Portuguese
maestro Lewis Fautzi drops his 2nd EP on Soma of 2020 with the State Of
Pressure EP. As well as two top drawer originals from Lewis, the EP features
two specially commissioned remixes from fellow Portuguese rising stars Norbak
& Temudo, both of whom have featured this year on Soma to high acclaim.
Title track State Of Pressure opens and doesn't mess about as thumping,
driving drums lay the foundation before pure, hypnotic rhythms begin their
descent delivering that typical Fautzi sound. Norbak's remix of State Of
Pressure takes note of the originals hypnotic vibe offering a deeper and more
percussive driven affair. Epidemic Of Wellness has Fautzi working in darker
elements and delivering more tension with his use of each particular strain
of the track, pulsing and modulating perfectly in sync. Temudo closes out the
EP with his remix of Epidemic Of Wellness. Always focussing on groove and
momentum, Temudo goes sub heavy on his version but retains the dark tones of
the original whilst almost adding an Electro-like flex on the groove.

THE

AVAILABLE SINCE THE 90'S! SLEEVE NOTES / NEW INTERVIEW BY EVERETT TRUE (THE
LEGEND!)! TALULAH GOSH were a Indiepop group from Oxford and one of the
leading bands of the twee pop movement/C86, taking their name from the
headline of an NME interview with Clare Grogan. They supposedly formed when
Amelia Fletcher and Elizabeth Price, both wearing PASTELS badges, met at a
club in Oxford. Formed in 1986, their original line-up comprised Amelia
Fletcher (vocals, guitar), her younger brother Mathew Fletcher (drums), Peter
Momtchiloff (lead guitar), Rob Pursey (bass) and Elizabeth Price (vocals).
Rob left early on, to be replaced by Chris Scott. Elizabeth left in 1987 to
be replaced by Eithne Farry. They called it a day in late 1988 with Amelia,
Matthew and Peter reappearing soon after as HEAVENLY. Amelia and Rob are
currently in TENDER TRAP and released the 2012 album "10 Songs about
Girls", Peter Momtchiloff is currently in the WOULD-BE-GOODS and THE HOT
HOOVES. Eithne Farry is an author and likes a glass of sherry. Elizabeth
Price recently won the 2012 Turner Prize for her video installation "The
Woolworths Chior of 1979". This compilation brings together all of their
recorded output, plus the two BBC sessions and the four tracks which appeared
on the demos EP in 2011. Sleeve notes and an interview with the band by music
journalist Everett True (also known as THE LEGEND) feature in the 24 page

Cinema
was an experimental and avant-garde piece released in early 1985. In many
ways it's an example of the new Brazil that was reborning after 21 years of
darkness under Military Dictatorship. Musically, it was a pioneer album for
Brazilian music, mixing acoustic and synthetic sounds. The track "Sem
Teto" was included in Outro Tempo (Electronic and Contemporary Music
from Brazil 1978-1992), compilation by DJ John Gomez released by the Dutch
label Music From Memory. This rare adventure in Brazilian music was released
independently in 1985, financed by the artists themselves. The original small
press sold-out, belonging now to record collectors around the planet. For the
first time Cinema is re-released on vinyl, with two extra and unreleased
tracks found after decades. Remastered from the original tapes, this reissue
includes reproduction of the original art, by Waltércio Caldas and Miguel Rio
Branco, an eight pages color booklet full of photos, images and new
testimonials from the four members of the project and a long article signed
by Bento Araujo, author of the book series Lindo Sonho Delirante, which
investigates audacious and fearless music created in the Brazilian
underground |

