CA. Most of the songs on this album were from the first night, such as the
solos performed by Eddie Van Halen and Sammy Hagar. The album contains a
bunch of David Lee Roth-era songs (including Van Halen's arrangement of 'You
Really Got Me' by The Kinks). As was the case with all tours with Hagar, the
band focused on songs from the new album, Hagar's solo material and covers

Following the success of the
Who's Quadrophenia and The Jam's stunning debut LP, Britain was hit by a
full-on mod revival, the scene mushrooming in the late l97Os and early 8Os.
To showcase the phenomenon, Bridgehouse Records staged a gala concert in Canning
Town in May l979, featuring Secret Affair, the Mods, Squire, Beggar, and
other acts, many of whom hailed from the Big Smoke's suburban edges. This
edition comes complete with two bonus tracks from the revered Merton Parkas,
a short-lived group that featured future Dexy's Midnight Runners and Style
Council main man, Mick Talbot. A must for all mod die-hards! |

At the time of its release, in
early 1978 "Chinese Restaurant" showed a certain impact. It was
recorded between London and Milano, during the second half of 1977. The
results were not really punk rock, but "post punk" or even some sort
of "proto post punk" would be adequate. It is something more in the
direction of bands such as Ultravox!, Stranglers and Suicide rather than Sex
Pistols and Ramones, due to the use of electronic keyboards, obsessive
rhythms, tense harmonies, and scratching vocals emerging from generally dark
sound textures. "Chinese Restaurant" was definitely ahead of its
time, especially in terms of Italian rock. Chrisma had their own authentic
glory and the minimum we can do is to celebrate it with a beautiful
"sacred vinyl" reissue |

After a debut single in 1977,
forward/thinking Edinburgh punk band The Rezillos signed to Sire, leading the
band to record their acclaimed debut Can't Stand the Rezillos in New York,
where co-produced Bob Clearmountain drew out the best of their abilities. The
anthemic 'Top of the Pops' reached the UK top-20 and spirited punk covers of
The Dave Clark Five's 'Glad All Over,' Gerry & The Pacemakers' Like It'
and Fleetwood Mac's omebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight' added
to the appeal. The band would soon split and reform as The Revillos, but
nothing beats the power of this unmatched debut LP. 4 bonus tracks included,

were taken from a 2nd or 3rd generation dub of the original recording which
was sped up by approximately 8 per cent. This manipulation allowed the full
recording to fit on one LP. This release is culled from the original master
tape and is presented, for the first time, at the correct speed. This action
not only ensures higher audio fidelity, but presents the songs as the artist
orignally intended. Consequently, 3 songs -'Teenage Werewolf, Sunglasses
After Dark and I'm Cramped ' are missing from this release due to the time
constraints of a vinvyl record |

worldwide concert tour launched in support of his album Never Let Me Down and
named for that album's track 'Glass Spider'. It began in May 1987 and was
preceded by a two-week press tour that saw Bowie visit nine countries
throughout Europe and North America to drum up public interest in the tour.
The Glass Spider Tour was the first Bowie tour to visit Austria, Italy,
Spain, Ireland and Wales. The tour was, at that point, the longest and most
expensive tour Bowie had embarked upon in his career |

Kicks celebrates its 20th Anniversary with a limited edition "Rare Box
Set" consisting of ten 45 vinyl with the very best of the label's
catalogue. 2023 is a special year for Record Kicks: the Milan-based
independent label turns 20 years old. In order to celebrate this great
achievement, Record Kicks is proud to announce the release of a limited
edition "Rare Box Set", coming out on March 3rd and containing 20
tracks on 10 "rare" 45 vinyl that retrace the story of these past
20 years of Record Kicks. The boxset is limited to 500 copies worldwide and
it will also be released on digital format on that same day, March 3rd. The
artwork by Japanese artist Ruminz is an homage to Afro-American culture. Of
the 20 tracks on the "Rare Boxset", 11 tracks are previously
unreleased on 45 vinyl, while 9 are reissues of mega in-demand gems. Among
the tracks released for the first time on 45, you'll find label's Funk &
Soul heavyweights such as "Easy To Come Home" by Sydney funk
maestros Dojo Cuts, "Your Love is Mine" by British funk band The
New Mastersounds feat Corinne Bailey Rae and remixed by Nostalgia 77,
"50 Foot Woman" by Hannah Williams & The Affirmations,

