Metroplex continues its run of reissues with two more seminal
releases from the label's golden back catalog. First off is Catalog number
M003, aka late 80's Metroplex electro staple Channel One, a Juan Atkins joint
with Doug Craig (Carl Craig's cousin) on vocals. Futuristic and playful
techno from the late 80s which soundwise evolves from Cybotron and the
obvious Kraftwerk influences. Juan Atkins said about the release in a 2005
interview that "it was more fun than politically driven, just about the
colors and combination spread from colors". An important release in the
history of Techno from both a cultural and creative perspective. Channel
One's technicolor has been carefully remastered from the original tapes.

Sonores at Bozar in Brussels, Belgium on October 12, 2022. Tomorrow Comes The
Harvest is the accumulative efforts of talented musicians and their visions
about what makes the art form of music so special. A theory initiated and put
into action by late Afro Beat creator and Nigerian Drummer Tony Allen and
Detroit Techno's Jeff Mills. Each belonging to a long tradition of using
music to reach higher levels of consciousness, along with veteran keyboardist
Jean-Phi Dary, the three toured internationally until the untimely death of
Tony Allen in 2020. However, the foundation of the concept was cemented and
ready for continuation. Mills reconfigures the concept to function as trio
once again and invites Tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard to join the concept.
Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is about exploring the unknown, transcending by
the way of intersecting sounds and rhythm through an array of improvisational
movements |

includes all his typical styles and ranges from hard jacking Acid House over
weirdo Electro House to old school Chicagoleaning Piano House. A timeless

You
may not know Maedon, the artist formerly known as pulsewidthmod, but you will
soon; she has been pulverizing select dance floors with live sets since her
arrival in Brooklyn late summer of 2018. Shrouded in mystery, there is one
thing known about her, she's a wizard with the hardware driven by some fierce
passion for the music. After having toured across the country on her own, she
released a 12" EP with the highly-respected Detroit Underground. Now she
is ready to bring her work to the next level with a hardhitting EP that
epitomizes her sound on Adam X's legendary Sonic Groove label. The label, of
course, is known for delivering some of the hardest and intricate records in
EBM and industrial, having releases from Rebekah, Dasha Rush, and Orphx.
"Against His Will" opens with the uncompromising 'Illusion' and its
all-out destructive energy. Industrious and unforgiving synths dominate this
cut, while a riff shifts in and out of chaos. The unrelenting percussion
almost calls out like demons, as if you're making your way down the river
Styx, but instead of a boat, you're on a mechanical conveyor belt. Tasked
with the difficult job of following that opener is 'Limited Hangout' which
ends up proving as powerful as the first. A bit more punchy, this track has
more body to it, the percussion is enchanting, and through all the chaos you
will be dancing and stomping. Next up is 'Special Report' in an attempt to
tame and focus the disarray. The track has less overall unpredictable
texture, and more EBM flared body banging beats. Still an absolute
powerhouse, it uses door-pounding percussion to drive it along with modulated
synths and riffs generating a menacing presence. 'Alchemy' brings the
proceedings to a close. The textured cut is a slow down to things.
Well-thought-out and more EBM than industrial, it demonstrates Maedon's
dynamic range of skills. Rhythmic drum patterns sway the beat while swirling
and electric modulations percolate and oscillate throughout. The dark stabs
evoke an underground feel, and although the track evokes smokestacks and
assembly lines, it is inherently primal |

Lovely
atmospheric ambient sounds on this new Lapsus release! Composer,
percussionist, and multidisciplinary artist RRUCCULLA is undoubtedly one of
the most eclectic projects to emerge from Spain in recent times, combining
abstraction, plasticity and experimentation with an uncommon mastery. Since
her first impact on the electronic "headz" scene with SHuSH [Sound
Sketches, 2018], the Basque producer has been carefully distilling her new
album Zeru Freq., which will be released on Barcelona's Lapsus record label.
The album is wide-ranging, interweaving sound and art that transports the
listener into an immersive universe. Zeru Freq. envelops us in a Euskadi
environment, guiding us through an open-air museum, containing a collection
of eleven sound productions that fuse nature, landscapes and the local
climate. This epic musical journey incorporates organic frequencies painted
in Technicolor, in which hyper-realistic synthesizer textures merge with
acoustic instruments, resulting in an atmospheric ambient sound that warps
our perceptions of reality. At a sonic level the unmistakable stamp of
RRUCCULLA is omnipresent, but this time she climbs to even higher plains.
Zeru Freq. explores an expanded aural palette, traversing the borders of
strictly electronic music, while laying the foundations for a new audio
discourse. Throughout its eleven tracks, RRUCCULLA embraces the broadest
spectrum of contemporary music, flirting with avant-garde electronica at

