"A:LIVE"
is the first Double X album by Alexander Kowalski and Torsten Litschko (one
half of Sender Berlin / Tresor Records / unGleich). The project Double X
started when Alexander Kowalski and Torsten Litschko were invited to play a
live gig at the Tresor Club for the Love Parade 1999 and somehow decided to
play together. Therefor they needed to create a new project and immediately
recorded more than 10 tracks in various spontaneous jam-sessions... Double X
was born. The Live Set at the Tresor Club was more than exciting for the
crowd as well as the producers and so the first records were released: a
first 12inch as the start of the Berlin based unGleich label founded by the
Double X members themselves, followed by the double 12inch "unGleich in
Exile" (ka40) as their Kanzleramt debut, another limited orange vinyl EP
on unGleich and finally the full length cd "Strain one's ears" with
all previous vinyl recordings again on unGleich. A big wave of positive
feedback followed and made the new project a great success from the very
beginning on |

Kanzleramt
welcomes one of the best UK producers with an excellent new 3 track EP: Ian
O'Brien! Thrity year-old Ian O'Brien was born in Essex and grew up listening
to the sounds of his parents' favourite music, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder.
As a teenager he became seriously interested in music when a friend
introduced him to the sound of fusion group Weather Report and pianist Herbie
Hancock. He took up the guitar and went to college in his home town of
Southend to study music. Around this time he became interested in electronic
music after accidentally discovering the music of Underground Resistance,
Derrick May and the other Detroit techno artists of the time. Inspired by the
Detroit sounds, Ian took up production and released his debut EP as "Memory
Tree" in 1995 (co-produced with Asad Rizvi), receiving playlist support
from Kiss FM's Colin Dale and Colin Faver. This was followed by a string of
recordings for UK underground labels including Ferox, 4th Wave and Pacific
records. His debut album "DESERT SCORES" was released in February
1997 on Ferox records, to great critical acclaim |

It
happened in 2004 that Heiko Laux met Steve Rachmad after a gig on the way to
the airport where they listened to some fresh demo material. There it was!
Between all the others was Joel Mull's track "Reminder"! Heiko fell
in love with this song from the first beat on and asked Joel directly after
more tracks for a 12". Both weren't happy with the combination of
tracks... nothing could satisfy. Time has passed and after nearly one year
the track resurfaced on Heiko's desk because Joel forwarded him some sounds.
Heiko was reminded and both agreed that this awesome spheric and melodic club
track has to be released now! They decided that some Kanzleramt artists
should lend a hand on "Reminder" and contribute some remixes for a
12inch. "Reminder" comes as a complete track in itself. So it
wasn't easy for each remixer to find a way and give this song his own note.
Now, after many remixes within the last 6 months, Joel Mull's
"Reminder" is successfully rayconstructed by Ray Kajioka, molten by
OSF (Offshore Funk) and dubbed by HLX |

II" by Peter Kruder and Ian O'Brien! Pete Kruder of G-Stone opens the
second volume of Crome Remixes with two versions of "Offshoot" on
the A-side. Peter put together an Offshore Funk-Remix-Band with his Vienna
buddies for "Offshoot - Discoabstechermix", creating a combo techno
fusion with drums by Chris "Promskibeat" Prommer, keys by Roberto
di Gioia and bass by Bobby Pleasure. The second "Offshoot - Darf's ein
bisschen Darker sein Mix" comes as Peter s electronic grooving solo
re-mix. The B-side contains the "Mega bit me - Ian O'Brien Mix"
from the Offshore Funk album "Crome". Where other re-mixers gave up
trying, only Ian (and the Spirit Catcher, with their "Way Of Life
Mix") had the "je ne sais qoui" to handle and work with the
complex harmonics of "Mega bit me" |

Haven is kicking off 2020 with a
boom with a new EP of politically pessimistic dance-floor-ready weapons from
label boss Keepsakes. Following on from his exploration of chunky slow
rippers on 2019's "Modern Anxious Vernacular", this next edition in
the Haven mastermind's discography puts greater emphasis on rhythmic groove
for the dancers among us. The record starts with "And So The Feckless
Fall" on the A1, featuring shuffling drum rhythms and ethereal vocal
work, descending in to a menacing, swung synth-line for maximum club effect.
This is followed by "Blue Boy Fucks It All" on the A2. Reminiscent
of the slo-mo bangers of Keepsakes' last EP, this crawler of a track is
initially propelled by its moody synth melody and booming drums, with a
mid-track switch up putting melancholic pad chords front-and-centre. The flip
side begins with "Ignorant Irony" - a certified floor smasher
prioritizing groove with it's swinging drum rhythms, cheeky vocal samples and
sinister synth sounds |

