This 7-inch record contains two
audio adaptations by Josie Perry of her performances 'Retainers' and 'Toy
Shop'. Josie is based in Glasgow and works mainly between drawing, sculpture,
performance and publishing. The performances connected to this vinyl were
part of a series made between 2019-20 involving absurd narration, audio loops
and suggestive props. 'Beautifully Formed' is a short extract from the longer
piece 'Retainers', while 'Toy Shop' uses the full transcript. Both works
relate to her interests in materialities of spoken language and alienated
voicing, and her background in vocal performance |

ANXIETY have achieved quite a reputation locally thru their stage presence. A
fully formed band which radiates personality from the very first play and is
not afraid to look at hardcore punk from outside the box. This their first
release sees the band delivering nine tracks of discordant hardcore with
layers and layers of distortion and vocal effects in barely 20 minutes. The
entire atmosphere of the record is hectic and oppressive with quite
existential lyrics creating an overall feeling of uneasiness and internal
confrontation pivotal to understand the band.The record comes housed in a
reverse board sleeve with 12 page booklet art/work by guitarist Sebastian

dealing with fears and doubts in a musical way those points can be managed
and reflected. It offers the possibility to get an altered understandig of
reality, a postitive curiosity to discover it with a different view and to
create a hopeful encounter with the world in general. Ivory Clay's album
,Doubt" sees itself as an avant/garde attempt which is influenced by an
intense examination of a zeitgeist that is deeply affected by uncertainty and
fear of future. As musicians Ivory Clay feel themselves demanded to face
difficult social challenges and to rehabilitate them with their own means. As
the musical equivalent to that idea the focus of the album production was set
on the sound quality which is supposed to create an intense feeling of authenticity.
Humanity as the basis is supposed to find its place also in the sound of the
record and an unreal, up/polished production is strictly avoided.
Defectiveness and doubt are given to the listener in complete awarness. Due
to that Ivory Clay took care of complex microphony and tried to capture all
instruments with all of their characteristics. For example the recording of a
real string quartet, a church organ, a piano, a Fender/Rhodes, a saxophone
and an african choir consisting of singers of the New Life Church in

By
the mid 1970's in Nigeria, the Biafran War was a distant memory and the music
scene in the eastern city of Aba was booming again. Bands like The Funkees,
The Wings and The Apostles grabbed the headlines, but the more interesting
stuff was coming from smaller groups like the Friimen. The Friimen, or the
Friimen Muzik Company to use their official name, were influenced as much by
pre-Saturday Night Fever Bee Gees as Jimi Hendrix and James Brown. In Beni
Tudumey they had the best keyboardist in the city, and in Dan Igbaji, Charlie
Eze and Ken Okogbue its tightest rhythm section. Throw in Gbemi Saka Toju
channeling his inner Barry Gibb and you had a band quite unlike any other in
the country. The result is We Can Get it On, a hybrid of West Coast ballads
and dancefloor chuggers. One moment they are thanking God for making the
mountains ('The Creator'), the next salaciously suggesting it's time to make
the mountains move ('We Can Get It On'). Some of the songs simply state the
obvious ('Music Makes You Move'.) However, it's the track, 'Salt Sweet
Style', that sums up the Friimen best: We have the salt. We have the sweet.
We have the style.' It's all present and accounted for on We Can Get It On |

He
was Nigerian guitar God, famous for his incendiary lead breaks with Aktion
and Monomono. She was one of Nigeria's first female band leader who went off
to the US and became a big deal in the New Jazz scene there. It should be no
surprise then that when Jimi Lee and Monah Finnih got together in 1980 for A
Stroll In The Moonlight, an Afro Jazz cosmic funk masterpiece was born.
Intricately arranged, beautifully produced and showcasing musicianship of the
highest order, A Stroll In The Moonlight was a notch above anything else that
was coming out of Nigeria at the time. I Love Myself' is the perfect amalgam
of a tight, horn-driven Lagos groove and an American New Jazz sheen. People
of the World' is pure Afro Funk, brightened by Jimi Lee's sunny, twangy guitar.
Son of A Man' brings reggae to the table and Iya Alakara' is a Lijadu Sisters
style cosmic paean to beefcakes and plantains. Taking a stroll with Nigerian
music's oddest couple is a slinky, funky affair that comes highly
recommended, but be warned: You'll work up a sweat |

