Scores is beyond excited to present SSR Records: In Retrospect. This 2LP
compilation album presented in a beautiful gatefold sleeve and through all
digital platforms, wishes to highlight the immense and hard to grasp legacy
of the Brussels based label. SSR Records was founded in 1988 by Marc
Hollander as a sub label of his Crammed Discs and spanned the nascent years
of house, acid, rave, trance, new beat, hip-hop, future jazz and broken beat,
collaborating internationally and racking up close to 200 releases until it
was put to sleep in 2002. Far ahead of their time, SSR Records released music
of both European and North American artists that hadn’t broken through yet,
such as those collected on this compilation: Move D, Nu Era, Gemini, Bjørn
Torske, Glenn Underground or Matthew Herbert. SSR Records was run by Crammed
Discs chief Marc Hollander and Minimal Compact singer Samy Birnbach aka DJ
Morpheus. SSR Records: In Retrospect comes with extended liner notes,
exploring the pivotal milestones in the history of the adventurous label and
zooming in on the origins of all records featured on the compilation. All
nine tracks on SSR Records: In Retrospect were selected by Hi Scores’s head
honcho Kong DJ and have been remastered. Created between 1990 and 1996 and in
the at the time pioneering spheres of house, breakbeat, electro and trance
music, these treasures from the vast SSR catalog today stand as a stunning
testimony to a truly remarkable and timeless musical legacy. Kong DJ: ‘While
collaborating with Crammed Discs on the releases of Aksak Maboul in 2016 and
Zazou / Bikaye in 2018 on Ensemble, I began to grasp the impressive catalog
of the label and its sub labels, including SSR. Surprised by the tiny
footprint SSR had left on the world wide web - often the case for labels
ceased before the internet revolution - I wrote an article for British
website The Vinyl Factory. This would later prove to be the first step
towards this compilation album, collecting favorites from the label as a kid

room you sit in, as if there are no negatives and no positives--did you know
that you are an extension of your apartment? Did you know that you are in a
codependent relationship with your apartment? Did you know that your
apartment knows and appreciates all of your secrets?--I feel safe, which is
not a new need for human beings, but a very ancient one, almost the first
one. It is enacted by the possibility of sound, humming or strumming
something mostly. But the quiet apartment makes its own sounds: a single
longing note of birdsong told to the beat of restful breathing, the angelic
insistence of tinnitus, the neighbours. Sometimes I wonder if silence means
nobody's home. How still I sit. Sometimes I return to silence and feel hugged
by the cool lightness of its touch, like sleeping with just a sheet in
summertime. Like turning the key. Like a visit from the cat next door. Like a
somnambulant ray reaching across the room, asking if you'd like to step
outside. Reste Envie is a desirous message to oneself, made from a place of
lived solitude: the parameters of home. Roger 3000 is a painter and a musician
from Brussels, Belgium. Rest En Vie follows his 2020 release on his own
imprint Tundra Records, Fiftine. His first solo EP, UFO Love Letters, was
released by JJ Funhouse in 2014, followed by a contribution to Ekster's 2017
compilation album EXO3. Roger 3000 frequently collaborates with other
musicians and artists, most recently with Lawrence le Doux (with whom he
released the EP Chou Chou on Lexi Disques in 2021); with Carole Louis as
Ondine & Turbotin for the EP Club Solitude, as well as with Bitsy Knox,
with whom he released the LP OM COLD BLOOD in 2018 on Tanuki Records. Text by

