Szaio
is the anagrammatic alias of Toronto based Polish Canadian production
designer turned musician Zosia Mackenzie. Her debut album, Obraz (Portrait),
initially began as a series of GarageBand sketches created over a month in
the attic of her grandmother’s home in Warsaw. Upon returning to Toronto,
Mackenzie and her partner John O’Regan went to work in their home studio,
swapping sounds and sequences with their Roland TR-909 and Juno 106,
Sequential Circuits Prophet 600, and Soviet-era Formanta Polivoks. Friends,
neighbours, and dub techno pioneers Mark and Matt Thibideau provided
additional ear candy, layers of vintage rack effects, and full frequency
analog mixdowns for each of the album’s six songs at Repair-Lab Studio.
Mastering and cutting was provided by Stefan Betke (aka Pole) at Scape
Mastering in Berlin. Pressed to gold 12″ vinyl and available in limited
edition via Amsterdam’s Bordello A Parigi (as well as Mackenzie and O’Regan’s
own Joint Account imprint in North America) Obraz represents a new and
distinctive chapter in both Polish and Canadian electronic music |

Talking about the foundation of
Jamaican music, the Alpha Boys School in Kingston can be considered as one of
the places where it all began! Back in the day, under the direction of Sister
Mary Ignatius, the school was the place where young boys from the poor
neighborhoods in Kingston could embrace an instrument (mostly brass and
drums). Then history tells us that some of these kids became among the most
influential musicians in the history of Jamaican Jazz, Ska, and Reggae. Joe
Harriott, Dizzy Reece, Tommy McCook, Don Drummond, Cedric Brooks, Rico
Rodriguez, Johnny Osbourne, Leroy Smart and Yellowman are just some of the
fruits of such a great community art project. Now this compilation contains
some rare gems produced between 1959 and 1962 by Jamaican Jazz heavyweights
such as Tommy Mc Cook, Don Drummond, Ernest Rangling, Lennie Hiibert, Cecil
Lloyd and others. This is highly swinging music inspired by the Black
American tradition with a unique and inevitable Caribbean flavour. Don't miss

which was released on Propaganda Records in 1983, and the band split up

To celebrate their first decade
of existence, Sunderland's ironic punk trio, Toy Dolls, issued retrospective
Ten Years Of Toys, but rather than using the standard-issue "Greatest
Hits" formula, the group chose to re-cut nuggets from their career so
far, using the then-current line-up of frontman Olga, bassist Dean Robson and
drummer Martin Yule. Thus, tracks like "Dougy Giro," "Fiery
Jack" and "Glenda And The Test Tube Baby" are given new leases

“To
me, sounds have always been more interesting than words,” says Agnes Obel. “I
love it when the voice becomes an instrument and you almost forget it’s a
human voice.” Never is this more apt than on this beautifully programmed and
bewitching selection of music. Agnes’ 2010 debut album Philharmonics went
platinum in France and Belgium and, unsurprisingly, quintuple platinum in her
native Denmark, where she also won five Danish Music Awards (equivalent to
the Brits) in 2011. The follow-up Aventine, released in late 2013, was imbued
with the same measured calmness as her debut. It went platinum in Belgium and
gold in Denmark and France. For the mix you have in your hands it feels
almost as if Agnes has scoured the world looking for kindred spirits – or kindred
songs. There’s a quietude about it all, the antithesis of a rush hour, like a
frozen lake on a Sunday morning. This is aided by a veritable cornucopia of
new Obel material, including a haunting reading of Danish song ‘Glemmer Du’,
Inger Christensen’s ‘Poem About Death’ set to original music, and an Agnes
original, ‘Bee Dance’. Among them, there’s the enigmatic Jamaican singer Nora
Dean who weighs in with the hypnotic and slinky Duke Reid production, ‘Ay Ay
Ay Ay (Angie-Lala)’ and the sparse, sardonic ‘Party Girl’ by Michelle
Gurevich, so good it inspired the eponymous French movie. There are the
plangent voices, The Bulgarian Folklore Choir, Nina Simone, Ray Davies and
Agnes herself, ringing true. Somehow, Ms Obel makes even makes the electronic
tracks bow to her needs as with Yello whose ‘Great Mission’ is more Martin
Denny than Underworld and cult Greek composer Lena Platonos’ ‘Bloody Shadows
From A Distance’ pulses gently rather than throbs and Can’s recently
rediscovered ‘Obscura Primavera’, unusually hushed. "I was surprised at
how much time I ended up spending on this. I collected all the songs together
with my partner Alex and we just spent time listening to records, trying to
see what would fit together. Some of the music I’ve included here is on
mixtapes we made when we were just friends as teenagers. Each one of the

