Celebrating
40th anniversary of Yves Deruyter's musical career with this 10 x 12"
Vinyl Box Set. Including tracks from F.U.S.E. vs LFO, Tronikhouse, Robert
Armani, L.S.G., Edge Of Motion, Plastikman, The Prodigy, Ecstasy Club, and
the master himselfYves Deruyter. Yves Deruyter - 40 Years at the Pinnacle of
the Night. Forty years. A rollercoaster of a musical career, meandering
through five decades, leaving timeless marks on the collective dancefloor
memory. Yves Deruyter is the exception that proves the rule. An icon behind
the decks, celebrated far beyond national borders for his legendary sets,
impeccable musical choices, and the anthems released under his name. The
result of collective effort, where Yves, with his vision and unique touch,
consistently left his mark-transforming good tracks into inescapable bombs
that still resonate through time. If you've spent forty years living to the
pulse of music, the night is in your DNA. Yves Deruyter, a DJ to the core-the
real deal. The man who bent the night to his will, dragging weekend vibes
into the workweek like a warrior, a true master behind the turntables who
made his people dance. His beats: the oxygen that generations lived on. Yves
sharpened his musical weapons in the early '90s within the iconic afterparty
scene of Barocci and The Globe-places that became sanctuaries in Belgium's
endless night. Here, die-hard dancefloor warriors, cutting-edge music lovers,
and night owls from the four corners of the globe gathered. They willingly
followed Yves' masterful mixing and his razor-sharp set construction. Clubs
with a more conventional timeframe were the next step, with the iconic
Cherrymoon as his home base for years-alongside endless guest DJ spots and
global gigs. From there, the underground pulsed through Yves' hands and
crates, reaching ever-larger crowds-without ever compromising for commercial
or crossover sounds. Yves stayed true to his choices, lifting his audience to
euphoric heights like a craftsman, armed with his hits, hidden gems, and
freshly unearthed nuggets. From the pounding energy of Rave City to the
flippy, epic flashes of Calling Earth-tracks that not only captured the
spirit of the times but conquered dancefloors worldwide. This isn't just
music; it's a time capsule-a connection between generations and a reminder of
the energy from a golden era. With musical partners like Roel Butzen,
Frederico Santini, M.I.K.E. Push, and more recently, Insider, Yves forged a
sound that etched its place into rave and dance history. From The Rebel to
The House of House, parts of Yves' musical taste have become immortal pillars
of dance music heritage. In the early rave days, he topped Belgium's DJ
rankings year after year, elevating every club he played to the highest
echelons of popularity. The same held true for the records where his name
appeared like a badge of honor. From The Globe to the globe itself-it seemed
almost written in the stars. Yves, thestar DJ, became one of the instigators
of the electronic music storm that put Belgium on the global map-a storm that
never subsided. Festivals like Love Parade, Mayday, I Love Techno, Nature
One, and Tomorrowland saw Yves as a trusted force, effortlessly commanding
crowds and turning dancefloors inside out. Forty years later, that storm
still ignites partygoers, vibrates through dancefloors, and keeps entire
generations moving. Even today, Yves still holds a steady residency with Yves
Deruyter and Friends at Club Moustache, where his concept always sells out.
Here, both fresh talent and seasoned DJs deliver a killer blend of modern
electronic dance music and timeless classics, creating an atmosphere that
hooks the crowd every single time. Because partying doesn't need an excuse.
But forty years? That deserves the spotlight-not as a mere milestone, but as
a showcase of timelessness. Music mutates, reinvents itself for new
generations, yet retains the same impact as that very first time. Yves proves
that forty is just a number, and relevance isn't about trends-it's about
vision, energy, and an unmistakable touch. His sets? Indestructible. His
sound? A heartbeat echoing through time. And Yves? He doesn't live in the
past. Today, Yves distills those four decades into a compilation capturing
the essence of his career. Belgian beats, interpreted and refined into a
sound that powered raves around the world. Ten vinyls featuring not just a
fiercely curated selection that contextualizes the magic of his early days,
but also new versions of three unbeatable anthems-potent hits designed to turn
dancefloors upside down in wonder, without losing a shred of their soul. Yves
remains a beacon in the night, a searchlight for that one perfect beat-always
relevant, always chasing that magical moment. Yves Deruyter-a name spoken in
the same breath as the greats of the scene. A ten-vinyl compilation is more
than a celebration; it's a well-earned trophy. As unique, indestructible, and
uncompromising as the man himself |

