Few
locales on Earth are as integral to the development of black death metal than
Brazil. A breeding ground of extreme 80s deathcore, the classic Brazilian
bands arguably laid the groundwork for the second wave of black metal, and in
doing so helped to introduce this infamous genre to the masses. GENOCIDIO,
formed in 1986 in Sao Paolo, provide a textbook example of power and
intensity that became synonymous with Brazilian black metal. THE GRAVE
compiles their obscure 1988 EP with several bonus live tracks and demos.
Maniacal speed and thematic mayhem are on display here, each track driven by
the fury of pure psychic id. Parallels can be drawn to SEXTRASH, VULCANO, and
SARCOFAGO, but GENOCIDIO manage to harness this brand of Brazilian chaos with
exceptionally tight riffing and a penchant for heavy, guttural violence.
Composed in an era before black and death metal became subjects of sectarian
metal enmity, bands like GENOCIDIO managed to create their art from a truly
fresh perspective that was untainted by external influence. These recordings
belong to an important musical heritage whose influence reverberated
throughout the globe, and can still be felt today. In a just world, this
vinyl edition of THE GRAVE will finally endow this recording the worship it

How do you get 'in the box'? Gal
Tsadok-Hai knows. After some experiments with hardware, the Amsterdam-based
electronic producer recently went back to his first love: computer composing.
Thus keeping open all the options. Footsteps is his first EP for SoHaSo,
filled with four tracks of adventurous, left-field explorations in rhythm and
melody. cl_forwardspeed 5 is dominated by sub low baslines and razor blade
rhythms, while mp_footsteps 1 nods more towards early Aphex Twin and the IDM
trickery from last century. Flip the record for max_smokepuffs 999, on which
Gal Tsadok- Hai proves he can also bring a straight four-four to great
heights. It is both spacious and tense, which makes for a great combination.
On closer sv_gravity 0 it's back to the days when melody was still the
default in most techno and electro. If you like the abstract machine funk
from Dopplereffekt, this might just be right up your alley |

After Psychiatre's previous
electro-focused Lost Palms release proved his artistic malleability, his
latest sees him return to his signature sound. NMAV EP radiates warmth; music
that sits back into itself, and invites its listener to do just the same. It
begins with three deep house soothers, the first taking disco as its
springboard, and the rest stripping it right back to a minimal,
soul-caressing effect. On the B-side the sun doesn't stop shining, except
this time Psychiatre injects a healthy dose of acid and the groove of a

Kings of UK Thrash Hassle Bastards were basically Chumbawamba in wind up mode

Thrusting
mightly, like a craggy Nightside Eclipse encrusted in crumbling punk
nihilism, this album rarely relents. As the work of a single man, A Spell...
is a nearly/obsessive vision of destruction *as well as its ca/thartic wake(,
but is devoid of theatrics and posturing. Xos- screams of vitriol fully
embace the human&animal primalism that condemns our very existence, and
his command of the riff is as organic as it is supreme. The ballsy, blackpunk
sneer that climaxes @Longing Is All That Will Remain@ again spews nothing but
honesty, albeit through mouthfuls of strained sinew and shards of bone. The
nonstop venom that volcanoes from the core of @I See No Civilization@ is of
unmatched potency, instigating volume cranks and neck fractures with ease.
Woe takes the @depressive@ tag that has been glued to State/side blackness
for the past few years and turns its head on an axis.. While the deliberate
torture of the closing track,@Memento Mori,@ sludges things up *down(, it
sounds almost anti/climactic when stacked against the rest of this white/hot
tome. A Spell For The Death of Man is easily 2008-s most criminally
overlooked album, and is quite simply the most important black metal release
in years//not by virtue of perfection, but of relevance. A new dawn is upon

after-hours. On the flip you'll find two exclusive remixes from Kirk's
'Communion' album on De:tuned. Ian o'Brien showcases his vast musical talent
and opens up his soul with a warm and lengthy retake of 'The Ladder'. Luke
Slater debuts strongly on De:tuned and provides a rare The 7th Plain remix of
'Absorption Spectra'. Luke's take is a sentimental and lush ambient techno
interpretation where its unique sound oscillates between a melancholic state
of nostalgia and modern escapism. Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja
Tune) created all the graphic work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis and
pressed on 180 gr vinyl. A separate digital release will also be available at

