This is the 3rd appearance of
Odesa-based Hennadii Boichenko (ex-Indirect) on Muscut, after his
contribution as a part of the Indirect band (Ab Pharmacy / Waltz - 2014, Ode
To The Sea 7” single, “Sea Songs,” - is a record mixed and tape mastered by
Dmytro Nikolaienko. This is also the first episode of a newly started series
of analog production chain releases with master reel tape transfer to lathe
cut (the label has only been sending digital master files to the record plant
before that). This year, Muscut twists from electronic music to instrumental
and eclectic ones with more similar releases in the queue - Cukor Bila
Smert's recordings from 1990-1993, Nikolaienko's "Meta"
(exploration of metallophone on tape loopings), Fleischesmarkt's - disbanded

major debut on A&M and their solemn masterpiece Badmotorfinger,
Soundgarden have risen to pure celebrity. Just a couple days before their
first Top Forty album was released, Soundgarden played the Hollywood
Palladium with Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Spinal Tap as part of heavy
metal magazine RIP's fifth anniversary celebration. This broadcast collects
seven songs performed at that October 6, 1991 show, as well as two from a
concert at the same venue on April 25, 1992. Many of the tracks from
Badmotorfinger are spotlighted, along with a sensational cover of Black
Sabbath's Into the Void,- with different lyrics taken from the words of Chief

original bassist Sean McCarthy's trial for grievous bodily harm. The
in-your-face hardcore of EP "Leather, Bristles, Studs And Acne,"
paved the way for super-charged debut LP, City Baby Attacked By Rats, which
hit the number two position on the British indie charts on release in l982,
as well as the mainstream top 2O, despite being released by tiny independent,
Clay Records. With a touch of Motorhead and Sabbath beneath their straight-up
hardcore, City Baby is where the legend begins, capturing G.B.H. at their

The
second part of ARTREFORM's latest double vinyl release captures a new
Romanian electronic scene star, Funky Trip, presenting a track called
"Magic Woman." Just like femme fatale encounters often tend to,
this occasion leaves one too many questions unanswered. Funky Trip's
signature minimal house maintains tension through a looped leitmotif while
the rhythm section and spacious ambient pads gradually trick the listener in.
"Magic Woman" has the appeal of an ideal "second track"
in the mix, the one intriguing enough yet leaving space for further narrative
development. Funky Trip's delivery is delightfully contrasted by a beautiful
remix by Lorgu that brings to the table an atmospheric, groovy house with
many small nuances. The next track, "Les Voix," is another
collaboration with Mia Zedan and a perfect specimen of ARTREFORM's sound
pedigree: a powerful bass line coupled with an energetic and inventive tech
house beat. However, its full depth of immersion takes effect via a remix by
Lucas Morello, known as Lukea. His sci-fi-infused vibes of cosmic alienation
and observation elevate this remix to the adornment of this

released six albums in their lifetime, The Sound, who formed in early 1979
and broke up in late 1987, were undervalued in their own country, always attracting
only a small audience. 200 miles away from their native South London and
across the North Sea in the Netherlands, The Sound, however, had a fanatical
following, regularly filling out 2000 capacity venues and at one point in the
early '80s outselling both U2 and Echo and the Bunnymen there. This

the story behind The Normal's only single, but let's go through it once again
for good measure. Daniel Miller set up Mute Records in 1978 with the
intention of releasing two tracks he'd made on his own with a Korg synthesiser.
'T.V.O.D.' and arm Leatherette' were weird, dystopian and darkly sexy tunes.
Minimal wave was born and Miller had changed the course of post/punk. He'd
also started up one of the most successful British labels of the 21st

guitarist Scipio Sargeant left his native Trinidad for New York, he hooked up
with another Trinidadian guitarist, Bert Bailey, for a psychedelic rock
project, with Sargeant relegated to bass, Bert's brother Herb on drum duties,
fellow Trinidadian Lou Phillips as frontman, and African American keyboardist
Earl Arthur on prog/like organ. Impacting the club circuit, they were nearly
signed by Columbia, but wound up cutting their sole LP for Calla in one brief
afternoon. The result is a hard-rocking trippy set with echoes of the
Chambers Brothers, Hendrix, and Sly Stone. A lost classic, ripe for

