically into one of
Umwelt's signature adventures with cinematic electro. The title track (B1)
maintains the electro'ish ambiance of ''The Collapsing Empire'' but the
french artist adds some taints of paranoia to the mix resulting in a
unprecedented dancefloor effort. ''Across The Abyss'' is a treat for anyone
that's been into Umwelt cinematic sounding escapades. Three minutes of
sweltering synths beautifully aligning with a scorching bassline |

GYNOID013:
Gynoid Audio blasts its way into 2014 with this tremendous piece of wax, made
by no other than Australian mastermind and Elektrax head honcho Advanced
Human, aka DJ Hi-Shock. Since her start in 2010, Gynoid Audio has settled
itself as a real recognizable name amongst the techno premier league.
However, although being known for it's bleak and deep techno vibes, it
doesn't get any deeper than this EP. 'Cure' has this intense throbbing, dark
bassline and a memorable synth, trying to fight it's way out of the
apocalyptic climate Advanced Human has crafted for it. 'Seance' honors it's
name, by combining eerie and spooky sounds which definitely wouldn't sound
bad on Berghains Funktion One system. On the B-Side 'Purple Chords' continues
the play that was formerly staged on the A-side. It proves once again, a
techno track doesn't need to have a stand-out synthline or melody to stand
out in a techno set. Black Hats, from Germany, steps up again for yet another
dubby Advanced Human remix, and does it in style. GYNOID018: Italian artist
D-Leria makes his first appearance on Sydney techno label Gynoid Audio with a
solid 6-track EP |

The original Klakson funkateers
Steffi and Dexter return to true form with three punchy techno/electro cuts!
"Zatlap" on the A Side is a lush nighttime driving track with an
urgent bassline powering all through the song while spaced out strings
develop. The B-side's "Kopstoot" is a pure funk workout in the
Detroit tradition while "De Fles" builds a stack of airy pads on
top of a playful question and answer bass riff to maximum effectiveness!!! |

It seemed like Neo Ouija, a
Norfolk based IDM imprint, had closed up shop. Four years of silence
suggested that founder Lee Norris, aka Metamatics, had decided to call it a
day. But looks can be deceiving. 2016 saw the boss release a CD album of
fluid acid, squelching electro and heartfelt electronics. Shipwrec are now
bringing four choice cuts from Bodypop to the vinyl faithful. Proudly sitting
on the "difficult to define" shelf, Norris seamlessly shifts from
frigid winter moods to warming autumnal sunshine. Old-school sounds are
rewired, softened by delicate keys and steady beats. Machine music morphs
into organic matter. Acid coils, echoed bleeps and clicks grow and blossom
into vivid audio vistas with Metamatics, once again, proving his musical
mastery |

Soma welcome back long time
collaborator Tony Scott under his Edit Select alias with The Bridge. Having
recorded such classics as X-Track under Percy X, Tony has since found new
depths with his Edit Select moniker which has seen countless releases on his
own self titled label and more. With an album currently planned for release
on Soma in early 2018, Edit Select takes his first steps onto his hometown
label with this new single. Suitably deep production is always the order of
the day with any Edit Select release and this one is no different. Title
track, The Bridge, begins with a chugging beat before gradually undulating
into epic soundscapes. Flux takes a darker turn as twisted synths resonate
throughout the typical atmospheric backdrop. Tonalist creates more rhythmic
scenes with intense percussive elements keeping the track moving |

After
unanimous praise for Talker's "Battle Standards" and play from the
likes of Ancient Methods, Headless Horseman, Sunil Sharpe, Mumdance, Shifted
and many others, Standards & Practices returns with a powerful set of
remixes from iconic UK techno artists Surgeon, Regis, and Broken English
Club. Anthony Child kicks off the proceedings with his first remix in a year,
and it's one of his best to date. His version of "Battle Standard"
takes the track in a radically different direction, building a hair-raising
wall of sound culminating in an unforgettable melodic refrain-beautiful and
brutal in classic Surgeon fashion. The A2 track is a special bonus: a Talker
cut only previously available on a limited edition CD compilation. Entitled
"My Favorite Color Is Gold", this is a dark and cinematic ambient
take on "(Gold) Standard". On the flip, Oliver Ho delivers a remix
of DJ favorite "Snub Nose" under his Broken English Club alias. His
overhaul is nothing short of remarkable - only retaining a segment of the
original drum track, he adds a post-punk-esque vocal while a vicious,
monotone bassline snarls underneath, sounding like it slithered off of a Big
Black LP sometime around 1985 |