There
is great excitement in the kingdom of Monaberry. Hordes of Vulcans have
invaded the human territory, and Grandpa Herbert needs a vast amount of ore
to forge enough chocolate marshmallows to enable his army to withstand this
threat. Anyone who does not obey the law is sent to the huge penal colony of
Khorinis in these dark times to mine the ore needed. The entire area known as "The
Colony" is surrounded by a magical boundary; an area with a diameter of
two kilometres, which completely seals the penal colony from the rest of the
world. The border can be crossed from outside to inside, but once inside you
can never escape again. The border became a double-edged sword however,
because the prisoners saw an opportunity for revolt. The colony was now
divided into four groups, and the king was forced to make a trade for his
ore, rather than simply claim it. Each group sent its best artist and was
forced to present the king the most important piece of music. For the blue
group came Super Flu and brought Trombarossa. From the pink group Viktor
Talking Machine was sent and presented Lars. Bar.ba came from the black group
and served Rain |

sisters and brothers. For HDSN it was a turbulent year - career on hold,
empty tour schedule, delayed releases and the break up of his long-term
relationship kept our man testing to the bones. It´s nothing new that
heartache has been one of the strongest inspirations for making music and so
it turns out that all the drama around 2020 didn´t stop the young talent from
making moves. Au contraire it has been a very driving force for the up and

Specimen and an awesome colab called BinOhm. True to the Detroit sound and
vibe, manipulating his hardware arsenal with military precision,
"Positron" may well be the funkiest track you'll hear all year.
Label boss Arsonist Recorder is hosting the EP with a deep burner called
"Hot Ledge". further crafting his signature sound, dark and
pulsing, rolling out the beats like a bass-avalanche. Serge Geyzel, from
Berlin, really changes the game here. He takes us deep into certain darkness,

DJ/Producer Ahl Iver returns to Amelie Lens' Lenske for his next EP.
Following on from 2019's 'Haunted Patterns', 'Down The Void EP' begins 2021
as the fifteenth release on the highly regarded Belgian techno label.
Starting off strong is the robust 'Danger Close'. An authoritative kick drum
sets the pace and is quickly accompanied by a number of jolting rave
elements. High pitched echoing synths ring out and strident keys punch their
way through the chaos. A modern techno-rave hybrid that blends the best of
both worlds. Continuing with force is 'Lights Out', a galvanizing rave cut
layered under scattered detuned vocal samples, thundering bass and a
pandemonium of drums. Ethereal keys bring a joyous emotion and balance to the
track. 'Down The Void' is up next on the record, with a squelchy baseline and
razor sharp hi-hats providing the foundation. An arpeggiated synth injects
cunning hints of trance while still retaining a commanding techno ferocity.

A
fixture on Copenhagen's music scene for nearly two decades, Nikolaj Jakobsen,
aka Sugar, has to date thrived on concentrating - usually to the point of
obsession - on one type of music at a time. Early on, it was punk: from his
mid-teens he lived in the legendary squat and artistic community
Ungdomshuset, toured worldwide with punk and metal bands, and was completely
immersed in and dedicated to the city's DIY punk and metal scene. Then in
2012 he set foot in a techno club for the first time, and his laser-like
focus turned in that direction. Jakobsen began producing fast techno under
the Sugar alias, and co-founded Fast Forward Productions, an agency and party
that has gathered together the city's previously disparate band of fast
techno and trance producers, DJs and collectives. Fast Forward has been
instrumental in launching the careers of the likes of Schacke, Repro, Funeral
Future and Rune Bagge, as well as Jakobsen himself. Now Jakobsen is launching
a new label that, even down to its name, is an open challenge to himself to
focus on multiple musical styles at once |

Multi-faceted
artist Calibre today shares his sixteenth studio album "Feeling
Normal". The album is out now to pre-order on Vinyl, CD and on digital
platforms via his own independent imprint Signature Recordings. The record is
his first bonafide 140bpm record and a staggering body of work that shows the
genius levels of one of electronic music's most respected auteurs. Across the
13 tracks, he transcends through space and time, creating music that will
take the listener on a weighty sonic journey. The album announcement is
accompanied by two dub versions "Bad" and "Badder"
deconstructed from the track "Badman" with DRS from Mark Ernestus
available via his Hardwax store January 29th and Bandcamp February 12th. "Getting
to work with Mark Ernestus is a real honour, I collected Basic Channel,
Rhythm & Sound and his other work for many years and still do. It's hard
to avoid the influence of this guy in electronic music across genres and so
it is a real pleasure to have him do his thing with the Badman tune which I
think sounds closely related." All of the tracks on the record have been
road-tested in Calibre's DJ sets over the last 2/3 years with many of them
being sought-out by his hardcore fans. It was only a matter of time then that
he put them out for all to consume. With a nod to the dancefloor, the clear
idea for the album came about following the release of his most personal
album to date "Planet Hearth". "It still works in the
headspace but ultimately it's been written for the sweaty club experience we
miss now, also after an album like Planet Hearth it felt very liberating to
do," he remarks |

