Ukrainian
don Stanislav Tolkachev resurfaces with his debut solo four-tracker for RYC.
Not quite swerving from the sonic pathway his name has become synonymous with
over the years, ever so alien and transporting, Tolkachev's latest boasts the
very exact qualities that have made his sound stand out from others, earning
him a constantly growing crowd of heirs and imitators along the way. Breaking
the trip in, 'Up The Steel Stairway' sets the tone for the EP without further
ado. Sniping hails of steadily frantic, arpeggiated synth chords and
puncturing kick drums that'll have you dancing like one rolls with the
punches, Tolkachev sails into the eye of the cyclone all guns blazing.
Lacking no pounding heft either, 'The Less You Know' slits a way open into your
head through a carefully dissonant symbiosis of corrosive synth lines and
octave-shifting bass gone astray. On-the-edge techno at its rowdiest, most
mentally challenging. Flip the coin and here comes the deranged,
trouble-brewing 'One More To Go'. Cranking the mind-bogglingness a notch
further, this one bulldozers its way past all sanity thresholds without
blinking |

darkness" to quote Yellow Magic Orchestra. Opener Laplace Formal is a
moody, hyper melodic piece for a dreamy dance floor. The oddly titled second
track, The Dry Canal, is the centerpiece of the EP. Dry, deep and stomping
acid taking you through a tunnel of sound - the two dark droney melody lines
slowly but surely turn the piece into something truly epic and
unforgettable... Opening the flipside, Empty Sea 1000 is a slow, lazy acid
cut from another dimension, very nice! Lucan 303 Distribution Service is
heavy on the kick. Basic at first, it later turns into a wonderfully melodic
Rephlex-like cut. Last one, Laplace Formal (Navs' No Jacket Required Remix)
is a laidback and more euphoric version of the EP's opening track |

Afrosound's
mission was to emulate the guitar-heavy tropical sounds emanating from Perú
and Ecuador at the time. To add to the hippie vibe, there were plenty of
whacky improvised vocal asides (called 'inspiraciones'), plus custom fuzz,
wah-wah, flange and echo effects boxes for the guitar and keyboards. A
barrage of odd sounding synths, drum machines and other electronic flourishes
were also sprinkled in to spice up the proceedings. The dozen tracks on
Afrosound's debut long play make for a surprisingly diverse palette from
which these Colombian musicians painted their daring portrait of Peruvian
cumbia, returning the favor in bold colors that still resonate almost 50
years later. "La danza de los mirlos" kicks off with most famous
Afrosound hit of all, 'Caliventura', a genius blend of funk and cumbia. Also,
there are several covers including various Colombian costeño classics, a
groove oriented son montuno / cumbia hybrid, Fruko's bomba-funk ditty 'El
chorrillo', the melancholic psychedelic cumbia 'Esperando por ti' and the
rocking cumbia andina gem 'Cabeza de chorlito'. This lovingly restored
reissue features the artwork for the Peruvian edition, which was licensed and
issued by Lima's El Virrey label in 1974 |

Noel
Redding made a big splash as bassist with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, but he
was really a guitarist, having played with singer-songwriter Neil Landon in
the Brunettes as a teenager. When Redding left the Experience, and Landon
quit Engelbert Humperdinck's band, the pair formed Fat Mattress with
Humperdinck's drummer, Eric Dillon, and bassist Jim Leverton, signing to
Polydor for the self-titled debut album in 1969. Second album Fat Mattress II
benefits from the presence of expressive keyboardist Mick Weaver, aka Wynder
K Frogg, and on some tracks, Quartermass guitarist Steve Hammond, but Redding
remains the major draw, as heard on the songs 'Highway,' 'At The Ball' and
'People'. As with its predecessor, the album is based largely on the
pleasantly-melodic shades of psychedelic folk rock, with a few rough rock
edges along the way. This edition has a rare album outtake, 'Hall Of Kings,'
and 1970 single B-side 'Black Sheep Of The Family' as bonus tracks. The album
emphasizes that Redding was a superb guitarist as well as a fine songwriter,
giving a different perspective on his contributions in Jimi's band and beyond |

