As
an artist it's essential to be connected to your heart, to feel what it has
to say. I felt my heart telling me in the past two years to connect to the
roots of trance of which I grew up on. This path has led me to find my inner
child - his passion for music before he became a DJ producer, his desire to
consume pure music without fear or expectation of what people are expecting
him to create. I've walked with this child together day after day into the
studio, listening to his ideas, translating them into music created by a
35-year-old man. This was the creation process of my 3rd studio album (2nd as
Captain Hook) 'Origin'. Although I grew up in the psytrance culture and
genre, influences from techno and bass music played a big role in the
formation of my sound. The synthesis of these styles marked the beginning of
something new, and the origin of the deep hypnotic progressive sound that is
now at the core of my creation. Following my heart to where it was leading me
was not always easy, since modern psytrance seems to be pointing producers
towards very different soundscape directions |

Hence we start the new year just like the old one. What could be more festive
than kicking off with a new Partial Arts release. For the forgetful ones:
Partial Arts are Ewan Pearson and Alastair Usher. Their latest effort „Telescope“
could easily be tagged as Krautdisco. It‘s hymnic, epic, slightly
psychedelic, bacchanal and hovers gently over the dancefloor. The notorious
thump comes via the deft hands of Vito Roccoforte who normally works in The
Rapture‘s shooting gallery. Somehow this sounds like new music. Something we
can‘t match with anything we‘ve heard so far. Accordingly, Mr Matt Edwards
aka Radioslave submitted his most mature remix to date. Ewan Pearson says:
„Erm, it‘s hands down the darkest, scariest, most out, avant, abstract, least
commercial thing he‘s done in years. 13 minutes of drums, fx and weirdness.
Nothing else. The Wire will love it but it ain‘t gonna be an Ibiza hit.“ We

you were to dash through cross-dimensional portals somewhere on the other end
of the multiverse for a routine, there's good chances you'd be listening to
Galaxy Lane's 'Voyager 1' full blast in your saucer. Next in line on Lone
Romantic, the mysterious producer from outer-space lands a particularly
delectable debut transmission fuelled on wilder-than-wild electro grooves,
glitchy radio disruptions and boy, a healthy dose of laser-precise early rave
breaks. Interlarded with cryptic vox samples drowned in distortions and sonar
echoes scanning an endless horizon of unknowns, 'Take Off' takes us for a
zero-G drift across the greater void as an introduction. It's with the second
track, 'Landed', that the engine eventually starts to bolt and race, drawing
us into a planetary waltz of sorts, as Saturn rings go hula hoop and the
moon's craters get irresistibly itchy. The spaceship's dropped anchor off a
sun-deprived belt of mercury lakes, and hostile alien territories are ahead.
No time for laser battles and other robot-assisted jousts, Galaxy Lane's here

Robert
Hood's Minimal Nation is justly revered as one of the most important and
defining techno records ever made. His iconic 1994 masterpiece stripped dance
music back to the barest of elements yet retained a loose and dirty funk that
many so called 'minimal' records lack today. Having inspired 1000's of
producers and DJs across the globe and starting a genre a decade before it
was popularly recognized nothing before or since has sounded like it. We now
welcome a re-mastered Special Edition of this classic release 15 years after
it changed the face of techno. Featuring the unreleased 'SH-101' (made during
the same sessions) and the very rare 'Self-Powered' (which only appeared on
the Axis test press), Robert Hood's Minimal Nation gets its first full CD and
digital release. When first released as a vinyl double-pack 'Minimal Nation'
not only sounded unlike any other record but also looked like no other, with
each track finishing in a locked groove that forced the listener to flick the
needle to the next track. Each groove was built from harsh angular elements
that when combined created an alien funk not bereft of warmth or soul |

Hot on the heels of the Floorplan
v Mark Broom double-header on EPM, Robert Hood is back in full minimal techno
mode. 'Reflector / Rotate' administers the techno antidote to Hood's house
alias as his no nonsense stripped down aesthetic gradually reveals layers and
textures of tension and soul within his machine funk ethos. 'Reflector' picks
up from the peak-time driving pulse as shown throughout his 'Paradigm Shift'
project on Dekmantel giving plenty of big room punch just when needed.
Euphoric synths and key changes add to Hood's usual minimal palate, adding a
few goose bumps moments on the way. 'Rotate' pairs this back to basics as a
solid beat gives way to muted keys and subtle atmospherics, throwing a deeper
shadow across the dancefloor. Less is definitely more here |

Psyk's Non Series kicks off 2019
with a new EP from Italian Luigi Tozzi. The Rome based producer is respected
for his deeply hypnotic ambient techno sound and has released his wares on
Outis Music and Hypnus before now. Opener 'Allergic' is a serene and spacious
techno roller, with glitchy hits and icy hi hats echoing out into a spacey
atmosphere. The equally smooth 'Eos' has more subtle, subtle kicks setting a
rolling groove, with warped synths and eerie little synth details providing
the cerebral hooks. 'Tender Is The Night' is another expertly designed bit of
headspace techno in which to lose yourself and 'Black Market' closes things
out in more rugged fashion, with rasping synths and corrugated drums all
sinking you into the groove. All four tracks here pair ambient headphone
beauty with tasteful deep techno dynamics |

Perc
Trax vs. PoleGroup is a collaboration between Perc's imprint Perc Trax and
PoleGroup, in which each of the labels champions their recognizable dark
techno sound, with their own clear identity and vision of the current techno
scene. The collaboration has already got off to a good start with several
successful showcases at the infamous Tresor club in Berlin, with line-ups
certainly worth mentioning that include Perc, Oscar Mulero, Reeko, Truss,
Exium, Ancient Methods and many more. Aside from the showcases, the labels
will be exchanging artists for some of their releases: the first instalment
is a four-track EP with Reeko and Christian Wunsch representing PoleGroup,
and Perc Trax label head Perc, together with Greek producer Sawf, doing the
job for Perc Trax. This EP is scheduled to be released at the beginning of
November. To celebrate the collaboration and to kick off of the 'versus'

Inigo
Kennedy has been with Token since the beginning. With a strong existing
catalog stretching back to the 90s, Kennedy produced the first Token release
from a place of confidence, with an EP of bold and dark, yet playful and
seriously storming techno tracks. Since then he has been consistent in
delivering a succession of releases that are always surprising, but instantly
recognisable as fitting with his own polished sonic identity. This impressive
body of work includes the full-length LP Vaudeville, in which he explored the
many facets of his abilities as a producer, from atmospheric heights of
ambience to murky and claustrophobic pacing grooves. Now for Token 62, his
double A-side NGC EP continues with a theme originating from the final track
on Vaudeville, delving into the aesthetics of the interstellar clouds of
Cygnus and Draco. The EP as a whole is swelling, melodic and subtle, with the
AA-side NGC6543 named after the 'Cat's Eye' nebula, taking its time with warm
crescendos and crisp splashes of percussion to activate a meridian body
response |
