This is the demo recording
sessions from Television in 1974 under Brian Eno's guidance. TheA SIDE demos
were recorded at Good Vibrations Studios in NYC with Richard Hell on bass,
and produced by Brian Eno and Richard Williams of Island Records.It also includes
three live tracks from CBGB's in 1975 including the unreleased (I Look At You
And Get A) Double Exposure, the band never recorded in studio. An abrasive
13th Floor Elevators number and the inonic Richard Hell (I Belong To The)
Blank Generation It is fascinating listening to the early versions of these
songs that eventually appeared on 'Marquee Moon'. Each versions are
distinctly different having a 'harder edge' to them and closer to the final

1980 in suburban Cerritos, about 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles, with
frontman Mike Magrann, guitarist Kimm Gardener, bassist Larry Kelly and
drummer Mike Burton. Signing to Posh Boy in 1981, their eponymous EP had the
hit 'Manzanar,' which was championed by John Peel on the BBC. Posh Boy
founder Robbie Fields was in the producer's chair for their excellent debut,
Fear of Life, a blistering punk assault on American values. Free from the
heavy metal leanings of their later work, this no-holds-barred debut is a

An acid rock LP on the Isley
Brothers' T-Neck label? Yes, the unlikely collaboration resulted from a Jimi
Hendrix concert at New York's Syracuse University, supported by the Isleys
and mixed soul-rock group, Soul Survivors, who had worked with Tom Bell and
Gamble & Huff. When Soul Survivors morphed into Privilege, they convinced
the Isleys to sign them to T-Neck, the result being this rare self-titled
album, a fine set of hard-rocking originals, expertly produced by the Isleys
with plenty of stereo panning, blistering guitar from frontman Edward
Leonetti, atmospheric organ from Paul Venturini and melodic bass lines from
Jack Douglas, later an engineer for Aerosmith, Lou Reed and Cheap Trick. A
true classic, not to be missed! |

Jazz Records’ new Studio One collection ‘Fire Over Babylon: Dread, Peace and
Conscious Sounds at Studio One’ features a stellar selection of 70s roots
music – classic and rare tracks recorded at Clement Dodd’s musical empire at
13 Brentford Road in the 1970s. Rastafarian-inspired Roots music was an
ever-important aspect of Studio One’s output from the start of the 1970s
onwards and this album features many of the ground-breaking groups and
artists that established the sound of Jamaica during this decade and beyond.
Featured here are seminal artists such as Freddie McGregor, The Wailing
Souls, The Gladiators, Horace Andy, Devon Russell, Cedric Brooks, Count
Ossie, Judah Eskender Tafari alongside a host of lesserknown rare cuts made
at Studio One from artists such as The Prospectors, Viceroys and Pablove
Black. Studio One and founder Clement Dodd’s connection with Rastafarianism
dates back to the early 1960s, with Dodd accompanying members of the
Skatalites up to the hills of Kingston to listen to the music of the
Rastafarian Count Ossie and his drummers. The album sleevenotes discuss how
Clement Dodd’s musical links, as well as his role in heading the most
important record label in Reggae, are in many ways linked to the beliefs of
Rastafarianism. This album is released as a heavyweight black vinyl

reworks from Krust’s lauded masterpiece ‘The Edge Of Everything’. The
selection of top-drawer artists delighted to rub shoulders with the revered
master now adds UNKLE, Hodge and DJ Nature to a list that has seen Masters At
Work, Four Tet, Damian Lazarus, Batu, Calibre, LCY and Flynn all deliver
inspired re-rubs. Linking back to a shared history that saw Krust (alongside
Roni Size) remix DJ Krush’s ‘Dig This Vibe’, and also provide their own track
‘Tribetoon’ for the seminal ‘Headz 2’ compilation, both on James Lavelle’s
label Mo’Wax, now the influential DJ/producer/A&R delivers arguably his
best ever work under the UNKLE alias: This is deep breakbeat goodness which
sounds both classic and perfectly now. A sonic son of Krust, fellow
Bristolian Hodge works ‘Constructive Ambiguity’ into a proggy new school
breaks monster that carves the original’s metallic bass into sharp new
shapes, whilst West Country royalty and Wild Bunch founder Milo Johnson AKA
DJ Nature provides wigged-out Martian house by way of New York – which, in
one of Krust’s many thematic circles – echoes the Latin-tinged, blunted

