In
the year 2000 the internet had not yet become the new messiah. I would often
cross the Channel by ferry on my way to London where I would spend the
weekend going out and hunting for records, especially those that were
impossible to find in Belgium. As soon as I set foot in a record shop, then
under the influence of labels like Rephlex, Warp and Planet Mu, I would rush
like a gold digger, head down in the racks that mentioned these labels, to
try and find the piece I was missing or the latest release not yet
distributed in Belgium. The artists that obviously haunted me the most at the
time were Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. During one of my visits to the record
shop "Sister Ray", I was, as was often the case, deep in the
Squarepusher rack. And there, I find a record that I do not yet know, an LP
entitled Ceephax Acid Quakers 1000, on the fantastic label "Lo
Recording" ! Without hesitation and without further investigation I rush
to buy it, convinced that I am holding the new Holy Grail from Squarepusher.
Back in Brussels, I listen to this mysterious LP straight away and I discover
a completely different album from what I was expecting. More audacious than
what Squarepusher had produced in the past and which was more in line with the
sound I was looking for at the time. I had to look hard at the record sleeve
to understand this new approach. "Produced by Andy Jenkinson... but no,
it's Tom Jenkinson....there must be a mistake?" Knowing the record shops
of Brussels well, here I was on my way with the record under my arm to get
more info. A record shop owner in the city centre tells me that this
"Andy" is Tom's little brother, and that if I'm interested, he just
brought in another record by this artist who calls himself
"Ceephax"... Of course I'm interested! Icing on the cake, it is on
a Belgian label, and moreover, provided with a cassette. I had to meet the
guys who were behind this impressive "First Cask" label. I don't
know by what magic I managed to meet Ga?l, one of the two founders, but what
is sure is that since that day he has become more than a friend and he
arranged for me to get in touch not with Squarepusher but with Andy. Two
historical albums united in a superb gatefold ! |

Opening with Sergio Leone's theme
from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, it's safe to say The Ramones still
fancied themselves as rock 'n' roll cowboys when they took to the stage in
Montevideo, Uruguay's capital city, where a largely unreported but longstanding
punk scene continues to blossom. That little nugget of information aside,
this is a live recording of one of the US' most influential guitar outfits of
the late-20th Century, in their 20th year as a force to be reckoned with. Of
course, by this point The Ramones had changed from their formative years,
Tommy, Dee Dee, and Richie Ramone all having handed respective batons, and
instruments, to others. There's also the argument that after two decades in
the game, the ferocity and vitality that originally saw them inspire an
entire generation of rebellious talent had waned. We say check the energy and

up on a standout inaugural EP by Alpha Tracks, KI/KI's slash imprint now
presents a mighty 8-track compilation of propulsive trance, split over two
equally potent parts. The compilation contains a selection of dancefloor
favourites curated by KI/KI herself that have been intensively road tested
during her gigs in the past year. slash003 turns more introspective,
recalling darkened, brooding club basements. Launching off, DJ Hyperdrive
more than lives up to his namesake. 'Starburst' rockets at light speed, its
space-age momentum conjuring a retrofuturist fantasy. Amour Noir's 'Sunday
Morning' is a love letter to dance floors, its choral-style vocal and gliding
synth alluding to the reverence of liturgical music. Tbilisi's Bassiani
resident Newa transposes a wiggy acid bassline onto a steely techno pulse,
then for 'Astral Recall' (one of KI/KI's most played songs of 2022) Arman
John partners a driving beat with a lucid melody, crafting a hybrid flex that
melds genres and moods seamlessly. Plunging into darkness before emerging
into sunlit euphoria, slash003 channels a vital feature of every masterful DJ

Following on from the success of
his debut EP (Fall Then Rise) for the label, we asked Eusebeia to contribute
a second EP. Carving out his own place inside the Samurai Music soundscape
has come effortlessly for Seb and the tracks for the Omen EP flowed quickly.
EP opener Auspice is the odd one out on the EP, with sinister sonics weaving
around a steady kick drum bounce absent of Seb's trademark break-work. Sparse
and haunting - it sets the scene for title track Omen where Seb lays out a
time capsule summation of his sonic identity - contemplative ambiance,
rumbling bottom end, and breakbeat craftsmanship. Indicia burrows deeper into
emotive territory and cuts breaks so they wrap around the plaintive melodic
content. Signs and Signals is perhaps the most direct tune on the EP, but
still the undeniable power of the breaks and bass is welded to the expressive
atmosphere |

