strong mid 90s period influenced by Detroit's blossoming second wave of
producers, yet composed with a very peculiar writing style and distinctive
depth: the Nuron touch! On the flip, highly experienced producer Kirk

A
boundless creative spirit, Australian artist Paul Schütze has worked for over
forty years as a musician, photographer, visual artist and perfumer. He has
exhibited at institutions such as the Hayward Gallery, the V&A and
Madrid’s Arco, held residencies at the Cité des Arts in Paris and has works
in collections worldwide. He has collaborated with musicians from Jah Wobble
to Toshinori Kondo, from Bill Laswell to David Toop, and worked both as a
filmscore composer and music critic in print. A new, remastered compilation
of key works from Schütze’s catalogue, The Second Law, collates music from
various periods and albums. Represented here are tracks from 1990’s The
Annihilating Angel, an album of blissed-out fourth-world mystery; from the
transcendent homage to traditional Indonesian gamelan music The Rapture of
Metals (1993); from the ethereal, spiritual, Nino Rota-esque melancholy of
1991’s Regard: Music by Film. It is occasionally dark, industrial and
begrimed; occasionally paradisiacal and breathtakingly elegant. There are
works of celestial, astronomic grandeur alongside microscopically detailed
miniatures. Empty, deserted spaces of man-made abandonment contrast with
studies of ornate natural beauty. Born in Melbourne, Schütze's musical life began
as a composer of filmscore, winning the AFI award for best score for his
first feature The Tale Of Ruby Rose in 1987, while 1985’s Deus Ex Machina
(the sound design for an eponymous exhibition co-curated by Schütze) is now
considered the first true solo work in the sizable Paul Schütze canon. Now
beginning to focus on his own expression alongside commissioned work, Schütze
relocated to London in late 1992, welcomed by a burgeoning community of
artists and musicians at a time of immense creative fertility. The stream of
releases that followed, under his own name and under various pseudonyms and
aliases, began to confirm an important new voice in experimental music, in
Australian electronic music, and in early ambient music. It was a voice that,
surprisingly enough, caught the attention of Virgin Records, in the middle of
1995. Then a huge, multinational company and a deeply ingrained cog of the
major label machine, Virgin’s interest in an avant garde electronic / ambient
composer from Australia was made yet more perplexing by their decision to
release Schütze’s 100-minute, spoken word opera Second Site on double CD in
1997 |

Far
Out Recordings presents a double bill of two monumental Brit funk classics.
Keep In Touch and Stay were the first two 12” singles by the iconic Freeez,
both self-funded passion projects of its founding member John Rocca, for his
own Pink Rhythm imprint. It all started over the counter at Derek’s Records
on Petticoat Lane, London in the mid-70s. Rocca - at the time a budding
teenage percussionist - met the prolific guitarist, composer, producer and
all round brit funk fixer Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick (also the father of Far
Out producer Daniel Maunick). Best known as the founding member of Light of
the World, Incognito, and more recently Str4ta, Bluey’s involvement in the
origins of Freeez are lesser known, but no less crucial. Bluey invited Rocca
to a weekly jam session in an East London basement, where they would develop
their craft, form their first band Freeez and develop the idea for ‘Keep In
Touch’: “Back in the basement there was this one particular track we were
playing that I really loved. It had a groove that I thought I could sell”
Rocca reminisces. Going against the advice of all the musicians involved, who
thought he was mad and set to lose all his money, John decided to go full
DIY, hire out a high end studio in the West End to record ‘Keep In Touch’ and
release it as a private press, birthing his now famed Pink Rhythm label |

Going
against the advice of all the musicians involved, who thought he was mad and
set to lose all his money, John decided to go full DIY, hire out a high end
studio in the West End to record ‘Keep In Touch’ and release it as a private
press, birthing his now famed Pink Rhythm label. Featuring Bluey on guitar,
Peter Maas on bass, Paul Morgan on drums, Jason Wright on keyboards, and John
Rocca on percussion, Keep In Touch was a surprise underground hit selling
over 5000 copies and reaching #49 in the UK, leading Freeez into a record
deal with Pye / Calibre. Still giddy from the experience of having produced
and pressed his first record at the age of just 19, John set out to do it all
again with ‘Stay’ and ‘Hot Footing It’, enlisting Bluey & co once again.
This time Rocca attempted to take things to the next level by adding vocals
into the mix. Though this new arrangement initially backfired and cost John
the deal with Pye / Calibre who weren’t feeling the slight change of vibe,