30D Records celebrates a
decade of modern sonic exploration. Since its inception at the end of 2014,
and initially taking inspiration from 40's & 50's science fiction
culture, the label has been offering to listeners a vast array of genres,
being experimental, creative and forward-thinking dance music its main
mission. For its 10th anniversary, the cutting-edge electronic music label
very proudly announces five distinctive releases, each one across their
respective sub-labels. Close Encounters, 30D Records sub label, keeps its
initial main purpose of delivering four tracks from four different producers
under the same musical concept. And exceptionally for this 10th anniversary,
and for the very first time, also under the same musical style. Julia Govor,
Amotik, Yogg and Electric Indigo, all of them close friends to the label,
dive into the broken-beat territory, offering their particular vision of the
genre, as personal and varied as interesting, and not only dance floor
focused |

Daniel Monaco and John Noseda join forces for Alektra, a new
project born out of a deep love for Hi-NRG and raw 808 sounds. Renowned for
their dj sets, trips that delve into tropical obscurities, Chicago jack and
Rimini romances, the pair have channelled a unique blend of untamed house and
shimmering italo melodies into pure dancefloor euphoria. Their debut release,
“Shake Your Body,” drops on Bordello A Parigi. Neon synthwork is punctured by
clean punches of percussion, scaling melodies set firmly in the golden
analogue era. Key stabs drive the track with Only Bee’s honeyed lyrics
pushing the energy levels higher. In true 1980s anthem form, the flip is
dedicated to the instrumental with the synthesizers and their hypnotic
melodies taking centre stage: Alektra’s machines smouldering with fiery
intensity. That same intensity closes, Only Bee’s mellifluous vocals given
the limelight for the acapella close. Dancefloor definitions redefined.
Welcome to Alektra |

Two
foundational releases from Toronto's Strobe Records get a well-deserved
reissue on the Clone Classic Cuts series, spotlighting a pivotal moment in
North American dance music. While often overshadowed by the Detroit and New
York scenes, Toronto's underground in the early '90s was brewing its own
potent blend of house and techno - and these tracks are prime examples of
that cross-border synergy. The Hayden Andre Project's contributions sit at
the perfect intersection of tribal house rhythms and the emotive,
machine-driven pulse of early Detroit techno. There's a raw elegance here - a
sense of deep groove layered with just the right amount of percussive
tension. It's no surprise that these tracks became staples in the crates of
DJs both then and now. The production feels timeless, with hypnotic
arrangements that still command the floor over three decades later. On the
flip, Kingdom Come, another alias of Ron Allen, delivers lush, blissed-out
house music that channels the soulful energy of New York's golden era while
adding a uniquely Canadian sensibility. Allen's piano work, layered with warm
pads and swinging drums, gives these tracks an unmistakable vibe - equal
parts deep house ecstasy and garage swagger. It's the sound of 3 a.m.
euphoria, of packed dance floors and emotional peaks. This reissue not only
shines a light on the underrated Toronto scene but also remind us just how
global and interconnected house music was becoming in the early '90s. For
both collectors and newcomers, these are essential cuts - testaments to a
moment when boundaries between cities and styles were blurred in the name of
dance |

Guerineau and Soulwax via their DEEWEE label. An all-out onslaught of raw
circuitry and electronics, “Contrarian” might just be one of Davidson’s
finest club cuts to date. Earlier in the year, Davidson debuted on the
legendary DEEWEE imprint with her single Y.A.A.M. (Your Asses Are Mine),