Donato
Dozzy, Marco Shuttle and Ultrastation are among the names on these great
remix package on the trustworthy SoHaSo label. After two well received EP's
-Laren and ZL2- Bas Dobbelaer and Vand asked a few like-minded spirits to
reset the dials of some of their best work. With their melancholic, melodic
and highly detailed techno-infused productions, the two Dutch producers
carved a name for themselves over the last four years. Italian producer
Donato Dozzy takes Transit (a track from 2019) into a lush, green forrest.
Where dew water is still dripping from the trees while string-like melodies
slowly swirl around them. Beautiful stuff. Gal Tsadok-Hai takes a similar
path, though his take on Gateway to Gaia is a bit gloomier. Dusk is setting
in and so is melancholia. Same goes for Marco Shuttles version of Reflect, a
track from 2021. The London-based Italian producer left out kickdrums and
basslines, settling instead for a feverish percussion-infused meditation.
Once on the flipside, the club vibe truly kicks in. With a minimalist,
bassline heavy remix by Shoal of Story of Blade and an equally effective
techno remake from Ultrastation, who turns Runner into a hypnotic peak time
monster |

pack with eleven serene ambient and IDM tracks by German producer Alexander
Potthof aka Rave Angst. The vibe is moody and production is crisp with lots
going on to keep your brain busy. It really feels like we're entering Potthoff's
soul - he definitely did not hold back as this is deeply emotional and -
let's face it - often apocalyptic sounding music. The unsettling melodies on
the album are strangely held together by metallic sounding rhythms but only
just... Rave Angst really challenges the listener on this album. It's all
high quality stuff with 1994, Sunday Morning Self-Medication Acid and Burning
Cars Acid being our personal favorites. [ALBUM TITLE] is a massive
recommendation for anyone into mid 90s Aphex Twin and early Plastikman.

Out Recordings proudly presents the self-titled debut album by Rio de Janeiro
born multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger Tunico. Honing Brazilian
roots rhythms like maracatu, xanadu, and samba, to combine with a global
contemporary jazz outlook, the newcomer adds a modern classic to the ever
rich vein of Brazilian instrumental music. Consider it a natural evolution
from the legacies of greats like Quarteto Novo, Hermeto Pascoal, Banda Black
Rio, Tamba Trio, and Dom Um Romão, Tunico’s debut brings together an eye
catching ensemble of talents from the Rio jazz community, with whom he
performs on a weekly basis at celebrated live sessions and jam’s at venues
like Macuna and Comuna Lapa, which often go on all night. Released in 2022,
the album’s rip-roaring lead single “Galope” features the effervescent vocals
of Katerina Assef, as well as consummate solos from all over the band, as
Sounds & Colours put it “…it exudes distinction and promise”. “Sambola”
calls on the signature swagger of Far Out favourite Antonio Neves, indulging
us in irresistible swinging samba-funk, undeniably reminiscent of the
aforementioned Banda Black Rio in their late 70s heyday. Born and raised in
an artistic Rio household, Antonio Secchin aka Tunico’s father was the
painter Guilherme Secchin, whose original work is lovingly repurposed to
create the album’s cover. Antonio learned his trade on guitar from a young
age, which remains his primary method for composition, but at the age of
eighteen he started to gravitate towards the saxophone, and in particular the
soprano sax, from which he now leads bands despite being entirely self
taught. He would develop his skills busking on curbsides and metro stations
before becoming a mainstay player in venues and clubs around the city. When
the pandemic struck, Antonio retreated to his family home in the Rio
countryside. With time and space to breathe and reflect in a natural
environment, he set to work at fleshing out the compositions he’d written
throughout his musical life into full bodied works. His affinity with his
rural surroundings is reflected in the luscious, blossoming feel of this
groovy, mystical and poignant instrumental debut album |

