We
always had a weak spot for upcoming talent. It’s one of the most interesting
phases in an artist’ career. A bright future in the making is exciting to see
develop before your very eyes It’s a period where everything is still
possible, open and giant steps are easily made. Doka is such a talent.
Hailing from beautiful Heerlen and now residing in Amsterdam, his demo’s
caused quite the stir in Wolfskuil HQ. Doka’s uncomprimising, relentless
techno productions have been extensively roadtested, leaving dancefloors in
shatters. So it’s due time for his first vinyl release. The main track
Exigent is the most subtle one of the package. But don’t be fooled be it’s
deceiving friendliness. This is peaktime techno at it’s best: big breakdowns
and climaxes, timed perfectly for maximum effect. And the flipside it gets
bigger, fatter and nastier. Ximul reminds of old 90’s Speedy J releases on
Nova Mute (remember the Collabs series?) with it’s gruesome, acidic bassline
and clever industrial sounddesign. Kahn is made of the same cloth, but takes
it more on the hypnotic tip. And this is just the beginning of a promising
career, one to watch |

former Spacemen 3 drummer and multi-instrumentalist self-released and sold
out of a limited run of 300 copies of the album earlier in the year to great
acclaim, including a rave review in Mojo and it was album of the month in
Rough Trade Shops who described the album like this: "Lavishing in pop
structures but drawing in myriad influences to the wondrous black hole, The
Call Of The Cosmos features some shimmering spaciousness but also sleazy

mysterious figure lurking in the background supplying beats and tunes. But

Guitarist
Chris Forsyth is a unique voice in the realm of American music, having
emerged from the challenging free form expressionism of his old group
Peeesseye with a lyrical command rare in any genre. Forsyth has always relied
on the vernacular of country and blues to make his point, while also
maintaining an open-ended and experimental approach, collaborating with
artists as varied as free folk goddess Meg Baird, noise-oriented trumpeter
Nate Wooley, and analog synthesist Koen Holtkamp (of Mountains) along the
way. His newest work brings his trademark lyricism to new heights in his most
straightforward setting yet. Gone are the fleshed out rock band arrangements
of last years Paranoid Cat LP, replaced on Kenzo Deluxe, by Forsyth shunning
overdubs and playing his transcendent songs alone in a room on his electric
guitar. On top of a dedication to hypnotic Cosmic Americana, Forsyth
possesses a remarkable technical skill.. The twopart "Boston Street
Lullaby," on the other hand, shows the other reaches of his artistry.
His bluesier side gives rise on " Boston Street Lullaby No. 1,"
drenched in soft reverb, while the waves of distortion on "Boston Street
Lullaby No. 2," serve as a centerpiece for the album, showing his love
for noise and the pure sound of the electric guitar. Its the albums opener,
however, which will no doubt be the attention-grabber. Named for the Rolling
Stones decadent and illfated 1972 tour documentary, "The First 10
Minutes of Cocksucker Blues" is an ethereal, imaginary score punctuated
by slapback echo and guitar licks that wouldnt sound out of place on a Group
Doueh or Tinariwen record. And Forsyth has even paired it with the opening
sequence of the never-officially-released film (see it at
http://tinyurl.com/cocksuckerblues). Its a bold move, bringing the Americana
back home by way of the Brits who adored it so, and at the same time giving
their stumbling boogie rock an almost ambient soundtrack. Forsyth recorded
the album over three days in the studio with the assistance of co-producer
Scott Colburn, who has worked extensively with the Sun City Girls and Richard
Bishops solo projects as well as Animal Collective and others. The result is
a richly recorded album of five rewarding and listenable tracks. With no loss
of vision, Forsyth has created his most accessible album to date, one that
will engage guitar geeks, freak folks and the uninitiated alike in its
trance-inducing glow |