much-acclaimed Vol. 1 – exploring the many styles that came out of Cuba in
the 1970s as Latin and Salsa mixed with heavy doses of Jazz, Funk, and Disco
to create some of the most dancefloor-friendly music ever made! The album
comes as a heavyweight 3xLP and deluxe 2xCD set, complete with extensive
sleeve notes, and is jam-packed with heavy bass lines, synth and Wah-Wah
guitar funk combined with the heavyweight percussion, powerful brass lines
and the all-encompassing Latin rhythms of Cuban music known throughout the
world. Much of the music on this album is featured in the deluxe large format
book ‘Cuba: Music and Revolution: Original Cover Art of Cuban Music: Record
Sleeve Designs of Revolutionary Cuba 1959-90’, released by Soul Jazz Books

Gilles Peterson and Stuart Baker have been involved in Cuban music for more
than two decades – Gilles Peterson with his many Havana Cultura projects for
his Brownswood label and Stuart Baker with a number of Soul Jazz Records

Kerrie
makes her Blueprint debut with the 'Raw Regimen' EP. Originating from
Ireland, Kerrie made a move to the UK in 2010 settling in Manchester. She
soon joined Eastern Bloc Records, spending her time behind the counter
selling records before moving into the role of events coordinator in 2017.
Honing her DJ skills through a residency at Eastern Bloc, Kerrie has gone on
to be a regularly booked act for some of the UK & Ireland's most
prestigious underground club nights and recently made her Berlin and NYC
debuts. After a few of years of producing in the box Kerrie made a move to a
hardware-only set-up in 2014 and since then has also taken her analogue live
shows on the road to various events and festivals including Freerotation and

Best
known as the keyboardist and bandleader of legendary trio Azymuth, the late
José Roberto Bertrami also wrote for, arranged for and performed with Elis
Regina, George Duke, Sarah Vaughn, Jorge Ben, Eddie Palmieri, Milton
Nascimento, Flora Purim and Erasmo Carlos, among countless others. But before
all of that, in 1965, at the age of just nineteen, Zé Roberto recorded his
first studio album with his group Os Tatuís, and the José Roberto Trio in the
following year. These largely slept-on albums of beautiful, expressive samba
jazz and bossa nova stand as a testament to the prodigious genius of one of
the most important musicians in Brazil’s history. Born in 1946 in Tatuí - a
small city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, José Roberto was the eldest of
seven children, four of whom became musicians. His father Lázaro was a
classical violinist and a professor at Tatuí’s public conservatory, the
largest music school in Latin America - for which the city is nicknamed
"Music City". After two years of piano lessons from the age of
seven, Bertrami began losing interest, spending more time playing football
and what he himself referred to as “professional vagabondage”. At thirteen,
as his mother was despairing that her son was going off the rails, Zé Roberto
enrolled at the conservatory. “In my two years there, I did seven years’ work
and then I was expelled. The conservatory was almost entirely a classical
music situation, and I’d begun to break some rules—like holding a jam session
at school.” Having discovered Bill Evans and Miles Davis in his early teenage
years, Betrami began to channel his passion and exceptional musical talent
into jazz rather than classical music. The bossa nova sound was also gaining
popularity and Bertrami became especially interested in the music of Luiz Eça
and Tamba Trio. In his late teens, and around the same time as he was
regularly sneaking off to São Paulo by train to perform in nightclubs, Zé
Roberto, alongside his brother Claudio (a successful musician in his own
right, who would go on to play on seminal albums by Gal Costa, Tom Zé, Edu
Lobo and João Bosco) and other musicians from Tatuí’s emerging jazz and bossa
nova scene, recorded the first album under the group name Os Tatuís. The
self-titled LP featured Zé Roberto on piano, Claudio on double bass, a horn
section and an organist. With compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Roberto
Menescal, Carlos Lyra, Durval Ferreira and Adilson Godoy, the album also
featured Bertrami’s own composition “A Bossa do Zé Roberto”, a mesmerising
piece of bossa jazz, which proved that already - even as a teenager -

