If
this year was a color, what shade would it be? If this year was a scent, what
would it remind us of? If two thousand twenty was a metaphor for a season...
what would the scenery look like? "Winter in America" is not a
musical answer to this question, but rather an impression that Johannes
Brecht has gained in the past months by observing the social climate and
glimpsing at the Western hemisphere. A mixture of political ice wind,
turbulent questions of faith and societal climate changes. These are also the
topics that have always connected Johannes Brecht and Fetsum, personally and
artistically. As big Gil Scott-Heron fans, the classic "Winter in
America" has almost offered itself to be reissued and contextualized.
Two very different friends, with two very different biographies, but a
complementary view forward. Next to “Winter in America”, Johannes Brecht
offers his track "Crystal", which was created almost entirely in a
C15 synthesizer. "The track was born from a live jam. I wanted to try to
create techno tracks not in a sequencer, but to play them properly and the
C15 forces you to do that.” |

Pierson’s debut solo LP is coming via San Francisco’s Electronic powerhouse
imprint Dark Entries Records and Oakland’s Ratskin Records collective.
Pierson, an Oakland-based underground legend, has pushed the boundaries of
experimental electronic music with his soul-moving opus Nerve Bumps; A Queer
Divine Dissatisfaction, an endeavor two long years in the making. On Nerve
Bumps, Pierson blends hip hop, jazz, John Carpenter-esque arpeggios,
trap/anti trap-influenced percussion, and musique concrete-informed
experiments. Futuristic synthesizers cut through layers of fog as Pierson’s
bombastic drum programming forges new worlds within themselves. Pierson tells
a complicated and inspiring story on Nerve Bumps, which is both a privilege
and a gift to experience. Tracks such as “I Slay The Pain” reiterate that
although Pierson has to live his life as a quadriplegic, this does not define
him as an artist or as a person. The cinematic “For The Angels” plays as a
masterclass in heart and body-moving rhythms and undulating synthesizers.
Pierson directly confronts the listener on “Snap”, an act of solidarity with
the disabled community. Sputtering orchestral swells become encapsulated by
splintering shards of Pierson’s voice, evoking his relentless determination
to learn new music production methods as well as share his experience with
losing certain physical abilities |

Rubber
brings it back to home ground by diving deeper into Jan Duivenvoorden's
shoeboxes. Travelling beyond Unit Moebius, Funky Sobrietas and even Leuk
& Ko, there was MINIGOD. Back in 1987, at a local youth centre in the
ever-dull Zoetermeer, a group of seven non-musical friends started what could
be considered a freeform band performing '"electronic 'beuk' music with
noise guitar and lyrical texts". This band was called MINIGOD and rose
from the ashes of the performative act Aars/rugklachten. Their change not
only meant an upgrade in instruments - from jerrycans, barrels and worn-out
bass guitar to keyboard and synthesizers - but also from simply screaming
into the void towards songs with something of a structure. The release
portrays MINIGOD quintessentially -- energy above professionalism. From a
large number of tracks Rubber made a precise selection allowing punk and
satire to dance cheek-to-cheek. MINIGOD believed that every human can be a
tiny bit of God, and that was just the way this music was intended. If only

this funky Latin combo! The record differs from some of their earlier
Prestige albums in that the tracks are longer, more instrumental, and have a
hard fuzzy electric groove. The band jams hard in a way that's more like some
of the funk combos of the early 70s, than the Latin groups from which they
came - and that's no problem by us, because the results are wonderful!
Includes two funky numbers written by Sonny Phillips - "The
Spokerman" and "Jamilah" - plus a great extended cover of
"Cloud Nine". Great horn work from the funky Pazant Brothers, plus

