Deep
In Dis Intl. is back with another killer release, this time by Brazilian
sound system culture precursor Rassan and his Don't Hesitate EP. It includes
a remix by UK's rising DJ Producer Bailey Ibbs. It is widely known by now
that the Brazilian electronic music scene is one of the fastest growing and
its artists are gradually developing a unique style with a strong
international influence. Rassan, co-founder of the Nice & Deadly record
label is a promising talent, making noise with his 90's raver influenced
productions. A1. "Don't Hesitate" is like stepping into a time
machine. Nostalgic piano riffs, classic breakbeats and catchy vocal samples.
Perfect summer anthem. A2. "Rota De Fuga" is one of those tracks
that can really transport you just by closing your eyes. It has a darker,

Music
for animation cyber-noir film “Battlefield” (based on same-titled book by
Stephen King) Animated films soundtrack is one of the most substantial
aspects of Bystryakov's career. He masterfully balances between being a
composer and a sound designer. A cartoon thriller for Stephen King's original
story was created at the Kyivnaukfilm studio in 1986. The work itself reached
the Soviet reader in 1981 for the first time and was King's first publication
in the USSR, as well as "Battleground" was the first and only film
adaptation. "Battlefield" is a work that belongs entirely to its
time. This soundtrack is a semi-conscious journey through the night TV
network: from Italian horror movies and detectives to the movie Blade Runner
on the last working channel well past midnight. Actually, in such a sequence,
the fabric of the work is revealed. The atmosphere in the style of Goblin
(Untitled I), thus echoing the work of Enno Morricone (Title theme, Theme of
the boss). In addition to melodic fragments, he boldly creates minimalist
pieces that undoubtedly sound like an early acid house (Untitled II), because
the sounds of Roland TB-303 and TR-606 are instantly recognisable.
Bystryakov's approach did not involve the use of many tools or effects. He
worked with one Roland Juno-106 synthesiser, using the full palette of its
sound. His new tool is a counterpoint. This is how the final theme (End
Theme) is constructed, where a piercing solo on a saxophone changes the

I Am the Greatest is a comedy
album by boxer Cassius Clay, released in August 1963, six months before he
won the world heavyweight championship, publicly announced his conversion to
Islam, and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. It was released by CBS Columbia.
The album helped establish Ali's reputation as an eloquently poetic
"trash talker". The album has also been identified as an early
example of rap music and a precursor to hip hop music. The liner notes were
written by the American poet Marianne Moore, a longstanding fan of Clay. Clay
collaborated on the writing for the album with the comedy writer Gary Belkin,
who was listed as producer on the original release The album idea had been
proposed to Clay by the William Morris Agency, and the recording was
conducted at Columbia Records 30th Street New York Studio before an audience
of 200 people |

New York, early 90's, the haydays
of the New York and Jersey clubhouse! With labels such as NuGroove, Nervous,
Freeze, Strictly Rhythm, Henry Street Music taking all the spot light, there
is Jovonn working on a small but sensational catalogue of music that somehow
gets overshadowed by the popular releases on the mentioned labels. The honest
productions, jazzy melodies and playful vocals (rooted in gospel) were taking
things into a more musical, more spiritual way, lacking gimmicks or
dispensable samples. For the real diggers, the true lovers of House music
Jovonn always was a name to watch, a producer of some of their favorite NY
house tracks, tracks that have a raw edge combined with a sincere human touch
and pure underground house vibes. People such as Rex resident Dj Deep was a
huge fan, and also collaborated on couple later productions with Jovonn.

Frenchmen The Hacker and Commuter take their inspiration from the TV series,
Chernobyl to create an imaginary soundtrack for their collaborative EP on
Cultivated Electronics, which has already been on full throttle in 2021 with
releases by DMX Krew, London Modular Alliance, Morphology and Maelstrom
across both CE and sister label, CE Ltd. Cultivated Electronics isn't letting
up any time soon, with this new EP from two major forces of the scene who
should need no introduction, having between them released over the years on
labels including Zone, Mannequin Records, Klakson, Dark Entries, Bass Agenda,
Elektrofon and too many others to mention. Here they deliver three new punchy
electro tracks that convey their love of vintage electronics and machine
funk, but with a modern touch that will hit all the right notes for electro