The punk anarchists Any Act
return to Tram Planet with a 5-track slaughter, Viebe Po Bratski. Picking up
from where they left off with their previous release, Ne Boyat'sya, they draw
from the sweatiest corners of the club to deliver an electro EBM beat down.
The opening heater 'Gypsy Man' brings other-worldly sounds to a punishing
electro breaks hybrid. In case you weren't awake, 'Nahuy' summons the
distorted depths of screaming vocals and sub splitting kicks for a wake up
call. 'Amo Delphino' raises the stakes with whispering samples and crunching
rhythms while the rave punk anthem of 'Mabe' rattles the rafters of the club.
The closing 'Amo Delphino' remix by Cardopusher combines the hardest elements

Rhode Island rock band Cannabis
are another of those fabled groups that were gone in the blink of an eye.
With only an album and a single to their name, issued on the short/lived
Amphion Seahorse label, the band's particular brand of harmonic psychedelia
and keyboard-driven rock deserved a wider audience, as attested by the high
prices afforded original copies of this excellent LP. They're at their best
on songs like "See You In The Morning" and "Sleeping
Bride," both of which display a strong late-period Beatles influence.
Another lost gem that is ripe for rediscovery, of interest to all fans of
melodic, early 0s psych rock |

is back for round two on Dustin Zahn’s Enemy Records with “Cyber Dystopia.”
Marcal’s trademark grooves and clever vocal processing make this one of his
most exciting and hypnotic records yet. It’s pure class…there isn’t much else
to say! BUT we have to try anyway… “Cyber Dystopia” starts off with Bionic
Jungle, a trippy peak time roller sprinkled with uh, lifeforms or something?
We haven’t been able to identify them, which is just proof that Marcal is
living on another planet we haven’t been to yet. We’re standing by for the
invite. Moravex’s Paradox picks up where Bionic Jungle left off…chugging
along in his signature style. It’s loopy. It’s tooly…but still heavy on the
grooves, making it a perfect fit in deep and peak time sets alike. Nothing About
the United States hits a little harder and darker. Dissonant drones and
catchy sound design take over, flipping the switch from “party” to “punish.”
For fans of his recent track on Enemy, “Never Wrote This.” Don’t Fear the
Three is a classic Marcal percussive workout in heads-down mode. It’s as
equally powerful as every other track on the record |

Hailing
from Brussels, Bandler Ching is a creation of musical ideas from composer and
saxophonist Ambroos De Schepper (Kosmo Sound, Azmari and Mos Ensemble).
Flawlessly blending contemporary jazz, electronics, trap, hip-hop and global
beats, the sound is based around the freedom of expression and improvisation
and performed with astounding conviction. With the help of Alan Van Rompuy
(Azertyklavierwerke), Federico Pecoraro (ECHT!) and Olivier Penu (Kel
Assouf), the four idiosyncratic artists come together to express their
musical identity to dazzling effect. After a period of exploration, the
quartet are set to release their debut album 'Coaxial' on the 27th January,
via the groove-obsessed Sdban Ultra label. A hypnotic trip through each band
members' musical fantasies, the band have their roots in jazz. "We start
from Jazz and we give it our own attitude with improvisation and a lot of
freedom and eventually mix it with influences such as electronics, beats,
hip-hop etc," says De Schepper. From the free-spirited beauty of 'You
Call It' and pulsating, loose beats of 'Awpril' to the luminous 'Dag na
Naamdag' inspired by warm winter memories and wild summer dreams, De Schepper
gives the sax a new place in its musical sphere. The album title refers to
the band members' various musical influences that coalesce around one
artistic centre. That centre is 'Coaxial' - a distinct sound with a clear
identity, yet versatile and difficult to catergorise. Elsewhere, the
bass-heavy 'RoodGroen' features Vieze Meisje (performer Maya Mertens) while
the sonoric mayhem of 'Smooch' mutates without border - mischievous, dynamic
and unpredictable at the same time. 'Rave Fever' is rich cataclysm of sound
and rhythm while the intriguing 'You Have Got Me' and album closer 'Kitsune'
showcase the magnetic soundings of Bandler Ching |