se formaron en el a;o 1984. Un concierto en un pueblo cercano a Barcelona
*Papiol( el dia 22 de abril, en el que coincidieron por un lado los
Roxicómanos *grupo de rockabilly que había ganado un concurso promovido por
el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, de esos que estaban tan de moda...( y por otro
lado ADN *que hacía un pop extra;o tirando a rock sure;o( fue bautizado por
el grupo como @Descontrol en Papiol@ y se considera que fue el momento en que
se formó *ideológicamente_( el grupo. El guitarrista de los Rockxicómanos
*Juan Bosco Julià @Voll@(, el cantante de ADN *Gustavo Adolfo Ropero( y el
bajista de ADN *Kike Garcia @Kik Douglas@( estaban bastante descontentos en
los grupos mencionados, y decidieron montar el pollo que se montó. Estuvieron
maquinando lo que sería la barbarie posterior a base de reuniones en bares y
garitos, llenando folios y folios de ideas, nombres, música, puestas en
escena, performances, imágenes de video. hasta que unos meses después, en
octubre concretamente, encontraron lo que sería el @legendario@ local de la
calle Pintor Fortuny de Barcelona *un sótano en pleno centro, una gruta más
bien< un colega *hoy profesor de sociología( se encargó de crear un
peque;o relato inspirado en Edgar Alan Poe o H.P. Lovecraft, pero es que el
lugar era así, de terror gótico mezclado con rollo punk, pintadas, pasadizos
imposibles, botellas, humedad...( No tardaron en incorporarse al grupo el
batería Jose Miguel Medrano, el saxofonista I;aki Gaztelu *que colaboraba con
bandas como Brighton 64 o Decibelios(, el guitarrista Sergio Oca y el
percusionista @King Bucolicush@. La prematura marcha *al cabo de pocos meses(
del guitarrista @Voll@, compositor del 40% de los temas, y de Sergio Oca
*autor de dos temas y numerosos arreglos( hizo que los otros cinco miembros
se convirtieran en la columna vertebral del grupo, por el cual pasaron
posteriormente varios guitarristas *Jordi Armengol, Alex Antón( así como el
bajista italiano Rinaldo *en sustitución de Kike por la puta mili( y hasta un
trompetista llamado I;aki también. Pasó por allí también un guitarrista
llamado Joe, un tipo siniestro pero, alguien lo recuerda? |

Quivver, to curate their next mix compilation release. Style and substance
joined at the hip. With Balance presents Dave Seaman & Quivver, both
artists have reached out far and wide to their producer friends to pull off a
real coup. Every track is exclusive to this release - not one track has
previously been released. If that's not enough, the pair have added five
exclusive collaborative productions, making this release is a perfect
snapshot of where Dave Seaman & Quivver are musically right now. The lead
single from the album, 'Make This Disappear' features experienced vocalist
Quivver on lead vocals...and even has Dave Seaman making his debut behind the
mic contributing backing vocals. A first after more than three decades of
making music. There is also particular excitement about Dave Seaman's highly
sought after, previously unreleased remix of Underworld's 'Low Burn', which

