2020 is set to be another great
year for James Ruskin as he opens Blueprint's release schedule with a
stunning new EP. Looking back over 2019, the year saw Ruskin release 'Reality
Broadcast Off' - his first new solo EP in 5 years which gained Resident Advisor
"Recommends" and one of Groove's "Records of The Week",
among other media accolades that summer. It was followed by the re-mastered
reissue of his seminal 'Point 2' album on Tresor as well as a new release for
them entitled 'Siklikal EP' in November, while his tight DJing skills
continued to take him around the globe reaching most of Europe as well as
further afield to the likes of Colombia and Japan. His 'Consumer Patterns EP'
due for release at the end of January once again shows James Ruskin deliver
true diligence with three cuts of inspiring techno, from the title track
which offers a duality of stormy techno meets experimental sound design, via
the more linear groove of 'Social Acceptance' to the tranquillity of
'Weakness of the System' |

We
have been working on this reissue since we began the label 10 years ago, and
finally its ready to share with the world. Velodrome need no introduction to
most, but for the uninitiated, they are the duo of Krishna Goineau
(Electronics + Vocals) and Jordi Guber (Electronics + Programming). At age
15, Jordi played guitar in Barcelona punk band Ultimo Resorte, and formed
Líneas Aereas with Frank Palomo after becoming interested in electronics.
Krishna had been performing with Chrislo Haas and Beate Bartel in Liaisons
Dangereuses. Krishna and Jordi met in 1979 through Jordi’s brother Raul, who
was in the no wave group Xeerox. The idea of collaborating came when Krishna
paid a visit to the rehearsal studio that Xeerox shared with Líneas Aereas.
After dissolving Liaisons Dangereuses in 1983, Krishna, who was impressed by
Jordi's synthesizer skills, decided they should move to Brussels. There they
formed the short lived Metropakt, releasing two songs on various compilations
in 1985. Not long after, they re-named their project Velodrome and began to
rehearse with greater discipline |

Thievery Corporation played a
historic concert in 2017 at The JFK Center for the Performing Arts in
Washington, D.C. The show saw their songs re-imagined with orchestral
arrangements from some of today's leading young classical composers. The show
is now legendary, and those fortunate to attend heard Thievery Corporation in
an entirely new way. To honour this show and inspiration it provided, Hilton
and Garza have created Symphonik - recorded with Prague’s FilmHarmonic
Orchestra along with Thievery Corporation's live band and engineering and

don Reinier Zonneveld looks set for a massive hit with his latest track,
which reworks the stunning melody made famous by PPK’s 1998 smash
‘Resurrection’. Zonneveld made his remix of the trance classic to play in his
live sets, and it proved to be so popular that he felt it simply had to be
released. He and his team set about trying to find the rightsholder of the
original melody so that they could license it. This journey led them not to
PPK, but to the original composer: the now 82 year old Russian electronic
music pioneer, Edward Artemiev. He wrote the melody for the soundtrack of a
1979 movie called ‘Siberiade’. Zonneveld wrote him a letter asking if he
could grant him permission to release his take on the melody. Listening to
Reinier’s new interpretation of ‘Resurrection’, Artemiev was immediately sold
and approved it to release. One of the earliest composers to adopt the
synthesiser, Artemiev has a pioneering legacy that lives on through this new
version that has been so skilfully crafted by Zonneveld. Moving on to the
track itself. Pummeling old skool hardcore techno kicks thump under filtered
layers of bubbling synths as an ominous tone is set early on |

On 2018’s Voids, long-time
Berghain / Panorama Bar resident Martyn returned to his deep, percussive
roots, nimbly constructing webs of rhythm, space and inventive basslines
centered around his near-death experience following a heart attack in his
Washington D.C. studio (documented in RA’s 2018 mini-documentary). Since
then, these parameters have continued to shape Martyn’s unified approach to
drum 'n' bass, gqom, post-dubstep and rhythmic offshoots. On Odds Against Us,
the producer projects the common denominator as a spirit of sampling
innovated by drum 'n' bass, but which operates independent of BPM, as shown
by the title track’s floating, Havoc-like piano riff over minimal, mutant UKG
and a snarling, amorphous bassline. From there, “B.C. 2” drives full-on at
170 – Detroit deepness through a London lens; emotion meets sci-fi. EP closer
“Rhythm Ritual” delivers on the title’s promise, with layers of interlocking
drums, melody and chopped vocals that is at once whole and broken down into
component parts |

The
fifth studio album by Shed aka Rene Pawlowitz centers thematically on the
Oderbruch region in former East Germany where the producer and DJ grew up and
continues to split his time (when not in Berlin.) Both the album and track
titles as well as the artwork by Arnim Tölke [Ectoplasma (Oderbruch)] reflect
Pawlowitz’s deeply personal associations with the borderland’s marshy
landscape, as well as enormous political and historical changes the region
underwent as the last Eastern front during World War II – and, later,
following the dissolution of the GDR. Nevertheless, Oderbruch is not a
concept album. Instead, it’s an ambivalent ode to the area in which
Pawlowitz’s family has lived for generations. It’s a musical reflection on
place and personal history: meeting up at the local gas station, a view to
the water, techno rattling the closed windows of cars peeling out toward
Berlin or the next local party, cruising along rural parkways flanked by
trees with fruit ripe for picking, past weeping willows and abandoned
factories where industry once thrived |

