Farron
gets back on Shaw Cuts with his fourth record, "Invincible Shaolin"
- a tale of double-dealing, rivalry, royalty and bad blood. Manchu General
Pu's evil quest to eradicate the shaolin tradition unfolds, cunningly pitting
north and south shaolins against each other. "Spring Break Ya Neck"
opens the clash with its rhythmic shifts and whirling synth pads. The
northern masters prevail. After Pu's henchmen secretly kill the southern
shaolin, the General blames the masters from the North, unleashing chaos.
"Cosmicaph" restores order, its pounding drums and floating
melodies giving new strength to the southern shaolin. Revenge must be taken.
To prepare for conquer, the southern master sends three of his disciples to
three masters to learn their secret weapons. "Sir Hatch" sets the
pace with rolling punches, dirty synths and sharp percussion as the three
disciples transform into lethal fighting machines. Just before the final
encounter between the shaolin, Leibniz lands on the scene with his fresh
interpretation of "Spring Break Ya Neck", revealing to both schools
that they have been deceived |

Cuts is happy to welcome a new face to the label squad: Lazarus, a young
producer from Nuremberg, yields the perfect soundtrack for "The Magic
Blade" with his debut record. The story begins with another clash
between arch-rivals Fu Hung Hsueh and YenNan Fei, two of the country's most
skilled swordsmen, both on a quest to number one. "Rhea" sets the
perfect tempo for the duel with its heavyweight drums, revolving percussion
and energetic pads. Clanking swords are interrupted by the arrival of shady
company - followers of the mysterious underworld swayer sent by Master Yu who
wants Yen-Nan Fei's head. Fu Hung Hsueh and Yen-Nan Fei join forces, slaying
the villains in seconds. "Reverof Nema" rolls in, its commanding
rhythm and moody chords giving the swordsmen new force and vitality. Yu wants
to eliminate the swordsmen so that they never gain possession of the
Peacock-Dart, an indestructible weapon with thanatophoric effects and the
object of Yu's desires. But Fu Hung Hsueh and Yen-Nan Fei have already picked
up the scent. Bloody battles follow against more of Yu's entourage |

Rognvald returns with his third
installment of The New Selecta series and things are starting to get lively.
Overall it's a more breakneck affair than the previous two editions with four
more offerings of future-old skool drum mashup. "Hakon", with it's
smoke-stained sample abuse and distorted urban atmospherics reminiscent of
mid-noughties London squat parties, kicks things off before sliding into the
sexed up RnB grooves of "Foreshaddow". On the flip side
"Earldom Pollywax" flexes harsh rave against a platter of chopped
amens and wide Reese basslines. The EP closes with "Depot Drum"
featuring Morris Wotherspoon on vocal and Irish bodhran drum duties. One of
his moodiest tracks, Richard kicks forth rhythms of doom dark enough to
summon lysergic demons into the rave |

French producer Hemka delivers
her debut album on Darko Esser’s BALANS Records imprint this March entitled
‘Hunger Waves’ Residing in Paris via Marseille, Hemka has been impressing in

LP back in 2016, Muscut is bringing out Nikolaienko’s next collaboration, a
duo with Arthur Mine, a Kyiv-based keyboard maestro and an ex-member of the
‘Blacklazer’ band. “Nostalgia Por Mesozo´ica” is an exploration of
"experimental exotica" consisted of synthesized tropical attributes
— an artificial landscape isolated behind the glass frame. Reminiscent of
recording techniques and sonorities ubiquitous in the 60’s and 70’s, it could
conceivably have been intended as a soundtrack for the Mesozoic Era

