Following last year's reissues of
Loits' first two full-length LPs, NWN! now presents the band's "Furor
Aesticus" compilation on vinyl for the first time. Originally
self-released on CDr, in 2004, and repressed earlier this year on CD (with
two bonus tracks) by Those Opposed Records, this record compiles Loits'
7" trilogy. The material on these three EPs "Legion Estland,"
"Meeste Muusika," and "Raiugem Ruunideks" was recorded
after the debut album, during the time leading up to the release of the
monumental "Vere Kutse Kohustab" LP. Legendary Estonian punk
outfit, JMKE, and avant garde black metal pioneers |

Rising
star of summertime dance music, Barry Can't Swim, is the perfect fit for
Shall Not Fade's Classic Cuts series. His delicate and classy take on house
is a breath of fresh air and ideal for the new, hot weather, teasing the
reopening of clubs and return to freedom that this summer hopes to bring. His
debut release on Shall Not Fade, Amor Fati EP is a perfectly curated four
tracker of jazz with a modern twist, as shown on the opening track and first
single "Lone Raver" and its bittersweet chords that blend with
melancholy vocals and open out into a euphoric dancy beat. The anthemic
trance overtones carry through to "Rah That's a Mad Question",
which takes classic piano house vibes and more summertime heat with its
Balaeric energy. "Jazz Club After Hours" is a triumphant, high
sheen lounge roller with intricate jazz instrumentation and playful
percussion to boot. EP closer, "El Layali" shows the breadth of
influence on this record, as it all coalesces into a catchy house number best
suited to Mediterranean dances in the sun |

The Courettes are a
Danish/Brazillian garage rock duo who combine Phil Spector's Wall Of
Sound-style production with fuzz guitars. 'Back In Mono' is their third LP
and sees them knocking out a bunch of snarling sub-three minute floor
fillers. Think The Ronettes fronting The Ramones |

Kraftwerk
organisation' is the pre-Kraftwerk and they released this unique album in
1969, just before Kraftwerk's birth. A very dense and innovative record,
which escape to any classification: a blend of contemporary music, featuring
many acoustic instruments and early german prog with a hint of psychedelism.
The music is rich and cerebral (without being cold), not structured, but
doesn't lack intensity at any moment. Line-up / Musicians : Florian
Schneider, Ralf Hütter, Butch Hauf, Basil Hammoudi Fred Monicks with Konrad

With
this fifth release on the catalogue's main series, we continue to care about
rising talents and extend to new musical borders. SIWEI is an Antwerp based
producer who made his specialty to blend ambient and techno with moody waves
of distortion and fidgeting modular patterns. The A side takes you on an
industrial tinged techno trip while the other takes the direction of beat
science, and the dark side of dub. A1 feels like a head-on charge in a dusky
and smokey room. It starts with a rolling bassline, introducing the full-on
energy of a mighty steady kick drum stomping over howling pads. An ambitious
track to lose oneself and the ordinary sense of time. B1 is in the lineage of
far-out dub explorations and forward thinking dance experiments. This fractured
cutting-edge aesthetic blends ideally with the reverberating synths and the
eastern vibe of the lead melody. B2 is an epic broken beat stepper, a secret
game for adults, with cinematically engineered sci-fi synths and a ruthless
palette of sounds. It's not just threatening, but also playful, thrilling for
the mind, challenging for the body |

Land
of the Free? with revered classic songs like the incendiary “F*ck Authority,”
was a wake -up call from Pennywise, aimed at the slumbering masses of
America, an attempt to shake people out of their lethargy and prod them into
thinking about the world. Originally released in June 2001, the band’s six
studio album tackled the political and social issues of the day, from police
corruption and mass shootings to elections, topics that 20 years later are
just as relevant. Pennywise have made a name for themselves over the past 33
years as a politi cally minded, melodic hardcore /punk band that has sold
millions of albums and become one of the most successful independent acts of
all time. Formed in 1988, the band played backyard parties in their hometown of
Hermosa Beach, California, without having any aspirations other than playing
as many songs as they could before the police showed up. Hermosa Beach and
the surrounding neighborhoods are a prominent place in popular culture, with
groups like Black Flag, The Circle Jerks and Descendents merging a fast
rebellious sound with the surrounding aggressive surf and skate culture.
Inspired by their predecessors, Pennywise were at the forefront of a second
wave of American punk rock that would catapult the movement from a tightknit
subculture into a worldwide movement |