and modern east and west ~ Nihon no Uta ~, is blindness caused by an illness
that he had when he was a child, he met Tsugaru shamisen in a poor and
difficult life. Chikuzan Takahashi, a master of the Tsugaru shamisen, has
raised Japanese folk songs to the level of art that has been praised around
the world. The recorded song is "Iwaki Impromptu". Several versions
are also recorded in the album work, and there are different arrangements
only for improvisational songs, but this time Held from 1973 to 2011 at
"Maruyama Park Concert Hall" in Kyoto City to coincide with the
Gion Festival in Kyoto It is a sound source when he appeared in

Beyond Colossal is the
fulfillment of the promise 2005's excellent Through the Eyes of Heathens
began to see through. The sound is that of the band pushing itself harder,
writing stronger songs and compromising none of their edge or aural passion.
You can hear it on "Exoskeleton (Part II)," truncated here from its
appearance with "Part I" on a 2007 split with Iceland Brain Police,
at the 1.39-mark launching of "The Ventriloquist," on the more
traditionally stoner "Grand Inquisitor" and even the quiet

It's about time that Dresden
based Steve Kasper comes around with his first solo EP on Uncanny Valley.
After "Unvexed Dub" on UV010 and "Puli Kali (Rooted Dub)"
together with Goetterkreis on UV020 EP he provides four original cuts that
extend the label's sound with some UK flavour. "Helms Klamm" isn't
quite the battlefield you expect from the title but a fine UKish House affair
with warm synths and a distinctive bass line that will cause a stir on the
dance floor. Then there is "Slo'fool (Ydee Dirtsocks Reset)" which
starts mysteriously tempered and develops into a hell of a tune with its
drone-like synths. "Good Old" showcases Steve's knack for combining
ingredients of the UK Hardcore Continuum. Good old it is. Finally, the dubby
track that has to be on a coherent Steve Kasper-EP is "Rooted (TRVE
Dub)". No doubt: Steve knows his masters. The wonderful artwork was

Tempio del Futuro Perduto Studios (24/H Records HQ) working with personal and
resident machines to craft out Night Illusion EP: 2 tracks journey into
purest form of their sound. A full immersion daily session after a tour
through Tempio's walls generated acid, spatial, overdriven but melodic cuts:
A1_Night Illusion opens the release supported by dreamy A2_Remix from 24/H
Records resident MBM and then continued with B1_Rupture with dedicated
B2_Remix signed by Label Owner Marthial. Perfectly reflecting the sonic

A name familiar to Hidden, France
based JC Laurent returns for the fourth time with Distressed World. As with
each release, expectations are high and the young Frenchman impresses with
his latest body of work. He delivers three original tracks inspired by the
current state of global affairs: underlying tension, shifts in mood with the
need for a steady hand. Side A begins with "Distressed World", a
heavy stepper driven by eerie soundscapes, soft and subtle shifts of stormy
atmosphere that expresses today's desolation. The Oliver Deutschmann Redub is
upbeat with slick drum programming and flow, expressing a palpable sense of
urgency. Side B starts with "The Red Wire", hypnotic sounds and
smooth percussion are anchored by a continuous low-end flow.
"Breakthrough" warms things up with pad overtones, and carries a
more jacking percussive feel |

is a fast-rising star of the German scene, a stalwart for house music in the
techno-oriented country, pushing funk influenced danceable beats that have
seen him become a best-seller. Hot off a recent EP on Berg Audio, DJOKO is
returning to Shall Not Fade for a second record - after the phenomenal
success of 2020's Hooked, this one is long-awaited. Ventura EP is an
exhibition of DJOKO's skill, tight and groovy house cuts that beg to be

