Entering the world of MOOON is
like entering a time machine. The young Brabant power trio, consisting of
brothers Tom and Gijs de Jong and their cousin Timo van Lierop, takes the

Exploring
personal metamorphosis and the emergence of light from darkness, Louise Lemón
will release her latest album Lifetime of Tears, the third album from The
Queen Of Death Gospel. As a testament to Louise Lemón’s unique style, she
fuses deep, dark undertones with an unwavering faith in the light and the
ability to rise above. The writing process of Lifetime of Tears began aboard
a plane as Louise Lemón navigated the emotional aftermath of a breakup and
bid farewell to a previous life. Through this airborne introspection, high
above the clouds, she had a moment of clarity as she realised her third album
would revolve around finding tranquility after the overwhelming pain of
heartbreak. This pivotal insight became the guiding force that shaped the emotional
core of Lifetime of Tears; conjuring beauty from disparity with her
captivating noir-sound. Attention must be turned to the title track of this
latest release. Brimming with intense emotions, ‘Lifetime of Tears’ is a
soulful rock ballad that pays homage to Louise Lemón's musical influences of
the 70s including Fleetwood Mac and The Allman Brothers, amongst others.
Guitarist Johan Kvastegård skilfully captures the energy of this era as well
as the raw sentiment of the lyrics with his sensual, somnambulant,
Santana-esque guitar hooks. Melded with steady drums and deep piano
instrumentation, ‘Lifetime of Tears’ is ultimately carried by Louise Lemón's
enchanting, eerie, and ethereal vocals—a reminiscent blend of Cat Power, Lana
Del Rey, and PJ Harvey. Of the single she says “Lemón on your arm, pour some
salt, the scars will last a lifetime. I need sweat and tears in music to
really appreciate it. I love big emotions and they need to come through in
the instruments too, I need to hear your tears through the guitar, I need to
feel your passion in how you hit each drum. I need music to take me to
another dimension, create a movie where I want to be, whether it is a grand
passion or a nice float through pink clouds.” Recorded at the legendary
Atlantis Studio in Stockholm, Lifetime of Tears comes to life amidst a
treasure trove of vintage gear and authentic instruments, capturing a
pristine and contemporary sound free from digital interference. The album
marks a significant milestone in Louise Lemón’s career, as she takes the
reins and showcases her exceptional talents as both a songwriter and
producer. Joining forces with acclaimed producer Randall Dunn for the
mixing/mastering process of the album, the collaboration promises to elevate
her music to new heights, captivating listeners worldwide. “I wanted the
sound to match the realness of the lyrics.” says Louise “A big thing for me
was that it was the first time I produced an album in this kind of big studio
and really had the creative control over each and every sound that is on the
album. It was also special to have been touring with the musicians alot
before recording and having that band energy in the album. I wanted to
capture their amazing souls too and they really played right from their core.

The June Brides debut single originally released in 1984 on The Pink Label.
Both tracks are from fresh transfers from the master tapes which were then
remastered by Jason Mitchell at LOUD Mastering in Taunton in early 2021. The
June Brides are true innovators, hailing from the first wave of British
indie, with fans that include Manic Street Preachers (who covered their song
“The Instrumental” as a tribute) , Morrissey and Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart
Murdoch. They have always been regarded as pioneers, and one of the most
beloved of the bands that formed the original UK independent music scene,