Di Melo's debut album was
originally released in 1975 and it's a fusion of genuinely Brazilian rhythms
with Funk, Soul and the right amount of psychedelia. Di Melo is one of the
main Brazilian Soul Music artists, seen by many as talented and musically creative
as his peers Jorge Ben and Tim Maia. Di Melo went missing in action from 1976
to 1997, the year his song "A Vida em Seus Métodos Diz Calma" was
on the collection "Blue Brazil" from Blue Note record label. The
word on the streets was that he was dead until 2011, when the documentary
called "Di Melo, o Imorrível" (Di Melo, the imortal) was released.
In this 2021 edition the album contains the original 1975 insert with lyrics
plus photos from personal family archives and for the first time the full
credits with all the name of every single musician who took part, among them,
Hermeto Pascoal |

Los Angeles based band, Los
Lobos, have always been inspired by their surroundings and the place they
call home. Their music is influenced by rock and roll, Tex-Mex, country,
zydeco, folk, R^B, blues, brown-eyed soul, and traditional music such as
cumbia, boleros and norteños. With Native Sons the band set out to showcase
all of these influences with their own take on the songs of Los Angeles from
some of the cities greatest songwriters. Native Sons features 13-songs from
well known LA artists such as Buffalo Springfield, WAR, Jackson Browne and
the Beach Boys as well as deep cuts from the Jaguars, The Basters and The
Premiers. The album title track is the sole original composition written by
the band |

Halloween
Kills' is director David Gordon Green's sequel to the franchise-rebooting
'Halloween' film in 2018, and its soundtrack (appropriately) is composed by
the legendary John Carpenter in league with his son Cody Carpenter and godson
Daniel Davies. Using a mixture of live instrumentation and modern and vintage
synthesizers, they keep the original themes of the movie alive through this
compelling score |

YUKI is the debut solo record by
Basel-based multidisciplinary artist Yanik Soland. Inspired by film scores
and sound design, YUKI is a 40 minute audio-piece in 11 chapters. Musical
characters, each assigned a specific sound (such as a sampled quarter tone
cembalo or synth voices) reappear across the chapters. With a background
playing bass in bands, Soland utilises various collaborative modes on YUKI:
his partner Marianna Angel appears on overdubbed iPhone-recorded piano,
Stefan Tcherepnin plays guitar over one chapter, and a rehearsal recording
with Gleb Glonti forms the canvas for another. YUKI--the name Soland's
parents had planned to give him, if he were a girl--is Japanese for snow,
snow-princess or luck, and is here used as an alter ego within Soland's
practice. YUKI's touchstones include Laurie Spiegel, Mark Fisher, Ruins, Dean
Blunt, Maryanne Amacher, Tyler The Creator, Heather Leigh and Gyorgi Ligeti |

Bonzai
Classics is proud to present the seminal Balearic classic, Café Del Mar from
Energy 52 aka Kid Paul and Cosmic Baby. We first snapped this beauty up in
1996, bringing you the first two tracks from 1993 on 12” and housed in our
vibrant yellow Bonzai branding. Known for its infectious melody, there have
been countless remixes over the years which have charted in territories all
over the world, winning awards left, right and centre. But two of the most
recognisable interpretations, which fed into the hearts of millions, are the
remixes from Nalin & Kane and Three ‘N One. This latest 7” vinyl
collectors edition features radio edits of both tracks and will no doubt be a
much sought-after piece in the collector’s fraternity. The Nalin & Kane Remix
takes us on a deeper trance journey, raiding the senses with warm, calming
pads before lush basses come through and ultimately that famous, instantly
recognisable melody. On the Three ‘N One Remix we’re treated to a masterclass
in remixing, taking the track to the next level with driving percussions,
mesmerizing melody and a full-on emotive break which results in a
hair-raising climax |

Goldie – “These guys are at the
top of their game” Break – “One of the best labels in dnb, very happy to be
involved” Ulterior Motive - “Big tunes” Spectrasoul - “The quality is always
super high” Having survived the dreaded year 2020, we enter 2021 with a new
hope and a brand new release as we welcome Hydro & War back to the fold.
Our 26th offering is their Utopia comeback after almost 2 years since the
release of the critically acclaimed 'Lateral Thinking' LP. As usual this is a
really well-rounded release. The A side ‘Detroit’ sees them joined by their
long-time friend and collaborator, Mateba, for a deep, more musical
excursion. The flip side is an unapologetic heavier, darker vibe to destroy
the dancefloor! Mako: "Well the guys are deadly by themselves and
together they're unstoppable. I love everything, always, and sometimes I'm
lucky to release some of it. From subtle aesthetics to bass pressure and the
balance of wood and energy - love it." |

