Austria's
Paul Walter comes head to head with Romania's most lyrical imprint, Catren.
One track per each side, he doesn't compromise when it comes to quality,
emotion and execution. Reminiscent of earlier days Chilean productions which
we need not name but will for melancholy's sake, the A side, "Yuil"
takes us back to the days of Hireklon and Waiworinao, thought long forgotten
and forsaken in favor of cold and austere expressions. Guitar strings
harmonically banded together with minimalistic percussions, handclaps and
indescifrable vocals compose what will be remebered as a hall of fame track
in the years to come. "Phobo", on the B Side, takes a more
classical approach that will most likely bring back memories as well,
catering to a more upbeat style, using poliphonic melodies and a two tone
theme that drives the track forward alongside discrete drums and a swingy,
fast paced bassline. Switching to "Hacker", a more light hearted
third course relying on dub influenced melodies and mid ranged basslines,
Paul shows just exactly how versatile he is and the diversity that he is
capable of bringing forward |

Castro poses the next question and subsequent answer in the Why So Series

timed percussion and keepsake melodic intricacies from start to finish, he

through metalic rhytms and introverted harmonies leading up to more
animalistic tendancies that speak volumes of the origins of his upbringing,
while "Mr. Chef" keenly takes things miles forward with joyful and
uplifting synths that complement the deeply grounded and earthly chasis of
the track. Delving a bit into the dark, "Desorden Callejero" pays
tribute to legendary sud-americano minimal masterminds like Argenis and Pier
Bucci back in their highly experimental phases with swifty vocals and
sligthly monophonic intakes that take the place of percussive elements,
cleary stating the obvious. And if you're feeling slightly
"Confused" by now, don't fear, you're amongst good company. Breaks

In winter 1976, a few years
before Olexandr Shapoval headed up the well-known band Vodogray, a jazz band
called Shapoval Sextet recorded three pieces "Kobzareva Duma" in
live at the Donetsk Jazz Festival. The tape has been lost for almost 45 years,
until now. The most radical, experimental and psych jazz recording from the
Ukrainian Soviet-era found to date. Oh, the bittersweet fate of this
record... If it was not for my pursuit
to initiate a jazz program on Ukrainian Radio a year before which, by the
way, remained on the Promin's air for almost 15 years, the record would not
have existed at all. Yes, there was an issue of choosing the repertoire among
Ukrainian artists which we mainly found at jazz festivals at the time. Dnipro
has annually hosted such events since 1968. A year later, in 1969, there was
held the first "Donetsk-100" festival timed to the 100th
anniversary of the city's foundation. Over time, the Donetsk Philharmonic
became one of the organizers of city jazz events |

Alternative Futures EP is the second release from London based DJ/Producer
duo Suburban Architecture. Drawing heavily on influences from one of Drum
& Bass's most innovative eras, the mid to late 90s, the duo's productions
place a contemporary spin on sounds rooted in this golden era of dance music.
Picking up where 2019's "Visions" EP left off, this new 4 track EP
delivers another collection of sounds that meet at the intersection of
nostalgia and modern production. "Final Call" marries Jazz Fusion
with dreamy vocal samples and atmospheric pads to match, all at a lowered
tempo which harks back to the birth of the "intelligent" sound.
"Future Jazz '95" meanwhile is a stepping jazz-infused roller that
invokes memories of DJ Pulse, Jazz Cartel et al. On the flip, atmospherics
lead the way: "Chinatown" provides rolling drums over layers of
lush pads and melancholy horns while "New Horizons" throws a nod in
the direction of Bukem's early "Good Lookin" releases with