The
title alone is portentous, at the very least semi/evil sounding. Fear not,
there are no devils, demons, or witches lurking in these woods. Instead we
have a heretofore almost completely unknown and rarely spoken of album of
nine original tracks, self/released on the legendary RPC Records label by a
group of self/motivated teens from Pennsylvania. Luckily for lovers of
musical mayhem, the Case got access to their school music room and a
four/track recorder over a Christmas break in 1971. A rock/solid,
hard/driving rhythm section lays down the necessary underpinning for moody
organ and beautifully/toned guitar. There is sheer joy at play here, a kind
of rock -n- roll exuberance/with ample raw talent and wicked riffing/which
shines through on every cut. Terrific raw, primitive album, simultaneously
loose and intense, like the Velvet Underground at their best. Terrific

the scarcest Dutch punk records that was listed in the top 25 European punk
rarities in Record Collector. THE VULTURES hailed from Epe, in the middle of
the Dutch Bible-Belt. They recorded this 4 Track EP in 1981 that overtime has
became impossible to find. Which is a shame as it is simply a masterpiece of
Dutch Punk. Loud, proud and snotty, the sound is based around a trademark
chainsaw guitar tone, plodding bass, passionate vocals and overall a clear UK
influence. Without doubt if this band was english they would have been on
Riot City, Rot or Secret Records or seen supporting the MAU MAUS, THE
EXPLOITED or both DISORDER's (Bristol and North East). Reissued replicating

History are a scorching post-punk trio from Berlin who make a big deal out of
little things, sometimes vice versa. Pressing of 500 copies worldwide on
180GM black vinyl. Clear History’s debut mini-album is entitled 'bad advice
good people' and will be released by Upset The Rhythm on November 5th. The
six songs here cast a huge net across themes of raucous opposition, identity,
closeness, gifting and exploding cars. They are a full-hearted call to arms
from a stubborn Aries concerned with wasting time and energy. With such
rapport for the touchstones of danceable post-punk (ESG, Kleenex, Gang of
Four) Clear History are proud hi-hat botherers, bounding along with the
plummy bassline, joining the dots whilst thinking to the beat. This debut
documents the tantalising first sparks from a band intent on holding up a
magnifying glass to the sun. Their influences include correct grammar,
Rihanna & ‘The Waiting Room’ by Fugazi. They make muscular songs about
intimacy whilst dreaming of an extravagant breakfast the day after the
rapture. What will the dance floors look like over there? What music will

the new SERWED III on Flaty's promising ANWO RECORDS, Flaty and OL set out to
explore and celebrate the altered visions of today's mundane futurism with a
kind of keen aesthetic intuition that could only be enabled by the vast
volume of their listening, production, and teaching experience. Following the
first two SERWED albums on Asyncro and West Mineral Ltd., the current fruits
of the flourishing long-time collaboration between OL and Flaty comprise an
oddly coherent kaleidoscopic set of free-wheeling journeys across varied
pseudo-desolate soundscapes full of anomalies and sometimes thrills. Beyond
the now seamless blending of the artists' individual styles, a whole bunch of
other boundaries get blurred on the record, whether it be between the human
and computer data processing algorithms, originality and referentiality,
anxiety and euphoria, signal and noise. SERWED III postmodern world is the
one where the orbital space is just another littered parking lot, neural
networks are appreciated mostly as a source of absurd imagery, and delivery

