Robo
Arigo is an extraordinary multi-instrumentalist from Nigeria's Ogun State. A
founding member of Pogo Ltd, he played bass, guitar and organ on both their
albums and plays all kinds of instruments, including cowbell, on Sexy Thing
too. One listen to the record, however, (and a quick look at the back of the
cover), and it's pretty clear that playing bass is where Robo's heart lay.
Especially when he gets to slap it. The slapping starts early on 'Konastone
Ponk', a dippy, funky track where Robo implores that if his music 'touches
your soul, get up and dance.' The interplay between bass and guitar is magic
- it's clear that Eno Louis is Nile Rodgers to Robo's Rick James, with a bit
of Prince and Parliament thrown in for good measure. The funk feels dark and
dangerous on 'Girls Reservation' and gets seriously slinky on 'Sexy Thing'. I
can't over emphasis what a truly great album this is. The sound is clean and
the production is stripped back and funky, a sound Robo would finesse as a
producer with his Robbosoneex Music Company in Benin. Listen to the audacious
cover of 'Get Up, Stand Up', and tell me that you're not convinced that very
Bob Marley songs needs a slap bass break in the middle. You need this record

At
a time when bandleaders in Nigeria used titles as an affectation, Dr. Adolf
Ahanotu was the real deal. He had a PhD in music compilation and Master's
degrees in education and communication. He also played a mean tenor sax, an
instrument he mastered touring Owerri with the Mirabels. Ahanotu's scholarly
background is apparent in the impeccable arrangements and the way each track
is labelled with its musical type. The banging opening track, 'Sensation' is
disco, notes the helpful doctor. The legendary 'Ijere' is to be considered
Remire or Afro Jazz. 'Litany of Freedom' is reggae, 'Cupid' is rock and
'Tropical Moonlight' classified as the blues. The mandatory ode to the
nation, 'Happy Nigeria', is labelled as calypso. But these are not dry,
scholarly pieces. 'Sensation' reeks of dance floor freakiness not the
hallowed halls of academia. And listen to the pitch bend craziness on
'Injere'. Sure, Dr. Ahanotu had studied the rules. But he wasn't afraid to
break them. From the freaked-out opening seconds of the title track you are

70s and by the mid-80s, the small steel mill town of Fagersta had seven
bands, immortalised on rare compilation The Vikings Are Coming, which is
surprisingly diverse: Bizarr's old-school punk is influenced by the Clash and
SLF: Cruel Maniacs give social criticism and Crude SS's hardcoredraws on
Discharge Rescues In Future's speedcore is super melodic, influenced by
Husker Du: Fear of War's thrash is anti-religious and there's more thrash
from Bedrovlerz (or Miserablerz'), while Ugly Squaw proffer unique power-punk
humour (also making an incognito faux-reggae appearance as Rasta Boys). This
edition revives the ori- ginal Swedish version released on Uproar Records in
l985, giving us the full monty of this must-have anthology |

Bogotá's UNIDAD IDEOLOGICA sound
is pure high intensity hardcore. The eight songs on their debut 12"
clock in below 15 minutes and not a single second is wasted. Their sound is
very bass and drum driven, full of breakneck, pummelling relentless beats
which do not rest for a second, setting a claustrophobic atmosphere for the
noise to grow. Feedback ladden guitars at times verge on BM, which brings RAW
POWER, EXECUTE, GISM and DISARM to mind, creating the perfect background for
a raging vocalist full of venom to sing about fear, control, technology, and
the rampant neoliberalism destroying their land and literally killing as we
speak. UNIDAD IDEOLOGICA was conceived at Bogotá's Rat Trap. Recorded at Epia
Estudios by Santiago Gonzalez during Colombia's strict lockdown and curfews
earlier this year. Mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios.

