The
Jamaican dancehall artist known as John Wayne was born Norval Headley in 1962
in rural St Elizabeth. He first reached the studio in the early 1980s,
recording "Racket Girls In Jackets" for the Root Out label, where
you can already hear the fearsome skill unleashed by Wayne at the microphone,
showing why he was a favourite of top-ranking sound systems such as Black
Scorpio, Kilimanjaro, Jammy's and Studio Mix. In 1983 he travelled to New
York, appearing on a 12-inch of Sugar Minott's "Jamming In The
Street," while the Hoo-Kim brothers paired him with Johnny Slaughter for
"Rain Fall, Sun Shine." That same year, Bunny triker' Lee produced his only album, titled
Boogie Down and issued by Vista Sounds in the UK. Because Striker had access
to such killer rhythms, the album is a real treat. Opening track
"Jailhouse" rides a slow "Queen Of The Minstrel" recut,
patterned similar to Welton Irie's "Army Life", the aptly-named
"Heavy Rhythm" recounts his skill at rhyming, "African
Princess" praises black women over a sparse recut of "No More Will
I Roam," "Bend Your Back" speaks of various aspects of ghetto
life |

There’s
no need to say thousands of words about Beroshima: Ulrich Schnauss earned
worldwide respect for his electronica works while Frank Muller joined
different projects as a producer and put his focus on his live performance
and DJ works. This Year we celebrate the 27th Anniversary of the Beroshima
Project. In the 90s Beroshima was one of the top Protagonists of our scene,
one of the German Techno Exports to the World and even today their drive is
enormous. Thus the 6th album “Real To Reel” is now ready to rumble again.
After it was lost on a very dishonest Label from Frankfurt we took it back to
MULLER RECORDS where it should have been released in first place anyway. The
same-named title track is the perfect opening track with many strings and a
lot of hard beats - just as we know it from Beroshima. While “A New Citizen”
comes along quite deep, yet tidy pressure builds to the high speed, “Detroit
Tragedy” is a tribute to the sound of America. “Hexaline” is almost a Trance
track and “Unter Den Linden” has something very unique to itself as well.
Maybe Beroshima’s favorite place in Berlin? Typical Beroshima sound is also
available in “I Was Waiting For You” in form of plentiful beats and lots of
effects, but also “Leytonstep” plays with plenty of hypnotic sounds |

Satan's
Rats formed in Evesham, Worcestershire in January 1977, with an average age
of just seventeen. Songs like the anthemic 'Year Of The Rats' about the
demise of the old fart groups, their appearance at the Birmingham Punk
Festival and support to the Sex Pistols at the Roxy soon saw the band build a
large following and inevitably drew them to the attention of record labels.
Their first demo earned them a deal with DJM Records. Hardly a punk label,
home to Elton John and the enigmatic Rikki Sylvan who produced their first
two singles. The first single 'In My Love For You' was released in 1977. Bob
Geldof reviewed in the NME and slagged it off. The second single 'Year Of The
Rats' released early in 1978 fared no better, sinking without a trace. For their
third single 'You Make Me Sick' they had Vic Maile (Dr Feelgood/Fruit Eating
Bears) as producer. He managed to capture the anger of the band perfectly and
this single, released in 1978 was undoubtedly their finest moment. Julie
Burchill reviewed it in the NME, she hated it. Later that year Paul Rencher
quit, the band recruited vocalist Wendy Wu, changed their name to The Photos,
signed to Epic and had a hit album. All three Satan's Rats singles are highly
prized collectors' items and have been heavily bootlegged on punk
compilations, one series even naming itself 'Year Of The Rats'. 'What A Bunch
Of Rodents' is a vinyl compilation of their singles and six studio recordings
unreleased at the time and contains an insert with sleeve notes from Steve Eagles
and photos and memorabilia |

The Sewergrooves play a brand of
soulful rock, that is quite unique in the contemporary musical landscape. 15

scandinavian Rockscene decided to move into stadium-territory and rock the
masses, the Sewergrooves took the opposite direction and found their refuge

Overkill remain, but that-s not all. When it comes to the Sewergrooves, you
also need to take into account the more delicate sides of Roky Erickson and