140 gram vinyl - it contains the 'The Lobster' (12" version), 'Easy',
'All My Life' & 'The Word'. All 4 tracks were originally taken from the
band's debut & 2nd EP released between 1983 and 1984.The original EPs has
been discontinued and second-hand copies of the original pressing are
changing hands on Discogs for upwards of €200! The Word is one of the better
kept secrets of 1980s Austrian disco music. Yet once you put the needle on
this record, you notice that it sounds oddly familiar. The awe inspiring
signature piece “Lobster” has the same analogue, slow moving aesthetic as
Zenit’s timeless “Waiting” that was featured on Edition Hawara’s first
release. The same goes for the three other wonderfully unconventional, proto
electronic songs: “Easy”, “All M y L ife” and the eponymous “ T he W ord”.
And there are even more commonalities with Zenit’s LP: The vocals are Linda
Sharrock’s, who here teamed up with Karl “Charly” Ratzer and Peter Ponger,
the twin brother of legendary Falco producer Robert Ponger. The result of
this collaboration is, we ll, also quite legendary |

is a Leipzig outfit formed by artists Nataly, Tony and Susanne. Known in
their local scene for associations with bands like Mosquito Ego and a
penchant for Beach Boy covers, the trio confounded the bleary-eyed audience
at KRAAK Festival 2019’s 24-hour experiment with their offbeat no wave that
does not shy away from moments of funky reflection or manic free-form
detours. On LOVE, they bounce from energetic bursts of guitar-laden catharses
to groovy bass lines designed for a strange intimacy within a crumbling
chaos. Post-punk codes take on a decidedly outsider bent which infuse an
offbeat brand of love song, where babbled, screamed and moaned lyrics recount
banal yet oddly confidential vignettes of intimacy through frenzied mantras.
Each tune is a state in itself, and no two songs are alike - much like how
every experienced moment of love exists on its own and is different from the

Liesa Van der Aa (violinist,
singer, composer, producer, actress, theatre and filmmaker) is one of the

Brussellians of Commander Spoon interlace their eclectic wealth of influences
into an energetic jazz sound, respectfully demolishing walls between jazz,
hip hop, rock and electronica. The foursome consists of saxophonist Pierre
Spataro ( who is also the brain behind the cosmic melodies), guitarist
Florent Jeunieaux, bassist Fil Caporali and drummer Samy Wallens. They
released 3 EP's last year Introducing (April 2018), Declining (November 2018)
and Facing (July 2019). This trilogy allows them to celebrate a whole year of
music during their live shows. No other jazz band in Brussels will deliver a
'party' atmosphere quite like this one, and its four members embody
everything captivating about The New Wave of Belgian Jazz. And the hard work
never stops : their first album "Spooning" will be released on
February 21st on WERF records, after sessions in both Brussels and London,
working with Rick David from Pinkbird Studio. This first album is proof that
Belgian jazz is alive. It offers inspired stylistic contrasts, canny
improvisation, and killer charts. It's tight, furious and inspirational. It's
easy to see why Commander Spoon are the type of jazz group that appeals to

Lapiana's Attic Music label reaches release number 20 on the main series with
a new EP from the boss himself: Collective Chaos features remixes from fellow
Italian techno luminaries Neel & Laertes. Rome's Lapiana has been a vital
voice in the global techno underground for more than 10 years now. His Attic
Music label has played a key part in that, while his own evocative techno
soundscapes have come on the likes of M_Rec ltd, Figure Jams, ARTS and
Out-Er. This is his first outing of 2020 and is a superbly stylish techno
trip. Opener 'Crystal' is deep, drawn out techno with perfectly smooth and
supple drum programming that soon gets you in a state of hypnosis. Subtle
synth loops rise up through the mix as things grow more urgent, and once the
percussion joins you're utterly locked. The title track is a more turbulent
and edgy affair that sound tracks a dystopian urban wasteland - the synths
are riddled with static, the hurried drums are punchy and there is an urgency
in the molten synth lines that keeps you right on the edge of your seat.
Sound sculptor Neel runs Spazio Disponibile with collaborative partner Donato
Dozzy and has an impeccable knack for sound design |

