remain committed to it, but with insatiable ambition, Berlin's BOYS NOIZE
turned principled dedication into an outsize presence among 21st century DJs
and electronic musicians. A career punctuated by audacious cross-genre
exploration has earned him an enviable fluidity of practice across borders
and scenes, yet his definitive fingerprints are present on every creation. An
underground hero with mainstream appeal and acid-dripped, techno-punk
sensibilities, he jumpstarts crowds from Berghain to Coachella. In 2021, BOYS
NOIZE’s fascination with traversing dualities hits a new apex on his fifth
studio album +/- (pronounced Polarity) “The album dives into the polar
tension between the musical styles and worlds I find myself in,” says BOYS
NOIZE. “When you combine opposites, something transcendent can take place,
something greater than the two parts.And with music, it becomes a magic that
can create new worlds.” The German-Iraqi producer and DJ (born Alex Ridha)
never thought much of rules or restraints. His 2007 debut album Oi Oi
Oikicked down the door to the music industry, brashly refracting a record collector’s
deep knowledge of industrial, house, and techno through a prism of raucous
energy and raw production in defiance of the aging dance music
establishment’s genre conventions. Self-releasing the LP on his own label,
Ridha and Boysnoize Records (BNR) became a gravitational force for an
international subculture of new sounds and attitudes sparking fires across
clubland. BOYS NOIZE ´s reputation had grown among the fashionable favorites
of the indie revival, who sought to bolster their bands’ singles with his
rapturous re-edits that fused guitars and synthesizers. With deft mixing,
singular taste, and a prowess for connecting rockers and ravers on the
dancefloor, the prodigious DJ began playing hundreds of shows spanning a
multitude of countries near and far. A tipping point was reached, however,
after BOYS NOIZE dropped his intoxicating, anthemic remix of FEIST’s “My Moon
My Man,” which buzzed with the start of festival season before soaring to new
heights as an inescapable viral hit. The field was now wide open for Berlin’s
iconoclastic originator, with every head turning to see what he’d bring next
While some would temper their edge after finding crossover success, BOYS
NOIZEleaned harder into his unorthodox blending of rave and punk, indie and
industrial. Reflecting this eclecticism, his next LP, Power, earned him even
greater global attention and energized a growing fanbase. Out of the
Blackbroadened the scope of his potential, proving, with “Got It,” that even
SNOOP DOGGhas a place in BOYS NOIZE ´selectric universe. Both technically
masterful and enthrallingly anarchic, 2016’s Maydaydelivered a cinematic
soundtrack of synergistic songcraft, rushing forth on a dark wave of
industrial rave. Even with his relentless experimentation, BOYS NOIZEremains
devoted to Berlin’s electronic music foundations, and Strictly Raw Volumes 1
and2serve as a “no talk, all action” flex of techno-essentialist finesse.He
also remains resolutely independent, releasing all of his albums—including
+/-—on his own BNRimprint, which celebrates its 16th year in 2021. One outlet
is not enough, however, for BOYS NOIZE ´s perpetual flood of ideas and
unstoppable productivity, and so numerous collaborative, pseudonymous, and
anonymous side projects have offered new territories for creative freedom. As
OCTAVE MINDS, he exchanges timbre and melody with maestro pianist CHILLY
GONZALES. Handbraekes’ unhinged, avant-garde disco is the brainchild of BOYS
NOIZE and surrealist polymath MR. OIZO. And reaching out across the Atlantic,
a friendship with SKRILLEX brings DOG BLOOD, an overpowered meeting of minds