DJ Ewan McVicar is tipped for big things, having found support in the likes
of Annie Mac and Fatboy Slim. After a stellar year crowned with a release on
the hallowed Nervous Records, he makes his debut on Shall Not Fade's
"Basement Tracks" series with five explosive earworms. Amnocairn EP
collects the most classic sounds from the dancefloor and melts them together,
styles blending throughout songs to keep listeners on their toes and dancing.
The title track is a sweeping marriage of insistent house piano and washy dub
techno synths, leading into the sugary, hardcore "1001 Freestyle"
that calls back to early Lone tracks. Then one for the after hours crew,
"Ha Mez", a syncopated 303 techno roller. McVicar keeps the party
atmosphere close across the B-side, flexing laser-cut synth arps with a dark,
big-room edge on "Stu Boy", before crowning the EP with a gorgeous
sun soaked party number "See U Thru My Eyes", jazzy inflected house

Not Fade's garage and breaks sublabel, Time is Now, has been a great success
in its first year, and now starts 2021 with the first in a series of
hand-stamped white label releases. London via Madrid up-and-comer Tower Block
Dreams makes his debut for the label with five killer cuts, backed with a
weighty remix from Manchester-based garage maestro and Time Is Now regular
Interplanetary Criminal. The A-side is all reliable garage bangers; the
opener, "Wicked Ya No" is a rude wobbler for the early hours, with
rave piano stabs and a dirty drop. Track two "Keep Coming" loses
none of the pace, chopping up playful R'n'B diva vocals to a hard bassline;
and the A-side ends with a sidewinding beast of a track in
"Soundboy". Think retro synths paired with timestretched ragga
vocals - it's unashamedly filthy. Onto the B-side with gun fingers out for
"Truss We", which plays again with ravey stabs and staccato female
vocals for an instant dancefloor banger. Tower Block Dreams' last offering on
the record is much darker; a forward stepper that cruises along at half-time,
creating an ominous atmosphere on which to lead into Interplanetary
Criminal's remix of "Wicked Ya Know". This one reimagines the
record opener in the producer's trademark high-octane style, smattering hyper
breakbeats across the track and turning up the wobble to end the record with
a stinker |

Storken’s „Lille Vals“ is among

debut of a young and promising man from Sweden as, it received candid praise

around, Storken’s precious little diamond gets a threepart remix treatment to

it into his own world and brings out all the big elements to make it even –

Its
been more than 2 years since I did an original release on my own label. Its
been 9 months since I had an original NOIR release.I wanted some time without
releases. Some time to breathe, to think and most importantly time to be
creative and to experiment.I have picked 2 productions I felt sounded
different to everything else out here. Eruption was already made in the fall
2017 and I have been road-testing it since ADE17 and changed it quite a lot
over the 6 months period from when I thought it was finished to what it
actually sounds like now. I wanted the track to be brutal like a volcano
erupting but at the same time have beautiful and peaceful elements. Hence the
breakdown lava sliding into the middle of the track before it all erupts
again. I have spent many hours trying to make it sound raw and unpolished.
Disruption is build around a super simple sequence loop I played by hand
while jamming with new pluck sounds. As the sequence got layered and washed
in effects it became a quite haunting loop and that led me to add a boys
choir to give that feel bigger impact.This track sounds simpler than Eruption
but its actually stacked with layers |

Escapism
is a theme that runs through the very heart of music. We listen to be
transported, removing ourselves from our immediate surroundings as our senses
relax and the sonic experience washes over us. During times of hardship, such
a sensation is naturally magnified. Music gifts us a way out from our
challenges, allowing us to choose how we feel in response to the sounds we
hear. This theme has been explored meticulously by Audiojack over the past
four years, resulting in the release of their second album, Surface Tension,
on Crosstown Rebels this April. The journey sets off with Subterranea, a
futuristic breaks-inspired cut that features shimmering female vocals
throughout. It feels both euphoric and spacious, taking us to a world far
removed from ours. The first collaborative effort comes next in the form of
Under Your Skin. Released as the album’s lead single in February, Kevin
Knapp’s weighty lyrical offering takes no prisoners, paving the way for the
track’s punchy, percussion-heavy backbone. 925 Shift ups the pace, pairing
resonant kick-hat combos against a myriad of robot-like synths whilst gentle
keys chime softly in the background. Surreal yet familiar in one, it opens
smoothly into Easy Rider, a groove-led, minimal-laced dance number that
transports us to brighter days with upbeat piano rolls and dream-like chords.
Psychoactive pt. 1 continues the warming theme, delving further into tropical
realms. Ethereal pads blend into pulses of acid to form an immersive auditory