Monstrum Z Galaxie Arkana; Gaeste Aus Der Galaxis; I Visitatori Della
Galassia Arcana; Goscie Z Galaktyki Arkana; Los Visitantes De La Galaxia) are
arranged, composed, conducted and produced by Tomislav Simovic. This
compilation includes additional screen sounds from the unpublished tapes of
composer Tomislav Simovic also featured in Dusan Vukotic film. With courtesy
of Tomislav Simovic estate artists were given complete creative freedom to
remix, reinvent and re-imagine the futuristic soundscape of first
science-fiction film in Yugoslavia that was scored in analog, abstract,
electronic and synthesised music. Alen & Nenad Sinkauz, Ali Renault,
Anatolian Weapons, Credit 00, Drvg Cvltvre, Goran Vejvoda, Heinrich Dressel,
Repeated Viewing, Security DJ, Tapan and Timothy Fife got the sounds from
Tomislav Simovic score and embarked on a musical journey that had no rule or
predetermined direction or genre; it was only their creativity inspired by
Visitors From The Galaxy sound that led them to a new pieces, more or less
experimental, abstract or dance floor friendly. The diversity of music goes
wide and deep, it is modern and made by the stars of today paying homage to a
composer who always retreated in being a star. As the remix projects of this
kind are still very rare and include famous names like Ennio Morricone, Steve
Reich or Peter Thomas Orchestra, Tomislav Simovic is now finally, one might

Hitting
us with a double LP of sublime dance music lingering on the border of
ambience, Interstate is the alter ego of DJ Swagger. Earlier this year, he
graced Shall Not Fade's Time Is Now sub label in collaboration with DJ
Aedidias for four feelgood UKG cuts - now returning for the second album in
the Seasons Series, expect something a little different. Dominion Swing is
his first LP under the Interstate moniker. The four sides of vinyl hold their
fair share of punchy kick drums and funky melodies, though across them is a
blissed out ambient softness that comes to the forefront by the end.
"Doublet Doureet" is a low end groover driven by skippy percs, the
speedy bass melody chilled out with some lingering natural chords.
"Second Mass" is futuristic and clean cut, tickling the ear with
panning synth stabs and a powerful electro bassline that cuts through the
track sharply, giving memories of the dancefloor while perfectly leading into
"Habitat" - the sustained ambient shimmer that closes the A side.
Onto the reverse side, "This Rather Than That" and
"Misty" are glitchy, playful evening music, "Misty"
leaning into a fun organ ditty. The almost imperceptible bassline of
"Two To Get Ready" hangs in the air giving it a dub atmosphere.
More genre exploration is to be found on the C side, from the pulsing but
delicate house of "Appliance" to the tranquil guitar-lead journey
of "Condone The Drama", ending with a return to blissful, oceanic
ambience in "Bubblebath". The closing side of Dominion Swing stays
in this vein - blissed out haze is soaked into summer sundowner
"Ascension" and its romantic melodies. "Stigma" is built
on misty ambient pads but carries a persistent heartbeat rhythm, fading
slowly into album closer "Yosemites" tropical field recordings and
scattered drum hits |

celestial sound, full of warmth & profound vibes. No Room kicks things
off with a dark twist: the title track is held hostage to a deep but powerful
baseline that will take control of all your senses with its hypnotizing
effects. A lovely piece of minimal techno with simple but perfectly cut
elements. Next up, things start to pick up as we discover that Phantom is a
track full of groovy vibes and a steady tempo that will get your feet moving.
That’s perfect because the one that follows, Shake, really does shake things
up. A total madness of background noises and acid sounds make for a track that
would fit perfectly in the middle of the night at an underground club. The
curtain falls with True Blue. This one completes the circle as it returns to
a darker theme and weighty sound. The baseline is strong but linear and the