As you may already know most of
the famous Japanese hardcore bands comes from the bigger city of Japan like
Tokyo/Osaka/Nagoya but sometimes you can see there is a great band coming out
from very countryside and this time SLUDGE is no exception. SLUDGE comes from
Kinan/Wakayama Southwest Japan and it is always fascinating to see such an
impressive band coming out from the rural and remote area. After several
years of unknown activities the band released an demo cd-r and sold it at
only few record shops which was the start of everything. Every people who
happen to get the demo was blown away. Crust war had a chance to meet the
members one day and asked if they wanted to release something and now this is
the result. 10 tracks of total anarchic rawness and destructive mayhem played
in traditional Japanese metalcore punk style with slightly crust and metal
punk touch. Fans of GISM,ZOUO,later GHOUL, EFFIGY, DEMOLITION, TETSU- ARREY,
G.A.T.E.S shouldn't miss this!? |

After a massive 30-tracks digital compilation celebrating a decade of
existence, Gegen keeps moving forward with the release of their third vinyl
record. Starting it off is Berlin-based Cristian Marras: DJ, Producer and
Rebels Conspiracy label founder who plays solid driving Industrial Techno and
his track for Gegen is no exception. Opening with ethereal chants like a
coven calling to arms, Asymmetric sounds like an existential journey from
awakening to action, the switch in state of mind materialized by a menacing
acid line immerging halfway through, leading us out of darkness. Next is UK’s
JoeFarr, a versatile and skilled craftsman who recently got music out on Soma
followed soon by a release on Rebekah’s Elements. His track for Gegen is the
bittersweet Timeless, built on the duality between soft emotional hopeful
melodies and raw distorted cutting martial basslines and crushing sound
design. On the B side, Berlin’s OCD’s artist statement centered around the
ideology of pain and the battle against anxiety caused by a senseless world
with the goal to turn people’s fear and information overload into rage and
find pleasure from overwhelming emotions in modern rhythms is in full effect
on her track Egoismus. With its mournful pads like heartbroken fairies
floating above an army on the move and thumping kicks characteristic of her
hard sound, OCD brings you into an oneiric state where everything is out of
control and too fast — a metaphor for our ages. To round it all up is
British-born, Vienna-based Codex Empire whose productions you might have
heard on aufnahme + wiedergabe or Sacred Court. He brings to Gegen his
signature dark and intense techno with Hagane, a track built on heavy
rhythmic elements and metallic pounding sounds bouncing off each other for an

Kavinsky
is a zombie who came back from the dead after his Testarossa crashed in 1986.
His first song, "Testarossa Autodrive", was an instant success, and
was followed by two singles. In 2007, he was chosen by Daft Punk to open
their now legendary "Alive" tour. In 2011, his track
"Nightcall", produced with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, became the
theme song for the film "Drive", and consequently a worldwide
success. Kavinsky's first album, "Outrun", was released in 2013,
followed by a collaboration with The Weeknd on the song "Odd Look".
In 2022, Kavinsky is back with "Reborn", his second album recorded
at the famous Motorbass studio in Paris, due March 25th. While recording it,
Kavinsky had this special project to record a sequel to his hit song
"Nightcall", which after all sounded almost like a movie scene.
This sequel would be called "Zenith". Therefore, like in the
original, he composed a duet between a girl and a man, but reversed: the
verse is sung by the woman, the chorus by the man. Prudence (formerly from
the successful duet The Dø) is the female vocalist, Morgan Phalen (who sung
with Justice and is the vocalist of the band Diamond Nights) plays the male
character along with a special guest: the saxophone. "Zenith"
showcases Kavinsky's romantic side on a muted and futuristic sound |

The
clandescent Federico Sutera and Laurent Schmidhausler form the insidious duo
Rotkeller, known for their excursions into ponderous and maundering
interpretations of electronic music. Their last release on Threnes was an
experimental and perplexing delight that perpetuated their virtuosity. The
Swiss pair has returned to release a pressing technoid sound on the Threnes
imprint entitled Antimatter. The project kicks off the track 'Antimatter'. It
has distinctive and emphatic patterned percussions and a wandering pad that
wistfully saunders in and out. There are clever uses of claps, crisp hats and
insisted clicks. The track lays the foundation of the sound to expect from
the EP with comprehensive yet wonderous beats. 'DipK' follows the opening
track, which has a bit more body and sways. It was made for the waning hours
of a club when it might be getting bright outside, but the crowd doesn't want
to leave. It has a captivating synth that runs throughout and an infectious
bassline; the sound allows the mind to roam free but rhythmic drums, hits and
snares make the body move. Midway through is the Kangding Ray remix of
'Tetra4'. The French-born but Berlin-based artist is known for his mastery in
blurring the lines between techno and experimental, and this track is a
testament to his talents. The cut has a classic underground club feel as it
simply keeps up the tempo. The oscillating synth is compounded with spacy
fluttering stabs with a kick drum that adds resounding velocity to the track.
The penultimate track, 'Skpp Skpp', features B.Skupin. It has an enchanting
heavy breath prominent throughout the cut, accompanied by ethereal choir
chants and a deep repetitive voice before being replaced by a siren-like
synth. The beats fluctuate by dropping in and out, enhanced by the catalyst
of deep drums and luring drops. The final cut is the original mix of
'Tetra4', which keeps the same modus operandi of the remix. The telling
differences come in the pensive drops and ability to slow tempo momentarily
with hypnotic synths and drifting rhythms. Antimatter will be the first
release under the Threnes in the new year and will be released on vinyl and
digital. Expect this EP from Rotkeller to be released on June 10, 2022 |

