EP compilation with Terada's work for the Ape Escape games, tip! Outside of
the international house underground, where his early ‘90s works for the Far
East Recording label he co-founded with Shinichiro Yokota are rightly
celebrated as bona-fide classics, Soichi Terada is best-known for his work
composing music for video games. Yet until now, few of his productions for
video games have been released outside of Japan, especially on vinyl. Apes In
The Net, a six-track EP featuring music composed for the popular PlayStation
1 series Ape Escape, sets the record straight. It not only showcases Terada’s
quality as a composer and producer, but also his versatility. Like much of
Terada’s work on the Ape Escape series, the tracks featured don’t explore deep,
New York and New Jersey influenced house sounds, but rather his
lesser-celebrated love of jungle and drum & bass – a sound he fully
explored on 1996 album Sumo Jungle. “The producer of the Ape Escape games
heard that and got in touch,” Soichi remembers. “They asked me to make the
soundtrack, and then work on the music for the sequels after that. I used to
love making music with AKAI hardware samplers, synthesisers, and computers,
so I played and recorded the tracks using almost the same methods as I did
when I made house music. Using breakbeats and audio samples with a sampler
was the most useful way to make the soundtracks.” The six tracks on show,
which were originally recorded in the ‘90s but reconstructed and remastered
for Japan-only CD and digital releases over a decade ago, mix elements of
Terada’s familiar deep house style – think warming chords and pads, memorable
melodies, and emotive musical motifs – with blistering D&B breakbeats,
16-bit synth sounds, electronic bleeps and undeniably weighty basslines.
They’ve stood the test of time and arguably sound just as fresh now as they
did at the turn of the millennium. For proof, check the soaring, spellbinding
‘Spectors Castle’, where uplifting lead lines and sumptuous chords dance atop
punchy beats and growling bass, the jazzy and saucer-eyed rush of ‘Mount
Amazing’ (all twinkling piano motifs, alien synth sounds, squelchy bass and
skittish drums) and the intergalactic, liquid D&B excellence of ‘Time
Station’, whose whistling melodies and stargazing chords are undeniably
alluring. There are plenty of other delights to be found across the EP, too,
from the bustling, race-to-the-finish breathlessness of D&B/bleep techno
fusion workout ‘Spectors Factory In’, and the rumbling sub-bass, creepy pads
and suspenseful melodies of ‘Haunted House’, to the bombastic,
all-out-assault on the senses that is ‘Coaster’, the set’s most “purist”
jungle workout – albeit one that also doffs a cap to the pulsating world of
big room techno. Apes In The Net, then, celebrates Soichi Terada’s mastery as
a video games composer and early Japanese junglist. Props are well and truly
overdue |

Jacob
Stoy's OVERLOAD is here. It is a long-running and crucial project in the
Berlin musician and graphic designer's artistic output. What began as a
multi-dimensional art project about the over-presence of stimuli hammering
our consciousness in the days of late capitalism evolved into a fascinating
musical field study into the deep canyons of future IDM, lo-fi wave,
freakfolk and everything in between. The album is a piece of conceptual art
that uses sound and music to reflect on the modern information society and
our relationship to digital content. Lost in the endless stream of
sensations, we are not only plagued by fears of missing out on relevant
information, but also increasingly by addictive behavior in the form of a
permanent longing for content. Despite the constant oversupply, these
relationships lead to loneliness, social isolation and the inability to make
decisions. Almost inevitably, the musical spectrum on OVERLOAD is
extraordinarily broad, ranging from state-of-the-art IDM to lo-fi wave
sketches, hip-hop stumblings and freakfolk miniatures through to twisted
ambient. Nevertheless, it is surprisingly cohesive and works well as a cure
for digital overload in a kind of conceptual irony. It is an album that will
inevitably cast a spell over listeners. A very limited physical edition of
the album has been designed and manufactured with love and care by Jacob
Stoy. It comes in the form of a handmade twelve-sided booklet that consists
of eleven printed transparent foils and the CD in a protective sleeve. But
Jacob Stoy's album is by no means the end of the OVERLOAD concept. The ideas
are being continued on the project's website and in various artistic
contributions. Jacob Stoy has asked many friends how they would translate
their thoughts on the subject into individual works of art. Many exhibits
have already been submitted, with many more to come. The project will
ultimately culminate in a concept exhibition that brings together all the
contributions and creates a dialog between them |