An
EP of mind-massaging techno-trance futurism from Wata Igarashi. Capturing the
energy of the UFO stages which indulge Dekmantel Festival's darker,
experimental tastes, Igarashi turns out four shapely serotonin injections in
his inimitable style. There's an immediacy to the Kaleidoscopic 12'' which
rushes into earshot the moment the EP fires up with the insistent acid throb
of the title track. The eternal undulation of a 303 provides the bedrock for
Igarashi's fluttering brushstrokes, while a tough yet supple beat charges
underneath. Cascading arps are a core element of the richly melodic sound on
this release, reaching measured peaks of ecstasy on 'The Sailage' without
ever taking a cheap shortcut. Understated, emotionally-charged eloquence
spills out of every sequence. There's a softer, blurry-eyed sentiment to the
synth work on 'Steaming', while 'Interweave' tempers classic acid techno
tropes with gaseous atmospherics. There are plenty of crisp edges in his
tracks for the dancers to latch onto, but Igarashi specialises in a fluid
motion that encourages less thinking and more feeling—a lysergic techno flow
to truly melt into. Dekmantel continues to shape out the return of its UFO
series with this new wave of 12''s... keep watching |

In
2016, Cliche Morph offered the aquatic textures of Liquid Materia. Hidden
Madness is the return and a new beginning. Four tracks of intense
introspection mark a collaboration and a founding, Deep Sound Channel and
Postdynamic. Atmospheric and immersive, from the needle drop the listener is
immediately drawn into the subterranean chambers of this cerebral piece. A
stark beat is the guide rope, a snare that echoes and ricochets into the
cavernous expanse of cold currents and all too real phantoms. Feeding off
that palpable paranoia, Psyk pours a thick resonating syrup over the original
before pulling the switch. Darkness descends, distortion and reverb dominate
with a steady kick delivering some form of solid ground. Respite? No hope.
Pound and thud tell the arrival of "Exorcist". Industrial groans
and a clanking larynx are cut through by haunting strings, a meagre echo of
humanity in this absorbing and unsettling track. Blazej Malinowski closes.
Drum patterns are amplified and concentrated in the producer's purge of
"Exorcist", hi-hats hissing as the spectral refrains of the
original shift in shape and form. A 12" that plumbs the physical and the
psychological depths of sound |

Claudio
PRC’s fifth album, Self Surrender, unfolds as a reflective journey of
self-acceptance, a story embracing reality in its purest and most unfiltered
form. Released via Delsin Records, this marks his first full-length album on
the label, following the EP’s Rites of Passage (2021), Challenger Deep (2022)
and Golden Scales (2024). The album explores different and more leftfield
sonic corners, while remaining true to Claudio’s cavernous, deep, and
spiritual essence. It’s a journey through different styles, with echoes of
the past and contemporary influences merging. Self Surrender begins with
ambient and dub echoes, moving through dark, minimal rhythms and deep techno.
It blends techno and house elements, exploring themes of sin and redemption
with cutting synths and tight grooves. This first half of the longplayer
closes introspectively with a reflective ambient piece. In the second part,
the sound shifts to more energetic techno. It’s driven by heavy kicks and
dreamy atmospheres, with acid-laden textures and haunting strings. To
conclude, Self Surrender closes with an ethereal track, fully embodying the
theme of surrender and acceptance. Born in Sardinia and now based in Berlin,
Claudio PRC has been a key figure in the deep techno scene since 2006. His
music is deeply rooted in a philosophical approach, drawing from Detroit
techno, electroacoustics, and his academic background in Music and New
Technologies. Over the years, he has released on labels such as Prologue
Music, Semantica Records, while also establishing his label 012 as a platform
for art and sound research |

Following the success of the 8th release on his limited edition

BLACK LP : Double Black 140 grs Vinyl , Gatefold sleeve, printed inners,

for this landmark release, and is the first time the album has been pressed
on vinyl for over ten year. Originally released in 1993, 'The Brown Album'
marked a significant evolution in Orbital's sound - and was met with
widespread critical acclaim. NME awarded it 9/10 in their review, and it was
chosen as one of Mixmag's best albums of all time. Standout track,
"Halcyon + On + On", became an instant classic, known for its
ethereal atmosphere and haunting vocal sample from Opus III's It's a Fine
Day. The track's dreamy progression and uplifting yet melancholic tone made
it a staple in film soundtracks and DJ sets, embodying the emotional depth
electronic music could achieve. "Impact (The Earth Is Burning)" is
another defining moment, an evolving journey of layered breakbeats and
dynamic synth arrangements, reflecting the duo's ability to create both
club-ready and introspective music. Meanwhile, "Lush 3-1" and
"Lush 3-2" demonstrate Orbital's knack for crafting intricate,
evolving grooves, balancing pulsating rhythms with melodic flourishes that
keep the listener engaged. 'The Brown Album' 2LP reissue has been cut at half
speed, to ensure maximum audio fidelity for this landmark release, and is the
first time the album has been pressed on vinyl for over ten year |