Originally
the flip of ‘You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks’ from April 1971, this is
funk rock at its finest. It first appeared in a different version on the
“Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow” LP, but here we have the single
version. And on the B-side of this release, we debut a previously unheard
backing track. With lyrics by Ray Davis allegedly written about his bandmates
fried on drugs, and the need for those dollar bills for that and indeed a
whole list of things that the mighty dollar buys, the song condemns the
malign influence that it brings to bear on life. Billy Nelson rips through
the vocal as apparently the most ripped member of the band. Underpinning the
whole thing is Eddie Hazel’s wah-wah wild guitar and Tawl Ross’ answering
riff that echoes Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’ as much as that song
echoed the Small Faces’ ‘You Need Loving’, itself fairly closely related to
Willie Dixon’s ‘You Need Love’, as performed by Muddy Waters, and so the
vernacular tradition goes on. Indeed, said vernacular tradition is thoroughly
reworked in Bernie Worrell’s deconstruction of barrelhouse piano with the
right notes, but not necessarily in the right order. Bernie had just joined
the band, but was obviously a fast learner. The backing track displays the

By the time The Second Album was
released in 1966, the Spencer Davis Group had exploded onto the British music
scene thanks in no small part to the incredible talent of its young organ
player and singer, a kid named Stevie Winwood who had already begun drawing
comparisons to some of the greatest R^B singers in history of music. The LP,
again produced by Chris Blackwell, included their first No. 1 hit, a version
of Jamaican singer Jackie Edwards- -Keep On Running-, which allowed the young
Stevie to finally purchase his own Hammond. Featuring 5 bonus tracks,
including their 1966 hit single, -Gimme Some Lovin- b&w -Blues In F-,

was time to act. He'd torn up the Lagos live scene with The Thermometers and

Here's
a reissue of a great Afro-funk-rock album with psychedelic leanings by a fine
Nigerian band. 'Devil Woman' was originally released by Clover Sound in 1976.
The eastern Nigerian city of Calabar in Cross River State was colloquially
known as Canaan City - a place of lush landscapes, alluring women and
delicious cooking. When the Biafra War ended it became a land of milk and
honey for bands as well, with jumping venues like the Taj Mahal and Luna Nite
Club and a label called Clover, set up local entrepreneur Ben Okonkwo,
releasing albums by bands like The Doves, The Visitors, Aktion and The
Apostles. The youngest band on the Clover roster was Mansion, a teenage
highlife group, led by singer and bassist John 'Holy Mountain' Ebiong.
Okonkwo decked them out in flares, repackaged them as a funk band and put
them in the studio with EMI super-producer, Kayode Salami. The result was
Devil Woman, an astoundingly assured funk/rock album. The title track revels
in a '60s psychedelic vibe. 'The Love Song' is a direct appeal to teenage
hearts. 'Heaven Here On Earth' has an irresistible shuffling groove while
'You Can't Stop Us' is what James Brown would have sounded like if he'd been
born in the Cross River State. Devil Woman is an album designed to set young
hearts aflutter and draw approving nods from seasoned musicians. It succeeds

Bristol punk quintet the Cortinas
began as an R^B covers band, but soon sped up their repertoire when punk
arrived, making them local pioneers. A slot supporting the Stranglers at the
Roxy brought them onto Miles Copeland and Mark Perry's Step Forward label and