Danish
imprint Inherent Futurism returns with its second release in 2024, entitled
'Merger' and made up of a selection of cuts from the Copenhagen Electro
Alliance. Inherent Futurism is the new label launched by Morten Kamper, an
intrinsic member of the Copenhagen electronic music scene and the man behind
the city's 313vinyl_collective record store. He launched the label with a
reissue of the Autobot-1000 '3 Dimensions Of Space', a hidden gem from 2001
and the golden era of Electro. Here though, he brings things closer to home
and revisits an array of select compositions from the Copenhagen Electro
Alliance, compiled together to make up the aptly titled 'Merger'. The package
is made up of twelve tracks across two twelve-inch vinyl from artists in the
alliance, Nixxon, Brain Enterprise, Deimos Defender and Kruzh'em. As the name
of the Copenhagen Electro Alliance collective would suggest, the aesthetic
leans heavily towards experimental sounds and draws influence from the soul
of Detroit electro, which paved the way for the future of the genre. The
twelve-track collection explores all of the classic Electro tropes from
punchy and crunch 808s, intricately intertwined synthesizer melodies, murky
bass lines and dynamically unfolding, heavily modulated constructions, some
leaning towards dance floor friendly while others lay more in the realm of
sonic exploration of futuristic music |

The album "Right Now!"
was published on October 12, 1999. The band had broken up in 1981, but
returned in the 90s, and although they did not have a large 'cache' in the
United States, they were and continue to be very popular in Europe and Australia.
The label 'the Mexican Ramones' did not take into account their other
revealing influences: pre-Punk and Garage-Rock bands. THE ZEROS make it
evident on this album, releasing covers of New York Dolls among others. But
the originals, the examples 'They Say (That Everything's Alright)' and
'Handgrenade Heart', also exploit the spirit of loud, strident rock. There
are also slow and melodic, sloppy and dirty Pop songs to satisfy all tastes |

Jorge Ben in 1963, after the
large impact of his first album Samba Esquema Novo, goes back into the studio
to realize his very cool early album Sacundin Ben Samba. Here Ben's work took
a jazzy turn, with a crossover into Brazil's cabaretstyle pop. Some of these
tracks have a straight jazz character, particularly with the piano and horn
combos (and assist by Meirelles and Luiz Carlos Vinhas...) Interestingly
enough, although he didn't stick with style long, his version of jazzy
presentation swung heavier than most of the proper "jazz" records
of the time, by folks such as the Tambo Trio, etc |

Following
a first iteration which set the tone for our newly-minted Heimat series in
explosive fashion, here comes the much anticipated second batch of our
zeitgeistian take on today's scene's, its current potential and destination.
Showcasing productions from artists keen to roll up their sleeves and sail
into the impassible status quo, this new number packs the kind of red-hot
hammering and cutting-edge punch we've been so adamant to push and defend
over the past decade. Berlin-based French producer Arkan steps in first with
a proper magnetic depth charge. Dwelling the darker layers of our ocean floor
as its name suggests, 'Submarine' is pure hypnotic material geared up for
heavy-duty boogie in the warehouse. Filling its ballast tanks with a hefty deluge
of muscular bass onslaughts, sonar-like bleeps and untamed cascades of loopy
arps, this one rolls and pitches like a haunted ship on predator mode. Adding
his dynamic pulse and mind-bending spin to the A-side, Frameworks &
Untertwegs bossman Decka cuts a path of straight mental obliteration as he
smashes the doors of the club wide open and parades all guns blazing with the
unapologetic crusher that is 'Circumvent'. A no-holds-barred workout for the
strong stomachs, churning out fiery bars of kick-drum/squelchy bass contrast
with in-your-face swagger. Switching on to the flip side, there's
Manchester's Yant cruising with the ebulliently dynamic (no shit, Sherlock)
tune, 'Moving'. A multidirectional concerto of pong-like modularity and
racing synth arpeggios flying off like coloured bricks in a Tetris game gone
absolute batshit. The kind of hi-intensity burner that'll awaken any lukewarm
mid-set flow with its bouncy unpredictability and ruthless forward-pushing
thrust. Rounding it off on a further minimal note, Amsterdam up-and-comer
Hitam treats us to an inch-perfectly engineered finale with a stripped-back -
yet, absolutely not hollow - bomb, 'Venusian Winds'. Gutsy that one sure is,
with its metronomic step ticking at near-cyclonic speed and cleverly
arranged, subtly FX-coated funk keeping things both suspenseful and focussed
thru and thru. A sleek combo of pared-down brutalism and masterly executed
analogue tailoring altogether. All dressed in clear purple marbled wax for
the occasion, "Heimat II" shall please both the techno purist and
visual aesthete in you with its velvet touch and effortless chic |

