Modular Alliance make their CE debut with the 'Stray EP' for Cultivated
Electronics Ltd (CE's vinyl-only sister label) in February. London Modular
Alliance is a collective that lies somewhere between a shop and a cult. From
their base in the former industrial warehouses of Hackney Wick, London
Modular have been designing their own cases, working out practical ways of
chaining multiple synths for live performance, selling units from their shop
front, and taking themselves on the road to run workshops and gigs. From the
lazer-lit confines of sweaty clubs to the hushed environs of Tate Britain and
the V&A, they fill spaces with the whoosh and sweep of man co-operating
with machine, bringing the dynamics of dance music to the ideals of modular synthesis,
and forcing anyone with ears to acknowledge the potency of the format once
more. With them, the sound of the future has returned. The EP includes three
intricately crafted modular Electro tracks from LMA, featuring soaring
melodies and dappled beats that manage to extract depth and soul out of

Sorcerers'
is the group's debut, when Jan Dukes de Grey were still the duo of
multi-instrumentalists Derek Noy, the band's songwriter and lead vocalist,
and Michael Bairstow. The 18 songs of the album recorded in October 1969 show
within a pure folk style the subtle use of multiple instruments like guitars,
woodwinds, brass, keyboards, and percussion. Every song conjures up its own
time and place, from the quiet pastoral delights of '28th June, Village Song'
to the urban pulse of 'City After 3.00 AM', the homage to the vast expanses
of an idealized 'Texas', and the Eastern promise of 'Turkish Time'. Moods
shift dramatically from the anger-drenched 'M.S.S.' to the medieval musings

The Pigs were a Bristol-based
punk rock band formed in 1977. In August that year they recorded an EP,
"Youthanasia", for the independent label New Bristol Records. They
were featured on bills with bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and their high/energy
live shows generated positive reviews on magazines such as Melody Maker.
Unfortunately, the chance to open for the Sex Pistols went up in smoke when
the venue mysteriously burned down the night before the gig. Nevertheless,
the EP enabled the Pigs to play at famous venues like Marquee and Roxy Club,
often supporting The Cortinas. However, disillusionment set in at the
increasingly mainstream direction of the punk movement, early in 1978, they

Beyond
their highly sought after 1978 album Festa Para Um Novo Rei - home to the
mystical jazz-funk classic ‘Vidigal’ and released on Philips’ iconic Musica
Popular Brasileira Contemporanea series (MPBC) - little is known about Marcos
Resende & Index, even to aficionados of obscure Brazilian music. Far Out
Recordings is immensely proud to present their previously unreleased
self-titled debut album from 1976, contributing a crucial missing work from
the glory days of progressive Brazilian instrumental music. Born in Cachoeiro
de Itapemirim, Brazil in 1947, Marcos Resende was a prodigious child who
learned to play the accordion at the age of two, and the piano aged six. In
spite of his immense musical potential, he travelled to Lisbon in the 60s to study
medicine. Yet continuing to explore his musical passion on the side, he
formed a trio which went on to open for Dexter Gordon at the Cascais Jazz
Festival in 1971. From here he formed the electronic oriented prog-jazz group
Status, who opened shows for the likes of Elton John, Phil Woods, Stan Getz,
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, but in spite of their relative live
success they have no known recordings. Now established as a highly regarded
keyboardist, composer, and innovative electronic musician, Resende returned
home to Brazil following Portugal’s Revolução dos Cravos in 1974. Inspired by
US jazz and British progressive rock he’d experienced while residing in
Europe, Resende went all out acquiring a keyboard arsenal to be reckoned
with, which included the Prophet 5, Yamaha CP-708 and Mini Moog |