of his life. Although better known for his artistic output as Stopouts and
A², back in 1997 Andy and Alec Stone turned their creative skills to the
emergent UK Garage scene, producing this wonderful 4 track EP of fierce
garage jams under the alias Upside, a one-off, originally released on seminal
UKG label Underground Classics. 'Disco Killer' opens proceedings with melodic
chords before a super thick b-line rolls in to overlay those essential

Swedish techno giant’s remix of Sylvie’s track ‘Increased’ in 2019. With an
accomplished category of releases from Maziarz throughout the last two years,
the rising Berlin artist and Berghain regular Grindvik unleash their
thunderous 5 track collaboration with none other than the virtuous Second
State. The EP launches with menacing strains and flurried hi-hats in ‘Bullet
Tower’. Similarly to the other tracks on the EP, this cut narrates a story
using a particular element, in this case the clattering bells and shuddering
bass brooding throughout to create urgency, soon intensified by distorted
acid lines. Next up is title track ‘Before We Run’, led by a ferocious
heaving kick-drum and a bubbling vocal that ripples over the hysteria. Synth
notes swirl throughout and gradually overwhelm the rhythm, before it bolts

present a reissue of Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for La Classe Operaia Va In
Paradiso, originally released in 1971. La Classe Operaia Va in Paradiso was
another strike for maestro Ennio Morricone, one of the most in-demand
composers and arrangers of the time. Avant-garde and slo-funk with scary fuzz
and wah-wah guitars, collide on the track "Metamorfosi" and before
you know it, you are in the same vertigo generated by Gruppo
D'improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. Classical and lush orchestrations are
found, while pounding rhythms are the main course for the original theme, a
violin solo offers a dramatic view of the main score just before an
aggressive guitar break enters the psych-o-rama. The movie directed by Elio
Petri was a dramatic take on the main social issue of the early '70s, dealing
with the heavy conditions of the working class. This is one of the most
sought-after soundtracks of Morricon's experimental side, evident by the
original tribute set by John Zorn for The Big Gundown in 1986
("Metamorfosi" was then performed by a who's who cast of stars
featuring Vernon Reid, Bob James and Diamanda Galas) |

Adventurous
southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf
rock with punk. The group was formed in1l979 in Placentia, a small town close
to Fullerton and Anaheim, by frontman Mike Palm on guitar and lead vocals,
Steve Soto on bass and Scott Miller on drums. That early line up recorded the
classic version of "Bloodstains" in 1979 as a demo produced by
Daniel R. van Patten (of the group Berlin). A year later it was included on
the seminal Rodney On The Roq compilation album released by Posh Boy Records.
Meanwhile James Levesque had replaced Steve Soto (Adolescents) and the new
line up released their own self produced and self released 7" ep in
1980. A year later, the group signed with Robbie Fields' Posh Boy Records for
their debut LP Living In Darkness, co-produced by Fields and former
Simpletones guitarist Jay Lansford. The album was recorded at Brian Elliott's
store front studio in North Hollywood (a few years before Elliott struck gold
writing Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach"). A milestone in California
Punk Rock history.