Northern Electronics, Vallmo (appellation of Melina Akerman Kvie) strengthens
her proficiency towards an electronic elevation with each and every track
being a crevice offering kaleidoscopic gleams into a poetic narrative extracted
from the slightly autotuned yet softly metallic voice. What Virgil is to
Dante, the piano is to the listener: a fragmented leitmotif and a guiding
cicerone into the nimbus that is "Othem". Dual in nature, the album
comprises seamless transitions between divergent idioms, figuratively as well
as literally. A false dichotomy conveying the opposing pairs tender and bold,
distinct but evading and with a direction every so often forward as inward.

Alarico
returns to Mutual Rytm with his 'Drops Of You' EP, packed with his
mind-bending signature rhythms while focussing on a more minimal and
atemporal approach than before. Milan-based artist Alarico has firmly arrived
on the world stage in recent years. Taking cues from the harder realms of
techno of the 90s, he adds his own quirky rhythms and quickened sense of
groove to showcase his modern take on the genre. Building on material
dropping via his own Katana Records, with high-profile support from bigname
DJs across the scene, he breaks new ground again here on this compelling new
EP as he returns to SHDW's label Mutual Rytm with 'Drops Of You'. Excellent
opener '0 Kelvin' races out of the blocks with wiry synths and percussion
that sounds like knives being sharpened, all over tight, punchy techno drums.
'One More' then gets more twisted with freaky synth line scurrying about the
mix while hammering hits and bouncy drum programming races onwards into an
unknown future. 'Asma' slips into a deeper but no less impactful groove - the
tightly coiled drum funk is overlaid with soulful vocal whispers and militant
snares that cannot fail to sweep dancers away. Next, the slick 'Sunburn'
keeps the pace high and is another warp-speed techno excursion with bold drum
patterns and dry hi-hats cutting up the beats. It's a fulsome sound fleshed
out with great synth detail and euphoric vocal cries, before closer 'Drops Of
You' layers broken beats, vocal snippets and psychedelic synth colours into
an intense and emotional workout. Alongside the vinyl cuts, three
digital-only offerings are also loaded into this one as a trio of treats in
the form of 'Sino', 'What For' and 'Erased', with each track harnessing pacy,
energetic rhythms, a mix of bright and murky sonics, and tunnelling grooves

Moving to England for its second release, Rant & Rave
Records presents a proper EP from South Wales-based producer JoeFarr, known
for his dancefloor jams on labels such as: 'SLAM', 'Arts', and his most
recent success with 2019's epic 12" 'Death Becomes Us'. On the a-side
'In This Anger', which JoeFarr has written with Louisahhh, an anxiously dark,
slowly developing atmosphere menaces behind a slow rolling, broken beat for
maximum effect. This is punctuated by dark, slightly distorted female vocals
with sporadic lyrics subtly encouraging its dance floors to move.. and think.
Signature hard and bouncy grooves with infectious in-yer-face techno riffs
dominate the rest of the EP with tracks 'Laced Up', 'You Can See Me' and 'You
will See Me (Hardcore)', effortlessly weaving in and out of the pulsating
groove with an interesting palette of machine sounding synths and heavily
processed vocals |

2023 repress - Following his UK Chart Top Ten worthy
collaboration earlier this year, we're thrilled to announce the next release
from artist-of-the-moment, Interplanetary Criminal. Coming On Strong marks
IPC's fifth Time Is Now release, and sees him collaborate with two TIN family
members. Whilst the first collaboration sees Killa P's inimitable flow
animate a brooding dark garage beat, the second has fun and playfulness at
its core. How could it not? IPC teams up with good pal Main Phase on raucous
a number that takes its swung bassline from dubstep. The following two tracks
'Beat Work' and 'Coming On Strong' are no more po-faced. The former boasts
IPC's innovative prowess, the kind of track you'll have to hear it to believe
it: expect metallic cowbells, a squelchy 4x4 pulse and skippy vocal chop,
later bolstered by a rude warped bassline. The latter sees the suggestions of