Adja
is Brussels-based creator, singer and performer Adja Fassa, an artist rapidly
making a name for herself in Belgium and a multidisciplinary with big plans.
On the 24th February, she is set to release her debut EP 'IRONEYE' via the
groove-obssessed Sdban Ultra. In a direct line from her personal growth to
her artistic practice, Adja translates through jazz, soul, gospel and her
ever-expanding and transforming experience of reality, simultaneously using
the creative process as a vehicle to make known to herself the answer to
those inner questions. Her goal: making her spiritual path in this life as
tangible as possible. A force of nature on stage with warm, sensual vocals,
Adja is evocative of artists such as Erykah Badu, Solange and Lianne La
Havas. Besides being a musician, Fassa is also a theatremaker, working
towards what she calls "Sophisticated Soul in a hybrid concert
format." Her music takes centre stage, with her live shows gradually
taking on an evolving theatrical character: telling stories through song,
accompanied by sensory elements such as scent and symbolic images. All this
stems from a desire to shed light on the plane of existence between everyday
existence and the hidden stories from our collective memory. On her music,
Adja adds, "I am exploring what 'spirituality' means in this society, in
the here and now. This, by not only treating it as an elusive abstract thing,
but exploring how to make it as tangible as possible, which for myself means
sharing sincere self-reflection with the outside world. I hope in that way to
support those who are searching for the trigger to their own catharsis, as I
wish to be one of many artists at service of those who are actively
searching, actively trying to evolve. I hope some of those people resonate
with my music and feel it moves them in the way they need to open up and
start a new conversation with themselves, at whatever point they are in their
life. I believe the first step to a better world is to look inward, but there
is no reason we can't do that together and share some laughs and cries while
we do so." On stunning lead single 'Told you so" she states,
"'Told you so' is a song about integrity. In a way, I feel blessed with
a curse. The curse of rapid failure when I deviate from what is true to me:
It seems that, whenever I am - purposely or unpurposely - dishonest with
myself, I crash and burn really fast. A blessing in that sense that it seems
my Soul's purpose does not let me waste time, a curse because it means that
the teachings of life rarely feel like a gentle push and often like a slap in
the face." From a young age, Fassa always tried to understand the deeper
layers in herself and others. A traveller in heart and soul, she studied
theatre at KASK in Ghent and then in 2015, travelled to India and Nepal to
immerse herself in yoga and other practices focused on the
(sub)consciousness. Returning to Belgium to study jazz and vocals at the
Leuven Conservatory, she began to combine her singing, theatre, and physical
performance. She won the prestigious Sound Track competition for young
talents in Flanders in 2021 |

Greyscale's
most personal release and perhaps the most important for label owner grad_u
aka Aleksandr Martinkevic. Earlier this year, Alex was diagnosed with cancer.
Certainly a horrible thing to hear and there has definitely been some low
moments in certain stages of the journey. At just 36 years old, many of us
are shocked that such a young person can develop cancer. After some research
he found out that younger and younger people are randomly getting cancer
studies show. An alarming trend to learn about. However, there has also been
a lot of other learning and different new levels of appreciation for the
simple things in life as a new higher level of inspiration in making music
has manifested. And this new release encapsulates that. Alex has also felt a
duty to make things better for others. Focusing on what can be improved as he
wants to highlight research, treatment and the overall communication of this
disease to more people in the electronic music scene. Part of the proceeds
from this new album will be donated to the National Cancer Institute in his
homeland of Lithuania. Alex wants everyone to know that catching these signs
early and getting regular checkups are your best chance at beating cancer.
Thankfully Alex did this also and his treatments have gone well. Alex plans
still stay steadfast with his label and his life. Simplifying things with the
love from his family and friends, focusing on his hobbies along with making
sure he makes his health his #1 personal priority. The name for this full
length release is titled 'T2NO'. grad_u's most introspective work yet
features 8 emotional tracks overall. The honesty expressed in this album is
blunt and to the point. These tracks take you on an audio journey thru grad_u
as he expresses his feelings thru the entire process in each stage. Beginning
with two wonderful ambient tracks named 'Genetic Mutation' &
'Carcinogen'. In the opener, Chords rain over you as a beautiful ambient
melody peeks out underneath it followed by a more stark and hazy field of
interference. From the gentle opener to the more tension filled follower, the
personal journey of grad_u is developing before your ears. The b-side of
'Neoplasm' is a bit more somber but also has a ray of light in it.
Introspective as it can get, this is a true journey through an uncertain
future. 'MRI scan' needs no explanation... The second half of the album
begins the understanding of what grad_u was going thru. 'Malignant
Transformation' gives off that feeling of the human body working thru the
science. Fight or flight becomes the theme for this track. 'Adenocarcinoma'
almost gives off the sound of cells rebuilding themselves. Sci-fi meets real
life in this epic battle. 'Resection' continues this scientific sounding
reflection on the body healing with sounds of movement and time. As if the
body is working itself out. Lastly and triumphantly comes the closing track
'Waking up to a New Life'... The emotional journey of this album isn't for
the faint of heart. It leaves nothing to the imagination. It works thru all
the emotions that can come with such and life changing event like having
cancer. We want to thank grad_u for sharing his story with us. This story can
happen to anyone... |