Life boss Alinka readies ‘Universal Motion EP’ for Radio Slave’s Rekids this
June. Previously appearing on the likes of Permanent Vacation, Classic,
NeedWant and Crosstown Rebels, the Ukraine-born, Chicago-raised and
Berlin-based Alinka treats Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint to her ‘Universal
Motion EP’, delivering four party-starters for her first release on the
label. A1’s ‘Universal Motion’, a driving synth-led number, strongly sets the
tone by bringing thick Italo inspired leads and warping synths together to
maximum effect. Moving into the second track, the bouncing ‘Emotion 2
Emotion’ intertwines floating pads and loose, bounding drums for a fun and
highly playable track. On the flip, ‘Round Round’ is a funky yet
stripped-back affair, utilising raucous percussion, well placed vocal hits
and pulsating basslines to create an irresistible groove. Taking the final
spot on the 12”, ‘Reality Love’ sees Alinka draw for stuttering bass, classic
samples and dense synths for an excellent closer to the EP. Alinka’s rep as a
DJ and producer has continued apace in the past few years with some of her
biggest fans being the most notable names in the world of house, disco and
techno and ‘Universal Motion’ shows her at her best |

Mark
Broom releases his ‘Fu¨nfzig’ LP on Radio Slave’s Rekids this July. Stretched
across a double LP, ‘Fu¨nfzig’ is a full-throttle display of Brooms’
funk-laden take on a wide range of electronic-inspired music, covering house,
techno, disco, dub, electro, and beyond. Speaking of the LP, Broom states
that “Fu¨nfzig is a continuation of my previous releases for Rekids &
displays my various styles of House, Techno & the bits in-between”.
‘Mover’ kicks off proceedings with swinging drums and chopped-up piano licks,
moving into the hand-in-the-air, disco-inflected ‘We Gonna Dance’, featuring
vocals from his daughter Ella Fleur. ‘Stark’ takes inspiration from
soundsystem culture, bringing cavernous reverbs atop a monstrous bass while
siren-esque leads ring throughout. Opening the B-side, ‘Let’s Roll’ sees
Broom head into full-blown techno territory, as crunching bass and fierce
drums collide with a series of stabs and whistles, a theme continued in the
no-nonsense steamroller ‘EFX’. ‘Dub Me Good’ closes the B-side with a heady
dose of FX-drenched outboard trickery as mammoth drum hits rocket around a
languid bassline. ‘Machine’ opens the second disc with fluttering synthesis
and robust, dramatic drums for a pounding affair, followed by the bright and
squelchy ‘Memories’ which works its way through emotive pads and crisp drums
before ‘Lovers Rock’ lowers the tempo, bringing swirly atmospherics amongst
machine-driven patterns. The final side of vinyl sees Broom hit the gas pedal
with ‘Living For Ya’, ‘The 114’, and ‘What To Do’, delivering a raucous
finalé of sample-driven, barn-storming disco pumpers. With appearances on
legendary imprints such as Robert Hood’s M-Plant, Warp Records, Pure Plastic,
Bpitch Control, and of course Rekids, Broom is one of the UK’s foremost
techno luminaries. Alongside contemporaries such as Ben Sims, Luke Slater,
Surgeon, and James Ruskin, with collaborations under the Fear Ratio with the
latter counted as favourites amongst fans, Broom has flown the flag for UK techno
for decades. Delivering one of his most accomplished collections of work to
date on ‘Fu¨nfzig’, his return to Radio Slave’s vital Rekids imprint showing
an artist whose best work is far from behind him |

City with music by oracle, Laszlo Umbreit & Mira Sanders. In 2019 oracle
invited artist Mira Sanders to interact with their practice through her
writing. Due to the corona crisis, their shared working time couldn’t happen
in the planned way: “The writing project was originally planned as an
exchange while travelling together one week on the Buratinas boat, navigating
on the canals and rivers starting from Brussels. Due to the sanitary
conditions with the Covid19, the trip together could not be realised or at
least was complicated. Instead of seeing the situation as an obstacle, I saw
it as an opportunity to travel with them from afar. Me, living outside the
city and them, inside. My question was ‘how, through their voices echoing
with the urban spaces, will I imagine the city’s everyday life?’. Because one
of the things that oracle’s practice does is to offer ways to perceive and
encounter the city and its inhabitants. For the texts I was inspired by the
recordings oracle sent me every day during one week. Besides that, the book
Invisible Cities written by Italo Calvino gave me a way of structuring my
imagination.” – Mira Sanders Following this artistic exchange and during a
collaboration with sound artist Laszlo Umbreit, the idea of the record
Reading the City was born. The existing recordings and the written sci-fi
episodes by Mira Sanders functioned as a source of inspiration for the
electronic sound composition Places, infiltrated by the original voices and
city soundscapes. The recordings of the texts From Afar reflect oracle’s
playful and spontaneous way of interacting with their given environment. From
Afar is an invitation for the reader to immerse in the city while being in
movement |