Plex hasn't dropped an original on Drumcode since 2014 when the hugely
popular 'Conjure Infinity' EP was released. Despite this, he's been a
significant feature at DC events over the last year. Sharing a tight
relationship with Adam Beyer, the pair have laid down memorable B2B sets at
Warehouse Project, Ultra Music Festival, and the Resistance opening party in
Ibiza this summer, thus cementing their tight musical bond. Produced in the
early part of 2019, 'Destination Mars' marks his terrific return to Beyer's
iconic label. The track is trademark Maceo, a master class in tension and
release, characterized by a slick low-end bass hum that gathers steam as
crunchy drum lines and breathy vocal accents combine effectively with the
main vocal lead, a contribution from Josh Wink, no less. No surprise, it went
down a storm when debuted at Time Warp's mammoth 25th-anniversary party in
April and has been highlighting the Ellum boss' sets ever since. The
ever-reliable Raxon is charged with remix duties, stripping back the track's
engine to focus on a central melody, chugging bassline, and hypnotizing vocal

Trinidad born bandleader Edmundo
Ros was a key figure in Latin music in post war Britain. Immigrated to London
in the late Thirties he is the one who effectively introduced the Rhumba and
Samba to the U.K. A charming man and multi talented musician, Ros became a

Composer
Tashi Wada has performed for years with his father Yoshi Wada—artist,
composer, and early member of the Fluxus movement. However, they have rarely
appeared together in studio settings. Nue, the fourteenth entry in RVNG
Intl.'s intergenerational FRKWYS series, finally brings Tashi and Yoshi,
along with an eclectic group of close friends and extended family, together
on tape. Nue draws on aspects of Tashi's background for his widest vision to
date—among them the minimalist bagpipe music of Yoshi, who co-composed three
of the tracks, the psychoacoustic and perceptual explorations of his mentor,
composer James Tenney, and reimagined forms of ancient and devotional music.
The album, however, is not a tribute to the past or a recapitulation of familiar
sounds. Instead, Nue is an intertwining of people and ideas as a means of
growing, of looking inward to move outward, and of looking back to move
forward. To achieve this growth, Tashi assembled a core group of fellow
travelers, including Yoshi, composer Julia Holter, producer Cole MGN, and
percussionist Corey Fogel, to give life to this multifaceted suite |

Funky Chicken brings together
some of the best Belgian dance tracks from the early seventies. Emerged in a
country where virtually every musical wave passes through, most of these
tunes were created and recorded by hired guns, in this case a few clusters of
gifted session musicians and composers. The music on Funky Chicken is their
take on (afro-)funk, soul and Latin. Some of their releases were hit parade

the kind of mangled barking terrifyingly manic garage that the Midwest pumps
out better and more consistently than anybody and the Stools seem to be
challenging every one of us to a frenetic fistfight for top spot. With 4
songs averaging 2 minutes, the When I Left EP feels like a whirlwind
experience from its opening distortion to final feedback. The title track
When I Left is a garage punk banger a la Gun Club meets the Oblivians that
tremors and nearly buckles under its own weight before it ends. American
Convertible Stools chugs almost entirely on the same infectious blues riff,
which could be repetitive with another group at the helm, but here is just
incredibly fun and vital. The B-side? You've got the desperate and evil
blown-out blues of Black Fly Stew butted up with the gone-before-it-was-here
urgency wrapped up in a Bo Shitley beat of Don't Need Nothing. Give this a

The twenty-fifth release in
Runemark catalog delivers fresh Ten Walls EP called “Arcade”. EP contains
three original compositions, each with its own character. The title track
“Arcade” has got a slow build-up till the main theme of the composition.
Underground sounding grooves slowly evolve into a breakdown, with tasty
sequencing bits and creates that Italo feeling. B-Side starter “Casper” is a
minimalistic uplifting track with melodic touches and electronic coziness.
The most energetic track in the pack. Last but not least “SSV Normandy”
delivers a more atmospheric yet danceable as hell feeling. Composition comes
from the background wavey sounds to make groovy waves by itself. The
outro-ish ending perfectly closes the whole EP. Ten Walls “Arcade” EP is