Deep
Club resident dj and head strobe controller Lone Dancer marks our label's 4th
entry with his first solo 12' on vinyl. After finishing two quality tape
albums in 2017 already for Jacktone and Always Human Tapes, 'House is a
Tunnel' arrives packed with 4 club-ready jagged tekno bangers and one cut for
the chillout room. Side A - Communication: The title track is a sure-fire
party starter centered around a thick kickdrum and a repeating synth rhythm
laced with weird percussion and synth stabs trickling through the texture.
Next, 'PO12-3' combines crisp claps, hats, and a central synth theme that
calls for an intergalactic rave. 'Colony Dwelling' kicks off the
Transportation side, taking our extraterrestrial dancers to a new dimension
steeped in fog juice and flangers. 'Floor' has a chill intro until it
launches into a gritty track that throws broken kickdrums and distorted
synths in every direction. Finally, 'Night Rain' puts the party to rest
utilizng soft pads while hinting at moments from the night before. Overall,
'House is a Tunnel' is a fitting dance-centric conglomeration of Lone
Dancer's unique style of jacking techno, broken beats, and spaced out tracks
that has set him apart in 2017 |

After
‘A Noiva’ by Serpente, Tormenta Electrica continues to shed a light on
portuguese off grid beat dwellers with this split EP between DJ Problemas and
Overmann. On the A side, Afonso Mota aka DJ Problemas offers four tracks of
low key ceremonial vibes, three years after the release of ‘Fúria de Viver’
on Out of Order – with a couple of tracks either self released or appearing
in comps for low income $quad or ENERGIE01 in between. The bass detonations
of ‘Garrincha’ sustaining tension for jungle feverish percussion details,
field recordings and chants to lurk hazily around the absolute elsewhere,
opening the path for the stuttering kicks and cymbals as ritualistic
phenomena on the hypnotic ‘Caturra’. ‘Acima’ caves in to mudled waters of
filtered synth digressions before setting course on its off kilter shuffling
beat and ‘Garrafa’ mirrors ‘Garrincha’ in its propulsive bass, ascending to a
carnival like movement guided by an infectious swirling loop. Intricate
patterns of rhythmic presence and suggestion. A ruminant “song cycle” where
every stroke and pulse is imbued with meaning |

From Memory is excited to announce a special compilation that they’ve been
working on for some time now; MFM053 – VA – Heisei No Oto – Japanese
Left-field Pop From The CD Age (1989-1996). Compiled by long-time friends of
the label, Eiji Taniguchi and Norio Sato, Heisei No Oto delves into a world
of music released almost exclusively on CD and brings together a fascinating
selection of discoveries from a little known and overlooked part of Japan’s
musical history. The last ten or so years have seen a global wave of interest
in Japanese music encompassing ambient, jazz, new wave and pop records from
the 1980s, some of which is increasingly considered the most innovative and
visionary music of that time. Although some music from this period, in the form
of ‘City Pop’ or ‘rare groove’ records, had been coveted by collectors and
DJs for a number of years, most Japanese music from the time was little known
outside and often even within Japan.Sometime around the mid 2000s, two Osaka
record store owners, Eiji Taniguchi of Revelation Time and Norio Sato of Rare
Groove, along with a handful of deep Japanese diggers such as Chee Shimizu of
Organic Music records in Tokyo, began to explore beyond the typical ‘grooves’
or ‘breaks’. Much like their counterparts in Europe and the US, they began
delving into home-grown ambient, jazz, new wave and pop records, discovering
visionary music, often driven by synthesizers or drum computers, that broke
beyond the typical confines of their genres. Spending tireless hours in local
record stores and embarking on digging trips across the country, Eiji
Taniguchi and Norio Sato, much like Chee Shimizu, have been at the forefront
of unearthing and introducing many of the very Japanese records now loved and
sought after around the world. Yet as YouTube algorithms and vinyl reissues
would transport such music into the global consciousness and demand and
therefore scarcity intensified for such records, so Eiji and Norio have
recently begun to turn their attention to CDs |

techno, electro and electronica and featuring on top labels including

‘Forgotten Technology’ which is some of his best work to date. 'Hidden In
Plain Sight' (+) a dystopian electro track weaving lush warm pads and glassy
eyed melodies over bubbling 808 beats with added 303 grittiness resulting in
a wonderful timeless Detroit inspired gem. ‘Behind The Smile' (++) Imagine if
B12 and Larry Heard met up for a late night jam in the mid 90's! A chi-town
bassline combined with icy atmospherics and exquisite drum programming all
make for a great track for both club and home-listening alike. On the flip
Dream Sequencer (-) takes us into pure space territory. A Nu Electronica
style techno monster with driving drums and immersive emotional content