In
recent years Mattias De Craene has become one of the most idiosyncratic and
controversial saxophonists in Belgium. Not only is he at the helm of groups
such as Nordmann and his own project MDCIII, he is also a welcome guest on
stage and in the studio with artists such as Dijf Sanders, Millionaire and
Sylvie Kreusch. His relentless urge to reinvent himself resulted in a solo
quest that initially only played out behind closed doors at home, but
eventually found its way to an audience for the first time in April 2020 via
a self-titled debut EP that was released on W.E.R.F. records appeared.
Mattias went on the comtemplative tour in search of a highly personal and
more introverted sound, flirting with musical boundaries at the intersection
of minimalism, ambient, jazz and free improvisation. Like a one man orchestra
he takes the listener on a dreamy and slightly conjuring journey. This new
turn in the career of this special artist was appreciated by the press and
the public and the EP sold like hot cakes. However, the quest was and is
anything but over. A year and a half of lockdown brought time and inspiration
to write and play more material. Mattias eventually managed to can a double:
"Patterns for (a) Film". As the title suggests, Mattias takes you
on a cinematic trip in ten tracks. Where on the self-titled EP we mainly
heard a dark, gloomy sound, on this new record Mattias also leaves room for
more light textures and Oriental sounds also seep into the repertoire. Not
only is this album a masterpiece musically, but also graphically Mattias
decided to outdo himself and enlisted the help of designer collective Paule
Josephe and graphic designer Benoît Van Geel |

In 2012 Claus Fovea self released
a cassette containing 10 tracks, he was at his Swedish beginnings. 9 years
later Lux Rec re-discovered his tape and it still sounded so true and
relevant to them that they decided to release it on vinyl. Claus then reworked
some tracks, scrap some, and made few new. Florin Buchel mixed them down and
Andrea Merlini mastered them. The result is a picture frozen in time, in
between now and then, the struggle, and sadness, that fragile construction of
hope shattered as time goes by, like nothing ever change. It is indeed, as he
sings, just the same song playing all the time. Over and over |

Deathmachine presents his second
album, Mutability, a concept record reflecting on the hidden power of
technology. Diving deeper into the themes of Engines Of Creation,
Deathmachine's debut album released in 2013, Mutability considers society's
present dependence on technology before casting off into an imagined future
that is either advanced, destroyed or liberated by escalating automation.
Mutability is Deathmachine's most musically diverse and accomplished record
to date, featuring "classic" Deathmachine-style hardcore drum &
bass with newer excursion into in grimey halftime ("Show Me The
Truth"), techno ("Resilient") and more poignant forms of drum
& bass ("Atoms of Honesty") |

A
lovely surprise here by Luca Duran (aka Look Like) who is following up a
series of stellar EPs with his first solo album. He embarks on a wide-ranging
electronic journey throughout 'Libertas', an intrepid sonic exploration of
the concepts of freedom and independence, two hallmarks of his already
diverse studio work. The uncategorizable Swiss-Colombian producer is
releasing his debut album after a period of creative metamorphosis, during
which Duran's musical output evolved from the dextrous house, techno &
electro of earlier releases under his original production moniker Look Like.
From summer 2019, Luca began releasing solely under his own name and his
style has now grown beyond the traditional dancefloor genres of electronic
music to encompass influences from post-punk and IDM. Seeking to sonically
explore and reflect on concepts of liberty and autonomy, Duran, like all of
us, was soon faced with a lockdown of a very different kind. The result is
'Libertas', an extraordinary album written and produced across 2020 and under
equally extraordinary, world-changing circumstances. Engrossing, imaginative
and political in the tradition of electronic music's innovators, 'Libertas'
mixes Latin philosophy and futurist techniques in order to create something
distinct, future-facing and never less than thoughtful. Beautiful and
versatile release!! |

