Blues
for Dracula is the debut album by American jazz drummer Philly Joe Jones
which was recorded in 1958 for the Riverside label. A former child tap
dancer, Philly Joe Jones was destined to become something of a percussionist.
As it was he became world renowned as the drummer of Miles Davis first great
quintet, serving as the rhythm and time keeper of that great outfit between
1955 and 1958. He left for a solo career in 1958. His debut became an instant
classic thanks to the title track (written by Johnny Griffin) and the
similarly themed cover. The song packs plenty of hard-charging swing and
blues/drenched improvisation from cornetist Nat Adderley, trombonist Julian
Priester, saxophonist Johnny Griffin, pianist Tommy Flanagan and bassist
Jimmy Garrison. But it's also a cheeky take on the horror-film craze of the
1950s, complete with a Bela Lugosi impersonator who intones with a thick
Transylvanian accent, "I'm the Bebop Vampire. I like the song the song
to shine!"Thereafter Philly Joe both led his own groups *he would record
a further twelve albums up to 1982( as well as performing as a sideman for a
wide variety of musicians including Bill Evans and Hank Mobley |

lads from Bremen guzzled a whole era. They interpret early 80s NDW with contemporary

Funk takes a step forward again to melt Jazz with Disco , Funk and
Technoparts on a special manner. Alexander was exalted from The Cliff when he
listened to the track in it's original demo version and contributed a remix.

Belgian party organisation and record label De:tuned presents the final
outing of their 10 year anniversary vinyl series. "DE:10.10" kicks
off with a trippy Plaid remix of Humanoid's "sT8818r" track. The
remix provides some more 3AM rave pressure for those sweaty basement parties.
Erik Van Den Broek aka Shiver follows with a previously unreleased mix of
"Primerose", an emotive late night acid track that was released on
the 5 Years De:tuned box set in 2014. The B-side offers
"Formulate", music straight from the soul produced by the physical
embodiment of UK emotive techno and one half of B12, Steven Rutter. Lone
completes the series with "Dream Ache", an exclusive track that
graced Rustie's BBC Radio One Essential Mix back in 2012, finally pressed on
wax. Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) created all the graphic
work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis Mastering. This 12" is
pressed on 180 gr clear vinyl and is housed in a detailed silver foil sleeve

black vinyl) In 1995 The Pump Panel (Tim Taylor and Dan Zamani) were
commissioned by FFRR/London Records to Redux their choice of any New Order
track. They selected the 1983 electro track “Confusion” and transformed it
into a stunning 10 minute Acid Journey dominated by a distorted and
unforgettable 303 Bassline. It was that Killer Acid Riff that has driven this
unique story ever since. Released on FFRR in 1995 “Confusion” (Pump Panel
Re-construction Mix) was an instant club hit Worldwide and especially in the
Los Angeles Party Scene. It was in LA in 1996 when Wesley Snipes witnessed
the track played several times to huge responses and then licensed it
personally to his upcoming Blade Movie. In August 1998 Blade was released in
cinemas and went to Number 1 on the US Box Office chart. The opening scene
that featured over 4 minutes of “Confusion” propelling the vampire club blood
sequence was described in the Los Angeles Times as “The coolest opening to a
Movie ever”. From that point onwards Blade and “Confusion” achieved Iconic
status, it was unprecedented for a pumping acid track to be so heavily and
famously used in a blockbuster movie |

Detroit
pioneer Robert Hood joins Radio Slave’s Rekids label with a new album
entitled ‘Mirror Man’ this November. A founding member of Underground
Resistance alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, Robert Hood is one of
techno’s originators and his decorated career spans three decades. The
American artist and his M-Plant label laid down the blueprint for minimal
techno and 1994’s ‘Minimal Nation’ on Axis was a definitive album that
further cemented Hood’s reputation as one of the greats to emerge from the
Motor City. Since then, Hood has gone on to release on many of electronic
music’s best labels like Tresor, Peacefrog, Music Man Records, Dekmantel and
more. After a busy few years making music and touring as Floorplan alongside
his daughter Lyric, Hood now joins Rekids with an album showcasing his innate
knack for crafting paired back but intricate rhythms that deliver punch and
soul. Opening with the cinematic ‘Through A Looking Glass Darkly’, the album
quickly flows into precise, powerful four four. There’s mesmerising cuts such
as ‘Fear Not’ with its throbbing bass and spectral vocals, the twisted and
off-key ‘Run Bobby, Run’, not to mention muscular tracks designed to light up
dancefloors like the machine driven ‘A System of Mirrors’ or the mesmerising
‘Face In The Water’. Hood also breaks things up with downtempo and
mind-bending interludes, including the tranquil yet spooky ‘Black Mirror’ and
the beatless and murky ‘Freeze’. Each of these are aural feasts that
demonstrate his vast musical pallet. From start to finish ‘Mirror Man’ is an

listen to the signals: when the club life is reawakening, DJ Hell returns
with the album House Music Box (Past, Present, No Future). In contrast to its
predecessor album Zukunftsmusik (2017), with his new work Hell looks back to
the glorious early days of House and Techno in Chicago, Detroit and New York
City. Obvious references are the heroes that vibrated the dancefloor from the
late 80s, i.e. luminaries like Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles and Lil’ Louis
from the Chicago house scene, or the legendary radio shows of The