Ellen
Allien and the We Are Not Alone collective are back with a second edition of
the We Are Not Alone series. A 36-track compilation split into 3 parts, each
consisting of 12 cuts, dedicated to the infamous We Are Not Alone event
series and the best of Berlin’s underground techno talent. Ellen Allien's
innovative party series We Are Not Alone was launched in 2016 and remains
committed to inviting an exciting crew of artists to perform at the 36 hour
events, now in a new home at RSO.BERLIN, where they returned with bang over
36 hours and 3 floors in May. The We Are Not Alone compilation features
artists that have played at the parties, as well as those who will join the
line-up for future events. The 4th, 5th and 6th parts include music by Ellen
and established names names such as Thomas P. Heckmann, Dollkraut & DJ
Europarking, Francois X, Phase Fatale and Etapp Kyle. Rising stars Nene H,
Nur Jaber, Stephanie Sykes, Wallis and Métaraph. BPitch signings including
Rosa Anschütz, Shaleen, Matasism and Uncrat. For this installment of the
series, Ellen Allien collaborates with esteemed director and photographer
Stini Roehrs for the multidisciplinary project ‘’AFTER DARK – Emotional
States of Techno’’, consisting of a virtual rave film, book and exhibition
produced by AKKURAT Studios, and the We Are Not Alone VA, which is to be
released physically and digitally via BPitch. The next We Are Not Alone
parties take place at RSO, Berlin in July, August and October of this year.
22nd July, CSD weekend, is set to be a single night event on two floors. 20th
August a We Are Not Alone floor during the RSO Club Festival and then we’ll

DJ and producer Indira Paganotto has unveiled her new EP ‘Lions Of God’ out
on vinyl early 2023. A four-track release, ‘Lions Of God’ kicks off with
‘Legend’, a pulsating, high-energy club cut that taps into Indira’s trademark
‘psytechno’ sound. Setting the tone for the rest of the record, it is
followed by the slamming techno meets spiritual vocals of ‘Diabla’, hypnotic,
highly emotive vibes of ‘Angels Never Die’, and finally the title track
‘Lions Of God’, a pumping techno cut laced with poignant breakdowns. She
returns to KNTXT following last year’s ‘Himalaya’ EP. “Indira is baaaaack!”

Plex's Lone Romantic label signs up new school techno innovators Any Act for
the powerful Deti Techno EP. Since their self-released protest EP ‘Civil
Act’, Yaroslavl-based collective Any Act have put out music that is
physically, socially and politically powerful. That debut from the TRAM
Planet Records associates was an evocative offering that paired dynamic
guitar riffs with samples of a policeman's voice and acid-laced basslines.
They now continue their mission to unite and strengthen young music
communities in their native Russia, as well as around the world, with this
new standout release. The bristling title track opens up with a killer
electro-techno groove. Distorted synth stabs and dark vocal samples make for
an intense and edgy atmosphere that will fire up any club. 'Jug A Jug' is
another visceral track with razor-sharp synths ripping up the groove as
busted bass blasts down low. Add in angular riffs and booming kicks and you
have an explosive techno rave-up. The excellent 'Bayla' is another no-frills,
lo-fi, high-impact banger with thumping drums and brain-frying synth textures
that are all coated in grit and grime. 'Till I Die' shows a different side
with its sleazy feel and ghetto bass. A freaky female vocal and pixelated
melodies bring late-night rave vibes before closer 'Chin Chin De' takes off
on rugged electro drum programming. It's an explosive cut with raw attitude
and unbound energy that places you at the heart of a strobe-lit warehouse.

