Back
in the 1990s video games were still largely seen as nerdy: fun, sure, but
basically a guilty pleasure that you'd soon grow out of. The release in 1995
of wipE'out'', a lightning-fast, razor-sharp, futuristic racing game that
helped to launch the PlayStation in Europe and North America, changed all
that. This was a game that looked and sounded both adult and cool, the kind
of game you would put on display in your living room, rather than hide away
under your bed. Key to this was the fact that wipE'out'' borrowed unashamedly
from the clubbing experience and electronic music, in a way that put it at
the heart of progressive mid 90s culture. It soon became a phenomenon.
wipE'out'' looked sensational, with Sheffield agency The Designers Republic -
known for their work with Warp - creating the visuals, packaging and manual
for the game, drawing heavily on the bright colours and excitable geometric
shapes of the rave and club flyers of the early 90s. wipE'out'' also sounded
like a new rave dream. The European version of the game included music from
The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield and Orbital, the kind of fashionable game
syncs that were almost unheard of at the time. Equally striking was the
game's original music, which came from Welsh musician Tim Wright, aka CoLD
SToRAGE, by this point already a veteran in the video games world, having
worked on the music for Amiga titles such as Lemmings and Shadow of the Beast
2. His music for wipE'out'' was, if anything, even more extreme than the
big-name syncs, mixing the accelerated beats of drum & bass with the pure
synth rush of trance to make music that sounded as breathlessly exciting as
playing the game felt. These tracks were burned into the brains of millions
of gamers; the soundtrack to a generation of late-night anti-gravity racing,
as the sun gingerly rose beyond the curtains. But they haven't, perhaps,
quite got the respect they deserve, something that this release will address.
In 2023, video game music is finally getting its dues; here, remastered and
repackaged -and also remixed by cutting edge producers such as Kode9, ?-Ziq,
Brainwaltzera, Simo Cell, Wordcolour, James Shinra, Surgeons Girl and
Dattassette- are some of the most important, thrilling, innovative and most
fun songs ever committed to game release |

Brazil's Zopelar continues to

American jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal featuring performances recorded at Jamal's

in color vinyl. Formed on a grim council estate in Edinburgh in 1979 by
singer Terry Buchan and guitarist Stevie Ross with bassist Alan Paget and
drummer Andy McNiven, The Exploited became one of the most popular and
notorious of all hardcore punk bands. When they signed to Secret Records in
1981 for debut LP Punks Not Dead, Terry had been replaced by his ex-soldier
brother Wattie (who became group leader thereafter), with guitarist Big John
Duncan, drummer Dru Stix, and bassist Gary McCormack, by the time Let's Start
A War was released, the group featured Wattie's brother Willie on drums and
Billy Dunn on bass, while Horror Epics had Wayne Tyas on bass and Karl
Egghead' Morris on guitar. That same line-up is featured on Live At The
Whitehouse, a riveting and lengthy performance recorded in Washington DC in
April 1985, highlights includes the opening "Let's Start A War,"
dedicated to Argentina, a swear-ridden "God Save The Queen," a take
of "Rival Leaders" aimed at Reagan and Thatcher, "I Hate
You" (with a reverse Jello Biafra reference), a castigating "Daily
News" aimed at fanzine Maximum Rock n Roll, and a rousing "Punks
Not Dead" encore |

After discovering Marie Lung’s set on HÖR and being blown away by her
performances on the channel consistently, we contacted the artist to see if

evocative house records that we play constantly in the Dreaming Forever
offices. A spaced out remix from the inimitable Vril and a super classy

Sub
Signals Vol.2 is a deep dive into underground bass, guided by artist and
producer Gaudi. Featuring predominantly unreleased originals and versions by
some of the biggest names in the worldwide dub collective, it intricately
combines analogue elements with digital grooves to stunning effect. Much more
than just a compilation, the Sub Signals series is a celebration of the
evolution of the sound of dub, from its original roots in reggae to its
fusion with a much wider spectrum of sounds and influences. Gaudi curated the
first volume back in 2006 for the cult Canadian label Interchill, sourcing
tracks and dubs from High Tone, Zion Train, Manasseh, Almamegretta,
Noiseshaper, Creation Rebel, Greg Hunter, Dubadelic and more. 15 years on,
Gaudi has created the second volume, blending contributions by established
reggae names Steel Pulse, Dennis Bovell and African Head Charge with next
generation dub producers Alpha Steppa, Radikal Guru and Paolo Baldini
Dubfiles, headline acts Groove Armada, Dub FX and The Orb with underground
artists Deadbeat, Pitch Black and SUBSET, to create a seamless 75 minute mix.
“With Volume 2, I wanted to create a deep vibrational experience by shaping
an aural trajectory that encompassed the many aspects of dub and its related
sub-frequencies. To achieve my goal, I reached out to the artists I regularly
work with to ask for contributions, in some cases digging in their archives
to find what I was looking for.” As a solo artist, Gaudi has recorded over 20
albums, while as a producer he has hundreds of productions under his belt. He
has worked with legends of the reggae and electronic music worlds including
Lee "Scratch" Perry, Horace Andy, Dub Pistols, Hollie Cook, Youth,
Mad Professor, Prince Fatty, Lamb, Trentemøller and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Dedicated to the sound of dub in its many forms, Gaudi’s latest excursion of
his Sub Signals series is pure bass therapy, designed to excite your eardrums

