on board sleeve. Layer upon layer of noise and distortion, like ashes of
nuclear apocalypse raining down. The final LP Disclose released, in 2004,
captured the band at a high point. When other d-beat raw punk bands were running
low on ideas, Kawakami reinvented the sound, incorporating more metallic
influences like Broken Bones while still sticking assiduously close to the
template. Originally released for Disclose's tour of the US west coast,
'Yesterday's Fairytale, Tomorrow's Nightmare' includes ten tracks and closes
with a rampaging masterpiece, the 10-minute 'Wardead,' which exists on
another astral plane from generic Discharge copyists. This authorized reissue

Cerrot is a Puerto Rican artist
that currently resides in Barcelona. "Iteritax" is his solo debut
trip after appearances on Nina Kraviz's stream-turned-compilation Hot Steel
series. He recorded the 11-track EP in 2020 after falling into a flow that
saw him create several tracks a day. The Plasma distortion unit pedal is at
the core of the EP's raw, harsh and undone style. "Iteritax" is
defined by strong percussion and a variety of modular synth recordings.
"What started out as daily jam sessions effortlessly transformed into
tracks and ultimately this EP. This approach has allowed me to tap into an
infinite source of inspiration. Once I started jamming I had so many routes
to take and it all just flowed for me. This same sense of freedom is what I

bona-fide Nigerian prince and probably the only musician to have ever played
with Fela Kuti, Miles Davis and Bob Marley, Eji Oyewole combined African
Highlife with western jazz to create a hybrid so that was as smooth as it was
funky. His first album, Charity Begins At Home was an angry tirade against
corruption in Nigeria. Me & You is his 'relationship' album, a brighter
and happier set of songs that sees Eji all loved up, presumably with the
mysterious 'Cameleon' featured on the cover. Eji's flute is no longer a
strident voice raised in anger. Instead, on 'Me & You' and 'I'm a Dancer'
it is a playful line of seduction. On the wonky and woozy 'Eniafelamo' his
sax is a post-coital salutation. Even the one political track, 'Long Live
Nigeria', is a loved up call for peace, progress and trust. Chilled, assured
and dexterious, Me & You is a sophisticated showcase of Eji Oyewole's

their self-titled debut album on Roadrunner Records. Dirty, fat '70s Sabbath
riffs coupled with brooding, eerie vocals generate a foreboding atmosphere

forays into their subsequent releases may be met with disappointment as they
are almost entirely instrumental, more one dimensional and lacking

"Phenomena" EP for the third release on his Modwerks imprint.
"I first encountered Toru upon exiting a Tokyo DJ booth one evening. He
was waiting patiently to pass me a CD of his work along with a polite, hand-written
note. The tracks had a uniqueness and an appealing futuristic feel, and thus
a few of them became regular fixtures in my DJ sets" - O [Phase] It was
through this initial exposure that Japanese native Toru Katsuta came also to
the attention of Charlie M Duff (AKA Matrixxman) and his music gained further
broadcasting (featuring in various podcasts and DJ performances). This

You
never quite know what you're going to get from the cult Portland, Oregon
psychedelicists, Jackie-O Motherfucker. 'In The Willows' starts proceedings o
with banks of hazy guitars that threaten to show the chillwave youngsters
where it's at with some sun dappled ri s which lie somewhere between MV &
EE's Bummer Road and Mercury Rev's Yerself Is Steam. But then things get much
weirder and introverted with 'Raga Joining', which comes on like Dub Narcotic
playing Indian devotional music. 'Dedication' is an act of freak folk
shamanism, with its repetitively ritual chant of progress: "This is
dedicated to the person who is trying to nd the next right thing to do."
'Raga Separating' soothes like the brief lucid interval in the middle of a
wall crawling acid trip, with analogue synthesizer drones, languid percussion
and space creating noise. But it's all leading up to 'Where We Go', the
ragged glory of The Butthole Surfers trampling all over J Mascis. Going
through their most stable period to date, and still with Fire Records, they
are taking very local and rural elements of folk and psychedelia - the very
stu that's been cast aside by other less inquisitive souls - and then
transporting them into various new pastures, all of them designed to expand
your mind. As Tom Greenwood said recently: "Who knows if anyone has ever
actually turned lead into gold, but at the core of all alchemical ideas is
the concept of transformation: garbage in, lotus out. You'll nd that
meditating on transformation can be a spiritual source, and as you spend time
thinking about the possibilities, you will carry these concepts into other
parts of your life. It's the foundation of hope where you are toiling now,
and this is the best way to pursue change." |