Arrival,
the debut album from Swedish duo Aasthma, is big, bold, bright and utterly
fearless. It’s described by its creators as a larger-than-life “secular
rapture” that sounds like “Justin Bieber meeting up with Rotterdam Terror
Corps to do an Abba cover at the Grand Ole Opry.” The byproduct of a
friendship, Aasthma is a collaboration between Pär Grindvik and Peder
Mannerfelt, best known individually for their exploits in the techno realm.
Calling Arrival it a pop album might serve as an effective shorthand, but
sonically, it’s a high-fidelity whirlwind, occupying a dazzling soundworld
where Top 40 ballads and breakbeat rollers gleefully canoodle with trap
bangers, neon-streaked EDM and guttural dancehall. Arrival is absolutely
Aasthma’s vision, but it’s not exactly a solo effort. Few acts would dream of
enlisting both the sultry melancholy of HTRK vocalist Jonnine Standish (“It’s
Just Your Style”) and the swaggering rhymes of Swedish rapper Silvana Imam
(“Soulhack”), but Aasthma did just that and more, lining up what they
describe as a “dream mixtape” that includes the talents of Shout Out Louds
frontman Adam Olenius (“Lights Out”), Equiknoxx co-founder Gavsbourg (“Nod”),
and glittery pop crooner Casey MQ (“3am”). Mixed by Aasthma together with Johannes
Berglund (who’s previously worked with FKA Twigs, The Knife and Fever Ray),
Arrival combines technicolor maximalism with the trademark sheen of

and festivals, testimony to the sheer importance of this techno classic.
Released originally in 1990 on the R&S Records label, ‘Beltram Vol. 1’
included the aforementioned ‘Energy Flash’, alongside three equally
ground-breaking dance tracks that possibly get overshadowed by the big lead
track. But tracks like ‘Subsonic Bass’ broke the mould and went on to
influence a raft of rave and drum ‘n’ bass tunes, thanks in part to its use
of the now legendary ‘hoover’ bass sound. The sinister acid of ‘Jazz 3033’
still sounds as fresh today as it did 33 years ago, and the menacingly titled
‘Psycho Bass’ reveals the EP’s most passive moment, as its solid breakbeat
cuts through ethereal tones and chugging synths. ‘Beltram Volume 1’ has been
remastered by Beau Thomas at Ten Eight Seven Mastering, and the release comes
in an updated sleeve, faithfully recreating the 1990 packaging. ‘Beltram

Bartosz
Kruczy?ski, also known as artist Earth Trax, is arguably among the leading
names in Poland's current electronic music scene. Based in Warsaw, his music
is deeply emotive and explores a wide-ranging sonic palette that is
complemented by well-defined artistic concepts. He has already featured on
labels including Phonica Records, Growing Bin, Into The Light and Shall Not
Fade -with whom he released his acclaimed debut album in 2020-. His Lapsus
release 'Closer Now', takes a different trajectory to his previous album 'The
Sensual World' [Shall Not Fade, 2022], fundamentally an energetic and high
tempo club record. In contrast, 'Closer Now' focuses on fresh and disparate
ideas, with tracks that could typically be classified as
more?unrestrained?B-sides that deconstruct sounds aimed at the dancefloor.
'Closer Now' is influenced by liminal spaces and cultivates surreal and
dreamlike qualities. Conversely it also possesses a sense of strength and
grit, highlighted by moments where electronic distortion bares its teeth. It

Analysis proudly presents Het Zweet - Archives Volume 1: 1982-1988, a
compilation of the Dutch outsider legend painstakingly picked from over 100
hours of unheard tape. An early electronic pioneer who deployed an array of
homemade instruments alongside synths and a tape recorder to craft his
searching sound, Marien Van Oers occupies a lonely branch on the tree of this
music's early efforts, sliding between pounding industrial grooves, ambient
fragments, and extended, entrancing compositions bridging this divide. Most
closely akin to Muslimgauze, Test Dept. or Fad Gadget, who shared his
outsider practice while remaining thoroughly entrenched in contemporary
sounds, Het Zweet is striking for his diversity and for its meticulous
composition, formed of carefully arranged layers of sonic detritus culled
from his collection of homemade devices and electronic distortions. Finally
rising to greater exposure since his death in 2013, Modal Analysis
passionately continues this mission with our first volume of archives