Amore Tossico is a legendary cult film, a stark and unflinching look at
Italy's "junkie generation". Directed by Claudio Caligari, he
approached the film more like a documentary than a work of fiction, using as
his "actors" actual and recovering junkies; Caligari "imagined
it more as a straight-up visual ethnography, hyperreal, replete with humor in
the most grotesque situations - like life." Accompanying Caligari's
stark imagery and story is the soundtrack by Detto Mariano - a prolific
composer, arranger, and pianist - who wrote the entirety on his FAIRLIGHT
series IIx, a now revered synthesizer that had just been released that year.
The sound is therefore scary and up to date, a true companion to the vivid
and rough imagery of the movie. This led the composer to a brand new level of
engagement: the machine is the tool, hence the music, quite possibly the
Italian answer to the industrial revolution. Coming from an academic
background, Detto Mariano knew little of the so-called grey area, but in fact
Amore Tossico can easily be associated with the pioneers of the genre, such
as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. The soundtrack is dark, angular,
harsh and - just at times - funky. Surely it can rival the intensity of
Carpenter's The Thing or Throbbing Gristle's Heathen Heart. Never before
available on any format, Penny Records is honored to present this first time
release, mastered from the original tapes, on deluxe 140 gram black vinyl in
a gatefold sleeve with bonus CD of the entire album plus a reproduction of
the original film poster |

second instalment of the Arupa Music Vinyl Limited release presents Bexu, an
artist who derives from Cluj-Napoca, North Western Romania. Bexu’s
discography has grown steadily over the past few years, and we are super
proud to make an addition in physical format. Title track Calatoria entices
mystery from the get go, an artistic soundscape of dreamy, uplifting pads
with chugging bass and sharp driving percussion. The hypnotic vocal eagerly
anticipating an answer, rightly deserves provoking sequel (part two). ‘Doru
Lenii’ is a different approach to the dreamy off kilter nature of the
Calatoria tracks. A driving, instructive vocal, builds anticipation and

After
a long break of around seven years, Drivecom the Spanish label based on
advanced electro conducted by Boris Divider is back again to the scene
delivering a minimal concept (as stated on its first roots) but with
avantgarde elements to keep a vibe on the contemporary edge. This is the
first episode of a new project under the name of “Generative Operations”. A
project born from a new vision and workflow at the B. Divider’s studio. From
the technical side, the use of massive modular synthesis and generative
sequencing make the tracks to be different each time are being played, so
here you have a unique recording of a certain moment as if it was and imprint
of an instant. Also the minimalistic percussion tries to be slowly developed
in an electro rhythm structure. In the other hand all the tracks have a
cinematic vibe, it seems as they were composed thinking about to fit in any
hi-tec sci-fi thriller movie. Granular sythesis pads, background noises,
experimental compression routines help to fullfill the vision. At the moment

the first episode, Drivecom presents the second part of the Generative
Operations series. It continues with the dark, technical and minimal concept

Following their sublime 2019
collaboration, “Sakla Beni”, production king Kutiman and Turkish songstress
Melike Sahin reunite on Anatolian psych anthem, “Elmi Tut (Hold My Hand)”.
And a simple revival this is not. The Turkish & Middle Eastern psych sound
of Erkin Koray, Baris Manco, Selda Bağcan, Omar Khorshid & Aris San
is brought bang up to date with swathes of hallucinatory synths, filtered
basslines, hard-as-nail drum breaks and Kutiman’s magic touch. Having met in
Istanbul in 2017, Şahin and Kutiman rapidly developed a beautiful
chemistry. Şahin’s striking voice inspired Kutiman to create a genuine
yet modern Anatolian psych sound and the resulting 2019 single, “Sakla Beni”,
became a global hit, championed by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne.
Meanwhile, the modern Anatolian sounds of bands such as the Netherlands-based
Altın Gün and the contemporary Middle Eastern-influenced psych of
Khruangbin, have taken the world by storm. Kutiman and Şahin’s follow-up