Die
Form is a French post-industrial and electronic band formed in 1977. The name
‘Die Form’ means ‘(the) form/shape’ in German, like the Bauhaus diary and is
a play on the English homonym ‘deformed’ and on the French homonym ‘difforme’
(deformed). Die Form is the primary project of electronic musician and
multimedia artist Philippe Fichot. He began by recording a number of
experimental cassette releases in the late 1970s and formed the Bain Total
label to release these early cassettes and various side projects including
Krylon Hertz, Mental Code, Camera Obscura, Eva-Johanna Reichstag, Hurt and
Fine Automatic. In 1982 Die Form released their debut vinyl album, “Die
Puppe” in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. These are the first esoteric
electronic experiments, often improvised, from what would become the sound of
the project. Underlying themes of eroticism, death and other ‘taboo’ subjects
are apparent in both the music and the album artwork, which Philippe also
produces. The album was recorded with entirely analog equipment (Roland MC4
Micro-Composer, TR-808 Rhythm Composer, ARP 2600, Kawai 60F, Revox B77).
Songs range from hypnotic, minimalistic proto-IDM to pure, daring
experimental sound manipulation. Unable to fit into any genre, “Die Puppe” is
in a class of music all its own. All songs have been remastered from the
original master tapes for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in
Berkeley. The jacket is an exact replica of the original 1982 edition
designed by Philippe Fichot, with a photograph of a porcelain doll holding a
syringe. Each album includes two post cards with never before seen photos of
Philippe with lyrics and liner notes by the band |

Following
their first collaboration on 'Adrenaline' for Amelie's Exhale Records
compilation late last year, Belgium's Techno luminary and French dynamo AIROD
will release a 4 track 'Raver's Heart EP' with Amelie on her label Lenske
Records. After their first collab held the top spot in the Beatport charts
for weeks after release, it's clear that Amelie & AIROD's productions are
the outcome of a powerful synergy between two of Techno's finest producers.
The record opens with a blistering kick drum and unrelenting snares in 'Join
Us'. A 303 laced with dense industrial distortions drives the bass line
before any effects are stripped back, allowing the acid sound of the 303 to
pierce through. Stabbing synthesizer keys create a trancey & fast paced melody,
while Amelie's voice swirls in and out whispering mischievous commands. Title
track 'Raver's Heart' steps up next, opening with a hurried percussion that
creates an overwhelming intensity from the offset. Amelie's voice echoes
'they can never stop us', which is chopped up and layered upon itself before
submerging into the bass line |

Pour La Danse is proud to present SPACED OUT!, a compilation curated by
Belgian artist and producer DJ Athome (Front de Cadeaux) which focuses on
psychedelic dub, space rock, and early electronica created in the UK's
festival scene between 1986 and 1996, the result of a life long passion and
30 years of following artists from the festival scene. It was a loosely
organized British musical movement born in the early 80s and focused on free
festivals in Stonehenge and other countercultural sites across the country.
It represented a continuation of the psychedelic spirit of the 60s, with
altered states of consciousness, dub production techniques, non-Western
influences as well as instruments featuring heavily, along with a desire to
side-step mainstream venues, labels, and attitudes. Musically, it took on
many forms, from mind-expanding space rock to third eye-opening electronica
to shattering psychedelic dub. Visually, the zines, cassettes, LPs, and CDs
created by this scene also displayed heavy influences from 60's psychedelia,
updated for the late 80s and early 90s. In the 90s, the zines and cassettes
reached the eyes and ears of DJ Athome, then a young DJ living in Liège.
After meeting a group of like-minded individuals organizing local gigs which
was single-handedly responsible for putting Liège on the map for many British
bands, he dived headfirst into the sights and the sounds of this festival
scene, gathering as many albums as possible and joining local collectives
involved in the organization of events. This compilation is in equal amounts
an introduction for newcomers and a confirmation for those who already know
that this was without a doubt one of the trippiest and most compelling
psychedelic musical movements of the last decades, notable for its hybridity,
its sincerity, and above all its wonderfully life-changing effects for
listeners and performers alike. The compilation is presented in 2LP format,
along with a limited edition Riso printed scene which features a foreword by
acclaimed philosopher Timothy Morton, along with liner notes by David Borsu,
one of the key players of Liège's musical collectives in the 90s and
illustrations by designer Andrew Beltran |

You
would think that a small country like the Netherlands has very few isolated
places, but buried in the south-west corner you will find the region of
Zeeuwsch Vlaanderen. Just before the Westerscheldetunnel was built in 2003,
the area was only reachable by ferry or over land through Belgium. By the
late 1970s, in the region's small city of Terneuzen, a group of like-minded
music lovers were inspired by punk music and formed a series of bands
together. A number of the musicians first met in high school, and it is here
where we find Danny Bosten (Das Ding) and his label Tear Apart Tapes. If you
played music you had to have a label to release it and because you had a
label you needed to make music. It was a logical and circular process, and
despite being isolated, nothing stopped them from bringing new music to
Terneuzen. Up till today the label releases cassettes just like in the olden
days as well as a string of 7-inches with new music by Das Ding, Les Yeux
Interdits and Ian Martin. Each of these releases carries a similar visual
aesthetic to the label's early 1980s output. All of them sold out quickly,
but luckily they are now collected here on this LP |

