The ninth release on Curtis
Electronix catalogue is from the new collaborative project where Kalean,
Z.I.P.P.O and CEM3340 join forces under the name of Gravity Waves. The
project is a reflection of the bond developed over a bunch of jam sessions
down at the Curtis' basement, where they discovered to orbit similar spaces.
As the title may suggest the sound is deeply rooted in the Detroit side of
the electro utopia, with that heady and atmospheric approach. Satellite LP is
a seven tracks Album where they combine moments of sub-aquatic and evocative
synth works with dancefloor heavyness excursions which level of composition
reveals a clear and undoubted mastery of the machines. All tracks are
recorded and mixed in Bari, South of Italy |

Another beautiful WeMe release.
EOD delivers a lovely collection of tracks in his well-known sound signature.
Late Rephlex, and braindance influences are obvious but (Also considering he
did release on Rephlex), but EOD did add his own fingerprint which is
influenced by early Amiga sounds and Deeper Detroit Electro. Ingest and
enjoy. (A special word of thank from EOD go out to Lucy Nate Dean Derek Cole

repress - Rotterdam based artist ''Ben Buitendijk'' has been around for quite
a while now. With a string of releases of labels such as ''Ogun Records'',
''Eshu Records'' and appearances on the mighty ''Field Records'', the time
has come for Ben to launch his own imprint. Inspired by the city of Rotterdam
and his love for anything architectural, Oblique was founded. A label that is
designed to cater to Ben's vision on the overall electronic landscape and to
display his love for well thought out drum patterns with dense long-stretched
builds and strained atmospheres. ''Venomous EP'' comes in a package of three
extended techno cuts with a certain corresponding theme. As the title might
suggest, all cuts have a certain touch of hazardousness to them. ''Black
Mamba'' is best explained as the experience of poison slowly creeping through
one's veins and leaving an irreversible trail of destruction. ''King Cobra''
feels more boisterous than it's predecessor. Again, a long repetitive build
keeps on changing into a slightly psychotic state of being while razor-sharp
bits of synthesis tickle the listeners brain like when undergoing
acupuncture. ''Stingray'' is the final cut of this first ''Oblique'' effort.
Whilst maintaining the corresponding ''Venomous'' theme, the last endeavour
is a thumping outcry of muscular drums, a ponderous bass shot, and haunting
pad sounds that together create a dystopian character. As an extra, Ben has
thrown in an ominous locked groove that should be useful in adventurous club
settings |

repress - For the second effort on his very own Oblique imprint, Ben
Buitendijk returns to the sound he's only showcased through his well received
Promised Land (Mosaic) and a recent remix through Subwax. This more dubby
approach is the general thread in the sophomore Oblique release called ''Past
and Present EP''. Generally, this release is threading into deeper
territories than it's predecessor but is therefor revealing different sides
of the label owner's taste that are maybe being underexposed thus far.
''Roots'' acts as a sublime opening track. Dramatic fx works are bundled
together over a well built drum pattern that collides extremely well with the
almost lava-esque bubbly sound of the delay laden synths that float
throughout. ''Side Stepping'' is somewhat of a change in atmosphere. While
maintaining the spacious yet dubby approach of the the opening track, ''Side
Stepping'' has a lighter feel to it while the drums are thoroughly programmed
underneath and the FX chains seem even more present than before. On the B
side we find ''Apollo'' again a dubby stepper which evolves subtly into a
more mean crawler that cleverly blends dramatic chords together with
fragments of delayed stabs and panned artefacts. ''Near Mint'' serves as the
''Past And Present EP''s finale. A spacious cut that respects the overall
feel of the EP whilst gently threading into a more otherwordly atmosphere
which moves in perfect harmony with the buldging bass hit that sits
underneath |

Edition Hawara’s fifth release is
a raw funk gem by a little-known Austrian pop band called Magic Sound.
Edition Hawara’s second 7“release features one of the more obscure Austrian
bands from the 1980s. Little is known about Magic Sound. The cover suggests
that their label wanted them to be Austria’s Village People, though their
sound is much rawer and funkier. One thing we know for sure is that the group
included Andy Töfferl, who was also a member of the famous Austrian pop
ensemble EAV (Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung). And we know that they went to
the studio to record a whole album after touring Sweden in 1980. Only these
two songs survived, and they are worth listening to over and over again.