aka Modula. The diverse musician has always drawn on a rich musical seam for

goes to Paris via Vienna with complimentary pair Eric Fetcher and Arthur
Robert taking over for a round of cold-blooded club-busting blends. A full-on
hypnotic affair leafing through the darker districts of dubbed-out deep
techno, "RYCL.015" eases us in a sunken realm of unquiet oneiric
folds and further afield, obscure crannies. Fetcher strikes first with
"Arrival" - a pulsating meshwork of distressing signals going pong
on the reverbs, as sturdy kick drums and skittish percussions guide the
groove onto proper club-ready rails via a clinical 4x4 frame. Then comes
Arthur Robert's "Petrichor", an enslaving roller tailored to catch
you in its intricate web of sonar-like bleeping and wild, homing hats let
loose like hounds on their prey, whilst you progressively lose track of your
actual environment to enter a new world of multisensory stimulation and
blurred-out abstraction. Flip the record and here is Robert's

this single is very loosely influenced by the collective experience of the
long wait to be released; adding to the already exhausted canon of cultural
covid artefacts. Cheeks is centred around the sub-bass of an old Italian
organ and the honking sax of Iain McCall, telling the tale of a squashed
individual. The over zealous approach to layers hopefully adds to the feeling
of claustrophobia and mundane delirium. If Cheeks is the wind up, Mild
Weather is the release. An ode to the modern desire of one week in the sun,
accepting that prize and returning back to the slog. Jayne’s beautiful vocal
provides the centre-point to a casio led symphony, with acoustic and
electronic drums fighting for attention throughout. As is the current norm,
these tracks were written and recorded remotely and in a couple of sessions
in Edinburgh at the beginning of 2021 |

Marrakech Emballages Ensemble CDs, recorded in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Long
chill hypnotising trancers with heavenly violins, mighty singers and
psychedelic vortex apotheoses, só fits Think Of One like a glove.

Madou
debuteert in 1981 met ‘Witte nachten’ - zuiver Belpopgoud. Madou is tijdloos
en redelijk cult, een verdwenen groep die na 40 jaar scherp blijft en nu
terugkeert. Niemand die bij ons mooier kan kerven dan Vera Coomans. Denk aan
de weemoed van Marianne Faithfull of het timbre van Beth Gibbons van
Portishead solo. Of aan Arno in het Nederlands. Vrijwel iedereen is er weer
bij. Jan Devos met zowel heropgevist als nieuw tekstmateriaal, Wiet Van de
Leest met toetsen, viool en strijkersarrangementen en Vera Coomans met een
stem die doorheen de jaren alleen maar aan patina heeft gewonnen. Maar/en
heel belangrijk: Madou is herrezen dank zij de volgende generatie. De motor
is Thomas Devos. Zoon van Jan en Vera en muzikaal bekend van rumplestitchkin
en Tommigun. Hij bracht vers materiaal aan dat het vuur liet heropflakkeren
en maakte nieuwe arrangementen voor oude songs. Hij assisteerde bovendien
Peter Van Laerhoven (Woven Hand, Fien Troch) bij de opname en de mix. Ook
Louis Van de Leest, zoon van Wiet, werkt mee. Hij bedacht eerder muziek voor
‘Hotel Impala’ (2007) van Baloji en maakt eclectische beats met MonkeyRobot.
In februari was er de eerste nieuwe single ‘Ronquières’: het eerste proefstuk
van de 'nieuwe' Madou. Deze comeback werd warm onthaald door de Vlaamse
media: Radio 1 (A1 playlist & #7 in de VOX lijst), De Standaard, De
Morgen, Het Nieuwsblad, Gazet Van Antwerpen, Focus Knack, BRUZZ, Artsenkrant,
etc. Deze zomer was Madou al live te bewonderen op Brosella & Boterhammen
In De Stad. Live shows dit najaar: oa De Roma, Botanique, CC Leuven, Café