Storytelling
isn’t merely a vehicle for self-expression, it’s a mode of transportation. A
two-way mirror in which we process gilded dreams and grotesque nightmares,
the transgression of cultural taboos and the upholding of ancient tradition.
It’s also the animating idea behind much of the greatest popular music ever
made. Consider Exotica, the new album from Houston iconoclast, Fat Tony, the
latest brilliant entry in that fabled tradition, what Outkast once described
as “shooting game in the form of story rapping.” While hip-hop supplies the
foundation of the Third Ward native’s assault on genre, his futuristic
soundclash encompasses seductive velour soul, lecherous French chansons,
fluorescent new wave, and even splashes of African pop and reggae; the latter
two being the residual effect of Tony’s Nigerian heritage and a sojourn to
Jamaica to record the Carpark Records-released album with engineer, Abijah
Livingston, son of Bunny Wailer. “This album is an ode to the art of
storytelling through music,” the polymath born Anthony Lawson Jude
Ifeanyichukwu Obiawunaotu says, distilling Exotica’s essence. “Picture
records like The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. Artists like Neil Young, Bob
Dylan, or Bob Marley. Every lyric was carefully considered to make sure we
properly conveyed each character’s narrative and motivations. I wanted to
create a world of unique stories with room for each to be interpreted in
distinct ways.” Assembling a Manhattan Project-style team of experts, the
atom-splitting production came via Tony and his longtime collaborator,

Caracol
is one of the first examples of fusion between Brazilian percussive music and
electronics. Synthesizers, samplers and sequencers were still a novelty in
Brazil in the 1980s, but Joâo de Bruçó and R.H. Jackson created an
avant-garde masterpiece. Using popular references and an eagerness to escape
any retro / stylistic cliché that came to haunt Brazilian youth music at that
time, they plunged into an audacious, intuitive and improbable sound journey
in Caracol. This rare adventure of Brazilian music was released independently
in 1989, financed by the artists themselves. The original small pressing
sold-out, belonging now to record collectors around the planet. For the first
time Caracol is re-released on vinyl, with two extra tracks found after decades!
Remastered from the original tapes, this reissue includes a reproduction of
the original graphic art, new testimonies from Joâo de Bruçó and RH Jackson
and a long article signed by Bento Araujo, author of the book series Lindo
Sonho Delirante, which investigates audacious and fearless music created in
the Brazilian underground. The track "Terra Batida" was included in
Outro Tempo (Electronic and Contemporary Music from Brazil 1978-1992),
compilation by DJ John Gomez released by the Dutch label Music From Memory |

The veteran roots reggae duo
return with 'Back A Yard' (patois for
'back in Jamaica'). The 10-song set features longstanding members, Winston
"Pipe" Matthews and Lloyd "Bread" McDonald, in the studio with producer/ singer
Alborosie, whose deep study of Jamaican music was heavily influenced by the
Souls and their heyday at Channel One studio in the 1980s. The production

Entries is proud to release 'Helden Platz', a long out of print 12' maxi
single from seminal Italian electronic act Kirlian Camera.
Keyboardist/vocalist Angelo Bergamini founded the project in Parma in 1979
and named it after an electronic device that photographs the electromagnetic
halo around objects and living beings. By 1980, Angelo had recruited singer
Simona Buja, keyboardist Fabrizio Chiari, and bassist Mauro Montacchini.
Their demo cassette, 'Dawn', attracted the attention of Italian Records, a
popular independent label. Over the next few years the band would release
their first mini-LP, 'Kirlian Camera', the full length ' It Doesn't Matter,
Now', and the singles 'Communicate,' 'Edges,' and 'Blue Room'. The latter was
a significant hit, eventually landing them a deal with Virgin Records. By
1987 the line up consisted of Angelo Bergamini on all instruments, Charlie
Mallozzi on electronic drums and Simona Buja on vocals. Virgin wanted the
band to provide another hit single in order to exploit the success of 'Blue
Room", refusing to release the band's less commercial material |

WHITE CASSETTE IN A SPECIAL NEON GREEN SNAP BOX WITH PRINTED FOIL INLAY. The
album is a relic of three sessions that were created next to or in bed. A
small case equipped with a looper, an EQ, a chorus and a delay is the basis.
Each track is unique due to the different sound devices used, whether it is a
synthesizer, microphone or tablet. Searching for the mood of the moment, even
if the next moment can be completely different, if not even should. A field
recorder is an infinite tool for capturing these moments. Also, these songs
are indeed infinite. In the sense of a spiral-shaped interplay of musical
influences, states of the moment, errors and coincidences, almost like the
magnetic tape of a MC. Fortunately, the acoustic proof of this creative process
is now available on an appropriate sound carrier. Expect swirling excursions
into brightly illuminated Ambient territories, Lo-fi beat adventures in the
outskirts of hidden rave countries and inverted Hip-Hop-experiments from the
parking lots of long forgotten shopping centers. "Das unendliche
Konstrukt" translates into "The Infinite Construct". And that
is what this tape here truly is. Constructs are facts that are intellectually
claimed but not directly tangible. The same can be said about the music that
Jacob Stoy made in 2020 instead of writing Corona diaries. This is music that
must be felt. But if you try to grasp it only with your mental powers, it
will slip through your fingers |