It’s
a family affair. One formed almost thirty years ago, back in the
mid-nineties, when the pair joined seminal French jazz combo Olympic
Grammofon. For twenty-four years they have worked together as Bumcello, each
complementing the other, echoing polar opposites. The Boom in Bumcello is
none other than Cyril Atef, incisive drummer, relentlessly pushing beats
towards new horizons. The Cello is Vincent Ségal, cellist without blinkers
and extraordinary musical alchemist. Since 1999, these two die-hard music
fans, coming together for mercurial results, have released one record after
the other whilst conquering the hearts of their live audiences, old regulars
as well as new recruits. We have all been seduced by the way their music
leapfrogs categories - these two experts are much more interested in kindred
spirits than pigeonholing, and this very spirit is celebrated on more than
one track of this ninth record, whose concept is original to say the least.
Everything began with an idea by Cyril Atef - a soundtrack based upon
drawings penned by Marin, Vincent’s son, architect and visual artist. The
musicians involved then coached their reaction to these images on a score,
and the pair were charged with collating and adjusting the results. These
thirteen ink drawings, in a heroic fantasy vein, constituted a matrix which
was then to serve as a guide, like a roadmap through a singular and
multi-faceted labyrinth. The key to this sonic fresco is in Bumcello’s image
– an eclectic aesthetic twinned with a great sense of contrast. Herein lies
the trademark of this entity animated by the gift of musical ubiquity, gorged
on scales and rhythms, capable of a slap as much as a gentle caress. From
classical music to electronics, from improvised music to sophisti-pop,
everything is allowed with no preconceived ideas. They can even reclaim the
traditions of others, all the better to propel them towards new horizons -
this is how the very history of music has always panned out. If you listen
between the lines and look at the details, more than one piece bears witness
to the moments and individuals that have impacted the criss-crossing lives of
Vincent and Cyril. The track Crash is the perfect excuse to create a
Jamaican-style jam with New York inflections, and we can see, in capital
letters, the name Hilaire Penda, playing alongside Bumcello at the Apollo
Theater in the associated drawing. This bass player from Cameroon, who died
on 5th November 2018, was more than just a friend for the two Frenchmen. He
was one of the family. Similarly, they give a nod to another Cameroonian, and
another departed friend - singer of rock band les Têtes brûlées, Zanzibar,
through the vocals of fellow countryman Zanzi. The ghost of Rémi Kolpa Kopul,
emblematic voice of Radio Nova, haunts the margins of Spark Av, in a vocal
sample with a smattering of effects. As for I Remember Tim, it directly
honours the memory of Timothy Jerome Parker, aka The Gift Of Gab, another
friend who left us in 2021 |

Afro-Cuban
star Daymé Arocena has announced her new album 'Alkemi' which will be
released on February 23 via Brownswood Recordings. It is her first album
since 'Sonocardiogram' in 2019. Dayme's new single "American Boy"
accompanies her album announcement. No other song on the album embodies
Arocena’s artistic liberation like “American Boy” - an exhilarating,
futuristic slice of progressive pop. “I wrote it ten years ago, but thought
it was too much of a pop song,” Dayme reflects. “In an indirect way, the
music industry had shown me that I wasn’t welcome in that world. There isn’t
a Black woman like me who enjoys the kind of success usually reserved for
Rosalía or KAROL G. The image of music genres like salsa or bachata has been
painfully distorted throughout the years. You are supposed to clone and fuse
yourself in order to conceal your Black or indigenous side. They told me I
didn’t fit in that world, but I’m going to prove them wrong.” When Daymé
decided to switch gears and record her fourth studio album in Puerto Rico
with the iconic producer Eduardo Cabra (Calle 13), she never imagined that
she would end up moving there. “From the moment I stepped foot on the island,
I realized that I never wanted to leave,” says the 31 year-old Cuban singer/songwriter
with a hearty laugh. “At the time, I had spent three years away from Cuba,
living in Canada with my husband. I called and asked him to come over to
Puerto Rico, and to please bring all my stuff. It wasn’t a conscious decision
on my part. It was simply love at first sight.” Relying on instinct and
intuition is how Daymé has managed her career since she burst on the
international scene with 'Nueva Era,' her prodigious debut album, in 2015.
Now, she has fully reinvented her sound with 'Alkemi,' a revolutionary – and
transformative – fusion of neo soul singing, Afro-Caribbean beats and slick
new millennium pop. The album is titled 'Alkemi' with the Yoruba word for
alchemy. "It means the cosmovision of transformation," she explains.
"It is mixing all the elements to achieve an unbeatable result, full of
shine and light, like gold springing from the skin." From the
cosmopolitan smoothness of lead single “Suave y Pegao” – an effortless fusion
of jazz, bossa nova and urbano stylings with reggaeton star Rafa Pabön on
guest vocals – to the smoldering neo-soul of “A Fuego Lento,” with Dominican
singer Vicente García, Daymé’s latest album relies on sacred formats of the
past but rearranges them in a conscious quest to redraw the very definition
of what Latin pop is supposed to sound like. “It was definitely a team
effort,” she reflects from her new home in San Juan. “Flexibility may well be
my biggest virtue. I’m always open to every possible suggestion when it comes
to making things better. My piano player, Jorge Luis "Yoyi"
Lagarza, and I worked on the demos with the rest of my band. Then with
Eduardo Cabra’s direction, we enlisted musicians from all over the Caribbean
– Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic. Everybody added their energy and
coloring.” It was Daymé’s piano player who originally suggested she contact
Eduardo Cabra known for combining commercial aptitude with a refined sense of
craftsmanship. Not only did Cabra accept the singer’s offer, but he also
invited her to stay at his home during the four months when they recorded
'Alkemi' in his Puerto Rico studio. “I had no idea that he was familiar with
my music,” she enthuses |