Far
Out Recordings proudly presents Hermeto Pascoal’s remarkable self-titled
debut album. Recorded in 1970 at A&R studios in New York, the album
features certified North American titans including Ron Carter, Hubert Laws,
Joe Farrel and Googie Coppola, and Brazilian stars Airto Moreira and Flora
Purim (who also produced the album). While it was Hermeto’s first album
released under his own name, he had spent the decade or so prior making a
name for himself in Brazil and internationally as a composer, arranger and
instrumentalist with groups including Sambrassa Trio, Quarteto Novo and
Brazilian Octopus, before going on to work with (amongst countless others)
Edu Lobo, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Donald Byrd, Airto Moreira and Miles Davis,
who allegedly called Hermeto “one of the most important musicians on the
planet”. With Hermeto’s otherworldly orchestral arrangements, ghostly vocal
performances from Flora Purim and Googie Coppola, and the inimitable drumming
and percussion stylings of Airto Moreira, Hermeto easily rivals some of the
oft-celebrated MPB albums of the early 1970s, sitting somewhere between the
string-heavy magic of Arthur Verocai’s 1972 debut and the unplacable early
experimentalism of Pedro Santos’ 1968 album Krishnanda. With his phenomenal
natural musical genius and a ceaseless sense of creative freedom, Hermeto is
widely known for using unconventional objects to make music. In the album’s
sleeve notes, Airto highlights the track “Velório (Mourning)” explaining how
Heremto filled 36 apple juice bottles with different amounts of water and
tuned them to precise pitches in order to create the beguiling harmonies
heard. The reissue of Hermeto Pascoal’s Hermeto, follow’s Far Out’s recent
unveiling of a previously unheard Hermeto Pascoal live concert Planetario da
Gavea from 1981, and 2017’s release of Hermeto Pascoal’s lost 1976 studio
album: Viajando Com O Som. Hermeto will be available on vinyl LP and CD from

feeling in your mind. Dorian Parano - Locked Down: After years of lockdowns
and stay at home jobs, there's one sentence that nobody wants to hear
anymore, and as you may imagine reading the name of this track, French artist
Dorian Parano have is own way to cope with the pandemic. Hopefully, his

Originally
released on Impulse! in 1971, Universal Consciousness is a major turning
point in Alice Coltrane's momentous career. While her previous albums pushed
the limits of spiritual free-jazz and featured much of her late husband's
band, Universal Consciousness expands the harpist / pianist's compositional
palette with organ and strings (working with Ornette Coleman). "Oh
Allah" is the finest example of Coltrane's new direction: tense violins
dissolve into sublime organ solos and exquisite brushwork from long-time Mile
Davis collaborator Jack DeJohnette. While the title track undulates with a
fierce clamor, "Hare Krishna" showcases Coltrane's uncanny ability
for transcendent and slow-paced arrangements. In The Wire's "100 Records
That Set the World on Fire," David Toop writes, "[Universal
Consciousness] clearly connects to other dyspeptic jazz traditions-the organ
trio, the soloists with strings- yet volleys them into outer space, ancient
Egypt, the Ganges, the great beyond. The production is astounding, the
quality of improvisation is riveting, the string arrangements are apocalyptic
rather than saccharine, the balance of turbulence and calm a genuine
dialectic that later mystic / exotic post-jazz copped out of pursuing. Her
lack of constraint was dimly regarded by adherents of '70s jazz and its
masculine orthodoxies, yet Alice deserved better credit for virtuosity,
originality, and the sheer will power needed to realized her vision." |

The son of a vaudeville
entertainer, Dion DiMucci's debut 45, 'The Chosen Few,' was a local hit
backed by the maudlin Timberelanes, prompting him to form the more authentic
Belmonts with friends from his Bronx neighbourhood. Numerous hits followed,
including 'A Teenager In Love' and 'Where Or When,' and despite his heroin
addiction, solo work was even bigger, the million-seller, 'Runaround Sue,'
topping the US pop charts in late 1961, followed by signature tune 'The
Wanderer.' The resultant Runaround Sue LP is quintessential Dion, his strong
tenor tackling a range of cover tunes, as well as inspired originals like
'Lonely World,' capturing the man at his confident best, approaching his peak