When
people think of Tough Gong they usually think of Bob Marley and rightly so,
as he was nicknamed and often called Tough Gong and from this his early
releases which came out on the Tough Gong label. But Tough Gong was also the
name of a recording complex named after Bob Marley hat included a top level
recording studio, pressing plant and distribution centre that would allow
reggae music to carry on many years after his sad and too early demise. Bob
Marley had take over the former residence of Island Records boss Chris
Blackwell the Island House, 56 Hope Road around 1974. Just before the “Smile
Jamaica” concert on 03rd December the same year the house was ambushed by
gunmen. Bob’s manager Don Taylor was hit 5 times AND Bob was shot in the arm
and his wife Rita Marley was hit in the head by a stray bullet. How no one
was fatally injured is staggering. Immediately after the concert Bob Marley
started his self imposed exile from Jamaica, settling in London, England.
This would lead to the aptly named exodus album being recorded there in the
summer of 1977. It would not be until the “One Love” peace concert in
Kingston’s national arena on the 22nd April 1978 that would see Bob’s return
to the island. Marley felt is was important to show his commitment to the
people of Jamaica and on his return to 56 Hope Road he began construction of
his own recording studio with the help of music mogul Tommy Cowen.
Unfortunately Bob Marley’s short life would end on the 11th May 1981 from
cancer which originated form a football injury. His passing would lead to 56
Hope Road being turned into a museum to the legend of reggae music. A new
location would have to be found to carry on Bob’s work which was 220 Marcus
Garvey Drive, Kingston 11. The buyer would be Rita Marley and the Tough Gong
International Organisation. Engineers working at the new facility included
Errol Browne who had worked at Treasure Isle studios and Hopeton Overton
Browne known as “Scientist”, named by the great producer Bunny “Striker” Lee
who worked with him previously at King Tubbie’s and Channel One’s studios
described his ground breaking style as being like that of a scientist. We
focus for this release on the work carried out by the great Scientist on the
songs of the Black Solidarity Label run by Ossie Thomas (aka Joe The Boss)
recorded at Tough Gong studios. One of the foremost recording, pressing and
distribution facilities on the Jamaican island set up from the work of Bob
Marley to carry forward reggae music. Hope you enjoy this set |

Hawk
started dropping Global Goon records on the legendary Rephlex Records back in
the 1990s. The project's subsequent releases have taken in imprints as
esteemed as WéMè and Balkan. Factor in a whole host of other aliases which
have delivered missives via the likes of Planet Mu, and you know even before
you press play on this witty, wily record that you're dealing with a master
at work here. The confidence with which Global Goon approaches Nanoclusters
shines through in Hawk taking much of the mini-album at midtempo. Cuts like
'Khroxic Mould', 'Metallik' and 'Syntheseers' sound like Bochum Welt heading
down a dark alleyway. The former in particular is a seasick lope, the tuned
synths lurching around like sailors on deck in a storm as bass ebbs and flows
underneath the mix. The influence of Kraftwerk comes through prominently at
times here, particularly in the way 'Calcula' and 'Digit Six' play pensive,
slightly sombre synth chords off some simple but effective forward motion in
the drum programming. That is not to say that Nanoclusters is not full of
invention, though. None of the productions are overly flash, but this
approach allows the little details to shine through more clearly, from
cleverly panned hi-hats to hissing synth counter-melodies which flit in and
out of the mix. Enthralling and packed full of ear candy, they're further
evidence that Nanoclusters is the work of an expert craftsman. While the
pulse of Nanoclusters remains relatively steady throughout, it's still a
rather lively record. Plenty of these tracks will get the dancefloor moving
if deployed correctly - though whether they're heard at home or in the dance,
it's the attention to detail which makes them stand out. 'Snapterisk' is as
perfect an example of machine-funk as you're likely to find - the drum
programming is razor-sharp but rubbery with bongos, the bass a lithe burble,
and those wobbly stabs of keys that put a bit of wiggle in the beat?
Delightful stuff. Elsewhere the ever-looping arpeggio of 'Metro Esc' has
hints of Frankie Knuckles' house classic 'Your Love', though an array of
interesting sonic nuggets - snippets of vocal, radar-like bloops, a gently
insistent low-end pulse - soften the track's clubbier elements with a pillowy
sheen. And Hawk throws us a curveball right at the end of Nanoclusters,
tapping back into that old Rephlex sound for the fizzy, braindancing 'Metal
Glass'. Global Goon doesn't need to show off on Nanoclusters - from
brilliantly slick machine-funk to Kraftwerkian reveries, the CPU debutant
lets the music do the talking here. It makes for a confident and vivacious