Neither
Timothy J. Fairplay, nor Norwell are strangers to the Dalmata Daniel family:
both of them are trustworthy contributors to DD compilation albums of earlier
years, plus Norwell has released his 'ODD' EP and 'Joint Spaceflights' EP
back in 2017 and 2019 on the label. So this time, it's a return for Norwell,
and a debut for Mr. Fairplay: their DDS09 split EP is here to present 4
tracks full of outer space lights, eerie vibes, mesmerizing beats and cosmic
energies. Timothy J. Fairplay's side A starts with the explicit kicks and
ominous basslines of 'Caliber 9'. Slowly and steadily, the laser blasts and
relentless drums all add up to define a world of space cadets on the run,
where any odd-looking figure can turn out to be a malignant, speedy alien. 'TV
Tower' takes us to another planet with an even higher rotation velocity. Fast
percussion elements and squished lower frequencies take center stage in this
intergalactic episode, but the whistle-like melodies and descending, bubbling
robot signals make the journey complete. Flip to side B, and enter the
contemplating, otherworldly atmospheres of Norwell. 'Midnight Rituals' gives
you the chills with its breath-like swooshes, grievous sirens and deadly
asteroid belts. Yet, there is no need to worry: after an intense ride with
your spaceship, eventually you end up in the same spot, where you started: in
the stable and steady mid-tempo beats of an expertly-programmed drummachine.
The orbital mission comes to an end with 'Natives', a dense and heroic hymn
with emotive structures and well-crafted harmonics. The track starts with the
bittersweet, lamenting synths of a solo voice, pouring their heart out in the
spotlight, all alone on the stage. All of a sudden, a hard-hitting, rhythmic
groove commences its last rush of dedicated cadences. It is full of breaks,
it is full of 303s, completed with airy echoes and dreamy, light gestures.
'Natives' keeps on building its structure with elegant paces, providing a
massive, yet delicate experience of Norwell's defined aesthetics. The track
lets the last strokes of its gloomy synths roll out, along with the final
round of looping drums, thus putting an end to DDS09 |

become cherished for: imaginative yet timeless, soothing yet moody, melodic
yet sonic music. Entitled 'Computer Hermetics', this new record is an EP by
UrbnMowgli, a fairly new Berlin-based artist who began releasing music in
2020. The opening track, 'Fast Love Life', is a 145 bpm electro-bred,
breakbeat-driven emotive dancefloor banger. It features menacing stabs
juxtaposed with beautiful pads and acid-drenched arpeggio motifs that lend it
a oneiric quality. 'Oracle Algorithm' picks up the 303 spirit and delves into
trippier territories, densening the dreamlike, expansive atmosphere while
infusing the record with electro-driven grit. Closing side A is 'Warschauer
Rush-Hour', a futuristik, high-tempo twisted electro banger that's both tough
and playful. 'Immaterial Desires' inaugurates side B--an ode to adventurous
drum programming and intricate sound design in the form of a
percussion-punctuated curveball belter. 'Digital Dawn' brings it all back
home to the heart and closes the record with its deepest, most immersive
moment, giving us big bass lines that alchemically converse with angelic
bleepy melodies as if soundtracking a soulful sci fi movie that doesn't exist