Kruczynski - the sometimes-ambient producer also known by his more club-ready
moniker, Earth Trax - returns to the Shall Not Fade catalogue with his third
full-length album. The Sensual World LP draws from both the moody, industrial
soundscape of the cold wave-inspired LP1; and the warmer, more ethereal
undertones of its successor. Whilst lending stylistic aspects from both, his
latest release maintains their mercuriality and textural complexity whilst at
the same time resembling something distinctly new. This 13-tracker sees the
Warsaw producer continue to prove himself as one of the most versatile and
consistent producers in the game. Composed and produced during the 2020
pandemic, The Sensual World contemplates eco/environmental aesthetics and
recontextualizes the genres that Kruczynski took as a springboard for the
inception of his musical career. The aptly-named "Dream Pop" and
"Fireflies" use arpeggiated melodies, vocal chops and luscious pads
to capture the transportive allure by which early Earth Trax releases have
been recognised; whilst later in the record, "Pearl" and
"Splash" pair these tropes with those of industrial techno to
create two pulsating dancefloor heaters. Elsewhere, the focus is on sound
design and rhythmic complexity, with sharp, crystalline acid melodies
("Metal") and "Dreams Made Flesh's" broken drill beats
and epic synths. Whilst other tracks see Kruczynski tap into the
"bittersweet dance floor moments" for which he has become renowned
over the course of his illustrious career ("Nowhere"), The Sensual
World also offers its listeners sonic respite with some stripped-back,
down-tempo slow burners "Nowhere" and "Everlong". A
protean producer who nonetheless has succeeded in helming a truly inimitable

for those lucky enough visiting a decent import shop in that year could have
seen a US import record with pink label showing a darts board with small text
next to the picture saying "Target records" and "Joe R.
Lewis". Pretty sure nobody at that time would be alarmed by this...
reading further it said... 1. Love Of My Own... Written and produced by Joe
R. Lewis... in even smaller text the label info continued; mixed by Larry
Heard..! And even that, at that time that would not have rung a bell, except
for maybe a couple of dj's who only just in the last couple months picked up
copy of a Mr. Fingers record and memorised the writer credits. We're talking
the very early days of House music, the pre-internet era where new music and
info didn't spread all over the globe within a couple of seconds... Now more
then 30 years later this is a holy grail for worldwide record collectors and
house aficionados, and still not all info is clear. But like all good stories
there is a cloud of mystery covering up the details! On the flip side there
is one of the best tracks ever produced by Joe Lewis.., Life Immoreal... a
track so elegant and beautiful that it hurts!!! Two of the best tracks
Chicago House music has to offer in remastered versions taken from the
original master tapes on this latest outing of Clone Classic Cuts!!! |

Power Mind Control. The focus of this project and presentation examines the
art of mental persuasion and how the mind can control as well as fall
vulnerable to subservient ways. It allows the means to look creatively and
more in-depth to a subject that applies to every person and at every stage of
life because how we perceive or sense something is part of our evolutionary
survival pattern. Because there is no exact mental compatibility between any
of us, speculation and misconceptions are not exemplary so, an emphasis on
"the presentation of facts, ideas and methods and what we knew as true
by example" are the major points that drives the overall purpose of this
album project. Mainly artistic but scientifically as well, the album will explore
various techniques used to control minds, physicality of people and inanimate
objects. The objective of this project is to examine, reveal and demonstrate
how humans have created metaphysical and mind-bending techniques to control

in 1988 in Madrid and were lead by legendary Kike Turmix. During 10 years
they toured extensively across Europe and USA. Through the years, and as
shown in this recording, The Pleasure Fuckers developed a brutal assault of
high Energy punk rock with no remorse and no prisoners. Here we are for the
first time on vinyl, their álbum "fried cheese & pivo",
performance recorded in Czech Republic in 1992. It was only released on CD in
1993 and for Czech market. Newly remastered, on double gatefold Deluxe vinyl,

a great success in its first year, and now starts 2021 with the first in a
series of hand-stamped white label releases. London via Madrid up-and-comer
Tower Block Dreams makes his debut for the label with five killer cuts,
backed with a weighty remix from Manchester-based garage maestro and Time Is
Now regular Interplanetary Criminal. The A-side is all reliable garage
bangers; the opener, "Wicked Ya No" is a rude wobbler for the early
hours, with rave piano stabs and a dirty drop. Track two "Keep
Coming" loses none of the pace, chopping up playful R'n'B diva vocals to
a hard bassline; and the A-side ends with a sidewinding beast of a track in
"Soundboy". Think retro synths paired with timestretched ragga
vocals - it's unashamedly filthy. Onto the B-side with gun fingers out for
"Truss We", which plays again with ravey stabs and staccato female
vocals for an instant dancefloor banger. Tower Block Dreams' last offering on
the record is much darker; a forward stepper that cruises along at half-time,
creating an ominous atmosphere on which to lead into Interplanetary
Criminal's remix of "Wicked Ya Know". This one reimagines the
record opener in the producer's trademark high-octane style, smattering hyper
breakbeats across the track and turning up the wobble to end the record with
a stinker |