Fraternity
recordings 1963-1967. When Lonnie
Mack's treatment of Chuck Berry's 'Memphis' broke into the US Hot 100 on 8
June 1963 and peaked at 5 during its 13-week stay, he was initially
pigeonholed as an instrumental artist. This perception was heightened by
'Down In The Dumps' on the flip, and furthered by his double-sided
instrumental follow-up whose topside, ham!', reached 28. Six months later the
other side of Lonnie was revealed with his first vocal 45. The topside was a
dynamic re-vamp of Jimmy Reed's 'Baby, What's Wrong', backed with a version
of the gospel classic 'Where There's A Will'. Here you could hear him emoting
in a way white singers never did - hollering, pleading and screaming in the
very finest gospel tradition. The track was even picked up by some black
radio stations in the south, but quietly dropped once it was realised that
Lonnie was white. 'Memphis' was recorded at King Records Studio in Cincinnati
on 12 March 1963. Carl Edmondson had been booked to produce a split session
for Max Falcon, Kenny Smith and the Charmaines, but Edmondson's band had
recently broken up, so Lonnie and his crew were drafted in. With some time
left at the end of the session, Lonnie was asked if he had anything he might
like to record. 'Memphis' was the result. Edmondson thought the track had
potential and suggested to Fraternity Records boss, Harry Carlson, that he
should put it out. Within weeks it was climbing the charts, launching
Lonnie's long career. Post-Fraternity
releases on Elektra, Capitol, Epic and Alligator cemented his reputation as
the man who brought gospel, soul, blues, country and rock'n'roll together. He
was one of the creators of blue-eyed soul, as well as the leading light for
the legion of blues-based rock guitarists who plied their trade from the 60s
onwards. It has to be said, though, that the bedrock of his legend rests on
his Fraternity recordings, which highlighted both sides of Lonnie Mack - the
vocalist and the guitarist |

Harold Land, one of the greatest
West Coast tenor saxophone voices of all time. A strong player rooted in Bop
language, famous for his role in the legendary Max Roach and Clifford Brown
quintet and later as part of another great Los Angeles based combo such as
bassist's Curtis Counce group. The Fox is a 1960 album originally released on
the Hifijazz label and reissued by Contemporary in 1969. Here Land is at the
head of a marvelous quintet, some sort of who-s who of the LA jazz scene,
Dupree Bolton - trumpet, Elmo Hope - piano, Herbie Lewis - bass, and Frank
Butler - drums. Besides the well known instrumental skills of these
musicians, the album displays four superior compositions by the great pianist
Elmo Hope and two Land's originals. Music that combines a deep feeling for
the Blues and a highly sophisticated West Coast sound approach. This is
high-quality hard bop, easily recommended to fans of straight-ahead jazz |

Photos on the Dance Floor! Berlin Techno 1992–Today', compiled by Heiko
Hoffmann, follows a hugely successful photography and video art exhibition by
the same name that was co-curated by Hoffmann and shown at C/O Berlin in late
2019. The exhibition included works by photographers and visual artists such
as Wolfgang Tillmans, Romual Karmakar, Sven Marquardt and Camille Blake, that
dealt with Berlin’s club culture since the fall of the wall. It was followed
in 2020 by a book of the same name which collected together the most striking
imagery from the exhibition alongside interviews and personal essays. 'No
Photos on the Dance Floor!' is the first compilation to trace the history of
techno made in Berlin over the last three decades, with a selection of
classics and hidden gems that have helped shape Berlin’s sound from the early
90s until now. The title refers to a particularity of the Berlin club scene:
photography is banned in almost all the important clubs to allow partying
together in a space where you can lose yourself to the music and feel free
and safe at the same time. Part 1 of the vinyl edition focuses on the period
between 1992 and 2006, with early 90s tracks by Thomas Fehlmann and Moritz
von Oswald’s 3MB project (who teamed up with Detroit’s Juan Atkins on
compilation opener 'The 4th Quarter'), Berlin techno pioneer DJ Tanith and
Mijk van Dijk’s short-lived project 9-10-Boy, von Oswald’s and Ernestus’
influential Maurizio alias, and Alec Empire, who would later go on to start
influential noise/industrial band Atari Teenage Riot. Further key tracks from
the first half of the aughts come from Mo Loschelder and Klaus Kotai’s
Elektro Music Department label, Sleeparchive and Ableton Live-developer
Robert Henke aka Monolake In addition to the two-part vinyl release, 'No
Photos on the Dance Floor!' will also be available in expanded CD &
digital formats, featuring additional tracks by Rødhad, Efdemin and Ricardo
Villalobos |