Robert
Zimmerman, aka the rock-folk singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, was born in Duluth,
Minnesota in 1941. His first three albums – Bob Dylan, The Freewheelin’ Bob
Dylan, The Times They Are A-Changing – reoriented both folk music and rock.
His early songs were largely inspired by Woody Guthrie, and in turn provided
inspiration (and soon a religion) to many music fans around the globe. There
is no doubt that the baby-boomers of 1968 – a whole generation – were seeking
an ideal, and the promise of change in Dylan’s first songs transformed a
merely average nasal-toned folk singer into a figurehead of the protest
movement, and later one of its high priests. But there are also those who
will remember how Dylan invented his own life-story as an orphan with Indian
blood who spent his childhood in a circus/ Or how he happily explained to
'Time' why their magazine was pointless (and to CBS News why opinions
expressed by media were useless and harmful.) Of course they were, and so Bob
was there to change the world. Times, indeed, they were changing, and Bob
began wearing silk shirts way before he was handed the Nobel Prize for
Literature. We need more Jesus Christs and Bob Dylans as world-changers |

Mato. Starting his reggae production career in 2006, Thomas Blanchot aka Mato
has released music through various projects on EDR Records, Big Singles or
Makasound... In the meantime he developed a real trademark: taking over
classics French, Hip-Hop, or Pop song, into roots reggae-dub new versions.
Besides since 2010, Mato has built a solid reputation thanks to his hot
remixes of Hip-Hop classics on Stix Records. Today, Mato is back with another
target for his special skills as a tailor of reggae music, this time focusing
on classic musical themes from R. Strauss’ "Also Sprach
Zarathustra" and Herbie Hancock’s "Maiden Voyage ". It’s a
great sensation to hear these melodies turned into superbly crafted Dub

the more introspective dimensions of the Spazio sound, label founders Donato
Dozzy and Neel began piecing together this record with their own meditative
reflections on the idea of rebirth before inviting two close friends and

"After
the recent success of their latest studio album - 3.0, Croatian outfit Cortex
Thrill are back on Bonzai plastic, 26 years since their last Bonzai vinyl
release with the 6 track - 3.0 Vinyl Album Sampler. Still in the throes of
celebrating their 30 years on the scene, Ivo T. Montina, Sven Gleda and
Robert Grizilo make up Cortex Thrill, and together, they dug deep to create
this legacy project across 3 different studios using video conferencing. They
used new production and mastering techniques which shows their dedication and
drive to move with the times. Back in 1994, fresh faced and full of energy,
Cortex Thrill were signed to Bonzai Records and several top-notch 12’s soon
followed as they carved a niche on the scene in just a few short years. Live
P.A.’s all across Europe, propelled them to a bigger stage, playing at top
events including Bonzai party’s Loveparade 2002, Vibe, Fantastica and
Unite-Parade to name just a few. They’ve released over 50 vinyl records and
just as many digital releases. It was Ivo who, after a couple of decades
since they last graced Bonzai Records, decided to send some of their new,
modern material to Bonzai Progressive. Four new releases followed, along with
a raft of remixes for other artists. But Cortex Thrill had remained active
throughout the late 1990’s and 2000’s, releasing several singles and two
albums on various labels, and collaborating with a host of top producers.
They have a unique sound containing elements of tech house, trance and
progressive house. Co-incidentally, this latest adventure on wax features a
contemporary remake of Deep Infinity, one of their bigger tracks which also
appeared on their last vinyl release for Bonzai Records, the 1995 cut titled,
Infiltration EP. This 12inch is packed with deep, undulating rhythms laced
with magical melodies and driven by surging basses |