is Lost Soul Enterprises big 15th release on wax, a tidy compilation of
off-kilter dance floor cuts and misfit synthpunk anthems. Side A commences
with the gothic, neon-soaked Miami bass of ALONZO's "Cruising with
Pap," featuring sinister verses delivered by a shadowy syrupsipping
secret guest vocalist. Up next is bucking bronco NICK KLEIN's slow-mo
industrial headbanger "Posture Test. The sonic equivalent of a
sweat-soaked concrete floor, it lurches along at its own mechanical pace amid
the metallic hiss and howl. Lastly, wild synth lines and ethereal dubbed-out
samples dart in and out over a tough, punchy rhythmic foundation in NAEEM's
"TLX," an android's sci-fi electro vision gone haywire. On the B
side, HEIDI SABERTOOTH's "Was It You" launches us deep into
chugging acidic territory, combining enigmatic spoken vocals and a
psychedelic, slowly evolving SH-101 line over a persuasive groove. Like a
slap in the face after that comes raucous synth-punk powerhouse SSPS with
"Paradise Lozt," raw as fuck, chanting a litany of dystopian tales
atop pumping drums and a wash of demented organ-like synth stabs. Finally we
close with the short but powerful "New Vape City" by the nomadic
DOUCE ANGOISSE - an absolute earworm, a doleful coldwave ballad whose lush
production plays perfect counterpoint to the icy, deadpan sentiments within.

several installments of the legendary library series 'A Special Radio ~ TV
Record' on vinyl. These were originally released on Belgian imprint
'Selection Records' between 1975 and 1981. N°15 in the series was the Belgian
milestone jazz album 'Solis Lacus' released in 1975. Solis Lacus is the cult
group around renowned Belgian pianist Michel Herr, a pioneer of electric jazz
in the 70's in Europe. Michel Herr rose to international prominence after
winning the first prize at the jazz festival in Loosdrecht, The Netherlands,
in 1971. He accompanied many European and American jazz stars on foreign tours
and ran the group Jazztrack with saxophone player Wolfgang Engstfeld in
Germany. At the same time, he set up his own band Solis Lacus, which
consisted of Belgian musicians who had all made a name for themselves on the
national jazz scene of the 1960s including Richard Rousselet and Bruno
Castelluci both from Placebo. Inspired by the reigning jazz-rock sound of the
day, Herr expanded his musical vocabulary and started to play electronic
keyboards. Solis Lacus recorded its only album in the course of 1974 and
1975, before the members of the group headed in their own direction. Solis
Lacus is considered the European counterpart to sound experimentations of
Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, or the best albums of the CTI label such as