Blazej
Malinowski joins forces with Neel, Claudio PRC, Milena Glowacka and Svreca
for a collaborative EP via his own Inner Tension imprint this May. Over the
past decade, Poland-born now Berlin-based producer, DJ Blazej Malinowski has
been deliver his twist on Techno via imprint such as Semantica, Kvalia, TGP,
012 and of course his own Inner Tension label where he returns here with a
new collaborative EP. The idea behind the record was to merge Blazej with
artists he has close connections to and create music that would capture the
moment in time at which it was made, based on pure emotion and without
limitation. The resultant 'Are We All Alone or Just Overwhelmed?' EP is
testament to Blazej's inherent connection to Techno. Up first on the package
is 'Time Is Relative', a collaboration with Italian DJ, producer and engineer
Neel which meanders through an amalgamation of intricately intertwined synth
leads, robust percussion, and a grinding low- end drive. 'Riddle' with
Claudio PRC follows and wanders into deeper territories via ethereal,
billowing textures, metallic chimes and resonant synth flutters floating atop
a circling bass groove and crisp drums. On the flip-side Milena Glowacka
joins Blazej for 'Equal', a subtly unfurling composition laid out across
seven minutes with bubbling tones, dynamic percussive elements and a
pulsating low-end. 'Coincidence', composed with Svreca then rounds out the
release, a murky journey through haunting atmospherics, bumpy off-kilter
drums, and eerie percussive fills |

Death was founded in 1980 by the brothers Reiner and Dieter Kelch in Velbert.
With singer Thorsten „Toto“ Bergmann, second guitarist Frank Fricke and
drummer Frank Schubring the first line-up was complete. In 1982 the band
released their first self-titled demo. In response to US bands like Anthrax
or Metallica, the band released the debut album Vengeance from Hell in 1983,
making them one of the pioneers of trash metal in Europe. Living Death played
an early mixture of extreme metal styles, especially thrash and speed metal.
While the debut album is still criticized in retrospectives that the sound
was poor and the guitar riffs were rather trivial, the following albums were
much more aggressive, this was also due to transfers on the drums, in 1986
Atomic Steiff took over. The album Protected From Reality, released in 1987,
became a milestone for the band and has cult status to this day. Sound
experiments were in the instrumental song Wood Of Necrophiliac, which added
unusual doubled acoustic guitars with a distorted sound track. But above all,
the track Eisbein (with sauerkraut) caused a furor. At that time it was
completely new in the metal scene to record a fun song. Many imitators were
to follow and Protected From Reality became Living Death‘s most successful
record |

Abba. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has co-invented the incomparable „Pop
Goes Classic Sound“. With 10 wonderful, symphonic arragements, we recall the
megahits of Abba: „Ab-bature“, no great musical work without an overture or
abbature. „Mamma Mia“ is consid-ered to have triggered the worldwide
Abbamania and became the namesake of the Abba musical in 1999. „Money, Money,
Money“ became Abba‘s fifth No. 1 hit in a row in Ger-many, and the sixth in a
row in Australia. With „SOS“, Abba was able to establish itself and finally
shed the image of the one-hit-wonder band. „Knowing Me, Knowing You“ reached
the charts in 19 countries, and in the UK began a second string of three
consecutive No. 1 singles. „I Have A Dream“ became a worldwide hit in 1979,
and in 1999 a cover version by the boy band Westlife became a No. 1 Christmas
hit in the UK. With „Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)“, Abba
reached the top of the charts in six countries. „Chiquitita“ was Abba‘s first
song to be recorded in both English and Spanish; both ver-sions became No. 1
hits. „Does Your Mother Know“ dates from the disco era and premi-ered on
Swiss television in February 1979. The grand „Finale“ picks up other

Just mention 'Terrace' in a techno environment and soon someone
else will shout "pioneer!" As Florence, Terrace and (half of) Acid
Junkies, Brabant-based producer Stefan Robbers was at the flying centre of
Dutch techno in the early 1990s. Perks is Robbers' fifth EP for Delsin in a
relatively short time. On the one hand, it contains his signature sound:
melancholic melodies and complex drum patterns wrapped in outstanding
production; on the other, Perks surprises on many fronts. For starters, the
overall vibe is a lot more sombre, the chosen route much more experimental.
Take 'Model A', a dreamy, 12 minute-long meandering epic that nods to the
kraut-infused electronica of Tangerine Dream and Cluster but at the same time