edition LP on coloured vinyl. The band around Bert Dockx (Dans Dans, Flying
Horseman) transformed once again and is now a quartet.They developped new
compositions with an even richer language fluttering and wailing in jazz,
impro, electronics and krautrock. Ottla is a bird that not only sings
beautifully but also vigorously flaps and squawks. Also known as a band that
Bert Dockx formed to play together once to celebrate the 25th anniversary of
the Jazz Lab concert series. Fortunately, Dockx and the musicians he gathered
for that anniversary sextet quickly found much enthusiasm and more
opportunities to play together. In 2019, what initially seemed like a
fleeting experiment transformed into composing, rehearsing, recording an
album, and playing more. Ottla's fluttering spirit appeared to have cooled
down, at least for a while. However, when Josse De Pauw asked Dockx to
improvise during a monologue he was working on in 2021, an alternative
version of Ottla quickly appeared by Dockx's side. The mystery and madness of
Eduardo Galeano's "Chronicle of Fire" (1986), the monologue in
question, found a musical counterpart. In addition to the requested
improvisation, Dockx developed several new compositions, expanded by Ottla
with lyrical guitar passages, improvised clarinet solos, rustling effects,
and a sometimes cool, then warm, dark rhythm section. The result was a
powerful performance (and live EP) and the clear insight that this new Ottla
is no mockingbird. A new repertoire was in the works, but performing it was
temporarily out of the question. Bert's acute back problems in the fall of
2021 dampened the enthusiasm. All music was set aside but fortunately only
for a while. Music has always been the language through which Dockx found meaning
and order in the world, so this heavy physical and emotional setback would
also find its response in music. From that dark period emerged the album
"Ghosts," released under the new name Bert Dockx Band in October of
this year. That album seems much more like a cage in search of a bird, to
speak with a Kafkaesque aphorism (Ottla is also Kafka's sister's first name).
Ottla's latest album, "Vogel" (Bird), is the full awakening after
"Ghosts." The window flies open, the sun burns. Fluttering and
wailing in jazz-improv-electro-noise-prog-afro-blues-groove-punk-krautrock,
Ottla, true to its Kafkaesque nature, transformed once again, and the quartet
began further developing the compositions with an even richer language. The
album showcases significant contrasts in strength and color between songs,
often even within one song. There exists no rivalry between Thomas Jillings
and Bert Dockx, but rather a playful dialogue. Jillings, the
multi-instrumentalist, expanded his setup and plays saxophone, clarinet, and
various synthesizers. The bass and drum parts of Gerben Brijs and Louis
Evrard provide tension and thunder, with effects resonating from their
amplifiers like mist in an enchanted forest. To further explore the new music,
the quartet performed a series of café concerts in 2022 and some try-outs in
2023. Finally, last summer, they entered the studio to capture
"Vogel." In Studio Ledeberg, Peter Desmedt's cage, the spontaneity
and dynamics of the performances were preserved, with room for overdubs to
enrich the songs just a bit more. The result is an album full of exciting
twists: a series of new songs that will undoubtedly continue to transform

Mutual Rytm imprint is back with its third release of 2024, marking a full
label debut from Sonic Propaganda with their 'Native' EP. Sonic Propaganda
comes from the collaborative minds of Earwax and Rosati, a pair who favour
dark and intense techno sounds and take inspiration from Jeff Mills and
Robert Hood. In the studio, they blend analog and digital technologies into
smoky warehouse atmospheres and immersive journeys that connect with
listeners on an emotive level, and this full EP lands following their
contribution to the third instalment of the Mutual Rytm's Federation Of Rytm
compilation series in February. The powerful 'Native' opens up at high speed
with tightly coiled drum loops that never let up. Sleek metal percussive
sounds peel off the grooves and lock listeners into a perfect state of
hypnosis. 'Soul Pressure' is just as absorbing, with a tense bassline keeping
you on edge as the train-like drums march under incendiary hi-hat ringlets.
There is plenty of perfect machine funk to 'Terminal', which has more rusty
synth textures and chopped-up vocal fragments humanising the turbulent
grooves. 'Basic Path' brings an extra skip to the kicks as they enter,
scuffed up and flowing just above the groove, while vocal pulses and twitchy
synth modulations bring the detail. 'Body Empire' closes the vinyl package
with a deeper vibe and pensive synths that add warmth and soul to the
brilliantly mechanical grooves, while digital bonus 'Acid Riot' closes with
squelching acid lines amongst a swell of analog crunch and laser-sharp