Leroy
Smart the self-proclaimed ‘Don’, carries much respect in the Jamaican musical
community. His attacking vocal style gives his lyrics and tunes that extra
meaningfulness. Born in Jamaica and orphaned as a young child, Leroy was sent
to Maxfield Park children's home and educated at the famed Alpha Boys School.
The school was run by nuns who encouraged musical talent and would provide
the world with the cream of Jamaica’s artistic talent. Such legends as Don
Drummond, Tommy McCook, Johnny’ Dizzy’ Moore, to name but a few, all learnt
their musical trade in this strict environment. Leroy worked with many
Jamaican producers, but seemed to find his feet working with Bunny ’Striker’
Lee. With whom he cut many of his greatest tunes. It is from this period that
we have compiled this album. Featuring lost to now dubs to many of his
classic tunes, like ' Wreck up my Life’, featured here as ’Dub Wrecker’. ’God
Helps the Man’ Help yourself to Dub, Pride and Ambition [If I should Dub].
Fittest of the Fittest [Dub for the Fittest] and the title track of this
selection his self-affirming Mr Smart [Mr Smart in Dub]. These work alongside
less known cuts that he also puts his musical stamp on .’No Love’ [No Love In
Dub]. which sees him working over the ‘Zion Gate’ rhythm, made famous by Mr
Horace Andy. The ‘My Conversation’ rhythm originally cut by Slim Smith but
made into Leroy’s own ‘Jah Jah Forgive them’ [For They Know What They Dub] |

black power. Black Is provides a vibey lo-fi flute jazz meditation in their
Themes and Variation while The Supa Lowery Brothers provide the requisite
hard modal freedom funk. Peace Chant is the center of the mandala,
representing the nucleus of the post-bop, modal jazz, avant-garde,
transcendental, spiritual, ethnic, and freedom music universe without

piece that among its many treasures also features the 17-year-old
visionary-saxophonist-to-be, Steve Coleman in his alleged first recording!
The contributions of Brother Yusuf Salim and Bus Brown, figures who should be
very familiar to Tramp Records aficionados, are consecrated here with a live
recording of Freedom from one of Brother Yu's last public performances. One
of the two European contributions to the comp, Attitude, by Organic Pulse
'onesemble', reads like a double entendre, the word "attitude"
meaning simultaneously one's disposition or state of mind, and also one's
orientation relative to the horizon. The Peace Chant series continues to
touch all the sacred meridians: more devotional music with James Scales &
All Stars' Ser-Vi-Tude, trance music of non-dominant traditions with Donn
Preston Group's Ghana-Cha!, a modal and blue organ trio offering from Tommy
Jones, and closing with a rich and righteous ballad, Quernemoen, from the

Miles, the synth duo made up of Dieter Mauson (Hamburg, Germany) and
Cristóbal Rawlins (Santiago, Chile), two long-standing artists of the
underground scenes of their respective countries. The name of the project,
7697 Miles by Dieter Mauson and Cristóbal Rawlins, alludes to the distance
that separates both geographical places. Mauson started in the 80s with
various industrial and minimal synth projects. He currently performs as a
solo artist under the name of Occupied Head. For his part, Rawlins, under the
alias of Raw C, has become one of the fundamental names in the most
innovative techno scene in Chile. "Iskay" (which in Quechua means
"two") was recorded during a tour that the duo made in Peru,
inspired by the Andean culture and its ancient traditions. The pieces that
make up "Iskay" were composed using a wide variety of synthesizers
and follow the lessons left by German electronic music from groups such as
Kraftwerk and the Berlin school. But they are also open to ambient
experimentations and echoes of techno culture, resulting in pieces that cover
a whole tradition of electronic music, in a true hypnotic excursion for those
who enjoy electronic sounds as a journey to new territories of sound and
psyche |

is the first solo artist album in six years from Norfolk synthesizer
specialist Luke Abbott: a strikingly direct and assured return to the solo

compensate them from whats not. Deetron is using that quality to lighten the
load. His return to Running Back is dedicated to the art of „ego raving“.
Unlike now, where dance floor prohibition seems to be inevitable, the title
stems back to a time when him being underage and not a ravaging pandemic
prevented Deetron from going out. Instead, him and his friends turned their
respective bedrooms into party zones. Consisting of five tracks in
alphanumerical order, the Swiss master craftsman distills his own personal
history of house and techno into a record that is in equal parts mature,

Originally written and released
by Woody Guthrie in 1947, this cover version of Pastures Of Plenty by Pete
Tevis – a Californian folk singer living in Rome in 1962 – was arranged by
Ennio Morricone. A few years later, Sergio Leone wanted Morricone to score
his up and coming western called A Fistful Of Dollars. Legend has it
Morricone wrote some music, Leone hated it. Morricone then played him this
old single. Leone wanted this music but with a new melody over the top. The
rest is film music history. This is the first ever repress of this hugely
important single since 1962. Originals copies are mythical to say the least |