Musician/producer
Eric Hilton takes listeners on a blunted journey through space with his new
album, Ceremony, 13 tracks of emotive interstellar psychedelia, out on August
20th. Hilton’s masterful ability to mix disparate musical ingredients was
well established during his 25-year tenure as cofounder of the legendary
genre-hopping downtempo electronic music act Thievery Corporation. But in his
newfound solo work, the artist has crafted a sonic universe uniquely his own.
Ceremony is the 3rd solo record Hilton has released during the past year, a
period of prolific awakening for the veteran musician and producer, which the
album title alludes to. Ceremony acknowledges the exercise of sitting alone
to draw musical vibrations from the ether, which I do on a regular basis,”
says Hilton. It’s the most centering, grounding thing I do, and I didn’t
really do it until I became a solo artist. Now I’m hooked. Interpreting life
experiences, consciousness, and putting that into a musical form - that's the
ceremony.” Hilton moved house from D.C. to a more rural setting prior to the
making of Ceremony and the bucolic surroundings had a definite influence on
the writing process for this album. Being in nature brought more of an
‘ambient’ aspect into this record – “I like certain aspects of ambient
music.” said the artist, “but Ceremony grooves far too purposefully to be
mistaken for anything like a traditional ambient record”, so those aspects
manifest themselves here as an intelligent spaciousness within which the
songs exist. While Ceremony was birthed in the wilds of Maryland, sonically
the boundaries of this record seem to exist outside the earth’s atmosphere.
With track titles like “Particles”, “Forming Star”, “Adrift”, and “Fade into
Forever”, it’s easy to imagine Hilton as the lone passenger tripping on some
giant starship, looking through the viewscreen and jamming along on his bass
while stars are born or die. An acoustic guitar solo brings the album’s title
track to an elegant pause before building the song back up again - a moment
Hilton calls “pure 1970"s rock”. And on “Who Are You?” (one of the first
singles), crystalline melodies intertwine like near misses in an asteroid
field. Needle dropping, the songs work as individual episodes drawn from an
epic cosmic journey. But no matter how deep into space Ceremony brings the
listener, they will never feel cold or alone in the void. There is warmth and
humanity in this music, which can surely be mapped to Hilton’s deeply
personal composition process. “Creativity is always purely personal. I'm a
big believer in artists only making art for themselves, I find it dangerous
when you start thinking too much about what the listener might like,” said
the composer. “You have to start with yourself if you want to effect other
people |

The
sixth release on Phoq U Phonogrammen, the sordid and rash U-TRAX sublabel,
may be from its least known artist, but it is our personal favorite Phoq U
release. The style can perhaps best be described as acid funk. Though the
drums and bass lines generally are rather tight, all tracks have these quirky
synth lines that give them a rather funky, dark 'cyborg feel'. Lynx is Reyer
Caderius van Veen - and he didn't chose that name himself. Reyer is from
Groningen, the mayor city in the most northern region of The Netherlands.
It's a vibrant student town, with lots of music going on. In the 90s, Reyer
participated in a techno-foundation, together with Thee J. Johanz (Ballyhoo
Records) and Johan Sagel, who released a 12" as Jo-I on U-TRAX in 1995.
Together with Johan, Reyer also formed a band called L.A.P. 01 (Live Acid
Performance), which released a 12", a 10" and a remix on Jan
Liefhebber's Highland Beats and a track on Ballyhoo Records (BALL 100). Harsh
starts off with some terribly hard and high tones, that sound like a nuclear
plant is going to melt down. The ferocious bassdrum and grunting acid bass
line add to the uncomfortable mood. What makes us really happy is Sex On
Jupiter. It's a rushed track that completely opens up around the 1:20 mark
with a desolate, yet funky sawtooth 303 bassline. On the flipside, Changes
brings a nice pumping rhythm combined with a rolling bassline with all sorts
of disturbing sounds on top. The EP closes off with another highlight of
darkness: Dark Mission. The track has a lovely flow, but really starts to
space you out as soon as a hoarse sounding pulsating synth spreads it wings
across the deliciously bubbling 303. To be short: this is an uncomfortable
record, and we love it! |

On
her debut album Belgian-based multi-instrumentalist Ann Eysermans explores
the possibilities of the train as a music instrument: a deep quest into a
fascinating and mesmerising world, which started as a five year old kid, when
she climbed on board of the train helm station during a trip from Antwerp to
Ostend. For the compositions 'Prelude and Fuga For Four Diesel Locomotives
And Harp' Eysermans had the chance to capture the sounds of diesel
locomotives (HD 51, 54, 55 and 60) of the Belgian Train World Heritage
collection. Microscopic hissing vibrations of steaming engines slowly entwine
and resonate with fragile harp playing, getting on track for an
unconventional sonic rail journey. A melancholic odyssey of sound in motion:
Ann Eysermans let the sparkling harp notes dissolve into the tones of
pulsating train wheels. On the B-side she bends her soft singing voice around
deranged horn melodies in 'Le Départ', connect delayed organ harmonies in 'De
Vertraging' with the dying frequencies of a trembling and humming locomotive
from the 60's, On the key track 'For Trainspotters Only' Ann Eysermans
assembles a hauntingly piece of musique concrete with clanging chimes, broken
music boxes, ghostly whispers and throbbing machine room sounds. A lonely
barking dog and the last train announcement on a desolate platform in
'Chorale' also mark the last part of this spellbinding record. On 'For
Trainspotters Only' Ann Eysermans takes you on an immersive and meandering
ride, connecting the dots between the free spirit of Alice Coltrane, the
orchestrated field recording compositions of Chris Watson and the magic
realism of Claire Rousay. For Trainspotters Only by Ann Eysermans is a