It
is always our pleasure to have new talents in the house, and we've been
following Notzing's development since long ago. His approach to techno is
absolutely personal and complex, hard and intrincated, mental and physical.
Protae is the first missile in this box full of weapons, a super busy techno
exercise with compacted drums, drilling synth lines and random metallic hits
breaking the monotony. The effect on the floor is devastating and has been
tested extensively in dancefloors worldwide by label owner Oscar Mulero in
the past months. 7 minutes of pure dancefloor mayhem. Fagus continues with
the sickness, with hysterical synth washe repeating an hypnotic chant, adding
layers of sound as the groove goes by. Repetition is here the key to proper
trance, not exactly with pleasant tones but by aggression. Ekaterin is gummy
and elastic with formant synth sounds chewing frequencies and changing
constantly in shape. Another mental mantra with a physical drive. Molniya
slows down the pace and dives into profound sound scapes full of unnatural
underwater sounds and washes providing a feeling of scuba diving. To end this
sonic odyssey, Emision goes completely beatless, growing from the profound
sub bass frequencies to crispy and crunchy surface noises, creating the
soundtrack of floating in outer space with no gravity. Please beware of the
super intense bass tones when playing on a big sound system. The perfect
combination of experimentation and punchiness, keep an eye on this guy, is
gonna make some proper noise in the coming years |

dark wall of sound opens the release sporting an gargantuan bassline and

Charlotte
de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano have come together to serve up a very
personal remix of the hugely influential self-titled classic by Age Of Love.
It lands on the original Belgian label Diki Records on August 13th next to
the legendary Jam & Spoon 'Watch Out For Stella Mix' and the original
vocal mix from 1990. Age Of Love wrote and released their most iconic track
in 1990. It went on to become a stone-cold dance classic that inspired a
whole trance movement that has endured throughout the years. The track was
originally released on one of the most iconic trance labels in Belgium's
history and has been specially remastered for this 2021 release. The idea to
remix 'Age Of Love' started taking shape when KNTXT boss Charlotte was in
lockdown with esteemed Italian techno artist Enrico at the end of February
last year. As soon as the track was finished, it was played in several live
streams and the online community quickly fell in love. The remix bears all
the hallmarks of both producers, who between them have a number of Beatport
hits and have crafted everything from the darkest drums to the most emotional
synths to great effect. Say Charlotte and Enrico, "It's a very
meaningful track for both of us, for various reasons, and it brings back many
joyful memories. Remixing such a legendary track was a super fun thing to do,
but we noticed how easily and spontaneously we could work together in the
studio. We are beyond excited to finally unleash our remix to the world. And
this at a time where the world finally seems to be going back to normal.
There is no better time for a New Age Of Love. We're ready." 'Age Of

- a track which will take you right back to early Progression Sessions days -

metallic beats and relaxing padwork. The track develops continually with
soothing melodies and amens added into the mix, resulting in a stunning and
varied collage of finely tuned elements that never sound too busy to the ear
- JLM Productions, welcome back! A2 - Derealization: Changing things up while
still showcasing the ability to combine a crazy level of detail into a
cohesive mix, Derealization is a suspenseful, slightly moody track with JLM
Productions laying down distinctive snappy breakbeats and sudden, fierce
bassy hits, with tension rising from the eerie synthwork to envelop the
listener throughout a track which demands repeated listens and will surely do
damage on the discerning dancefloor. AA1 - Quadrature: With a vibe
reminiscent of his output in the mid-90's Reinforced era, JLM Productions
drops Quadrature which takes that inspiration and brings it right up to date
for Spatial in 2023, effortlessly combining synthetic breaks with understated
echoing bongos, restless wavy notes and old school melodies punctuating the
immersive atmosphere of the piece. This one thoroughly deserves pride of

Velocity: Continuing the old school theme, Translight Velocity quickly shows
it's intent with inspired off-key notes before a lesson in joyous 90's style
breakbeats leaps out of the speakers - not a single head in the room will be
still with this on deck! Bouncy basslines and finely crafted drums from a
variety of break samples jump around chaotically, sending your mind to the