are writing the year 3021. The very first gene-manipulated virus-free
post-covidians made it to carry their infra speakers back onto earths surface
to play sublows for the concrete jungles, or whats left of them at least.
They brought their ancient rituals and lullabies from their dungeons:
sounding like a dark future of Dub without nice and happy skanking where only
ruff and rugged dirty bone structures have remained the centuries below the
planet's crust. The tribe's chief a.k.a. The Duke Of Dub hands down two bare
riddims with a jukey groove, highly detailed breakbeat layers and anything
closely dubby only greeting from a very far mountain of suffaration:
Everyting Gwan In opens like an easy halftime beat, but sucks the listeners
into its roughness quite fast, allowing no breath or sun inside between all
them sinister soundscapes and speech scraps. Fight Dub appears to be fried in
the same pan at first, but got a slightly more stepping bass, lifting the
classic breaks and vocal bits up into a merciless footwerk climax towards the

jazzier exercise "Vulture's Prayer" should get your mind wondering
into a turn of the 70's London, featuring a hippie gone bad, smacked out in
furs in a hedonistic basement bacchanal, just before discovering himself at
the opening desert scene of the "Holy Mountain". Flipping the disc
over to "Bad Vibrations" we find ourself in a more funkier urban
setting, possibly at a Yusuf Lateef inspired bar session in Chicago's South

first release SUNSAD001 contains three tracks produced Efdemin and Vril.
Sunsad was born before covid hit. The label was on hold as so many others.
The first ep presents a meeting of two longstanding german producers who
follow each others work with greatest respect since a long time: Efdemin and
Vril. SUNSAD001 - Efdemin x Vril - Endless / Purge. The EP opens with
Efdemins long track titled „Endless“. Produced at his Berlin Studio “The
Meadow” it is built around a endlessly progressing organ-pattern, combining
classic Efdemin grooves with shimmering waves of beauty. The 132bpm track is
a journey full of hope after one almost forgot how to dance during the last
1,5 years. The organ sounds connected with a rolling bass-line is a trip far
away from peak-time craziness into transcendent territories. A soft but
hopeful trip to nowhere - endless. On B1 „Purge“, produced by Vril, is meant
by himself as an experience of a selfcleaning process in different phases.
The surprising 7:43 journey is combining different elements of dub sounds,
constant ambient white noise, beautiful chords and punchy hi-hats at the end
of the track. All together a long, warm soundtrack for your personal purge.
B2 is an groovy, punchy interpretation of Vrils „Purge“, remixed by Efdemin -
a transformation from a self cleaning process to a dance floor experience

7 track ep with raw early squad
party acid vibes by this new producer from Russia. "A Broken Clock Is
Right Twice A Day" EP is comprised of 7 tracks recorded in Kazan and
Moscow during various sessions. Some of them go back as early as 2014 and
everything is composed on two 8-track samplers. Alina Izolenta and Kamil Ea
were born in the USSR, so the origin of the acronym PTU is embedded in
everyday life of a country, which no longer exists. The duo spent their
childhood in Siberia and on Volga, and their salad days in music schools and
early clubs of their respective home cities. Back then accessing the Internet
was only possible via pre-paid cards that came in envelopes. Music — via
pirate CDs and endlessly slow mp3 downloads. Friendships would stem from
copying music from hard drive to hard drive. The name PTU came to life in the
middle of 00s, in a rented apartment, literally the last building in some
street on the outskirts, over impromptu synth sessions with friends |

Subjoi has a long history with
Shall Not Fade, an early addition to the Lost Palms series which now hits its
48th release. The Adelaide-based producer had two stunning EPs on the label
in 2020, displaying his signature blends of eclectic dance music styles.
Compared to last year's Bias, Steadfast EP is a more understated affair,
leaving space for Subjoi's production skill to shine. The title track pairs
piano melodies and subtle breakbeat for an emotive sound easing into
"Count It Off", where slow pads give way to a beat that takes
influence from UK garage and jungle. By coupling this high-energy style with
sombre chords, Subjoi makes a uniquely melancholy club track. Yearning vocals
and synth stabs build complexity in "Rapids", a forward late night
number. The closing track keeps the haunting atmosphere of the rest of the
records, fading out as subtly as it began with an organic sound palette
contrasting the stuttering 2-step beat |