Donato Scaramuzzi (Donato Dozzy). The record is a colorful ode of an Italian
scented vision, overflowing of details and profound intensity. The
contemporary world condition, the pandemic in Italy and around the world
define »Il Quadro di Troisi« as a unique and right-on-time release. This
record is a enigmatic collaboration between the two Italian natives Andrea
Noce and Donato Scaramuzzi. Andrea Noce takes lead on the vocals, with Donato
Scaramuzzi carving the dreamlike soundscapes of the record. The record was
born with a correspondence between the two artists about the late actor and
director Massimo Troisi, and this exchange soon became an inspirational
source of identification. Andrea Noce’s lyrics are sensitive and
multi-faceted, they perfectly cling to the musical phrases and flow like a
filmic monologue from the oeuvre of that very Troisi. In a highly creative
and confident manner, entire decades of national music history are
comprehended and transformed into the here and now. The record takes its cue
from the italo-disco, synth pop tradition corroborated by the contribution of
artists such as the legendary Twilight Music co-founder, Paolo Micioni, as
well as Stefano Di Trapani who wrote »L’ipotesi«. With »Il Quadro di Troisi«,
Noce and Scaramuzzi prove their eclecticism, and passion for their home
country. »Il Quadro di Troisi« is a collaboration between Raster and the
Milan-based festival Terraforma. With this release, the first with a purely
Italian focus on the label, Raster celebrates its long standing relation with
Italy and the Italian audience, encapsulated in the label's project ›Electric
Campfire‹ held in Rome for ten years. Terraforma is an international
experimental and sustainable music festival taking place since 2014 in the
park of Villa Arconati, where Dozzy has been invited at every edition in

Deep returns to Tresor with his new EP ‘Fosph’, his first release on the
label since 2015. In the time between then and now, the Deeply Rooted boss
has been particularly active, from b2b DJ sets with Jeff Mills, his work as
part of the duo Sergie Rezza, to his newly released jazz-house remixes of
Cotonete. Listening to his mixes, which regularly spin from essential Chicago
and Detroit house sounds, through blends of Afro-percussion and dub reveals
an ear sensitively tuned to the ground searching stories through music.
‘Fosph’ proves an EP of real mastery that exudes techno, its drive, phasing
patterns and melodic minimalism. ‘Swamps’ opens the record with a jungle
cacophony, its rhythms dipping and diving on a ritualistic sequence -
judiciously lean, biting and expressive. ‘Tommy’ is an exercise in solo
TR-909, the less-is-more machine repetitions that journey unceasingly - sure
to be a crucial drum tool. ‘Utrecht’ hints at an expansive 90s ambient sound,

Teste
returns with The Box Man, a five-track EP that marks their first release of
original material in 25 years. Formed during the early nineties in Hamilton,
Ontario, they put out only three official records between 1992-1993 on Probe
Records, most notably 'The Wipe,' which is regarded as a genre defining
classic, while the follow-up 'Regions' also served as a template for the
ensuing sonics of contemporary techno. With only a handful of live actions,
the final chaotic show (public disturbance) occurred for Pure in Glasgow
1994. Afterwards, the original Teste lineup of juvenile delinquents disbanded
but unwittingly ended up defining the hypnotic and drugged out strains of
today's afterhours techno parties. The project vanished for decades until
reactivating the chaos in 2014, promoting a slew of remixes 'The Rewipes,' by
artists such as Rrose and Terence Fixmer, on the Edit Select imprint. Since
then, original member David Foster, still at large as //HUREN//, has been
slugging it out in the fringes with influential output on the seminal Zhark
Recordings Berlin and has collaborated as O/H with Rich Oddie of Orphx |

Tadd Mullinix's Charles Manier
project returns with a third double-LP, Luxus Steroid Abamita, an edict of
nine new amorphous transmissions and clustered, clangorous, hemi-synthetic
funk. This is experimental machine music: it's inspired by the fringes of
dance, but skirts petrified arpeggios and other stock Wave and Technopop
emblems. Its spirit elicits Sheffield Post-Punk and Düsseldorfer NDW
desiderata, but exploits are crisp, psychedelic, and expansive. Lyrics come
as laconic Dada, sociopolitical impressions—in counterpoint to concrète tape
smears, echoing guitar deluges, and entrenched in ever-shifting grime. A wide
spectrum of density is proffered. Atmospheric zones are submerged, modulating
knells. When tempos increase, sample & hold mutations make synthesizers
sputter and writhe. The title track and opus, Yopo (Calcium Tree)' carry this
with heavy pulses—storming like locomotives |

with 8 exclusive, primarily electronic tracks by producers from four
different countries who are more (in)famous as graffiti writers than as
musicians.''Letters on a wall, letters on a train. When you take it back to
that essence, it?s really not so strange that graffiti writers call
themselves and each other writers. With just a few letters ? a word, a name ?
they write their mythology for a general audience. No huge vocabulary needed,
just imagination and a need for expression. It can come as no surprise that
those qualities extend to other disciplines as well. Graffiti has long been
associated with musical styles (hip-hop, punk) that contain an abundance of
imagination and expression. Less well known is the fact that graffiti writers
have embraced the DIY approach of electronic music. Writers on Wax Volume 1
is a group exposition of beats and basslines, imagination and expression.

