Needless to remark the importance
of Max Roach in the evolution of modern Jazz drumming. Let's just say that
back In the mid Forties the young Roach has performed in most of Charlie
Parker's recordings including the legendary Savoy sessions, a crucial step in
the history of Jazz recording. Recorded in NY between 1957 and 1958 and
originally released on Emarcy label this is Roach's first official tribute to
Charlie Parker. This is also Roach's first pianoless group, a formula which
will become a trademark in his later career. Here Roach displays a strong
line up featuring Kenny Dorham on trumpet, George Coleman or Hank Mobley on
tenor sax, and Nelson Boyd or George Marrow on bass. The tracklist includes
six highly inventive versions of Parker's classic Bop tunes such as
"Yardbird Suite", "Confirmation", "Ko-Ko",
"Billie's Bounce", "Apres-vous", and "Parker's

are atomic and sub-atomic particles and we are wireless.” ARPANET is the new
project to come out of the DATAPHYSIX laboratory in Detroit (USA). It is a
poetic and prophetic Kraftwerk type concept-album devoted to the
revolutionary technologies of Japan’s leading telecommunication company NTT
DoCoMo, a permanent connection to the internet. The thesis developed by
ARPANET is that, in a very near future, cellular phone users will have in
their hand a remote control for their life. ARPANET was produced at the
DATAPHYSIX headquarters, where the acclaimed and cult combo DOPPLEREFFEKT
project was recorded. DOPPLEREFFEKT were one of the strangest and most
mysterious units of the contemporary electronic music scene. They had
developed their very own and highly influential sound aesthetic, without
which the current electro-hype probably wouldn’t sound as it does. Japan is

Psychedelic
Percussion' definitely sticks to his title. With the help from Paul Beaver of
Beaver & Krause (famous keyboard wizard and sound engineer for the likes
of Stevie Wonder), vibe master Emil Richards (check is two fantastic album on
Impulse! with The Microtonal Blues Band featuring Joe Porcaro, father of the
famed Toto brothers) and Gary Coleman (percussionist in the famous Wrecking
Crew), Blaine goes wild in the studio with drums, gong, xylophone, organ,
bongos, congas and timpani. Unusual textures and tones lead the way to 12
instrumental exotic numbers similar in a way to Raymond Scott most visionary
experiments. This is pure madness, a record full of breaks and still
unsurpassed in many ways. Blaine was an American drummer and session musician,
estimated to be among the most recorded studio drummers in the history of the
music industry, claiming over 35,000 sessions and 6,000 singles. His drumming
is featured on 150 US top 10 hits, 40 of which went to number one, as well as
many film and television soundtracks. He became one of the regular players in
Phil Spector-s de facto house band, which Blaine nicknamed 'the Wrecking
Crew'. Some of the records Blaine played on include the Ronettes' single 'Be
My Baby' (1963), which contained a drum beat that became widely imitated, as
well as works by popular artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the
Beach Boys, Simon ^ Garfunkel, the Carpenters, Neil Diamond and the Byrds |

Greek
electronic music platform, "Pi" turns seven this year and brings
new features on its label catalogue. "Variable Remixes" is the
first remixes EP of the Pi Electronics Various Artists series
"PEVA". Five tracks from the debut compilation "Variable"
- released in 2018 - are getting remixed by some of the label's favorite
acts. Unhuman's "Imminent Fear" gets an alternative Version by the
legendary, Spanish band of Esplendor Geometrico. Damcase's "INKL
Rules" is remixed by American producer Container. The untitled track of
the Variable compilation, by the artist project "I am Legion, for We are
many", gets reinterpreted by the Canadia duo of Rich Oddie (Orphx) and
Huren as "O/H". On the flip side, the track "GBNR17" of
the label's "3.14" gets its fix by Spanish, industrial techno
maestro, Geistform and DAS' "Spinner" receives a special remix
treatment by Athens' infamous ANFS. Noise break-beats of different tastes on
the A side, with stomping industrial beats for the club and sub-club
environment on the B side |

The
Solar Winds EP completes a trilogy of EP releases from London based
DJ/Producer duo Suburban Architecture. Drawing heavily on influences from one
of Drum & Bass's most innovative eras, the mid to late 90s, the duo's
productions place a contemporary spin on sounds rooted in this golden era of
dance music. In a similar vein to the previous two EP releases (2019's
"Visions" and 2020's "Alternative Futures"), this new 4
track EP delivers another collection of sounds that meet at the intersection
of 90s and modern production. Title track "Solar Winds" laces
rolling drums over melancholy piano riffs, ultimately giving way lively jazz
drums, spacious atmospherics and unexpected bass twists. "Unwound"
marries dreamy, swimming layers of pads and flutes with Jungle drum
programming and a bubbling b-line to deliver a track that sits somewhere
between '94 Jungle and Jazzy roller. "Renegade Horns" meanwhile is
all about contrast - subtle pads, piano and of course atmospheric horns clash
with massive Dillinja-inspired drums and weighty bass. "Footprints"
closes out the EP - an epic roller packed with textured Rhodes, female
vocals, light synth lines and a distant guitar |