First
time release on vinyl of the breathtaking songs Patty Waters recorded with
engineer Steve Atkins in 1970 at the Coast Recordings studio, together with
the unreleased single 'My One And Only Love' and a recorded live session at Lone Mountain College in
1974. The album 'You Loved Me' is the missing link between her two
groundbreaking pioneering and highly acclaimed ESP-Disk records from the end
of the 60's and her post 90's releases. The missing link between the radical
ingenue of the 1960s and her late 90's songs wherein she expressed the
resolution of all of her life's moments through mature readings of
traditional songs and jazz standards. This collection aims to provide that
missing link and to finally complete the picture of her storied recording
career. In what would have been her third LP, the 'You Loved Me' album serves
as the inverse of Patty's debut. While her debut "Sings" concerned
itself with themes of heartbreak, loneliness and yearning, there's an
abundance of love, joy and togetherness on "You Loved Me". Or in
Patty's own words: "I was a young girl alone at age 19, I was longing
for love and dreaming of how wonderful love could be" On 'You Loved Me'
Patty Waters velvet voice captures this longing for love, straight from her
soul to your heart. Crossing the border of the avant garde jazz entering a
strange zone, somewhere between spiritual jazz, early folk vibes on the songs
on the A-sides while the 14 minute composition 'Touched By Rodin In A Paris
Museum' on the B-side is (dixit David Stubbs for Uncut in 2004) a brilliant
extended showcase for the uneasy Cageian minimalism of her piano playing.
'You Loved Me' proves also again why Albert Ayler introduced her to ESP-Disk
president Bernard Stollman, impressed Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders and Henry
Grimes with her concerts and can count Patti Smith and Yoko Ono (to name a
few) amongst her fans |

Two
and a half years after the inception of Shall Not Fade's bass-focused
sub-label, and a year since its last edition, Time Is Now is proud to present
Allstars Vol.3. For most, the artists featured on the compilation need little
introduction. This will almost certainly be true for the Leicester duo who
kick off proceedings with a fresh garage cut. "Pick Me Up" is Y U
QT's second contribution to the Time Is Now catalogue and sees them rep the
Midlands sound with their take on UKG, complete with a 4x4 speed garage
switch-up, sure to energise any dancefloor. Next up, proving that all good
things come in twos, is Manchester duo Cortese who first blessed the label
with the warmth of their tuneful concoctions in June last year. This time
around is no different: "Regatta" is a real summertime banger, with
sunny piano stabs and arpeggiating synths that drift above. Keeping things
soulful is Dublin producer PROZAK who hots things up with the buoyant 4x4
garage track "Next To You" - his third release on TIN. Yosh sees in
the compilation's B-side with "To Me" - a track that captures the
London badman's ability to keep you on your toes with stuttering breaks that
catch you off-guard. Next up, and repping Copenhagen for the third time on
the label, is Main Phase with the aptly-named "Pull Up Tool"- a
thumping 4x4 UKG track which gives a healthy dose of ruffage before Groovy D
closes proceedings with speed garage banger "Wun4Me". Set closer