record label and events brand Renaissance announce the next release in their
acclaimed The ReMix Collection - a scintillating reworking of Jaydee’s 1992
R&S classic ‘Plastic Dreams’ from one of the leading names in techno:
Producer, DJ & MOOD Records label boss Nicole Moudaber. Nicole Moudaber’s
spectacular and atmospheric remix of ‘Plastic Dreams’ is already receiving
strong DJ support, not least from Carl Cox, who has been playing it out as a
highlight of his recent sets. A track that Nicole Moudaber had always wanted
to remix, when approaching such an iconic track as ‘Plastic Dreams’, she
applied her trademark tough yet melodic sound, emphasising the jazzy bass
notes and famous organ synthesiser refrain, to deliver a fresh and vibrant
reworking. On her remix, Nicole Moudaber said: “I didn’t want to lose the
essence of this ground-breaking track. I kept the balance between house and
techno and added a little touch of jazz. I was in New York when I first heard
it; I was dancing, I was flying, I was connecting with people, I was making
memories. I believe I gave it justice, I certainly gave it a lot of space and

enters a new era for 2020, featuring brand new projects from some of most
seasoned and some of the best electro producers around the globe. The label
as certainly step up a notch, but retains its elements of cosmic drive. This
release is a various artists 4 tack EP destined to blow your mind. Paul Rip
conceived Specimen Records 2012, devising projects under the production name
of Eugene Black / Black Art Circus. Prior to this Paul co-owned and managed
Plink Plonk Records during the ’90s after creating the seminal acid house
warehouse party in Londons @Clink St (RIP (Revolution In Progress), which
continued in and out of various warehouse venues under different projects
until 92’. Then started working with the likes of Kenny Larkin, Stacey
Pullen, Mark Gage, Ian Pooley, Mark Broom Derrick carter over the span of
Plink Plonk. During 2000 Paul embarked on a more academic level, curating and
studying Film and Sonic Arts until 2010. After a solid knowledge of
Electronic and Electroacoustic composition and its relevant aural history, he
decided to take a new approach by forming paste knowledge of operating a
label into Specimen |

preps new compilation, Fuga, featuring Nastia Reigel, Dold, Mark Broom &
more. The eight track release introduces a brace of new and breaking names to
the Belgian outlet, and zeroes in with particular clarity on the label's by
now keenly defined aesthetic - classic, uptempo Techno from the purist end of
the genre. As ever with Token releases - the devil remains distinctly in the
detail. Each recording, hand-picked and road tested in a club environment -
some for over a year, offers up its own unique and nuanced take on

Rising Russian star Nastia Reigel continues a rich vein of form on opener,
Pray. In equal parts hypnotic & hard-hitting, the versatile work sets the
tone for Fuga, which continues with tripping contributions from Border One
& Stefan Vincent - the latter of whom turns in a compilation highlight in

returns to Token. The Danish producer debuted on the label in 2018 with Totem
- an EP of detailed, low-slung productions that highlighted the artist's keen
ear for moody, undulating sequences & slick production techniques. On his
return, Banke ups the ante - increasing the tempo moderately and where
previous work focused on inviting dance-floor hypnosis, Facelift makes classy
peak time propulsion the order of the day. The work maintains many of the
sonic motifs associated with the Dane's production: firm, buoyant low end
drives the music, working neatly in tandem with reduced percussive accents
and more exposed, crystalline sequences that lift the recordings and offer
new, expressive tones to the producer's growing discography. In many ways lead
track Facelift does what it says on the tin, and offers up the most intense
experience on the EP. In equal parts as dense and moody as it is exhilarating
and uplifting, the track is a fine example of how careful use of limited
sonic components can generate extraordinarily affecting results in the right

A
collaboration between Aphex Twin (Richard D. James) and µ-Ziq (Mike
Paradinas), Mike & Rich - 'Expert Knob Twiddlers' was made back in 1994.
Richard edited the tracks into shape later in 1996 with his new Apple Mac
computer and it was released later that year on Rephlex, the label he
co-owned and which released the first two albums by µ-Ziq. This new reissued
version has been carefully cleaned up, re-edited and remastered from the
original DAT tapes, put into a more fitting order and, more excitingly, seven
new bonus tracks and alternative versions have also been added. The album was
recorded over a few days during the 1994 World Cup, back when Richard lived
in a big shared flat in Stoke Newington. Richard had tried to collaborate
with a few other likeminded artists but something clicked when Mike and Rich
worked together and the sessions have a unique feel, playful and at times
actually drunk. These are fun experiments in the spirit of lighthearted moog
pop and ripe 70s British TV themes, standing out from the po-faced
electronica of the time with a garish glee. The record was made on what is
now seen as pretty primitive gear - an Atari, Roland MKS-80, Memorymoog,
Roland R8 and a handful of samples on a Casio FZ-10M - but it's to their
credit that it resonates well with the hardware workouts coming out today.
There's a broadminded but sloppy funk to the record, even whistling, singing
and harpsichord in 'Reg' and wonky beat pile-ons in 'Jelly Fish'. There's
latin piano and wheezy drunken techno in 'Vodka', or the sleepy spaced out
ambience of 'Bu Bu Bu Ba' with its barely contained laughter which seems to
reflect the absurdity. The new versions and bonus tracks are an absolute
delight - from a trancier version of 'Vodka' to the wonky bounce of
'Portamento Gosh', The 3/4 dub of 'Waltz,' the banging door bass of' Brivert
and Muonds', the creepy seasick atmosphere of 'Clissold Bathroom' and
finishing with the strangely graceful and serious 'Organ Plodder'. A generous