Bram
Weijters' Crazy Men is a thrilling take on Belgian jazz-rock and fusion from
the 1970s. Consisting of musicians from a wide array of contemporary jazz
bands including Lucid Lucia (ex BRZZVLL), Dans Dans, STUFF. and Cargo Mas,
the ensemble is led by Antwerp based piano and keyboard player, Bram
Weijters. On a continuous quest to explore the roots of early Belgian jazz
rock, the spark for this very special collaborative project was ignited by
the reissue of composer, arranger, pianist, and keyboardist Koen de Bruyne's
1974 rare Belgian gem, 'Here Comes the Crazy Man!' via Sdban Records in 2015,
which spawned the release of Bram Weijters' Crazy Men's debut album 'Here
They Come' in 2019.Continuing their obsession with premium experimental
jazz-rock, 'The Return' takes further inspiration from the period with 14
reworking's of compositions from artists including Philip Catherine, Placebo,
Palle Mikelborg ensemble, Bob Porter, Cos and Koen de Bruyne. But this is no
lazy rehash, copy or rip-off. Pyschedelic, free-spirited and infectiously
groovy, 'The Return' perfectly captures the inspiring crossover energy that
seemed to prevail in the Belgian jazz scene of the 70s. Take 'Nineteen
Seventy Fourths' for example. Influenced by the Philip Catherine recording of
the same name which appeared on the 'September Man' (1974) album, Bram
Weijters' Crazy Men breathe new life into the track which floats anywhere
between heavy funk and psychedelic jazz rock and also takes inspiration from
the Palle Mikelborg ensemble live version performed at Jazz Middelheim in
August 1974. Elsewhere, a reworking of Placebo's 'Planes' is inspired by two
memorable live performances of the track from Marc Moulin's jazz-fusion band;
'Placebo Live in Temse' (1972) and 'Placebo Live in Bruxelles' (1973). An
all-out assault of crossover energy, it fizzes with dramatic trumpets and a
racing rhythm section while 'Carol', originally recorded by Steve Houben,
Mauve Traffic for the album 'Oh Boy' (1979) brings the pace right down and
allows Weijters' piano to take centre stage. Weijters first began studying
music at the age of eight years old, attending piano and percussion classes.
In addition to his classically trained background, he played drums in several

The
second EP being released in the wake of the recent Extended mixtape, Social
Distancing showcases Modeselektor’s talent for bridging the gap between
hip-hop and the rave. The title track reunites the Berlin duo with Flohio,
who first appeared on their 2018 single Wealth. Social Distancing is the end
result, and while the swaggering cut could easily carry an EP on its own,
Modeselektor have decided to up the ante by inviting a talented crew of
friends and colleagues to put their own spin on the track. Brainfeeder
affiliate Little Snake transforms Social Distancing with his corroded beats
and playful sound design, while looking closer to home in Berlin,
Modeselektor tapped frequent partners in crime (and Spandau natives) FJAAK,
who cooked up a rowdy bass-techno hybrid. Like all good hip-hop EPs, Social
Distancing comes with an acapella version of the title track, but here,
Flohio’s rhymes have been maniacally stretched, smashed and warped by veteran
producer Richard Devine. Rounding out the record is Social Engineering, a
sleazy, static-laced techno reimagining of Social Distancing. It’s a lot of
fun, which makes sense, because even after all these years in the music game,
having a good time is still Modeselektor’s primary m.o. Social Distancing (ft.

clear, to create a track exclusively out of those sounds. The results are
remarkably differing from each other and showing the huge creative potential
of this project, which is a collaboration between the world famous Ruhr
Museum foundation and The Third Room collective. While Matrixxman delivers us
an ambient driven masterpiece, RODHAD shows us his impeccable skills to
create an ever-evolving tension in his dub techno influenced approach. Yan
Cook on the B-Side is exploring the full potential of those samples to honor
the industrial era and its machines, while T3R-Resident VNNN. is hailing with
his hypnotic grooves the late hours of an extensive musical journey. We hope

Tom Frankel and Dayne Harper,
founders of the record label Council Work and purveyors of British
underground dance sounds, make their debut as duo Frankel & Harper on
Time Is Now's white label series. They serve up five killer cuts of
explorative bass-driven production. The EP opens with "Track &
Trace", a smooth but high intensity roller that never gives you a
breather from the heavy sub bass. The breaks that hit after the drop push the
momentum for the rest of the record. "Ultraheat" features clever
chopped up vocals and bubbling effects that create a skippy, upbeat shine to
a forward beat that would be at home in the dark of the club. More clubwise
production on "Every Grain of Sand", where echoed samples give a
cavernous space to the track which is filled by shimmering arps and the
low-end rumble of bass, real late night business that rolls into
"Heinous Fly Trap's classic heads-down garage sound. Shuffling house
energy meets two-step on "Magnolia", bringing the party energy for