Exegesis
I' is the debut album from Uncoiled, a new record label focusing on
productions made with the Colundi Sequence, a non-standard tuning system
created by Grant Wilson-Claridge and popularized in recent years by Aleksi
Perala. In a departure from the familiar tonality exemplified by Perala's
work, Lonefront delivers the label's inaugural offering through an extension
of the Colundi Sequence with his interpretations based on community research.
Tracks '6' and '21' balance the holistic deployment of calculated parameters
with techno idioms focused on connecting to dance-floors. Tracks '19' and
'29', a collaboration between Lonefront and UK-based artist FLAWS, express a
fluidity of affect as it weaves between heads-down cogitation and twilight
sentimentality |

Arriving
this May, the French icon’s first solo album since 2015 is his most
dancefloor-focussed yet. Laurent Garnier is one of electronic music’s
best-known acts, a pioneering household name responsible for decades of
clubland classics. From experiencing the acid-house movement first-hand as a
DJ at The Haçienda through to timeless hits such as the breakout ‘Crispy
Bacon’ and the enduring ‘The Man With The Red Face’, his tireless enthusiasm
has permeated the dance music landscape via six celebrated albums, numerous
singles and a relentless touring schedule. On ‘33 Tours Et Puis S’en Vont’,
Laurent Garnier’s first solo LP in 8 years and his most dancefloor-oriented
yet, a total mastery of House, Techno, and beyond is on full display.
Club-leaning cuts from ‘Liebe Grüße Aus Cucuron’ through to ‘Granulator
Bordelum’ all distil his years of warehouse, club, and festival experience
into thrilling expressions of musical tension and release. Vocal-led tracks
tastefully borrow from a range of genre influences; from the Hip Hop
inflected ‘In Your Phase’ with 22Carbone, an incendiary number that will be
firmly burnt into the memory of any attendee of Garnier’s recent DJ sets, to
the Punk of ‘Saturn Drive Triplex’, which features vocals from the late Alan
Vega, of influential duo Suicide notoriety. Elsewhere, sprinklings of broken
rhythms appear in the leftfield downtempo cut ‘...et puis s’en Va!’ and Drum
& Bass experiment ‘Sado Miso’, offering listeners a further view into his
wide-ranging taste.Across 2022, Garnier released five EPs, each containing a
special hidden code referencing a fairground ride from his childhood,
alluding to the album. Now presented through various mediums upon release,

In
May 2016, Trevino a.k.a. Marcus Intalex released his acclaimed debut album,
'Front', on his own Birdie label. Almost exactly seven years on, the follow
up album 'Back' will be released posthumously, marking the final Trevino
album. The release date is scheduled for the 26th May to mark the six year
anniversary of Marcus passing (28th May 2017). Although most of the tracks
for 'Back' were made during Marcus' time in Berlin, he moved back to
Manchester in early 2017 to make the most of his home studio. The Trevino
moniker was an output for Marcus to return to his love of house and techno,
inspired by his experience of working in record shops from a young age where
he would be receiving records spanning across Chicago house and Detroit
techno - most notably referencing the Belleville Three as a key influence.
The producer, named after his favourite golfer Lee Trevino, has loosely based
the two-part album project on the 'Front' nine and 'Back' nine holes in the
sport. This theme runs throughout, with the artwork based on the plans for
Hillside golf course |

When the brothers Brian, Dennis
and Carl Wilson, together with their cousin and a school friend, founded The
Beach Boys in the early 1960s, it was not foreseeable that these smart boys
from a sleepy suburb of Los Angeles would make music history in the next
decades. They became famous with catchy melodies, four-part choral
arrangements, unique harmony combinations and their „surf concept“. Soon the
whole world was in Beach Boys and surf fever. The „Myth of California“, which
today everyone associates with optimism, hedonistic pleasure without
disturbing everyday worries and never-ending -summer, was born. Songs for
eternity were released and with „Pet Sounds“ for many the most important