Kingston, Jamaica. Berlin Atonal is pleased to announce the release of Mika
Vainio’s live performance at the 2016 edition of the festival. Accompanied by
the artwork from Vainio's personal archives, its soft lack of focus is
reminiscent of the natural looseness in his sound programming, lending itself
to jazz as much as any form of electronic music. Right at the tips of his
fingers, sparks fly unhindered by background noise, left to saturate in his
universe of swollen intent. This pared-down, sensitive, and serious music has
no parallel. Deep, throbbing analogue laments emanate from the outset reaching
far into the furthest fissures of Kraftwerk’s main hall, a chasmic exercise
in arching minimalism. Between crisp, upfront sonic assault and backset
rhythmic work, it morphs about the cavernous hall exploring to the core the
relationship between sound and architecture. Unrelenting and icily
atmospheric, the haptic saturation arouses a body of nerves. As ever the
scope of Vainio's poignant work is vast, with limited tools at his disposal.
Motifs are revisited and reiterated, calmly rendering confrontational and
extreme mechanisms. Feedback blasts buzz over and destroy passages,
punctuated by sparse rhythm |

between Aldous Huxley's visionary work and some biblical myths, Eyeless in
Gaza, (formed in 1980) are one of the most original and creative bands
emerging from the early 80's British post-punk scene. An intimate duo line up
featuring Martyn Bates - vocals, guitar, organ, and Peter Becker - drums,
bass, synth. 'Caught in Flux' originally released in 1981 on Cherry Red and
reissued here in its original format LP + 12" is their second album. The
result of a one-take studio session with no overdubs. A perfectly balanced
combination of various elements arising from post-punk, art rock, ambient
music, and psychedelia. This was an important step towards a form of music
where all these influences were organically integrated into a highly purified

As
Dense & Pika, Alex Jones and Chris Spero have garnered an enviable
reputation for making devastating club ordnance that finds the sweet spot
between dark, mysterious house and roaring, brawny techno. With over a decade
of material under their belt, Jones and Spero are set to release their first
studio length debut album, ‘Colour Burn’ via London major imprint BMG on 4th
December, home to the likes of Leftfield, The Prodigy, Holy Ghost and
Faithless. ‘Colour Burn’ is a 13-track composition crossing through downtempo
house and electronica, built as a conceptual sonic representation of the
pair’s live audio and visual set up. The album is a step away from harder and
faster material and a move towards a more leftfield sonic trajectory,
featuring a handful of impressive heavyweight features of Jones & Spero’s
musical heroes who have informed the Dense & Pika output. Released today,
album moment ‘Honey’ features the master of sensual, slow-burn techno,
Matthew Dear whose contribution to ‘Honey’ arrives in vocal form – a breathy,
brooding ensemble of spoken word that glues perfectly with the duo’s
trademark rough and textured sound palette. It helps turn what Alex calls “a
headsy, dusty piece of housey tech” into something sensual and otherworldly.
Dark and smouldering, it seems to the suck the air out of the room like a
tightly packed subterranean dancefloor deep in the throes of night. Glitched
out percussion and fizzling hi-hats feel caustic against the track’s low-end
frequencies. The thumping bassline and kick drum combination delivers punch
and pressure to the mix in a true Dense & Pika format |

Soul Intent delivers his second
studio album, this time on Dope Plates, the 90s influenced sub-label for his
Lossless Music imprint. "Everything And Nothing" sees Soul Intent
reach back 25 years to the sounds and vibes that soundtracked his teenage
years in the mid 90s. It was this period when he first discovered rave and
jungle through his brothers CD collection, MTV's Party Zone and Dreamscape
tape packs, which were being passed around at school. Some of the track names
refer to memories from this era including "Standard Deluxe" (a long
since defunct skate/surf clothing brand) and "Tribal Gathering" -

After
gaining widespread acclaim for its original release four years ago, Smek by
Tunisian duo Ÿuma will be reimagined with a bespoke remix package. Releasing
on Crosstown Rebels, Ricardo Villalobos, SIS and MoM will be on duty to
provide three distinctive remixes of the original. Ricardo Villalobos leads
the charge. Highlighting the signature sound with which he has become best
known, Ÿuma’s hypnotic vocals converge on stripped-back kicks whilst subtle
pads sing gently in the background. SIS’ remix comes next, blending
tribal-laced drums with gentle acoustic guitar tones as whispering hats
shimmer softly throughout, before MoM closes proceedings on a more ambient
note, retaining the original’s folk-themed essence with emotive,
slow-building percussion. Ricardo Villalobos has been at the forefront of
electronic music for over two decades. An eminent figure in the minimal
techno sphere, releases on Perlon and his own Sei Es Drum helped cement his

two tracker from Dateless. Titled Bee, the release marks the LA-based artists
debut on the label, having previously released on offshoot imprint Hottrax.
The title track takes charge with punchy four-four drum patterns and an