start this compilation off with the great duo Stil & Bense. Its a
powerful track in which they manage to combine melodies, a strong drive and a

and one heck of a journey! Boss Axis - Bright Palace
Another classic Boss Axis song! Their tight and effective grooves are
working wonders with a deep bassline and some mesmerizing chord progressions
on top. A must hear for in the club!. Thom Rich - Rhema: Thom Rich manages to
create a wonderful heavenly atmosphere in Rhema. The organic beats and soft
airy pads together with those lovely vocal shots make you feel like you are
drifting on clouds. Halfway there is even a little melodic surprise for you!
Da Beat and Kamilo Sanclemente - Hypnotizing: Hypnotizing is the more
progressive track of the compilation. Very much club oriented, this is one
that will make everyone move their feet for sure! While at the same time
you'll get lost in their captivating synth-work and piano play. Clawz SG -
Dusk to Dawn: Clawz SG is the master of dark and deep melodic techno. Also in
Dusk to Dawn he delivers. Eerie synths float around creating an ominous
atmosphere, strengthened by a deep buzzing bassline. A real masterpiece!
Arjuna Schiks - Solo Mi: Arjuna has a very light and sweet style which he
shows in Solo Mi as well. A typical track which just puts a smile on your
face. His lovely innocent melodies work in perfect symbiosis with a subtle
yet captivating beat. Wonderfully done by Arjuna Schiks! |

Late
Night Tales welcomes back the cult figure and ultimate musical connoisseur,
Bill Brewster to compile his second episode of the curated compilation series
‘After Dark’. An obscure and timeless DJled journey which begins somewhere
out in the near ocean, the waves are rolling and lolling gently into the
shore, while a full moon shines on the surface. It’s only faint, but
somewhere nearby is the sound of bass, pulsing slowly, almost in time to the
waves. Welcome back to ‘After Dark: Nightshift’. Once again Bill Brewster
comes armed with a sensitivity and sense of occasion that few other DJs
possess. Delivering another batch of slow cooked musical stews, making sure
the tempo stays nice and steady and the emphasis is on funk, soul, grits and
corn fried chicken, Brewster has done so much digging, Late Night Tales had
to hire a forklift truck and tractor. Among the unreleased nuggets, there’s
the Fernando mix of The Detachments; inordinate excitement about Gino
Fontaine, a tune spotted a year ago but has languished in Andy Meecham’s
Stafford catacombs ever since. Also unearthed are some hitherto secret
recordings between Robert Fripp and The Grid, and there are also some proper
club faves here, too, like the daft but brilliant ‘Mopedbart’ by Hubbabubbaklubb
and the luminous ‘Boutade’ by Mugwump, as well as killer oldies like Salsoul
Invention and General Lee. BACKGROUND: Late Night Tales invites the world’s
best artists to delve deep into their music collections to create the
ultimate "late night” selection. The series features expertly curated
mixes by MGMT, Friendly Fires, The Flaming Lips, Metronomy, Groove Armada,
The Cinematic Orchestra, Four Tet, Belle & Sebastian, Jamiroquai,
Midlake, Arctic Monkeys and many more to artists. Afterdark is its quirky and
mischievious sibling, born in 2013 with a
criticallyacclaimed debut speared by Bill Brewster, its a timeless
journey into the history of the dancefloor. Originally a chef, a football
pundit (coeditor of fanzine When Saturday Comes) and record collector, Bill
began DJing in in the late 80s, but he cut his teeth playing Low Life
warehouse parties in Harlem and the East Village and anyone hearing Bill
today can see how these New York ‘roots’ shine through. For eclecticism,
surprises, amazing unique music and sheer longhaul dedication to the
dancefloor; Bill’s your man. So, put your glad rags on, the glittery boots
with the worrying heels, and some sparkly makeup. Girls, you can wear what