After messing about with vinyl,
Ableton and music in general for more than 10 years, Dyzz from The
Illuminated decided it's time to take 'matters' into his own hands:
Introducing Degenerate Music - a label focused on bass heavy, chest rattlin',
floor shaking & dub influenced soundsystem music - starting off 2020 with
his inaugural and sharply curated 040 - 010 EP. On "That Side" we
can find 2 sought after VIP's from the duo Dyzz & Rebus, better known as
The Illuminated. Both originals Scavenger & Eindhoviah have been released
on New Moon Recordings, the deeper / techy sister label from the Moonshine
camp and Underslung Audio (digi only). Scavenger got picked up early by the
likes of Skream & Benga (BBC1 Extra radio premiere), Joe Nice (cut on
dub), N-type & Walsh (Rinse.fm) and more. Eindhoviah became a warehouse
dub for the gentlemen and close friends. The VIP's go way beyond the
originals, fulfilling the gunfinger reload requests from the last few years. |

Standards
& Practices returns after an extended hiatus with its first release for
2020 and the label's first-ever compilation. Showcasing six exclusive tracks
from a variety of musically like-minded allies both new and established,
"Out Of Practice Vol. 1" finds some of the most talented artists
currently working in electronic music refining their sound and pushing their
craft in exciting new directions. Stave and Grebenstein's "Rack 4",
their first collaboration since 2018's acclaimed "Live From Frankfurter
Strasse", kicks off the proceedings with a view into a bleak, dystopian
sonic landscape, while Italian producer VSK, known for his excellent EPs on
Mord and 47 (among others) delivers "Pendulum", one of his best
tracks to date - a visceral, unrelenting, broken-beat behemoth. Closing side
A is Chicago native Todd Mattei 's contribution, "Lake Charles", a
beautifully textured Frippian soundscape. Kristian Jabs, better known to most

a string of side projects, including Broken Glass Heroes (with Pascal

with his first love Millionaire in 2017 though, after a twelve-year hiatus.
Out of nowhere, he released the magnum opus 'Sciencing' in 2017, getting rave
reviews all over the place and putting Millionaire back on the map. The band
kicked off a sold-out release tour on Best Kept Secret Festival in the summer
of '17. Three years later, Vanhamel is back with a new record. We leave it up

Shcuro
is the alias of João Ervedosa a DJ, producer and graphic designer based in
Lisbon. He also runs the record labels Sombra and Paraíso, makes music as
Jose Acid and hosts a show on Rádio Quântica. His first contact with a DJ
setup happened at age 15, and that’s when Shcuro decided to buy his own
turntables and mixer; and started producing his own beats, too. He’s since
released music on Basal, Circus Maximus, Obscuur Techno, Golden Mist Records
and his most recent collaboration with Photonz for Future Déjà Vu. ‘Particle
of Memory’ is a hypnotic 6-track EP that explores new territories in
contemporary dance music. Sonically Shcuro paints his sounds blending moody
techno with industrial noises alongside fast, apocalyptic electro and
breakbeat. He is influenced by Portuguese rave culture that was born in the
mid-90s at Lisbon clubs Alcântara-Mar and Kremlin and the country’s first
electronic label Kaos Records. Shcuro continues to expand and morph this rich
dance heritage to create something entirely different. The bouncy, lead track

Ever
since dropping her critically-acclaimed debut LP Online Dating through
Central Processing Unit back in 2017, Tryphème (Tiphaine Belin) has marked
herself out as one of the more unique voices in contemporary electronica. We
mean that literally - Belin's productions are characterised by frequent use
of vocals, either processed to provide atmosphere or deployed high in the mix
as passages of singing/spoken word. When these are wedded to her typically
deft electronic productions the results are lush, atmospheric and moving. Two
years on from Online Dating and Tryphème has returned to CPU with the
six-track Aluminia EP. While Online Dating leaned into a range of rave
styles, Aluminia is more painterly, with Belin putting greater emphasis on
timbre and texture. 'Lava', 'Fey' and 'Cry Silent Cry' are some of the most
innovative tracks Belin has produced to date. While another producer would
allow listeners to luxuriate in such warm synth tones, Belin doesn't let you
get comfortable, constantly surprising you with innovative structural choices
or unexpected sounds |