Following
the unpublished works of the Ukrainian/Estonian musician Valentina
Goncharova, Volume 2 of Shukai’s archival project sits in direct contrast to
the solo works of Vol. 1. Spending her youth studying classical music first
in Kyiv and then in Leningrad, Valentina began her musical career with
rigorous compositional study and concert violin performance. This long player
of duets as such casts a light on Goncharova’s experiences with early free
jazz, democratic improvisation and introductions to pure electronic sound.
Where Vol. 1 explored her home studio experiments and flirtations with
musique concrete and new age, this volume seeks to give audience to similarly
DIY recordings developed in collaborative environments away from the
conservatoire. Properly documenting sessions revolving around smoky jazz
cafes, art galleries, salons and theatre venues across Riga and Tallinn,
these seven pieces add to the historical narrative of the soviet era
avant-garde and show the broader spectrum of Valentina’s work. We begin in
Riga with an adapted score for a delicately unfolding violin drone, voice and
saxophone performance produced by Valentina and Alexander Aksenov. Describing
the nineties as temporarily narrowing the content of cultural life and thus nullifying
the interest of free improvisation in both Tallinn and Riga, Valetina’s bond
with the multi-instrumentalist and theatre director Aksenov led to decades of
close friendship and several demo recordings such as ‘Reincarnation II’.
Their initial chance meeting at a jam session set in motion various
cross-country performances and experimental theatre works. With its focus on
extended harmony, it is perhaps ‘Reincarnation II’ that most recognisably
follows on from Shukai’s first volume. Across the rest of the disc are
collaborative duets with Sergei Letov and Pekka Airaksinan respectively, the
three tapes with Letov an example of recordings as a ‘rehearsal process’.
These evenings spent in Moscow apartments and St. Petersburg art studios
challenged Goncharova’s preconceptions of musical expression; “I was
surprised by his (Letov’s) artistic language. He composed here and now music
that was so intellectually advanced that it was quite comparable to the
compositions of my fellow students. Only, to achieve such a result, it took
months for them. So, for the first time, I took part in free jazz collective
creativity” (2020). Atypical violin/saxophone techniques and light, difficult
to place percussive textures interplay across the three duets with Letov, the
sense of spatiality alluding to the very nature of the recordings. They
strike ultimately as private, freeform experiments with sound, never intended
for the listener but documenting a practice which explores the dichotomy of
improv’s ‘non-professionalism’ and its potential freedom from trained
performance |

Golden
Gate Club Records presents the second "Golden Gate Quartett VA“. Four
different acts and a diverse collection of tracks from Minimal, Deep Tech to
Acid House. One of them, is Mothership, a collective, with Jakob
Seidensticker, Boronas and Snad, presenting their Track „Buy or Die“. A very
interesting peace of music of spacy and drifty sounds, driven by jazzy
rhythmic elements and a dubby soundscape. The Belgium producer and DJ
Jerome.c, delivers a rather dry and minimalistic track with his origin
attribute of a dominant beat, pushing you back and forth, wrapping you in a
hypnotic loop and making you shake in trance. A second collective on this
compilation is Rozin & Kahru. Rozin, better know as the experienced
producer Tyler Brunton met Kahru, a young DJ and producer from Liverpool at
the Golden Gate Club in Berlin. Both became residents at the club and
realized their common music taste, leading them to studio sessions and
resulting in some great productions. An outstanding track is given us by Tim
Etzel, a rising young talent from Mannheim. With his track „Acid Feelings“,
he is showing a fresh, joyful and contemporary interpretation of Acid, that
makes smily just going wild |