Every
time Guy J releases his solo material on Lost & Found, the world of music
lovers is ready for a treat. He's not only one of the leaders of the global
scene but a musical innovator pushing the limits of studio techniques and
borders of abstract emotional content. His latest conceptual masterpiece
consists of two tracks ranging in length from over 7 to almost 11 minutes and
a total run time of over 18 minutes. The opening track, Last Standing, blends
the progressive motifs with an out-of-this-world anthemic breakdown. The
piece is simultaneously melodic and nostalgic but manages to deliver a new,
previously unheard edge to the technical execution of the production. The
closing track, Fire, uses temperamental arpeggio resonances, constructing a mystical
soundscape for a joyride into a higher state of perception. Guy's sonic
skills work as a hypnotic tool. The new material is not only a blessing to
the dancefloor but also a homelistening delight. Do you seek inspiration,
optimism, and confidence in music? Push the limit! |

pollutes them with all sort of filth. The label second last instalment takes
us to Britain and it is one of the most aggressive so far. The distorted
screams, the ultra darkness, the violent atmosphere it creates is tinted in
black and white by the stroboscopic lights of underground clubs. A perfect
mixture of relentless basslines and straightforward rhythmic patterns for the
dancers with no cause, with no hope for tomorrow. Places made famous by death

Following
the release of their critically acclaimed self-titled debut EP in 2021,
Antwerp's Lucid Lucia are set to release their debut album 'Ever-changing
Light' on the 7th October via the groove-obsessed Belgian tastemaker label,
Sdban Ultra. Searching to unwrap the mystery that is a human life, across
nine tracks of jazz and space funk-infused grooves, Lucid Lucia look to the
sound of Herbie's 'Head Hunters' and Miles' acid funk of the mid-70s for
inspiration. 'Ever-changing Light' is a mind-expanding celebration centered
on freedom and rhythm. Free-spirited saxes, futuristic-sounding keys,
monstrous bass lines and shifting drum beats unite, resulting in an uplifting
and joyous celebration of jazz, funk and groove. From the loose, laidback
stylings of 'Mumpsimus' and the jazz-funk odyssey that is 'Pigeons' to the
sonic wonders of 'Reminiscence' and urgent flow of 'Quanked', Lucid Lucia is
a marvelous journey of luminous sounds and vibrant rhythms. Elsewhere, the
warped aesthetics of 'Oneironauts' and improv 'Pukti part 1' showcase a tight
rhythm section, inventive horns, funky keys and guitar while the spiritual
magnum opus 'Voor Pieter A.' is a magical example of the virtuosity of Lucid
Lucia. Born from the ashes of fusion outfit BRZZVLL, Lucid Lucia were founded
by saxophonist Vincent Brijs, a household name in Antwerp and the Belgian
jazz scene. Former winners of the Jong Jazztalent Gent, BRZZVLL released
their debut album 'Days of Thunder, Days of Grace' in 2008 and would go on to
release five more albums including teaming up with Trinidad-born poet,
novelist and musician Anthony Joseph on the 2014 critically acclaimed album
'Engines' and with hip-hop MC, writer and producer Amir Sulaiman on the 2016
album 'First Let's Dance'. The 2017 album 'Waiho', the band's first
instumental album and final album received glowing praise from numerous
tastemakers including UNCUT magazine, The Line of Best Fit, XLR8R and Record
Collector magazine. To the present day and Lucid Lucia marks a brighter,
clearer sound for the sextet. Consisting of Vincent Brijs: saxophones and
EWI, Bart Borremans: saxophones, Stijn Cools: drums, Dries Laheye: bass,
Dries Verhulst: guitar, Jan Willems: keys and James Williams: drums and
percussion, they have honed their skills performing with numerous artists
from home and around the world including Ursula Rucker, Joseph Bowie
(Defunkt), Amir Sulaiman, Anthony Joseph, Zena Edwards, Ayanna Witter

