Micron
Audio embodies a hub for a modern and futuristic electro sound, led by its
master DJ Stingray 313. The imprint beckons intense electronic sounds,
roughened textures and geometries that speak to a guiding principle of making
technological advancement accessible to the people. These technoid adventures
of sci-fi sound design and arrays of unabating rhythm, draw its listeners
through warped microworlds and wicked contortions. Behind the sounds, it
exists as a display of artistic responsibility, making statements and
providing solutions from socio-political commentaries.? The first Micron
Audio physical release emerged in 2011, with DJ Stingray 313's Electronic
Countermeasures EP, following a digital-only compilation that is no longer
available. Tracks from the Micron Audio hemisphere have featured in several
compilation records released by the likes of Rush Hour and Creme
Organization, including Stringray's Urban Tribe project. It represents a
crisply defiant and firmly electronic approach, drawing in the infective
indicators of video games. Relaunching afresh in 2021, Micron Audio is
working with new artists and is stepping not only further into the future but
into the foreground, where its clear scientific intention and political

Barbaric Retribution indeed makes good on the band's self/branded
"Australian Barbaric Death Metal" tag, taking the martial
foundation of their earlier work and locating a blood-red/raw humidity which
makes their incendiary maelstrom all the more overwhelming. CEMETERY URN have
never been short on powerful production - always, a balance between crush and
clarity is sought - but Barbaric Retribution, perhaps due to its take no
prisoners title, pushes the intensity to near-suffocating levels. But within
that unremitting savagery lurks a greater number of doomed out down tempo
twists and some truly demonic soloing, all ever suggestive of the very literal
Armageddon at the heart of their aesthetic. Above all, Barbaric Retribution
truly proves that unrelenting intensity and top-shelf songwriting need not be

Francoise Hardy became an
international sensation during the early 1960s through her albums on Disques
Vogue, the French jazz label that then began showcasing chanson. She signed
to the label at seventeen after answering a newspaper advertisement recruiting
unknown singers while she was a freshman at the Sorbonne, the B-side of debut
single, 'Tous Les Garcons Et Les Filles,' brought her to the forefront of the
Yé-yé movement, mixing chanson with Anglophone rock and pop, and paving the
way for this debut LP, which was lauded by the likes of Bob Dylan and Mick

and loved member of the Shall Not Fade Family, Felipe Gordon turns up the
jazz influence on a fresh new EP for the label. The producer and
multi-instrumentalist based in Colombia is known for his complex compositions
and infectious beats, and Keepin' It Jazz does not disappoint. The record
kicks off with "Analog Only" - a highly textural beat forms the
core of this bass-heavy groover that cruises along at a laid back pace,
drawing the listener further in. Similarly gentle but hypnotic,
"Continuous Develop" has the heady ambience of the chillout room,
but Gordon brings in his intricate dreamy instrumentation and acid hints to
great effect. The second half centres a tasty bass solo that will get all
heads nodding along. The title track is the chunkiest of house rhythms paired
with delicate jazzy piano, a gliding summer party anthem. "Looking Your
Reflection In The Water" is artful, perfectly emotive and gently rising

remix from Detroit mainstay FIT Siegel. Dubbyman is a master of the deep. As
a DJ and producer, he explores warm and heady soundscapes that are rooted in
house and techno but decorated with much more. His musical synths and

after a break, he is back and in brilliant form. Opener 'En La Ciudad' is an

Zahn makes his Blueprint Records debut in September as James Ruskin's label
continues to celebrate 25 years at the forefront of Techno. Since 1998,
Dustin Zahn's work has put his career on a steady ascent. Along the way, he
has gained years of experience and unrivalled musical diversity as both a
producer and performer, earning him respect among techno and house legends,
purists, and contemporary DJs. He performs regularly around the world and his
DJ sets are much like his releases. "I like it dark enough for the boys,
but groovy enough for the girls" says Zahn. With a preference for
marathon sets and his laid-back approach to life and music, he seamlessly
traverses through various genres to create a unique, hypnotic vibe. As a
producer, his releases on labels such as Drumcode, Rekids, and CLR have
brought him international success. And his remixes for the likes of Adam
Beyer, Chris Liebing, Green Velvet, Dubfire, Nic Fancuilli, Mark Broom, Joel
Mull and more have helped catapult him into the collections of DJs