For
release number four Soul Intent comes up with something truly special... The
Fruit Club is a big nod back to the famous 'Fruit Club' event that was held
at The Brunel Rooms in Swindon throughout the 90s. This is where Soul Intent
first heard dnb as it should be via underground hero's like Doc Scott,
Kemistry & Storm, and DJ Lee. Infact even the label artwork has been
designed around their old flyers (big up to DJ Faydz & Stephen Reid for
permission to use the Fruit Club logo). The track itself features all the
elements of those classic mid 90s tracks along with production and
arrangement straight out of 2015. On hearing Soul Intent drop it as his first
tune Dillinja hunted Alex down and asked for the tune, which he smashed in
every set through out his busy 2014 festival season. Dropping the track at
Outlook both Doc Scott and Xtra ran up to the DJ booth asking Dillinja what
the track was. They both have since championed the track and helped it become
one of the hottest dubplates of 2014. Would Have Loved You has been getting a
lot of interest from DJ's and clubbers alike. Janette Thompson's beautiful
vocals (written herself) ride over a tough break and sinister distorted
bassline. A fine example of Soul Intents love of combining rough with smooth
fused with that classic 90s headz vibe. Rude Raver is a out and out
dancefloor roller. Packed with samples from the early hardcore era where
labels like Reinforced owed the UK underground rave scene. A distinctive
synth riff, ragga vocals and a fast paced break make this a sure fire killer
in the club. A Straight up club track, and we're not ashamed to say so |

with some obscure and analog live jams for club use only. Rigid grooves that
transform subtly by the use of frequency cuts and vocal chops make Bodytalk
an interesting Lo-Fi sounding yet energetic Jam for peak hours and after. The

Our
label's 28th release comes courtesy of Warm Up's new addition to the family:
the Argentinian Luis Ruiz is a young producer with strong roots on hardware
synths and drum machines. In 2008 he created his own label, called Analogate
Rec., which is focused on the classic sounds of old school techno and acid
techno. From the outset, with Analogate Rec. Luis Ruiz sought to revitalise
old school techno, whose roots had got lost in time. In 2010 he set up his
second label: Subsequent Rec., where techno was, once more, the centrepiece.
For his first release on Warm Up, he brings us two original tracks plus a
remix by Oscar Mulero. The EP opens with Oscar Mulero's rework of 'Anunnaki
Invasion': Oscar uses a stronger drum workout with a live feel and a more European
techno flavour, dark and funky at once, perfect for rocking the walls at any
club worth its salt. 'Artefakts' is a raw track; dark drum programming,
sub-bass galore and the added drama of the hi-pitched strings make this an
hypnotic and powerful techno tool for the clubs. 'Anunnaki Invasion' is
closer to the flavour of Detroit, with floating synths and drones over a
shuffled techno beat, very much in the style of Jeff Mills. A release that is
complete, full of force and soul, coming from a fresh new talent. Keep an eye
on this guy: he's going to rock the place |

was released in June 2018. The album
chronicles events that occured in her formative years and the
catharsis that occurred through her songwriting, the 12 tracks described as