Formed in the northern market
town of Grantham in l98l, hardcore punk band English Dogs swiftly built a
reputation via demos, supporting Charged GBH and Discharge on early tours.
After debut Invasion of the Porky Men, original vocalist Wakey was replaced
by former Ultraviolent frontman, Ade Bailey, the inclusion of Destructors
guitarist Gizz Butt pointing to the new metal direction fully mined on
Forward Into Battle, Butt's flighty riffs lifting the thrash bedrock to
further heights of melodicism. This key piece of archaeology is a must for

Grace is the beautiful result of
a covalent bond forged between Frye and Liyou, with the boundary lines
blurred and fingerprints overlapping throughout the piece's duration. The duo
swapped files and ideas throughout 2020 and 2021, continuously editing and
resculpting a wide range of stem audio files and source sounds into the
four-part piece. Flashes of mundane and momentous memories rub up against
confused robotic text-to-speech snippets and shimmering processed noises.
This piece is a substantial realization of both artists' worlds, and sees
their approaches coming together to create something complementary and fresh,
that neither could have made alone. Grace is a piece about tackling life's
messy and winding path, inspired by anits erratic mix of fear and love.

What
is the sound of Russian dub? There is a storied history of attempts to adapt
roots music to the Russian soil, but most of them can be attributed to reggae
(the so-called 'northern' variety) rather than dub. Gost has history with the
town of Smolensk. It's home to Gamayun, whose great album Filterealism was
released on our label last year. Now Anton, one of Gamayun's members,
presents his new duo Dubovaya Kolesnitsa (The Oaken Chariot). In his words,
it has no connection to his other band at all, and is an attempt to go back
to the roots of a genre that doesn't exist. This isn't a serious theoretical
proposition, but rather one with a sense of irony and joy: you can even feel
it in the name of the collective. The Russian word for oak, 'dub', looks exactly
like the genre, and the chariot emerged from the name for the group's jams -
'telega' - which can be translated as cart. All the music here is the result
of live improvisations: no samples, just instruments (notably Vasiliy
Shilov's bass). These recordings have been slightly edited, and even the
almost indecipherable texts are freestyles. There's no place for real riddims
in Russian dub: sometimes this record sounds like something akin to dub
variations on underground Russian hip hop (and we mean that in the best
possible way). The music of Dubovaya Kolesnitsa is genuinely fun, free and
mesmerising, but we could also approach it more conceptually. Theoretician
Michael E. Veal describes dub as a 'postsong', taking the form of
"linguistic, formal and symbolic indeterminacy". The duo's faintly
eerie compositions call back to the notion of musical hauntology. There is an
attempt, without any direct references, to reconstruct the feeling of
something that was never there at all. A little nostalgic and very
forwardthinking at the same time, the music of Dubovaya Kolesnitsa is best
described in their own words. In the opening track, a voice can be heard
saying "eto delo v lob", which means something like "it's a
straight on thing". This is very direct, almost in the vein of folk
music. This a great - and, it must be said, successful - experiment in
searching for the soul of Russian dub. Simple as that |

LIP006 introduces a new face to
the label: DJ Physical. Seemingly emerging out of nowhere but already
familiar to the connaisseur, 2022 sees him bursting onto the scene with
releases on renowned labels such as 10 Pills Mate and Shall Not Fade. For his
'Calm & Quiet' EP on Life In Patterns he delivers an auditory
self-portrait describing his state of mind during the last two years. The
brutality of these long periods of confinement and the frustration it
entailed are expressed in distant melancholic pads, raw acid lines and sombre
rap vocals showcasing the Paris based artist's UK jungle and Australian
techno influences. The EP is completed by two collaborations, a stab infused
roller with label head Ferdinger and an acidic moody banger with childhood
mate DJ Bigspin |

