Print released its catalog last year with a first installment in which the
label already revealed part of its artistic interests with a commitment to
the various interpretations that a genre as loose as techno can have, and
always, within a context in which it rewards coherence and originality above
all else. This freedom to execute and develop different scenarios, and that
at the same time they can coexist and harmonize, joins the priority that the
platform gives to the physical format, to the vinyl record. Mike Humphries
takes over from Stanislav Tolkachev, The Transhumans and Dan Böhler, creators
of the first Archaic Print reference. However, unlike this first release,
Humphries is the sole author of the four tracks of this EP and therefore, we
owe him the musical plurality of this second installment. With In Between
Reality, Mike Humphries gives a great example of baggage and the great
creative work that has accompanied him during these 3 decades. This album
exhibits a sound retrospection that can place the listener in different
locations and times. Space-time is situated at four different points |

The Outer Circle is back with the
next stop of the journey. Showcasing their signature sound across 4
heavyweight cuts from Glasgow based Craig Hamilton and Gourlay. As the needle
hits the groove "Back and Forth" the first of two solo offerings
from Craig Hamilton sets the pace. Acidic tones cut through underpinned by a
deep rumbling sub bass and intertwine with slick spoken word elements. We
continue with "Vibe", a deep dubby underground workout. Sustained
atmospheric pads build over a rounded bass with key stabs peppered throughout
alongside female vocal samples. Gourlay hops aboard for the flip side with
"Higher Nature" the first of two tracks alongside Hamilton. A thick
sub bass roams amongst arpeggiated 303 tones with fender Rhodes keys
scattered throughout. The EP rounds off with "Screw Loose"
mesmerising pads drift amidst a rolling bassline, haunting chords and brassy
stabs between heavy kicks and rhythmic grooves |

The great Texas bluesman
Lightnin' Hopkins (1912-1982) recorded these fabulous tracks for Aladdin in
Los Angeles and Houston between 1946 & 1948. These early performances are
considered as seminal works not only for Hopkins's career but also for the whole
history of country Blues. Here Lightnin' is mostly alone with his guitar,
except on some tracks where he is joined by pianist Wilson
"Thunder" Smith or some unknown drummer. Hopkins's intense guitar
and deep voice and lyrics are at the very center of this unprecedented music.

and percussionist Willie Rosario was a giant of Latin music, known as Senor
Afinque or Mr. Tight for the strength of his musical arrangements. Born in
Coamo in 1930, Rosario had already formed the Coamex band, prior to his
emigration to New York in 1947, where he played in various orchestras,
forming his own band in Spanish Harlem in 1959 and also presenting a
Spanish-language music show on radio station WADO. Signing to Alegre in 1962,
he began touring widely, the label issuing this sought-after debut in 1963,
mixing covers and original, the hot salsa here features the dulcet tones of

Gail Laughton, born Denzil Gail
Laughton (1921-1985), was an American jazz harpist. He worked in Hollywood,
playing on many film and cartoon soundtracks. Originally released in 1969 on
the small imprint Rapture the record has been produced by famous sound
engineer Paul Beaver (Beaver & Krause, Lalo Schifrin & Orchestra) the
man who introduced the moog to Stevie Wonder and Frank Zappa. Standing on the
verge of both modern classical and space age, the record featured the track
'Pompeii 76 A.D.' as heard on the movie Blade Runner. Gail Laughton can
easily be considered a forerunner of new age, as documented on the highly
influential compilation 'I Am The Center, Private Issue New Age Music In
America, 1950-1990' assembled by project manager Patrick McCarthy for Seattle
based Light In The Attic. 'The shimmering, ethereal quality of the harp sings

First
time vinyl reissue since the original 1980 version. Original remastered album
plus second LP with unreleased extra tracks from 'Some Deaths Take Forever'
recording sessions. Recording an album about the feelings of two prisoners
waiting on death row. As a statement against capital punishment. It was (and
even still is nowadays) a delicate and ambitious plan. Bernard Szajner did
it, in 1980, after watching an Amnesty International documentary. And stakes
were high: at that point in his life Szajner has spent the majority of the
70's doing light and visuals for bands as Magma, Gong, Pink Floyd and The
Who. In the meantime he created his own instrument, the 'Syringe', aka the
first laser harp, and made his debut as a musician under the Z moniker with
'Visions of Dune'. When listening to 'Some Deaths Take Forever' in 2020 it's
hard to believe it was recorded already four decades ago: the melancholic
piano theme and the metallic synth riffs of opener 'Welcome to Death Row' set
the tone for a mind blowing audio journey which at one moment echoes the vibe
of early 80's gloom funk and derailed krautrock drenching into pulsating
proto Detroit techno and on the other hand sounds like the blueprint for a
futuristic electronic music scene in the years to come. The influence and the
impact of 'Some Deaths Take Forever' is also still vibrating: Carl Craig
mentioned it as his all time favorite album in Future Mag, the signature
sound of Oneohtrix Point Never feels almost like a not so hidden tribute and
the killer sci fi electronics of tracks 'Ressurector' or 'A Kind Of Freedom'