On
18th April, 1980, after decades of anti colonial struggle, the Zimbabweian
flag was finally raised at midnight at the Rufaro Stadium in Harare. Not long
after, the words "Ladies and Gentlemen, Bob Marley and The
Wailers!" rang out, and Zimbabwe's independent future began. In the
years that followed, Africa was to produce it's own reggae superstars, as the
likes of Alpha Blondy, Majek Fashek and Lucky Dube swept across the continent
and beyond, and there's no doubting Bob Marley's explosive impact on this
particular narrative. Marley's unswerving commitment to liberation and unity
ranged from the sweeping spiritual sentiments of iconic hits such One Love
and Redemption Song to the galvanising, focused tone of 1979's 'Zimbabwe',
and his status as global superstar ensured that his (self funded) part in the
countries' epochal celebrations meant that the history of reggae in Africa
would always be viewed through the prism of his influence ( Wiki/African
Reggae : "In 1980, world-famous Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley
performed in Harare, Zimbabwe, and that concert is often credited as marking
the beginning of reggae in Africa") But in fact, the recorded history of
reggae produced in Africa stretches back over a decade before Marley's
arrival on the continent, and showcases broad pan - diasporic interflows
between the Carribean and Africa, with the UK and the US communities playing
influential supporting roles, all helping shape the evolution and development
of the genre in Africa from late 60's inception to Marley's arrival in 1980,
and then well beyond. Reggae Africa : Roots and Culture, 1972 - 1981 tries to
capture a sense of that evolution, starting in 1972 as Mebussa's ultra rare
'Good Bye Friends' effortlessly captures triangular, transatlantic cultural
interflows, with the short lived Nigerian group's bitter sweet chords echoing
classic US soul, but laid over a gritty, skanking Jimmy Cliff - esque proto
reggae rhythm. |

German
electro producer Martin Matiske has recently breathed new life into his
Blackploid alias. The project's revival continues to bear fruit with the
Strange Stars EP, Matiske's third Blackploid release of 2021 and second for
Central Processing Unit after issuing March's Cosmic Traveler EP through the
Sheffield label. Blackploid's two CPU drops have more in common than just
stargazing titles. Those who enjoyed Cosmic Traveler will find plenty to like
again in these four tracks, with Matiske serving up another quartet of snappy
machine-funk joints this time around. However, while there is certainly a
throughline between Cosmic Traveler and Strange Stars, this EP also finds
Blackploid pushing the envelope at points by taking risks with his synth
tones which thrill and enliven the record. In keeping with the cosmic theme
of Blackploid's recent output, Strange Stars kicks off with 'Star Patrol'.
While this opening cut is full of the same needle-gun basslines and dinky
synths that characterised Cosmic Traveler, the drum programming eschews the
broken beats favoured by many in the scene for a straight house/techno snap.
It makes for a very groovy jam, one with Drexciya, Computer World-era
Kraftwerk and a pinch of Space Dimension Controller in its mix. Indeed, the
only track on Strange Stars which skips along on a broken beat is second
entry 'The Signal' |

On
April 29th Hamburg-based musician Stimming will release his fourth artist
album “Alpe Lusia” on Diynamic Music. It was named after a remote little
alpine hut in northern Italy, in which he had secluded himself to work on his
LP for a full month, all by himself. What could possibly make a grown man
move into a small hut in the Italian Alps and elude civilization for a whole
month? In the case of electronic music artist Stimming it was the work on his
fourth album, which was named after his refuge “Alpe Lusia”. When asked
“why”, Stimming responds with the constant distractions inherent in the
affluent society: “When I reduce the outer impulses, I create a sort of
artificial understimulation which in turn makes all my gear and equipment
appear incredibly attractive again (in the way it actually deserves to be).”
However, even isolation can outgrow you, because Stimming is not just
Stimming, but also Martin Stimming. After two weeks spent with only cows,
goats and sheep, he needed a change of scenery. Or rather, he felt the urge
to consume. In order to see some human faces and civilization, he drove to
the city of Bozen, which is two hours away, and returned with a newly bought
perfume and newly found strength and courage. These four weeks also cast out
an idea Stimming still had since his youth, which was to live as a lonesome
shepherd in the Scottish Highlands. Stimming’s album begins with the rippling
noise of a little creek, and in a way, it is precisely that: A river, which
in its course ingests further streams and by that gains force, while still
remaining the same. At times powerful as a rapid, then again calm as a river
bend, but always originating from the same spring. “I wanted to create
something of my own, a journey that (apart from the basic House formula)
orientates itself as little as possible on contemporary influences”, says
Stimming. If you want to rely on his many colleagues’ feedback, it seems he
has mastered that – e.g. DJ Koze, who says: “I am amazed. Incredibly warm,
stripped down, deep, playful und most of all personal! Almost as if someone
sat in front of his gear while cruising on a cutter boat over the ocean all
by himself (and on Ritalin).” And the cutter boat is indeed part of the
story: After finishing the production of Alpe Lusia on the lonesome lodge,
Stimming went (not without taking a short break amongst people) onto a
container vessel by himself for seven days, sailing through the wintery North
and Baltic Sea from Bremerhaven over northern Sweden back via Rotterdam to
the starting point |