Up Records, Makkum Records and Red Wig Records are proud to present the 2nd
full length album "Putoo Katare Yire" by Ghanaian artist Ayuune
Sule. This is the sound of optimism and hope. “Putoo Katare Yire” or
“Wickedness has no home”, is the title of Ayuune Sule's brand new album
translated from Frafra, the language from Ghana's Upper East Region. He is a
master of the Kologo, the double stringed lute played by troubadours for
spiritual and educational messages. Ayuune Sule brings the soul into Kologo
Power. He is the main kologo star in Kumasi, the second city of Ghana and
capital of the Ashanti region. Together with King Ayisoba (Ayuune is part of
his band), Guy One, Atongo Zimba, Stevo Atambire and Sambo, he represents the
generation that broke Kologo music outside of the North East Region of Ghana.
In 2015 he released his 7" single with the songs “What A Man Can Do A
Woman Can Do More Better” and “Who Knows Tomorrow” on Makkum Records (MR12),
which brought him to western scenes and audiences. This was followed by his
2018 album "We have One Destiny". In Bongo near Bolgatanga in the
north of Ghana, where Sule grew up, is the location of the Top Link Studio
which is run by producer Francis Ayamga. The studio is a magnet for local
talents and musicians of the region, nationwide and beyond. In collaboration
with and aided by Arnold de Boer of Makkum Records, much of Kologo Power and
Frafra Power music has been produced there in recent years, shaping the scene
that it is today. Even African Head Charge's front man Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah
decided to check it out and ended up recording two songs there with Ayuune
Sule for this new album, as well as featurings by Prince Buju, Florence Adone
and Fausty Amoa Mabila |

Belgian
dream pop six-piece Uma Chine craft unusually bewitching music. The new band
has two albums under its belt - the debut self-titled (2019) and Changes
(2021) - which have been beautifully received by the music press in the
Benelux region press and beyond. The most eye-catching endorsement yet has
come from Belgium's godfathers of synth music dEUS. dEUS asked Uma Chine to
play at their party in Antwerp, which is a pinch yourself moment for any
purveyor of futuristic music through analog gear. Uma Chine being at the
forefront of the Belgian alternative scene comes partly thanks to frontwoman
and principal composer Nele De Gussem. De Gussem has been in some of the
country's great modern bands before -- BRNS, Maya's Moving Castle, Future Old
People Are Wizards. But it's in Uma Chine you hear an artist embarking on
their most personal work to date, whilst conceding that the idea of the self
is perhaps an egoistic social construct, and that truly divine ideas pass
through you. "I believe that the most important ideas come to us, they
want to impose themselves on our consciousness. The only thing we can do is
listen quietly and examine them without fear, " says De Gussem, with the
air of a Victorian auteur. With her dream catcher in thoroughly good order,
the sound of magical-realism as pop ensues, strikingly so on the new album,
Changes. It's a largely blissed-out listen accented by an embrace of the odd.
A case in point is the shifts from shoegaze-y dream pop to tribal drum
wig-outs on lead single 'Visits'. Or the era-blending 'The Frog', where dirty
synth bass intertwining dazed folk-y fireside vocals. The singers have an
eeriness to sound truly like oracles. Meanwhile, 'Changes' offers the
unexpected as analog oscillators make way for a cranky burst of lead guitar.
De Gussem comes across, ultimately, like the luckiest composer in the world
to have such enigmatic co-singers in her presence in sisters Rana and Sherien
Holail Mohamed. Meanwhile, the band musicians Simon Raman (drums - Ivy Falls,
Steiger), Nils Vermeulen (bass - Jukwaa) and Gilles Vandecaveye-Pinoy
(Steiger, Peenoise) all pull in the same musical direction to make this a
perfectionist psychedelia, with everything feeling like it's justified as a
texture on a trained musical level, with the puzzles worked out in her dreams |

Our
third release 'Untitled' emerges as a moody four tracker born in Matteo Luis'
home studio. The title track is the driest start off there could be. It
monotonously heads for the tracks climax in manner of a cyclone, a straight
stomper that evolves its full strength within its last solution, surprising
with an acidic and dubby face that makes you want to dive right into the
dashing structure of its last minutes. 'Yucca' has those smooth chords in the
back that are dramatically charged, sexy and slow. The whole tune seems
nostalgic and thoughtful with its atmospheric dub elements. Something for the
lovers. 'Impulse' is Matteo in full effect. Bouncy and moody at the same
time, it captures the EP's dub influence perfectly. This song is a trip
forcing you to seek for the harmonious redemption that finally appears within
a late chord change. The track is remixed by one of our long time favourites
- Benedikt Frey. His irresistible, murky style is retrievable in this work.
The fully dynamic break-beat based jam finally frames the mystic vibes of the