Soul
Mass Transit System is a familiar name to fans of Shall Not Fade's highly
popular garage imprint, Time Is Now. The Leeds duo made up of producers D.
Jason and Baby J have been favourites of the series and of the UKG revival in
general, recently scoring a release on another trend-setting label of the
scene, Dr Banana. The Dubble Trubble EP traverses the wide range of very
British club sounds with ease that only comes with expertise, from frenetic
hyper breaks to deep dubstep bass. Opener "Give It 2 U" tempts
listeners in with its dramatic rolling minimalism, forward off-kilter drums
and a chest-rattler of a sub. Sludgy A2 "My Name Is Down" centres a
Niche style bassline, plenty of swing and dubwise sensibility. On the B-side
things ramp up a notch; "Trubble N Strife" tears it open, peak time
cybernetic junglist gear with more than a few tricks up its sleeve. "U
Got Me Burnin" is a real climax; jubilant, hands-in-the-air rave
nonsense that closes out a collection of solid dancefloor toughness with more
choppy breaks |

"Atmospheres" from the ever-talented Michigan producer JTC aka Tadd

from newer Chilean artists MU-GA, a track we released in digital format last
year from their debut EP. Finishing off the A-side is Italian super-duo SONS
OF TRADERS [SOT/Frigio/Black Lodge] aka Tans X Mike Tansella Jr. with the
acidic cut "Indianapolis" also released last year by BL on tape and
digitally from their first full length album entitled "Crollo
Nervoso". Side B blasts off with the early Chicago house inspired track
"Passion" by prolific Dresden producer SNEAKER [Uncanny Valley/Rat
Life/Frigio]. Closing off the comp is a dirty warehouse banger/burner by

Greek electronic music legend Lena Platonos
returns to Dark Entries with Balancers, an LP of previously unreleased
material recorded between 1982-1985. Athens-based Platonos has worked with
the label previously to reissue her three solo LPs - Gallop, Sun Masks, and
Lepidoptera - as well as to release three accompanying 12” EPs featuring
modern remixes of her work. She is renowned for her forays into cutting-edge
electronic experimentation as well as her striking, impressionistic poetry
and lyrics, always recited in Greek. The twelve tracks on Balancers reveal a
murkier side of Lena, one draped in tenebrous washes and oneiric utterances.
Ragged analog rhythms feature on several tracks, even breaking into a
brooding electro groove on “A Cat in the Corner”, but the predominant tone is
sparse and somber. Mournful instrumental “Phaethon” swells to mythological
proportions, while “In September” feels small enough to fit in your pocket.
Lena’s poetry sits amidst lush pads and Radiophonic Workshop-esque squiggles,
her voice setting an intimate tone in the shifting electronic sea.
Inspiration is drawn from Greek mythology and architecture, and lyrics evoke
a soft sorrow, an ambivalence towards love, life, and the passage of time.
Although the material here spans 3 years and features a range of recording
fidelities and synthesis techniques, the collection possesses the heft of a
singular artist’s vision. Balancers was remastered by George Horn at Fantasy
Studios. Eloise Leigh designed the sleeve, which features a doubled Lena in
washed-out burgundy hues, channeling the femininity and mystery of the album.

WWM is happy to welcome one of
the purest talents of the scene, directly from Kyiv, Vladimir Gnatenko.
Vladimir built his reputation with some outstanding live shows, and he is one
of the most interesting artists of the shining Ukrainian scene. The EP is a
perfect example of the diversity of styles he covers, from 4/4 to breakbeat
with a very unique blend of spacey trance sound which is a trademark of his
productions. A side opens up with Storm, an emotional excursion into Vlad’s
art. Nostalgic synth lines evolving into a hedonistic dancefloor banger. A2
is Roosblom, a kidnapping tune that brings you to a dystopic world when new
forms of life are trying to surface. On the flip side, we have Toevlug, the
most introspective piece of the EP. Melancholic sounds and robotic sequences
create a dreamy aura while the sneaky breakbeat held up the tension. Skarrel
closes the EP with a ruthless 4/4 beat combined with a gloomy atmosphere that
finds its climax on the break. That’s pure madness in a big sound system |