Oliver Schories is returning to
8Bit Records after a year - with the Monza EP. Hamburg-based Oliver has been
a welcome addition to the Germany house community for more than a decade now.
After his latest album, Paradigm, and a collaboration with Jan Blomqvist in
the summer of 2020, new original music will be out in January 2021 on Gorge’s
and Nick Curly’s 8 Bit imprint. Opening with the title track, ‘Monza’, a
stab-led groove evolves organically adding nuanced layers and a rubbery bass.
Warm and inviting, the piano in the first break creates a welcomed tension
against the muted vocal ad libs. On the flipside, ‘Levo’ begins with more low
end grunt. Melodics develop with time and form the main groove hypnotising
the listener before chord sweeps and whispered vocals add warmth and musical
depth |

BienAimer Records continue their
journey into the depths of the underground with BAR004. Agustin Alvarez’s
‘Reflection’ EP features two original cuts firmly focused on the dancefloor.

Daring
techno figure Drumcomplex has been keeping busy, despite the current
universal club hiatus. Cooped up in the studio, where no one but his close
collaborators could enter, he has concocted his 3th album, consisting of
eleven original tracks. It's a release that shows off his well-rounded,
calculated style, bearing the typical Drumcomplex imprint, while
incorporating more recent influences. Long time friend and melodic techno
aficionado Frank Sonic makes two appearances, first one on the intro track, a
more melancholic starter to an otherwise upbeat slew of tracks. Later on, as
we're taken through intricate yet straightforward cuts like Universe and The
Heat, he makes his mark on Deeply Anchored, an ethereal vocal-centered dreamy
pad-heavy journey. We also encounter a collaboration with Ben Champell, a
more heavy-hitting, ready for the floor cut. At over seven minutes, title
track The Story Of Now is the LP's epic centrepiece, with subtle hints of
breaks and an array of contagious percussion and metallic synths. While all
tracks can be defined as techno, the producer's sound design chops are
evident, considering the variety of soundscapes we're taken through track by
track. A great example is Running Funky, who, albeit using an eponymous vocal
loop, demonstrates Drumcomplex' ability to also get very, very groovy. The LP
is rounded off however in true Complexed style with club-primed weapons such
as Cook or Surrender with Uncertain from Vienna, that spell late night havoc.
All in all, an enjoyable release both for at-home listening as well as
in-club use, reaching far and wide into the realm of techno with rowdy rave
capabilities and intricate melodies |

Danzha
begin the journey into audiophile territory with a glorious 4 track EP, in
which these four gifted producers have contributed to the inception of an
everlasting vision of pristine sound design. Dunkler Boulevard initiates this
elevated discourse of soundwaves with a seamless weaving of percussive
elements into a futuristic soundscape, meant to transport the listener into a
state of serenity and familiarity with the algorithmic grooves that
intertwine flawlessly into this mystical atmosphere. Following up with
"Roots, Rock", Paul Walter describes with sounds the process and
concept of blending the reggae dub vibe into the technical and precise micro
house state of motion, thus he manages to alert the listener of a change in
decorum whilst preserving the essence that brings forth an endless voyage
into the transcendent state of active listening and introspective thinking.
The premise brought forth by Topper with the third installment entitled
"Riders of the Lost Arp" is characterized by a stout structural
validity and a resonance that links it in both variety and similitude to the

founder Wyro and emerging artist Lolita Michuk. On the Side A you’re going to
explore a relentless micro house rhythm whilst merging with a trippy electro
texture where synthesizers take the lead on the mystical atmospheres of
"Progress”. A2 it’s a roller coaster of fat bass patterns and fast paced
loops ruled by the omni presence of the synthesizers, giving a trembling soul
to the track that makes of Giperbola an ingenious theorem of refined nowdays
Acid House. The Journey is taking a detour for the experimental twilight zone
of side B with Pjesa, a dreamlike dimension made of whispers and free notes
played by an enchanted ghost piano, ranging over water dripping sounds and