Little
Jimmy (born Marc Claeys in ‘44) is The Original Belgian Blues Tiger! In 2019
he turns 75, celebrates his 60th birthday as a musician and releases his new
album ‘Blues Rebel’. You got to know this guy! In the early 60s, Bluescoryfee
Roland Van Campenhout first witnessed a performance by Little Jimmy before he
started making music himself. Describing Little Jimmy as The Godfather Of
Belpop for that reason does not dishonor the man at all. It’s also true since
Little Jimmy is a pioneer pur sang. As one of the first Flemish people he got
to know overseas music. In ‘58 he bought an electric guitar and in ‘66 he
played in Schaerbeek as support act for The Rolling Stones. Despite the
fascinating history Little Jimmy can still be seen as a true discovery at the
age of 75. So far the bluesman has enjoyed a rather obscure reputation,
averse to trends and commercial interests. In that sense, ‘Blues Rebel’ feels
like a fresh, contemporary debut. For
Little Jimmy, music is a way of life in which inspiration is central. The
pastry chef’s son from Ledeberg, who has lived in Brussels for years now, has
a rather rebellious character and has been leading a musical course in his
own unique way for decades. Add to that the man’s small stature and
flamboyant appearance and a certain unpredictable craziness arises that
inspires. That’s what Tiny Legs Tim thought and he encouraged Little Jimmy to
record a new album. “Jimmy is one of the few white blues men who in sound and
atmosphere comes close to the primeval blues of R.L. Burnside and John Lee
Hooker”, says Tim. “Someone like Jimmy can and may not be coached too much
but as a ‘producer’ at his service I wanted to offer him the best possible
conditions to let him be his credible self.” |

The Skatalites, The Sound Dimension were perhaps the most important group in

by the fact that they mostly functioned as the in-house studio group at

'Back From the Woodshed,' a 12" EP that showcases a finely-tuned sound
and improved groove, marking this comeback on Danza Tribale. The opening
track, 'The Best Yet,' features the vocals of Crystal Boyd-a familiar voice
for those in the know, as she made her debut appearance with L'estasi on
Voodoo Down 001 in 2012. Sadie LaPierre Ernst, known for her lyrical
contributions on Field Records and Macro Recordings since 2015, lends her
voice once again on this release. Label owner Adiel offers a high-speed remix
that complements Sadie's words with a steady gallop. The overall aesthetic of
this record is beautifully encapsulated in 'The Marsh Flower, a Sad Human
Head,' drawing inspiration from Odilon Redon's original illustration from
1885. The EP concludes with a beatless edit of 'The Best Yet' under
L'estasi's resurrected Penalune alias-a project that debuted over a decade

first bunch of remixes for Kito Jempere's Green Monster. The album itself was
a versatile journey thought all music styles and patterns you can imagine,
remixes are keeping the same direction. EP opens with a remix from
multi-talented and prolific studio genius Ewan Pearson, the man behind
hundreds of remixes, production and studio engineering duties for artists
like Tracey Thorn, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, The Chemical Brothers and
many many more. And Mr Pearson is taking Kabwato on a journey! Originally
recorded as two and half minutes as some say mid-album filler, this boat
(kabwato in chewa language) is going deep down the tropical river and through
breezy morning rainforest valleys. A perfect trip for your midday staying
home alone errands or for your early morning ray of light at the bar with a
beautiful panorama. Same track is getting treatment from the mighty Cable
Toy! Unmistakable peak time euphoria manifest - going back to my roots-esque
piano meets 90s cable tv dance show house party! On the flip is the remix by
The Dawless. The Dawless are Ramil' Goddeem from LAUD and Sergey Gol'd,
producer and owner of GoldxFish Music studio. They recently released their
debut album "Broken Aux" on System 108, got remixed by DMX Crew and
became residents of LOUD BOYZ label. The project has simple ethics: computers
not allowed, only real gear and vibes. The duo has created a true rage rave
anthem for Kito Jempere now. Having already been played in a lot of DJ-sets
blasting through packed warehouses, now it became available to everyone. EP
closing opus is by Kito's frequent collaborator - UK born and Japan based

received MXMN002, SAMA is back on his own imprint with his third release. 4
tracks, all centered around a general theme; each track consists of textural
soundscapes and heavy growl-like sounds, but with vastly different flavours.
Whereas "There's Not A lot To Say" is the most subdued and
atmospheric track, "Benefit The Masses" is the more in-yourface
track, driven by a heavy broken-beat kick pattern. On the B-side,
"Fragments Of Distrust" is a more tribal and groovy track, and to
top it off "Gentle Reminder" is the most driving track, with a
forward-pushing locked groove. Long story short: there should be a track in