Futureboogie
Recordings is calling time after ten years with a 20-track compilation that
sums up the sound of the lovingly curated Bristol label. From throbbing arps
and noirish guitar twangs to errant analogue blips and ceaseless, rolling
grooves, it’s a different sound to what you might have heard five years back
on the Summer Riot IV compilation, and certainly a long way from the early
days. Consider Futureboogie 102 an ode to evolution as much as a toast to all
the great tracks and the family of artists that have passed through the
wide-reaching Futureboogie sphere since before the label was even a sparkle
in the disco ball. Originally founded by Dave Harvey and Steve Nickolls, the
roots of Futureboogie lie in an intimate Bristol party called Seen. Started
in 2002, this open-hearted session invited the likes of Metro Area, Attica
Blues, Carl Craig, Maurice Fulton, Moodymann and Gilles Peterson – based on
that heavyweight list, you can see the foundations were laid for what was to
come. Futureboogie evolved off the back of these parties as a many-limbed
operation – an artist management and booking agency as much as a club night,
with Harvey and Nickolls consolidating the sound as DJs around Bristol and
beyond. The progression to a record label was a logical one. When
Futureboogie Recordings launched in 2011 with Julio Bashmore and Javeon
McCarthy’s ‘Father Father’, it represented an extended circle of friends
close to the label from Bristol’s deep pool of talent and beyond – amongst
them Eats Everything, Waifs & Strays, PBR Streetgang, Behling &
Simpson and Crazy P. The reach of the label grew in tandem with its
reputation, not to mention the endeavours of the team in other areas of the
music game. The Boogiefuturo label became a vital entity on its own terms,
carrying a lauded DJ Nature remix of Typesun which encapsulates two distinct
generations of Bristolian house music at its best. DJ Nature, who cut his
teeth as DJ Milo in the Wild Bunch days, has gone on to become a regular
feature on Futureboogie, helping define its soulful, adventurous spirit. It’s
also hard to separate Futureboogie from Team Love – events specialists who
share some of the same management. From their flagship Love International
festival in Croatia (having steered The Garden before that) to the Love Saves
The Day weekend in Bristol, the Silver Hayes dance area of Glastonbury to the
Waterworks festival with Percolate in London, you can see the unmistakable
Futureboogie stamp across an international spread of events now. Futureboogie
also hosted scores of stages at festivals across the UK on their own terms
and played globally at iconic spots from Fabric in London to Salon Wilden
Renate in Berlin and D Edge in Sao Paulo. Sonically, Futureboogie shifted its
direction at the halfway point with Fernando’s Mid Decade EP. Artists like
Mark E, Felix Dickinson, Kiwi, Lauer, Ponty Mython, Ruf Dug and Toby Tobias
are of course still intuitively connected with the foundations of disco and
funk, but their sound teases at the edges to shape out a more inquisitive
strain of house. The remixers passing through the label at this time speak
volumes as well – the late, great Andrew Weatherall, Roman Flügel, I:Cube and
Ivan Smagghe amongst them, every one an iconoclast within the strictures of
club music. So we come to Futureboogie 2020, which lands in the wake of a
sterling run of 12”s from breakthrough names like Theus Mago, Zakmina, Chez
de Milo and Warehouse Preservation Society. Across 20 tracks, this expansive
collection celebrates the same omnivorous love of grooves which Futureboogie
embodied before it even had a name. There’s a moodier, freakier strain to the
sound across the compilation, but the tradition of warm, snagging party
starters holds true. It’s a triumphant note to end on. But one has to ask,
why, and what comes next? Harvey, alongside close colleague Bristol DJ Ellie
Stokes, felt the need to draw a line under 10 years of Futureboogie and look
ahead to something new. As such, they’ll be launching a new label called
Small Victories in the near future. For now though, the time is right to
toast a true totem of Bristol’s house music culture and immerse yourself in
an extensive overview of the sound it arrived at, signing off on a resolute
high |