After
the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, abandoned spaces and buildings were waiting to
be filled with new life in the form of clubs, bars, galleries, workshops, and
studios. Berlin became the epicenter of a new nightlife culture that soon
resonated around the world. Berlin’s techno scene was heavily influenced by
the pioneering sounds of Detroit techno created by African-American producers
such as Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson and Underground Resistance. Their
records were imported to the Berlin DJ scene by the record store Hardwax,
based on the ground floor of a building on Reichenberger Straße in Kreuzberg,
from December 1989 onward. The original temples of DJ culture in New York amd
Chicago, as well as the emerging rave culture developing in London and Manchester
via Ibiza, would also go on to shape Berlin’s nightlife. Party series like
Tekknozid and clubs such as Ufo, Tresor, and Planet can retrospectively be
interpreted as the big bang of the first shared culture between Germany's
East and West, having paved the way for what is still the last and biggest
expression of European youth culture. Part 2 is drawn from tracks made
between 2007 and today, starting at a point when the city became the center
for a new creative community of international artists, DJs and producers who
often favoured the minimalist aesthetic & musical styles of clubs such as
Berghain, Bar25 and Watergate and stayed for the ease of living. Beginning
with a remix by Plastikman aka Richie Hawtin of his Minus label signee Heartthrob,
the two 12"s also feature contributions from Ben Klock, Avalon Emerson
and Modeselektor. The record was compiled by Heiko Hoffmann, former editor of
Groove magazine and co-curator and co-editor of the 'No Photos on the Dance
Floor!' exhibition and accompanying book. The double-vinyl release also
features full-format photography by George Nebieridze and Wolfgang Tillmans |

With three EPs and an A-Sides cut
to his name, Marco Faraone has been an invaluable label contributor, dating
back to his Drumcode debut in 2013. The Italian remains one of scene’s most
versatile producers, a torchbearer of both house and techno and able to craft
both with masterful ease. Coming off two albums in 2020, his inspired form
rolls on throughout ’21, with ‘Our Freedom’, his memorable fourth EP
contribution to Adam Beyer’s label. ‘Burn Down’ is an evocative vocal-led
trip, made just as much for the headphones as the dancefloors of the future.
Led by layers of laser-kissed riffs and a resistance-leading vocal, the title
track is an emotion-charged anthem-in-the-making. ‘Orbital’ has bags of
personality and pep, bringing the vibe to a more optimistic place, with a
silky melody line and plenty of effortless groove. ‘Magic Sunset’ is the
cream on top; the percussion pulsating and punchy, as cascades of
goosebump-inducing synths unfurl beautifully throughout the six-minute jam |

After
German producer Wigbert’s debut LP’s release on Second State in January,
industry heavyweights such as Matrixxman, Mørbeck, Jeroen Search, Anthony
Linell and Pan-Pot themselves share their interpretations of his work in
‘Distorted Matter Remixes' EP. Starting off strong is Mørbeck’s version of
‘Reflection’, with a charging kick drum and heavy acid line powering the
momentum. Furious cymbals and a high pitched synth line push the tempo, while
a brief breakdown switches up the rhythm before cutting back into line. Up
next is Matrixxman’s Labyrinth remix of ‘Automatic Loop’, a dubbed out bass
heavy edit where a galloping kick drum pushes along with determination.
Modular sounds tweet and intertwine with themselves, while minor chords chime
in between furious sporadic cymbal crashes. Last on the A-side are Second
State label heads Pan-Pot with their edit of ‘Xcelerator’. Surrounded by a
thumping kick drum and shooting snares, a distorted vocal reverberates its
way throughout uttering the name of the track. Bellowing electro synths cap
off this heavyweight techno roller. On the flip side Jeroen Search delivers
his version of ‘Focus’: a percussive workout with an array of different drums
working simultaneously together. Mischievous synth lines are balanced by
uplifting organ chords. Handclaps and cymbals build energy and anticipation
before the melody takes over again. Last up is Anthony Linell's Sunday
Adventure Club (S.A.C.) remix of ‘Reflection’ |