Blurry as the night and bright as
the stars Maeteriet joins the fray by levitating into the system. They open
their gem-covered robe and reveal all the treasure collected throughout their
many journeys. The Hon (A1) sets the mood just right alluring us into an
almost hypnotized mindset. Moniker (A2) extends the grip Maeteriet has taken

Rolling Thud (B1) gives off an almost machine-like air around it, hissing and

After
ten years 12 Inch Lovers has become a household name not only because of
their parties but also because of the fantastic vinyl samplers they released
over the past few years, which were sold out in no time and have become true
collector's items. They now continue in the same vein and once again bring a
fresh and contemporary mix of hard to find, original house classics or even
classics that never had a vinyl release. Therefor these samplers should not
be missed in any 12 Inch Lovers collection. "Gregor Salto" is at it
again! Sampler 6 opens with that other and hard to find classic of his
"Your Friend". A club classic that has won the hearts of countless
clubbers and house fanatics around the world since 2009. And speaking of
hearts; Belgian dj-producer "DJ Wout" released this beautiful and
emotional remix of "D. Van Horn's" "Somebody Now To
Love". A true trance classic and typical in sound for that period that
you can find on A2. On B1 we find a more recent track but which you can
already say is a future classic. "MZ" from "Sascha Funke"
is still played to this day by top DJs like Solomun and very hard to find on
vinyl. A must have! Dutch producer "Karmon" delivered this catchy
deephouse remix of "Fabo's" "Where I Stand" in 2012. You
can find it on B2. On C1 we find the beautiful "Andain" classic in
the "Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix". "Beautiful
Things" was picked up by "Tiësto" at the time and has made it
a true classic. Hard to find on vinyl. "Moko" "Fly" on C2
is a very catchy and quirky track from 2010 that never had a vinyl release!
Highly recommended! D1 brings the dreamy and highly sought after
"Today" from "POB & Taylor" in the
"Seismic" remix after which we close with D2 with a true classic.
"My Moon My Man" by "Feist" is probably that record which
remix is better than the original. "Boys Noize" was responsible for
this in 2007 and the rest is as they say history |

Ep of tracks from the mighty old school partnership of Dj Fokus and Voyager,
who drop four cuts filled with classic original DnB vibes in their own
distinctive styles. First up, Dj Fokus brings a huge classic track back from
the Day with 'Online' which has stayed true to its original golden era style,
but with a new line of code in the beats to give it a fresh twist. Also
straight out of the vault is the completely unreleased track, 'Inteliqo'
which was made around 1995 in the legendary Monroe studios, but stayed hidden
on DAT until 2021. Both tracks have those authentic 90's vibes and are sure
to drop! Following on are two tracks from Voyager that feature his distinct
style and rolling beats. 'Aurora remix' takes the original deep atmospheric
stepper and drops a rolling Amen into the mix that adds a new take on lifting
the lush pads and melodies of the original into a more upfront style.

Mani Festo isn't designing the artwork for Club Glow - the collective he
forms part of alongside Borai, Denham Audio and LMajor - or running his own
imprint "Flightpath", he uses his DJ sets and production to pay
homage to the soundsystem-oriented music that made him. A real artist of the
moment, the past couple of years have seen Mani Festo get the recognition he
deserves, with many citing his prowess in capturing the darkly seductive
essence of hardcore's antecedents, creating something at once nostalgic and
futuristic. Those searching for this fine balance will not be disappointed by
Pathfinder EP, the next instalment of Basement Trax: a series which focuses
on club-fuelled Techno and Electro. "Powertriip" is a full-bodied electro
slammer, coloured by the metallic textures of an industrial soundscape. The