In
over thirty years of regularly meeting with reggae artists and musicians in
the UK and Kingston, I never encountered anything like the feeling of being
around the Xterminator camp during the nineties. It wasn’t just the depth of
talent that owner Philip “Fatis” Burrell could call upon or even the quality
of his productions, but the sense of purpose he instilled in people. At
times, it felt as if he and his group of largely Rasta artists had aligned
themselves with a higher power - not just in their reasoning sessions, but
when someone stepped to the mic and opened their heart, as well as their
mouth. If you recorded for Fatis, you went into the studio empty-handed - no
lyrics - and put your trust in the Almighty. That was the rule and the
artists who passed through Xterminator had to really feel what they were
singing or deejaying about. As you can tell, the music on this album wasn’t
just slapped down in search of hits or a quick buck. The aim was more
profound than that, and nor was it made by people who watched the clock or
sought stardom, but souls brave enough to stand up and speak their truth as
music filled the room and Fatis smiled from the side-lines. The irony is that
whilst they’re hailed as classics today, Xterminator records were hardly
played on the radio in Jamaica - mainly because payola was rife when these
tracks were recorded, and the idea of a DJ playing music for reasons other
than love or solidarity was never going to impress Fatis, whose earliest
production here dates from 1990. Four years after recording Hot Stepper, Ini
Kamoze had the biggest hit of his career with a revamped Here Comes The
Hotstepper but the original version, stripped of bombast and samples, makes
the same point just as well. “Hot stepper” is Jamaican slang for a badman,
which is how Gregory Isaacs uses it in the lyrics of Make Me Prosper. That
song is another of the Cool Ruler’s ghetto confessionals, whereas Ini’s
advice - reggae warriors please take note - is to “stand strong, don’t fear
no one. Live good with everyone.” Sugar Minott was one of the first artists
to voice for Fatis and Run Tings isn’t a boast, but a warning to our
so-called betters. Listening to it in 1992, it was easy to believe that the
tide was turning. Soon afterwards, Fatis - who was born in Birmingham, UK,
but raised in Kingston - dropped the “E” from Exterminator and hired Dean
Fraser as the label’s musical director. With Dean overseeing the vocals and
harmonies the quality of recordings improved markedly, aided by Sly Dunbar’s
sledgehammer snare drum, backing band the Firehouse Crew’s growing maturity
and a new generation of Jamaican roots reggae artists led by Luciano and

Radio Slave returns to his Rekids
imprint this October with the perfectly balanced ‘Acid Dip’ single. The
titular track on ‘Acid Dip’ sees Matt ‘Radio Slave’ Edwards in particularly
strident form. Riding a broken, stuttered-kick rhythm, ‘Acid Dip’ is a jabbing,
insistent slice of UK techno shot through with hardcore and, whilst not
skimping on raw power, still maintains the hypnotic nature that inhabits much
of Edwards’ work. On the flip, ‘Armani’ takes off down a dubbed-out,
futuristic Italo-infused house workout that, throughout its eleven minutes
28-second span, shows a more dense, layered side to Radio Slave production.
Another triumph of a single from one of modern electronic music’s most
consistent talents, Radio Slave’s ‘Acid Dip’, is released 15th October via

Earlier
this year this realm lost a great visionary in the form of Jasen Loveland aka
Andrew Smith aka infinity. He was the embodiment of the spirit of No Way
Back, a true cosmic being. Via his almost endless flow of tunes through his
Infinite Refractions, he released music under countless names and
collaborations, far too many to name here, and left us with many terabytes of
unreleased music that we are still processing and compiling. Interdimensional
Transmissions? Acid Series began as a vehicle to release his music, with the
first volume being released at No Way Back at the Tangent in Detroit in 2017,
was available in the merch booth during all the 313: Return to the Source
events, which is fitting, because this is the context he made the music for.
He is also half of Pervocet, along with Patrick Russell, who did the 5th
volume of the Acid Series, released for 2019?s Samhain event. The forthcoming
final record of the planned series is his. This record was recorded in LA,
and mixed with BMG at the Interdimensional Laboratories, Detroit. We mixed a
total of 8 songs in 2 days and chose 4 for the EP in a fascinating session
where we learned so much from each other. The demos for the follow up EP kept
adding up and mutating so fast that we had enough for another 4 EPs a year,
and that is how the concept of Infinite Refractions was born. His passing has
reminded us of what a record label is, a place for releases and events, sure,
but really an interconnected web of people, a form of family and a platform
of ideas that endure beyond us all. Andrew was on that plane. So please enjoy
this communication from another dimension in the form of the record that
launched the mind melding psychedelic hysteria of Jasen Loveland to the
universe |