Records is delighted to announce the reissue of this genre-defying jazz album
originally released on library label Selection Records in 1972. Delving into
the story of the American pianist and composer Phil Raphaël reveals more
questions than answers. He was born in New York where he played with Charlie
Parker, Jon Eardley and Howard McGhee, but a 1951 recording with Red Rodney
for Prestige Records is the single remaining trace of his bebop days. Raphaël
appeared under unknown circumstances in Belgium in the 1960s, playing among
others at the 1966 Jazz Bilzen festival, and he eventually settled in
Brussels. A multifaceted musician, he did not limit himself to jazz and also
worked in pop groups, directed the music for the spectacle Hair, and even had
a brief residency at Pol's Jazz Club where he played the music of Johann
Sebastian Bach four nights per week. His album 'Stop, Look, Listen', which
was recorded with the rhythm section of Babs Robert's group, consists of four
long genre-defying tracks colored by the dreamlike vocals of opera singer
Rose Thompson. A surreal blend of genres, hard to pin down. It's highly
imaginative jazz, that much is sure. Raphaël shifts from serene late night
piano jazz to more free or even spiritual passages, magnificently paired with
the otherworldly vocals of Rose Thompson. The LP was put out by Selection
Records, a label that primarily issued library music at the time, and thus
went largely unnoticed upon release. The recording makes clear that Phil
Raphaël was a highly gifted artist whose talent will forever remain
undervalued, since it was his only effort as a leader. Raphaël's passage
through the Belgian nightlife was just as mysterious as his music, and few
people seem to remember him. Drummer Bruno Castellucci describes him as
remarkable, both as a musician and as a person: "He was a hippie before
there were hippies. He wasn't part of the system but he had a system of his
own." |

Steve
Rachmad's subliminal debut album 'Secret Life Of Machines' was originally
released way back in 1995. In 2012 the album was re-issued, although three
tracks didn't make it to the vinyl re-issue. Now ten years later this new EP
now re-issues also these three tracks after all: 'Satyricon', 'Hydroxy' and
'Draghixia'. Steve Rachmad's richly melodic strain of techno has resulted in
a huge body of work he has been growing since the early 90s. His sound is the
perfect distillation of machine soul - dubby atmospherics and crisp,
danceable dynamics balanced in perfect unison. Amsterdam's Delsin Records
gathers together some of the Dutch techno figurehead's most important,
sought-after works in a new EP series, all remastered from the original DAT
tapes from Steve's archives. Adding to the weight of this series, the
accompanying artwork is being created by Boris Tellegen, aka legendary
graffiti artist Delta who first began designing sleeves with Secret Life Of

his hand to a new breed of production and DJ talent. Created with the aim of
helping push those on the brink of becoming regulars on the leading labels
and those most cult-associated as shining stars within the underground.
Rhymos steps up to inaugurate the imprint in a reliably bass and groove heavy
style. A sterling name within minimal house & techno, that has been
bubbling on the horizon throughout 2017, with headline appearances including
Fabric's main room as part of WetYourSelf!, Rhymos' 'Seizure' EP sets ablaze
with the rolling subline of the title
track, that is accompanied by shimmering hats, that are intertwined with
intermittent fx and synth licks throughout. 'Mi Casa Su Casa' provides the
perfect B-side, a more rough and ready approach that is mixed with ambient
pads and spaced out stabs in the breakdown, which break the track up nicely.
True to form, Ben provides a deeper touch to 'Mi Casa Su Casa', while still
maintaining its dancefloor credibility. Glistening highs hypnotic pads and minimal trademark
glitch, blissful chords and delayed vocals permeate Ben's remix, stripping
the the track back to just its rumbling low end and drums after the break
ensures the track slams and will whip even larger floors into a frenzy |