was characterized by the fusion of reggae, ska and rocksteady elements, as
well as his distinctive singing and songwriting style. Marley‘s contributions
to music raised the profile of Jamaican music worldwide, making him a pop
culture legend to this day. Throughout his career, Marley became known as a
Rastafarian icon, adding an air of spirituality to his music. He is also
considered a worldwide symbol of Jamaican music, culture and identity, and
was controversial for openly advocating democratic social reforms. In 1976,
Marley survived an assassination attempt at his home that was believed to be
politically motivated. He advocated the legalization of marijuana as well as
Pan-Africanism. His greatest hits album »Legend« became the best-selling
reggae album of all time. Shortly after his death in 1981, he was
posthumously honored by Jamaica with his country‘s Order of Merit. In 1994,
Marley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone voted
him 11th on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time |

RECORDING OF KRAFTWERK’S FIRST FESTIVAL SET. One warm evening in May 1997, in
the grounds of a country house just off the M1, thousands watched Kraftwerk,
the enigmatic Mensch-Maschine, successfully evolve. Their appearance at the
dance music one-dayer Tribal Gathering was the group’s first ever festival
set. To be there was to witness Kraftwerk in the context of the dance music
they had inspired and were inspired by. The tent was filled with a healthy
mix of electro-warriors, club night regulars and curious, slightly square
undergraduates who loved Underworld and Leftfield as much as Pulp and Suede.
The Trans-Europe was opened by Two Lone Swordsmen on the final leg of their
eight-hour sound-system set. By 11pm, the tent was a mass of tight, whooping
waves made up of every demographic: most revellers by now felt accepted in
the festival’s mix of glammed-up ravers, trance hedonists and hoodie-wearing
ordinary Joes. Then as a robotic voice cut through; “Meine Damen und Herren,”
it began… Before Tribal Gathering, Kraftwerk played theatres and tribute
shows. After it, they became festival fixtures. For almost all attendees it
felt precious to be there at that pivotal moment, at both a peculiar
homecoming and something of an annunciation |

Italian
techno sensation Alignment is back with a fifth EP Close Your Eyes on
Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT label. Close Your Eyes is four tracks of thrilling
all-out industrial assault from the Barcelona-based artist. Title track
‘Close Your Eyes’ rips into a slamming turbo-charged beat accompanied by
metal textures and warehouse atmospherics. Next up, ‘Deep Space’ is pure
evocative melodrama, riding on a wave of ghostly vocals and piercing synth
stabs. ‘Dance For Me’ ups the ante with a trance-tinged roller underscored by
slamming bass, before ‘Fight For A New World’ closes out the EP with an epic
journey to euphoria. “I really thought of the Close Your Eyes EP as a travel
in my current dreams and maybe a bit of my nightmares as well.” Alignment
explains. “For this EP, I tried to combine the “original” Alignment
influences with a touch of the new hard techno sounds.” Charlotte de Witte
adds: “Alignment is back, and his 5th release on the label is an absolute
killer! I’ve been playing these tracks all over the world for the past couple
of months and they don’t disappoint. I’m very excited to finally put them out
there and have Alignment on board again!” Italian-born artist Alignment,
whose real name is Francesco Pierfelici, has emerged as an unstoppable force
in the techno world in recent years. He has had an outstanding array of vital
productions - with four previous EPs on Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT label,
including 2022’s acclaimed Attack - and his sound helps carry forward the
diversity and musical identity the label stands for. Describing his style as
“a journey to the dark corners of one’s inner self”, Alignment’s industrial
techno is reminiscent of an endless post-apocalyptic warehouse rave. ‘Close
Your Eyes’ is another exhilarating offering from the new school techno giant.