East duo Forriner are back with their third and final instalment in the
samurai trilogy on their eponymous 'Forriner Music' imprint. Following a
couple of impressive showings with previous EP's 'Condor' and 'In the B' they
return for their hattrick with '17:17 Neon'. A four tracker of experimental
club music for powerful dance floor experiences that offers two originals as
well as a banger from Bird Of Paradise and a mouthful of mathematics from
Legget and Suade for the remixes. First up, 'The Jungle Is Deep' which
immediately sets off at a rate of knots! Its sharp pace is tempered by the
sound of the drums: dull kick, wooly clap, rattling hi-hats while its
bassline bleeds in slowly as a dark repeating tone and subtle chord swell and
a haunting, cautious vocal reminds you that 'The jungle is dark and deep'.
The second half of the track balances its steamrolling kick with an
intricate, hypnotic lead as a growling synth line shuffles and recombines
over its rumpled techno groove. It's feeling is transportive, the kind of
music that makes you close your eyes on the dance floor. Fellow Northeast

The
Squirrels are back. Their second platter comes courtesy of KIT 'N C.L.A.W.S.
(say it out loud), the cheekily-named collaborative project from Squirrels On
Film co-founder Brian Hock and veteran San Francisco producer Kit Clayton,
and just like the label's first record, it's a woozy, wobbly trip designed
for dancefloors drifting between dimensions. Savvy techno heads will
recognize Kit Clayton's name from his decades of experience at the
avant-garde of electronic music. In the late '90s, he and partners Tang Tran
and Juan Mendez (now better known as Silent Servant) launched Cytrax, a
groundbreaking minimal techno label that paved the way for the clicks 'n cuts
sound of the early aughts. His debut album — Nek Sanalet, first released in
1999 on Stefan Betke's seminal label ~scape and reissued in 2015 — remains
one of dub techno's most enduring documents. Meanwhile, Brian Hock moonlights
as the drummer for deranged Bay Area post-punk outfit Bronze while recording
murky electro-techno excursions as C.L.A.W.S. Together as Kit 'n C.L.A.W.S.,
Clayton and Hock's sound signatures merge seamlessly |

The
Broken Glass is a work conceived and produced between Austria and Spain and
represents the eleventh reference of the catalogue of Sto¨rung Label. In this
collaboration field recordings and synthesis processed by Asfe´rico create
cyclical and hypnotic structures, which Mia Zabelka furnishes with her violin
and voice. The LP version consists of two versions of the piece, the first
more minimalist and conceptual and the second more rhythmical and synthesizer
based. Through a display of distorted and isolated sounds, we are driven in
the first version into an deep listening, as if sounds where placed under a
microscope or we were contemplating them through a telescope. This approach
lets us perceive the bare physicality of sounds in a way which enables us to
grasp subtleties and aspects of sound which we are not used to. The second
version continues where the first version left us, but in this piece, we are
eventually flooded by hypnotic loops, white noise and synthesis and the
experience has a different flavor |

Copenhagen-based
trio Silent Riders recently wowed us with their immersive neo-gothic full
length album debut on Music For Dreams. Now they are back with a remixed
package aimed directly for the darkest of dancefloors. Together with some top
notch remixers, they are re-visiting their stand out track "I See
You" as well as "Shadows", another cut off their self-titled
album. First off legendary producer Dennis Bovell lends some of his charms
and works "I See You" into a wacky dubbed out groover, skillfully
edited down by Mancunian Andi Hanley. No stranger to the flavours of new
wave, having produced bands like Saada Bonaire, The Slits and Orange Juice,
Bovell brilliantly fuses his dub science with the raw mood of the Riders.
Upping the tempo considerably, NYC duo Bryan Mette and Justin Strauss (yes,
THAT Justin Strauss!) don their Whatever/Whatever mantle to flesh out the
original into a much more hungry club creature, agile and warmer yet with
that air of New York cool that really hits you on all levels. Label boss
Kenneth Bager himself sits down with the trio to rework the material into a
dark brooding extended mix that could easily fit the soundtrack of a John
Carpenter flick. Fresh on the scene is HLLW (pronounced 'hollow') who churns
out an organic drum'n'bass banger with eerie layers of odd vocal echoes and a
gurgling bass rumble |
