for Noisia. This resulted in an extensive journey that took us through a lot
of new ideas and music. Although we eventually decided to stop, we are proud
of the things we made along the way, and these tunes were always meant to be

Next
up in our 7” vinyl series, Honey C aka the late great Philippe Van Mullem and
Bonzai stalwart Philippe Toutlemonde, delight with two seminal vocal trance
tracks – Stop (The Disease) and Desire. Housed on light blue colour 7” vinyl,
both tracks were first released in 1993 on the Houze Factory imprint before
Stop (The Disease) was snapped up on the legendary Bonzai Trance Progressive
in 1997 with a raft of remixes in tow. Desire would make an appearance on
Bonzai Classics Digital in 2007, cementing its status as a retro gem. The 2
Philippe's were pioneers of that vocal trance sound and their project Quadran
gave rise to the vocal melodic trance scene which still resonates to this
day. Between them they notched up quite a few cuts with aliases and groups
such as Innertales, Extreme Trax, Oudja and The Gaps among their repertoire.
The A side features the original mix of Stop (The Disease) which intros with
a classic build up and explosion before an eerie, almost cinematic sequence
takes over. The melodies soon become prevalent as a tight drum section keeps
the rhythm flowing. A pulsing bassline holds the track together beautifully
as that infectious vocal takes over the groove. On the flip side the Club Mix
of Desire resides, taking us into an energy driven experience that sends the
nostalgia juices flowing. Classic gated synths stand out as a powerful
bassline drives the groove. The vocal is catchy and inviting, striking a
perfect balance in the groove. 2 solid cuts for the collectors of fine beats |

attempt to achieve the sound of the Sonics first album with extra raw drums
recorded live in Long Beach Ca. Shawn Medina (bass player) did all the guitar
playing aside from Wic Coleman (close friend and honorary member), the solo
for 'Velve'- on a big box 100watt JMP Marshall and 1968 Burns Bison. Johnny
had left the band after co-writing and performing most of the songs on this
album. 'Action' was written with the plans to have Poison Ivy play the lead.
It was discussed, but never became a reality. Todd Youth (formerly of

Futuristic
synthesizer specialist and sound designer Matsuo Ohno was responsible for the
sound design of a broad range of film, television and radio soundtracks, most
famously the animation series Astro Boy, which he began working on in 1963,
together with his assistant, Takehisa Kosugi. Ohno was born in the
heavily-populated Kanda district of central Tokyo in 1930 and was heavily
affected by the repeated bombing raids on the city enacted in World War II,
which took place during his formative years. After the War, deeply motivated
by philosophy and Surrealism, he was largely unaffected by popular music,
other than the electronic abstractions of Karlheinz Stockhausen, the
left-wing filmmaker Fumio Kamei was another early influence. Ohno began
immersing himself in the realm of sound effects while working with the
Bungaku-za modernist theatre troupe and he performed a similar function at
NHK, Japan's national broadcasting corporation, but became so frustrated by
the rigidity of the restrictions imposed on him there that he quit his
prestigious post at the broadcaster, although his skills were such that he
remained in high demand as a freelancer, which allowed him to refine his
sound effects techniques with evolving analogue synthesizers. The five suites
of tracks that make up the album Roots Of Electronic Sound album were
recorded between 1963 and 1966, initially released on the ALM label in 1975,
it is comprised of brief tape experiments, the cover artwork fittingly
representing Astro Boy, from which many of the audio interludes are taken |

Crashed Out was formed in the
mid-90s in Jarrow, a town near Newcastle (UK) by 4 young kids aged 15/16.
They were Lee on guitar, Gary on vocals, Spanner on drums and Geordie on
bass. They released their debut single 'Memories of Saturday/Fight Back!' in 1995
with Hammer Records (also a English label) and at the end of this year, they
released their first great album 'This is our music' on CD, also with Hammer
Records, while appearing on various Oi!/Punk compilations such as 'More
Working Class Anthems' with bands like Section 5, Resistance 77 or Superyob.
Here we have, 25 years later and for the first time on vinyl 'This is our
music' This reissue includes a couple of bonus tracks taken from