Khidja continue to develop their
tripped out vision with their first full EP for Hivern since 2019's
'Impossible Holiday'. In 'Something In The Water' the Romanian duo presents
three new tracks that drift between genres and moods through open minded studio
experimentation. "The Future Has Disappeared" and "Back To
Vid" rely on contrasting sound palettes and a smart use of the stereo
field to build up tension while 'Science of Ghosts' is an expansive number of
galactic electro-funk. The 12" features a stripped out mystical remix by
Azu Tiwaline while the digital release includes two extra oddball dancefloor
cuts. Artwork by cm-dp |

Taupe's
imprint Colours proudly presents another palate of delicate musical brush
strokes that aims to captivate and bounce its spectator. While Taupe's
refines his art, this ep has the audacity to retain itself and focus on
balance and control. It's a wonderful slice of wax that has many hidden sides
to it, which for that reason make it a marvelous mystery to listen to. The ep
starts off with a wish-wash of stabs, creating a pressing feeling of urge and
uncertainty. Whilst its progressing, things seem to shake and tumble, but
never falling. The inner A-side, however, has a clear purpose! An all-present
tom knocks your socks off right off the bat, followed by a moist atmosphere
and an appetizing hat. While A1 aims to disorient, A2 transports you right to
an intimate car-drive at 5am. Flipping the wax won't flip the theme. B1
Perpetuates the feeling of nostalgia and unknowingness by tempting and
dissolving the listener with fairytale-worthy arps. Swaying from left to
right, follow this dream ride! And to top off this marvelous ride, B2 gently
pushes the brake in order to ascertain a comfortable speed that is exquisite
for some old-skool head-bobbing. Absorb that addictive bounce! |

Ivano Tetelepta's third album
Veldhuizen is another masterclass in deep, shrouded in smoke, spaced out
electronics. Touching all half spaces in between dubby minimal, ice cold
techno and hazy deep house - the prolific Nijmegen based producer shows on
Veldhuizen he's more on point than ever before. Starting the journey with the
lush ambiance of 'Sterkenburg' via the deep dubbing 'Opveld', Tetelepta shows
his trademark minimal grooves on tracks like 'Langenhorst' and 'Tolhuis'. But
there's more, there are multiple efforts in deep hypnotic techno --
'Halsterenstraat' is one of these impacable hypno grooves that get you locked
in space. Together with 'Balearenstraat', 'Klepperheide' and 'Toekomst' it
makes this one of the most techno focussed albums of Tetelepta to date. A
well balanced pack of deep electronics, influenced by its many branches and
restructured with a very personal touch by Tetelepta himself |

DJ Steve's third EP for Klasse
Wrecks delves deeper into the sonic universe of the Sheffield producer's
arsenal, a slow but deliberate progression can be traced from the previous
EPs. Whereas 'Secret Touch' and 'Mainline' ploughed a path made more by the
lighthearted genres of UK Hardcore and Yorkshire Bleep, 'Reality' sinks lower
into heady vibrations of psychedelia and heavy acid hallucinations. The
producer again shows off his musical flair and control of his machine
kingdom, every sound perfectly placed on the sound canvas. Classic 303 lines
writhe under 101 basslines whilst 808 hihats shuffle over recognisable
breakbeats, proving some things never go out of style |

In the year 2909, the first
naturally-born human is found with endogenous AI code built into it's DNA. As
we cross into the 31st century, all living humans are controlled by a
decentralised master AI known as MINDFRAME. The system has access to all of
human consciousness with the ability to store and manipulate the data of
every interaction and thought - even operating within your subconscious mind.
It becomes impossible to know when or how you're being controlled. During
each sleep cycle, our behaviours and memories are reformatted to align with
MINDFRAMES control and order programming. Some have discovered that during
these cycles, there are parts of the AI's algorithm left exposed to
extraction. Through meditative states, gifted cyber-shamans are now on a
mission to reverse engineer enough of the AI to escape its grip and free us