Why You Started is meant to be a message for everyone, including myself, to
look back to your roots -where anything you do is influenced by nothing but
passion" -Regal. Regal's genre-bending sound has been capturing the
hearts and minds of ravers and industry heads since 2012. His staunch
productions have garnered support from techno's well-established vanguard,
including noted collaborations, projects and remixes with Amelie Lens,
Hadone, Nina Kraviz, Ellen Allien, Emmanuel Top and Len Faki. Regal's sound
graces clubland with full-throttle impact -whether at the legendary Berghain,
Awakenings, Possession or his residency at Khidi in Tibilisi. Alongside his
own productions, Regal's imprint Involve has become established for delivering
sharpened 303 infused acid sounds. The imprint has welcomed artists including
Boston 168, FJAAK and Alignment and is now also the home for his debut album
this June. "The concept has changed a few times over the past few
years" says Regal. The focus was to make an album that tells the story
of his personal struggles and self-discovery, a dark insight into the DJ's
life, influenced mainly by Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy', where Dante has
to cross all the layers of hell and purgatory to arrive in paradise. It opens
with 'Respect' and its razor-sharp synth lines clamber over distorted vocal
shots and glistening melodic elements. An apt introduction to Regal's
earth-shattering sound. 'Burning Old Idols' plunges listeners into a
four-to-the-floor techno domain, surrounded by industrial rhythm and a
searing 303 acid-line for extensive club use.'She Dances Alone' is a love
trip. It bumps up the BPM for a glorious 90's techno spirited track with
refreshing melodic accompaniment -the drum production is reminiscent of the
militant Detroit sound we all know and love. 'Dungeon Master' emits a
seemingly demonic presence as warping synths intertwine with staggered kick
drums and lasering sound effects.Title track 'Remember Why You Started' flows
effortlessly between gristly acid basslines and weightless ambient pads, the
spaciousness of the composition is something to be revered. 'Requiem for a
Friend', featuring piano virtuoso Fabrizio Rat, conveys leftfield
arpeggiators suspended in a melancholic chord progression |

Far
Out Recordings proudly presents two previously unreleased tracks of glorious
Brazilian sunshine music. Written and recorded in 1978 by pianist, composer,
sound engineer, studio owner and former amateur skateboarding champion
Ricardo Bomba, ‘Eu Sei’ and ‘Flutuando’ were almost doomed to total obscurity
when the master tapes were binned following a ruthless studio clear out.
Luckily Bomba kept a cassette tape copy from which Far Out has remastered the
release for 7” vinyl. Throughout a varied career, which included a four year
stint as bandleader of Jorge Ben’s live show (78-82), Ricardo Bomba had a
string of idiosyncratic, underground pop hits throughout the 80s, including
‘Você Vai Se Lembrar’ which recently featured on Soundway’s Onda De Amor (Synthesized
Brazilian Hits That Never Were 1984-94) compilation, as well as his then
award-winning, now obscure solo album Ultralight (1988). With the stunning
vocals of Mariana Couto (the first wife of Chicago percussionist Laudir de
Oliveira), legendary drummer Peninha who has recorded with the likes of Jorge
Ben, Quarteto Em Cy, Lincoln Olivetti, Tony Bizarro and Gal Costa, and
Brazilian guitarist Blimba Buarque, “Eu Sei” and “Flutuando” truly are lost
gems of the late ‘70s Rio de Janeiro MPB scene |

female voice echo the track title in Raven's trippy cut 'Metal On Metal',
with light airy synths to close out that simulate euphoria. We're taken on a
dark and weighteir expedition with Frazi.er in 'Systematic Ignorance' - a

characterized by distorted keys and commanding kicks. Brooklyn's Xiorro

propels the ripened samara, helicoptering from their stems. "Crimson
Breath" relieves the tension with a chilled out and dubby trip. We're

comforted in a safe haven. Next, "Autumn Moon" gently guides us on
a psychedelic excursion laced with intricate dribbling acid lines and breaky

courtesy of Italian hardware fetishist Anna Funk Damage (previously heard on
the likes of Mind Records, Lux Rec, Lazy Tapes and more) and
Austrian-Hungarian outfit Dutch Courage - alias Superskin & Uj Bala -
each of whom step up to the plate to deliver an exquisitely ear-wormy slice
of their deranged industrial gospel. A-side starts off to the sound of AFD's
hard bouncin' "48 Hours Death" - a raw-cooked deluge of
head-reducing EBM grit, flaring binary signals and Giallo-infused arpeggios
out a blood-stained Suspirian tale. Fear for the deadly scalp hunters lurking
in the club's darkest nooks, they've just sniffed out your trail. Brutal
churner "Youssef" picks up the torch and pulls out the
quake-inducing breaks without further ado, dressed out with languorous
Orientalistic melodies and steely distortions tailored to bend mind by the dozens.
Forged in the furnace, the full-out punk-minded "I Come From Fire"
rounds off the side on a drum and bass-heavy note, drawing as much from 60s
psych-garage as it does from 80s deconstructionist tape music |