n'est pas un corona album. 'It started out as a continuation of my previous
ep. Soft sounds, subtlety, pretty songs. And then it turned out a whole
different kind of beast', says Jan Verstraeten, of his new album Violent
Disco. 'Because of the pandemic the whole damn world started to go quiet. So
I wanted the complete opposite of that'. Back in 2019, when Verstraeten's
debut ep was released, the six songs on Cheap Dreams were created as a
counterweight for the punk scene he was coming from. 'It was made on a small
budget, in a small room, on a small laptop. My whole existence at that point
just felt very small'. But Violent Disco doesn't feel small. It's an album of
bold melodies and arrangements, big sounds, and lean, in your face swagger.
Hence the title. 'When bars closed and night life came to a standstill
because of corona, it made me think of the silent disco concept', explains
Jan. 'A party where everyone is wearing headphones, and basically in his own
bubble. Very quiet, well behaved, very 'safe'. The opposite of what partying
should be. So who would be waiting for a collection of intimate, quiet,
sit-at-home songs, when all the lockdowns are over? No one. Not me, that's
for sure! So I decided go for something abundant instead of constrained. Just
plenty of everything, and a bit messy'. For his take on a party album,
Verstraeten picked up influences left and right. 'I watched every mafia movie
on Netflix, that's where the soul influences come from. I had a bit of a
triphop moment, and I took the beats and Portishead-like strings from there.
There's even some Moby in there, somewhere, much to the chagrin of my
girlfriend!'. As depicted in the music video for first single Gone Gone Gone,
Verstraeten wanted the music to be a trip. A playground. A colourful collage,
something that doesn't go from A to B in a straight line, musically or
lyrically. 'There's chaos in everything I do', he says. 'I'm a visual artist
at heart, who almost feels like a tourist among other musicians. A director
or a painter, lost in the world of music. But that's what I love: to step
into new worlds ingenuously and explore'. Verstraeten streamlined and beefed
up the sound of Violent Disco together with producer Nicolas Rombouts, whom
he admired since his time in Dez Mona. 'We kept the raw spirit and energy of
the demos, but Nicolas provided the finishing touch. He brought unity into
the chaos'. It's been a quite a ride, he says. Not because of corona, the
lockdowns, or not being able to play and interact with an audience. 'For me,
the pandemic meant more time to focus on the album, the artwork, the video's.
Seriously, it feels like I've been on a tour around the world. I could
actually use some rest now' |

Brabant (NL), high school friends and long term collaborators Klont and
Whistle aka Wessel and Luuk join forces once again. Growing up a mere few
towns away from each other and even appearing in the same punk band albeit at

steam-fueled engines, "Bomber Jacket" takes a confident, industrial
maneuver at demonstrating nasty, scattered pieces of percussive grit,
simmering its way to a textured and refined amalgam of rough and frantic

voyage to outer space: fresh and squelchy electro patterns kick in right away

Techno Label INHERIT. After dropping the first Inherit selection IHT S01 back
in May 2021 with tracks by Bacch, Geerson, CLTX and many others we are more
than happy to announce that this remarkable journey continues - not only with
two more original tracks by the co-founders of Inherit, Daniel Heinrich &
Disguised, but rather with two exceptional remixed bangers by Hadone &
Hioll on IHT 003. "Rush to Riot" is definitely one of the most
ambitious & remarkable tracks ever published on INHERIT so far. The
noteworthy collaboration between the co-founders Disguised & Daniel
Heinrich brings together what belongs together: trancey basslines and melodic
vibrant tunes captivating you on every dancefloor around the world. Hadone is
one of the most exciting Techno artists from France these days and without
any doubt his remix of Rush to Riot adds an unique & outstanding layer to
IHT 003. His well-known evocative melodies propped up on pounding kicks unite
with a more forward-driven interpretation of the original track that brings
so much energy to the EP. "Against the Current" is the 2nd original
track on IHT 003 by cofounder Daniel Heinrich with a remix by Hioll, one of
the rising stars within the Cuban electronic music scene. While the original
track with the progressive baseline by Daniel Heinrich sounds like a famous
club banger already Hioll created with his remix a new and distinctive sound,
hypnotic techno supported by industrial elements lifting the original track

and raised in Detroit but now residing in London, Demi Riquisimo is building
a dedicated following and catching the eye of many big-name tastemakers. His
distinctive sound, an eclectic beast of acid, disco and italo influence, has
gained him wide acclaim across several releases on his own Semi Delicious
label. Divine Reality EP is Riquisimo's first outing with Shall Not Fade, on
the established Lost Palms series. It's a headsy affair, opening up with the
title track and its driving beat, which pairs well with the blissed out and
glimmering pads. You can feel the disco influence on "Local Chain",
all subtle strings and pops of guitar over the muted house rhythm that gets
feet moving. High-octane B1 "This is The Limit" is an acid roller
with clever use of diva vocal samples, maximalist and infectious. The EP
closes on "Green Machine", a percussive track that lifts from sound
palettes of the 1980s in dramatic and melancholic synth melodies that are