Steve O' Sullivan with his track "Keep Me Waiting" which is a start
to finnish master class and a perfect example of how to express multiple
feelings through music. Complementing that side is our friend and incredible
person RQZ with his track "Blow Out", touches of mystery and
seriousness is what describe this track the best and of course a perfect
groove to start heating up any dance floor. Side B start with another good
friend from many years ago, Dot with his track "Against All Odds" a
track with a lot of aggressiveness, sophisticated drums, dope and progressive

It
is 20 years later and this record still stands the test of time. I distinctly
remember when this record dropped it was a huge game changer, and really put
the thick tripped out sound of the West Coast on the map, and created a sound
that would be imitated for a while to come. In the mid to late 90’s there
were records by Dj Buck, Doc Martin, Leaf Recordings, Wicked, Come Unity etc
that laid the foundation to this record by bringing the sound of the whole
coast to the world. On “Hear Dis Sound” there was this perfect blend of the
artwork done by Skribblez and this rich dubbed out party rocking set of
tracks that captured something that had yet to be seen or heard on such a
large scale as such a pivitol moment in the lineage of dance music. This
record opened so many doors for so many of us all over the world, whether you
call it “West Coast house” or whether it fit into the new genre known as
“Tech House” is irrelevant- it was a massive hit. At the time this came out,
I knew Hipp-e from the days of the underground rave circuit in North America
from the 90’s and I didn’t really know Halo at all then as he was more a part
of the midwest North American scene, originally hailing from Chicago before
moving to San Diego |

"There
are many ways to imagine the future. One might be to look back in the past to
see what has similarities to what we are seeing today. Another way might be
to invent and build a time machine to jettison ahead in time to get a
glimpse. And, one way might be to use our natural senses to feel what the
future might be like. Though all are intriguing to explore, this album is
about the latter option. We are a species of human animals and we are guided
by the ways of "knowing" from feeling; by the ways of intuition,
premonitions and sensing. Each one of us are born with this special tool set
that tells us when the time is right, when enough is enough and when there
may be more or less to it. It has been these skills that has allowed humanity
to survive and flourish for thousands of years. It is also safe to say that
we do not know all there is to know about this skill. A Clairvoyant is a
person who claims to have a supernatural ability to perceive events in the
future or beyond normal sensory contact. 100 years around 1920, a person with
such abilities that could summon, speak to the decease and spirits were in
high demand due to post World War I battle casualties, the Spanish Flu virus
pandemic of 1918, the social and civil unrest and many more events that made
uncertainty the norm. Ironically, the we were doomed to repeat some of these
events and what we're experiencing today. The general impression of
Clairvoyant was that of a conductor of faux hope, scam artist that preys on
grief and desperation or someone that believes in their natural ability a bit
too much! In many cases, this might have credit, but also, it was this
person, with this way of supposedly channeling the beyond that gave people
hope, optimism, resolve and much needed closure. The album plays in the way
of a metaphysical seance and should be listened to in a darkened, candle lit
room. A silent space, free of outside noise, chatter or talking and other

This
12" vinyl release of PD2 (Pas De Deux) brings together the remastered
versions of the 3 best and timeless tracks from their repertoire. MANI MEME
is the opening song of Des Tailles, the 1983 album of Pas De Deux. However,
when the album was released, all the attention went to their taking part in
the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Rendez-Vous, an atypical Song
Contest song. A later single release of the track disappeared in the
obscurity of the eighties electro cult. MANI MEME is a rather traditional pop
song, written by De Nota, a previous collaboration project of Walter Verdin.
Since De Nota hadn't had the chance to release any record, Walter Verdin
decided to make a cover of the song with his new group Pas De Deux (with Dett
Peyskens and Hilde Van Roy). For that reason, MANI MEME became the only song
on the album with a female lead vocal (Dett Peyskens). The idea to release
the present 12" came up when GUCCI used the song for their remarkable
Epilogue campaign since October 2020. On January 1st 2021, the video has
already more than 3 million views |