marks its milestone 150th release in a rainstorm of gorgeous arps with a full
EP from Voiski. For Luc Kheradmand it's a return to the label which carried
his 2020 collaboration with Wata Igarashi and where he issued early single
Breaths Written Outside Gloom. For Delsin it's the perfect way to sum up
different dimensions of the label's identity - richly melodic,
machine-powered and yet distinct from any illusion of a typical 'Delsin
sound'. The End Of Fiction EP marks a new chapter in Kheradmand's approach
and intention. His prolific back catalogue reaches back across countless
releases for labels like L.I.E.S., Dekmantel UFO, Bassiani and his own Super
95. Here his established overdriven snarl is tempered, but not at the expense
of the energy and emotion readily associated with his music. There's a trace
of trance and early Detroit about the powerful lead lines on 'Blazing Star'
and 'Hazy Suns', while 'Unreality' basks in blissful acid and 'Ideodelika'
charts a course through progressive, psychedelic techno. The End Of Fiction
still bristles with the peak time energy Voiski is often known for, but it's
the melodies which dominate the overall narrative as he sets out a renewed
clarity in his sound |

January 20, 2020 saw the surprise
release of David Lynch's short What Did Jack Do? on Netflix. If you watched
the grainy, police procedural over the last few days, you most likely found
yourself saying aloud `who is Jack Cruz and how can I get more of his music?'
Sacred Bones is announcing the release of the short's featured original song
"True Love's Flame" by the primate star crooner of yesteryear; Jack
Cruz. Not much is known about Cruz's career prior to his involvement with
Lynch, but fortunately, we have not just one song, but two: 'Dancin' in the
World of Love' is the B-side to the short's single_uncovered recently and an
excellent example of Cruz's emotional prowess and magical, gold-dipped vocal

Relentless
techno powerhouses Octave One stride in 2022 with a brand new release that
re-affirms their status across two essential tracks. 2021 was another busy
year for the Burden Brothers, who re-introduced the world to their Never On
Sunday alias. The project first started in the 90s as an outlet for deeper,
more introspective sounds and was fittingly brought back last year to great
acclaim. The Detroit duo’s Locus of Control series also hit volume number
three and the iconic Octave One live show continued to light up clubs
everywhere from Barcelona, Paris and Geneva to LA and New York. Despite that,
they still had time to cook up more of their famously soulful techno in the
studio, the first two tracks of which are presented here.Opener ‘The Blue Drift’
surges ahead on waves of rattling metallic synths. Well swung claps bring
that irresistible sense of groove, while twisted melodies add raw dynamics.
Add in the heavy underlying bass and you have a classic Octave One track that
is both physical yet emotional. On the flip side is ‘It-Just-Is’ a powerful
statement of intent. It’s a stripped back track where house and techno meet -
there is a seductive slide to the drums and potency in the turbulent synths
which bring the energy. The melody is melancholic and as the emotive pads
ring out they lodge deep in your brain to make for another standout cut. This
vital new release proves Octave One remains right at the forefront of

Berlin
based duo Pan-Pot begin 2022 with a momentous milestone for their Second
State imprint, including a fresh look for the long-standing label. The
winning design by Philipp Ludwig was chosen out of hundreds of entries after
the label launched a contest for this very special release in November of
last year. ‘Skin on Skin’ marks Second State's 100th release and showcases
the variety of different sounds homed by the label since 2014 with 3 fiery
contrasting cuts from its founders, giving a nod to the range and expression
that Pan-Pot’s imprint has come to be known for in today’s techno scene. Raw
cut ‘Skin on Skin’ takes position as opener. Resonating bongos and rattling
shakers incite a tribal element while ominous synths begin to unfold. Sandra
Bjurman's taunting, faintly distorted voice comes in, claps and growling
organs are layered over while metallic ringing gives way to the vocal once
more. Twisted elements and the resonating drums are revived for the finale,
closed out by a soaring Balafon. ‘Particle Fever’ is next, kicking off with a
resounding, impactful kick and gritty elements: jumping bass line and
metallic stabs that ring out and halt swiftly. Yelping keys call out during
the breakdown halfway through, exploding back into original pace with the
addition of a weighty bass line and stripped back grittier elements. The
closer ‘Bow’ is characterized by warped and pulsating elements that march
forward menacingly. A rumbling bass snarls beneath metallic strikes, an
oscillating spring synth and a sliced up and brooding sample, injecting a
haunting element. Grumbling synths hover buoyantly throughout, as the kick
and mechanical elements continue with authority |