The
Swiss trio THE JACKETS around the charismatic singer and guitarist Jackie
Brutsche, whose strong vocals are equally seductive and piercing, has become
a talking point through their wild and stylish Live-Shows all over Europe
among other things. The band was founded by songwriter-team Jackie Brutsche
and Chris Rosales in 2007 and all three bandmembers can be more than proud of

their first outing of the year, Accidental Meetings deliver the goods once
again. This time calling upon Baroque Sunburst's co-founder, Soreab. He's
served up three contrasting club tools and finishes it off with a low-slung,
bass-heavy drifter. It's a deeper look into Soreab's repertoire and one we
have not seen yet, the release demonstrates his multiple styles with Soreab
effortlessly weaving between tempos and tones. The record starts with Drunken
Ballad, clocking in close to 100bpm with a mutant dembow beat, its rattling
percs switching up the techno/dancehall crossover with some squelchy sound
design added in for good measure. Maranza Percussion Ensemble takes it up a
notch, with dubbed-out rhythmic percussion the theme and a surging sub throughout.
Smidges of eerie echos and delayed vocals sprinkled from open to close. The B
side takes another turn, with Done Everything getting flipped on its head by
the MC, Logan. Maximum energy on all accounts with Soreab at the controls
throughout. The Sphere closes out this slab of wax, low-slung and moody. A
pulsating beat from the start, matched with ghostly drones & sirens. A
perfect close to a contrasting and diverse release |

For
the artist Dominik Eulberg, nature has always been a source of inspiration, a
place of strength and retreat. Since the beginning of his now 28-year career,
he has paid homage to it in his works, using all the stages offered to him to
celebrate its beauty and diversity.
Now the studied conservationist is releasing his sixth album:
Avichrom. This artificial word means "bird colours". For this album
Eulberg dedicates himself to the colours in the plumage of birds, eleven of
whose exuberant variety have made it into the German names of native bird
species, from Grünfink (Green Finch), Goldregenpfeifer (Golden Plover) and
Blaumeise (Blue Tit) to Purpurreiher (Purple Heron) and Schwarzhalstaucher
(Black-necked Grebe). They serve as guides on his musical expedition into
ornithology. "In the end, making music is nothing more than selecting
from an infinite number of options," he says, "and in this respect
the birds helped me find a common thread in the midst of all these
possibilities. The sketches for the songs were created during two intensive
weeks in the Corona-Lockdown winter and were elaborated, arranged and mixed
by him in the months that followed. Eulberg used the enforced break from
performing at festivals and in clubs to fervently hone the details. The
result is Avichrom, an album that is touching the very first time you listen
to it, yet reveals new details every time you listen to it again. Similar to
a walk through nature, ever new structures, ever different elaborate
ramifications reveal themselves to those who listen carefully: only with time
does the true beauty, the sublime complexity reveal itself. A colourful,
life-affirming album that takes you on a long journey, where you don't talk
much, but let yourself be touched by what you encounter |

Ian
Pooley returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids with Studio A Pt. 2 this February. The
second entry in a three-part series of music based around his studio, Ian
Pooley’s ‘Studio A Pt. 2’ for Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint sees the bonafide
house legend deliver another choice selection of grooving hardware
productions. Leading the A-side is the fluttering synths and warped vocal
samples of ‘JV Organ & Matrix’, which twists and turns through delightful
FX and rumbling bass. ‘Version 2’ of the track follows, contorting elements
of the original into a heads-down groover, with washed-out processing and
stereo wizardry meeting classic dub techniques. On the flip, ‘Back Up’ keeps
it live and direct with hard-hitting, chunky drums and menacing acid lines,
with an additional stripped back digital ‘Beats Bass’ version included.
Rounding out the 12” is 101202, a dreamy slice of razor-sharp house, with
gorgeous, filtered pads drifting in tandem with strung out low end and skippy
percussion. Active since the early 90s, the German DJ/producer has released
on the likes of Force Inc, V2 Records, and his own Pooledmusic, remixing for
the likes of Deee-Lite, Carl Cox and many more, as well as being one of the
few to be remixed by Daft Punk |