Justin Cudmore is the latest in
the line of midwesterners to emerge from the Brooklyn music scene, hailing
originally from Illinois. And you can hear it in his music, that mesmerizing
midwestern groove and deep heady thoughtfulness. He debuted on Honey Soundsystem
Records, has released on The BunkerNY and is member of Hot Mix, a DJ trio
that also includes Mike Servito and Gunnar Haslam. To celebrate 10 years of
No Way Back (a regular party in Detroit...and beyond), the label is launching
the Acid Series, a series of records on Interdimensional Transmissions
inspired by the No Way Back parties. The Acid Series includes submissions
from Tin Man & Ectomorph, Jasen Loveland, Justin Cudmore, BMG & Derek
Plaslaiko, Jordan Zawideh, Dona, and Romans. They all arrive in a unique
sleeve especially created for this series, inspired by the decorations of
NWB. The first 2 volumes of the Acid Series will be available in the merch

The
Acid Series celebrates over 10 years of No Way Back, with music that directly
references that experience. This is the third volume in the series, to be
followed by BMG & Derek Plaslaiko, and there will be four more after this
pair, with records by Tin Man & Ectomorph, Dona, Romans, and Pervocet
(Patrick Russell & Jasen Loveland) yet to come. They all arrive in a
unique sleeve especially created for this series, inspired by the decorations
of NWB. Jordan Zawideh's music perfectly reflects his personal migration from
Detroit to Chicago. It somehow combines the raw elegance of a Larry Heard
demo (listen to the demos of ''A Path'' or ''Acid Dreams'' and cry) with
Detroit Techno and an unconscious take on the sonic exploration of Drexciya,
showcased in songs like ''Magellanic Cloud'' and ''Trails of Sophia''. In
Jordan's sound, the raw power of the cassette era of Chicago House combines
with a Detroit Acid Dream. His debut record was on K Starke Records in 2014,
and while he was working at the store, the concept for ''No One (Jacks The
Box)'' came together. Kevin Starke proposed a concept for a collaboration,
using an old Chicago radio ad, so Jordan borrowed a 303 & 707 from Kevin
and some gear from Beau Wanzer, but Kevin never made the session. Ultimately
we had master editor Gay Marvine edit this instant lost classic. Jordan has
also released on the Nation box set, and is part of the No Way Back family.
Jordan lives like a monk, in total dedication to learning his machines and
advancing his craft. He is also an accomplished DJ. BMG on his edit of
''Magellanic Cloud'' - this is my fantasy version of this jam, its so lost in
it, like a cool mature Chicago take on Gerald's jam for the Silicon Ghetto

with records by Tin Man & Ectomorph, Dona, Romans, and Pervocet (Patrick

is the 3rd collaboration between BMG & Derek Plaslaiko, each
collaboration has been inspired by No Way Back. For this one, BMG was working
on a modular based acid live show for the No Way Back 10th Anniversary, and
from that vibe we created these songs. The A side references Sonic's Rendezvous
Band's best lost single, they were a legendary Detroit Rock band from the mid
70s featuring founding members of the MC5 and The Stooges. The B Side was the
opening salvo of this 3rd collaboration, a day after a Detroit party we had
played together. We had just received the terrible news about so many of our
friends in Oakland, we could think of nothing else. This is our sonic
reaction. The B Side concludes with an open jam presented as a bonus beat,
the perfect conclusion to these feelings |

Rushing us headlong into a
vorticist maelstrom of hard-edged drum stutter and polychromatic synth
fragmentation, Sansibar sophomore long-player for Kalahari Oyster Cult -
?Sans Musique? - tackles the very essence of post-trancey, breaks-loaded UK
blends with unabashed joy to wreak havoc on his path. Throughout seven tracks
oozing burnt kerosene and depleted uranium residue merged with a hint of
sacred incense, Sansibar deploys his extra-wide vision for the present and
future of dance music |

Starting
off with this first release IPRM001, Romanian producer Andi delivers two very
strong originals. The record starts with a very housey and groovy track on A
side, followed by ‘a darker one’ on B side. Both tracks are followed by two
distinctive remixes from Cally and Dragosh respectively. A2 is remixed by
Cally and characterised on a dark line with a splendid groove , deep synths
and intricately layered percussion. B2 comes from Dragosh with a nice
rhythmic structure, combined with deep bass driven undertones and amazing
synths at the core of the song. IPRM001 is more of a collaboration between
the three Romanians who used to be flatmates in Milan back in 2011 while they
were studying at Uni together, and used to produce music on a daily basis, experimenting
with analog synthesis, software and hardware + weekly studio sessions. Andi
has previously released with both of his close friends as a duo ‘Andi &
Cally’ followed by their second project known as ‘Disuasiv’ including
Dragosh. Their previous records were signed and released by Fear of Flying,
Only300, Memoria, WE OR US and others. Widely sold around the world and
reaching Top10 electronic music-vinyl sales in Japan with their very
successful Disuasiv EP from Brouqade in 2014. Like any other record, there’s
a lot of hard work that goes into it, so we hope you will enjoy it! |