The
Pheromoans are tenants of an unruly domain. Over the last 18 years the group
have evolved from garage rock primitivists to auteurs of their own curious
sound; a frothy brew of loose electronics, refractory rock and humdrum
musing. Their songs are mutable, capricious, unreliable narrations, often
withholding as much as they reveal. Russell Walker’s understated vocal has
always been the band’s unifying focus, it is wry, unsparing and wilfully
honest. Walker’s lyrics are an observational tour de force, sometimes droll,
yet often tipping over into unlikely pathos. With previous releases on Upset
The Rhythm, Convulsive and Alter, 2024 will witness The Pheromoans return
with lucky album number 13, entitled ‘Wyrd Psearch’ (out March 1st on Upset
The Rhythm). ‘Wyrd Psearch’ was recorded in Lewes throughout 2023. This was
undertaken by founding member James Tranmer, his keen instinct for how the
band should sound shaping many of the creative decisions. Joined by new
guitarist Henry Holmes, the five piece doubled down on a decidedly breezy,
melodic approach. Scott Reeve’s drumming is ever brisk, whilst Daniel Bolger
explores AOR peripheries on keyboard and bass. “Wyrd Psearch finds us on
relatively zestful form” affirms Walker “whether it be merrily recalling the
Jason Williamson / Tim Lovejoy Covid summit, or mentally bathing in the
pleasures of lunch hours spent strapped to a listening post in Borders.” With
The Pheromoans there is always a familiarity at play, only broken and
reassembled, like a bygone sitcom gone rogue in your memory. This contributes
to the group’s peculiarly British outsider perspective, one that shouts from
the sidelines, but never goes unnoticed. Subjects covered lyrically on ‘Wyrd
Psearch’ include “mid-life crises, male pattern baldness, and thwarted
artistic and personal ambitions” according to Walker himself. “Nothing is off
limits for scrutiny, even rural arts communities” he concludes. Lead single
‘Downtown’ swings with chiming guitars and finds Walker mid-breakdown trying to
persuade a loved one to accompany him into the town centre to collect
controlled medication and wind back the clock to happier times. “I want to
keep you in cotton wool until pay day” he confides. ‘Cropped to Death’ and
‘Father Austin’ are ruminative and more relaxed in nature, whilst ‘Twibbon
Wife’ is a more energetic effort, all jabbed synth chords, circuitous
basslines and rampant drum fills. ‘Faith in the Future’ similarly bounds
along with reverie. Walker claims that the album’s title is an expression of
his frustration at the ubiquity of people claiming things are eerie or weird
/ wyrd in the present cultural milieu. The artwork for the record is designed
as an actual word search too, a knowing nod to how we all grapple for meaning
amongst the absurdity of each day. Leaning into ‘weird’ as a coping mechanism
is not on The Pheromoans’ agenda however. This album holds little sway with
the supernatural, it’s not enough. The overriding impression given by ‘Wyrd
Psearch’ is of a band renewed with ideas. There’s no trouble finding the
right words, they’re hitting their mark, keeping up with the commentary.

Louise
van den Heuvel is a dynamic Dutch bass player and composer. She's known for
blending modern music technologies and effect pedals in her compositions
rooted in the contemporary electronic/jazz scene. Louise founded the
up-and-coming Belgian electronic jazztrio Dishwasher_, collaborated with
renowned artists on stage such as Zwangere Guy & Lander Gyselinck and
Bruno Vansina Orchestra, and is part of Stéphane Gallands' The Rhythm
Hunters, The Gallands, and the neo-soul group STACE. For her latest project,
Sonic Hug, Louise composed the whole repertoire by herself. The self-titled
album, supported by JazzLab and W.E.R.F. Records, features a stellar line-up
of some of the leading figures in the Benelux (jazz) scene: Hendrik Lasure on
keys, Daniel Jonkers on drums and Daniel Comerford on reets (live replaced by
Werend Van Den Bossche). The band is set to tour in April and May 2024 after
its release on 5th of April 2024. Her own creations expose themselves as
elaborated melancholic songs filled with elegant grooves, crystalline vocals
and experimental jazz excursions. She's brilliantly using her own musical
voice - even literally, since you will also hear her sing on some of the
tracks. Surrounded by three equally inevitable peer musicians in the front of
the new Belgian jazz generation (known from acts such as schntzl, Bombataz,
Profound Observer, Otto Kintet, Dishwasher_, Kin Gajo, ...) Sonic Hug becamea
very personal, unique new project. Influenced by the sounds of Scandinavia
and artists such as ADHD, Nala Sinephro, Floating Points, Y Otis and Joni
Mitchell, the vibe of Sonic Hug is etheric, elegant, melodically narrative,

Norwegian duo Konradsen have built a critically acclaimed catalogue through

decades, record collectors across the Dutch-speaking region have overlooked a
significant portion of their own musical heritage while avidly searching for
rare grooves and breaks in bins filled with more exotic music? It's a fact!
And that's where Harde Smart comes in. After delving deep into dusty crates
of Belgian and Dutch music, Harde Smart's inaugural compilation in 2019,
dedicated to music from the 1970s, brought to light a selection of smooth,
jazzy, funky, and soulful gems from Flanders (the Dutch-speaking part of
Belgium) and Holland. In addition to exquisite grooves and hard-pounding
drums, these songs shared Dutch lyrics, offering a unique compilation of
lyric-driven Flemish and Dutch music from back in the days. Yet, nothing is
as certain as the unexpected. This compilation marked the first time a Dutch
album uncovered the authentic Afro-American funk and soul vibe, which, albeit
sporadically, influenced the work of both popular and lesser-known singers
and musicians in this corner of the world during the 1970s. Undoubtedly,
influences also stemmed from French chanson and rock music of the era. This
21-trackalbum shattered all musical predictability, taking listeners on a
strange and nostalgic journey, offering a revised collection of
"essential homegrown classics" for local listeners while also
captivating non-Dutch-speaking audiences. With the second compilation, Harde
Smart shifts its focus from the 1970s sound to explore the next decade, the
1980s. Vinyl aficionados No Sleep Richy and Micha Marva joined forces with
Sjefke De Kok, one of Holland's premier crate diggers, to continue their
musical odyssey. Digging even deeper into dusty bins filled with Dutch and
Flemish records once again unearthed an exquisite selection of tracks-too
weird to play, too rare to ignore. From butt-shaking boogie to weird disco
adventures on wax, this album encapsulates all the good stuff of the 1980s:

on our musical journey with Wiremu, originally from New Zealand and now based
in Leeds, we set sail with his EP, "The Subtle Hustle." Beyond a
personal passion, Wiremu's dedication to music production serves as a tribute

depth. "The Subtle Hustle," the opening track, forges a dynamic

returns to Perc Trax for his first full EP for the label,following his
appearance on the 'Forever 2' various artists release back in 2020. On 'Rant
4 Cash' James Barrett (aka Keepsakes) turns his attention to the lies and
fakery of the current dance music scene, with lead track 'Scene Analysis'
refusing to hold back when it comes to calling out the issues facing today's
techno scene. A deep Green Velvet style vocal floats over a swinging junkyard
percussion groove to drive the original mix forwards. Label boss man Perc
can't resist remixing such a memorable vocal track and swaps the swinging
groove of the original with a pounding kick heavy rhythm to add even more
intensity to the raw rage of the original mix. Flip the record over and the
B-side serves up another two punchy groove based tracks, pairing Keepsakes'

for a stunning 4 track jungle ep. Fresh from dropping several excellent
releases on Future Retro, !K7 and several other labels as well as
collaborations with Tim Reaper, Kloke brings the 93 darkside style into the
year 2023 for Echo Chamber Sound's sub label. These tracks have the perfect
balance of rawness and intricacy that Kloke is known for and could be

Aural
Imbalance has enjoyed a colourful and celebrated journey through music over
the years, taking in ambient soundscapes, deep house and of course, a
pioneering role in atmospheric drum & bass. With Spatial, he has
unearthed a pure, varied musical prowess seldom seen, with the ability to
control both the lighter aspects of the mix as well as expert breakbeat
craft. Infinity Spectrum showcases the breadth of talent Aural Imbalance
possesses in one incredible package, not to be missed. A1 - Aurealis: Opening
the album with a wonderfully serene track, Aural Imbalance delicately rolls
out his trademark smooth ambience with building cymbals and an energetic
break merging perfectly in the mix - along with a great, pounding undertone
of bass. Riddled with old-school sensibilities, Aurealis layers the building
blocks until the track opens up further through a superbly lush breakdown,
blooming like a flower in the summer sun before the breaks return. A2 -
Glistening Stars: Washing strings and the chitter-chatter of playful effects
introduce Glistening Stars, before familiar, crisp old school breaks steal
the limelight. A happy earworm melody soon reveals itself, and the breaks are
gradually filtered back in following an other amazing breakdown before the
melody takes on new life. Packed with detail and soul, this track will repeat
on you long after you've moved on. B1 - Alpha: Curious, apprehensive tones
punctuate a fascinating intro, with a deep old school bassline creeping out
first to greet us, before the hi-hat laden break loses its inhibitions and
roams free. Crafting a deliciously textured atmosphere, Aural Imbalance
continues to showcase the breadth of his production techniques in his Spatial
form, flecking the track with sumptuous melodies to create yet another gem.
B2 - Stargazers: This piece opens with a special blend of quiet, epic
serenity, evoking hope and wonder as amen cymbal work and a stabbing
snare-heavy break pattern rise and fall in the surrounding symphony. The
quietly musical bassline plays a key role in the aural world-building here,
complementing the breaks it harmonises with superbly. Aural Imbalance allows
the composition to breathe and flourish for a superbly executed final act.
Delightful. C1 - Slow Motion: Introduced with quietly filtered breaks, Slow
Motion dials back the pace with a break pattern which relaxes the snare while
still maintaining a playful energy as the kicks and bass bumble along below.
A uniquely atmospheric yet eccentric melody takes shape with dreamy pads
filling the backdrop, and calming scatterings of echoing effects colliding
and combining to generate a blissful collage of sound. C2 - Apparition:
Switching up the vibe we have Apparition, which boldly utilises long,
tranquil yet purposeful pad work before an immense break pattern riddled with
stark snares and a jumpy bassline which rides the smothered kickdrums so
well, they appear to be fused as one. The breaks on this are truly special
and will move the discerning dancefloor for sure, Aural Imbalance continuing
to reveal a never-ending depth to his sound. D1 - Artificial Satellite:
Introduced with smooth synths and DJ-friendly hi hats, Artificial Satellite
sees Aural Imbalance laying down a fresh showcase of old-school breakbeats,
laced with that inimitable Spatial flavour. A swirling low-key sci-fi vibe
punctuates the breakdown before the beats re-emerge. A deep, brooding
bassline pulses beneath throughout, while the perfectly executed breaks enjoy
their final flourish. D2 - Unknown Forces: Finally, up steps Unknown Forces
for a blistering finale to the LP. Aural Imbalance is at his amen-editing
best here with a truly superb showcase of analogue break patterns to nourish
the ears and set pulses racing on the dancefloor. Deep bass elevates the
gentle intro before thumping kicks begin an epic workout, chopped to
perfection with synths and strings flying gracefully above. We couldn't have