of the release of Honey Dijon’s upcoming remix album ‘Xtra’, Maurice Fulton,
Ashley Beedle, Derrick Carter and Horse Meat Disco step up to remix records
from Honey’s debut full-length work ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’. On the A-side
is Honey Dijon featuring Joi Cardwell ‘State of Confusion’, Maurice Fulton
giving it a New Jersey-esque lilt and allowing Joi’s voice to resonate. Next
up Ashley Beedle ups the tempo and the energy on his mix of ‘Burn’, Honey’s
collaboration with Tim K featuring Jason Walker. Derrick Carter cranks the

industrial backdrop to Cakes da Killa’s rap vocals. In stark contrast, the
final B-side is a Horse Meat Disco mix of Honey and Tim K’s cover of Aquarian
Dream, ‘Look Ahead’ featuring the voice of Sam Sparro. With all the warmth of
a sunny afternoon in the city, the London collective funk the cover all the

Frank Martiniq is someone we've
been keeping an eye on since his Adriano release in 2002. More recently we
had been enjoying his record on Stroboscopic Artefacts, the label from our
good friend Lucy. We were more than pleasantly surprised when he sent us a
demo featuring these two killer tracks. Without a doubt Golden Dusk is the
best track we've heard so far this year. A very rare combination of deep
techno and dancefloor hysteria. The B-side Golden Dawn got recorded during a
jam session Frank held with his buddy Aera from Goldwill (Wandering, Liebe
Detail). It's definitely one of the most original and trippy songs we
listened to in recent times. With titles like these we couldn't help but
pressing THE FIRST 300 ON GOLD VINYL. The artwork is again by the wonderful

Fresh off the back of a debut
album with sidekick Charlotte Adigéry Belgium-Chinese musician Bolis Pupul
explores themes of heritage and identity on his new solo two-track 12-inch
‘Neon Buddha’ - out 6th May via Soulwax’s DEEWEE. Mixing widescreen electronica
– think early Mr Fingers-like techno and Yellow Magic Orchestra’s exuberant
man-machine minimalism – with the warm-hearted and wonky naivete of Belgian
New Beat Bolis’ singular sonics are at once playful emotive unrelenting and
tender. The title track is inspired by a dream Bolis had of a pagoda in Hong
Kong featuring a contemplative Buddha made of neon lights. The music is
similarly bright and exciting – an insistent acid squiggle giving the track

Sunn (Alex Kassian and Hiroaki OBA) believe in unicorns, leprechauns and
mermaids. This is their first offering for the ESP Institute. The A side
leads with 'The Problem With George', a percussive monster at a half-time
tempo that goes deep with a dual mission; to successively build round after
round while keeping the listeners mind and body in an ecstatic state of
surrender. Imagine the dancefloor pumping, and at a dynamic peak the DJ
halves the timing and wipes the floor with your spinal fluid. On the flip,
'The Mystery Of Mr Lee' takes a similar approach in terms of arc and
arrangement, although replacing the analogue percussion with 16th-note
arpeggios of synthetic steel, glass and tubes. Beneath this glistening veneer
lies another scale-wandering melody constructed of machine toms that
eventually opens up, morphing into a more decisive hook, wrapping more
tightly around the drum pattern before retreating back beneath layers. If
dropped at the opportune time, let’s say the sensitive blue morning before
dawn cracks, we expect a dancefloors to reach the highest level of
psychedelic escape, after which hugs are essential. These two songs will tuck
you in and kiss you goodnight |

Newly-founded
Icelandic imprint NIX welcomes Swiss talent Chlär for its sophomore release
as he drops a trio of dynamic productions across his ‘Dance Instructor’ EP.
An imprint with an ethos of showcasing fresh, singular material from across
the electronic spectrum, NIX looks set to make a statement as a label to
watch in the months ahead. Founded in 2021 by Reykjavik favourite and bbbbbb
alumnus Árni, who combined with fellow Icelandic talent and synth-disco
producer Hermigervill for the label’s first release, the label now opens its
doors to its first international guest in Berlin-based, Swiss DJ, producer
and label owner, Chlär. Fresh from releases on Mutual Rytm and Welcome To The
World Loop, the Bipolar Disorder co-owner flexes his muscles as he serves up
a trio of driving yet nuanced productions across his ‘Dance Instructor’ EP.
A1 ‘Galvanizer’ is a loopy, hypnotic tunnelling ride through classic and
modern techno soundscapes as rolling drums and icy hats guide vocal snippets
down a descending groove, while ‘Vital Force’ showcases his studio talents
and wide-reaching sound palette as skittering percussion, snaking low-ends,
and further warped vocal interjections drive the production into the
peak-time hours. The B-Side is home to title track ‘Dance Instructor’,
serving up a seven-minute cascading dive through vivacious, spirited
percussion arrangements, resonant lead stabs and sharp claps to draw from
cues in its title and serve up a production set to make dancers let go and