Techno
legend Cari Lekebusch debuts on Mind Medizin with an 8-track double pack of
underground Techno. Stockholm-based sound architect Cari Lekebusch has helped
to shape the sound of the underground over the last two-plus decades. He has
long been at the heart of his native scene alongside peers such as Adam Beyer
and Joel Mull and heads up his own H. Productions label while also serving up
his timeless sounds on cultured outlets such as Drumcode and Planet Rhythm.
Opener 'Mind and Matter' opens with quick, compelling drum programming and
trippy synth details peeling off thebeats. Muttered vocals bring a dark
intensity as the percussion also adds layers of tension. The fantastic
'Freakout' isanother classically inclined and linear techno banger with thudding
kicks and futuristic synth lines weaving in and outof the beats. There is no
let-up in the pressure with the excellent 'Ninguno es Uno' keeping it deep,
driving and late night, this time with squelchy acid lines adding character.
'Heritage' shuts down with a hypnotic blend of shimmering cosmic synth lines
and pulsing deep techno drums that keep the mind and body fully locked in.
This second half kicks off with 'Cause and Effect', a bustling blend of
scuffed-up kicks and snares, glitchy hits and jangling synth sounds that
bring great looseness to the driving grooves. The funky 'Handkante' delivers
flailing percussive patterns and wisps of synths that spit out of the mix
next to a drunken synth lead. 'Strulgubbe' keeps the pressure on with more muscular
drums, this time underpinned by darker bass and unsettling synth twangs. The
fantastic closer 'Tuli Taivaalla' offers up a serene sound that is backed
with sustained chords and marbled with edgy vocals |

Finally after all those years, Dutch producer Peter Aarsman

Originally released on Deviate in 1995, this 13 minute techno trip caused
mayhem on dancefloors across the world. Peter's love for early Detroit techno
in can be heard in the beautiful Res*lute. Warm strings, deep basslines and a
repetitive synth theme provide for a stunning track which was used by Carl
Craig in his selection for the influential DJ Kicks series. Res*lute also
comes in a rawer house remix by Frame Of Mind label head Gerd |

Little Richard was the stage name adopted by Richard Wayne
Penniman, a gospel and rhythm & blues singer who was also a rocker, a
homosexual, a Seventh Day Adventist, and an extraordinary personality. He
invented one of the most emblematic battle cries to ever rouse a generation
of young people confronting a much-needed new world... and rock 'n' roll. The
cry was a lyric from Tutti Frutti that went "A Wop Bop A Loo Bop A Lop
Bam Boom!" Just one look at this album's titles tells you all you need
to know about the importance that this man represents in Fifties' music
history. In addition to Tutti Frutti you can find Long Tall Sally, Lucille
and Good Golly Miss Molly, to name only a few. Nobody can imagine what Rock
'n' Roll would have been without Little Richard. He was a mighty inspiration
for such major artists as Prince and The Rolling Stones, and he fully
deserves his place at the top of the pyramid that today we call "the
influencers" |

Art is a term that's often associated with Robert Hood's work
and the next vinyl release on M-Plant comprises his recent digital releases -
the March single "Art Form" and April's double-header "Art
Class / Art School" to create the "Art Project EP". The acidic
"Art Form" is Hood's first Techno release since 2024's "Alpha
Key EP". The Minimal Techno originator continues to show off his prowess
with "Art Class" which stays on the Acid path we hear on "Art
Form" but delves even deeper. Meanwhile, "Art School" on the
B-side brings sci-fi sounds and an atmospheric punch. Robert Hood has said of
his M-Plant label: "M-Plant is what I've always wanted to hear: the
basic stripped down, raw sound. Just drums, basslines and funky grooves and
only what's essential. Only what is essential to make people move. I started
to look at it as a science, the art of making people move their butts,
speaking to their heart, mind and soul. It's a heart-felt rhythmic techno
sound. M-Plant is just M. minimal." |