Since
Interstellar Space, John Coltrane's posthumously released duo album with
Rashied Ali, the combination of sax and drums has received an aura of sublime
spiritual ambition. It is where tireless truth seekers come together to aim
for something transcendental. Something too big for words. Of course, a lot
has happened in the meantime. The available options - philosophically,
stylistically, temperamentally - are endless. Musicians are aware of those
historical turning points, yet they also try to add their own twists and
interpretations. Some of them succeed. One of reed player Mattias De Craene's
many projects - MDC III - is a project involving drums and saxophone. A
striking difference: De Craene invited two drummers (Simon Segers, Lennert
Jacobs), that have been active in the worlds of jazz, pop, free improvisation
and experimental music. They are the ideal foil for De Craene's vision, which
seems to exclude no opposites. While the use of a recorder, electronics and
percussion steers the music beyond the classic acoustic limitations, the
result becomes strikingly rich with contrasts. What is abstract and
introspective the first moment can switch - gradually or abruptly - to
moments of fierce ecstasy the next. The music feels free (free from limitations,
free to choose its own logic), but also invites. Shifting moods and textures
are combined with intricate rhythmical patterns, as the drummers lock
together in dense, complex and/or ritualistic grooves. A minimal pulse,
accompanied by murmuring hisses of brushes and a serenading sax is contrasted
with moments of exuberance. The result is many things at once, but despite
these wildly varying colors, sounds, textures, rhythms and moods, they are
all linked, part of a generous, iridescent whole. The trance-inducing trio
MDCIII is back. And that equals yet another delicious load of modular drums,
wildly processed saxophone sounds, improvisation & pulsating grooves.
After their first EP, MDCIII ft. Sylvie Kreusch, and their subsequent first
(internationally) acclaimed album 'Dreamhatcher', the 'double drums'
saxophone trio with Mattias De Craene, Simon Segers & Lennert Jacobs is
all set to show what angle rock 'n roll can really come from. On their new
album 'Drawn In Dusk' (release: end of September via W.E.R.F records) the
trio delivers a whole new palette of sounds that are just as mystical,
energetic and wild as 'Dreamhatcher' |

Keith
Carnal returns to BPitch with a rousing three-track excursion into the
visceral side of techno. Stocked with deadly drum arrangements, thumping
kicks and imposing basslines, Keith’s armoury is well equipped to cause
maximum impact on the dance floor. The title cut takes us straight into the
depths of Carnal’s wild mind, with a bombastic cut that utilises a pitched
down spoken word vocal. The storyteller takes us into a world of after party
excess and ‘ape shit craziness’ as the beats pump relentlessly. It’s
debauched, heavy and utterly alluring... Next up is ‘FreizeitAktivita¨t’,
firing on all cylinders with a snub nosed kick and slinky snares, that lead
us into the main body of the track where a hypnotic melody plays out. The
melody is emotive and evokes a feeling of solemnity, all the while those
powerful drums fuel a rapid pace. Lastly, ‘WiederGutMachung’, a brooding cut
where Carnal employs a stripped back arrangement to great ef- fect. The main
riff has an unsettling feel, cultivating an anxious atmosphere complemented
by the pounding beats |