Colin
Baldry's Ambient Jazz Ensemble often compared to Bob James and David Axelrod
due to the large ensemble and orchestral elements. AJE are a London based 15
piece jazz with classical and electronic music orchestra. Baldry has created
upbeat House, Disco and Electronic reworks all ten tracks of his debut and
Gilles Pe-terson favourite Suite Shop album with the inclusion of mixes by
Simbad, Leo Zero and Leftside Wobble. AJE’s remixes mastered by Jon Hopkins
engineer Guy Davie on his gorgeous 1970s EMI Lagos desk. Dylan Colby remix
closing track on Hospital Records ‘We Are 21’ compilation. Baldry’s
impressive music career includes writing and producing for iconic labels
Motown, RCA, Geffen and Capitol Records whilst arranging and conducting The
BBC Concert Orchestra and The City Of Prague Philharmonic, Baldry’s expansive
experience has in result meant a bigger approach to ideas. With access to
working with world-class orchestras, he has been able to create large-scale
epic arrangements, which has no doubt furthered his talent for emotive,
cinematic compositions. Often described as ‘storytelling', Baldry himself
regards AJE’s musical output as the painting of a scene not unlike the role

K. brings 5 tracks of Balearic-ambient sweetness to Dark Entries.
Italian-Greek musician Costantino Luca Rolando Kiriakos has been a pioneering
force in the Athens electronic music scene since the mid-80’s, wearing hats
as diverse as composer, sound engineer, and installation artist. His
countless projects and collaborators include Tuxedomoon, Stereo Nova, In
Trance 95, and RAW (previously reissued by Dark Entries). 1994’s Theros,
Kiriakos’s first release as Coti K., was comprised of three tracks of breezy
downtempo beats, brimming with smooth breaks, boomy 808’s, and cosmically
chill pads & pianos. In tune with the global vibes of the emerging
ambient electronica movement, Coti K. brings a dose of his Hellenic heritage
with tracks titles like “Argonauts” and “Theros.” The title track includes
spoken word contributions from Konstantinos Bhta of Stereo Nova and is built
off of a drum loop from Greek goth outfit Flowers of Romance. The sauntering
“Blue” features vocals by Christina Moraki which were captured on a portable
tape recorder, while the instrumental “Argonauts” is bolstered by cello from
Nikos Veliotis. This reissue also includes two tracks from Coti’s 1997 debut
LP - “Shoal” and “Notte Estiva” - which have never before appeared on vinyl,
and show Coti experimenting with ambient and IDM styles. The cover art for
Theros is a photo of the ocean by Giannis Papaioannou of RAW featuring early
digital processing done on a Macintosh LC. Coti’s Theros is a timely slice of
90’s nostalgia with a uniquely Mediterranean twist |

Every moment of Skudd offers a
place to explore. For his second release on Omen Wapta, Delft-based sound
artist, Floid, fuses soundscapes and rhythms in seven tracks that swap peaks
and troughs for narrative arcs. Cinematic, immersive, dense and danceable,
the new EP, delivers sonic pieces that hypnotically swell and engage brain
and body dance. Drop into a snake pit with cavernous moments and unexpected
ornaments that rattle and slice. Affected pan flutes, meshed with shamanic
vocals and organic percussion conjure a nocturnal fever dream in the jungle.
Tempo tricks make high bpms feel stretched. With Skudd, the only thing
guiding you through the soundscapes is a certain groove in the constant