We
are very excited to announce the first of four releases of the Stone Techno
series, which is a collaboration between the world-famous Ruhr Museum and The
Third Room collective. This might sound at first sight a bit confusing. What
do have stones and techno music in common? Well, the answer is very simple
and yet fascinating. Our home base, the Mischanlage (mixing plant) located at
UNESCO World Heritage's Zollverein in Essen, was built from raw materials
that originate from the Ruhr Area: stones and minerals. Its irresistible
atmosphere and aura are radiating such an undeniable attraction for all
visitors around the world. In exactly this mixing plant, different types of
coal from the mines of the Ruhr area were mixed to a maximum quality by means
of a huge hopper system. Alongside with Dr. Achim Reisdorf (Geologist at the
Ruhr Museum Foundation) and Kurt Gluck (Ohm Resistance) we came up with the
idea to sample the sounds of those natural raw materials and creating a huge
sample bank. All the sounds were processed by The Third Room Studios with
high end analog gear to create the best sound quality possible |

one sense Central Processing Unit is familiar territory for London Modular
Alliance - group members Pip Williams (Phil Ventre) and Koova (Gavin
Pkyerman) have both dropped EPs through the Sheffield label in the past, the
former offering outer-space street-soul on 2017's Outer Limits after Koova
had channelled Drexciya for 2015's This Is Not My Future. However, the
Cracked Dice EP represents the first time that the trio have come through on
CPU in full force, with Simon Lynch completing the lineup alongside Koova and
Williams here. Cracked Dice finds them on top form, blending broken-beat
machine-funk grooves with latent house and rave tendencies to thrilling
effect. Cracked Dice is ushered in by the weightless atmospherics of its
title-track. The combination of synth washes and gurgling electronics here
sounds so alien that it could pass for a piece of incidental music from 'The
X-Files', but things don't stay that way for long - the track soon snaps into
a stargazing club joint in the Detroit mode, one in which spaceship synth
wobbles are pushed onwards by lithe, rumbling sub-bass |

year has passed since DJ Koze released his masterpiece Amygdala, which was
heralded worldwide with numerous awards and prizes: "Best Album" in
Groove, De: Bug, Byte FM and Zündfunk, "Best Album #2" at Resident
Advisor, as well as the HANS Music Prize, the VUT Indie Award for "Best
Album" and finally, the ECHO Critics Award. Now, after Reincarnations -
The Remix Chapter 2001-2009 and Music Is Okay (2000), comes the third major
exhibition of DJ Koze's work as a remix virtuoso: Reincarnations Pt 2.
Alongside the acclaimed solo albums Kosi Comes Around (2005), Wo die
Rammelwolle fliegt (as Adolf Noise, 2005) and Amygdala (2013), it is
primarily through his remixes that DJ Koze, like no other producer of
electronic music, sets new standards again and again. His musical and
storytelling skills always seem to shine a little brighter when he lets all
his love and passion flow into the music of other artists. There are many
songs where people first recall the DJ Koze version. Remixes to remember. For
Reincarnations Pt 2 Dj Koze, aka Swahimi, der Unerleuchtete, (Swahimi, the
Unenlightened), collected 12 of his musical rebirths in an old wicker basket,
where otherwise a small cat can be found sleeping. Once more, DJ Koze refines
and varies his colors and shapes, styles and materials. He prefers to reach a
crescendo on the dance floor in his own special way - often the loud becomes
the quiet, the heavy stands in contrast with the gentle. Koze's remix of
Moderat's "Bad Kingdom" makes a hymn from a hit. His reworking of
the two Herbert tracks "It's Only" (Resident Advisor Poll 2013 -
Track of the Year #1) and "You Saw It All" feel like abstract
paintings, yet function simultaneously as great pop music. And his wonderful
arrangements for Caribou, Who Made Who, Ada, Gonzales, Soap & Skin, and
finally, as a crowning glory, Apparat's "Blackwater", have all long
since become classics. In the mountains, they say, the direct route always
leads from summit to summit. An experienced mountaineer, DJ Koze also leads
us along winding paths, up through shady valleys and high over the clouds.