is the new instalment of Soul Jazz Records' ground-breaking Deutsche
Elektronische Musik series, 'a near-definitive guide to some of the world's
most extraordinary music' (The Guardian). This new Soul Jazz release features
many of the classic German electronic and Krautrock groups from the 1970s
& 80s - including Can, Amon Düül II, Harmonia, Conrad Schnitzler,
Agitation Free, Roedelius - as well as a host of lesser known artists such as
Dzyan, Klaus Weiss, Gruppe Between and many more. Deutsche Elektronische
rarities unearthed on the album include Kalacakra (whose fan-base included
the great Moondog!) and their superb 'Nearby Shiras,' taken from their
super-rare spiritual/psychedelic private press concept album Crawling to
Lhasa, from 1972. Deutsche Elektronische 4 includes a wealth of German
electronic experimental artists - the seminal pioneering group Harmonia
(Roedelius, Moebius and Michael Rother), avant-garde guru Conrad Schnitzler
as well as lesser known synthetic artists such as Klaus Weiss, Deutsche
Wertarbeit, E.M.A.K. (Elektronische Musik Aus Köln), Günter Schickert and
others. Finally, the album also features an array of heavy and progressive
German cosmic rock groups - Dzyan, Virus and the amazing Turkish/German

The
Cribs are back and on blistering form, brandishing their brand-new eighth
album, ‘Night Network’. Due to be released via Sonic Blew/PIAS, the
self-produced 12-track album was recorded at the Foo Fighters’ Studio 606 in
Los Angeles in the spring/summer of 2019. Having released their Steve
Albini-engineered album, ‘24-7 Rock Star Shit’ - their fourth consecutive UK
Top 10 album - in August 2017, the multiple Q and NME Award-winning band
almost immediately parted company with their long time UK management and
found themselves stuck in what Gary describes as a “legal morass,” unable to
record or release new music, so touring wasn’t an option either. That meant
18 months of fallow - heart-breaking stuff for a band who’ve known nothing
else in their adult lives. “At one point we were actually so disillusioned
with what had happened, we didn’t even know if we wanted to get back into the
band anymore,” says Ryan. Fast forward three years and ‘Night Network’ is as
fresh, cathartic and vital as anything they’ve ever put out. There’s no
weariness, no bitterness, just a clear desire to get back to doing what they
do best - that unique blend of bittersweet melody, brutal lyrical honesty and
riffs for days. The turning point came at the 11th hour, in the late summer
of 2018. The Cribs had been invited to support Foo Fighters at Manchester's
Etihad Stadium, in what could very well have been the band's last hurrah |

Soul
icon Otis Redding made immeasurable contributions to the form. As a
singer-songwriter, producer, arranger and talent scout, Redding was
responsible for some of the music's biggest and most lasting hits during the
1960s, though his death in an airplane crash in 1967 brought his life and
career to a tragically premature end. He was born Otis Redding Junior in 1941
in the small town of Dawson, Georgia, the son of a sharecropper and preacher,
and moved to the city of Macon at the age of two, where he learned to sing at
the Vineville Baptist Church. After singing in the high school band, he
performed weekly gospel songs on radio station WIBB, winning local talent
contests after being inspired by Little Richard and Sam Cooke. Since his
father became ill with tuberculosis, Redding began supporting the family at
the age of 15, working as a gas station attendant, a digger of water wells,
and occasionally by playing piano with pianist Gladys Williams at the
Hillview Springs Social Club. Then, in 1958, Redding had a repeat prize run
at a talent contest held by broadcaster Hamp Swain, bringing him first into a
group called Pat T Cake and the Mighty Panthers, and later into Little
Richard's band (during a time when Richard switched rock and roll for gospel) |