On
December 6, 2024, Randomer will return with a new EP titled MTY-012:
Everything Happens for No Reason, released via Anetha’s label, Mama Told Ya.
After a reflective hiatus, the UK prodigy is highly anticipated and ready to
deliver meaningful music. The EP features five emotionally charged
tracks—four produced by Randomer and one co-produced by Randomer and Anetha.
Presented on a single vinyl, the release conveys a deeper message: life’s
unpredictability can be embraced, reminding us that we can find our way even
in chaos and randomness. Torn between the meaningful and the meaningless,
Randomer channeled his time into crafting music shaped by his extensive study
of melodies, subconsciously seeking to bring harmony to the world. The result
is a cathartic journey across five tracks, each evoking a broad spectrum of
emotions and inviting listeners to explore the depth of their feelings.
Drawing from the music that deeply influenced him, Randomer traverses various
genres and moods, seamlessly blending techno, trance, techstep, and sacred
choral music in a perpetual act of personal reinvention. Let the choir sing I
Saw the World Melt (A1) right before my eyes, and let the people chant my
melancholic melody. Nervous Breakdown. Lost in the riffs with dis ting from
London, DHM Jam (A2) fuels me with adrenaline, I’m flying through memories,
urged to move on. Yet, I’m still trapped : the clock shows Home Invasion
(A3)—better start running. We will survive. But where’s my harmony? I Can’t
Believe (B1) it. Why me? Why us? In this trance state of mind, I have so many
questions, but those voices on the other side won’t answer. We’re doomed
anyway, so why not plug in like the Two Perfect Machines (B2) we are, until
the end. For this new EP, Australian visual artist Nic Hamilton has been
commissioned to create a poignant artwork alongside two melting teasers for
MTY-012. As always, the design is expertly crafted by Diplomatie Studio,
while the mastering is entrusted to Six Bit Deep, ensuring a polished and
immersive listening experience |

In
celebration of its 30th anniversary, Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, has
remastered his groundbreaking second album, Musik, from the original tapes
for a new limited bio-vinyl edition. The record was first released in
November 1994 through NovaMute and Plus 8, following the debut Plastikman
album, Sheet One (1993). A masterclass in minimal techno, Musik quickly
propelled Hawtin to new levels of success. The release followed Plastikman's
first-ever live performance in a black vinyl-encased room at a semi-derelict
Packard Plant in Detroit, where Hawtin was central to the burgeoning
underground scene. Before the full album hit the shelves, the track
'Plastique' (which was later described by Q as "...the flipside to
Hawtin's early singles, all ticking percussion, feline acid tweaks, and
cushioned sub-bass") set the stage for a more dance floor-friendly
album, albeit one with an unsettling and sinister side. The album, described
by The Guardian as "music as you've never heard it before" and by
The Wire, who made it one of their Albums of the Year, as "... a
masterpiece", defined a moment in techno that still echoes today. Now, 30 years later, the album has been
remastered from the original tapes, reminding us why Plastikman is a name
that still resonates and that the album's intensity - on and off the dance
floor - has lost none of its potency in the intervening years. Available on
limited edition double bio-vinyl from Mute and NovaMute |