Charlotte
de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano have come together to serve up a very
personal remix of the hugely influential self-titled classic by Age Of Love.
It lands on the original Belgian label Diki Records on August 13th next to
the legendary Jam & Spoon 'Watch Out For Stella Mix' and the original
vocal mix from 1990. Age Of Love wrote and released their most iconic track
in 1990. It went on to become a stone-cold dance classic that inspired a
whole trance movement that has endured throughout the years. The track was
originally released on one of the most iconic trance labels in Belgium's
history and has been specially remastered for this 2021 release. The idea to
remix 'Age Of Love' started taking shape when KNTXT boss Charlotte was in
lockdown with esteemed Italian techno artist Enrico at the end of February
last year. As soon as the track was finished, it was played in several live
streams and the online community quickly fell in love. The remix bears all
the hallmarks of both producers, who between them have a number of Beatport
hits and have crafted everything from the darkest drums to the most emotional
synths to great effect. Say Charlotte and Enrico, "It's a very
meaningful track for both of us, for various reasons, and it brings back many
joyful memories. Remixing such a legendary track was a super fun thing to do,
but we noticed how easily and spontaneously we could work together in the

school techno star Lee Ann Roberts continues to light up 2021 with another
brand new single on her own NowNow Records. Her standout original is backed
by remixes from MRD and D.A.V.E. The Drummer. This year already belongs to
South African-born, Amsterdam-based Lee Ann Roberts. Her new label has had
high-profile support from tastemakers like Charlotte de Witte & Ken
Ishii, and is already well known for its off-grid techno sounds. Roberts
herself debuted only last year on Suara. She immediately hit the number 2
spot on the Beatport Hard Techno chart and followed up with more on Octopus
Warehouse Series. She has played festivals like Caprices this year and is
lined up for BPM as well as plenty more headline gigs. The excellent 'Feel'
is a nine-minute, hard-edged roller. The drums are flat-footed and
unrelenting, the synths bring turbulence and dark vocals add dystopian
unease. The edgy textures and caustic pads make for a visceral groove that is
perfectly designed for shadowy warehouse spaces. An Acid Trip Mix sees the
track erupt on wild acid lines that spray about the mix and cannot fail to
blow up the dance floor. Remixer MRD hails from Norway and has released
plenty of EPs and an album in a short space of time. He has a ferocious sound
that fuses new wave, hardcore and banging techno as evidenced here |

electronic music and musical production. Taking inspiration from artists

Aphex Twin, ECHT! combine electro, hip-hop, trap, funk and futuristic jazz,
resulting in a distinct and unique sound. On the 24th September, ECHT! are
set to release their highly anticipated debut album 'INWANE' via the
groove-obsessed, Gent-based label Sdban Ultra. Releasing their debut EP
'DOUF' in 2019, the Brussels quartet has not stopped working, recently
releasing three sublime live studio sessions titled the BREWmixes which
received support from tastemakers including LEFTO, Worldwide FM and Belgian
national radio station Studio Brussel (StuBru). Echt means 'vrai de vrai' -
'true' or 'real' in brusseleir (Brabantian dialect of Brussels). The name is
a direct reference to the fact that their sound transmission is 'real',
performed with conventional musical instruments as oppose to computer music
which the production might suggest. It also relates to the fact that none of
the members of the band are originally from Brussels - bassist Federico
Pecoraro is from Italy, keyboardist Dorian Dumont is from France and drummer Martin
Méreau and guitarist Florent Jeunieaux are both from the Mons region on
Belgium. "For our first album, we wanted to go into deeper beats. We
were listening a lot to trap, gritty hip-hop & bass music, and we tried
to emulate those kinds of beats on our instruments |

booming, warehouse-ready finish, the four track EP channels funk, density and
smart sound design in equal measure. Tripping opener FM-2030 marries a bold,
aquatic lead sequence with glassy pads set in the sonic periphery that serve
to create a pleasing sense of suspension. Drum machine flourishes help guide
the recording onwards, increasing intensity where required and exuberant
synth hits wax and bend in support along the way, tying up a classy, rolling
number. A-side follow up Extropy features booming, fathoms deep low end and
that same sunk, introspective finish. Noisy percussive elements inject groove
and dynamics to proceedings while a growling synth shifts in and out of view
for added effect. Caustic B1 Transhuman builds itself around a single warping
lead, expertly tweaked and plied along its run time to generate a palpable
hysteria. Buoyed by expertly centred kicks, it's a powerful piece of off
kilter dance floor material. Closing piece Posthuman Being drives the record
home - an expertly executed slice of peak time Techno, complete with driving