Reggae
music in many ways reminds us of America’s Motown records. The music comes
out of its stable fast and furious we tend to know the songs, the artists,
the studio but who? are the players. The unsung heroes that in many cases,
cut most of our favourite tracks One such band this applies to in the Reggae
field is the Soul Syndicate Band. Each Jamaican record producer would have
their favourite set of musicians they would use, availability permitting.
Although several musicians crossed over into different named bands. For
example, a set of players working with Producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee would go
under the guise of The Aggrovators. The same group working with Producer Joe
Gibbs would work under the name The Professionals. Soul Syndicate were the
band of choice for Producer Niney the Observer, who used them for his own
recordings and when you put that aside the other artists Niney produced,
Dennis Brown, Max Romeo, Michael Rose, I Roy, The Ethiopians, Barry Brown,
Gregory Issacs and Freddie McGregor.
To name a few and not necessary all, you begin to see the amount of
material this set of musicians played on. Built around the rhythm section of
Calton 'Santa' Davis and George 'Fully' Fullwood, drums and bass respectfully.
They were usually accompanied by Earl 'Chinna' Smith, Tony Chin on guitars,
Keith Sterling, Gladstone 'Gladdy' Anderstone, Bernard 'Touter' Harvey,
organ/keyboards and Noel 'Skully' Simms, percussion. Niney's tracks tended to
be rhythm heavy and thus Sound System favourites.But when brass was
needed/called for ,this was provided by the likes of Tommy McCook, Bobby
Ellis, Felix ' Deadley Headley' Bennett. Niney not having a studio of his own
at the time used most of Kingston's studios, again availability and money
providing. But most of these cuts selected for this release were cut at
Channel 1 and a few exceptions at Randy's Studio 17 and at Joe Gibbs studio
at Burns Avenue. Niney also worked closely with King Tubby on his dub plates,
so tracks after the recording sessions were taken to King Tubbys for
reconstruction and sometimes re-voicing over an existing rhythm. These were
then used as version sides to the vocal cuts, but most importantly used to
nice up the dances, being played out on King Tubbys Hometown Hi-Fi Sound
System. We have pulled together a selection of such dub plate specials cut by
the Soul Syndicate band for this release. Dub sides that emphasise how well
the band worked together, and with Niney at the reigns and the added bonus of
some Tubby magic sprinkled on top. Please see our Niney the Observer at King

It
is 1983 and you’ve just stepped into your Ford Capri with your girlfriend
Julie. You live in Harlow, but in your head you’re really somewhere near
Salou in Spain, next to your yacht. But the thing you really love is soul and
they play nothing but at Sups in Loughton. OK, so It’s not 1983 at all. It’s
2014, but listening to this electrofied soul, will put you back in the zone.
Tom Findlay, one half of Grammy-nominated Groove Armada, has put this
collection together: a stamp of authenticity in itself. Tom has also put a
few of these through the edit wringer, reworking many of the tunes for
maximum towelling sockability. You’ll probably recognise a few tunes. There’s
Mtume’s incredible ‘Juicy Fruit’, still sounding advanced and modern, while
‘I Specialize In Love, mixed by disco legend Tee Scott, is even older yet
sounds equally perky. The 1980s was a period that was pretty much owned by
Minneapolis thanks to Prince and former cohorts Jam & Lewis and the
latter weigh in with a pair of killer productions, Thelma Houston’s ‘You Used
To Hold Me So Tight’ and Alexander O’Neal’s ‘What’s Missing’. And since this
is Late Night Tales, there is always our exclusive cover version, this time
done by Findlay and Tim Hutton’s Sugardaddy, who’ve delivered an ace version
of ‘Don’t Look Any Further’. Grab yourself a bar stool, order a cocktail,
take a sip and make believe you’re lying on a shagpile carpet with the soul

compiled Late Night Tales Music For Pleasure, is based very much on a sound.
It's a sound that I feel has been overlooked: 80s R&B-infused music, with
drum machines, synths and invariably brilliant vocals. It’s formed the
bedrock of my rare groove sets for all the years I’ve played. It’s not the
most fashionable, but to me it’s the perfect marriage of technology and soul,
hence the title for this album, Automatic Soul. There are plenty of songs I
could have included, and no doubt some that I shouldn’t, but I’ve tried to represent
what’s best to me from this era. It’s not a classic Late Night Tales. It’s a
pretty personal journey, which I hope some of you might be willing to share…