Donald
John Sebesky was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, USA, on 10 December 1937.
His father worked in a steel-cable factory, his mother was a housewife. At
the age of eight he started learning the accordion, he later came to realize
that this instrument was the best possible choice he could have made because,
as he says, «the accordion is a 'mini-orchestra' and teaches the principles
of harmony from the very beginning». In 1965 Don Sebesky joined Verve Records
when Creed Taylor was still a producer for the label. One of his most
distinctive and successful arrangements was for Wes Montgomery's album
'Bumpin' released the same year. In 1967, when Taylor left the company to
launch his own CTI, Sebesky joined the newborn label as staff arranger,
giving his precious contribution in creating many hit records. During the
late '60s / early '70s, his orchestral backgrounds helped make artists like
Montgomery, George Benson ('Shape of Things To Come', 1968), Paul Desmond
('From the Hot Afternoon', 1969) and Freddie Hubbard ('First Light', 1971)
acceptable to audiences outside of Jazz. Originally released on Verve in
1968, The Distant Galaxy is quite an hybrid of soul jazz and space-age music,
an influential cornerstone fully sampled by a who's who of hip-hop and
r&b superstar like Rakim, Madlib and Buck 65. Such an obscure and
terrific album that features a blend of jazz, psych and good old 60s light
pop with brief @cosmic@ audio tidbits inserted between most of the main
tracks |

Group
Rhoda, the solo project of Mara Barenbaum, returns to Dark Entries with
‘Passing Shades’. An integral member of the Oakland electronic music scene,
Barenbaum has been writing, performing, and plunging into oneiric depths as
Group Rhoda since 2009. This is the project’s fourth LP, and the third time
Barenbaum has collaborated with Dark Entries; previously on the Max &
Mara LP ‘Less Ness’ in 2013 and the Group Rhoda LP ‘Wilderless’ in 2017.
Passing Shades is an investigation of the metaphysics of loss and the
transitory nature of the material world. But it is not a grim collection;
over 8 songs, Group Rhoda diverges through synthesizer-laden symphonics,
four-to-the-floor inflections, and cosmic musings. Barenbaum’s striking voice
and singular songcraft guide us through this labyrinth. Arpeggiated waltz
“Flow” channels wisdom sought through martial arts; “Earthly Ark” sets a
Margaret Atwood poem from the God Gardener’s Hymn Book to somber electronics.

With
every album, Donder looks for a new approach, a new sound and especially new
ways to enrich their repertoire. This is no different for their fourth
full-length album. The idea for the new album stems from encounters with the
Norwegian music scene, a scene that has spawned a lot of unique and
groundbreaking music in recent years. Norway has a deep-rooted folk music
tradition, a tradition characterized by improvisational freedom, a sense of
melody and complex rhythms. This folklore tradition goes hand in hand with
the philosophy behind jazz, a combination that results in a considerable
amount of creative and genre-crossing music. Despite a thriving scene, a
similar heritage appears to be missing or overlooked in the Belgian and
Flemish jazz scene. With this project, Donder wants to fill the gaps in their
musical identity and investigate what role this musical heritage can play in
their music. For this fourth record, Donder is joined by Sigbjorn Apeland, a
Norwegian harmonium player and organist, who is also a lecturer in
ethnomusicology at the University of Bergen. Despite his background in church
music and West Norwegian folk music, Apeland is best known internationally as
an improviser with projects such as 1982 and Nils Okland Band. Someone with
experience in interweaving different musical worlds in a contemporary
context. The unusual combination of a piano trio with harmonium translates
into a surprising sound image with an almost sacred character |

Finnish multi instrumentalist
Jaakko Eino Kalevi & Norwegian producer Han Sotofett (aka DJ Sotofett)
teamed up with Estonian drummer Andres Loo on the 'Jazzsomdub' album for a
wide & improvised excursion within a narrow world of drums, percussion,
saxophone, flutes, electric piano, monophonic synths and tape delays. Besides
distinctively exploring Loo and Kalevi's batterie & percussion work with
deep-listening quality drum mixes there are elements of impulsive beauty,
particularly on ''Essens'' free carrying sax solo. The album partly reaches
for well known directions of jazz in the vain of the cosmic, psychedelic,
improvised, atonal and spiritual, but the particularness lies within the
rhythm & mix ? like a rubber band stretched in 4 dimensions |