the sweet, catchy voices of Stella Baraldo and Dominique Bouvier. A real
powerful b-boy anthem and club joint alike, which is interpreted in five
additional versions on a six track 12" vinyl release. Guests on the
A-Side are DJ KID STRETCH (Greece), FUNKY BOOGIE BROTHERS (Belarus) who is
giving the tune a new flow in the oldskool b-boy direction. On the flip side

arranger for theatre productions across Europe, classically trained multi

room here to list his amazing work. 2018 ushers forth a new identity to his
already enviable C.V with his first EP as James Dole (a jokingly anglicised
version of his birth name). The 3 tracks here all showcase his ability to
create a strong mood and use great splashes of melody and rhythm but without
ever losing the groove. Written during a period of 'introspection' in
deepest, darkest Berlin, each one tells a different story. Ex is a moody
monster of a track. It builds and builds into a pounding nightime symphony
with a kind of epic-ness which hints at many years spent mining the highs and
lows of music, love and life. Big room yet with a gut wrenching soul beneath
the slightly flamboyant majesty. Made in East Berlin and well road tested in
the cities debauched nightclubs. Fantasia shows off Mr Doles jazz and broken
beat background with rolling, funky drums sashaying with hip hoppy live jazz
keys. Then those signature euphoric yet melancholic synths appear halfway
through the track to create an emotionally halcyon mood. WIBES. The EP closes
with Grande. Super melodic yet cinematic with amazing synth work and a

Following Hammer's stand out
release on Loft Records last year, 'Canna' gets the remix treatment by four
killer producers. First up, Lauer adds his trademark flavour to the already
outstanding title track 'Canna', bending the mind with an acidic top line and
classic Korg M1 bells.The A2 sees Supreems take the techno edge off 'Man Ray'
replacing the drums with a more electro tinged style of rhythm, whilst
echoing the synths into the back of the mix to let the drums take the
foreground. Flip it over and you get two reworkings of 'Manaka'. Firstly,
Domenic Cappello switches the breaksy flow of the original for a more club
ready kick to compliment those stabs, in turn elevating the breakdown to

together 24 iconic songs from that era, with a focus on the theme of love
songs (A + B side) as well as social political songs (C + D side),
highlighting the emotions that this music brought to the popular working
classes of Lima, nationwide and the diaspora. More than 30 years later, these
songs continue to resonate like the mirror of a country that was reborn but
this time is looking at itself and its own identity. From the mid-1960s
onwards, there was a unique moment of fusions in Peruvian culture brought
about by Andean migration from the countryside to the city which gave rise to
adaptations and intercultural mixing. The culture and music they brought
created the powerful genre of Andean tropical cumbia, via electric
instruments and arrangements along with modern, popular pop sounds, creating
a legacy that is alive to this day. Musical revolutions are often born from
the people. Peruvian “chicha” cumbia is the music born in the "barrios
bajos” (slums), alleys, hills and the peripheries of Lima on the coast and
cities on the edge of the Andes mountains in the late 70’s and 80’s. The true
new Peruvian sound was not played with folk instruments but with guitars and
timbales. In the 60’s and 70’s Peruvian tropical music was characterized by
psychedelic hybridity and instrumentals for mass delight, by the mid-70s the
appearance of a "class consciousness" and therefore a subaltern
narrative. “Chicha” is perhaps the genre that has most emphasized its pride
in being proletariat, itinerant, provincial and hardworking. Founded in Lima
by Juan Campos Muñoz, a businessman, dreamer, and also a lover of music,
Discos Horóscopo was a label company on the margins of the official Peruvian
music industry. Learning the ins and outs of capitalism in the 80’s was hard
because it was the decade where the wildest neoliberal policies and the most
extreme Maoist sendero luminosa revolt began
simultaneously. On Juan Campos’s end, it was the moment to initiate
this new venture of Chicha music, which would allow Chicha to emerge
symbolically (and then economically) to a new social class composed mostly of
migrants, landless peasants, and proletarians without a factory. Between 1977
and 1987, the Discos Horóscopo label produced the largest wave of Andean
tropical cumbia in the world; Chicha, a reference to the fermented alcoholic
drink from the Andes. The label was filled with contemporary icons such as
Chacalón y La Nueva Crema, Los Shapis, Pintura Roja, Los Ovnis, Grupo Alegría
and other groups which today still have a cult status in Peru and beyond.
Together they created a unique style with the capacity to talk about both
love and uprooting, unemployment, struggle of classes, internal violence and
impossible loves |