‘Worldwide Ravers EP’. Deeply infused with the unmistakable sound of the UK,
Nasa draws from his broad range of influences for his EP, distilling elements
of Jungle, Rave, and Hardcore into his own brand of meticulously crafted,
difficult-to-pigeonhole techno. Opener ‘Dubska’, clocking in at over ten
minutes long, is a relentless and fast-paced affair, bubbling along at
breakneck speed with the help of classic vocal samples, while ‘World Dance
(Rinse Out Mix)’ fuses breakbeats and droning bass to create a high energy

Basic Rhythm returns to Sneaker
Social Club with new EP "I Don't Know What I Would Do". A side
opener, What I Would Do, starts with a stepping percussive melody line and
sampled vocal before dropping into a 4/4 stomp and warm bassline, drawing upon

the second vinyl release of its new record label venture, Gegen showcases two
staples of the Berlin club scene. On the A-side, Berghain regular DJ,
acclaimed producer and multi-label founder Oliver Deutschmann brings his
signature sound of hyp-notic “8-AM-on-a-Sunday” big room techno. “Wach”
(awake in Ger-man) has the kind of sound that builds on layers upon layers of
skill-fully designed drums. On the B-side with “Roadkill”, Gegen’s own
residents La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard come up with a moody track
carrying a weird combination of gritty and dirty synths with spacious sound
design that make you wonder if you didn’t get thrown off the side of the
Milky Way by a boisterous clunky spacecraft on its last leg. On remix duty,
Gegen is playing with its Italian roots in its choice of two newcomers:
Mar/us and WarinD. Making his producer debut with this remix, Mar/us, another
Gegen res-ident, is coming-in strong with a harmonic tear-jerker full of pads
ooz-ing with 90’s influences and whose melancholy is balanced out by a
martial groove |

Chicago House pioneer Boo Williams delivers stand out genre melding EP on
Italian record label, NICEPEOPLE. The three track EP meanders through
elements of house and techno with real depth. This is the “LOL” EP, landing
January 2021 on vinyl, and you can happily say this one fully lives up to its
expectations. The title track “LOL” chugs along with pure energy of sounds of
the past, twisting beeps and bleeps whirring throughout. The shuffling drums
make this one, brushing by as they continue to drive the opener. The clue is
in the title here as Williams uses trippy samples of laughter which flash in
and out throughout the duration. Next on the agenda is “Backwards Run”, a
blissful deep and emotive encounter with Boo doing what he does best. Trickling
synths and pads meander around a clean cut house arrangement, voices circle
around the belly of the track making this another hypnotic outing. Elastic
bass creates a sense of urgency in “Bangin Out”, the last of the EP which
takes up the whole of the B-side. A real abrupt and direct track, the kind
that leaves the crowd in a trance when utilised in the right moment, creating
suspense in the club room before elevating to the next track |

Entries is pleased to announce a deluxe reissue of Sexual Harrassment’s 1983
opus I Need A Freak. Lynn Tolliver, DJ/Program Director at Cleveland’s WZAK,
adopted the pseudonym David Payton in order to keep his musical endeavors
separate from his public persona. Sexual Harrassment (misspelled
deliberately) was formed as a concept band, with members selected based on
appearance and choreographic skill rather than musical ability. Tolliver’s
explicit lyrics focused on the central themes of desire and sexual relations.
Working at a studio in Akron, he recorded an album of quirky-yet-lurid
electro funk, which was released on Heat Records. Tolliver remarks, “I
learned as a youngster, sex sells! The things that are rated the worst –
violence, horror and sex – are the things people want to see or hear about.”
I Need a Freak was a surprise hit, selling over 100,000 copies. I Need A
Freak is presented here for the first time on double LP, pressed at 45 rpm
for maximum DJ-friendliness. While the album’s naughtier moments seem quaint
by contemporary standards, the fusion of lo-fi funk and disaffected vocals
still stuns today. On the eternal electro-raunch anthem “I Need a Freak”,
minimalism serves to highlight the lasciviousness of the deadpan lyrics,
which were inspired by Lourdes Figueroa, Tolliver’s girlfriend at the time.
Tolliver’s whimsy shines on tracks like “If I Gave You a Party” and
“K.I.S.S.I.N.G.”, which contrast nursery rhyme structures with decidedly
R-rated lyrics |