1995 comes Kenny Larkin's staggering long player 'Metaphor'. Larkin's 2nd
full length under his own name sees the Detroit firebrand continuing his
singular approach to techno and electronic music with this set of futurist
leaning jams that still stands head and shoulders above today in 2021. Packed
to the brim with soul, emotion and depth 'Metaphor' is the natural successor
to 'Azimuth' released only the year before, it's the manifestation of Larkins
'techno soul' agenda laid bare through the fusing motor-city minimalism,
driving techno-funk and deep as the ocean ambience and melody to deliver a
truly original and awakened collection of timeless tracks. As with his other
LPs and projects, this record is a remarkable document and testament to how ahead
of the curve Kenny Larkin was / is as a producer and creator. It's quite hard
to believe these signals were beamed down to us in the midst of the 1990's.
The quality and breadth on display across these discs deftly explains why
these records are so coveted and cherished today and why this expanded

symbol for quality techno music going back 15 years, Jay Lumen makes his solo
EP debut on Drumcode. A dance music journeyman with over 70 releases and a
quality imprint Footwork Audio to his name, Jay Lumen’s solo debut EP on Adam
Beyer’s label is richly deserved. The artist has been in standout form
recently, most notably contributing ‘Galactic Rainbow’ to A-Sides Vol.10, one
of the highlights of the compilation. We got our first taste of Lumen on
Drumcode way back in 2012 when he teamed with Gary Beck for the rhythmic gem
‘Lotus’. Nine years on, his next EP offering doesn’t disappoint. ‘Returning’
is marked by crushing drumlines and shuffling beats, before gradually
building into an emotional chord driven cut that looks hopefully towards the
future. ‘Mind’ contrasts this perfectly, a loopy monster that rolls for days,

Gerber’s Rumors recruits Öona Dahl and Amber Cox aka Slumber for a dose of
psychedelic house on the ‘Twin Moon EP’ this May. Slumber’s previous outings
for the likes of Nervous, Viva Recordings and Desert Hearts have seen them
push an otherworldly, dreamlike sound and this debut for Gerber’s imprint
sees the pair turn in the most accomplished expression of their heady

catalogue, 3MB feat. Magic Juan Atkins. Initially released in 1992, Juan
Atkins joined forces with Moritz von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann, for the
second iteration of the latter duo’s 3 Men in Berlin project, producing a
monumental collaboration between Berlin and Detroit that profoundly affected
the path forward for techno music. The impact this album holds is evident in
how it elevates beyond a singular or separable representation of its origins.
Instead, it resonates through a collaborative nature that reflects its
inherent melting pot. Where hints of each member’s sound - Atkins’ mangled
and bouncing funk, von Oswald’s purist echoes and foundation rumblings, and
Fehlmann’s ambient meshes - may be heard coalescing in a slipstream, and at
other times tussling in fervent unfoldings. It may be almost 30 years old,
but it remains deeply innovative at its core - folding and warping,
unrelenting from its vision. Densely packed is a propulsive drive of
discordant bubbling and jazz-induced textures. Featuring much-beloved tracks
such as Jazz Is The Teacher and Die Kosmischen Kuriere, Atkins, von Oswald
and Fehlmann forming an emission bound together as a mould of metropolis
navigation. Be it amid destructed realities harbouring the bleakest of