Mac found his mission into dj'ing and 10 years that he laid his foundation
stone as producer. Since that, Paul Mac recorded tracks for over 30 labels
and with nearly 100 releases now to his name it's probably fair to call him
an inveterate artist of the scene. The past couple of years have seen Paul's
profile raised dramatically thanks to his high profile releases on Primate,
Intec, Primevil, Phont or on Ben Sim's label Ingoma. Paul Mac's first album
"Old School Former Pupil" was released in 1998 on Fragmented
Recordings and five years later his second album "Push Came To

Washington
DC-based Lurid Music welcomes Belgian producer YNV for his debut album
entitled "Golden Hour Ritual" that showcases his entrancing blend
of avant exotica, Middle Eastern mysticism and cabaret electronica. YNV was
born in Brussels in 1979 and moved to California in 2013. He has so far
released tracks on Invisible Inc and Emotional Response. Along with his
upcoming debut album on Lurid Music, he has a single ready to be released on
Neubau. He is a video artist and music curator for the Vague Terrain nights
in San Francisco. In his music, as with his videos, he exploits the liminal
space between our most disparate emotional states and the tenuous thread that
binds our inner world to reality at its face value. Carrying the torch of his
Euro roots, you hear the influence of his homeland with some California
sunshine and a palm tree thrown in for good measure. His LP for Lurid Music
features nine original tracks of a brooding cinematic nature, transporting
you to the sheltering courtyard shade of a desert riad where every movement
seems as theatrically measured and eccentrically calculated as anything
Tuxedomoon or The Residents ever produced. The LP closes with a slow acid
trance remix from Anatolian Weapons |

percussive roughness and slick execution, or between brooding darkness and
beams of radiance, colour the sound and hold your gaze. The pristine techno

LOSS004:
The Fruit Club is a big nod back to the famous 'Fruit Club' event that was
held at The Brunel Rooms in Swindon throughout the 90s. This is where Soul
Intent first heard dnb as it should be via underground hero's like Doc Scott,
Kemistry & Storm, and DJ Lee. Infact even the label artwork has been
designed around their old flyers (big up to DJ Faydz & Stephen Reid for
permission to use the Fruit Club logo). The track itself features all the
elements of those classic mid 90s tracks along with production and
arrangement straight out of 2015. On hearing Soul Intent drop it as his first
tune Dillinja hunted Alex down and asked for the tune, which he smashed in
every set through out his busy 2014 festival season. Dropping the track at
Outlook both Doc Scott and Xtra ran up to the DJ booth asking Dillinja what
the track was. They both have since championed the track and helped it become
one of the hottest dubplates of 2014. Would Have Loved You has been getting a
lot of interest from DJ's and clubbers alike. Janette Thompson's beautiful
vocals (written herself) ride over a tough break and sinister distorted
bassline. A fine example of Soul Intents love of combining rough with smooth
fused with that classic 90s headz vibe. LOSS005: "1,2,3,4" is a
collaboration with old skool legend DJ Tango (Formation, Moving Shadow).
Having made contact with Tango (just to say hello), a conversation about
working together resulted in Tango heading up to Nottingham for a studio
session. "1,2,3,4" is the end result, a jazzy roller with a massive
double bass bassline plus the usual Soul Intent flavors. This has been firmly
stuck in the DJ sets of Fabio and LTJ Bukem respectively. "Go
Hustle" highlights (yet again) Soul Intents love for that classic
Bristol sound. A Full Cycle stepper with funk licks and vocal samples from
old detective shows continue the retro feel. We can't claim it's 'future'
just good-old-fashioned drum and bass. "Late Night Sleaze" is the
title track, and a personal favourite of Soul Intent. This dirty roller oozes
soul and funk. Indeed, dirty funk as only Soul Intent can deliver |

Rückzugsort zu nutzen wissen. Und er hat Bias & Mettphonic, die beide, so
sehr man auch schlecht über Duisburg und seinen Park redet, mit ihm verbunden
sind. Im Herzen der Stadt gelegen war er ihre verruchte Wohlfühloase um nach
den Produktionen in die neuen Werke zu lauschen und die Gedanken schweifen zu
lassen. Gedanken, die nur der Musik und nicht ihrem Ego dienlich waren. So