Luca Lozano and Phran's 'Dos
Ritmos' project released its first record back in 2018, the Antropophony EP
was a result of the duo's shared appreciation for heavy percussion and
worldly drums, sampled and mashed together to create a pan-national

repress - At only 19 years old, French producer THEOS says that last year he
decided to dedicate his life to music. Now he has scored his first vinyl EP,
continuing Shall Not Fade's new Killer Cuts series that focuses on no-filler
dancefloor oriented house music. There's more than a touch of French to the
funky groove of We Miss The Crowd, featuring collabs from Denyl Brook,
Cosmonection and Romeo Louisa. Opening out the record, "Lie
Machine" is a delicious warm-up for what is to come. The unstoppable
bassline and disco guitar samples get your hips moving while vocal snatches
get into your head and won't get out. The title track's sultry groove is
similarly catchy, with the pulsing kick and deep bass melody evoking a nod to
the deep tech sound of UK house music but panning synths adding that filter
house edge, sweeping the listener on to "Keep Creating Your World".
The hard pulse of this track is balanced with sweeping pads, ethereal and
summery. Organic jazzy piano loops take centre stage in the sublime
production. Onto the B-side and three stellar collaborations with some more
of the best France has to offer; "Jazzy Cruise" with Denyl Brook is
skippy, upbeat day party gear, with classic noughties filter sounds that
tease the ears. THEOS and Cosmonection work together on "Unusual
Ego"; sweet fuzzy chords but an Ed Banger style melody keep the record
pumping for the closer, "Spread Positivity" with Romeo Louisa. Cool
and dance floor ready, the climax of the EP is full of nothing but good

Lorca
joins the Shall Not Fade family with a debut LP consisting of 8 melodic
tracks with richly-layered soundscapes made up of samples and field
recordings taken from his hometown, Brighton. His first full-length album as
Lorca, the Saudade LP sees Sam Cassman return to a melancholic and
experimental sound for which he originally made a name for himself since his
first release in 2012. The album's title, written in Portuguese - the
language native to his current residence, Madeira - translates to English as
"a feeling of longing, melancholy, or nostalgia". With
stripped-back percussion and plaintive atmospherics, it's clear to see why.
We are soothed into things with the soft melody of "Lullabies"
before being transported to Brighton Beach via field recordings of seagulls
and the whisper of pebbles on the second track. The driving pulse of deep
house track "Are You Gonna Love Me" picks up the pace whilst
maintaining a sense of minimalism before the shimmering lull of "Two
Pianos" brings things right back with formless sonic collages and
drifting atmospherics. Flip the record over and the rolling beats are back.
"Colraine" and "uTube" see the return of clever use of
sampling, the latter including mobile phone recordings of live piano playing
by friends, sampled from social media. "Colraine" offers up
pulsating jazz rhythms, oozing with groove, before the aptly-named
"Polly" ushers in a change of course with a razor-sharp
polyrhythmic melody and acid undertones which are more suited to the club. On
"Rock Paper", it's sound design that takes centre stage. To close
the LP, Lorca manipulates field recordings taken from inside his studio to
incorporate abstract, sample-based percussion, making for a truly unique take
on techno and synthesis. The Saudade LP drops 4th March 2022 via Shall Not

purveyor of all things Deep House, and BBW001 is a Various Artists EP with
individual tracks from four excellent artists. The idea is to showcase the various
styles the label will put out with future releases. Up first is Entrepot head
honcho UC Beatz with “Dullness” which portrays a classic deep house sound,
with a modern twist. Former Ruff Stuff member Flaze offers “Forty” that
simply destroys dancefloors with an almost Techno feel. Fresh from recent