Beyond
The Midnight Sun' expands upon ground first explored on Don Leisure's track
'All Praises Due', which also featured Amanda (with Angel Bat Dawid), and
featured on his previous album 'Shaboo Strikes Back'. This is a full-length
project that these two formidable Welsh artists have collaborated on
together. To bring you up to speed, Cardiff DJ and beat-maker Don Leisure has
been twice nominated for the Welsh Music Prize, with the afore-mentioned
album 'Shaboo Strikes Back', and a previous project, 'Steel Zakusi'. As well
as being 50% of Darkhouse Family with Earl Jeffers, he's released music under
various monikers on labels such as Metalheadz, International Anthem, Fat
City, Earnest Endeavours, Group BraCil and on Rough Trade with another
regular collaborator, Gruff Rhys. Other collabs have included Charlotte
Church, Om'Mas Keith, DJ Spinna and First Word label-mate Tyler Daley
(Children of Zeus). His DJ portfolio includes sets for BBC 6 Music, NTS,
Rinse FM, Solid Steel, Boxout FM (India), The Jazz Cafe, Fabric and Boiler
Room, while previous support has come from Lauren Laverne, Tom Ravenscroft,
Huw Stephens, Lefto, Rob Da Bank, Huey Morgan, Jon1st, Om Unit, Kid Fonque,
Mr Thing and many more. His album 'Shaboo' was named "the best album of
its kind since J Dilla's 'Donuts'" by Piccadilly Records. Joining him
throughout this project, we have the pleasure of welcoming the phenomenal
talents of highly-acclaimed harpist Amanda Whiting to the First Word label. A
virtuoso in her field, this classically trained musician quickly established
herself as an essential player in the UK jazz scene, carving her unique sound
following the paths forged by Ashby and Coltrane. She's toured extensively
with her own band, as well as with Matthew Halsall, Chip Wickham, DJ Yoda and
Rebecca Vasmant, whilst previously releasing three solo albums on Jazzman
Records, and a remix project for Scrimshire's Albert's Favourites imprint.
Along the way, there's been a nomination for 'Instrumentalist of the Year' from
Jazz FM and she's garnered the support of DJs such as Radio 2's Jamie Cullum
("highly recommended") and 6 Music's Cerys Matthews ("my
highlight of the Cheltenham Jazz festival 2023"). Don explains more…
"The project is a journey down the road that was revealed to me on 'All
Praises Due' on 'Shaboo Strikes Back'. Amanda's willingness and eagerness to
continue collaborating was a dream come true. Being able to get harp parts
from someone who is so open minded is such a rare treat that a deeper project
was inevitable. I wanted to move in a different direction from the beat tape
format on my previous releases while still maintaining the core Don Leisure
sound, fused with live instrumentation and vocals etc". The talents of Deborah
Jordan are also featured on a couple of the album's tracks. Deborah is a
stalwart in the UK soul and jazz scene in her own right, working over the
years with artists like 4Hero, Bugz In The Attic, Ty, Jneiro Jarel, K15,
Robert Mitchell and Kaidi Tatham (someone who's collaborated with all the
players on this release at some point). 'Beyond The Midnight Sun' is a
7-track affair comprised of delectable spiritual jazz fused with hip hop
beats, psychedelic electronics and a touch of soul |