In
the ever continuing stream of Soul Notes releases. Labelowner Kastil is
pleased to announce the new 'Stale' outfit. Stale by Soul Notes will purvey
jagged sounds throughout the more adventurous sides of Techno. With a most
appropiate title for the first track (The Beginning) , Kastil takes one to
faraway lands through noteworthy drum patterns and animated synth work. The
sophomore bit (Paroxetin) is reminiscent of hardware hymns somewhat in a Den
Haag fashion. Unilluminated acid sword fights meet tragic pads that float
throughout. Sheol (B1) is Kastil's menacing take on profound techno. Quirky
percussion sequenced form a cohesive alliance with the again ominous synth
work that subtly hovers on top. Markov (B2) is an advanced synth journey that
shows the basque-county Wizard's present capabilities and thrives on rich
emotive tones
that travel through one's ear channel with great spirit. Incessant Siege is
the first in the line of many on the newly founded Stale by Soul Notes
imprint. Madrid based artist ''Irazu'' has a couple of tricks up his sleeve |

After his successfull Internal
Conversion LP on Polegroup, Christian Wunsch returns home to Tsunami Records
with his third album Sadistic Rituals. Wunsch has been an influential figure
in the electronic music scene for over twenty years with an arsenal of unique
sonic trademarks produced with high precision. Sadistic Rituals is a mature
labour from Wunsch's mesmerizing 11-track excursion into light and darkness,
instantly recognizable as fitting with his own sonic identity. The title
hints at what to expect from the album. Sadistic Rituals have been occurring
for hundreds of years. Allegations of sadistic rituals involved reports of
physical and sexual abuse of people in the context of occult or satanic
rituals. In their most extreme form, Sadistic Rituals and aspects of the
occult involve a worldwide network organization within the world s most
powerful and wealthy elite in which individuals are abducted for sacrifices,
pornography and prostitution |

Part of a new breed of Detroit
techno, we are delighted to announce Ryan Crosson’s debut Wagon Repair EP.
Having already released on Trapez, Telegraph and M_nus under his alias Berg
Nixon, Ryan’s floor friendly live sets and shuffled percussive styles are
getting many excited, with due cause. A side ‘Confiteria Del Molino’ is a
bassy and deep bomb. Introducing itself with eerie warped vocals and
strutting beats, dynamic melodic tones hover above a subtle synth
progression. Enlivened by stabbed horn samples, percussion and booming bass
is key to this track’s heavyweight strength. B1 ‘Sunshine Wave’ is slightly
lighter, opening with a bouncing melody and chattering percussion. A huge
bass sound opens things up, accented by needling synth and fueled by a classic
prodding techno kick. To close, ‘Use Me Up’ bubbles with melodic tone and
stuttering crackled samples. Subtly progressing to a simple beat and rumbling
bass, distorted vocal arrangements haunt the mix as flighty pads howl in the
distance |

Very
LIMITED album discs available now: This is the first album Oscar Mulero has
released under his own name, after two acclaimed LPs under the moniker
Trolley Route. Well known for his skills as a hard-edged, raw and
floor-orientated techno dj, his productions go far beyond, digging deep into
the intricate landscape of intelligent techno, floating moods, reminiscent
atmospheres, harmony and detail. Grey Fades To Green is the affirmation of
his maturity as a producer, using both hardware and software in the pursuit
of a highly coherent and diverse album. The concept is split into two parts:
The Grey and The Green, each one with its own character. The first part is
rougher and meant for the dance floor, although pays full attention to detail
and complexity. The second part is quieter, has a slower pace and is best
enjoyed at home. The Grey opens with 'Under The Street lights'. An academic
techno track with FM bass, heavyweight drum programming and an evolving
structure that builds up to a melodic and mental ending with an unforgettable
synth line. 'Taken To The Wrong Way' slows down the bpm a bit in order to get
that fatter sound |