“Hulled” is a 25 minute journey
spread across 4 tracks of glacial abandon. All tracks were recorded directly
to tape with no overdubs, made at Converse’s home studio. Bill says these
tracks represent “ocean waves in stormy conditions, dark grey blue water, or
more generally speaking something ominous and beautiful.” The songs on this
album reveal a sublime influence from Detroit techno, IDM, and Acid. Built
around vintage synthesizer lines and gritty drum machine percussion, the
tracks ebb and flow like the effect of sun shimmering on water, woozy, gauzy
and ephemeral. All songs were mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy
Studios in Berkeley. Each EP is housed in a die-cute jacket designed by
Eloise Leigh with peachy pink patterns landing on an alien water planet and
seeing mysterious playing forms under the turquoise water. and the. Each copy

As
we move into a new year, again start the cogs of labels and artists around
the world, this is certainly the case for Disc Over Music as they bring us
their first release of 2015. High off the back of exquisite releases in 2014
from Luca Lozano & Mr. Ho and Nicson, Disc Over’s first installment of
2015 comes from label head Tim Green - A three track EP bursting with two
classic TG productions and grooves which is then given another dimension with
a remix from the talented German born producer Borrowed Identity. The EP
kicks off with the aptly named ‘Scar’ - a track which when heard, truly makes
it mark. It sets the tone for the rest of the EP with it’s prominent bassline
and haunting howls whilst dreamlike keys bounce and float above. Track two, ‘We
Thought’ is taken down a gear but keeps all of the groove built from ‘Scar’.
It begins with a simple trademark TG bassline and is allied with light and
free singular keys. The listener is then joined by vocals which along with
the previous elements take you on a real trip. Borrowed Identity speeds
things up right away with his remix of ‘We Thought’. The track is morphed
into a dancefloor groove with the comforting vocals darkened, cut and
reworked on top of an unpredictable and fluctuating bassline. Managing to
keep the identity of Tim’s original the track becomes something completely
different and certainly makes you feel you want to take the trip |

It's
been a minute since we heard last from Montreal's CLARIAN on KOMPAKT (KOM 356
- ANKH EP ) but by no means has his universe stopped expanding as he released
the 2017 full length SYNTH WAVE (BALANCED) and collaborated with TIGA on STAY
CLOSE and THEY JUST WANT 2 B U (w/ JAMIE PRINCIPE and FELIX DA HOUSECAT)
singles. We welcome back CLARIAN with TIME SAFARI. The majority of the EP was
a 2 year long process from recordings made in South Africa as a team effort
ofRICHARD MARSHALL, BLANE VENTER and of course CLARIAN (along with many
locals along the way) with the 'ambient aspect' of the EP finished in India
in summer 2018. By no means is this EP to be perceived as experimental
recordings as each club track has a theme that is loyal to the dance floor with
a goal of incorporated ambient recordings to create an immersive environment.
The aim CLARIAN has with TIME SAFARI is to attempt to empower the idea that
club music can go beyond simply being labeled as a genre and club motif but
can also explore alternative, creative and most of all be a conduit to bring
unity through all variations of art mediums into the night life scene. The
ambient aspect of TIME SAFARI is CLARIAN's homage to his heroes. Think if
TUXEDOMOON collaborated with CARL SAGAN to create a weirdo version of COSMOS.

Davis Jr. relaunches his music imprint šSecret Angels› with full digital and
physical distribution behind it. The labels first official release is the
šOne› EP (Special Edition). In 2012 Seven Davis Jr.™s song šThanks› debuted
on Gilles Peterson™s šWorldwide Family Vol 2› compilation (curated by
Kutmah). He then released the highly popular šOne› EP on Must Have Records in
2013. A live edit of the title track was later included on a release with
Classic Music Company in 2014. Those two songs along with other popular
tunes, collaborations, remixes and live performances helped catapult the
artist around the world up until 2016 when he took somewhat of a hiatus to
treat his depression and anxiety. This special edition includes original
versions to both šOne› and šThanks›, plus 2 unreleased tracks recorded
between 1999 and 2011. Paying tribute to the songs that kickstarted Seven
Davis Jr.™s career in the spirit of now kickstarting the labels new
beginnings. With a roster of unique artist in the pipeline, Secret Angels
will definitely be a go to for exciting rare sounds. Sev™s next album is also
forthcoming, which will be his first šabove ground› release since the 2015