new spring, a new label, a new direction. NOWHERE is closely linked to the
Utrecht-bunch of Something Happening Somewhere. They kick off with the acid
tingled Substance EP by Human Space Machine. Part of the Amsterdam techno
collective De Lichting, Human Space Machine is driven by Mike Jungerius .
Although he does sprinkle some techno-DNA over his spacious productions, his
machines often take you much deeper into the realm. The title track alone is
a truly hypnotising affair. Close your eyes and soon all that matters is
releasing those hips while forgetting where you are. Onwards with Dong, which
will remind some Dutch techno heads of early Steve Rachmad productions.
Futuristic funk in optima forma. 30803 is a word play on two very important
instruments in dance music, when acid house was a big thing and the world
around you was still simple. Closer Track003 is equally vintage, nodding back
to the days when The Black Dog and As One were considered the new techno
gods. UK beauty with a crystal-clear Amsterdam twist. If NOWHERE means

minimalism. «Chimpandzen EP» details his idea of how effective dance music
can be. The title track on side A is a pure formula of kinetic energy without
any impurities and complications. As long as Newton's laws are in place, such
compositions will always embody the brightest moments of parties. The second
side has transparency and lyrics in "Prime Philosophy", but the
rhythm and groove keeps us dancing. "Bubble Bridge" is a more
conceptual atmosphere, but at the same time everything is extremely rhythmic

Portuguese
artist Lake Haze (Goncalo Salgado) makes his return to Shall Not Fade with an
album of spacious club music. Salgado is a key player in Portuguese musical
exports, delivering masterful blends of techno grooves and retro melodies,
and released his debut LP on E-Beamz in 2019. This second LP is titled Sun
Rising On Concrete Landscapes. This record explores further the atmospheric,
slightly melancholic timbre to Salgado's music. The use of reverb across the
LP elucidates a sense of looking back to the past; "The Rave That Saved
My Life" sounds like echoes from a distant memory. It turns the sounds
of the rave into something sombre, expansive and scattered with space age
breaks. The title track feels dramatic, starting with melodic loops and
scattered percussion but building into an untamed electro banger. The sci-fi
theme develops in a gorgeous soundscape of minimalist synth stabs in
"She Took Me To Her Favourite Club", while "Always By Your
Side" lingers in echoing percussion; the purposefully dated snare gives
it some hints of an 80s ballad - deeply retro and deeply emotional. Salgado
turns to more raw, club-ready sounds like the scattered breaks and electronic
sound effects of "Neurotoxins Dancing On My Tongue" or the punching
kick and creeping acid trills of "Liquid Serotonin". His skills as
a producer are clear as he constructs the cavernous "Digital
Petals" with reminiscences of classic trance sounds. The expansive LP
closes with "Emotional Encore". It's an industrial retro chugger
with the dust of lofi sounds across it, eclectic and headsy |

"We
Are Power", Galaxian's first album in over a decade, cuts a new path. On
this Foul-Up and Shipwrec joint release, Kastner presents a rumination on the
confrontation and power clash between humankind, nature, the spiritual and
mechanistic industrial growth societies. What is authentic power? What is
granted power? What is innate natural power? How is power accessed, wielded,
utilised, felt? On this album the blistering beats and razor-edged rhythms
that characterise the Glaswegian's productions have been softened, the menace
melted, the angst soothed (well almost.) Across eleven tracks, distinct audio
vistas are surveyed. The human form takes centre stage from the opening
monologue of "Out of Balance" with the entire record searching for
balance between humankind, nature, orthodox culture & the machine. At
times the machine wins. "We Are Power" is a corruption of voice,
samples chopped, sliced and fed into controllers and sequencers to produce a
dense decibel wall. That wall grows ever higher in the terrifying drone of
"Anatomy of a Modern Lie." At other points, a perfect symmetry
between artist and tool is found. The racing interchanges and pulses of
"Universal Truths" give rise to dawning reprises and warmth. For
those after an electro fix, Galaxian abides. The speed snares of
"Messianic Delusions" or dripping drums of "Fields of
Meaning" are soaked in the history of machine music, yet they are
grander in their delivery and more nuanced in their composition. Fresh
territories are explored, the playful solar dreams of "Without
Form" or the cinematic grandeur of "In Reverse". This album is
unmistakable Galaxian, it marks a high-point and brings with it a culmination
of intense expression |