It's always great to have access to quality masters from some of
the world's greatest-ever artists and Gladys Knight hits that spot,
especially via the original 12 inch version of Love Is Always On My Mind is
another one of those impossibly rare Buddah 12 inches from the mid-70s. This
is really a 10 minute plus tour-de-force of relentless Disco with Gladys's
impassioned vocals doing their usual superlative job. Mint 12 inch copies are
reputedly worth £200 but the fact is that there's no mint original ones left
anymore. Until now. Additionally we've cheated slightly by including one of
Gladys Knight & The Pips in-demand Columbia recordings on the flip - the
Ashford & Simpson penned classic Bourgie Bourgie on which Gladys laid
down the definitive vocal to this club classic on the full 4.37 original 12

you a new collaboration between Ojah and Nik Torp. The A side contains the
track “Over Yonder”, an instrumental track featuring wonderful melodica
melodies courtesy of Nik Torp, keyboard player from The Specials. It’s an
introspective and meditative track with a positive twist that was written
during the first UK lockdown, and that invites the listener to look to the
future, to the other side, to look over yonder. On the B side we find “Over
Yonder Dub”, a minimalist dub version mixed live by Ojah with analog effects
that takes you on a trip deep down the echo chamber |

New
inductees to the Permanent Vacation congregation, say hi to Reznik &
Mikesh. To be precise, Mikesh left his mark on the PV backcatalogue in
conjunction with Filburt a couple years back already, but in pairing with
Keinemusik's mainstay Reznik, it is a premiere for the label. They've
previously been dropping joint EP-releases on Mike Simonetti's 2MR imprint
and on Keinemusik respectively, now following up with this three chapter
spanning "Number Done" EP. And frankly, it is quite a ride. From
the roughed up groove monster that is the opener "Number One" -
straight forward in arrangement, yet keeping a tongue in cheek attitude. Rave
launching leads, breakbeat climax, pads to fire up frenzy heaven - it is all
in place. Followed by "DT64" - in title hinting towards the
real-socialist upbringing of the lads, in sound leaning even into Detroit
admiration and Techno realms, yet adding their very own take while flashing
that subtle piano line and keeping things utmost catchy. To the closing
"Almost Wanted", the House-anthem in this batch, building up floor
wreaking, piano driven 808 patterns to follow up with glorious string-shaped
euphoria in a break that is bound to cause numerous dancefloor meltdowns |

The
mighty Lee Perry was the producer many have said, that enticed the best work,
both socially, politically and lest we forget musically from Bob Marley and
the Wailers Band. This was in no short terms aided by the excellent musicians
that would mutate from Lee Perry's own studio band The Upsetters into what
would become The Wailers band itself. This set of musicians originally grew
out of a group called The Hippy Boys. The core of which consisted of Glenroy
Adams on keyboards, Alva 'Reggie' Lewis on guitar and brothers Carlton and
Aston 'Familyman' Barrett on drums and bass respectively. This quartet played
on most of the Lee Perry produced Wailers material recorded between 1970 and
1971. When in 1972 Bob Marley needed to put together a touring band to
promote his work in Europe the Barrett brothers left and became an integral
part of the Wailers band. So, this link between The Upsetters and the Wailers
band would under the guidance of Lee Perry produce an outstanding body of
music. Recorded at Randy's Studio 17, as at the time Lee Perry did not have a
studio of his own, but on checking out the various studio's available, opted
for Studio 17, liking the vibes it transmitted. We have unearthed from this
selection of work some rare dubs featuring the fabulous melodica playing of
Mr Augustus Pablo, playing over these classic rhythms and adding a haunting
additional feel to these already iconic tunes. On their initial release Lee
Perry recognising the strength of the rhythm tracks, planned to release the
vocal cuts as one album and the instrumental versions as another release. We
at Jamaican Recordings believing in all thing’s rhythm, also think that these
cuts in their dubbed form, with the additional flavour of some fine melodica
playing, deserved to be listened to in their own right. Respect Jah Floyd |