Token
sees the return of Brussels-based Border One for 4 tracks of no nonsense,
body focused music. This collection of tracks, meant to deliver
uncompromising groove, affirms Border One's sonic identity through his use of
evolving yet persistent tension brewing above hypnotic elements. This
signature storm adds a dimension to Cyclone that guides the listener between
club and mind by adding this constant yet recognizable anticipation. The EP
opens up at full capacity with the title track; bent metallics over an
intimidatingly deep kick are stalked and circled by a sinister pad that
leaves only to release maximum tension. This peak-time cut is followed by the
subdued A2 'Halo' where, this time, melodic ambience is prioritized. Light
toms drive us forward to undress a track with a patiently strained
arrangement, partially through a filter only opening fully midway through,
imposing the producer's pace. Border One then lifts the energy with 'Stratus'
through 1/16th rhythmics with an almost psychotic arpeggio and tunneling hi
hats in a track that can be visually described as racing fractals. The
invigoratingly hypnotic quality of 'Stratus' creates an ultimate closed-eye
dance floor experience to then pull us into 'Spheric' that closes the EP out
in an entirely new but familiar cosmic atmosphere. Space is given to this
last cut, with short plucked synths resonating through vast soundscapes,
giving the project an ethereal closing over lighter, bouncing percussion |

Pendletons return with their latest EP, Funk Forever, a Jazz flavored boogie
affair with soul inspired song-writing that evokes old school vibes while
still staying fresh and current. Horn lines, Yamaha dx7 keys and snapping hip
hop inspired drum programming topped by sweet singing with heartfelt themes,
the group carves out a bold new sound on these 5 solid tracks. Featuring
Elive, Potatohead People and Ishtar. The Pendletons are a long-standing
boogie-funk and modern soul project of E da Boss (of Myron and E on Stone's
Throw) and Trailer Limon. The group emerged with their very first release in
2010, a 7" inch of "Coming Down/Waiting On You" on the Slept
On record label, which set the tone for the group to emerge... it instantly
became a cult classic receiving constant play at nights like Sweater Funk and
Funkmosphere, and fetching for serious sums among collectors. Most recently,
in 2016, they released the EP "Gotta Get Out". The title track
caught the ear of renowned DJ Gilles Peterson, who liked it enough to release
it on his Brownswood Bubbler compilation. In 2018 the group is hitting the
ground running with a brand new EP out this spring, and a full-length album
to follow later later in the year on the renowned Bastard Jazz label. Now
armed with a horn section, a vast array of accomplished jazz and funk
contributors, and a knack for quality song-writing, the Pendleton's sound has
shaped into something fresh and unique, setting it apart from the legions of