the first snare roll leaves no doubt: this is a dub album, reminiscing the
pioneers of the genre like King Tubby, Lee "Scratch" Perry and
Scientist and of course, it's a tribute to the revolutionary music of Bob
Marley and the Wailers. The original record from which these dubs derive -
"Bob" by Kapelle So&So feat. Cpt. Yossarian - was recorded in
2020, the year of Bob Marley's 75th birthday. Due to the strict lockdown all
the tracks were recorded separately - which perfectly qualifies them for a
dub rework. The musicians involved took great care to dig deeply into the
original music, absorbing every note of the Wailers' recordings and
translating it to their own instrument. But at this point we leave common
paths, because what would be Aston Barrett's electric bass turns out to be a
tuba and his brother Carly's distinguished bassdrum sound resurges on an old
leather suitcase. We are talking of a traditional bavarian folk band
(trumpet, cornet, tuba, accordion, guitar, drums) playing Bob Marley's sacred
music. Simultaneously seriously sticking to the original score and adding
color to the music by the masterful use of their rather uncommon instruments.
What sounds like an impossible -almost blasphemous- endeavour actually sounds
pretty neat and leads to the next big venture: A dub album paying tribute to
the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers. The dub versions naturally lead on
the abstract that was introduced by the uncommon orchestration by muting or
emphasizing single instruments and sending them into the sonic orbit. The
melody itself is almost completely left out. Nevertheless one never loses
one's orientation since the defining elements of the songs alternate
skillfully, vanishing in clouds of reverb, losing themselves in echo
feedbacks and then popping up again, guiding us through the song. Despite
being focused mainly on bass and drums you will catch yourself singing along
Marley's part more than once thereby proving the profound impact of this
divine music on our souls and our common musical knowledge. Bob Marley in Dub
is the abstract of an abstract and still manages to transport the heart and
soul inherent of the music. With all due respect to the original, Cpt.
Yossarian manages to illuminate nuances of the material yet unheard and takes
us on a trip through his conception of this otherwise well known material.
Following the tradition of the before mentioned mentors of dub music he uses
his mixing desk, a couple of studio effects and whatever odd sounding kids
toys to present us with his approach to a musical genre that defined so many
styles of music that followed |

Being in love with music since
his adolescence, Frédéric forged a culture, integrating song, Latin music,
jazz, as much as Kraftwerk's electronic preludes in the late 70’s. In
addition to studying drums and piano, his interests is also in African and
oriental music. His curiosity is limitless, and all musical cultures find an
interest in his eyes, which makes him a personality apart on the electronic
scene. In 1997, his meeting with F-communications was an important step since
it gave him the opportunity to release his first record. He combined
electronic music and jazz in a new way. So much so that the classification in
one genre or the other is impossible. The album, "Frédéric Galliano
& the African Divas", recorded especially in West Africa with
African singers, is the perfect missing link between traditional music and

In Waves is a new sister label of
Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream. Its third release comes from Zone+ and is a
superb 13 track collection that sinks you deep into the artist's rich house
sounds. A Balloon In The Wind (Ambient) opens top with dreamy pads and spring
day sounds, then supple grooves arrive like Hello to take you away into a
hypnotic world. Shinobi has bumpier drums and elastic bass, Bohemian brings
worldly percussive sounds and Mandalorian layers up smooth drums with soft
pads and angelic vocals. This most heady and cuddly of albums plays out
through the clipped house and subtly funky kicks of What's Going On, the
bubbly sounds and Middle Eastern vocals of The Musician and widescreen

GREEN VELVET makes his Circus
Recordings debut with Bigger than Prince, his most talked about track in
years! Bigger Than Prince was born out of a conversation between label boss
Yousef and Green Velvet when both played the Indonesian leg of the annual Circus
Tour. The idea of the Chicago legend contributing a brand new track for the
Circus X // part 1 compilation was floated and soon he was joining nine other
friends of Circus who were all to feature in celebration of ten years of
events. *Bigger than Prince* is a classic Green Velvet vocal number and
sharper and fresher than anything we have heard this summer. Quirky and