There
has always been a Reggae inuence in the music of El Michels Affair. From
their cover of "Hung Up On My Baby" done in a Reggae style, to the
general sound and approach that permeates Leon's production style. While
recording Bailey's 2020 Ekundayo album, they did some straight forward reggae
tunes inspired by different eras alongside some modern R&B tracks that
would t more comfortably next to Frank Ocean than Jacob Miller. It is this
same notion that old and new can live so comfortably together that birthed
the idea of Ekundayo Inversions. Traditional dub came out of reggae in the
late 60s and early 70s when pioneers like King Tubby and Lee Perry started
taking the multi track recordings of songs and running them back through the
board adding effects and additional instrumentation. These recordings are
called "dubs" or "versions" and are typically
instrumentals with ourishes of vocals from the original tracks. El Michels
decided to use the blueprints left behind and make something using the
inuences of today. He wound up straying so far from the traditional format
that it didn't seem right to use the word `Dub', hence Ekundayo Inversions.
All the songs are tied together by WhatsApp messages between Leon and Liam
that perfectly narrate the story of this record and their working
relationship. One of the highlights on Ekundayo Inversions is a guest
appearance from the legendary Lee "Scratch" Perry on the "Ugly
Truth" version. L$P switches between singing and talking, proclaiming
his powers one minute and playing with the track's title the next. On
"Awkward take. 2" Leon takes one of the most experimental songs
from Ekundayo and actually straightens it out. A track that once seemed to be
oating in space has now been anchored by the addition of drums and bass.
"Faded", a version of "Paper Tiger", is given the full
EMA treatment with the addition of emotive horns over an uncomfortably sparse
rhythm track peppered with Liam's voice drenched in delay and echo.
"Champions" features a verse from Black Thought of The Roots and
halfway through, El Michels sends the rhythm section 50 years back. At the
end of the day, Ekundayo Inversions is a testament to how strong the original
songs are. Whether they're in a R&B style, reggae style, stripped down to
their bare bones, or loaded with production, the songs will move you |

While Modeselektor’s recent
Extended mixtape is populated with all sorts of musical experiments, even the
duo’s most ardent fans might be surprised by Dating Is In China, which is
quite possibly the most overtly pop track they’ve ever created. A collaboration
with Argentinian artist (and Monkeytown regular) Catnapp, it’s also the title
track of the third EP released in Extended’s aftermath, following on from
Mean Friend and Social Distancing. There’s something uniquely pure and honest
about Catnapp’s performance, and Dating Is In China in general, but there’s
no denying that the song’s hearton-sleeve pop makes it something of an
outlier in the Modeselektor catalog. Two alternative versions were created by
the Berlin duo themselves: Crunchy synths jab the Speed Dating Version,
whereas Dated In China is a bath of meditative, drawn-out tones. Additional

After
the 2020 release of Old Dreams And Memories, Icelandic dub techno linchpin
Yagya returns for a second release on his emergent label, Small Plastic
Animals. This latest venture marks a new chapter in the artist's accomplished
career, having released on Delsin, Subwax BCN and A Strangely Isolated Place
as well as forming a core part of the Thule collective alongside his partner
in Sanasol, Thor. As those associations ably point out, the music Yagya
crafts is spacious and atmospheric, using the techno tradition as a vessel
for meditative as well as emotional exploration and experimenting with sound
design according to a specific, patiently cultivated style. Always Maybe
Tomorrow finds Yagya ruminating on the behavioural energy of environments as
viewed from afar - the man-made electricity of urban expanses and the
interconnected flora and fauna of ecosystems. Looking to his chosen tools as
a means to express these ideas, he employed a non-linear approach to each of
the four tracks on this EP, choosing to create musical systems in constant
flux rather than composing each piece in a conventional left-to-right
narrative. Yagya's trademark voluminous chords and vast pads ebb and flow
through filters controlled by LFOs and randomness, creating their own
micro-incidents and macro evolution as though holding a mirror up to the
environments the initial inspiration was drawn from |