British number one from British soil” by the readers of UK newspaper “The
Guardian, “West End Girls” by British duo Pet Shop Boys is an all-time
synth-pop classic that comes in a 2×12” package with two mixes from legendary
Dutch producer remixer Ben Liebrand, a 2020 version from UK house hero
Michael Gray, and a new mix by Italian wizard Moplen. The 2 Liebrand mixes
offer an acoustic variation on the 80’s synth theme, expanding on the
luscious string section, providing a canvas for extensive trumpet solos. The
result is the ‘Ben Liebrand “9 Course Suite”. Also provided is the ‘Ben
Liebrand Nu-Disco Remix’ with a more laidback feeling featuring a funky
acoustic bass line. Michael Gray adds his classy percussive beats with a more
sustained feel letting the melodies take over, yet retaining the PSB charm,
whilst multi track guru Moplen stays true to the original Bobby Orlando PSB
production. Mastering was done at the famous Abbey Road Studio’s in London |

Johannes Volk (Exploration, Axis)
delivers a debut EP for Running Back that is like a Swiss knife. Five tracks
moving within the boundaries of techno music and many times well beyond
those. The title track yields the way in an electric drill manner, before new
wave techno, piano house and Italo tropes meets beaming electro and even a
slick homage to the man referred to as the purple one. It’s hard to imagine
all of that without Volk’s upbringing in the tropic of Frankfurt’s techno
legacy. Owing as much to Detroit as to Depeche Mode, it is what it is and you
hopefully still just can’t get enough of it |

As
the pandemic continues to put a halt on clubbing as we knew it, techno dons
Pan-Pot have adapted their sound to suit these uncertain times. The
dancefloor focus remains, but on their latest EP, there’s a restraint and
delicacy to the tracks that reveals yet another facet of the duo’s
creativity, and innate understanding of what their fans want to hear right
now. “Keid” builds slowly with rustling percussion, insistent tapping and a
sneaky, smouldering bassline that bypasses the predictable massive drop for
something moodier and more subtle. Exotic jungle sounds, tribal drums and
cool bleeps open the atmospheric “Planet9”, which soon pivots towards a
thrilling build and ravey arpeggios that sound ripe for dank basement clubs
and open-air festivals alike. “Echoes from Epsilon” is probably the most
unexpected track of the lot. Five and a half minutes of ambience is
characterised by airy pads, windchime synths, and a transportative,
meditative air that is light years away from Pan-Pot’s typical fare.At once

King Tubby in no uncertain terms invented DUB. Born Osbourne Ruddock in
Kingston in 1941. He grew up around High Holborn Street in central
Kingston,before moving to the Waterhouse district in 1955. His electronic
genius grew from working and fixing radios and t.v. sets, a natural
progression led to working with amplifiers,and starting his own sound
systemTubbys Home Town Hi- Fi. A very competitive game in the late 60s. You
were as good as the EXCLUSIVE records you played. Tubby discovered during his
time cutting discs for Duke Reids Treasure Isle set up, that by dropping
vocals / instruments in and out of the backing tracks, you could invent new
versions of existing old tunes. These early versions tried and tested on his
sound system went down so well that he invested in a four track mixing
console, that was being sold from Dynamic Studios in Kingston. With his vast
knowledge of electrics, he rewired the existing console with delay echo
effects, sliders and phasing units and so began King Tubbys Studio Of Dub at
18 Drummlie Avenue, Kingston 11, Jamaica...His Home... This is where all the
producers would bring their tracks for Tubby to put his magic over. Most
tracks that came out in Jamaica from here on in would carry a Version on its
B-side more than likely a Tubby dub. One of the producers who used him the
most was Bunny Striker Lee, whos labels Jackpot, Justice and Attack all
carried Tubbys mixes / versions on their flip sides. Our collection here, are
all taken from the original master tapes you might have have heard the tracks
before but not these versions.... Lost in the vaults till now. So sit back
and enjoy the dub master at work |