Orientalis teases his highly anticipated album 'Portrait of the Obscure’ on
Crosstown Rebels with the third and penultimate single ‘Neurality’, remixed
by 8Bit and Cecile head honcho Nick Curly. Istanbul-based Safak Oz Kutle, aka
Oceanvs Orientalis, is a producer and live act who blends the rich sonic
cultures of Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian and Arabic music to curate his take on
electronic music. The first two singles from his forthcoming album on Damian
Lazarus’ legendary Crosstown Rebels have showcased his diverse sound at its
fullest, and now the third offering and final single ahead of the LPs release
confirms him once again to be a standout talent as he unveils the captivating
sonics of ‘Neurality’. An absorbing and stirring production, ‘Neutrality’
brings a darkly involving groove that is multi-layered and hypnotic, with
several shimmering vocals, jangling percussive lines and ethereal pads all
locking you in for an enthralling ride. A remixer who needs little
introduction, Nick Curly is as integral to the tech house genre as anyone in
the scene, heading up key labels such as 8Bit and Cecile while helping to
define the genre as we know it today. His interpretation is deep and warm,
with slinky drums carefully deployed amongst vocal whispers that bring human
soul. An excellent final preview into what’s still to come, ‘Neurality’
delivers another exceptional production, leading perfectly into the release
of the full-length project this April |

Radio Slave pays homage to Fun
Boy Three with ‘The Lunatics (A Tribute to Terry Hall)’. Fun Boy Three’s
ground-breaking 1981 anthem ‘The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum’
reflected a socio-political uncertainty and fear of the time, mirroring
today’s calamitous society. Radio Slave’s tribute to the late vocalist of The
Specials and Fun Boy Three, Terry Hall, ‘The Lunatics (A Tribute To Terry
Hall)’ centres itself on the unmistakable haunting vocal chant of its source
material. Welded to the sort of unbreakable groove that Radio Slave has spent
two decades refining, the vocal swells, repeating chorus, and jolting alarm
sounds make for yet another anthem from one of dance music’s most bankable
names. Rounding out the release, Radio Slave strips the single of its iconic
vocal for the ‘A Clinic Full Of Cynics’ dub. In this version, he lets its
infectious guitar strum bass roar and added jazz-inflected musical elements
shine in a pure and true tribute to Ska music told by the Rekids founder |

Thirteen
EPs and several VA's make up the story of Marcel Fengler's IMF label, and the
music continues to go from strength to strength. The latest addition to the
release catalogue may be one of the strongest to date, featuring a generous
number of individual inputs inside a six-track EP. Delivering the goods this
time, Stuttgart-based Rove Ranger serves up two sublime stompers, with
enigmatic London local The Advent serving up a thumping remix for the first
half of this split release. Madrid's Rodiaz supplies another duo of weighty
originals on the second side, backed up by legendary Scottish techno titans
Slam. Rove Ranger's 'Workout' opens proceedings energetically, revolving
around a rolling acid bassline, swirling tonal percussion, offbeat licks, catchy
vocal chops and crisp, driven hat grooves to churn out an impressive opening
track before The Advent puts his own deeper, darker spin on it, pulling the
original track around through a series of envelopes and creative modulations,
giving it an entirely different persona. Rove Ranger closes off his side of
the release with the breakbeat-laced sounds of 'Unforgotten', implementing
endless audio width alongside pensive chords, thumping industrial grooves and
hollowed-out sub-bass. Rodiaz kicks the second half of the EP off with a
bang, coming in brutal and fast on 'Space Methods' through an array of
thudding drum grooves and rattling percussive toppers to for man
unconventionally gripping beat structure - subtly accented with minimal
melodic components to add endless character to this peak-time bomb. Slam
follows up with an archetypally hard-hitting rendition, firing off a
relentless assault of weighty kicks, rattling hat grooves and coarse
industrial fills, leaving very little room for a breather throughout this
tirade of hair-raising tenacity before Rodiaz distils the EP into a close
with the groove-focused 'Output Methods', playing on detuned tonal elements
alongside tribal-infused percussion and eerie pads from start to finish |