Harvey
McKay steps up for his first EP on Second State with 3 tracks of high rolling
techno in ‘Oberon EP’. Glasgow’s Harvey McKay adds Second State to his
already brimming back catalog with ‘Midnight’ EP, featuring 3 driving and
grooving cuts. A hard-hitter in Scotland’s techno scene, Harvey regularly
appears at international hotspots including Space Ibiza, Awakenings and
fabric, to name a few. The opening track ‘Midnight’ is high-spirited yet dark
and energetic, creating a more stripped back style of McKay production. A
booming reverberating kick dances with scattered hi-hats and a low slung
bouncing synth to create a deep & dusky atmosphere. Ascending keys keep
the tension tight and high along with solitary stabs that whine and wring out
over the main groove. ‘Oberon’ begins with a dappled kick and solitary hi-hat
layered upon minimal pads which are soon buried by a hypnotic, marching churn
and percussive wails. These elements are gradually bound together to create
the base of the track, with intermittent breakdowns that allow the pads and
wails to break through and add depth. As the track develops, the major notes
intensify and are brought to the forefront with a cyclic sample that's teased
out, but never allowed to fully burst through the chaos. McKay rounds up with
a relentless piece of techno in ‘Elves Playground’. A revolving metallic
texture twirls over the booming kick to create a playful element in this cut
before a deep and brooding drone takes control. As the devilish track
progresses, the buzzing drone is toned down and injected back with ferocious
vigor each time. A driving and textured production with clever minimal rave
elements that are guaranteed to get you moving |

There

Joey Beltram has played a pivotal role in the growth of the techno sound that
gestated in Detroit and was lapped up in Europe during those early years.
Beltram spearheaded a darker sound that became a staple in the UK and
European rave scene in the early 90s, and a sound that continues to come back
around for revival and a new twist on the genre from the producers and DJs of
the day. ‘Beltram Volume 2’ was first released on R&S Records in 1991,
and despite the huge success of the ‘Energy Flash’ single, released a year
prior, ‘Volume 2’, some say, is ‘Beltram’s definitive release on R&S’.
Deep, dark and deliciously hypnotic, all four cuts on this EP still sound as raw
and devastating 30 years later. Big tunes at seminal clubs like Rage (Fabio
& Grooverider) and the network of UK raves soundtracked by the likes of
Carl Cox, Colin Faver, Eddie Richards et al, Beltram’s unique sound help
spawn the bass heavy drum & bass genre that was also burgeoning at the
time. ‘Beltram Volume 2’ has been remastered by Beau Thomas at Ten Eight
Seven Mastering, and the release comes in an updated sleeve, faithfully
recreating the 1991 packaging featuring Christel Brodahl’s now legendary oil

Lotus
Eater is a duo consisting of Luca Mortellaro (Lucy) and Seth Horvitz (Rrose),
techno artists just as comfortable operating in the uncharted area of
experimental music who have gained a cult following, both influencing and
challenging the direction of contemporary electronic music. Eschewing the
typical instrumentation of techno but still inhabiting its archetypes, Lotus
Eater uses synthesised sound and feedback as fundamental sources to generate
both textural and percussive elements. A sense of tension and weight emerge
from sources that cannot be easily pinpointed. Each release forms a complex
narrative from a paradoxically simple and restrained set of sound sources.
Officially formed in 2017, Lotus Eater came to life through several
collaborations over a number of years, and finally blossomed with the release
of its critically acclaimed debut album "Desatura," which Lotus
Eater toured live in 2018 - 2019. 2022 sees the release of the second Lotus
Eater album "Plasma" and a new audiovisual live project to
accompany it. "Plasma" unfolds with exacting precision by
exhibiting a point of focus and expanding on it. It uses a single, throbbing
pulse to generate a constellation of sounds and rhythms that form around it like
a volcanic eruption in slow motion. Playing with our sense of time and
weight, "Plasma" feels simultaneously slow and urgent, spacious and
immense. Lotus Eater zooms into the infinite abyss and finds not just light,
but fire at the end of the tunnel. Will we be saved, or will we burn? |

Belgium's
'Raving George' dispenses of her alias on her debut ep for Turbo Recordings
as Charlotte de Witte. The 23 year-old Studio Brussel resident DJ has quickly
made a name for herself following EPs on Bad Life and a massively successful
collaboration with Oscar & The Wolf (which actually sold 15k copies in
Belgium alone). Shedding her alias here, Charlotte shows she's ready for
prime-time with this expertly crafted EP of big-room techno. Lead track
'Weltschmerz' sounds like an instant Berghain classic; dark, massive, trippy,
and with an emotional character all too rare within the genre. The kicks are
banging, the verbed out percussion is fierce, and it all moves around a
haunting melodic breakdown that artfully dances on the right side of 'progressive.'
It's a killer track that perfectly sets the tone for the whole record.
'Damage Control' is a straightforward flex-a-thon, a housier rhythm that
struts along confidently. The technical term is 'floor-filler.' 'Lonesome'
brings the emotion back, with it's super-tense, unresolved melodies, this is
perfect for all your mega-club yearning & gurning needs. 'Relatives of
None' is the nastiest of the bunch, and probably the most at home on Turbo,
built around a screechy synth hook. Finally, 'Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme)'
provides an epic ambient outro, crystallizing the emotional tones of the EP
and establishing a sense of artistic vision that ascends well beyond the
pedestrian |