New York-based Arlene Farber, who
later had a bit part in The French Connection, was renamed Arlene Tiger by
future husband, Jerry Gross, for the lurid Female Animal, one of the
exploitat ion films he directed and distributed in the late 60s and early 70s
(here under the alias Juan Carlo Grinella). With a debauched plot about the
raunchy misfortunes that befell an attractive peasant girl (with Gross
appearing as a pimp), the film benefitted from a lush soundtrack by the Clay
Pitts Orchestra, written and conducted by the enigmatic Pitts himself (the
alias of US composer Derek Ware). This easy listening LP is a true stunner of
the genre, a must-have for all fans of lounge music, as well as original
exploitation soundtracks |

the fight against Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, schizophrenia and other diseases
characterized by an imbalance in neuronal activity, there are chemical
weapons, such as those that try to prevent the protein fragments known as
beta-amyloid plaques from developing in the cerebral cortex , and physical,
such as electrical stimulation that allow to restore the functionality of
brain cells. This last resort, which has already been shown to be effective
in modifying the activity of the cerebral cortex, is today a weapon of
general intervention. Converting it to precision requires the development of
individualized and predictive brain models that allow identifying where and
how much to stimulate each patient. To achieve this, an international
European team is working on the creation of virtual replicas of the most

Christian
Hornbostel’s third LP Liber Tertius serves as a summation of Hornbostels
recent musical tastes. His defining feature is an immense and overwhelming
sound design. Texture dominates over structure and rhythm. While definitely
not an ambient album, its easy enough to get lost in whats happening in or
around the beats. It's something that anyone who loves electronic music,
sound and sound manipulation, can fall in love with; no one's going to care
about time signatures or genre conventions. It's an instance that astonishes,
not from Hornbostel's deft production touch but by his restraint, his
willingness to indulge in the most beautiful simplicities. As such, it's not
representative, but stands as another surprise from a producer long since
known for them. Whereas Hornbostel's previous albums may have had a tendency
to come across as a collection of tracks presented as an album rather than a
long playing concern that actually flows, Liber Tertius is the opposite. It's
an album of impressive scope and intricate detail, and one that proves that
this German producer, with three decades into his career, has plenty left to
say |

Laurence Guy's inaugural release on UK label Shall Not Fade, Laurence takes
the listener on a journey of beautiful piano riffs, luscious vocal hooks and
laid back, hazy drum sequences. In Laurence's own words: "This record is
a love letter to sampling, there's something cosmic about being able to
express your own feelings through the feelings of others from different eras
and points in time. For me, nothing beats the combination of samples and
synthesisers and I feel encapsulates this more than any other music I've

Shall
Not Fade's Time Is Now series continues to showcase the cutting edge of
breaks and bass oriented club music. This time they introduce Groovy D; this
new solo project of one third of Sheffield-based trio Denham Audio curates a
totally fresh take on garage which is soulful, unique and genre-defying.
Afterworld Groove EP features female vocalists and a collaboration with Time
Is Now regular Interplanetary Criminal; vocal heavy tracks are a highlight of
the record, taking the garage sound away from the confines of the club.
"Outta Control" is one of these tracks; Emma Cannon's vocals walk
the edge between soulful and mournful, contrasting the wild breakbeats and
deep, dirty bass. The title track uses housey intoned keys; this is daytime
garage, made for summer parties. Taking influence from his Sheffield home,
"Keep Movin' On" has a classic bassline sound palette, cheeky
stabbing synths and hyperactive breaks. "Project Zeus" opens the
B-side: stutters of snare and punching bass are broken through with a
classic, uncontrollable bassline; the tongue-in-cheek sample that forms the
drop will undoubtedly bring a smile to British fans. More minimalist B2
"Timeless" is a chorus of bubbling ear candy until the rolling sub
bass looms into a deep, headsy climax. Manchester's Interplanetary Criminal
joins to close the EP; with vocals from Anna Straker, "Higher"
takes a genre-spanning approach in hazey garage percs and soaring pads. The
tempo is down, and misty, romantic sax forms the backbone |