Barry Brown one of reggaes vastly
overlooked talents. His militant conscious style has over time lost none of
its appeal. Truly one of the sweetest roots vocalists to come out of Jamaica.
As with many of his artists Bunny Lee encouraged him to go into self-production,
and after a time spent with producer Linval Thompson Separation', and Sugar
Minott things & Time', he did just that and produced his first release
Pool Pon Your Corner' in 1980 followed in 1981 by Problems Get You Down'. We
hope this release will find a place in your collection and remind us of the
talent of Mr Barry Brown.If somewhat overlooked, but certainly now not
forgotten. Lets celebrate with the man and go to the blues one more time... |

supreme live performer, Jacob Miller had a stormy temperament which gave him
an indescribable aura and earned him the name "Killer". He was one
of the most brilliant singers of his generation and died in a car accident in
1980 at the age of 25. Tommy Cowan is a former member of the Treasure Isle
vocal group The Jamaicans, who further displayed his credentials as a rootsy

LTM presents a limited double vinyl gatefold edition of B9, the definitive
collection of cold wave and minimal electronica from Belgium, recorded
between 1979 and 1983. Originally released on Sandwich Records in May 1981,
B9 featured 10 exclusive tracks by luminaries such as Digital Dance,
Polyphonic Size, Kid Montana, Pseudo Code and Prothese, the latter the first
recording project by Daniel Bressanutti of Front 242. Now digitally
remastered, with 10 additional tracks on the second disc, this new deluxe
vinyl edition also features Front 242, The Names, Marine, Siglo XX, The Neon

We
are proud to present ‘Into The Great Wide Yonder’, the second album of Anders
Trentemøller and the follow up of the highly succesful ‘The Last Resort’
(2006). Just like his debut, which struck a chord with new audiences all
around the world, ‘Into The Great Wide Yonder’ is a truly remarkable album,
offering as much depth and soul as it’s predecessor, yet sounding ultimately
fresh and different. Above all, the ten tracks show an artist that’s willing
to take risks, find in- spiration in new places and move beyond the sound of
his previous album. Trentemøller: ‘Of course I didn’t want to make the same
record twice. So the album is for me a logic development from ’The Last
Resort’’. Instead he just started to collect new ideas, without thinking too
much about the direction the music would take him: ‘The only thing I knew was
that I’d want the music to sound more organic and analog.’ Compared to the
intimate electronic mood pieces of ‘The Last Resort’, the ten tracks on the
new album indeed have a more strange, mystic and dramatic vibe, with a lot of
dynamics, distorted, driving twang- guitars, real and electronic drums mixed
with haunting synths. With ‚Into The Great Wide Yonder‘ Trentemøller is not
only exploring new moody and atmospheric universes, but combines his sense
for glorious soundscapes with a firm melodic and tonal touch. The original
chord progressions and feel for melodies is fundamental to him, and that‘s
also the reason why most of the instruments are played by Trentemøller
himself on this album. ‚I like the possibility to be surprised that chords
and melodies change into something new. The music that I like most lets the
themes and sounds come back in different disguises‘. The Danish multi
instrumentalist and producer shows an unexpected talent for finding vocalists
that fit the mood of his songs. The first single of the album, the
beautifully tender ‘Sycamore Feeling’, featuring Marie Fisker, is a typical
highlight |

The
title track, 'Olympics of Love', was advanced as the first single from the
album. 'Mitraille' is the second single from Bombataz. In 'Mitraille' they
copulate the r&b of Justin Timberlake with the 80's synth-funk of Sly
Fox. Mitraille is about Mike, a man who loses himself on dating sites in the
(des)hope of encountering the love of his life. In his mind, Mike is already
sleeping with his Russian bride, but the reality is less bright. "The
new STUFF. is called Bombataz" wrote Indiestyle. And Lander Gyselinck (
STUFF.) and his are still used as a reference. "Beraadgeslagen meets
Animal Collective, but in the 80's" according to Humo. "Danceable
jazzy-electro-glitchy-retro-funky artpop that combines melancholy with
strange samples", judged the Brussels website STOEMP! Bombataz is a pop
group with a jazzy approach. Fusion, in the electrically charged tradition of
Miles Davis. Although they find the discussion whether it's 'jazz or no jazz'
totally uninteresting. At the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards 2019 Bombataz
received the award for 'Most Promising Artist' and were nominated for Best EP |