In
‘Syntactic Structures’ (1957), Noam Chomsky argues that language is unlike
behavior, but is instead closer to the physical attributes of us humans. In
short, once language penetrates the constellations of our physique, then it
could be theoritized as empirical. Chomsky concluded that the human
consciousness (at least in the syntactic context), is rather like a pendulum
between two opposite poles: structural and creative. Its nature is generative
and transformative. Free in metaphysical terms, yet bound by the natural laws
of physics. Though abstract and speculative, this idea serves as the point of
embarkation for the creation of ‘Sintaksis’ by artist Aryo Adhianto. Grounded
by a set of rudimentary rules and minimal orchestration, each composition stretches
skeletal rhythmic clauses into free-flowing pulses and timbres. Such is the
process of untangling the clot of negative energy present within the artist
as an individual, simultaneously governed by ‘feel’ and performative aspects.
Despite the inward, expressionistic nature of ‘Sintaksis’, its diction is a
direct bi-product of external factors. The accumulated distress and
volatility that have become the fabric of normalcy in Jakarta urban
conditions are present here in fluctuating sonic forms. This chaotic
disposition questions the battle of narratives and the paradigm of the
individual’s function in society while treading the path of a broad musical
heritage with agility and virtuosic qualities |

The Raval Breakers strike back,
blasting a rather fitting soundtrack to the dystopian times we are living in.
This third volume gets together old and new friends of the M.U.S.A. family
who show their personal takes on electro. The first track is a deep and
explosive yet somehow contended cut; made in Rub by its legendary producer
Univac, inspired by The Hague and remixed in Russia by the duo Fractions. La
Maquina Corrupta sends a trancy, breaky and acidic cut from Berlin and
Sistema, which inaugurates his new alias Brodmann 41 for some paranoid
electroclash action. On the flip, Privacy does a great remix of Exzakt &
BFX, mixing electro rhythms with a narcotic and nocturnal atmosphere that
adds dubstep flavor to the formula. Finally, Barcelona's own RNXRX closes
this third EP with a broken and dirty track that sounds like a
high-definition face punch |

Jens
Schwan, best known as the owner of the THE CLUBMAP magazine and co-founder of
ZUG DER LIEBE, has been in the techno scene for 30 years now. "Frontier
Reichenberger" marks his debut though when it comes to releasing
records. The title might ring a bell for some of us as it is a literal
combination of a track by Underground Resistance and the old location of the
Hard Wax record store in Berlin. The record itself reminds us of classic
Chicago House style music - claps, hi-hats and bass drums are neatly pumping
their way into this nimbly track with its noisy attitude. The remix delivered
by Jarno Eerola is a playful deep house track, a chugging jazzy piece of
music that shuffles along slightly dragged, demanding your attention with
loud little surprises. Jarno releases music under his alias Joe Le Bon and
Aitokaiku and has now released three albums and various tracks on labels such
as International Deejay Gigolo Records, Pro-Tez, Plastik.FM and Blumenbeat.
His remix is a true evidence to his skills in the studio. On a side note,
Jarno is not just a DJ and procuder, though - he is a tinkerer and a little
bit crazy. He has toured conferences and festivals all over Europe and
Russia, building audiovisual installations. It’s an overall pleasure, having
both Jens and Jarno releasing this piece on Dizzy Tracks and it’ll be
interesting to see, whether there is more to come |

Samowar
is the electronics project of Leen Diependaele. With voice, synths and beats
they build a world of their own through loops and FX. The result: an
authentic, sometimes vulnerable and experimental sound. This did not go
unnoticed: Samowar made it to the finals of Humo's Rock Rally 2014, was
laureate of Theater Aan Zee 2013, second FrappantPop 2011, ... and also
collaborated with Arsenal (Vocal FX on the song 4Golden Are You Still?4
[FURU] and the poem 'The writer' in 'Room Of Imaginary Creatures'),
Arsenal/Lazarus (music to the podcast 'Daughters Of Entrepreneurs') and her
musical muses (Roos Rebergen, Lennert Coorevits, Dienne Bogaerts and Johannes
Genard) during Monday Muse, which will have a live follow-up in August. After
quite a few projects in theater (De Roovers, Het Paleis, Froefroe) and
performances with bands like Reymer, Marcel Vanthilt, Pepieyaya... her
self-titled EP (2014) finally gets a worthy successor. Samowar's debut album
'Leeway' was written during a residency on the island of Comacina (IT).
Surrounded by sailboats, Leen learned about Leeway. With Leeway you express
(in degrees) how much you deviate to reach your goal. But the meaning of
Leeway goes much broader: space to play / room to move / slack / drift /
breathing space / margin / arm's reach... The album was produced and
musically lifted by Stijn Cole (Stan Lee Cole, Scheire en de schepping).
Andrew Claes (STUFF., Internal Sun) provided the extra finishing touch.
Samowar could already be admired live as support for SOHN in the AB and My
Brightest Diamond in the Botanique and as regular support for School Is Cool
and Eefje de Visser. Samowar has also played at a number of festivals such as
Boomtown, Absolutely Free Festival and Incubate (NL) |