Kuro is one of the best Japanese
hardcore bands of all time. While they never released an album, their Who the
Helpless 8" EP is one of the most feral and crushing early Japanese
hardcore records. The sound resembles Fuckheads-era Gauze or G-Zet in that
you can tell Discharge is the base of the soup, but the playing is more
precise, a little cleaner, and with an emphasis on heaviness and grit rather
than pure density. People often remark that there's a Motorhead-esque quality
to a lot of the best Japanese hardcore, and that's the case here, though the
vocals are shredded, up there with John Brannon or Jerry A in intensity |

Confuse was a noise punk hardcore
band that started in Kyushu, Japan. They released a few records
('Indignation', 'Nuclear Addicts', 'Contempt For The Authority And Take Off
The Lie', 'Atrocious Madness', and 'Stupid Life') throughout the time they
were around. They started off with a really raw noise Discharge type style
and then evolved into a bouncier, more melodic sound. Awesomely weirdly
produced noise thrash that just tears out your eardrums. Definitely insane |

Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust, his most famous alter-ego, in front of 5000
stunned fans at London's Hammersmith Odeon. Now, the fully restored film and
soundtrack will be released for the first time for the 50th anniversary of
the show. Renowned filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Monterey Pop, Bob Dylan - Don't
Look Back, Depeche Mode - 101) captured the momentous event by filming Bowie
and The Spiders From Mars backstage and onstage. Although filmed 50 years
ago, the film was not widely seen for over a decade. However, the film and
its soundtrack have been newly remastered with the medley of 'The Jean
Genie/Love Me Do' medley and 'Round And Round' featuring the late legendary
Jeff Beck reinstated - the latter track making its very first appearance
anywhere. Both performances were newly mixed by long-time Bowie collaborator
Tony Visconti. The show featured Bowie's famous speech just before the final
encore, 'Rock 'n' Roll Suicide', where he revealed that he was retiring the
Ziggy Stardust persona. The shocking announcement came as a surprise to all
in attendance – including members of his band and was the first proclamation
of its kind in rock and roll |

Handy, who probes a queered zone between the bandy-legged funk of Cylob and
the sound of Evol on a bender with SOPHIE. A perfectly curdled addition to
the label's 2018 campaign, the Smacker EP follows aces by Russell Haswell and
The Modern Institute with a necessary helping of deviant cheekiness across
four tracks of prodded, squeezed and fondled fonq. Here for a good time, each
track says its piece in a popwise blatz of daftness at the recommended 45rpm,
which becomes only sleazier, stickier at 33rpm, if the mood takes you. Up
top, that results in the comically tart and ruddy juzz-fank spanking of Oink
and the speedy elastic scramble of Stretch, whilst underneath you'll catch
the hyper coloured splashback of Spit and the nutty Talk Box workout, Dump.

Carl
Finlow keeps on keepin' on. Not only is Finlow one of the most respected
names in electro, a producer who boasts a sprawling catalogue that takes in a
wide variety of aliases, but he's also spent recent years establishing
himself as a mainstay for Sheffield's Central Processing Unit label. Soft
Robotics, the new EP from Finlow's Silicon Scally project, is the fifth
Silicon Scally release in five years to boast one of CPU's
instantly-recognisable black-and-white covers. The reason that Silicon Scally
and CPU keep linking up is simple; they're a perfect fit for one another.
Central Processing Unit has established itself as a haven for post-Drexciya
producers since launching in 2012, and there are few artists better than
Finlow at building on the Detroit group's sound. The union bears fruit once
more on Soft Robotics, an EP of lithe machine-funk jams that will both do
damage in the dance and also reward more concentrated home listening. Things
begin at a steadier speed than one might expect. Rather than barrelling off
with the kind of sinewy roller one associates with the CPU name, Soft
Robotics' title-track takes things at mid-pace. The groove reveals itself
without hurry, Silicon Scally adding or subtracting elements - twitchy
modular loops, pensive pads, the occasional blurt of low-end - atop the
chugging bass/drums groove. It's a track which wins you over with guile
rather than force. As the name of subsequent cut 'Jitters' intimates, this
one picks things up a little after 'Soft Robotics'. The tempo is higher here,
the central beat more nervy. At their cores, though, 'Jitters' and 'Soft
Robotics' are kindred spirits. Here, another slyly insistent bit of drum
programming comes swirled up with all sorts of extraterrestrial tones, from
little nuggets of melody supplied by the keys to electrifying synth stabs and
percussive squelches. Things limber up further still on first B-side 'Spin
Ratio'. The track's 808 kicks are punchier than those of the A-side jams, and
there's a dizziness to the bass tone which gives 'Spin Ratio' an intriguingly
off-kilter feel. Atop the booming beat we find ourselves hypnotised by cells
of melody and harmony interlocking or moving apart - particularly the
staccato module at the track's heart. Sure enough, 'Spin Ratio' is the Soft
Robotics joint which cleaves closest to Drexciya, invoking other Detroit
disciples like Jensen Interceptor in the process. After Soft Robotics picks
up speed in the middle, closer 'Super Fluid Tones' brings us back to where we
started. This track returns to the more measured delivery of the record's
opener - there's a steady pulse to the drums, and once again Silicon Scally
packs the mix with so many intriguing whizzes, bangs, blips and blurts that
it's impossible not be won over by this tune's construction. 'Soft Robotics'
and 'Super Fluid Tones' bookend Soft Robotics very nicely, and Silicon
Scally's smart pacing gives the EP a lovely ebb and flow. The ever-excellent
Carl Finlow drops a Silicon Scally release via Central Processing Unit for
the fifth year running. Like its predecessors, Soft Robotics is an excellent
and deftly-crafted collection of modern machine-funk |