Silence' is his first outing on Savy and demonstrates a meeting of minds
between the two imprints, with both Farron and Savy founder IDA sharing a
similar musical ethos and aesthetic. Across the versatile and dynamic

techno, breaks, and clever, creative rhythms to craft moments that stretch

Klasse Wrecks' first release of
2023 comes storming out of the gate, hot on the tail of Mr. Ho's previous
album and his collaborative 'Eu-Li' EP with Mogwaa. 'Angel Number 909' is a
collection of three versions of one track, the over-riding element in the EP
is an incessant and catchy acidic synthline that bounds across racketing
breakbeats and galloping basslines. Alongside the 'US Breaks' version is an
old school influenced 'Acid House' version as well as a moodier 'House' mix.

"Deining" is the first
full album by bassist and composer Dries Laheye. We know Dries as a composer
and bass player for bands such as STUFF., Hoera. and Lucid Lucia. He is
widely referred to as one of the better Belgian bass players of his generation
and now comes forward with a solo-repertoire on this debut-EP. His intention
was to create music that feels like it keeps moving. The result is a dreamy
universe that flows through concrete elements and improvised passages. The
compositions of this repertoire were written for solo bass guitar with
effects as tools. The tracks are recorded live in the studio and some
overdubs with voice, bansuri flute and synthesizer were added to create a
more layered sound. Recommended to people who love Taylor Deupree, Bibio,
Bill Frisell, Skuli Sverrisson, etc |

The
third compilation (of four instalments) in the Various Artists catalogue of
Pi Electronics is hitting physical and digital stores around the globe on the
10th of February 2023. The concept of releasing artists, who performed at Pi
parties (2014-2019) along with musicians who stood close to the label before
and during its activity, gathers 18 tracks to the Limitation Compilation.
Music by New York City industrial legend Adam X, Swedish master mind producer
Peder Mannerfelt and Irish Techno figure, Eomac (also one half of Lakker)
finally takes its place on the label catalogue, along with tracks by the
electro side of Italian born producer, Alessandro Adriani and the
sound-aesthetic of UK hailing musicians, Slave to Society (formerly AnD) and
Sam KDC. Berlin artists Alekzandra and Interviews appear with a synth leaning
piece, and a hypnotic, broken techno contribution respectively. You can also
meet the sound of Tel Aviv's finest electro duo TV.OUT on this release, which
also includes a rare collaboration track by Ireen Amnes and Gramrcy. Finally,
'Limitation' presents music by Greece affiliated acts of different
backgrounds: from the dreamy guitars of Monochromatic Visions and the
ambient/drone of Devika, to the broken beats of Zevla and Only, as well as
the rolling techno of Thanos Hana. Not to mention the textures of noise band
Phallucipher, the industrial slo mo techno of Thessaloniki's, Archaic
Intellect, and the noise-techno of label founder, 3.14. A crossroad of
different genres and production styles is offered in the formats of Double
Vinyl Sampler, Double CD and digital for this compilation, titled
"Limitation" |

Ghost
In The Machine make their long awaited return to Perc Trax with their first
full release for the label since their debut album 'Breaking The Seal' was
unleashed at the start of 2020. Since then they've released multiple EPs on
their own Genosha Basic label, remixed Marc Acardipane, Dahryl and Torque and
given their remix of Paula Temple the vinyl release it always deserved. As
DJs they have toured Europe and South America, tearing down dance floors with
their powerful kick driven sound. From small intimate clubs to huge festival
stages their depth of musical knowledge and razor sharp mixing have made them
the highlight of any line-up. For this first Perc Trax release of 2023 Ghost
In The Machine take their sound and production to the next level. EP opener
'Come One' is a tour de force of giant kick drums, distorted breakbeats and
the kind of drops most techno acts can only dream of. 'Ensnared' takes a more
groove based approach with rolling snares over a classic Ghost In The Machine
kick assault. Lastly 'Break' gives us a chance to breathe (at least in
comparison to the first two tracks) with droning tones layered over an
assortment of classic drum breaks brought up to date by Ghost In The
Machine's untouchable production skills |