say good things come in threes and that's certainly the case for Shapes of
Rhythm: a new year, a new artist and their new release! Announcing the
mysterious D. Lynnwood's Connect EP. Four tracks of dancefloor-friendly music
blurring the lines between house, disco and the 80s boogie sound. You won't
know D. Lynnwood but in some ways you already do. A South London based
Parisian, he's previously released music on a number of UK labels, but
recently decided to start afresh with a newer musical outlet. Armed with a
studio full of synths and drum machines he set out on a new course. This EP
is the first fruits of this new nom de plume. Gospel Discotheque, (which
features label-mate BodyMoves) is that peak-time club hit in waiting. A
series of uplifting soulful gospel vocal hooks underpin the track we defy you
not to sing along to. The solid 4/4 beat and percussive workout is
accompanied by a moving bassline to create one of the most feelgood
dancefloor tracks of 2018, guaranteed! Bitcoins ramps the pace a notch higher
and is a straight up synth and drum machine jam. With a beat that is faithful
to the best boogie tracks of the early 1980s, the track is driven on by a
darting synth lead and a repeating pitched down vocal. Snare drum rushes and
more layers of synth textures keep this one jacking along nicely. D. Lynwood
brings the tempo down a little for The Vault but maintains the machine-based
groove. With a drum sound harking back to Prince's When Doves Cry, this is
Connect's funkiest track thanks to its bass and synth line combo. The EP
closes with the sci-fi inspired Space Agent. Dominated again by a synth
bassline and a crunching drum machine this is a more atmospheric groove with
vocal samples returning to hold down the mood. Available on limited vinyl

Some
people are just not destined to have enough sleep. When you don't sleep
enough the world appears to be a different place, compared to the way it is
when the mind is fully rested. In such cases very different scenarios may
occur. Starting with a dreamy melody of Roma Zuckerman's 'Sleep not found',
which inspired the entire trip 008 album, and ending with a thirteen minute
live recording by a_000, the side project of Alex Backdrop, the entire record
has a dreamy and tripped out flow. Trip 008 continues the tradition of
gatefold double EPs as conceptual album. All tracks are selected around a
particular story, a trip, and presented as a continuous sonic landscape.All
tracks are structured in a way that they can be mixed one with another an
endless amount of times making a continuous loop, a trip, that needs only end
when the party stops. Kraviz works without release dates or deadlines,
enabling her to achieve a certain sound bank to shape the story, unmasking
the thoughts and unravelling like a dream. A1. Roma Zuckerman - Sleep Not
found (North Edit) Apart form the fact that he leaves in Krasnoyarsk in the
middle of Russia, very little is known about Roma (short version of the name
Roman). But listening to his music and engaging in random short conversations
late at night makes it clear that there are really a lot of things going on
Romas mind... Minimalistic yet emotionally complex, his music always stands
out with it?s murkiness and signature moodiness that Roma creates like nobody
else. A2. Deniro - G Deniro continues the record's journey with his new live
cut that like pretty much everything he did so far is a beautiful sparse
atmospheric groover. He says he wanted it to be angry and it its done with
triggering synths from the tr909 and tr808. B1. Maayan Nidam - Infinite
Rattle Maayan was born in Tel-Aviv. She does not like computers and prefers
to record her music live using hardware only. In order to do so she built her
incredible studio in Berlin where she recorded 'Infinite Rattle'.There is

New
York, early 90's, the haydays of the New York and Jersey clubhouse! With
labels such as NuGroove, Nervous, Freeze, Strictly Rhythm, Henry Street Music
taking all the spot light, there is Jovonn working on a small but sensational
catalogue of music that somehow gets overshadowed by the popular releases on
the mentioned labels. The honest productions, jazzy melodies and playful
vocals (rooted in gospel) were taking things into a more musical, more
spiritual way, lacking gimmicks or dispensable samples. For the real diggers,
the true lovers of House music Jovonn always was a name to watch, a producer
of some of their favorite NY house tracks, tracks that have a raw edge
combined with a sincere human touch and pure underground house vibes. People
such as Rex resident Dj Deep was a huge fan, and also collaborated on couple
later productions with Jovonn. Slowly he started getting recognition from
europe which resulted in a handfull of records on European labels such as
Distance, Coco Soul and Estereo. Now after almost 25 years since his first
release the man's small discography on his own Goldtone label and Emotive
records stand out with his unique musical personality. More then 20 years
after their original release dates these tunes are still very relevant and
stand for many things we love about house music! We are happy to offer this