“weightless, otherworldly qualities” (Uncut), “richly textured sonic
grandeur” (Bristol Live Magazine) and “channeling the hymnal qualities of
Cat’s Eyes, with the dense vocals of Medúlla-era Björk” (The Line Of Best
Fit). The live band, completed by Greg Stoddard, Benjamin Johnson and Hugo
Bishop, has been playing this summer at festivals including Larmer Tree,
Bluedot and Green Man as well as supporting Rae Morris, Loney Dear and
Carmody. They will support Solomon Grey at London’s Union Chapel in October
and Sofar Sounds will host the band for a two-nighter in Bristol this
November. |

Pop 1964-2019) comes new compilation ‘Music for the Stars (Celestial Music
1960-1979)’, a collection of laid back, late night songs perfect for lying
back, losing yourself in the moment. Includes tracks from legends such as

heeft geleefd, en daar deelt zij met haar debuutalbum het eerste echte deel
van. Na het uitbrengen van haar EP 'Een' werd het soloproject van Aysha de
Groot omschreven als 'betoverend, met kleine liedjes over grote onderwerpen.'
In het nieuwe hyper-persoonlijke 'Zwart/Wit' zoekt ze daarin nog verde r de
grenzen op. 'Hoe oncomfortabel en toch troostend kan ik deze plaat maken?'
aldus de Groot. Het kenmerkende, warme, intieme, maar toch schurende geluid
waar Meis zichzelf mee op de kaart heeft gezet, is nu nóg directer komt nóg
dichterbij en klinkt nóg rauwer. In 'Zwart/Wit', doet de Groot een boekje ope
n over een periode van ziekte, trauma, herstel, kracht en de zoektocht naar
zelf liefde. Het conceptuele album vertelt één verhaal. Geopereerd worden,
een totale maagresectie, uit voorzorg. Niet jong ziek willen worden zoals
haar moeder en o ma voor haar, maar wel moeten leren leven zonder maag. De
twee weken die Meis in het ziekenhuis heeft moeten doorbrengen waren zwaar en
traumatisch. Om de tijd door te komen, heeft zij een dagboek aan teksten
geschreven, die later uitgewerkt zijn tot dit album. Ze pakt 3 periodes: Het
toeleven naar de operatie, de periode in het ziekenhuis zelf en het herstel
daarna. 'Zwart/Wit' bestaat uit 11 tracks, deels licht, positief en hoopvol,
deels donker, zwaar en een stuk harder. Zowel tekstueel als productioneel
speelt Meis met het zwart en het wit. Samen met producer en muzikant Nicky
Hustinx dook zij in het afgelegen Den Dolder de studio in, om de songs uit te
bouwen. Geïnspireerd door de directheid van Phoebe Bridgers, de intieme
vocalen van Dodie, het rauwe geluid van Big Thief en de donker e en
minimalistische producties van James Blake, heeft Meis de ideale manier
gevonden om haar verhaal te vertellen, volledig in haar eigen stijl. Het is
geen popmuziek, maar toch is haar muziek herkenbaar, maar weet je niet
precies met wie ze te vergelijken valt |

Formed
in Tokyo in 2017, Ronin Arkestra brings together some of the finest and most
creative players in Japan™s Jazz and and electronic scene. The collective
includes members of Kyoto Jazz Sextet, WONK, Cro-Magnon, Root Soul,
Sleepwalker, Sauce81, Kyoto Jazz Massive and, of course, band leader Mark de
Clive Lowe. Kicking it all off is ˜Stranger Searching™, where lush
electronics meet beautifully executed Jazz in full story mode. A constantly
driving beat push this track along through its various chapters, with each
member of the band given time tell their tale. Horns from Shinpei Ruike,
Kohei Ando and Wataru Hamasaki tie everything together in beautiful harmony.
˜Redeye Reprisal™ hits hard right from the top. With soaring horn lines and
beautifully soulful keys from Mark de Clive Lowe, it is drummer Hikaru Arata
who is given time to shine in this piece. Wild patterns add to the frenetic
nature of the piece, creating drama and mystery before it safely delivers you
home. Flip the record and we are back in story mode again. ˜The Silk Road
Prelude™ is Japanese Jazz at its finest. A solid theme gives definition to
this piece, with the horns once again providing all the drama you need.
Carefully interspersed with beautiful guitar playing from Tsuyoshi Kosuga,
and interwoven electronics from Sauce81, drummer Nobuaki Fuji and bassist
Shinju Kobayashi control the groove with exquisite detail. The final track
needs no introduction. ˜A Love Supreme™ is what legends are made of.
Beautifully reimagined by this fine group of musicians, this is the Sunflower
moment, a group showing its full dedication and respect for the Jazz masters.