Lapiana continues to offer up deep musical escape from these troubling times
with another expertly crafted techno EP, Cantamen, on his own Attic Music
label. It features four of his own original cuts and builds on the success of
his latest release, Collective Chaos, back in March. For more than a decade,
this Italian artist has been at the forefront of a techno scene that deals in
deep and rolling drums, well sculpted synths and cavernous grooves that are
rich in ambient detail. His Attic Music label has been at the centre of that
thanks to careful A&R and always innovative releases, while he has also
released on cult imprints such as M_Rec Ltd, ARTS, Figure Jams and Out-Er and
many other collaborations. Sleek opener 'Demons' is a mind melting and
widescreen deep techno groove. Groaning synths creep across the face of the
track as all manner of earthy and organic motifs drift by, as if you're
racing through an underground network of caves. It's music for the mind as
well as the body, and the hugely atmospheric 'Cantamen' is just the same -
fizzing synth details and alien life forms fill the airwave with tension as
the smooth and supple kick drums pound away down below |

series for its label and its named the Exposure Series! We are happy to say

debut this new endeavour we have a four track compilation called
"Radiant Energy". Marco Cassanelli is the first artist and his
track 'Camden Town' has a pure classic dub techno sound to it. Long delayed
chords lull you into a peaceful mid-set trance while the beat is sure to move
your body. Sibling's 'Valhalla' rises from the depths with a fantastic
bassline and metallic spheres drenched in echo. A heady and busy track that

which is an expression of his deep interpretation of techno. The label aims
to provide an eclectic vision of dance music which reaches deep within the

001 sees a 4-track EP released January 2021 on vinyl/digital containing 3
originals by Blazej himself & a remix by Oscar Mulero. The first release
Inner Tension 001 called 'Katharsis' signifies the birth of the label and its
sound & direction. Katharsis (from Greek Katharsis, meaning
"purification" or "cleansing" or
"clarification") is the purification and purgation of emotions --
through art or any extreme change in emotion that results in renewal and
restoration. The 4-track EP contains 3 originals by Blazej himself &

welcomes fellow Swedish artist Billie Jo onto its roster for the labels
seventh release. Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Billie Jo is a DJ and
producer with material on the likes of Spencer Parker's Work Them Records and
Vincent Neumann's Unitas Multiplex. The past few years have seen Billie Jo
steadily making her mark on the Stockholm underground scene and here we see
the release of her third EP to date via DJ Lily and Sailor Juul's LILIES
imprint. "Dubbla Slag" leads with thunderous kicks, jolting
percussive chimes and Jo's own hypnotic vocal chants ebbing and flowing
amongst crunchy drums and a pulsating low- end drive "Du far mitt hjarta
att sla dubbla slag" - You make my heart skip a beat. "Faller'
follows next, embracing a similarly raw aesthetic courtesy of a gritty,
dynamically evolving rhythm and intricately processed vocal murmurs, once
again from Billie, uttering "Jag faller - sa fanga mig" - "I'm
falling - so catch me". On the flip-side label bosses Sailor Juul and DJ
Lily deliver their "Wellness Remix", embracing a more menacing feel
with heavily distorted bass tones, driving drums and the original vocal line
throughout. DJ Lily then goes solo for his take on 'Faller", again
adding an even more vigorous feel to things via rave tinged drum breaks,
distorted bass stabs and vacillating vocal tones |

know it. You know it. Alignment is here to stay. Delivering the next round of
high quality tracks on vinyl for VN043, his "Orderly Chaos" EP
mirrors our suspicious times like nothing else but techno can. With its main
title "Orderly Chaos" consisting of well balanced leads chasing a
never ending drum programming, the consistent kick drum does what its used to
do: thumping your already vibrating stomach. An early classic already, with a
reasoned arrangement attached. We're about to enter quicker territories on A2
by the name of "Future Dancefloor". Clearly focused on satisfying
the biggest sound systems around, once possible again. For the time being, a
forward moving rhythm infiltrates small vocal hits on this one, piercing the
perfect state of rave. "Into The Unknown" follows this mantra
perfectly. Detailed synth placements evolve a steadily riding hi-hat shuffle,
incorporating the flowing drumming which comes with it. On top of it,
energising pad lines do their thing in catching us during a perfect
breakdown. Second b-side flip is "Dark Space", with the name saying