Drop Records release 'Seven Lies', the debut album by Felix Manuel aka Djrum
(pronounced 'Drum'). Its sounds are inspired by the rawness of urban London,
influences of Portishead, DJ Shadow and The Cinematic Orchestra, jungle,
minimal techno, classic house, broken beat - all seamlessly segued with a nod
to jazz vinyl and film music. Fans will recognise Djrum's iconic tropes on
'Seven Lies': widescreen atmospheres, dub chords, dusty and melancholic
strings, obscure film samples. But this time its spread over a bigger, more
luxurious canvas that dips like an undulating terrain of sound; techno
troughs, bumpy hip hop breaks, euphoric drum and bass, all filtered through
the Djrum node. Felix would admit himself he is a not a prolific producer.
Preferring to craft and hone, often allowing music to mutate and diverge down
different paths, his tracks often top the 8-9 min marks in length. However,
each track is never at risk of becoming staid or boring, quite the opposite
as ideas mutate and evolve, subtle differences and nuances are evoked and

Jeremy
Campbell and R. Zanzibar return as Out 2 with their debut full length,
Showcase. Following their recent Moving EP, the duo expand their mix of New
York off-kilter pop lyrical poetics riding over percussive desk-dub funk
grooves. After collaborating on releases for Lectric Sands and L.I.E.S
(Zoovox and Locks & DDM) the Brooklyn team dug deep in the studio to
create 6 vocals and their dub versions in a true 'showcase' style. With that,
after its appearance in longer 'discomix' form, the album starts with the
original version of Moving. Just under 3 minutes of hectic New York funk -
chop guitar, punch bass and blasting horn jump ups. Rolling straight to the
Version, Campbell's mixing desk skills let it all hang out and back. Snares
rattle, hats ride, bass in and out, a voice rightly interjects "...are
we moving". Sliding in to Dancing, the tryptamines start to flow and
skip atop a steppas beat. The "raps", dubs and fx weave their way
in to your subconscious as electrons whirl in a warm psychedelic fuzz. This
is further exemplified in side closer, Pale Fens. The improvised vocals fit
seamlessly among the beats, bass and guitar haze. As the skin, lips, eyes,

Culti's lucid-lifestyle dreamer Peter Power takes us on a free-wheeling trip
to the motherland on AFRO DAMBA. The Irish-born Voodoohop resident has
returned from the jungles of Bahia with a fresh ep of primal party tracks
sampling voices and rhythms from across Africa and it's neighbouring islands,
producing what is easily his most club-oriented work to date. Whereas his
tracks for Voodoohop were spiritual flute-heart-openers, these are neo-pagan
mating-ritual floor-fillers. The rhythm is set to tribal chug, with
rollicking percussion, reverb-soaked vocals, and all the fun jangly bells
& bits you expect to be hanging off such a well-traveled producer. If
that weren't enough, we enlisted Romanian-dance-duo Khidja to rework Adama
Waro Resident mix-lord Dreems also weighs in with a subtle remix of
Dansakoni, gently upping the tempo and tweaking the knobs in selfless service
of the original groove. 'Dansakoni' samples Guinea's Famadou Konaté 'Mori
Baka' samples a song of the Baka people, traditionally sung to help children
fall asleep - 'Mori' comes from Moribyassa; a traditional malinke rhythm of
West Africa |

Katsoulis has been making
avant-garde electronic pop steadily since the early '80s, but it wasn't until
2014 that he transcended cult status. That year, Into The Light issued a
collection of Katsoulis' early and unreleased material, The Sleeping Beauties.
In October, Alex Bradley's Utopia Records will handle a new record from the
low-key artist. The press release says of the opener, "All The Blue
Skies," "Katsoulis and his accompanying musicians deliver a diverse
and contemporary work with a level of sophistication that will challenge the
current electronic musical landscape." The label adds that "'Grand
Delusions' sounds like it could work in a Berlin techno club, from a man that
has probably never been to one." Katsoulis is becoming more active in
the underground electronic music scene as of late. He performed at the
inaugural Strange Sounds From Beyond festival in Amsterdam in June. A 2015
remix EP featured Young Marco, Max D and Telephones interpreting tracks off

Athen's CHAIN CULT return with
their first full length following a great Demo and 7" from last year.
Recorded at Ignite Music by George Christoforidis during May and July of
2019, Shallow Grave shows the progression of a band who have played non/stop
for two years, covering pretty much all of Europe. CHAIN CULT's post punk is
anthemic, militant and idealistic, putting music to a very dark and bleak
time and place. You can hear echoes of early THE CURE, THE SOUND, Second
Empire Justice era BLITZ or WIPERS in their music but also the passion and
conviction of locals METRO DECAY, STRESS or ANTI. Very much a perfect
reflection of what springs to mind thinking about the current Athens scene |