techno from a timeless artist. Italian veteran Antonio De Angelis steps up on
KEY Vinyl serving quality material through an EP built out of classic cuts -
never disappointing our thirst for excellence. De Angelis opens the records
with a full burst of energy. A1 is proper loopy peak time material,
constituted by a rhythmic crescendo of elements and a blend of trimmed funky
vocals. This one will make you smile. With 'Black Lights' the energy shifts
to a more eccentric, dark place. A2 focuses all around on the creation of an
atmosphere- a moment charged with intensity and hypnotism. The chubby lows
and the absence of bold high sleave plenty of space for incredibly overlapped
bleepy layers and textures. For the flip side, 'Delta 1' proposes a continuation
of the bleepy direction of its former. A sinister, aggressive temper but with
a softened, almost melancholic essence. Its pulsating kick drumsare tempting,
paired with more dramatic analogue synth effectsand old-school aura- let's
call it modern space-age drama. B2 then concludes the sonic journey with a
positive charm, almost acting as the light at the end of the tunnel. Funky
arps allow space for a slow build up and a more loose energy, giving a
well-deserved breather from previous intensity. Indeed, 'Halob' closes the
driving, intense EP with a bit of sunny sunshine which in the midst of
darkness, we all crave |

A
kaleidoscopic sonic riot, Nandakke? is the hotly anticipated debut album from
Japanese-Belgian duo Aili. Featuring 10 tracks of surreal electro-pop, joyful
electronica, house music and more, Nandakke? is a euphoric album that sees
Aili Maruyama and Orson Wouters more than fulfil the promise of their
acclaimed debut EP. Recorded over the course of six months in Orson's studio,
packed full of vintage synths, Nandakke? captures the spontaneous spirit and
creativity of those sessions. Exchanging riffs and rhythms, bouncing sounds
and samples off each other, Aili and Orson would let the music take them
where it wanted. The result,an album full of wild ideas and bold, playful
experimentation. More than anything an exhilarating feeling of discovery
courses through Nandakke?, leaving you never sure where it will go next. One
minute a pulsing electro-pop number featuring Aili's dad discussing his
takoyaki (battered octopus) recipe, the next an explosive high energy workout
song like Up & Down. Certainly Aili was surprised to find herself singing
in her own unique version of Japanese again. "I thought that I was done
with that after our debut EP, but apparently not as I speak even more
Japanese on the album!" said Maruyama. "Every time we were in the
studio these words would just tumble out. It's a complicated language but I
just love to play with it. "In many ways I'm an outsider, I left Tokyo
aged 7, so there's a lot I notice as someone who is not a native speaker and
it doesn't always make sense, there's a lot of mistakes in it.But in a way
that sums up the whole philosophy of the album and how Orson and I work
together." That notion of duality, a sense of belonging but feeling
apart, of being between two worlds and inventing your own captures the spirit
of Nandakke?, itself a Japanese word that roughly translates to "Well,
what was it?". "It's something you say when you're looking for a
word, like you know it but have forgotten how to say it. That's literally how
I communicate with my dad the whole time," Maruyama explains. "The
main feeling I have when I go to Japan is that I know the language, I can
speak it, but part of me still feels like it doesn't have all the vocabulary.
There's a gap there that nandakke has always filled for me. All the lyrics
come from that place, that seven-year old trying to speak Japanese."
Whether Aili's singing about the language she invented with her father over
the years to bridge the gap between them (Nandakke?), the idiosyncratic
Japanese relationship to fashion (Fashion) or riffing on children's
playground songs (Yubikiri) the result is a remarkable album that defies easy
categorisation. Bursting onto the Belgian scene in 2021 with their acclaimed
debut EP, Dansu, its lead track spent 8 consecutive weeks at the #1 spot of
Radio 1's VOX list and saw the band nominated for Studio Brussel's De Nieuwe
Lichting ('New Generation') award. Since then Aili have appeared playing live
on the Belgian TV show Roomies, been tipped by the likes of Rolling Stone,
become regulars on tastemaker stations like KEXP and KCRW in the US and Nova
in France, toured across Europe and, just recently, played their first sell
out shows in Japan |