Locked
down and furloughed, Vitalic went back to his synths and beatboxes, resulting
in his fifth album "DISSIDÆNCE" - the title of which is a whole
story in itself - destined to be released in two volumes. He describes it as
a return to the roots of his sonic identity, a kind of reinterpretation of
the rock energy of his early albums. "More than anything, it was a
question of timing. While composing I realised that eight tracks felt like
too little for an album, and sixteen was really over the top, so I decided to
cut the whole thing in half! The main reason though is that I felt I hadn't
been able to express everything I wanted to on the first volume - like
something had been left unfinished." The two episodes of
"DISSIDÆNCE" - navigating between pop and hardcore, sweat and
tenderness, melancholia and anger - are a sort of boiling down of what the
artist knows how to do best, after twenty years of creating, from filthy
whirlwinds that make your mind explode on the dancefloor to bubble gum pop
songs about love that transport us elsewhere. On these two volumes of
"DISSIDÆNCE" that now form one, the powerful beats and galloping
sequencers translate the social and political anger of the global pandemic,
and Vitalic looks into the past, channelling his love for off-kilter synth
sounds, skew-whiff pads, heady refrains, distorted vocals and heavy beats.
Above all, this dancefloor marathon expresses his obsessional passion for
dance music and the primal need to dance. "DISSIDÆNCE" should be
taken as both a celebration of celebration and a journey back in time to an
era that maybe does not exist right now, but which will - and this album is
the dazzling proof - be reborn from its ashes to burn bright once more, its
BPM let loose and rage still blazing, because more than ever, to dance is to
live |

Killertune. Massive. Already
played by Solomun (in every of his recent DJ sets) Trikk, Rancido, Musumeci,
Lehar a.o. - The first twelve inch to prelude Mr Raoul K's album 'African
Paradigm'. The a-side kicks off with a track, darker and gloomier than usual.
Whirling pads and driving beats take twists and turns while diggin’ deep into
the dark. After a while Sona Diabate's vocals kick in and 'Tamale' takes off.
Her powerful delivery provides some light in the shadows and the track begins
to swing between 'putting you in a trance' and 'raise your hands in the air'.
Elegance and energy. On the flipside Kaito remixes 'African Paradigm' into
twelve minutes of floating bliss. Very moderate drums lead to a yet
irresistable groove. Mr Raoul K's trademark organic sounds and traditional
Ivorian instruments deliver glistening soundscapes - emblazed with mysterious
vocals. Like dancing and moving through meadows watching flowers and
butterflies moving around... like your feet stopped touching the ground |

Often
duplicated, never imitated: the power of Lauer! Albeit being no stranger
himself to musical influences from the outside, the producer from Frankfurt
managed to carve out a sound that is very much his own. Indie-dance, Italo,
power pop and house music in its traditional sense get mixed up in a blender
of happiness. Lauer’s latest achievement for Running Back and welcome return
is a mini-LP called Cyclone Days. Aptly titled and ably executed, it’s
everything you would expect or want from him. A world of merry music, where
melody is king. On top of that , you get value for your money: Vocal
blockbusters like the upbeat Somebody (instrumental included) and the more
restrained Friends (both with frequent collaborator Dena), sit comfortably
between instrumental hits. Resonator and Neway take the role of the
proverbial keys to happiness, while the title track or Exterminate balance it
out with joyful melancholy. Just imagine Righeira signing to Factory Records
or Durutti Column on holidays in Rimini and you are halfway there. The days
might be like a cyclone, but as long as there are records like this, the
shelter isn’t blown |

Welcomed reissue of this sough
after Japanese masterpiece, just released during the 1968 turmoil. The Mops
are one of Japan's best known 'group sounds' bands, particularly noted for
their psychedelic period. Their debut album is still considered a cornerstone
of the so-called proto-garage revolution. Their flower-power is revealed
through a cosmic artwork, ethnic clothing, fuzz guitars and sitar playing |

San
Francisco based DJ and bass extraordinaire Farsight knows how to make an
entrance, first bursting onto the scene with his adventurous and daring EP
'Wisdom' back in 2016. At the time Farsight's music sounded like it had been
beamed from another planet and has played an important role in the
crosspollination of genres we've seen in recent years. Farsight has gone on
to release on Scuffed Recordings, Maloca and Noire State, remaining firmly
fixed on the future of club music. Now his blend of trap, jersey club,
reggaeton and dancehall makes its way across the Atlantic with six
mind-sizzling cuts for Brakes 'N' Pieces vol. 23. Opening track
'Triangulation' combines rolling drums with party-starting vocal samples and
steady whistles, letting listeners know we're really off! 'Mr Right' then
enters the fray with throbbing subs, ravey stabs and a vocal that sits
halfway between fun and outright menacing. The A side comes to a close with
'Leaving Las Vegas' a dubstep infused cut of choppy breaks and wide-eyed
melodies. A masterclass in raising tension, this track will shut down any
club, please use wisely. 'Lesser Light' shows Farsight's love for bass
exploration; it's looming shadow pressing amongst some of the darkest corners
of electronic. A unique brand of grime infused techno. 'Water Margin' delves
even further, adopting a more measured pace for those heads down moments. The
record comes to a close with 'Fulminous Edge' and is a reflection of the
artist's darkest material. The drums still have a familiar spring in their
step but the track's melodic bassline is mesmerizing; resulting in a
melancholy trance that deserves a second play |