Dropsonde
was originally released by Touch (UK) in 2006. This is a reissue with seven
previously unreleased recordings. Widely regarded as one of Norwegian
electronic music's most important artists, Biosphere's Geir Jenssen career
spans nearly two decades, several albums, lots of remixes, various sound
installations, commissions, soundtracks and even the odd Himalayan summit.
You may recognise his work without knowing it, so frequently does it crop up
on TV trailers and idents. In the early 1990s he was a pioneer of so-called
'Ambient Techno', but since then, he has refined his sound into something
more magnetic and enduring. Dropsonde' isn't a soundtrack like the interwoven
'Substrata' nor an episodic journey in the way that 'Autour de la Lune' is.
Here Geir Jenssen is pushing new directions towards the jazz colours of Miles
Davis and Jon Hassell, whilst re-invigorating the pulse and projection of his
signature sound: a hypnotic combination of pleasure and dread. The spatial
aspects some have dubbed "Arctic sound" but it summons strong
feelings, or as Exclaim from Canada put it, "in order to climb higher,
you must first go deeper". Jon Savage adds: "As with all of the
Biosphere albums, the music draws you in and makes you want to listen and
feel. Jenssen's work acts on a very emotional level, one that encourages you
to drift away into a haze of images and scenes brought to you by the music,
where spectacular beauty hides unseen danger. Intense and moving, but
comforting and soothing at the same time." A 'dropsonde' is a weather
reconnaissance device designed to be dropped from an airplane or similar
craft at altitude to take telemetry as it falls to the ground. It typically
relays information to a computer in the dropping airplane by radio. The fall
may be slowed by a parachute. Information collected by a typical dropsonde
may include wind speed, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure |

To celebrate 20 years of the record label Jamaican
Recordings,Jah Floyd has cut a track telling the story of its beginnings and
the people involved. The initial meeting of legendary Reggae producer Bunny
`Striker’ Lee in Jamaica and the various artists that became part of the
labels catalogue. Such greats as Tapper Zukie, Niney The Obsever, Black
Solidarity producer Ossie Thomas. Artists and Producers who music helped
define the labels sound. A great collection of releases for all involved
alongside its other label Kingston Sounds. What would have been the labels
20th year and Bunny Lee’s 80th birthday celebrations have sadly been
curtailed by the sad passing of Mr Lee in late 2020. But makes this 500 only
7’’ all the more poignant and comes with a dub version as its B-Side,which
for the Reggae label Jamaican Recordings the dub versions was its driving

On
his fourth album proper, Now Here No Where, Danish producer Kölsch (aka Rune
Reilly Kölsch) is charting new terrain. Fans of his ‘years trilogy’ – 1977,
1983 and 1989, released on Kompakt over the past decade – were privy to a
kind of sonic diary, an autobiography, tracking the artist’s early years
through three albums of superior, meticulously rendered techno. Calling in
collaborators where needed – most notably, the strings of Gregor
Schwellenbach – there was still something deeply personal going down, not
quite hermetic, but internally focused; the albums proved not only Kölsch’s
mastery of his chosen form, but also his capacity to make techno personal,
individual, and to trace histories of the self through music. But on Now Here
No Where, Kölsch finds his feet firmly planted in the present. Reflecting on
his new album, he notes, “It is fascinating to write about memories and
feelings that have had years to manifest and develop, but how would I
approach current emotions?” It’s a good question: our past coheres through
the narratives we build around memories, but the moment we’re in, the newness
of the now-ness, is harder to navigate; this story is as yet untold. For
Kölsch, this makes Nowhere Now Here “an album about life in the year 2020. A
time defined by confusion, misinformation and environmental challenges. It is
an emotional interpretation of personal and mental challenges, observations
and personal growth.” Kölsch does this with music that effortlessly balances
emotional heft with the dancefloor’s brimming desires. It’s a space that
Kölsch has navigated for a while now – one of techno’s breakthrough acts, an
in-demand DJ across the globe and a prolific and restlessly creative
producer, he’s also Kompakt’s biggest-selling act – but Now Here No Where
ratchets up the lushness, making for a delirious drift across twelve tracks
that are at once perfectly poised and deeply trippy. “Great Escape” is an