Het
afgelopen jaar schreef Willy Organ voor, na, tijdens en tussen lockdowns aan
"Laat Ze Maar Branden", een album dat wordt gekenmerkt door
incoherentie en je reinste 'goestingdoenerij': een soort donkere maar
feestelijke antithese tegen de flegmatieke quarantaine waarbinnen het is
gemaakt. Het was een tijd van neerslachtigheid, zelfreflectie, lethargie en
zelfmedicatie. Willy Organ schreef teksten over de vele verschillende
werelden waarin hij leeft. Over waarom we persé met zoveel mogelijk moeten
proberen zo lang mogelijk, zo oud mogelijk te worden op deze aardbol. Maar
ook over zijn beste vriendin, want dat mens is toch ook een wereld op
zichzelf. Hij schreef over sociologische en politieke thema's, maar ook over
datgene wat ons werkelijk drijft, een wereld die overal subliminaal aanwezig
is en zonder dewelke we een zoutloos zwart-wit bestaan zouden lijden: Seks.
In navolging van zijn debuutalbum "Jonge Plant" (2020) wou de
artiest behalve tekstueel ook muzikaal zijn blik wat afwenden van de eigen
navel en heeft hij geprobeerd meer evenredigheid te zoeken tussen de tekst en
de muziek van elk afzonderlijk nummer. 'Conceptueler', zo je wil... Er was
weinig behoefte om naar een muzikale samenhang te zoeken tussen de
verschillende tracks. Door toe te laten dat verschillende werelden ook totaal
verschillend mogen klinken, wandelt de luisteraar bij elke track een lichtjes
andere kamer binnen in het Williversum. Ook de visuele wereld rond het album
werd weer volledig uitgedacht door Willy Organ zelf en hier wordt
uitgebreider op doorgewerkt middels een expositie op het Kunstenfestival
Gebroed te Menen, alwaar Willy zich zal wagen aan een bizarre crossover
tussen muziek, installatiekunst en performance waarbij de grenzen tussen die verschillende
disciplines zullen worden afgetast |

Taken
from Kavisnky's 2013 debut album 'Outrun', 'Odd Look' EP features
contributions from A-Trak, Surkin, and the Weeknd. Have a listen to the
Weeknd's take, which features lead vocals from Abel Tesfaye. Kavinsky’s ‘Odd
look’ is one of those songs which will haunt you for a long time after
hearing them, one of Kavinsky’s acclaimed ‘Outrun’ highlights for sure. The
deep, raw and soulful instrumental brings a cinematic sound which has the
power to litterally put you in a virtual movie just listening to music ! And
SebastiAn’s vocal part on top is a unique rendering, somewhere between Stevie
Wonder and HAL. The Weeknd was invited to sing on the song by Kavinsky
himself. As a big fan of his singing skills, the zombie wanted him to give
his song the real soul touch that he’d had in mind for ages. His performance
reminds of Michael Jackson, a fast and swinging vocal line, extremely
addictive ! A-Trak who has been Kavinsky’s pal for years now delivers a
banging remix with bass & drums and a beautiful & strange vocal hook.
The kind of tune that can be played in a NYC hip hop party, as well as in a
techno warehouse in Berlin with the same effect : arms up ! A-Track rules it
as always. Midnight Juggernauts have taken the spacey-progressive path for their
approach towards ‘Odd Look’. Trancey sounds built around those Scarface-like
choirs surround you and bring you back to the early 9O’s chill out era, It’s
emotional music, as on their recently released ‘Uncanny Valley’ album. Prince
85 is the newcomer of this selection of X-tra strong producers. His new-hip
hop sound fits Kavinsky’s moods perfectly, adding a brilliant re-cut work and
some exquisite additional keyboards. Real drinving music, that’s the deal.
Surkin has the recipe for producing absolute club anthems, his re-do of
Kavinsky’s tune is one more proof of his skills. Sirens, brilliantly produced
vocal excerpts and his signature synth sounds alltogether create a happy and
hysteric mood that one could imagine create club riots ! |