Somehow
Klasse Wrecks has made it to 50 official releases, not bad for a label that
wears its ignorance for others and 'the norm' proudly on its dirty sleeve.
Over the years the label has released a multitude of various sounds, spanning
bleep, rave, deep house, down tempo and the 50th release does well to
encapsulate that free spirit and openess. Without much planning and totally
by way of coincidence the responsibility lies with label co-owner Luca Lozano
and its sonically a typical mixed bag as to be expected. Kicking off with
restless acid stomping, the title track barges through the door...knocks over
a few drinks before blossoming into a breakdown that propels the 303 deep
into space and back again. On the A2, Lozano shows off his love for creaky breakbeats
and DX donks on a track called 'Re-Mix'...which as far as we know isnt a
remix of anything at all. The flip contains more raving beauties, 'Save Me
From The Rave' might be a desperate plea but by the sounds of it he's still
enjoying the madness, the producer makes an epic breakdown that might well
signify the end of all Trance homages. Then the final track of the EP sounds
like it could be played in a field in Glastonbury in 1993, its haunting vocal
harmonies signify the sun is coming up soon and likely that we're about to
start Chapter 2 of the Wrecks Wrebellion. The special edition sleeve artwork
features examples of previous artwork from the last 50 records, overlaid in a
typically chaotic manner by the label's designer |

is the genius underdog of the current French chanson scene. After playing
along with Sébastien Tellier or Juliette Armanet (a huge success in France),
after remixing Phoenix, Myd, Dita Von Teese, Cola Boyy, Tony Allen or Jane
Birkin, here he comes with his debut album. The balearic sound is always a
big nit influence, feel good electronics & lush acoustic chords. Spotted
by French label Record Makers (Sébastien Tellier, Kavinsky, AIR, Cola Boyy)
with his 2017 “Dessous de plage” first EP, nit has since grown from funky DIY
library music to a lush and complex groovy sound. The magic of this debut
album “Big Bang Puzzle” is a keen sense of composition and an innate affinity
for 90’s European electronica. It’s a playful album, the work of an artist at
the peak of his craft, determined to twist styles and references (Daft Punk,
Ennio Morricone, Robert Miles, Vangelis...) in order to give them a new form.
“Big Bang Puzzle” is a tangle of psychedelic and cartoon-esque pieces, an
abstract modernist painting of sounds inspired by vintage pop music. The
cover, created by Swiss artist Flora Mottini, offers a first glimpse of his
brand new universe. But it’s also by collaborating with French iconic design
studio H5 that nit suddenly enters the French Touch genealogy. nit takes the
shape of an n that grows legs and arms to become a cheeky cartoon character
traveling through a real space-time continuum. Parisian H5 studio has been
involved since the end of the ‘90s in the design of strong visual concepts for
French Touch’s elite (Etienne de Crécy, AIR, Mirwais). French music at its
best from which nit is a direct descendant. And one who expands and opens
even further: pop, italo-disco, trip-hop impulses, Morriconian cavalcades,
lo-fi aesthetics, Caribbean music. Producer and mixer Lucien Krampf (Oklou,
Ascendant Vierge, Casual Gabberz, CRYSTALLMESS) was the person in charge of
mixing this ambitious record. nit is both a question and an answer, and a
musical enigma that pushes us to explore the far reaches of our
imagination... |

Often
the best music gets made when people get out of their comfort zone and
venture into new territory. That is what I felt listening to these tracks
from Ukrainian veteran Alexander Pavlenko. He has a long history in drum 'n
bass as Sunchase, and as Na Nich, you might have heard him on Rhythm Buro or
Semantica, but this release reveals another side of him that we haven't heard
before. The Karpati EP kicks off with "Manipulation". A rolling sub
and punchy drums propel the track's momentum forward and make it
dancefloor-ready. The sounds on top take inspiration from multiple genres for
a track that finds a perfect balance between the deeper sides of both house
and techno. Next up is "Still There", a stripped deep house tune
where filtered percussion, pads and vocals alternate each other, flowing in
and out of focus. Title track "Karpati", a hypnotic techno track,
takes inspiration from the mountain region in western Ukraine, the melody
reflecting a similar beauty as the Carpathian nature. Add Na Nich's expert
sound design on top, and the result is a deep and captivating trip.
"Morning Habit" rounds up the EP by slowing things down for a
dubbed out house cut. Chords playfully bounce over the beat for a tune suitable
for either the early or very late mornings |