Kalahari
is the first EP from producer Sindh, who, like many of the artists on
Valentino Mora's IDO, expresses a wistful fondness for nature in its myriad
forms. The project Sindh was named as such after the musician had an
affecting encounter with the magnificent Indus River in Ladakh, the lush
vegetation and landscapes in this region clearly inspiring Sindh's sound.
Sindh's regard for the natural world as well as science fiction is reflected
in the instruments employed in Kalahari ranging from flute, bongo,
percussions and modular and Ciat Lonbarde synthesisers. Over the four tracks,
Sindh leads us through four distinct landscapes, the narrative unfolding
track by track. In Saptura, ethereal atmospheres guide us through a
ruin-strewn terrain where vegetation has virtually obscured all traces of
human life. The resoundingly tranquil mood maintaining faith in the arch of
the universe. Sidam opens with a more mysterious tone, inviting curiosity
into the next environment as a gentle rhythm guides, allowing space for
strange, other-worldly surprises. As winds whisper and synthetic rain
responds, the pared back percussions that prevail in Nun-kun introduce a
human touch |

We are excited to present you
with the beginnings of a new mix series. Each mix will be 60 minutes long and
strictly limited to a run of just 50 mixtapes. Each release will be designed
by Cengiz Menguc and mastered by Felix-Florian Todtloff, and will come with a
personal digital download code. First in line is Hamburg-based DJ,
screenwriter, photographer and music curator Phuong-Dan. Departing from the
standard chronology of a fixed A- and B-side, the release is comprised of
just one title outlining the red thread throughout the whole tape, entitled
"Sememes". Derived from the notion of the sememe--the smallest unit
of intended meaning found within a word--and itself a palindrome, another
notion that goes with the general idea behind this mixtape, the title and
accompanying track leave all possible linear narratives behind. In
Phuong-Dan's own words: 'All music and sound pieces in this mix could be
regarded as individual sememes themselves, or even the whole mix as one in

Today,
the Berlin-based artist, DJ and producer BOYS NOIZE (Alex Ridha) announces
the release of two new songs on July 16th via his imprint BNR. BOYS NOIZE’s
tear-out run of collaborative singles will continue with (+)side
"Nude", this time partnering up with Estonian avant-gardist TOMMY
CASH, and (-)side "Xpress Yourself". A synapse-flooding contrasting
climax of soaring euphoria, (+)side “Nude” combines lighters-in-the-air, peak
rave-era pads (think Orbital or Underworld) with Cash's seductive hook,
before the track drops into thundering tribal percussion, the vast shape of
the song’s aural space echolocated by atonal samples and screeches. First
working together on TOMMY CASH’s album ¥€$, the two iconoclasts´ shared
appreciation of ex-Soviet rave culture is expressed through “Nude’s”
aggressively liberatory, retro-future-shocked sound. The accompanying
official music video is directed by Ridha´s frequent collaborator SUS BOY
(Lil Peep, WEDIDIT). "Xpress Yourself" on the (-)side stretches
across time in its production, sound, and origins to deliver a techno tool of

there is a wealth of young, fresh talent on the house music scene right now,
few have cultivated such a polished sound as Mark Laird. Hailing from Ireland
but already enjoying success on the international scene, Laird joins Shall
Not Fade's Killer Cuts series for the diverse and invigorating Random EP.
First on the 5-tracker is "Bet", and it's an immediate onslaught of
breaks and heavy kicks, a chunky melody that follows choppy vocals to create
a cheeky bit of dancefloor action. "I Just Wanna" takes on a
noughties fidget house style, cascading vocal samples that are somehow
hypnotic. On the B-side, Laird shows the breadth of his production abilities,
moving away from the hard-hitting club beats for a moment on "4 Cruisin'"
and instead crafting a pulsing, spaced out house track that feels like
sunshine dazzling on some far-off beach. This blissful energy grows in the
next track, "Woosh" - a euphoric warehouse rave-tinged number that
showcases the best of classic piano house. Closing off the EP is the edgy,
energetic "Ghetto Booty", with flavours of early American house
sounds and a groove that is impossible not to move to |