Mastra, Sirion Records' long-time
friend and at the same time Bernese veteran when it comes to electronic music
in all its facets, is launching an extensive oeuvre which builds up as three
independent EP's and culminates in an album. It forms a fusion between visual
art in the form of cover artwork and musical creation. Mastra and the visual
artist Johannes Luna had this fusion planned quite some time, but it took a
clandestine meeting in a pub to seal the deal. They philosophized extensively
about the connection between visual art and music. It is the abstraction in
Mastra's music that inspired Johannes and ultimately flowed into his art to
make this complete work possible. Musically, this project moves in deep and
techhouse realms with influences from the genres of Dub, Funk and Soul,
paired with the usual light-footedness from Mastra's production pool.

On
September 11 th , Bristolian futurist Krust presents ‘Constructive Ambiguity’
– the first single taken from his first album in 14 years – 'The Edge Of
Everything', plus an exclusive B-side called 'Tree of Life', released via
Crosstown Rebels. A strong opening gambit ahead of the forthcoming long
player, both tracks on the single appear as if beamed-in from the edge of the
universe, way beyond the precipice in a metaphysical netherworld. With
disregard for structure tropes, ‘Constructive Ambiguity’ is an engrossing and
unpredictable speed through various atmospheres and environments that belies
its 12-minute length. A careering space-shuttle-bassline bounces through an
asteroid shower at high velocity, slowing at intervals when the cosmos
becomes clear, before the next onslaught. ‘Tree Of Life’ harnesses the power
of repetition with an incessant militant beat, which eventually leads into a
formidably musical passage of dark, ominously beautiful cinematic ambience
that evokes the profound unknown. It’s clear this pre-eminent electronic icon
who constantly and integrally blew minds throughout the 90s and 00s is on his
best ever form, having explored radical new philosophical, mental and
creative processes to return revitalised. Both the album and single stand-out
from the crowd, located above-and-beyond standard floor- focussed confines.
Krust’s music is more individualistic; closer to the vivid brushstrokes of a
fauvist painting, and less like a diagram on a grid. The sound is
unmistakably Krust, but now wider, deeper, freer, more intense and more
fully-realised. If past anthems like ‘Warhead’ and ‘Soul In Motion’ gave you
a peek through the creator’s doors of perception, here they are flung wide
open, pulling you across into awe-inspiring new worlds. Keen to seek new
paths and subvert the norm, Krust opted to release via Crosstown Rebels
following the fervid advances of Damian Lazarus. The pair have a longstanding
history, which began when the label owner played drum & bass in his

right - 'Izmo' aka Brawther dropped the now classic 'Where Is Eddie?' EP on
French label 9Ts, showcasing his deft ability to channel the best and deepest
parts of house that we all love into something exciting and fresh. Definitely
a signifier of what was to come, this 3 tracker became somewhat infamous,
highly collectible and sought after by house diggers around the world.
Brawther wasn't afraid to show his influences and his inspirations with the
lead cut 'Where Is Eddie?', an open verbal letter if you will, to NJ producer
Eddie Perez of Smack productions and too-many-to-name underground house
classics asking him to bring back the realness! A monstrously heavy swinging
piece of late night house action right here. 'Blue Light' is more of the
same, filtered, skipping drums and uplifting chords build into a jamming
synth flute garage jammer that wouldn't be out of place on a vintage
Nu-Groove / Burrell 12". 'What's Izmo' rounds out the EP, this one's got
some ridiculous funked out bassline and spoken words that intertwine with
some glacial vibes and synths, driving us into the night sky while reminding
us what this house music stuff is really all about. A truly essential record
this, and this repress has been a long time coming! The 'Where Is Eddie?' EP
has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Izmo /
Brawther and was remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original DAT's

