Shy Dog is the solo project of
Noah Melis (Borokov Borokov, Bed Rugs, Olden Yolk). After the self titled
debut album (released in 2017) now comes the follow up record 'Be Always In
Bloom' which was heavily influenced by being on the road, going through a
break-up and sixties French & Italian movie scores. Much like the first
record almost everything was written, recorded and played by Noah himself but
this time he also called upon a number of close friends who play more exotic
instruments making the songs more orchestrated. Last overdubs were recorded
in Studio Jesus by Pascal Deweze and the album was finalised and mixed during
a two week trip in the south of Italy. Shy Dog's new songs still dangle
between bedroom pop and light psychelica, not unlike Connan Mockasin or
Devendra Banhart, but it's becoming more apparent that he is creating his own
universe filled with interweaving melodies, waltzing percussion loops and
subtle electronica |

Paraiso was one of the most
essential bands of the Spanish new wave scene in the 80s also known as
"La Movida". It is only now, over 40 years after its recording,
that we are thrilled to present Paraiso's lost album that never got released
at the time. Featuring a tracklist as selected by the band, "El Corte
Final" comprises the result of two different recording sessions from
1979, showing how fresh, fun and also potentially commercial the group was.
Paraiso recorded a hard to beat selection of pop gems under the influence of
The Modern Lovers, Devo (whose song ongoloid' they would cover) or The
Specials. "El Corte Final" includes extensive liner notes by José

Farron
continues the Shaw Cuts odyssey with his "Five Element Ninjas" EP,
echoing the story of the relentless fight against the elite ninjas with their
special skills in different elements: gold, wood, water, fire and earth. The
tale begins with a duel between two rival masters to determine which of their
martial arts schools reign supreme. Master Zeng's students are superior by
far and win every battle, but Master Hong has an ace up his sleeve. He
announces a challenge with the mysterious Five Element ninjas. "Liquid
Shorts" and its gigantic drums and menacing spirit spurs on the
strongest students facing the challenge. Weapons collide, blows rain down,
limbs get chopped. The students are not aware of the strength of the ninjutsu
technique. None survive the battle. Hong's plan to completely destroy Zeng's
school moves to the next phase. He sends female spy Senji to Zeng's temple.
She secretly makes a map and smuggles it back to her master. In the dead of
night the silent ninja offense on the temple takes place, accompanied by the
rushing rhythmics and emotive synths of "Contaship". But the
assault came too unexpectedly and only one student, Hao, escapes the violence |

Following
up on Luke Hess brilliant 12" from last year, Supercinema is now back
with another stellar release, from sleeve to groove wrapped with passion and
emotions. Belgian native Martin Respaut aka Foreign Material joins the
Supercinema family for the labels third outing, a four-track strong EP, full
of dreamy poly-rhythms, mesmerizing and colorful sounds that will put any
dancefloor into a trance. Since first surfacing the scene in 2016 under the
name of Foreign Material Martin has been releasing music on a plethora of
renowned labels like Curle, Circular Limited and his own Co-founded label
Norite. Martin describes his music as a link between the past and the future,
a mix of ancient myths and future visions. To complete this release label invited
Crossing Avenue, one of the central projects of Donato Dozzy's and Neel's
Spazio Disponibile label. Duo is known for their subterranean ambiance in
their productions which perfectly reflects on their interpretation here.
Supercinema was founded in 2018 in the south of Italy and is run by Graziano

classic Reggae from Jamaica's most important label ever. Studio One Soul
tracks the link between American Funk &Soul and Jamaican Reggae at the
legendary Studio One Records. Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding,
The Temptations, King Floyd, Booker T and The MGs - all these artists had a
huge influence on Jamaican artists and this CD contains versions of songs by
all of them. Featuring classic and rare Reggae Funk and Soul cuts from the
Reggae giants alongside rarer cuts, Studio One Soul spans over 20 years of
classic Reggae from the Rocksteady Funk through to the deep Roots music.
Following on from Studio One Rockers, this second journey into the vaults of
Studio One tells the story of the important link between American Funk and
Soul and Jamaican Reggae. Ranging from music taken from the mid of the 1960's
(and the arrival of Rocksteady) through to the beginning of the 1980's,
Studio One Soul features versions of US Funk and Soul hits (many rarely heard
before) from some of the many classic artists who recorded at Studio One.
American Soul music has always been an important influence on Jamaican
Reggae. The beginning of the Jamaican recording industry at the end of the
1950's started with Clement "Coxsone" Dodd (owner of Studio One)
and a group of select in-house musicians (originally The Skatalites)
recording their own version of American RnB. Playing on the off-beat this
music became Ska. As American R'n'B progressed through Funk, Soul and Disco,
Jamaican music was going through it's own musical changes, from Rocksteady
throught to Reggae and Roots music. The house-band at Studio One recorded on
a daily basis behind all Studio One vocalists as well as recording
instrumentally in its own right. Soul singers such as Curtis Mayfield and The
Impressions (Queen Of The Minstrels) had a profound influence on Jamaican
artists and many other US artists were constantly re-interpreted and
re-worked. Artists such as Aretha Franklin (Respect), Charles Wright (Express
Yourself), King Floyd (Groove Me), Otis Redding (How Strong) were all very
popular in Jamaica in the 1960's. At the end of the 1960's Black
Consciousness became an important part of American Soul music. At the same
time many Jamaican artists were starting to look to their roots. Many artists
would shortly become involved in Rastafarianism. The "conscious"
lyrics of American Funk and Soul again struck a chord with Jamaican artists.
"Message From A Blackman" (originally by The Temptations) and "Is
It Because I'm Black" (Syl Johnson) are examples of this. Through the
1970s Soul/Disco artists such as Barry White ("Can't Get Enough"
and "Deeper and Deeper") and The Detroit Spinners ("I'll Be
Around") became the flavour of the day. This CD finishes with Willie
William's interpretation of Ashford and Simpson's classic "Ain't No