Hypallage
Project (Ilum) and Potomac launch their new label Avant-Propos Records with
four intricate cuts entitled ‘Avant-Propos 01’. Hypallage Project and Potomac
are a pair of producers and DJs with a residency at Spazio Tempo in Paris
where they are known for delivering six-hour long ambient and experimental
sets playing alongside the likes of Acronym, Milton Bradley, Dasha Rush and
Marco Shuttle to name a few. Hypallage Project has one previous release on
SUB Records whereas Potomac has a release on Arts And a single track on SUB.
This inaugural release displays the pairs ability to provide a deep and
transcendental musical experience through ambient and downtempo soundscapes.
Hypallage Project’s ‘Adage’ begins with murky atmospheres through enticing
pad work, raw drums and ethereal elements before ‘You’ delivers dark
modulations, captivating synth murmurs and resonating kicks. On the flip,
Potomac’s ‘Phosphore’ offers up blissful melodies balanced over crisp

Crispo instigates the launch of his new label Everybody In with an EP of low
slung House music that has inspiration and vibes from many different
backgrounds. This EP is a journey through Claudio's various inspirations
bringing together the vocal talents of Londoner Jordan James for the title
track "Lost in time". This track is in a time-honoured format of
classic analogue rhythm paired with soulful vocals and a finesse to the
synthwork which transport you to a better place. Label namesake
"Everybody In" strikes a different somewhat melodic mood. Simple

Canadian
quartet BADBADNOTGOOD take on creating the ultimate late night' selection of
tracks from their record collections, set for release on 28th July 2017. The
original trio of Matthew Tavares, Alex Sowinski and Chester Hansen formed
while studying music at Toronto's Humber College (they've recently added
Leland Whitty to the line-up). A shared appreciation of hip hop and
instrumental covers of Gucci Mane and Earl Sweatshirt suggested a worldly
outlook and reciprocated love from Tyler The Creator and Ghostface Killah,
which whom they made 2015's Sour Soul. This is an international effort: Velly
Joonas' Estonian version of 'Feel Like Makin' Love', Kiki Gyan, Admas and
Francis Bebey representing Africa (Ghana, Ethiopia and Cameroon
respectively), Les Prospection from France, Scots' Boards Of Canada and
fellow Canucks River Tiber and Charlotte Day Wilson. Finally, there's the
no-small-matter of the Late Night Tales cover version, in which BADBADNOTGOOD
take on Andy Shauf's 'To You' is turned into a mournful delight. while the
Queen Of Siam herself, Lydia Lunch, delivers a sexual sermon involving only
you, her and Jim Beam. We were really excited to have the chance to put
together a Late Night Tales compilation, it's a great organisation. We
decided to use it as a vehicle to show everyone all the amazing music we have
gotten to experience by touring and meeting new people. Every track on this
comp was either shown to us by an incredible person or made by one of our
friends. We also included a little cover of a song by one of our favourite
current musicians, Andy Shauf. These artists, as well as many, many others,
have infuenced us to create and kept our deep love of music alive. This mix

"Blue Lizzard" is the
first reggae instrumental album of its kind to come out of Jamaica since the
heyday of Channel One and Joe Gibbs- studios in the late 1970s and Rico
Rodriguez's influential "Man From Wareika". Packaged in a vintage
style with additional printed inner sleeves with all musician credts and
liner notes by Carter Van Pelt on the backside of the sleeve. Ten all new
recordings realised with a multi-generational roster of musicians
contributing to the sessions which included Dean Fraser, the late Bobby Ellis