2023 repress - Berlin-based
producer Ignez makes his first full length appearance away from his own
respected Somov Records stable, bringing his well-crafted blend of organic
minimal techno to SK_eleven with the "Anahata EP". The EP builds on
the strong momentum gained over the five self-releases since 2020, leading
first with the urgent, trance-inducing "Sahasrara" that builds
steadily over a rolling groove littered with natural sound fragments, whilst
"Motion" drives forward and explores the spaces in between. The
tense "Anahata" is more menacing in its intent, letting off vicious
synth swipes amidst tight, shuffling percussion whereas "Kaag X"
runs into the red with its muscular groove, cavernous sub-bass and raw,

Italian producer Giuseppe Scaccia
aka D-leria, affiliated with labels such as Avian, Semantica and Non Series,
debuts on Sublunar with his 'Contrasto' ep. The ep showcases Scaccia's
ability to move between the most classic techno to the most futuristic, while
maintaining his own well-defined and recognisable identity. The record opens
with the dirty groove and hypnotic vocals of 'Carioca', before moving on to
the more classic and edgy sound of 'Disorder', a secret weapon produced in
2016 and played in every set by the artist. This is followed by the tribal,

Internal Sync are Jackspot and
Calapez, a Portuguese duo that made fame within a short period of time. On
Fortek their deep techno cut “Dif Dif”. A rough bassline supplies for the
bounce and the minimal drum programming hits the spot. The duo go crazy with
a housey juno-esque synth, a floor banger for sure. On the b-side we have
Fortek wonderchild “Mr. Stefan Tretau” on remix duties. He takes Dif Dif into
even deeper territories adding a tech-club feel a la Ame and Charles Webster.

Twenty-one
years after its initial release in 2002, Groove Armada’s seminal Another Late
Night compilation gets a heavyweight vinyl reissue courtesy of longtime label
collaborators Late Night Tales. Boasting eighteen tracks lovingly selected by
the esoteric cratediggers (including the duo’s uber-rare cover of ‘Fly Me To
The Moon’), the 70-minute collection - hailed as a 'groovy concoction of
cabaret music, cocktail house, old school funk and a bit of hip hop' by
Resident Advisor - takes us on a journey through downtempo bliss via the
occasional dancefloor filler and more than one opportunity for the listener
to start shakin’ their ass. In this Another Late Night compilation, Groove
Armada have achieved the tricky task of delivering a mix that gives a flavour
of the dancefloor while simultaneously offering something that can be
consumed lying gingerly on a chaise-longue while being wafted with palm
fronds by scantily clad belly dancers. See you on the veranda. “I remember
the first one really well. We did it in a really horrible flat that I lived
in on Seven Sisters Road where we also did a couple of early remixes that
were great, so there was some good output at that time. I remember doing the
‘Fly Me To The Moon’ cover, because whenever Andy’s near a piano, he just
defaults to playing that tune. It’s his thing. That was super simple, that
one, because it was just Andy playing the piano and a real slowed-down

Kobza
Vajk is a Hungarian self-taught psychedelic folk musician who has been
playing the oud and other obscure stringed instruments, like kithara or the
lute for more than 15 years. His main influences are folk and ancient music
of all kinds, what brings these together is his contemporary approach of
composing and the oriental technique he plays his instruments with. This
release focuses on his original work from the late 2000's with a few
reinterpretations coming from established e-music producers. The title track
is a live recording from 2008, perfectly setting the mood for the whole EP:
psychedelic shaman music with powerful oud chords and a hypnotic Middle
Eastern atmosphere. In his remix Dutch producer, Perdu keeps one of the main
patterns of the original but by adding some extra percussion he turns it into
an entranced tribal banger. Next up is Multi Culti boss, Dreems, who
revisited one of the most famous Hungarian folk songs creating a uniquely
interesting piece with dubish subs and the twisted main melody. The final
track is a more carefully tempered but yet driving remix by Hungarian
producer and Budabeats staple, Bété (aka Suhov) |

Erik
Sumo is one of the most established Hungarian music producers of the last 20
years. His various acts gained national and international, underground and
mainstream success, he scored movies - think of the now cult ‘Liza, The Fox
Fairy’ soundtrack on one of our early 7”-s. His latest album ‘Mount Fuji’
came out in November 2019, it contains ‘Run Into The Wild’, an odd yet catchy
leftfield floor filler with an unmistakable mood built of glamorous disco
vibes and sinister imaginings from the woods around Fujisan and. On this EP
you can hear the previously unreleased disco dub version of the song and 3
remixes bringing the original to completely different directions. Mytron
& Ofofo of Multiculti fame chose to go the tribal way by adding some
extra percussion and reconstructing the chorus making the track even more
dance floor friendly than it was originally. Oakland based producer E. Live
turned the tune into a contemporary boogie burner, while Budabeats staple
M.W.D.’s version has an atmosphere that is impossible to describe. Limited to