Parisian Maxime Iko delivers with "Pray For Us" the follow-up EP
for his BPitch debut "Concilium" from 2018 and sounds as rousing,
playful and danceable as rarely before. Maxime Iko's music has always been
based on a strong groove, concise basslines, pitched down vocals and a
sensitivity to the sexually charged energy of the gay parties that Maxime Iko
co-organized in the French capital. The resident DJ from Ellen Allien's We
Are Not Alone rave parties and the Parisian club Dehours Brut goes even
further with “Pray For Us” and presents four equally strong tracks between
hyperactive techno and retrofuturistic electro vibes - the theme of the EP is
various visions of the apocalypse. A1 number "Dagyde" sets a jagged
pace with its stray arpeggio theme and bone-dry claps - the perfect start to
visualize Maxime Iko's fondness for playfulness and an otherwise rarely found

first part of Pig&Dan’s ‘Tunnel Vision’ EP lands in transcendent style.
Since their debut on Drumcode in 2016 with ‘Mexico’, Pig&Dan have firmly
established themselves as one of the label’s most vital acts . They’ve
dropped four memorable EPs, including a standout four-tracker with Adam Beyer
‘Capsule’, all of which reinforced their uncompromising production standards.
‘Tunnel Vision I’ is this accomplished talent in full bloom and the first of
a two-part EP series. Rather than release an album and potentially explore
less dancefloor-orientated tangents, the pair opted to present eight tracks
the represent their high-impact, euphoric take on techno. The cuts have done

welcome electronic composer Matthew Puffett AKA Future Beat Alliance with his
killer single ’Never Forever’ a sublime slice of broken beat techno that
originally had a limited release on his “Patience and Distance” album in
2009. It now comes backed with a first rate remix courtesy of R&S regular
Afriqua. A veteran of the UK electronic scene originally from Oxford but now
located in Berlin, Puffett made his name in the late 90s with a string of
sought after releases on Void Records under the aliases Mode-M and Soul
Electrik before settling on the Future Beat Alliance handle. Notching up
releases with the likes of Delsin, Rush Hour and Versatile as well as with
the storied Tresor imprint, both as a DJ and an artist. In 2019 Matt started
his new imprint Reward System to self release new creations. Life long friend
from Oxford, Mo’ Wax and Unkle maestro James Lavelle reached out in 2012,
which led to a further creative chapter in Puffett`s story that culminated
with him co-writing & programming on Unkle’s 5th studio album ’The Road

records containing four classic cuts that put the hardcore rave sound on the
map. DJ Bountyhunter’s Demilitarized Zone first appeared on Power Vinyl and
was an exclusive at the time. Featuring thumping beats and sweeping hoover
sounds, the main melody and the vocals were inspired by the popular TV show,
The Twilight Zone. Up next we will have the superb Reality from Phrenetic
System aka Peter Schiettekatte and Frederico Santini. Hailed as one of the
very best in our back catalogue, Reality hit hard and true, sending clubbers
into a frenzy. A gentle melodic note opens the track before a robotic voice
comes through. Powerful beats take over as gritty synths and basses rock the
speakers. Karim Boux and Roel Reynders’ project, Belgica Wave, gave us The
Wave which caused quite a stir upon release. The track opens with a Gregorian
style vox with a crowd ready for action. After a short prayer, the hoovers
start and the track lifts off, catapulting us into the stratosphere |

While the electric noir and
mind-expanding rituals of Nordmann and MDCIII exude nocturnal misconduct and
turbulent grooves, Mattias De Craene walks a far more contemplative route
with his solo project, looking for a personal and more introvert sound on the
cusp between minimalism and melancholic meditation, focusing on the saxophone
as an inner sound box. De Craene works with loops and effects, but the
building blocks of his music - both the long, ethereal melodies and the
indefinable sounds - are created exclusively with the saxophone. The
instrument is not just an extension of the musician, but a sound generator
that brings together lushness and cinematic repetition, a siren that seduces
the listener. The result sounds fluent and free and is permeated by a
Northern expanse that is unpredictably intoxicating. There are similarities
with the worlds of Nils Frahm and Colin Stetson, but De Craene uses a
language that is entirely his own and in which tender longing and the tumult
of wilderness come together |