saxophonist Ambroos De Schepper. Flawlessly blending contemporary jazz,
electronics, hip-hop, noise and global beats, the sound is based around the
freedom of expression and improvisation and performed with dazzling
conviction. Set for release on 23rd October via Sdban Ultra, debut EP 'Sub
Surface' is an exhilarating fusion of frenetic grooves and innovative
soundscapes. With compositions often based around a single propulsive drum
rhythm, each instrument is allowed to take centre stage floating from one
extreme to the other and never settles on one particular genre. And therein
lies the impulsive beauty of Bandler Ching. De Schepper's compositions are
performed without border - mischievous, dynamic and unpredictable at the same
time. Debut single 'Pousmousse' rolls along on a loose beat as the magnetism

Regions to witness torturing flames, black magic woods, seas of damned souls

Still hot after his successful
debut on Toytonics (garnering support from the likes of DJ Harvey, Fouk, Mark
Farina, Llorca, Glimmers, Lobster Theremin & many more) mysterious MAGOU
has decided to break free from label ties and go solo on this new EP, which
features 3 nonetheless of major geniuses of our time. First off Umberto ECO,
the renowned cultural critic and novelist, is featured on an acid disco
number (here in a vinyl-only extended mix). On the flip side, legendary
Argentinian writer Jorge Luis BORGES tops the funkiest track of the century,
period. Italian maestro Ennio MORRICONE is homaged on the 3rd track, which
combines 303 sequences with cinematic choirs and Japanese city pop samples.

Toki Fuko, a representative of
the Russian techno scene, joins Annulled for a mental and voodoo techno EP.
‘Chain Reaction’ focuses on achieving an outstanding environment within a
complex fusion of sounds modulated by current randomness, arranged by body
and soul. Sometimes odd and trippy, sometimes magical and mysterious, like
the unconventional spiritual journey. Side A. ‘Chapter 7 ‘Desire’’: This one
of the big book of life. It was an inspiration of one of the lectures of
Gangaji. Her immersive voice, along with some drone pads, a modulated Cwejman
S1MK2 synthsizer and a lovely broken beat. 'Vaal': was created after a long
live record session on Toki Fuko's studio. He experiments with his modular
synthesizer a raw and deep atmosphere that captures the listener's attention
as you enter your labyrinth. Side B. 'Polonium': The main bass line was
recorded from a BLD modular. The immersive pad, the sequenced bass line, the
broken beat and the modulated sounds from a Cwejman S12MK2 synthsizer |

Wardown
releases debut album on Blu Mar Ten Music. The emotive and eponymous project
from Pete Rogers, of leading drum & bass outfit Technimatic. "It was
my own countryside, and I loved it with an intimate feeling, though all its
associations were crude and incoherent. I cannot think of it now without a
sense of heartache, as if it contained something which I have never quite
been able to discover". Wardown is not so much a musical album as a
diary of smeared memory; an account of physical, temporal, familial, musical
and sentimental dislocation. Created by Technimatic's Pete Rogers, the
self-titled Wardown project uses his childhood home of Luton as a
psychological fulcrum upon which he balances feelings of loss and yearning
for the town, for now-passed family members and for the music of his youth
which inextricably bound these things together. "a ghost wandering in a
world grown alien" Embodying an ephemeral union with his Lutonian roots,
the LP consists of mixtape cuts recorded from his teens, recordings of
deceased family, clips from forgotten documentaries about Bedfordshire's rich
free party heritage, recordings of brass bands and field recordings of the
town-centre. The result is relentlessly beautiful, unashamedly personal and
haunted with melancholy |