The
undeniable flagship of Renaissance Records, a ReMix Collection is always an
event when it lands; so, as festival season begins, and we turn the corner
into summer, what musical news could be better? And it really is news. In
keeping with the ReMix Collection ethos of inviting the biggest and best to
rework undeniable Renaissance classics, which to date has included Solomun,
Tale Of Us, Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Patrice Bäumel and Yotto, the label
were delighted to secure the services of Gorgon City to provide their take on
one of the earliest, most immediate classics - Mephisto’s ‘State Of Mind’.
Released in 1992, ’State Of Mind (Quiet Mix)’ was a standout during
Renaissance formative years at their legendary Venue 44 home in Mansfield.
Its classic status was further compounded 18 months later when Sasha and John
Digweed included it on the ‘Mix Collection Vol.1’ and introduced it to the
ears of the wider world. It was, and is, an Italian house classic, which
stands out through its deft piano riff, wobbly female vox and THAT spoken
word - ‘music with more muscles’. Gorgon City’s Renaissance Remix wastes no
time with its update. Continuing the style and sound Kye and Matt established
with ‘Somebody to Love’ and ‘Ahora Todo Va’, the track is a deep, peak time
monster that injects bass, an unforgettable acid mid and deep horns to
dramatic effect. “We’ve been fans of the ReMix Collection so didn’t hesitate
to take ‘State Of Mind’”, they confirm, “the signature parts of the track are
legendary. We had real fun knitting them into a tougher, contemporary sound.” |

LUNARE EP: Tempo Lunare, syncrétique and profound is the new Ep by Adiel. Son
of a nocturnal concept, made of layers of sound, that hide but at the same
time reveals multiple sonorities, where music is made of hush in between
sounds, where every beat, melody or percussion weaves a relation of
interdependence.Adiel’ s lunar world, mystic and complex, shows us her most
intimate and interior sound, giving us the key to decrypt what we still did
not know about her. This new ep is a commingling of interior and exterior,
exogenous and endogenous as a dark promise where the opposites communion of
immaterial and concreteness is made. RITUALE: The perception of an empty
space, as a compression that expandes into a compulsive beat. Rituale is such
an abrasive track with a nocturnal 909 pulse. The rhythmic structure wraps
itself accompanied by tribal percussions. At the fourth minute and zero four
the kick stops to make the melody breath reminding the sound of the voice of
a siren. Synth will no longer be alone when beat comes back with all its
percussions and woods sounds. Seems to feel the Danza Tirbale ’s tribal
dance, where dozen of hands repercuss ringing out on drums. TEMPO LUNARE:
Colors are excluded. Sonic flow is continuous. Long percussive textures make
their way to the 909 kick in fourth fourths. It is characterized by a
downbeat bass, dirty, acid, as a reverse feeling. Rhythmics play with
ascending and descanting synth, they come and go parallel to the sonic base
of the track and the groove is continouss and pressing until it stops to
reveal the pervasive melody expanding in the space, leaving us in the hands
of sidereal time. BLU: Ecstatic, introflex and ancestral. The track Blu
recalls coral african melodies, as an ambient sacrality and as sandy
rumors,where gong gives us the beat and the sonic space of it. The vocal over
layers echoes into our ears suggesting us something about the profound. A
dark ambient track where the gong melts with our heart beat, thinnering
elements of the sonic clutch into an hypnagogic trance dance where time seems
to be frozen into an ascetic condition |