of Love”, the lavish soundtrack to the film of the same name composed by
French electronic producer and AIR founder Nicolas Godin. The 15-track album
is comprised of the score Godin contributed to the film – which just received
the Outstanding Original Score Award at the recent Cinema Eyes Honors
ceremony - as well as original music inspired by it. The album is available
March 24th. From National Geographic Documentary Films comes the
extraordinary love story of intrepid French scientists Katia and Maurice
Krafft, who died just as explosively as they lived — capturing the most
spectacular imagery ever recorded of their greatest passion: volcanoes. “When
[Director] Sara Dosa and I talked for the first time about Fire of Love, we
were wondering what kind of music would suit Katia and Maurice’s spirits the
best. We focused on the DIY experimental method they used all their life as a
film making process and I thought to myself: what if in their own lab, they
would have a tiny room full of electronic instruments and oscillators. They
would record the soundtracks of their films themselves with well-chosen
faithful collaborators. One word popped up in my mind: Homemade. No expensive
orchestra or pretentious percussion slams,” says Godin. He continues, “Coming
from the home studio recording world myself (as well as all the original
members of the so called ‘French touch’ late nineties electronic music
scene), it was easy to picture myself in Katia and Maurice’s lab, creating
sounds, noises, and melodies with a bunch of antique keyboards and analog
tape recorders. That’s how the Fire of Love soundtrack was born.” The result
of this musical work is a lush electronic krautrock score in the manner of

Circuits dives deeper in the world of playful and versatile club music with
roots in the early 90's! There's an obvious parallel between Ildec's DJ
performances and his own music. Part of a scene with a focus on extended,
broad-minded sets, the Ibiza-based artist lets his yearning to unearth and
play obscure gems flood into his production process. The "Ahora Si
EP" is testament to this adventurous spirit as it tackles a wide array
of tempos, styles and moods. Opener "El Principio" and closer
"Grt Plschr" display Ildec's fondness of hazy, recondite
atmospherics. With its sustained ambient chord, delay-washed newsreader
samples and manipulated themes, the former sounds like a fever dream radio
bulletin. On the latter, a broody motif meanders alongside loosely played
drums, while a buried bass guitar occasionally reveals itself. "El Break
Del Dia" furtherly explores some of these elements, but this time with
the dance floor front of mind. Languidly morphing bass sequences and staccato
synth salvos build up anticipation. When a slowly emerging, ceaselessly
arpeggiating organ lead finally materialises, the track explodes. Natural
flow is partly traded for sturdier form on the remainder of the EP. "El
Break De La Noche" lets an ever-modulating lead groove alongside rigid,
dry drum beats. Descending tom fills, truncated squeaks and a top layer LFO
gone haywire complete this sparse yet exciting cut. "La Nueva
Version" has a similarly efficient bassline as its bedrock. An interplay
of zaps, risers, transposed percussion, and other dusty cartridge samples
pulls it left and right while subtle disorienting hints of speech thicken the
mix. On "Modificacion", Ildec moulds his take on progressive and
tech house into its toughest shape. A druggy, bleepy lead twirls in and out
of the track, carried by the road-tested combo of a taut drum pattern and a
piercing backbeat bass. Ominous chords and equally menacing vocals mark its
aim: to create tension in the club. It is a standout on a diverse, daring EP
we are delighted to present as the fifth release on our label |

Entries’ resident scuzzmasters De-Bons-en-Pierre return with the Card Short
of a Full Deck EP, featuring six tracks of their signature sludge. In 2016,
Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti fused forces in order to infect the world
with their mutant analog strain, a noxious hybrid of 80’s DIY cassette
electronics and 90’s Birmingham techno. Card Short of a Full Deck follows
2017’s Crepes EP and 2019’s EP No. 1 and EP No. 2, all released via Dark
Entries. Their latest salvo features six tracks composed for a live
performance in 2019. While a damaged sense of whimsy has pervaded their
previous work, Card Short sees the duo ramping up the absurdity to obscene
levels. Skittering rhythms dance over ghoulish basslines and haunting,
rave-evocative chords on cuts “Le Râle du Mâle Alpha” and “Puddle Points”.
Elsewhere, like on “Card Short of a Full Deck” and “Accidental Surgeries”,
contorted vocals battle careening synths amidst post-apocalyptic waste. This

