Interceptor's last release for #BNR was his "Memorial Park Tapes"
EP, a title that felt especially apt due to a signature sonic characteristic
of his production- that of a well worn cassette, bass compressed into a sort
of paradoxically quivering strength. "6th Element," Jensen
Interceptor's newest release with frequent collaborator Assembler Code brings
this aesthetic in a darker, more focused, more serious direction without
losing the grit and grain that colors his work.The result is 4 tracks of club
ready, weaponized techno heavy on EBM and industrial influence with an agenda
to menace.The titular track is both the deepest and most frenzied, with a
tension and release arrangement built for the dancefloor and a percussiveness
that's all body. From there, things get dark. 2231 is an evil acid stomper
with haunting metallic hits strongly rooted in the likes of Skinny Puppy and
early Noise Unit. FM Expander takes an interesting approach to reductionism,
with a Jersey club kick pattern keeping time for sparse, bitcrushed
percussion and an eerie early 90's Goa trance arpeggio |

The
cult band based in Madrid and Rome, influential industrial pioneers of the
pulsating, hypnotic and tribal rhythms since 1980, presents new album: Fluida
Mekaniko. Since its previous album "Ultraphoon" (2013), Esplendor
Geométrico has performed more frequently than ever during these last two
years in different countries and festivals (2016 for the first time in the US
and Russia), while there was a documentary feature film about the group
launched in Madrid, Geometría del Esplendor, directed by a renowned Spanish
director within the avant-garde cinema, José Ramón da Cruz. The film has just
been premiered at the prestigious In-Edit festival in Barcelona, receiving an
honorary award. Fluida Mekaniko has been recorded during 2016 and contains 12
new tracks that, although they continue the line developed since Pulsión
(2009), we also find here references to their most harsh and noisy sound of
the 90s. Industrial Neo-tribalism where mechanical rhythms hypnotize, like
mantras, inducing the trance. It highlights, already a distinctive feature of
E.G., the inclusion of voices and sonorities of African, Arab and Asian music |

years later, this Fall, Dave will release "Cosmic Path"on
Infrastructure. The cosmic connection. Damon Wild and David Sumner (aka
Function's) relationship dates back to 1991 at Lord Michael's Future Shock,
Limelight, New York City - when Damon was running EXperimental Records via
Northcott Productions. At the time, he first saw something in Dave and added
him to Brand X, a record pool run by Moneypenny. But their bond is based
around a period 5 years later when Dave had an apartment above Rogue Music at
251 West 30th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. It was during this time Damon
developed him as a Synewave artist and released his first EP as Function in
the Fall of 1996 - catalog number; SW-24. Falling in and out of touch over
the years, across continents, the two have somehow remained on the same
cosmic path. So it's not a coincidence that now Damon has turned to Dave to
release his first album in 13 years, during the time he is reissuing that
first "Synewave EP" on "Recompiled I/II & II/II"
(A-TON LP02/03). This is where those paths cross again... |

The
working relationship between producer Psyk (a.k.a. Manuel Anós) and
Mote-Evolver continues with the new Silent Witness EP, another episode
showcasing Psyk's expert balance of technical variance and affective
consistency. The EP title brings to mind the kind of frozen state of awe that
accompanies intense, revelatory experiences of all kinds, and the careful
build-up of each individual track here allows plenty of room for such a state
to come about. Put another way, Psyk's simple but dense constructions rise
and fall with a perfect, patient arcing motion that make the music feel very
much like a first contact with some uncanny new form of intelligence.
"Disorder," for example, leads in with a curiosity-provoking combo
of rubbery kick drum and gated synth sounds that seem like sonic
accompaniment for observing the conduction of electricity across neuronal
pathways. Its gradual intensification, via shivering and cleanly spaced

record from way back - 1995 to be precise. If you don't know this record it's
possible you've been in a coma, living in a cave with no electricity or have
literally just arrived here on planet earth. Either way, once you hear
'Higher State Of Consciousness' you certainly won't forget it. Produced by
Philly's legendary Josh Wink and released by the forward thinking A&R
team at Strictly. At the time there was very little to nothing that even came
close to this release. The 'Tweekin Acid Funk' mix being the highlight and
the version that caught everyone's ears and captured minds worldwide across
radio-waves with endless rewinds on MTV and in the clubs. Foreseeing the impending
'Breaks' boom that came around in the mid to late 90's 'Higher State...' was
one of those rare moments where a record truly transcends genre boundaries