Originally
released in 2013, ‘Virtual Lover’ was the debut single from Nadia Ksaiba, the
East London DJ icon best known for her joyous sets at beloved queer space
Dalston Superstore. Fast-forward to 2020, and Ksaiba’s ‘Rhythm Connection’
with Dan Beaumont, is one of NTS Radio’s longest running shows. Meanwhile, as
Phantasy approaches a landmark 100 singles, ‘Virtual Lover’ still sounds
timeless, masterfully channeling boogie, Italo and disco reminiscent of early
Madonna to classic Midnight Star. With this in mind, Phantasy are delighted
to offer a new perspective on Ksaiba’s club hit with two spellbinding edits
from Belfast born and based DJ/producer, Jordan. On PH28RMX, Jordan refreshes
the energy of ‘Virtual Lover’ with two additions to his already beloved
series of Nocturne edits, which have earned multiple represses having gained
huge support from the likes of Erol Alkan, Midland, Gerd Janson and Kornel
Kovacs. With an analogue touch, Jordan deftly shifts the casual call of the
original into a lean slice of brooding freestyle electro, transforming
Ksaiba’s charming vocals into a robotic paen, yearning across a futuristic

On
a balmy Brazilian night in February, 1981, a crowd gathered in Rio de
Janeiro's Gávea neighbourhood under the iconic dome of the city's Planetário
(Planetarium). Alongside musicians like Helio Delmiro and Milton Nascimento
(who were in the audience that night), they were there to see the great
"Bruxo" (sorcerer) Hermeto Pascoal live in concert, with his new
band formation which would become known simply as "O Grupo" (The
Group). Growing up on a farm in Brazil's northeastern state of Alagoas,
Hermeto has always been deeply in tune with, and inspired by nature. In his
youth he would make his own flutes to play call and response with the birds
and frogs. He would build scrap-metal instruments in his blacksmith
grandfather's forge, and sit for hours by the lake listening to the sounds of
nature. On the Planetário Da Gávea recordings though, Hermeto is cast as the
"sorcerer" or the "cosmic emissary" (as the great
Brazilian guitarist Guinga once called him), exhibiting an intuitive sense of
harmony and melody beyond that of our own world. "Tudo e Som" (All
is Sound). It's a phrase Hermeto regularly returns to, and it points to the
fact that not only can music be made from anything, but also alludes to something
much more profound. It's an understanding of the universe as being in a state
of constant movement, forever vibrating at the quantum level, like the string
of a guitar, or a saxophone's reed. "Tudo e Som" is a declaration
of the mystical and spiritual power of sound, as a fundamentally vibrational
force. The series of concerts at the Planetário marked the birth of "O
Grupo" which would last with the same line-up (apart from Zé Eduardo
Nazário) for the next eleven years. Every member of O Grupo was a phenomenal
musician in their own right. It was one of saxophonist/flautist Carlos
Malta's first gigs with the group, and the concert unusually featured two
drummers, Zé Eduardo Nazário and Marcio Bahia. Nazário, from São Paulo, had
played with Hermeto during the mid-70s (as well as with Milton Nascimento,
Egberto Gismonti and Toninho Horta, to name a few). Bahia though had just
joined the group. Acclaimed keyboard player Jovino Santos Neto was on
keyboards, piano and organ, and the great Itiberê Zwarg (who remains in
Hermeto's band to this day), played bass. Rounding the group off was the
percussionist Pernambuco. During this period (up until the early 90s) the
group would rehearse for hours on end, virtually seven days a week, with a
total dedication to music and Hermeto's musical vision. Most of the
compositions performed that night at the Planetário had never been recorded
before, and many are unique to this album, including the wild 'Homônimo
Sintróvio', the exaltant 'Samba Do Belaqua', 'Vou Pra Lá e Pra Cá' and
'Bombardino', which features Hermeto's wonderfully absurd call and response
mouthpiece soliloquy |