It
all started with waiting music for the city of Ghent information telephone
line. City composer Fulco Ottervanger (Cruise Lento) envisioned a music in
which waiting time would serve as an invitation to stillness and presence.
Long-term friend and producer Lieven Van Pée (Vectrex) turned out to be the
ideal companion. However, the music was never used, yet it had not missed its
magical effect. The two gentlemen were now determined to make a full ambient
album in which silence would play a leading role, both intuitive as well as
elaborated down to the smallest unit of time... An additional approach was to
make music to lull their newborn sons to sleep. With melodies simple, sounds
sweet and silences deep. Inspiration came from Haruomi Hosono's 1984 obscure
classic Watering a flower, Eric Satie's Vexations and how could it be
otherwise, John Cage's 3'44. What these progressive yet universal
compositions have in common is a refinement of repetition and both a soothing
and stimulating character. As a listener you can't help but dive into the
silence and experience an certain sweetness. The ideal record to rest to, to
wake up to and enter a wider field |

From
the two towering pillars of the Arab World’s Tarab, Om Kalsoum & Mohamed
Abdel Wahab, comes another cult classic of Wa Maret El Ayam. Umm Kulthum
needs no introduction – along with the call to prayer, her magnanimous voice
has reliably been one of the few daily constants across the Arab worlds’
sonic landscapes over the past century. From Aleppo to Alexandria, Baghdad to
Beirut and Cairo to Casablanca, in 1934 and for the following forty years her
live broadcasts on the first Thursday of each month would see streets and
workplaces deserted as millions rushed home to tune in; Umm Kulthum
triumphantly became the beating pulse of a new post-colonial Arab world
order, and the embodiment of Egypt’s cultural renaissance. Perhaps most
remarkably, she spearheaded the remoulding of gender norms across the Middle
East by setting an example of what dignified, perseverant and unabashedly
Arab women can go onto achieve – she was incredibly business-savvy, actively
engaged in public circles at the highest levels, and firmly devoted to her
career over traditional family life. Her formidable presence extended to her
fervent voice - being a contralto and in all her glory, she would stand at
least three feet away from a microphone when singing. Her exalted tone and
mastery of Maqaamat (Arabic melodic scales) allowed her to sing intricately
layered Arabic poetry while evoking in listeners, be they peasants or
aristocrats, a trance-like state of Tarab or rapturous enchantment where time
and space dissolved into the music. Egyptian novelist and Nobel laureate
Naguib Mahfouz aptly compares her to a “preacher who becomes inspired by his
congregation…..when he sees what reaches them he gives them more of it, he
works it, he refines it, he embellishes it” – perhaps this is why she was
said to have never sung a line the same way twice! Though many have attempted
over the years, Umm Kulthum’s voice has proven to be simply inimitable. Her
long-awaited and blessed union with the godfather of contemporary Arabic
music, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, finally came in circa 1965 under the auspices and
repeated urging of the widely adored Egyptian President Gamal AbdelNasser.
The “Clouds’ Rendevouz” as it came to be known, yielded cult-classics such as
Enta Omri, Amal Hayaty and Wa Maret El Ayam: the title of this release
featuring an iconic prelude with one of Abdel-Wahab’s quintessential
juxtapositions, this time a catchy Libyan folk melody. Souma Records proudly
present a long-awaited remastering of the original studio version on a
high-quality pressing housed in delicately handmade natural paper jackets.