Seminal
EBM-techno outfit Code Industry surfaces on Dark Entries with a reissue of
their Structure EP. Detroit-based musicians Rob Myers, E.N. Sevy, Kyl Crys,
and William Keith formed Code Industry in 1989 following their previous
project, Code Assault. Among the few Black artists working in the idioms of
EBM and industrial during their time, Code Industry tackle issues of racism,
the media, and the hypocrisy of patriotism. The band’s frigid synths and
menacingly whispered vocals display their affinity for European EBM acts like
Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb, but their adventurous production and high- tech
grooves situate their work equally within the Detroit techno continuum. The
Structure EP was originally released in 1991 via the legendary Antler-Subway label.
On its six tracks, Code Assembly expand upon Method of Assembly, their debut
album from the year prior, while presenting striking new work hinting at the
development of their sound. On “Behind the Mask (Image Mix)”, the band
reworks one of the hits from Method of Assembly into a leaner, more kinetic
form, finely sculpted for maximum dancefloor impact. The instrumental “Fury”
shows the outfit pushing harder into the then-nascent Detroit techno sound,
with spare synths and disembodied vocal snippets. Meanwhile, brooding
downtempo cuts like “Ail” and “Crimes Again the People” imbue their cyberpunk
aesthetics with politically-charged rage. Code Industry illustrates the depth
of techno and EBM’s mutual entanglement while addressing political struggles
that still embroil us in 2023. This reissue of Structure includes a
double-sided insert with lyrics and liner notes by Pen Jackson aka E.N. Sevy.
It will be released on Juneteenth as a celebration of powerful Black American
music |

Belgian
jazz veterans W.E.R.F. records and JazzLab are celebrating their 30th
anniversary together with three unique creation projects for which they are
joining forces. One of them is with percussionist Chris Joris, a veteran of
Belgian jazz who is releasing a haunting new project. Until the Darkness
Fades' immediately says something about Chris Joris' career path, in which
the musical and the personal invariably overlap. This percussionist has
written one of the most colorful chapters of Belgian jazz. For many years he
was active within various genres, but is now mostly praised as the
percussionist who constantly demolished boundaries. Not only between all
those oppressive genre boxes - pop, experiment, theater, world music, jazz -
but also between complete worlds. Chris Joris was playing "world
jazz" long before there was that term, and he signed on for some
hot-blooded jazz classics, with "Out Of The Night" perhaps the
best-known example. That album was originally released in 2003, was then
unavailable for years, but is back on shelves in 2023 and on vinyl for the
first time. And rightfully so. Joris also eagerly seized the prospect of a
new tour and a brand new album for a musical self-portrait. With "Until
the Darkness Fades," he highlights different aspects of his musical
identity, both expected and unexpected. Joris composed new material, but also
keeps a prominent place for free improvisation. It will be a tantalizing
dichotomy full of hybrid sounds, with familiar and less familiar sounds,
between romanticism and uninhibited adventure. He explores these in the
presence of notable associates on violin and cello. In this way, he combines
earthy percussion with the freedom of jazz and the elegance of chamber music.