Lee
'Scratch' Perry's Black Ark Studio opened its doors in 1974. Situated in his
backyard at 5 Washington Gardens, Kingston, Jamaica. Using only basic
equipment, a Teac Four-Track Recorder, a Sound craft mixing desk, an Echoplex
delay unit and later adding a Phaser effects unit that he used in conjunction
with his Roland RE201 Space Echo. He managed mixing down the tracks from Four
track to Two track to make his distinctive whirling sound that sets apart the
Black Ark Sound from the other Jamaican Studios. Born Rainford Hugh Perry, 28
March 1936, Hanover, Jamaica. He began his career at the grand age of 16,
working for Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd’s sound system, rising quickly to the
position of record scout and organising recording sessions during his 3-year
period 1963-1966. Restlessness and unsatisfied with credit he felt due to him
he moved on to work with Producers J.J. Johnson and Clancy Eccles, the latter
of which would help him set up his ‘Upsetter’ label in 1968, which would see
his first of many recordings telling the injustices done to him by previous
employers. ‘The Upsetter’ track itself pointed at Mr Dodd but reflected to
Perry when he inherited it as a nick name alongside many others during the
course of his career, including ‘Scratch’, again taken from one of his
recordings ‘Chicken Scratch’ recorded in 1965/1966. Perrys work in 1968 with
producer Joe Gibbs was fruitful and resulted in many successful releases, but
again feeling a lack of credit and itchy feet, it was time to move on. Still
not having a studio of his own, Perry recorded at the various Kingston
establishments at the time, Randy’s Studio 17 on North Parade, Dynamics on
Bell Road and Harry J’s on Roosevelt Avenue where the bulk of the
aforementioned recordings with The Wailers were carried out. His dream was
always to build his own studio and not to have to work to the constraints of
the other studios and producers. On opening the Black Ark studios, the hits
seemed to come immediately. Firstly with Junior Byles' 'Curly Locks' and in
1975 the massive crossover hit Susan Cadogans' 'Hurt So Good' that reached No
4 in the UK charts.1976 saw Island Records releasing Perrys vast output,
timeless material like the Heptones 'Party Time', Max Romeo's 'War Inna
Babylon' Bob Marley and the Wailers 'Jah Live', 'Punky Reggae Party' and
Junior Murvins 'Police and Thieves' to name but a few.But sometimes missing
out on a few classics like Perrys own 'Roast Fish, Collie Weed & Corn
Bread' and possibly one of the best reggae albums of all time The Congos
'Heart of the Congos'. Dub releases like 'Revolution Dub' (1975) showed a way
forward for his production skills in this formidable arena. Having his own
studio allowed him to build up a vast catalogue of tracks to work on. We have
culled together some lost productions that Lee Perry carried out with singer
Mike Brookes, a fine singer, arranger from that special time in the Black
Arks history. Sounding like Junior Marvin in parts and Max Romeo in others
but still carrying a distinctive Falsetto voice. Some classic tracks as you
can see recorded with the cream of musicians at Lee Perrys disposal. Mr Perry
works his magic that gives these songs that distinctive feel that his output.

Berlin, known for their raw but precise and cutting productions. Their
reputation for a strikingly energetic live show brought them into clubs and
festivals around the globe. It seems almost ironic that in the midst of a
pandemic their new 4 track EP "Der Rest Der Nacht" ("The Rest
Of The Night") appears to be their clubbiest release ever. Massive kick
drums, rave-like leads and hard-hitting impacts encapsulated in a detailed
production - a sound that makes you long for dark concrete industrial clubs.

Vernon is a relatively new face on the house music scene. Hailing from the
Channel Islands and currently based in Swansea, the young producer mines
memories of his travels and brings gentle, seaswept beats to the fore in his
debut vinyl release, Amber Fade EP on Shall Not Fade's blissed out sublabel
Lost Palms. The record opens out with clamouring field recordings taken on
Vernon's travels in Japan; the cacophony melts effortlessly into the muted
beauty of "Amber Fade", its cold synths and sombre chords striking
a perfect emotional balance. "Tilted" similarly plays with ambient
elements, lush pads easing their way out of the sounds of a waterfall but the
natural sounds are contrasted by a touch of acidic 303. This hint of the club
is forefronted in "Late Nights", which dials up the energy with
chunky big room drum loops, a stirring piano section showing Vernon can turn
up the heat without losing the emotional side. On the B-side, "This
Moment (I Feel)" toys with a muzak sound palette and dazed poolside
beats. "Disappear" lean heavily on an electro beat; but for a hazy
elongated drop it's a heady dancefloor number, before easing off again into
the closing track. "Start Again" is full of texture and character,
cleverly arpeggiated synths cascading over a soft house jam |

Record Italy presents a reissue of Model 11-29's "Wot Times," a
particularly inspired work by the legendary Sangy that transforms
"Rapper's Delight" into a slice of Italo-balearic ecstasy. On the
vocal version, drums sit between disco and electro as they boogie down to a
breakdance beat, with greasy funk basslines slapping and sliding in support.
Solar dub chords pulsate through anthemic pattens, pads blow across the mix
like a warming ocean breeze, synth leads sparkle in coral colorations, and
those classic Sugar Hill Gang lyrical flows are reconfigured into an
ebullient spoken word rap, which is then morphed by futuristic fx and
interspersed with shouts, grunts, and call-and-response chants. On the flip,
the instrumental version walks with more of a sexual disco strut, resulting

socialist electronica was considered lost. Composed by famed Croatian artist
Tomislav Simovic for the 1981 sci-fi extravaganza Visitors from the Galaxy
which included men with breasts, beautiful alien heroine and Jan Svankmajer monster
on killing spree, it is now found and published by Fox & His Friends
label team. This gatefold limited LP release on 180g vinyl includes
soundtrack cut from the original master tapes restored by Paul Alexander from
Cedar Audio Ltd., extensive liner notes in English by Zeljko Luketic and
Irena Paulus, new artwork insert spread with film set photographs and colour