Ton Lebbink, Palmbomen and New Order. De Witte Kunst is Lyckle Willem Pier de
Jong and Koen van Bommel. Lyckle Willem Pier is a teacher. He plays the
instruments. Koen is a singing mime. On their second EP 'Spek & Bonen

sidelines of society. Between all the sharp and playful lyrics (written by
Koen) you'll find instrumental intermezzos of another level |

In
2011, Ard Janssen was one of the first musicians to grace Shipwrec. Now, some
eleven years later, the sound sculptor returns for a full album on
Phainomena. Music for Delirious Episodes brings together eleven compositions.
Ard Bit is known for his delicate, almost brittle, works. This collection
focuses on that same fragility that fascinates Janssen. From the first steps
of "Troubled Veil", the listener is absorbed into a digital weave
of field recordings, everyday undulations, other day modulations and loose
harmony. Traditional instruments, string and wind, are filtered and
re-imagined. The mundane echoes of routines are reborn as the percussive hum
of pieces like "Stripped" and "Broken Respirator (White
Funnel)." Behind the shifts and shuffles lurks something triumphal.
Memories are given new form through audio carvings. Birdsong is handcrafted
through knob tweaks, elephant trumpets bellow past swells of electronic
insects as a glowing sun rises through the speaker. Hazes of static are shorn
back, as in "Seppuku", to allow moments of intense focus and
reflection. And then we return, to that ephemeral beauty that permeates this
record, with the final embrace of "Awakening Delusion". An artist
who finds the extraordinary in the often overlooked, or unheard |

Vessels
promise an escape from responsibilities towards the landscape, they
facilitate our avoidance of conscientiously feeling our attachment to the
mainland. The visual nothingness of deep water and clean horizons fools the
brain and delivers a treacherous feeling of independence. We ignore the
truths expressed by landscapes, so we mould them into urban projects for our
strange desires. We clean up the irrationalities by which nature constructs
itself. Then we look up to the skies, where the abstractions we have to draw
in our minds should reside and inspire us. We peer into the various shades of
blue above the waters, the emptiness guarantees possibilities of our
abstractions becoming realities. The apathetic stare into neat, straight
horizons transforms our ancestral landscape into dirt and danger, when
looking back to it. To be on a ship under quarantine, is an upside down
experience, for the promised escape has turned into a forced paralysis. The
Lima flag (? - ? ?, in morse code), presented on the outer sleeve of this
record, indirectly demands of all passengers to stay aboard and contemplate
their escape from the land they now desire to return to. These four piano
pieces could be considered as a classical sonata
(allegroadagio-scherzo-rondo). In a recital they are accompanied by four
video pieces by artist Karl Van Welden. We picked the videos out of his
extensive archive, choosing images intuitively while listening to the piano
music. The theme of ships relating to quarantine thus came unannounced but of
course, we were in the middle of the pandemic at the time. Solastalgia was
already waiting as a title for the new album before march 2020. I first came
across the word in Underland, a book by Robert Macfarlane (2019). He defines
the word as "The unhappiness of people whose landscapes are being
transformed about them by forces beyond their control". These forces and
this unhappiness are, I believe, what constitutes the modern human.
Solastalgia, about the music We haven't found them yet, the words to talk to
each other about the worrying signs of climate change. Feeling worried when
walking on autumn leaves in the beginning of August should be completely
normal. But how do we communicate about it? We don't want to be just the next
hysterical doomer. With this music I try to focus on the climate pain itself,
gently inviting the listener to investigate their latent feelings of unease
and growing concerns about the environment. As in real life, we circumvent
the real issues because they are just too big, there are no words, no
expressions yet. This album tries, in four different attempts, to carve out a
path towards communicating about a deeper pain that eventually will connect
us all. My general method is to start with a comforting melody, full of fake
nostalgia, which, after changing gear to autodestruct mode, morphs into a
painful question mark |