de Witte Kicks Off 2024 With a New Label and Rework of One Of Techno’s Most
Iconic Tracks. Today, techno force of nature Charlotte de Witte unveils a
two-part homage to an iconic era of Belgium’s underground club scene with the
debut of an archival label within her KNTXT imprint and a rework of one of
the most anthemic techno tracks of all time. Appropriately titled Époque,
this sonic time capsule aims to simultaneously preserve and reimagine the
spirit, sounds and discotheque culture of the late 90’s and early 2000’s for
a new generation. As head of the label, de Witte will kick off its release on
February 9 with her own spin on the Belgian techno classic, “Universal
Nation” by M.I.K.E Push. Released in 1998 and originally written by M.I.K.E.

Larionov's
previous releases have shown off a musical sensibility which is both schooled
in classic electro stylings and also able to reach for leftfield sonics in a
way which sets the producer apart from the pack. It's a vibe that continues
into this record, a quartet of busy electro joints which are characterised by
a brooding, neurotic energy. The opening title-track is precisely the sort of
thing which would soundtrack a voyage to the outer-edges of the solar system.
'Space Threat' is a nervy, restless bit of machine-funk, the track moving
forward at a midtempo which manages to be at once steady and slightly
fidgety. The beat skitters and swerves, a perpetual-motion machine of
minor-key bass, strange modular flutters and thwacking snares. All of this is
draped in icy washes of keyboard - think Drexciya if they blasted into outer
space rather than delving deep down in the ocean. 'Asteroid Attack' works
from the same blueprint for 'Space Threat' but ratchets up the intensity a
little to take the track to another galaxy. It's still powered by a livewire
neurosis, all piston-sharp drums and whirligig synth percussion. However, an
increased tempo, strangely poignant keyboard lines and little snatches of
vocoder-drenched vocals turn 'Asteroid Attack' in the direction of modern
practitioners like Cardopusher and CPU homie Silicon Scally. Opening up the
EP's B-side, 'Flying High' finds a midpoint between its predecessors,
returning to the steadier pace and twitchy vibe of 'Space Threat' but
maintaining 'Asteroid Attack's single-note counter-melodies and digified
vocals - although here the ghostly treatment on the voice makes for a hugely
eerie atmosphere. Around the four-minute mark, the track peels back the veil
of synth pads and wobbling keys stabs to turn the attention wholly to the
rhythm section, a choice which feels like taking a stiff drink in order to
redouble your energy for the next part of the night. 'Vimana Ride' runs with
'Flying High's approach to see Space Threat out in style. There's something
to the digital vocal sighs that make up the melody of this cut which gives
things a really uncanny quality - it's the kind of sonic choice that Sadboys
producers like Yung Gud and Yung Sherman would make, but applied wholly to
the service of crafting body-popping, acid-tinged electro. Larionov arrives
on Central Processing Unit with an EP of anxiously excellent electro

Label
head Blue Hour steps up for the next release with an impressive two tracker,
offering a new exploration of sound from the Berlin based producer. First up
on the A side ‘Dimensions’ reveals a dramatic and eery driving Techno track
with an atmosphere akin to early British IDM releases but with a more
dancefloor-focused approach. ‘Dimensions’ is punctuated by warped mechanical
percussive fx, pummeling drums and relentless groove highlighted by a simple
yet effective melodic line which boldly opens things up and cuts through the
complex layering of sound as the track evolves. On the B side ‘Sun Dogz’
adopts a similar soundscape, however picks up the tempo with a more Trance
orientated production inspired by darker Goa/Psy styles and modern Fast-Trance
productions. Hypnotic acidic lines, spatial fx and tribal percussion guide
the listener to the main event. A heavily reverbed metallic hook and unique
piece of sound design which takes multiple twists and turns along the course
of the track. The EP wraps up a year of multiple successful releases from the
label, with next year marking 10 years since the labels inception - keep an