The
West is crumbling. It's values, once unshakable, have buckled under the
weight of a world spinning ever faster and growing ever more hollow. Revival
Of The West, Blue Gene's debut album, is his exploration of this collective
malaise-a call to rediscover meaning in a world that has grown estranged from
itself. On his debut, Blue Gene gives voice to the contemporary themes that
keep him awake at night: consumer hysteria, the numbing grip of social media,
the solace found at the bottom of a bottle, the crushing weight of taxes, and
the paralyzing complexity of a world where humanity seems to have been
reduced to a cog in the machine. Yet, despite all the despair, his songs
always carry a spark of hope: after the fall, you can rise again. These
stories are wrapped in the sound of classic country music-music about life as
it truly is: bent, battered, but full of resilience. This is country as it
was meant to be: raw and honest. Not perfect-and it doesn't need to be. The
beauty lies in the off-note, the stumbling rhythm, the simplicity of three
chords that tell you everything you need to know. Blue Gene's country music
is the song of a man wrestling with life and himself, infused with humor,
sharp lyrics, and anecdotal musical moments. Because sometimes, we just need
to remember to laugh. In short, it's a mirror showing us our demons, but also
a reassurance that teaches us how to live with them. And yet, the question
lingers: who is Blue Gene? Is he just a country singer putting strugglesto
music? Or is he a modern Robin Hood in cowboy boots, a voice trying to do
justice to lost ideals? Blue Gene exists in the grey area where music and
meaning meet-and it's precisely there that he finds his strength. Revival Of
The West is no nostalgic longing for a bygone era. It's an invitation to
reinvent the values we've lost. It urges us to return to a place where life
can be honest again-where music doesn't aim to please, but to say something
real. Because sometimes, a song is all it takes to make sense of the world
around us. Blue Gene (vocals & rhythm guitar) is joined on Revival Of The
West by his loyal band of outlaws: Nathan Ysebaert (lead guitar &
vocals), Tijl Van de Casteele (drums & percussion), and Tom Vienne (bass
guitar, saxophone & vocals). The record is further enriched by guest
appearances from Bart Vervaeck (pedal steel), Nils De Caster (violin,
mandolin), Mathijs Steels (piano), Ciska Dhaenens (vocals), and Harry
Descamps (vocals). Recorded in spring 2023 by Michiel Renson, mixed by Jan
Chantrain and Michiel Renson, and mastered by Uwe Teichert. Produced,
composed, and written by Timotheus De Beir. Revival Of The West will be
released on January 24, 2025, via On The Level |

Three acid techno cuts to suit the situation, especially if the
situation is a blacked out warehouse with a strobe where only the pulse of
the sound system matters. The A side: "Tech 97" weaves undulating
pads through sustained tension, shadowing the acid riff until it breaks into
a hypnotic workout where calculated moments of release command the floor. The
B1 "Manic Mix" pushes boundaries with an urgent buildup of the
303 and metallic high hats,
culminating in pure dancefloor abandon - snares and claps cutting through the
darkness. The B2 "Calm Mix" explores deeper territory with
dubbed-out vibes. The acid riff maintains its spectral presence against the
rhythm, while ethereal chords spiral outward creating an almost nautical
motion beneath the surface |

As
one of the most prolific and influential producers of the last thirty years,
The Hacker’s imprint on electronic music already spans genres, eras and scene
revolutions. And still, there’s more. In spirited collaboration with friend
and fellow French journeyman Endrik Schroeder, the first release from The
Hacker & Endrik Schroeder Project eschews EBM excess or gritty electro.
Instead, two introductory tracks slip into the continuum of evergreen
underground techno, influenced in equal part by the digital soul of Detroit,
and the futurist experimentations of Sheffield. Quickly escalating from a
classic beat to a hoover-rave ascent determined to fill the vacuum of any
warehouse, ‘Puissance’ is an unapologetic anthem that doubles as an elegant
and impactful introduction to the Hacker & Schroeder partnership.
Hypnotising dancers with ever-more forceful acid oscillations, the pair
masterfully stave off the pressure with a wide-eyed organ riff, played live
and direct from rave heaven. ‘The Voyagers’ contrasts with a cosmic groove,
certain to satisfy heads-down bleep purists, while dedicating time and space
for the charisma and quirks of this machine-led dance to shine through,
including emotional pads and whispering voices, par excellence |

Another early standout release from Speedy J's vast catalog. The
follow up for the 'Rise EP', also originally released on Plus 8 Records in
1991, with the apt named title track 'Evolution'. Jochem's style of producing
music was evolving while still influenced by all the music arriving in the
Rotterdam import record stores. The US, UK or Belgium didn't matter, good
music was the key... but this was definitely one of the pre-cursors to his
first albums |