Monumental House anthem alert!
Another classic jammer from 1992 lifted straight from the Strictly vaults.
This one's HUGE. Phuture aka acid House pioneers Spanky and DJ Pierre (with a
little help from Roy Davis JR) turn in a driving, acidic monster in true Wild
Pitch style. Probably the only record that begins with a sinister voice
saying 'This is cocaine speaking' before diving head-long into one of the
best anti-drug House records ever. Absolutely brilliant. Bubbling 303
basslines and cavernous handclaps combine with a funked out, dubbed out synth
line that just doesn't stop. Phuture will survive, and they weren't lying
when they said that as this record (among too many others they had a hand in)
still rock today. Yep, still fresh. Tried and tested, often imitated, never
bettered. Phuture are the originals. Open up your eyes (and ears). This one's

Best known for his ambient
excursions as Voices From The Lake alongside Donato Dozzy, Neel joins Token
with the 4-track Calcata for Token 76. From his collaborations with Dozzy to
his solo work for their joint-run label Spazio Disponibile, Neel's studio experience
as a mastering engineer has gained him recognition as a producer who pays
great attention the technical aspects of his sound. The title track falls
within our expectations of exquisite ambience, with fluid, rhythmic mids and
a delicate interplay of organic and unnatural noise in the high end. The

Sigha's lauded Metabolism album
is further commended with a remix EP for Token 77. With three highly
qualified label newcomers enlisted to the task of reimagining aspects of the
album, the music is reworked into a new context to powerful effect. Wata Igarashi's
flourishing recognition as a producer with striking competence and flair has
marked him as a valuable affiliate on the record. He demonstrates different
areas of focus with two new versions of Black Massing. The Daylight Breaks
Remix opens up the high-end, expressing the delicate harmonics of the
original with rushing upward arpeggios. The Dusk Falls Remix instead hones in
on the deep and anticipatory nature of its foundation. Marco Shuttle's
foreboding Morning Star remix feels skilfully subtractive, magnifying
elements by adding space and drawing focus to its melodic asides. Function
plays with the contemplative nature of Down in his version, adding dynamic
percussion and energy while retaining its expression and depth |

Over
the last 10 years Token Records has grown steadily, both in size and
stylistic breadth. The aptly-titled Momentum comes as a celebration of the
close-knit family of artists amassed throughout the label's running. The
record is a fitting collaborative project, with every track on the album
produced by two longstanding and well-respected artists from the label's
roster and especially commissioned for the release. This type of
collaboration is intended to showcase the specific sound of the label, developed
through 10 years of careful curation, as well as bringing out the individual
identities of the artists involved. On the development of the label's sound,
Token founder Kr!z comments, "Inigo delivered quite the statement with
the first release Identify Yourself. I think identity was and still is key in
the development of the label and the artists." Inigo Kennedy's
involvement in Token has been profoundly influential and spans its very
existence; with three collaborative tracks on the record, it's easy to hear
his trademark cinematic sound throughout |

Token
mainstay Inigo Kennedy had no fewer than three collaborative tracks on
Momentum, the 3LP release put together to celebrate 10 years of the label's
output. As Token's first ever releasing artist and now long recognised as an
integral contributor to its distinctive sound, Kennedy continues to offer his
part in shaping the label's identity. TOKEN79 feels conceptually complete as
a record: The similarities between the tracks are almost as striking as their
individual qualities. Each piece is titled in reference to planetary layers,
each presenting another piece of the same world. On the A-side is Magma, with
a lead that's refreshingly candid in its tenderness, soaked in reverb and
sprawling with variations that gradually increase in complexity, carried by
subharmonic pads it diffuses into the mix. Mantle is more percussion focused.
Much of its movement is dictated by a pitch-bent woodiness that meanders in
stereo while the composition rumbles on and opens up to a crescendo that's
powerful, yet measured in a way that's characteristic of Kennedy's control |