For
the recording of their third album 'Het Deert', Bestiaal (Gent, BE), the trio
around drummer / composer Sebastiaan Vekeman, headed for West Flanders. This
project breathes the fresh sea air of coastal town Ostend (BE), thanks to the
recording in residence at De Grote Post, the album artwork a painting by
James Ensor), a partnership with kleinVerhaal / DRIFT label and the
collaboration with recording director Serge Feys (T.C. Matic, Arno, etc.) and
mixer Jeff Claeys (Millionaire, The Van Jets, etc.). 'With You', a song by
T.C. Matic co-written by Serge Feys, was the starting point and the major
source of inspiration for the new album. The droning, raw character of the
music heard on 'Het Deert' is reminiscent of a fierce, marching brass band in
a procession; a similar atmosphere to many of Ensor's paintings. This fanfare
is voiced by the occasion ensemble NOODDRUFT 6, led by trumpet player Bart
Maris. As the foundation of the iceberg, Bestiaal is flanked by three extra
bassists on the album. Cyrille Obermüller (double bass), Pieter Lenaerts
(double bass) and Tobe Wouters (tuba), together with Bas Gommeren (double
bass), provide a whirlwind of bass sounds and a feeling of pleasant unease.
Above all, Bestiaal is a collective that develops an authentic sound, averse
to rules, expectations and hypes. It is a sound that can lead to moments of
scorching fury, abstract exploration as well as whispered caresses. Always on
the wrong track, and back to the edge of your seat. Bestiaal's jazz can be
quite potent. Originality and willfulness have always been core values for
jazz musicians, but here they are natural components of a strikingly stubborn
character. Bestiaal's elusiveness is largely due to the compositions of
drummer Sebastiaan Vekeman, which are still anchored in the classical jazz
language, but also make a run for it. The compositions on 'Absoluut' (2016)
and 'Inenen' (2018), for example, were not classical structures with a
familiar head and a tail as an exclamation point, but a free pass to tell
stories that only follow their own, erratic logic. Just as is the case with

Making
his Time Is Now debut, Killjoy brings a kaleidoscopic EP jam-packed with UK
flavours, from 4x4 garage to UK Funky and tribal house. By no means a
newcomer to the scene, Killjoy has long been perfecting his craft. Now
residing in Sydney, he was instrumental in the rise of Nottingham's Tumble
Audio: a musical heritage easy to detect in his current productions. Building
on the stylistic tropes of bassline, UK Funky and Grime, Killjoy's sound
istruly distinct, proven by support received from the likes of Scratcha DVA,
Riz La Teef, Skream and Zomby. For proof, look no further than TINWHITE016
which showcases Killjoy's myriad artistic identity, beginning with "Roof
It (4x4 Mix)". Intervals of warmth and cool compete with each other -
each one just as danceable as the other - later seeing a flip from TIN family
member Soul Mass Transit System who captures the track's old school essence
and enhances it with korg organ stabs that dance above. A marching triplet
rhythm lends "E's Got Me" its driving propulsion: with plenty of
swing and and weighty percussion, this one evokes the music of Tribal
Brothers or Bakongo. Talking of UK Funky, "Bourbon" sees Killjoy
put his spin on the genre with a broken rhythm that comes at no cost to the
swing created by deep lower-end stabs that nod to bassline. These are then
taken and drawn out on its VIP flip, occupying the intersection between Grime
and UK Funky. This one begs to be played on a system. Time Is Now White

repress - France's I Hate Models has had a phenomenal rise since his first
releases in 2016, now he arrives on Perc Trax to serve up the label's last
release of year. Already fitting in with the label's no nonsense aesthetic
after appearances at a number of label showcases this year, this EP shows a
hardening of his sound, without losing any of the melodic touches that have
made his releases so memorable. The original mix of "Spreading
Plague" fills the A-side of the record with a near 10 minute journey
though classic Perc Trax metallic percussion, quivering acid and soaring
analogue lead lines. Epic is a word not often used in relation to Perc Trax,
but here it is perfectly applicable. On the flip side, Perc remixes the lead
track, honing in on the acid and adding swarms of claps and hihats for his
first new production on Perc Trax in 2018. "Martial Order" closes
the EP moving the percussion to the front of the mix once again, as metallic
hits rain down on the listener, delivering a fresh take on one of Perc Trax's
signature sounds |