The Specials shook up the British
music scene in 1979 when their blend of English punk and Jamaican ska took
the nation by storm. The Dawning of a New Era collects the legendary 1978
demos, cut when the group was known as The Automatics, with Silverton Hutchinson
on drums and before the arrival of Neville Staples. Favourites such as 'Night
Klub,' 'Too Much Too Young,' 'Stupid Marriage,' 'Concrete Jungle,' 'Blank
Expression' and the title track are here presented in rougher, spikier
arrangements, much of the work-in-progress referencing the reggae stylings of
the late 1960s and early 70s. A must for all Specials fans! |

Mark
Broom drops the fifth volume of ‘Mutated Battle Breaks’. Mark Broom’s
‘Mutated Battle Breaks’ series on Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects dates
back to 2021; since then, he’s released four volumes, with its next chapter
arriving to mark the label’s first EP of 2025. Each ‘Mutated Battle Breaks’
EP consists of an extended runtime of eight tracks, supported by the likes of
Robert Hood, Ben UFO, I.Jordan, Pariah, Carista, Mumdance, Lauren Flax, and
many more. Across volume 5 of ‘Mutated Battle Breaks’, Mark Broom primes
eight more dancefloor-ready cuts complete with rugged grooves, punchy stabs,
and wild Techno sequences. From the opener ‘Romance’ and its frenzied
arrangement, through to the rolling bleep-infused ‘Ranger’, Broom once again
shows his mastery of rhythm and the breath of his Techno productions - one
thing is certain: he continues to be one of the most significant producers in
Techno after more than three decades. Techno, House, and rave, Mark Broom is
one of UK dance music’s legends and has a myriad of production credits to his
name dating back to 1989. Warp, M-Plant, Hardgroove, and his own Pure Plastic
and Beardman imprints are just a handful of the labels he’s worked with,
while studio collaborations with the likes of Baby Ford and James Ruskin have
cemented his reputation as a storied and vital part of electronic music
culture |

x 140g black vinyl, full printed special color sleeve (gold & blue
pantone), download card included. Two years after releasing the acclaimed
Crash Recoil, Anthony Child aka Surgeon returns to Tresor with new LP,
Shell~Wave. Retaining the minimal equipment list and
studio-version-of-live-show-sets approach of the previous album in order to
focus on the work itself, Shell~Wave is a deeply personal document of both
where Surgeon is and has been, converging three decades of experience with a
continued curiosity in the untested. “To make this project, I had to dig
really deep in terms of what my relationship was to techno; I’ve been
involved with it for a really long time and there’s a lot about it I feel
dislocated from, so I had to really think hard about what techno is to me. I
often get asked “what is techno to you?” but I can’t answer that with words;
this album is the answer.” From the complex, twisting track Infinite Eye to
the caustic Soul Fire, the eight tracks that make up the body of the album
are single-take explorations of the vast, hard yet minimal techno Child is
synonymous with. Neatly dividing the record in two, the emotional centre of
the record comes in the form of Dying, a vibrating, beatless piece that with
a mantra-like vocal loop steeped in reverberating effects. Further echoes of
dub production appear throughout the record as tracks like Divine Shadow, and
Empty Cloud have an almost ever-present mist of reverberation, driven by the
appearance of a new delay unit in the equipment list; while much of the
philosophy of Crash Recoil’s creation is present, the process and the
instruments have changed as Child again switches up his approach to studio
work. This insistence on trying novel techniques doesn’t preclude returning
to old ones, as this use of modern digital machines with live, hands-on takes
that are as inspired by 60s producer Joe Meek and 70s reggae as they are by
this year’s synthesiser expos. “For me, it’s an interesting experience
returning to old techniques again after 30 years. [I’m] always exploring and
finding myself back at the beginning. Connecting the present with the past.”
This philosophy of ‘time travel’ is inherent to the music itself as the
synchronised loops repeat while the delay and effects branch out, forming
unique eddies; distinct quantum moments within the circular whole; the future
leaking through the spaces between the sounds. All of the concepts on the
album are perfectly communicated through the painting by Taiwanese artist
Jazz Szu-Ying Chen which suggests the movement of water, sound waves, and the
chitinous shells of sea creatures |