Egyptian
King Baligh Hamdy and “The Lady” Om Kalsoum meet for the final time in her
parting ode, Hakam Aleena El Hawa. There is no Western counterpart to Umm
Kulthum, that much is clear. She was once described as having had “the
virtuosity of Ella Fitzgerald, the public persona of Eleanor Roosevelt, and
the audience of Elvis”, and the likes of Bob Dylan and Robert Plant of Led
Zeppelin count her among their ultimate sources of inspiration. Charles De
Gaulle adorned her with the title of “the Lady” and to the Arab world, she
was simply known as the “Voice of Egypt” or “Egypt’s Fourth Pyramid”. What
Umm Kulthum achieved over the course of her sixty-year trailblazing career is
nothing short of legendary; renowned for her ability to gracefully rise above
the grandeur of instrumentation, she would reincarnate melody by deftly
colouring her tone depending on each piece’s deep emotional context. Adding
to her gravitas, she had perfected the diction and pronunciation of Classical
Arabic, having committed the entire Quran to memory aged 12 - a feat that
remains to this day unmatched by any other prominent artist. Her five-hour
long performances would rapture her listeners into feeling wistful
melancholy, warming jubilation and fierce trans-nationalistic pride, all at
once. Throughout Umm Kulthum’s illustrious years in the limelight, there were
persistent rumours of a romantic relationship between her and prolific
Egyptian composer, Baligh Hamdy. The true depths of their relationship remain
a mystery, however, their collaboration as artists brought the world some of
its most prized & collectible pieces in the Arabic musical canon. Hamdy
was a powerhouse who epitomised the parlance between avant-garde oriental and
occidental arrangements with vigour and tenacity, and Umm Kulthum herself was
deeply compelled by his compositions. After delivering her the sensation that
is Alf Leila we Leila and other timeless classics, Baligh Hamdy for the final
time composes Hakam Aleena El Hawa in Umm Kulthum’s parting ode before her
death. In a hauntingly beautiful ballad, she speaks of the overwhelming
nature of love and sincere affection, over a delicately formulated Maqam
Nahawand on the Arabic melodic scale. With an intro featuring the rhythmic
fireworks of Hany Mehanna, Egyptian King of the Farfisa organ and pioneer of
the oriental synth, Souma Records proudly present a remastering of the
original studio version for The Voice of Egypt to live on. High-quality

Offering
a three track EP on Token, emblematic UK producer James Ruskin proves his
capability and linear focus once again through 'From the Ashes'. Looking past
trends to create a lasting record rich in texture and thick with impact, the
project affirms what the scene has already known to be true about his work
for the past 25 years. Setting his intentions from the A1, Ruskin wastes no
time by creating an intimidating introduction. Saturated percussion and
stuttering keys whip through a 4 minute masterclass of sound system focused
production. Adventurous in structure, Ruskin remains unquestionably in
control of a bursting, almost chaotic track. 'From the Ashes 2' picks up what
was left off, containing a hard-set groove with hi hats slithering in progressively
from the stereo image to slightly destabilize an impressive club-heavy tool.
With intricate work being done in the ambience, the EP's hard hitting second
track booms through a cavernous acoustic, giving the record not only body,
but dimension. Switching up the rhythm and focusing on more mental synth work
for the third act, Ruskin quickly and mercilessly rips through his work with
a shrill pad, creating overwhelming tension to be released in the first third
of the recording. He brings a dosed dissonance between his elements,
reflective of the qualities of vintage techno with today's capabilities and
arrangement. Pushing intensity through waves, Ruskin leaves us in
anticipation of a fourth track that is never given |

Rambadu's latest release "EN VIRON" aims to make you
see life in a new light. He experimented with a unique tuning that holds a
closer connection with our environments. Each day we go through cycles and
especially when we remove ourselves from urban areas; some of these natural
patterns become very distinct. "En Viron", in the late afternoon
life is the most vibrant and lush. The sun is high in the sky and all plants
emit a fluorescent green glow. "Ruutan", as the sun sets the
creatures of the night slowly take over, filling the calm darkness with high
pitched rattling noises that keep dancing in our inner ears.
"Zaouia", when the morning comes the first birds will sing and
almost sound like an alarm that announces a new sequence and day. The sounds

jungle techno. From UDR003 onwards the hardcore techno elements were
abandoned as the scene and label evolved into straight up jungle and drum
& bass. 29 years later, DJ Jedi's first outing on Underdog Recordings is
a very welcome return to our Hardcore Jungle Techno roots as he delivers
"Prophecy E.P". on the label. The Prophecy and The Cube take us on
a journey through the Jungle Techno and then on the flip "Dance with The