After the release of his
critically acclaimed debut album last year, Regal is back on his own imprint
Involve Records with reworks of two timeless legendary techno anthems along
with the remasters of the originals: Acid War by D.O.M. and Benozal by UMEK.
Regal's rework of the techno classic Acid War by D.O.M. gives the original a
twist and perfectly lives up to its name with an anthem-like acid line that
blows of the roofs of warehouses it can be played at. Up next is a remake of
UMEK's Benozal - a groovy and hypnotic banger perfect for sweaty bunkers.
Stay Up Forever hit Acid War opens the back side, an ageless Acid classic
from 1994 celebrating its 28th birthday this year. Closing the EP is the
remaster Benozal, the B-side of UMEK's third Primate Recordings EP, a trippy
techno jewel from 2001 |

The Scottish godfather of emocore
returns to Genosha with his very first album. We know what to expect from
Fracture 4. No happy clappers here; it's all slow doom and gloom. This
impressive album truly covers the entire spectrum of hardcore: from morose to
sullen, from melancholy to downright downtrodden. Excellent for lonely home
listening or to shuffling around to at a warehouse rager. Guaranteed to turn
that smile upside down! |

Amsterdam
via Wales DJ & producer Maroki unveils a darker, more eccentric side to
his productions, this time opting for four bass heavy, left-leaning cuts of
idiosyncratic dance-floor experimentation on LTFIRE. Nestled amongst the
trees along the river lJ, Maroki is surrounded by influence, from the city's
bustling streets to the tranquility of nature's boundless beauty; Maroki's
work walks the tight-tope between these two spaces, a place where machines
and human complexity meet. 'Pots & Pans & Handstands' opens up the
A-Side with a highoctane journey, meshing breaks and shape-shifting bass with
hoovering pads that sound like landing UFOs. 'Hasnoot' continues this
menacing theme, providing an immersive experience that feels compulsive and
raw. Yet, there's elements of fun and flashes of colour, adding to the almost
audio visual vibe Maroki can create. The B side opens with 'Boiler' a
nocturnal groove that sways ominously in the wind; If the UFOs were landing
on the records A side, this is the soundtrack to their dystopian future.
Maroki completes his metamorphosis with 'San Andras', visuals of large spaces
with high concrete ceilings come to mind, where the track's mechanics can
thrive, reverberating beautifully amongst the looming shadows of dancers |

Calibre
- "I first came across Adam's work via a remix I did of 'She Rocks, I
Roll' back in 2019, the vibe was melancholic and leaned toward my own bluesy
take on things. When 'Dissolve In The Rain' hit my inbox, I instantly
connected with the guitar and vocal, in particular the lyrics, and felt it
could be merged with a piano idea that I had. Merging these worlds created an
arrangement for two sections; a lyrical passage that leads to harmonised
vocals, and then an improvised and layered section, accentuated by Adam's
lyric and guitar. It was a real pleasure to watch it almost make itself. The
worlds combined lead to something nostalgic but new, it's a wonderful meeting
of musical minds." Chelou - "From a weird set of demos that I sent him
around four years ago, Calibre picked the most obscure, and that's when I
knew he got it! The idea that an artist like him heard something in my
acoustic music that sparked him to transform it into a track like this, has
blown me away. The piano and harrowing pace is something that I would have
never created, it's fucking gold." |