album of this Belgian singer-songwriter,by Kevin Ratterman (Strand of Oaks,
Ray Lamontagne, My Morning Jacket. Gertjan Van Hellemont aka Douglas Firs,
went through what you would call ‘an emotional rollercoaster’ last year. It
all started during one absurd week, in which one doctor told him the good
news that he was going to be a father, and another that his mother was
terminally ill and only had a couple of weeks left to live. About a month
after his mother, Gertjan's grandmother also passed away after being
diagnosed with Covid-19. Not really knowing how to handle these conflicting
feelings of deep grief at his mother's and grandmother’s deaths on the one
hand, and the pure excitement about his soon to be born first child on the
other, Gertjan climbed the stairs to his home studio in his attic, to start
writing and recording “Heart of a mother”, the upcoming Douglas Firs album.
Most of what you'll hear on the album are those first recordings: Gertjan
singing, playing guitars and adding layers of piano, Wurlitzer and synths.
His loyal touring band came in to add some drums, bass and more keyboards
here and there. For the first time everything on a Douglas Firs album was
recorded at home, which was crucial to keep the songs as pure and honest as possible.
Kevin Ratterman (Strand of Oaks, Ray LaMontagne, My Morning Jacket) mixed the
album in Louisville, Kentucky. “In my view, no image in this world is more
powerful than the heart of a mother, nothing has more love running through
it,” Gertjan says about his 4th album. “I was able to witness this both in my
own mother and in my girlfriend who was about to become one. My hope is that
people will hear and feel this love in these songs.” releaseshow AB Brussels

Davide Piras is an Italian
producer with a penchant for the tougher, rougher side of British bass music.
Creating music under the moniker DJ Chupacabra, Piras has been picked up by
labels like Haws and Dr Banana in the past year, and now makes his debut for
Time Is Now with more deep raw cuts. The EP hits hard with deep tech, breaks
and rumbling bass. "Grimer" kicks off with sparse, staccato beats
for heads down business before the expansive two step of
"Rockstar". With its eclectic use of samples and ominous swelling
bassline, it's a solid club roller. Funky, earworming house is the game of
B-side opener "Killalot" which hints just a little of an acidic
edge. "Morbid" is a heady stepper with plenty of ear teasing melody
and atmosphere. The EP closes with a crescendo in "Croissant",
which has a chunky minimal deep tech beat and booming bassline which is
destined to send the dancefloor wild |

born production prodigy Lloyd SB has long been a secret weapon of the
underground instrumental grime scene. His assertive club tracks have been
staples in radio sets from the likes of Murlo, Scratcha DVA, Slackk and more,
with his dominance over the more hard-edged side of grime production looking
set to continue with his inaugural outing for Gobstopper Records, '8ths,
16ths/Princess Anna'. Opening to a cacophony of warped snares, the release's
A-side swells early on with a glistening soundscape, providing the perfect
build thanks to buried mechanised percussion before pushing its rhythmic
elements to the forefront. Using full frontal percussive artillery as its
main focus, '8ths, 16ths' almost completely removes any trace of melody in
favour of unrelenting kicks, twisted snares and glass shatter sounds -
providing a destructive take on the modern club blueprint. The release's
second track exhibits a more melodic if no less frenetic side to Lloyd SB's
production. Set to a pummelling bed of laser-esque bass sounds, 'Princess
Anna' is a chaotic blend of 8 bit bursts, rapid-fire arpeggios and affected
cymbals |

After
studying dance, Kirikoo Des aka NSDOS, felt the need to create his own sound
in order to explore movement. This is how he started imagining a whole new
sonic order, an alternative approach to music - through abstraction. NSDOS
can't restrain himself to existing technological tools and softwares, he
prefers creating his own mediums: futurist instruments made of old audio
converters (carte son), Gameboy emulators, pieces of metal dismantled and
weld together giving form to surreal machines. Surrounded by his hybrid
tools, NSDOS unravels the rectilinear anatomy of techno music. Textures are
exploded, sounds mutilated, and brought back to their essence. This sonic
odyssey, NSDOS initiated in his native town Paris before exploring it deeper
in Berlin - a city that he sees as a giant laboratory in which he
experimented the field of possibilities. A huge admirer of the dada and
lettrism movements, NSDOS can be considered as the offspring of a DIY
culture. He ranks among his icons artists such as Christian Marley, Stelarc
or Donna Haraway who gave him a desire to push the limits of the body,
objects and sound |