Drumcode
starts 2020 with a sterling EP from genre hero Thomas Schumacher, his first
on the label after a long association with Adam Beyer. No ifs or buts, if
you’re a techno fan, Thomas Schumacher holds a place in your heart. His 1997
classic ‘When I Rock’ still gets rinsed, he has a vast body of stellar work
on his influential former label Spielzeug Schallplatten, including a release
from Adam Beyer, and he continues to deliver pin-sharp productions via his
Electric Ballroom imprint, including a scorching remix of ‘The House of
House’, the 1994 classic from Cherry Moon Trax. The rework was first played
by Beyer at Time Warp and has been a 2019 highlight. He first contributed to
Drumcode in 2018 with ‘The Unseen’, a stirring contribution to ‘A-Sides Vol.7’,
setting up a maiden EP with ‘Crimson’. Crimson’ is crafted around two minutes
of tension-building synths, before a beat finally appears and a rasping deep
bassline commands the dancefloor. ‘Feist’ is a no-nonsense brain melter, as
303 arpeggios bloom and recede, creating a thrilling rhythmic intensity
throughout. Lastly ‘Anker’ brings the rave with eagle-eye focus, unleashing a
wall of fierce acid to round out off the release |

Plex's Lone Romantic welcomes ManEater for a superb debut single that comes
backed with a remix from the ever-excellent Alinka. ManEater is a mysterious
name with no online profile but an evocative sound that goes way beyond the
dancefloor and well into the future. They make music that is much more than
club fodder, instead cooking up cinematic and evocative landscapes. The
excellent 'Hurry On Up' is an expansive electro trip to the edges of the
cosmos. Distant pads shimmer like forgotten planets, crisp claps and slick
drums make for a frictionless groove that always keeps you moving and the
ominous bass and soulful vocal cries finish the whole thing in real style.
Chicago native Alinka is enlisted to remix. She is known for her weird and
idiosyncratic take on house on labels like Crosstown, Classic and her own
Twirl and is one of the most exciting names in the current Windy City scene.
Her fantastic version of 'Hurry On Up' is harder hitting, with tough drums
and a lead arp that lights up the whole track with a late night menace. This

Degiorgio steps up for the next SUARA release with three heavy hitting
originals alongside a stomping remix from Mark Broom. ‘Arc Mode’ is drenched
in 303 acid lines, pounding kicks and resonating cymbals, it’s ready-made for
big rooms and dark dancefloors as surges of synths pulse through. Another
90's powerhouse Mark Broom takes to remixing ‘Arc Mode’ dialling down the
acid in place of full-frontal stabs, squelching bass synths and dizzying
hats. On the flip, Degiorgio unleashes ‘Redeemer’ an amalgamation of
swirling, siren-like synthlines, rising percussion and the kind of urgency
that will raise fists over heads wherever it’s heard. Closing out the EP

Wilson’s rich vocal tones always added magic to any song put his way. The
‘Cool Operator’ as he was affectionately named, after he worked on a tune
with the legendary Jamican producer Bunny Lee. A match made in heaven that
you will hear on the album where he was put against some of the finest
rhythms made in what would be a high point in Reggae’s history. Delroy Wilson
(b.1948 Kingston, Jamaica) began his musical career at the school which was
Coxonne Dodd’s Studio One label. His first release at the tender age of 13
was the Lee Perry produced ‘Joe Liges’. This Ska enhanced tune gave the young
singer his first hit and the follow up single ‘Spit in the Sky’ that also
flew out the record store doors. After a brief stop in 1969, Delroy began
working for producer Sonia Pottinger’s Tip Top label which gave him more hits
including ‘It Hurts’ and ‘Put Yourself in My Place’. The 1970’s saw Delroy
Wilson’s arrival at Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee’s door and what would turn into a
winning formula, scoringhit after hit. It is from this great period in
Delroy’s career that we have compiled this selection of killer tracks, cut
with drum and bass rhythm kings themselves Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare.