Fierce
interdimensional acid tracks on the latest outing from the I.T. HQ in
Detroit!! Andy Toth casts a long shadow in the Detroit scene, from being
co-founder of the Detroit Grand Pubahs to working as an engineer and mixer,
he's worked on so many records that you know but in his egoless way, didn't
know he was part of. Being the co-author of "Sandwiches" took him
around the world, but more importantly, it was the hold music for Mudgie's, a
legendary Detroit Deli run by another long-standing denizen of the Detroit
underground, Greg Mudge. Greg Mudge was a true pillar of our techno community
in Detroit, from showing us the venue for the first leaky roof No Way Back,
to throwing his own events and supporting great people. One of those people was
Andy Toth, who he was constantly pressuring to release his music, and this
became a major theme of Greg Mudge's memorial. When Greg suddenly passed last
September, some friends came in to DJ his memorial like Derek Plaslaiko. When
it was Andy Toth's turn he played only his own productions and we were all
just so blown away. Mudgie was always asking Andy "what's up with those
tracks?" And this record is the answer, a testament to that thought, and
to the deeply layered and detailed work of Andy Toth. Andy has created a
uniquely dense Detroit Sci-Fi trip through sound, with elements of acid,
electro, techno that result in an advanced and mature adventure in sound,
reflecting his roots in the Detroit scene, but pushing it into new hypnotic

Danny
Corten and Youri Parker head up our next 12” vinyl adventure on Bonzai
Records with a duo of pumping tracks to get the floors rocking on Love Is An
Ocean. Danny Corten aka Danny C is a Belgian DJ and producer with a plethora
of releases under various labels. He and Youri have been collaborating in the
studio for many Years, and he formed part of the Cherry Moon Trax collective.
His DJ skills took him all over the world, performing in top spots with top
rated DJ’s. Producing music has been somewhat of a success for Danny, his
track, I Want You, climbed high in the Belgian charts with the follow-up, In
My Mind, soared in the French charts. His tracks have also gained solid
support amongst his peers, and he continues to churn out only the finest quality
sounds. Youri Parker was influenced by the early 90’s rave and house music
sounds. He started to spin vinyl in 1992 and soon after he gained a residency
in the legendary Cherry Moon club, where he would stay for over a decade.
During this time, he spun alongside some of the world’s most famous jocks and
he also joined the mighty Cherry Moon Trax, which consisted of some of the
biggest names in Belgium. He has produced a raft of track with many different
artists, most of which got picked up and championed by the likes of Carl Cox,
Tiesto, Sven Vath, Jeff Mills and more. Love Is An Ocean gets the floor
moving right from the off as heavy beats, spritely percussions and teasing
acid flavours lay the foundation. The track builds nicely alongside ethereal
vox and airy pads before a mighty, gritty synth line takes control for the
duration. Pure pumping adrenaline that does not disappoint. First released in
2020, Reactivate proved popular and so getting cut to vinyl was a no-brainer.
The track dishes out an upfront groove filled with energy and drive, with the
intro boasting classic rave stabs and a teasing, underlying 303 lines. A
short build up takes us to thumping kicks which ramp up the energy levels to
critical mass. The main break imposes an infectious hook which, when coupled
with the kick drums, unleashes a pounding groove straight to the pleasure
receptors. The track oozes retro charm with a contemporary structure,
something that will delight the crowds no doubt |

Enigmatic Italian house
connoisseurs Quasar and Cristo join the Lost Palms catalogue with a 4-track
collaboration which touches base at tech house, deep house and all the

The
Orbit was founded in 2016 by saxophonist Soren Lyhne Skov and pianist Peder
Vind. The two had been playing together for over a decade in various groups
inspired by afro-beat and ethio jazz. The idea with Orbit is to maintain the
feel of certain musical traditions but to explore them through a modal jazz
perspective. The ominous Orbit Bound is centered around the figure played by
the bass clarinet. The time is 9/8 and with the sound of the bass clarinet
you might get a Balkan feel. But the scale is more Middle Eastern making it
difficult to place precisely - like an orbit constantly moving. NV is a
tribute to the North Western borough of Copenhagen, which is a multi-ethnic
and partly still ungentrified part of Copenhagen. The area has its struggles and
social problems but at the same time it is also a place of warmth, surprises
and lot of untapped talent. This song has a loose minor scale theme with some
sparse piano chords and a solid bassline leading the way. The drums are
constrained giving the track a feeling of unreleased energy similar of the
potential energy in NV |