One
of the very first compositions by Bruno Sanchioni (Age of Love, BBE),
released in 88 just at the beginning of the New Beat phenomenon that marked
the history of Belgian music. Along with Confetti's and Amnesia, it was one
of the most popular tracks of its time and marked the start of a long and
promising career for Bruno Sanchioni. Just 2 years later, he composed the
original bassline for the legendary track "Age of Love", which,
thanks to Jam & Spoon's remix, was to stamp the electronic music scene
for several generations. Based on video clash created by the visionary
Lil'Louis, the original slow tempo was enhanced by the highly recognisable
vocal "The Story" and a simple but highly effective melody. It was
already remixed 10 years later by Viper, with a rhythmic pattern once again
inspired by the Chicago pioneers. 25 years on, this track still evokes
emotion and still inspires a good number of artists to want to touch it up,
and for the track's 35th anniversary it seemed appropriate to pay it a
vibrant tribute by offering several remixes split into two different vinyl
projects. In a faster, more acid-influenced style, the first project features
a remix by DJHS, Manu Kenton and Furax, emblematic artists from the north of France,
and is completed by Viper's excellent 98 remix for those who haven't heard it
yet. DJHS is behind the legendary acid track 'Spokesman', Manu Kenton is one
of the flagship artists of the 'Ghoststyle' label and Furax is behind 'Big

Rhythm Buro, the Kyiv-based lablel, collective and party initiative, has
prepared a rather special compilation entitled 'There Will Be Light'. The
compilation focuses on deep listening, chill-out and ambient music, which encompasses
the team's diverse approach to music, which can be experienced at their
events and on their label. The idea behind 'There Will Be Light' was born
several years ago as a concept for providing relaxing sounds, to invoke a
sense of peace and calm, in headphones on the street, in the subway, at home
or in the car. This notion is all the more pressing as Ukraine is being
ravaged by war; the objective of this release feels all the more relevant and

releasing tracks and EPs on several respected big room labels such as
Drumcode, Kraftek and Noir, Dutch DJ/producer SAMA announces the arrival of
his new darker, grittier label Maximalist_Minimalist. Showcasing his new
sound, the Utrecht- based DJ/producer delivers four hard-hitting, groove-led
techno tracks built with intricate sound design and a perfectionist mindset.
Leading the release is 'Onyankopon', a dark and dubby number with a chunky
groove and gritty percussion. 'I Reject What I Just Said' enters harder and
more driving territories, with textured sound design meeting polyrhythmic
synth stabs and eerie atmospheres. The B-side starts with the trippy leads
and atonal pads of 'One Small Mistake', before 'And All Of A Sudden, I Was
Free' closes out the release with a driving roller. "I've felt the need
to reinvent myself, to really create my own identity, and not attach myself

Zero
Years Kid is the alter ego of Joachim Badenhorst, one of the most fascinating
and adventurous Belgian jazz musicians from the last 2 decades. He plays with
the international band Carate Urio Orchestra but also as musician with Naima
Joris or Chantal Acda. Zero Years Kid started off as a solo project, but has
grown into a full and organic live band. Badenhorst sees Zero Years Kid as a
kindergarten to explore other ideas and interests besides of jazz. Together
with Jan de Vroede, Lennart Heyndels and Erik Heestermans he brings a
colorful amalgam of hip-hop, pop, dance and r&b with playful and poetic
lyrics in his native language: Dutch. Next to his clarinet and sax he adds
samples and electronica which results in a surprising fantasy world where it
is wonderful to wander. In 2019 debut album Ongerijmde Rijmen was released.
Successor Geen Grenzen is ready and will be released on November 10th of this
year on Klein. Geen Grenzen is an ode to breaking boundaries, to color
outside the lines and to don’t get hung up on expectations. The title track
is a rework of No Limits by 2Unlimited. The song got translated, slowed-down
and distorted to the universe of Zero Years Kid. The album is a poetic and
humorous trip with a melancholic twist, and themes like the covid pandemic,
intense arguments that are forgiven, writers-block, desire and love |