The
relationship between Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Shun begins in 2018,
when the British label decamped to Tokyo to throw a party in the Japanese
capital. Alongside a lineup which contained the likes of Fleck E.S.C., Shun
was one of the local artists who DJed that night. Now, four years on, he
links up with the Sheffield imprint in order to deliver dancefloor
destruction in the form of new EP The Door. There is some seriously tough
club tackle here. Regular followers of CPU will be able to identify many of
the sonic archetypes which have made the label a leader in the field of
modern electro. These four tracks are backed by broken-beat machine-funk
snaps in the vein of Drexciya, Jensen Interceptor and the like, and one finds
a sense of dystopian futurism running through The Door which links it to
other CPU drops. However, there is also a gritty, saturated feel to these
productions which marks Shun out from the pack. With their writhing,
insistent bass melodies and heat-treated drum programming, opening cuts
'Digital Slave' and 'Kishibi' have plenty in common with the underground
wiggle of labels like Super Rhythm Trax, while prominent use of 303s also
provide these tunes with an acidic tang. Another quality which distinguishes
Shun's vision is the inspiration he draws from anime. Track titles like
'Kishibi' and 'Rohan' are references to Kishibe Rohan, a figure from the
manga 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure' in which the names of characters and their
specific techniques are drawn from musical sources. This give and take with
influences outside of music is further felt in how Shun makes liberal use of
keyboard melodies that nod to horror and sci-fi movies - the introduction of
such synths into 'Kishibi' and 'Rohan' give The Door an almost cinematic
quality which is amplified still further by the vocal snippets which flit
around the mix on several tracks. Japanese producer Shun debuts on Central

Charlotte
de Witte takes charge of her KNTXT label's 15th release with the new
Universal Consciousness EP. It comes after Amazingblaze - Venture EP and
features four more powerful and psychedelic techno cuts. Charlotte is soon to
be playing her biggest ever KNTXT party in mid April. It shall take place in
her hometown of Ghent and see her play a historic 10 hour set to a vast crowd
of people who shall go on an all night long journey. Also in April, Charlotte
returns to London’s iconic Printworks for the first time in five years, this
time with her KNTXT concept and once again is set to raise the roof. While
staying busy on the road, she continues to curate the Apple Music x KNTXT
page while cooking up ever fresh sounds in the studio. This latest EP is another
subtle evolution in her signature style. Says Charlotte of the EP,
"following up on my latest Asura EP in September, I decided to delve a
bit deeper in the world of psychedelia. All the tracks of the EP are psy
inspired, some more than others. I’ve been playing these tracks for a while
now in the clubs. It’s been a real pleasure to see the crowd’s reaction and
see the amount of track ID requests online. This one is from me to you, I
hope you enjoy my Universal Consciousness EP!" Opener 'Satori' is dark
and heavy. The chunky, raw drums hit hard and flat as the squelchy acid
synths pan about the mix. An enchanting middle eastern vocal wail brings an
extra trance-inducing element that is sure to lock in the hearts and minds of
the crowd. The super 'Kali' is a slick and high speed piece that shows the
love relation between psy trance and techno. The video game style synths peel
off the groove next to alien sound effects, and the subtly evolving acid line
burrows deep into your brain. Then comes the dynamic, bouncy and acid
laced-title cut ‘Universal Consciousness’. It's a fulsome tune with rubbery
kicks and visceral 303 loops that will melt the mind as dancers fall into its
hypnotic and tripped out spell. Last of all is 'Ahimsa' with its bright,
lashing acid synths and hammering kick drums. It's the perfect mix of
physical groove and psyched-out synth work, and is perfect for both sweaty
basements and vast main rooms alike. When the mystical flutes come in, it
takes things to another level entirely.

The
Covid Pandemic hit Germany in March 2020 and by the 15th of March all of the
public life was shut down. It was the same day where my son Rio was born. For
me, this early stage of the pandemic had something very intimate and private,
since I was forced to stay at home with my young family for weeks. In Mai
2020 I started to leave the house, for other occasions then just going to the
shop or taking a walk and that was the time I started working on “Hotel
Solaris”. It was an intense creative rush: in 8 weeks the album was written,
performed and produced in one flow. I had two days every week, where I could
go to the studio for 4 hours and that time the album was done. It had a
corpus in a sense that I knew I wanted a faster or a slower track at points,
but the whole hotel idea came when I saw photos of the old Hotel Arkada on
the Croatian island Hvar, that my extremely talented friend Marcella Zanki
shot on her holidays. They show a well preserved socialist-brutalist hotel
architecture in the middle of the beautiful Adriatic and for me it was like
looking at pictures from a timeless place, without knowing where and when
it exactly was, totally surreal. I
liked that idea of a hote that stands as an escape symbol from the real
world, which was something everyone needed when the pandemic was building
stronger and stronger. I decided to call it Hotel Solaris, inspired by the
novel from Stanislav Lem, where Solaris is a planet covered by an ocean which
triggers our subconscious mind to become
reality. It all fit at the end and “Hotel Solaris” was done. |