Mexico's
Lokier gears up for her first release with Lenske, "Back To Life
EP". Based in Berlin by way of her hometown Mexico, Lokier has firmly
cemented her spot within the European underground scene with appearances at
Berghain and Tresor, as well as renowned international venues and festivals
Reaktor, Contact, Dimensions, CTM, Nuits Sonores & more. "Back To
Life EP" marks Lokier's debut on Lenske, showcasing her ability to fuse
the worlds of industrial, rave, techno and trance with an electrifying 3
tracker. Opening the record is "Back To Life", a minimal techno
highlight with deep, foreboding pads and wavering synths. Understated hi-hats
and a determined kick drum match with galloping elements, making this opener
a solid peak-time pursuit. Dynamic and energetic without being overstated,
Lokier produces a seamless track that starts as a meek series of chords and
ends in a ferocious triumph. Far heavier and darker than the opener is
"Dimension". This raucous cut bridges the gap between techno and
electro, with acid dripped notes and keys that twinkle and echo menacingly. A
heaving kick drum and baseline are determined to bring an ominous energy to
the forefront while maintaining the fierceness of the initial elements.
Without any respite, the track determinedly drives on and commands you to
move right up until the final kick. "Call Me" is the final journey
on this record, utilising razor sharp synths and ridged hi-hats. A techno
charger from the jump, it's the perfect mid set dynamo, bursting with energy
and raw, unbridled power. A pummeling kick drum sets the pace with a moody
baseline and crashing cymbals bringing a more rounded texture. Ethereal synth
notes duet the deep, grungy synths that expertly balances the mood while
alarm bells ring overhead |

monokimono brengt een eclectische
collab-EP uit bij Small Art (N.E.W.S.). Willem Ardui, puntjudith, Vic
ligt monokimono's tweede plaat klaar.

Northern stars of the Time Is Now
series, Soul Mass Transit System, are back for their fourth full-length
outing on the popular garage imprint with All I Need. The duo, both
established producers in their own right, bring infectious grooves and cheeky
samples to shake off the winter blues to. Sax-infused opener
"Freak-ee" serves up shuffling two step and retro vocals - gentle
diva intonations giving a housier edge to the sound. "Show U Love"
criss-crosses between crooner samples and a classic, dirty dub-driven delight
for late night punters. Skippy snares and cleverly glitched up samples make
an earworm melody in "All I Need (Deepa Inside)", before the tempo
is pumped up speed garage style for the closing track "The Message".
If the rumbling dubwise melody doesn't control the dancefloor, the
tantalisingly elongated second drop will |

The
latest entry from Furanum sees label boss Dominik Muller and repeat
contributor Tomohiko Sagae return from remix duties on the label's preceding
long play release for a four-track split vinyl treatment of Fu020. On The
Other Colours of Poison, acting apart yet seemingly as one, they both
dispense with nearly any pretense of an introduction, epilogue, or abstract
ambiences, and instead opt for a pure and dancefloor-bound effort of
four-to-the-floor industrial relentlessness encapsulated in two compositions
to a man. Sagae notably eschews his signature noise-manifesto driven approach
in favour of a compelling centering of groove as a prime determinant of
musical force. The results of this approach are on display first in
'Tartrazine,' where a rhythmic mind-worm seemingly burrows it's way in,
assimilating and holding the beholder in a frantic dance of oscillatory sway.
Likewise, in 'Amaranth' an ineluctable sense of technoid acceleration is
achieved, with each of the composition's successive loops driving the sense
of propulsive sonic force relentlessly forward, not unlike the turning of a
violent accretion disk tearing matter apart. As for Muller, he builds on his
previous work to construct two reliable aural vehicles for the delivery of
unrelenting and thematically oriented vehemence. 'Demut' is like a scene of
surrender to an engineered and shifting collosus, overwhelming all attempts
at its full apprehension as cogent reverberations puncture the surrounding
temporal space. On the flipside, in 'Toxic Environment,' he captures the
narratively framed pulse of a phrenetically beating heart, beating on despite
all odds through sheer force of will and self-overcoming. Mastered by Kassian
Troyer |