Montreal
duo Biochip return to Central Processing Unit with their new LP Crux Alley.
The pair of Melissa Speirs and Julian Kochanowski turned plenty of heads when
they first rocked up on the Sheffield label back in 2019 with debut drop
Synthase. Synthase found Biochip twisting up Braindance, IDM and electro to
their own ends, and Crux Alley is an album which hits similar sonic
sweet-spots. It's clear from the off that Biochip have brought their A-game
here. Opener 'Mind Bubbles' has no time for pleasantries, dropping the
listener straight into a nocturnal IDM-electro groove where bass dances
nervily around shadowy synth pads. 'Mind Bubbles' is followed-up 'Polymorphic
State', a tune whose laser-gun synth-bass plumbs even more energy into the
pair's Rephlex-indebted sound. It's a hugely arresting way to begin an album,
and the bold sonics here align Crux Alley with recent CPU releases like Bit
Folder's Silicon Frontier and Annie Hall's Fum. Other tracks on Crux Alley
ease up on the frenzied feel of those opening numbers. Take 'Orbital
Rendezvous', a cut which is still full of zippy melodies and keening
keyboards but whose contemplative strut recalls the legendary electronic
music duo referenced in the track's title |

Radio Records, an independent techno label based in Scotland. Mickey Nox is a
techno enthusiast, label owner, DJ and producer from Melbourne, Australia.
His impressively unique style and attitude towards his constantly evolving
productions and DJ sets is dark, menacing, and always maniacally exhilarating
as he becomes progressively more entangled within his heavy hitting hardware.
This 2 x 12” vinyl has five original tracks and three insane remixes from a
trinity of head bangers. Not only are all the original tracks on this release

/ R&S are delighted to welcome back The Primitive Painter, aka the duo of
Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke for a timely reissue of their 1994 lost
classic self-titled album of sonorous IDM. Growing up in Frankfurt, in the
80s and 90s the duo met at an indie rock club in their home town of
Darmstadt, bonding over their shared obsession with the first wave of acid,
Chicago house and early Detroit techno as well as their patronage of now
iconic Frankfurt club nights like The Omen or Dorian Gray or the infamous
Delirium Record shop run by scene stalwarts Ata (Robert Johnson) and Heiko
MSO (Playhouse). Taking inspiration from the likes of The Black Dog and
Transmat as well as seminal compilations such as Planet E’s Intergalactic
Beats and Warp’s Artificial intelligence compilation the duo honed their
inventive take on the Detroit techno blueprint under the monicker Acid Jesus,
debuting on their freshly minted Klang Elektronik label. The label was
started in conjunction with Ata and Heiko after Fluegel & Wuttke (regular
patrons of the Delirium store) pressed a demo on them, muttering the immortal
line; “Please listen to the tape, we are big Mr. Fingers fans.” Through the
mid ’90s the project flourished giving rise to a classic album and a brace of
singles that number amongst the best of the era’s techno, winning them a
influential fans most notably Sven Väth, David Holmes and Andrew Weatherall
who invited them to play live at one of the legendary Sabresonic parties in
London |

Created
in Brussels in 2015, Azmari is a weaving musical odyssey that expertly fuses
ethiogroove, dub, psychfunk and eastern sounds. Taking inspiration from
artists such as Okay Temiz, Mulatu Astatke, Cymande, Fela Kuti and The
Heliocentrics, an Azmari, literally "one who praises" in Amharic,
is an Ethiopian singer-musician, comparable to the European bard or the West
African griot often accompanied with a masenqo - one-stringed fiddle or krar
- lyre, two traditional ethiopian instruments. Having released their debut EP
'Ekera' last year, a series of shows across Europe saw the Azmari sound
develop and ten days performing in Istanbul opened the band's ears to the
Turkish sounds and rhythms from the 1960s. Keen to get back in the studio to
start work on their debut album, studiously studying Turkish and Ethiopian
scales, along with learning new instruments along the way including the
berimbau, the ney and baglama, the Azmari sound transformed into a
rebellious, unrelenting and mesmerising trip. The resulting nine tracks that
make up debut album 'Sama'i', released 22nd January via Sdban UItra, is a
deeply hypnotic experience where mesmerising rhythms and winding
improvisations send the listener in to a higher state of consciousness. From
the magical sax of album opener 'Zegiyitwali', to the dubby template of
'Cosmic Masadani' and joyous horns of 'Kugler', Azmari seamlessly blend
African and oriental melodies with effortless precision, providing a fresh
take on the ethiojazz sound |