After two groundbreaking and
successful albums in the early 2000's, musical mastermind Tim Vanhamel
shifted his focus to a more intimate solo record and a string of side
projects, including Broken Glass Heroes (with Pascal Deweze), Eat Lions, The

Hand-numbered to 500 units one off limited pressing. Wayne Perry & Randy
Mcnutt decided to record a version of Pain in a power Soul Rock mode which
were all the range in Cincinnati, Ohio at the time of the recording around
1973. The Boys In The Band version features Wayne singing solo but was never
released. What was released was the Little Flint version (a name that Wayne
had chosen as an alto ego guise ) and assisted with that version by an
uncredited vocalist from Alaska singing live singing on top of the same
rhythm track. Other band members included Roger 'Jellyroll' Troy on bass, J
erry Love on drums,Gary Boston on guitar, Craig Shenafield & Terry
Burnside on brass (all five had played on sessions/backed James Brown at
certain points in their careers) plus the young B-3 Organist Terry Hoskins
who was just 17 at the time |

DJ / producer Joaquin Ruiz releases on Norwegian label Ploink this December,
featuring four intense techno productions. Ploink - a longstanding nightclub
in Bergen, Norway - branched out with a record label in 2014, and now boasts
a discography spanning Prins Thomas, +plattform, SkatebÂrd, Mental Overdrive
and label cofounder Thomas Urv. The labelís twentieth release comes from
Joaquin Ruiz, a twenty-six-year-old from Buenos Aires, who has previously
released on labels like Ascetic Limited and Children of Tomorrow whilst
continuing to establish himself in the underground techno scene. Ruiz opens
with the title track ëGalacticí, where haunting melodies sit upon tight,
rolling percussion and progress under complex polyrhythms whilst reverb soaked
transitions seamlessly tie the track together to set a dark and bewildering
tone for the release. ëTransmissionsí use of hypnotic arpeggios which float
amongst ethereal pads cleverly offset the uncompromising synthetic drums
whilst ëEquilateroí uses a range of interlocking synthesised movements,
underpinned by percussion in keeping with the dark aesthetic of the release |

Night On Earth welcome the prolific Deadbeat with a special double-vinyl
‘LNOE in Dub’ compilation, featuring a new Sasha exclusive. The DJ/producer,
sound artist and music tech educator already has an extensive resume of
labels and collaborators including Echocord, Mutek, Sonar, RBMA, and
Monolake. Deadbeat aka Scott Monteith has reworked his eight favourite cuts
from the LNOE back catalogue, creating 'dub' interpretations of tracks from
Sasha, Hunter/Game, Ejeca, Jody Barr, VONDA7, Alex Niggemann, Jon Gurd and
Dubspeeka. The Canadian-born, Berlin-based producer has delivered the dream –
reworks which could stand up as single tracks in their own right, while
preserving the gravitas of the original cuts.
Furthermore, Sasha’s ‘Float Collapse’ is an exclusive track from the
label head, never before released. Along with eleven albums, 20+ singles,
countless remixes and collabs, Deadbeat also has a peerless dub archive
spanning early Jamaican roots, through the 80s/90s to today’s evolving global

This
February, Rekids look to the venerable talents of Len Faki for three
fantastic remixes of tracks from FBK's 2019 debut album, ‘More Stories From
The Future’. For two decades, German artist Len Faki has towered over the
techno underground thanks to his renowned DJ sets at cult venues like
Berghain, and his always on point productions. They have come on staples like
Ostgut Ton and Cocoon, but mostly on his own powerhouse outlet Figure. Over
the years, Faki has provided a number of excellent remixes on Rekids,
including Dustin Zahn and Radio Slave himself, thus it’s incontestable that
he’s the best person to remix Kevin Kennedy’s incredible album – and the
result speaks for itself. Up first is his ‘Hardspace Mix’ of 'Headless',
which becomes a sublime seven-minute techno roller. Utterly hypnotic
throughout, it has looped one-word vocals, smooth claps and wiry synth lines
all intertwined with perfectly rubber kicks. The excellent mix of 'I'll Sit
Back' builds to a more manic peak, with hammering hits and steel-plated drums
all demanding you march to the increasingly dark techno groove as a vocal
repeat’s the title over and over. Finally, the mix of 'Hassling' is built on
hulking great drums that will rattle warehouse walls, and has dub techno
chords draped throughout: it finds a perfect sweet spot between irresistible
functionality and atmospheric form |
